#4 Debkafile (liberally salted) claims that Basijj militia plan to seize the two British Embassy compounds in Tehran. That would seem to be consistent with the Miniature Madman's announcement.

#7 Syria is calling up her reserves, reports have been circulating of Lebanese Shiite civilians dispersing from Southern Lebanon, US forces deploying ships and Patriot batteries, now this.

#8 And I am still having a problem understanding why Rantburg seems like a conduit for Iranian propaganda stories. By reprinting the stuff here from presstv, it seems to be providing the Mullahs with a service. If it influences you emotionally and causes a strong reaction, then it is doing exactly what it was intended to do. PressTv is not a news organization, it is a government propaganda organization.

#9 I think this might be the link to linker's article, but I don't know how to add a link after an article is posted.

Not a conduit, crosspatch, but material for analysis. Why the Mad Mullahs feel a need to broadcast something, whether true or not, is information as much as the actual truth. Back when I (briefly) worked for that large consumer products company, we were told that what the customer believed was as important as what the lab had tested to prove true, and where they diverged we needed to to first address the reason for the divergence.

#10 Trailing Wife, seconded.

You want to know what your enemy is being told, even though it's 100-proof BS.

#13 At one time I thought it might be a good idea to have a separate category (in addition to operations, background, etc.) called enemy propaganda.

Then I realized that MSNBC and BBC stories would probably have to go into the same section as stories from PressTV.

#16 Deploy the earthquake generator ! or the Z.D.R !

Maybe the telling blow they intend to deliver is the final demise of their regime ? Sparks would fly then for sure ..

I cant think of one great thing the islamic revolution did , apart from create a 'great' big steaming pile of hog-wash (hoho!)

#19 Feb 11 is anniversary of 1979 Revolution (when remnants of the shah's regime were defeated or surrendered).

Several biggies have called for anti regime demonstrations this year on Feb 11.

Could be that Ahmadinejad will have Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoub arrested that day.

#21 DOn't get me wrong, not necessarily complaining, just wanting to understand the reasoning behind so much Iranian government content. Once I understand the idea behind it, it might all make sense. But it is also important that casual readers understand that the content comes from the Iranian government.

#23 I try to give as much news from the other side as possible. If you get it from Reuters or CNN you're getting what's theoretically our side of the story. If you get it from Press TV or Asharq al-Aswat or Maan you're getting a look into the minds (if any) of the opposition. You kinda have to go in with the idea that there's going to be a certain amount of propaganda.

Press TV would make a good textbook demo of how a propaganda organ works. At least five out of six stories are factual, the only bias involved being what's included and what's rejected. Then they drop a ringer in and because the other five stories were factual you naturally assume the sixth is.

#27 Knowing what lies the enemy wants to tell you can be an aid to understanding. A tell, if you will.

I guess I don't understand the Iranian tyrants enough, because I can't begin to sift out what this could be. Nuke test? Unleashing Hezbollah? I don't *think* it could be a fresh crack-down on their domestic enemies.

But then, I've always been a mediocre poker player...

#28 Fred, an occasional article here and there makes sense. On today's page there are a lot of Iranian articles. I stopped counting at 11 articles just in today's page and hadn't finished going through them all.

I like the site but it seems to drive the value down a bit when so many Press TV articles show up with an interesting title that makes me want to click and then I see "oh, Press TV again". It's ort of like seeing articles from DEBKA.

Having said that, I will try to be more active in finding good articles from other sources. I can't bitch unless I also offer an alternative. One interesting development lately has been the increasing labor unrest in Iran as workers begin to form unions to demand their pay. Most of those articles, however, are in Farsi or French but one, The Flying Carpet Institute blog has some pretty good stuff in English on the goings on inside Iran.
