Not that it would actually help, just make many of us feel a bit better when the balloon of hypocrisy and stupidity is punctured, but the fools and squeamish liars who have a "thing" about their phoney moral superiority should be forced to work with these people for a full one year tour. Better yet, bring their families along, plop 'em down in a house picked at random in Baghdad - where they can be blown up randomly or taken hostage and beheaded, then we'll see how long their inane PollyAnna babble and FantasyLand Rules hold.

Good people, excellent people, amazing people, working with both hands tied behind their backs... and working against the insanely bizarre aims of the most despicable lying murderous sick twisted barbaric fucks on the planet. Bar none.

That's why we shouldn't draw the line for them. All fear is ultimately fear of death and judgment so banning torture and defining the line does handcuff interrogators. Duh! If they know what we will never do, they'll just hold-out and refuse to talk. I'm not advocating torture, but fear of the unknown is vital in interrogation. Maybe they should read an Arabic Bible to them, especially the hellfire and damnation passages, and really put the fear of God in them, but then, Bible-thumping preaching meets the ACLU's definition of cruel and unusual punishment and all hell really would break loose. EU influenced PC should not dictate American military policy unless they all sign on to playing by the same rules they want to hold us to. Are they all willing to offer kosher meals or a Bible to their prisoners in their own language? A criminal trial by jury, with provision of secure prisons and fair sentences? What is just treatment of those who decapitate anyone who disagrees with a rusty knife in the name of God or orders the nuclear extermination of an entire nation, if not capital punishment? Also, supposedly new technology offered to Natalee Holloway's family to determine from recorded voices if those suspected of involvement are lying or not, and more accurately than standard lie detection tests, could have application in interrogation and even to determine if videotaped threats are a bluff or not. I think the company trying to market it to police and the government is based in Texas but I've only heard of it on a FOX report on her disappearance. Accurate lie detection would be a real boon...can you imagine if the UN and other politicians had to have their all their speeches analyzed for truth-telling? It'd make a great Jim Carrey sequel.

#3 Danielle, those voice-stress indicators are not anywhere more accurate than full-on polygraphs. They do have useful quick-screening purposes though....

#5 That Bull S***, suck-up XO is dead wrong: Rough interrogation techniques do work becasue the interogator holds all of the cards. If the detainee passes bad intel, or information...it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what will happen next.

This is not the same thing as a cell-mate snitching on another cell-mate in a US prison...where the information is used in a court of law. This is kill or be killed.

#6 There are two kinds of people in the military - those that are mission-oriented and those that are rule-book oriented. The two have little common ground. I always taught everyone I trained that the mission came first. If you have to bend some rules to accomplish the mission, do it. You may pay a price, but at least people won't die because you DIDN'T do something. That's one of several reasons I never advanced beyond E-7.

#8 CA and OP...precisely. That is exactly why the Patton's of the military are an anathema in peacetime. The suck-ups, butt-sniffers, and perfumed princes are politians who aspire to command for command's sake.

#9 OP, consider that nail hit on the head. htats why I got out - I knew I wasnt going up any further in peacetime. Same reason why I got out of ops at another government agency - politics had become more importnat than accomplishing the mission and ensuring the safety of the nation.

We are now seeing some of those leaders in position liek the XO, and there are also others who dont follow the politics.

I pray we have the right balance, it was far over to the Political side in the 90's, which is why we had 9/11.
