#3 Yes, but neither ancient nor modern Persians are Arabs, Anonymoose, so it's not fair to hold them to the same high standard. They were permitted to represent the human form and face in their exquisite little miniatures, too, which everyone knows is strictly forbidden; yet they went merrily drawing for several centuries, I do believe, without divine punishment.

#5 Not for those exquisite miniatures, Varmint Graick1360. I'm not sure, but I think those were a Golden Age behaviour, not a modern one. Khomeni, et al are punishment for the Shah encouraging women to go to university in miniskirts with uncovered hair -- at least that's what the et als claim.
