Actually, as I understand it, the danger is the ship's hull being crushed by the pressure of wind-driven ice. Hull breaches are often associated with sinking.

#15 Other than themselves, I think their biggest danger is not necessarily a hull breach, but losing power. Poor little egos would loose their ability send pictures of themselves doing yoga and making swarmy faces doing things.
