#1 When people remark on the horrible (compared to the rest of industrialized world) covid numbers in USA, I tell them that it's an unfair comparison. USA is in the middle of civil war - with both sides using covid as a club to beat their opposition.

#3 US covid numbers are low as a %age of the population.

Similar pop to EU, less Covid "deaths" than EU.

#4  using covid as a club to beat their opposition

... unlike Onan the Contrarian, using COVID as a fetish to beat off 10-20 times a day

#5 #3 Anybody who looked at the numbers knows that European average << US average. Of course, anybody who looked at the facts stopped paying attention to your claims months ago, BP.

#6 sun hasn't yet risen and Onan the Death-Fetish Contrarian's already got several COVID wanks under his belt.

how many will he score today? 20? 50?

#7 Let me state for the record - in case anyone wondering: IMO, #4,6 is neither MM nor Raj. In fact, it's (IMO) not one of our regulars.

#8 That will make it very difficult for the servers to change food courses and clear the table.

Of course they could bend over the table to do those tasks, but that would defeat the cone's perceived purpose.

Tell me about all the Republican mayors and governors declaring certain businesses 'non-essential' and forcing their closure as well as instituting lockdown orders.

#11 g(r)omgoru, #4 and #6 is neither M.Murcek nor Raj. But some of our regulars make frequent use of Fred’s cute little anonymizer.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is quite enough flaming for today. Please don’t make me take out my periwinkle clue bat.

Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio. Though he did rule that high school football is ok, last I heard.

#13 I'll give him my asshole governor, Charlie Baker of MA, who's definitely a Never Trump guy. Other than that, it's all Dems causing the pain, so I have a problem w/ that part of g(r)om's post.

Plus, he's a condescending prick who proves it just about every day, so there's that too...

#15 Over at Instapundit today -

WHAT MYSTERY? Denver doctors may have found the answer to a pandemic mystery: What happened to all the heart attacks? “Stauffer’s team found that cardiac arrests at home in Denver more than doubled in the two weeks after the statewide stay-at-home order was issued compared with historical averages. Even compared with more recent data, the weekly average of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests jumped to 46 during those two weeks, versus 26 or 27 in the three months prior.”

Seriously, what mystery?

Plus: “Stauffer and his colleagues found that the number of people in Denver who died of cardiac arrests at home in the two weeks following the statewide stay-at-home order was greater than the total number of people who died of COVID-19 in the city during that time.

How many of them could have been saved had they made it to an ER?

It's all trade offs . Death is a pie chart. Shift a border one way it only expands in another.

#16 The trade off: If you go out during COVID someone "might get sick" assuming you have it. If you need to be in a CCU ward and aren't allowed to go, you won't get anyone else sick, but you will probably die.

To make someone feel good about their novel religion. Nothing more.

#17 EUSSR 180K deaths recorded for COVID (despite Germany's very iffy figures).
USA 174K deaths mentioning COVID on death cert.

I pre-accept Grom's apology.

#18 But the eurines are only "one big country" when they want to be. The rest of the time, we are expected to accept comparing the US to each individual country on its own.

Because statistics.

#19 #17 EU population 445 million. USA 331 million.
180000/445 = 404.5 per million

174000/331 = 525.7 per million

Back to school, Albert.

#26 Riots in Portland and Seattle for three months straight and the hospitals up there are not overwhelmed.

Grocery stores and restaurants have not shown employees dropping like flies coming down sick with the Covid.

These things seems odd to me yet nobody is talking about them.

#27 It's a classic gummint racket. They can decide if you do or do not have a livelihood. Inn't it interesting that all these professional rioters aren't going hungry. Let's hear about their income sources. I know some are trustafarians (spit) but not all of them.

#28 Right there with you rjschwarz.

I figure 90% of the information is bullshit, so I'm looking at supporting evidence, such as CHAZ is not a plague ward. Tulsa has not been quarantined. The Hudson is not choked with bodies. Sweden is not littered with cruise ships turned into plague wards. China is throwing mega-parties.

I believe it is in Oleg Atbashian's book Shakedown Socialism where he recounts figuring what Pravda said, what they left out, and what evidence is about in order to learn the real news.

Here, not even the 'out there' sites mention anything about trains full of bodies leaving the cities, freighters full of bodies being sunk out to sea. Real life happenings of Airplane! China cloud seeding the Yangtze flooding as cover for the elites to evacuate to doomsday bunkers.

Anecdotally, people I come across who have had it or been around it are like, "Yeah, it sucked, but no more than the crud going around last December." Obviously that is a smaller sample than somebody living in NY or NJ, but considering people telling fish stories, I'll keep to those I know and trust to be accurate. Seattle hospitals have gone from space suits to where's the patients? People not only keep showing up to work, they are begging to work - if the packing plants were rife with the China Plague people would stop going to work. Sturgis bikers of course have access to the internet, six months in an they are like, yeah whatever virus because they well connected travelers and bards checked the weather and concluded fair conditions.

And the flu chic people are people I didn't trust on a good day - government, entertainment, big corporation. The attitude of flu chic has lead to the justification of morality police, which media time and again brushes off of necessary 'In these trying times' as the TV advertisers like to preach, happy as clams that people are being forced to stay home and watch their shows about intense news and 11 year old girls twerking and scissoring.

#32 I found this interesting.

The take-aways:
1. Americans still misperceive the risks of death from COVID-19 for different age cohorts—to a shocking extent; (they think it's far worse than it is)
2. The misperception is greater for those who identify as Democrats,
