Drug-resistant dysentery emerges among gay men
h/t Instapundit
[UPI] Australian researchers are sounding the alarm over cases of a highly infectious intestinal illness that appear to be resistant to all forms of standard oral antibiotic treatment.

The disease is called shigellosis, a form of dysentery. So far, most cases have involved gay and bisexual men in the Australian state of Victoria, the researchers said.

Roundup suit lawyer accused of $200 million extortion plot
h/t Instapundit
[CBS] Law enforcement officials have arrested a Virginia lawyer involved in litigation over the health risks of Monsanto's Roundup weed killer product, with prosecutors accusing him of trying to extort an unnamed company into a $200 million consulting fee with his legal firm.

Timothy Litzenburg, 37, was charged with interstate intentions to extort, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Tuesday. Litzenburg represented a former school groundskeeper win a $289 million lawsuit last year against agribusiness giant Monsanto over Roundup, which has been linked to cancer (The settlement was later reduced to $78 million.)

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Ruthless Joe Biden Admits He'll Sacrifice Hundreds of Thousands of Blue-Collar Workers for His Green Dream
Yeah... that'll play well in the rust belt/battleground states. Good job Joe!
[PJMedia] You've got to give it to Democrats: they freely admit they do not care one bit about blue-collar workers. They don't. They're the party by and for leftist academics, illegal immigrants, and SJW whackjobs. Although this has been the case for at least a few decades, they've always pretended to care about John Doe. Not any longer. All pretenses are dropped.

Case in point: Joe Biden admitting during Thursday's Democratic presidential debate that he's more than willing to hang out blue-collar workers to dry in order to pursue a costly and largely useless green dream:

"Would you be willing to sacrifice some of that growth, even knowing potentially that it could displace thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of blue-collar workers in the interest of transitioning to that greener economy," the moderator asked Biden.

Instead of beating around the bush, Biden simply admitted that "the answer is yes."

#1  So just to sum up pretty much every demoncrat's political positions:

1.) We will destroy your jobs and make it hard for you to find another

2.) We will raise your taxes to pay for illegals and LGBTVERH@K$%2 groups

3.) We will take your guns and send the police and national guard after you if you refuse to give them up

4.) We will declare any speech we don't like hate speech and make it illegal

5.) We will get rid of all cheap energy and only use expensive and inefficient sources

6.) If you disagree with any of this, we will call you racist, homophobic and the patriarchy.

Anybody that votes demoncrat at this point get what they deserve.

Hunter Biden allegedly refusing to answer 'basic' finance questions in paternity suit
Watch the perjury, Hoover!
[Fox Business] The mother of Hunter Biden's child says the son of former vice president and Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden is refusing to answer any questions pertaining to his "basic" lifestyle and finances as the hearing in their tumultuous paternity case approaches, court papers show.

Lunden Roberts and the younger Biden are embroiled in a bitter court battle in Arkansas surrounding their 16-month-old baby, whom Roberts has argued he should support, according to court records and multiple reports.

The Daily Mail was first to report the latest legal filings, which were submitted to the court Wednesday.

Hunter Biden, the papers allege, "has provided no support for this child for over a year. The Court should not let the defendant continue to avoid his natural and legal duty to support his child by failing to provide basic information about his income, finances, and lifestyle."
*cough* Burisma *cough* China *cough*
His attorney did not immediately respond to a FOX Business request for comment.

The paternity scandal comes as DailyMailTV reports Biden's new South African wife is expecting his fifth child.

    * Ilhan Omar's campaign fundraiser strategist and lover Tim Mynett, 38, has officially divorced from his wife Beth Jordan, 55, DailyMail.com can reveal
*The 37-year-old Democratic Congresswoman was called an adulteress by Jordan in divorce court Thursday
*'I have a statement to make,' Jordan said in court, saying that her husband 'had an affair with Ilhan Omar' before being cut off by the judge
*She asked for her maiden name Beth Jordan to be restored. When asked why, she replied: 'I no longer want to have Mr. Mynett's name attached to me.'
*Mynett left the court grinning and clapping his hands in glee
*He said he was happy with the proceedings but would not comment further
*The couple's marriage was 'a rollercoaster of highs and lows,' Mynett, who shares a 13-year-old son with Jordan, said in court papers
*Jordan's camp hit back, saying: 'She's not going to let Tim paint a false picture of their marriage which was happy and fulfilling before Ilhan came on the scene'
*Omar filed for divorce from her husband in October and it was finalized a month later
She's quite the little whore, isn't she? First marrying her brother...

Vatican tribunal now overwhelmed by clergy abuse cases
VATICAN CITY (AP) ‐ The Vatican office responsible for processing clergy sex abuse complaints has seen a record 1,000 cases reported from around the world this year, including from countries it had not heard from before ‐ suggesting that the worst may be yet to come in a crisis that has plagued the Catholic Church.

Nearly two decades after the Vatican assumed responsibility for reviewing all cases of abuse, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is today overwhelmed, struggling with a skeleton staff that hasn’t grown at pace to meet the four-fold increase in the number of cases arriving in 2019 compared to a decade ago.

"I know cloning is against Catholic teaching, but if I could actually clone my officials and have them work three shifts a day or work seven days a week," they might make the necessary headway, said Monsignor John Kennedy, the head of the congregation’s discipline section, which processes the cases.

"We’re effectively seeing a tsunami of cases at the moment, particularly from countries where we never heard from (before)," Kennedy said, referring to allegations of abuse that occurred for the most part years or decades ago. Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Italy and Poland have joined the U.S. among the countries with the most cases arriving at the congregation, known as the CDF.

Kennedy spoke to The Associated Press and allowed an AP photographer and video journalists into the CDF’s inner chambers -- the first time in the tribunal’s history that visual news media have been given access. Even the Vatican’s most secretive institution now feels the need to show some transparency as the church hierarchy seeks to rebuild trust with rank-and-file Catholics who have grown disillusioned with decades of clergy abuse and cover-up.

Pope Francis took a step towards showing greater transparency with his decision this week to abolish the so-called "pontifical secret" that governs the processing of abuse cases to increase cooperation with civil law enforcement.

Pentagon Announces Plans to Monitor Foreign Trainees' Social Media Posts
[Mil.com] The Pentagon has completed re-screening all Saudi students in U.S. military training programs following a deadly Dec. 6 shooting rampage at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Defense Department officials announced Thursday.

No indications of additional threats have surfaced, they said.

Moving forward, DoD plans to increase vetting practices for for Saudi Arabian and other foreign nationals in training at military bases in the U.S., including checks of their social media posts.

The recent screenings included about a dozen friends of 21-year-old Saudi Royal Air Force 2nd Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, who was shot to death by a sheriff's deputy after killing three and injuring eight others in a classroom building at NAS Pensacola.

In a statement read in a conference call with reporters, Garry Reid, the director for Defense Intelligence, said the department ran all of the approximately 850 Saudi students currently in military training in the U.S. through databases and found "no information indicating an immediate threat scenario."

#2  ....850 Saudi students currently in military training in the U.S. through databases and found "no information indicating an immediate threat scenario."

Probably wouldn't have found any "immediate threats" had the database scan been run six months ago either.

The problem isn't your dog's habitual scratching and biting at his coat, it's the fleas.

DoD is pretty much powerless and attempting to pick this one up from the clean end. Important to remember, the FBI has responsibility for domestic terrorism. They appear to have been consumed with other matters in the last few years.

Letting the gad guys know you're monitoring their social media was probably not a wise decision.

Iowa man sentenced to 16 years for setting LGBTQ flag on fire
[MSN] An Ames man was sentenced Wednesday to about 16 years in prison after he set fire to a church's LGBTQ flag in June.

Adolfo Martinez, 30, of Ames, was found guilty last month of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights ‐ hate crime, third-degree harassment, and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender.

He was arrested after stealing a pride banner hanging at Ames United Church of Christ, 217 6th St., and burning it early June 11 outside Dangerous Curves Gentleman’s Club, 111 5th St., police said.

Martinez admitted to police that he lit the banner on fire with lighter fluid and a lighter after stealing it from the church, according to court documents.

#11  Perhaps, but this is being presented as a chilling display to curb public protest of the gay agenda of superior rights and special privilege that makes any anti-gay act a hate crime, of free speech. For the left the new tool to limit speech is to assert that “hate” negates protected freedom of expression. And they get to define what is “hate”.

It was also revealed Friday that Collyer, who is also a senior judge on the DC federal court, will resign her position as presiding judge on the FISA court at year’s end. Her current term was set to expire in March 2020.

Chief Justice John Roberts will replace Collyer with James Boasberg, a colleague of Collyer on the FISA court and DC federal bench. He was named to the FISA court in 2014 and is one of 11 judges on the rotating FISA court.

Sources say Collyer, 74, is leaving her presiding judge post because of health reasons.

While Collyer is stepping down as presiding judge, she will remain on the FISC until her term expires in March 2020.

-Land of the Free
How Democrats Could Undo Trump's Lasting Legacy in the Courts
[American Thinker] ...All told, the president has thus far had "158 judicial nominees confirmed to the Federal bench," WhiteHouse.gov informs, including "two Supreme Court justices, 44 Circuit Court judges, and 112 District Court judges." This judicial transformation is historic ‐ but it also can be made history. How?

Aside from the well-known power to impeach judges, Congress can also pack the Supreme Court. Yet it apparently has still another power, one little known: to abolish entire federal courts.

The only federal court mandated by the Constitution is the SCOTUS; as to "inferior courts," Article III states that Congress "may from time to time ordain and establish" them, which it has often done. But implied is that what Congress can make, it can unmake; or, as the Legal Information Institute puts it, the Houses can both "expand and contract the units of the system" (emphasis added).

This is not just theoretical but has already happened: Upset about outgoing president John Adams’s packing of the judiciary with Federalists, the Jeffersonians in 1802 repealed the Judiciary Act of 1801. They then abolished the courts the legislation had created. Moreover, no provision was made for the displaced jurists even though the Constitution guarantees judges lifetime tenure, and a challenge to this apparent omission was rejected by SCOTUS justice William Paterson. And that was that ‐ and thus was a precedent set.

...Now let’s talk about the future. While unlikely in 2020, at some point the Democrats will again control the presidency and both Houses of Congress. We also know that to today’s cutthroat, "woke" Left the end justifies the means. Considering this, do you really think they’re going to let the rulings of some black-robed lawyers ‐ people without an army or police force and who constitute (in theory) the "weakest branch" ‐ stymie their agenda? Not a chance.

The first thing the Left would do is pack the SCOTUS. Know that the number of justices is not constitutionally mandated but is set statutorily by Congress and at times has been more or less than nine.

In other words, a leftist legislature could raise the number to whatever was necessary to ensure an ironclad liberal majority (let’s say, 15), let its fellow traveler president nominate hard-left candidates for those positions and then confirm them. And, "Voila!" the Democrats have a judicial rubber stamp for their whole agenda.

Note that this kind of court packing was not only attempted by Democrat Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s, but has already been proposed as a near-future strategy.

Impeachment and removal of "conservative" justices could also be pursued. Outrageous? Well, would politicians willing to impeach a president on phony charges be above doing the same to a judge? Remember here that impeaching Justice Brett Kavanaugh, whom leftists claim is illegitimate, has already been proposed, too.

Of course, complete control of SCOTUS suffices to clear the way for a hard-left agenda. If the Democrats did want to expedite matters by eliminating all judicial speed bumps, however, they could pursue Article III court abolition and, if necessary, the impeachment of lower court judges. Any challenges to these actions would meet swift rejection, too, by the in-the-pocket SCOTUS.

And just like that, President Trump’s judicial legacy would go out the window. Too radical to happen, you say? Note that the post-mask-drop Democratic Party is defined by radicalism, wearing it like a badge.

Is the above more radical, after all, than socialism and the Green New Deal? That requires remaking our whole governmental system and economy. Is it more radical than one of the Democrats’ current major causes, eliminating the Electoral College? That requires actually altering the Constitution, which means 38 states would have to sign on. The court-revamping strategy requires only federal control and action, using current constitutional provisions. Sure, the Left would have to misapply them, but has that ever stopped it before?

All this, not to mention that the "power" of "judicial supremacy" is not constitutionally granted but is enjoyed at the other two branches’ pleasure. The moment a president says, paraphrasing Andrew Jackson, "The judges have made their decision ‐ now let them enforce it," it goes bye-bye.

Anyone who thinks today’s "woke," Ocasio-Cortez Democrats won’t embrace some combination of the above measures but will instead obediently abide by Trump judges’ inconvenient rulings, doesn’t know the Left. It’s Machiavellian ‐ and it plays for keeps.

If court-reshaping does come to pass, traditionalists’ only recourse may be state-level nullification, which Thomas Jefferson called the "rightful remedy" for all federal overreach. It would be bold action, too, and thus may some find it uncomfortably radical and revolutionary (like the Founders?). But what are they going to do? Keep filing more lawsuits?

#2  The only use they have for the Constitution is to keep the rubes from open rebellion. It's just an obstruction to their power. Which is why they desperately want to trash the 2nd Amendment.

...Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

- 2 Associate Justices of the Supreme Court
- 50 judges for the United States Courts of Appeals
- 133 judges for the United States District Courts
- 2 judges for the United States Court of International Trade

There are only 2 openings on the circuit courts of appeal, the least in 40 years, and a surprising number of sitting appellate judges are in their 70's and 80's. Fourth and Ninth Circuits are poised to flip next. Suspect that older judges are holding out in hopes that the 2020 election goes their way. If not there will likely be another massive exodus.

It's Official: House Dems Close Up Shop Without Sending Articles of Impeachment to Senate
h/t Instapundit
[PJ] On Thursday, the House of Representatives adjourned before voting to send the articles of impeachment to the U.S. Senate for a trial. This made House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's stall-tactic official ‐ Democrats are refusing to forward the impeachment to the Senate until they receive assurances the trial will be fair in their eyes. Yet this arguably violates the Constitution.

"Hoyer announces no more votes until January 7. Big cheer goes up in House chamber. This means the House won't approve a resolution on impeachment [managers] & to send impeachment [package] to Senate until at least January, 2020,"

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Revealing the funny side of the ‘Mossad'
[JP] In Alon Gur Arye’s new comedy, Mossad, which is opening throughout Israel on June 27 and is inspired by gag-filled American movies such as Airplane and Top Secret, all hell breaks loose – about every 30 seconds.

The chord bridge at the entrance to Jerusalem collapses on top of a man drinking coffee on the light rail. People are told that security has been breached at a reception but that they are under the protection of Israeli forces, and the guests all scream and run for cover, as the string quartet plays the theme from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho – one of the many movie references in the film.

The evil organization that kidnaps an American tech billionaire is called RBG, which stands for “really bad guys” – or could it be US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg? And when RBG kidnaps the befuddled, disgraced Mossad operative at the center of the story, Guy Moran (Tsahi Halevi, who is so handsome he looks like a special effect, but believably dim), along with a CIA agent, Linda Harris (Efrat Dor), the evil masterminds live-stream themselves to Mossad headquarters, threatening to behead their captives.

But after a moment, they’re shaking their heads in disbelief when the elderly Mossad head (Ilan Dar) demands to be sent a very 20th century videotape of the hostages holding newspapers. “Who can even find videotape anymore? Nobody reads a newspaper!” yell the bad guys.

These are just a tiny fraction of the jokes in Mossad and this broad, slapstick comedy is a dream come true for Gur Arye. He’s a quiet, sweet guy who everyone in the Tel Aviv cafe where we meet would probably guess is an engineer or a computer programmer, and not the director the film which is advertised on every bus and billboard all over Israel. They certainly wouldn’t guess that the soft-spoken Gur Arye would have managed to get two great directors – David Zucker (Airplane, the Naked Gun franchise) and Avi Nesher, the veteran Israeli director whose films all feature a great deal of humor – to be his mentors on the project.

“Everyone in Israel wants to do dramas,” said Gur Arye. “So I wanted to do spoofs, parodies. And I wanted to spoof something very Israeli.”

Merck receives FDA approval for Ebola vaccine
(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it approved drugmaker Merck & Co’s (MRK.N) Ebola vaccine Ervebo, making it the first FDA-authorised vaccine against the deadly virus.
"Do not use Ervebo© if you are allergic to it. Side effects can include living, instead of bleeding to death..."
The vaccine was used by the World Health Organization and Democratic Republic of the Congo as an investigational vaccine to help reduce Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks in few West African countries from 2014 to 2016.

The Ebola virus, which causes haemorrhagic fever and spreads from person to person through direct contact with body fluids, has killed more than 2,100 people in Congo since the middle of the year, making it the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history.

The vaccine, which is administered as a single-dose injection, will help to prevent EVD caused by Zaire ebolavirus in patients aged 18 years and older, the regulator said in a statement.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Prosecutor Durham Looking into Ex-CIA Director Brennan's Role in Russia Hoax
[Breitbart] The federal prosecutor probing the origins of the Russia-collusion hoax has requested "emails, call logs and other documents" from John Brennan, former President Barack Obama’s CIA director turned NBC and MSNBC contributor, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, the prosecutor charged with conducting the review into the origins of the Russia collusion probe, "wants to learn what Mr. Brennan told other officials, including the former FBI director James B. Comey, about his and the C.I.A.’s views of a notorious dossier of assertions about Russia and Trump associates," the Times noted, adding:
Mr. Durham’s pursuit of Mr. Brennan’s records is certain to add to accusations that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies. The president has long attacked Mr. Brennan as part of his narrative about a so-called deep state cabal of Obama administration officials who tried to sabotage his campaign, and Mr. Trump has held out Mr. Durham’s investigation as a potential avenue for proving those claims.

Brennan is considered an ardent critic of the Trump administration.

Durham is also investigating whether Brennan "privately contradicted his public comments, including May 2017 testimony to Congress, about both the dossier and about any debate among the intelligence agencies over their conclusions on Russia’s interference," the Times learned.

The list was completely public, according to the report.

Facebook has been criticized repeatedly in recent years for its regularly compromised security systems.

Iran leader urges deeper Muslim monetary links to fight US ‘hegemony’
So many delicious, salty tears!
[IsraelTimes] At Islamic conference in Malaysia, Rouhani suggests creation of special banking and financial mechanism among Moslem nations.
But only their clients trust Iran, and none of them have money.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man...
on Thursday urged Moslem nations to deepen financial and trade cooperation to fight what he described as US economic hegemony, using an Islamic conference in Malaysia as a platform to decry American sanctions against his country.
Ya know... if you gave up your nuclear bomb program, President Trump’s America would ease up. And it’ll be President Trump’s America until 2025.
Rouhani repeated his assertion that the US has used economic sanctions as the "main tools of domineering hegemony and bullying" of other nations.
Whereas Iran uses fake revolutionaries and real jihadis, funded by drug trafficking, to domineer and bully.
Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been gripped by violent protests since last month amid anger over a sharp hike in gasoline prices following US sanctions after Washington withdrew last year from Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. There has been a wave of arrests in Iran and rights group Amnesia Amnesty International has said at least 304 people were killed in the anti-government protests.

Rouhani said the US sought to cripple Iran with the "heaviest sanctions" but the country’s economy is on the mend and moving away from reliance on oil.
Betcha it’s not nearly as lucrative, though. Thank goodness Iran has the cocaine trade to fill in the gaps, managed by Hezbollah and the IRGC, kinda like North Korea’s white juche.
"The Moslem world should be designing measures to save themselves from the domination of the United States dollar and the American financial regime," he said at the opening ceremony of the three-day conference that included leaders from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
and host Malaysia.

Rouhani suggested the creation of a special banking and financial mechanism among Moslem nations, using local currencies for trade and giving each other trade privileges to deepen linkages.
Like that will ever happen in a low trust, winner take all, honour/shame culture.
He said rising extremism as well as challenges such as weak governance, poverty and corruption are endangering illusory sovereignty and paving the way for Western interference in Syria, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Afghanistan and other Moslem nations. But if Moslem countries harness their collective strength, they could confront such problems, he said.
True. If only they could. Even mostly non-Arab Iran can’t manage it under the Mad Mullahs — it isn’t realistic to expect more from Arab countries.
Rouhani proposed the Kuala Lumpur conference establish a joint fund to finance technological cooperation among Moslem nations, set up a a joint research center in artificial intelligence and cyberspace, and create a Moslem market in digital economy and cryptocurrency.
Dream big, I guess...
Notably absent from the conference is Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, which snubbed the meeting because it was not held under the Saudi-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Saudi Arabia and Iran are bitter rivals. Pakistain also withdrew from the conference in a move to assuage its ally, Saudi Arabia.
...which of course annoyed Pakistan's other ally, Iran. Oh well.
Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
launched a veiled criticism against the OIC, telling the conference that the platform that brings the Moslem world together was besieged by a "lack of implementation."
Unexpectedly.
"We still haven’t made any progress regarding the Paleostinian cause, we still can’t stop the exploitation of our resources, we still can’t say ’stop’ to the fragmentation of the Moslem world over sectarianism, that’s why," said Erdogan.
So, so true. Well summarized.
Moslems account for 94 percent of worldwide conflict with one out of three arms sold globally finding its way to the Middle East, he said. "The Moslems are using their resources for armament and for conflict and while doing so they are enriching the Western arm dealers," he added.
...and impoverishing themselves. It’s a lifestyle choice when you’re as untrustworthy as your neighbours.
Rouhani leaves Friday for a two-day visit to Japan.
Ooooooh — look at him being all diplomatic and stuff.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
Divisions in the Muslim world were self-evident as only about 20 countries sent leaders, or delegations to the Kuala Lumpur summit, though all 57 members of the OIC had been invited.

In welcoming remarks, Mahathir said the Kuala Lumpur Summit was meant to understand why Islam, the Muslims and their countries were "in a state of crisis, helpless and unworthy of this great religion."

Mahathir said the summit, which will end on Saturday, should address the world's perceptions of Islam, the rise of Islamophobia, the decline of the Islamic civilisation and reforms in governance needed by Muslim nations.

Libyan National Army inches closer to central Tripoli despite Turkey’s warnings
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Military Information Division of the Libyan National Army announced on Wednesday that their forces are steadily progressing towards the plateau region in central Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, indicating their control over several new sites.

The Military Information Division said on its official Twitter that "the Libyan Arab Armed Forces’ units are progressing steadily towards the plateau and control several new sites after the withdrawal of gangs affiliated with the al-Wefaq government."

They continued: "The Libyan National Army’s forces require the people of the Hadaba region to take the highest levels of precaution and stay away from the locations, gatherings and headquarters of armed militia groups, as they will all be targeted by air force fighters after monitoring and reconnaissance."

The Military Information Division emphasized that, "these sites are points of concentration for our armed forces. This progress comes with aerial support and coverage by air force fighters, which perform their duties and implement all plans to the fullest."

The Libyan National Army has been on the offensive in the Tripoli District for nearly a week now, as they look to take control of the capital for the first time ever.

Boy, 6, thrown from gallery balcony, starts to speak again
[ARYNEWS.TV] A six-year-old boy who was left fighting for his life after being thrown from the viewing gallery of the Tate Modern art gallery has begun to speak for the first time, his family said on Thursday.

The boy was visiting London from La Belle France when he was thrown 100 ft by a stranger in August, leaving him in intensive care with broken arms and legs and a fractured spine.

Jonty Bravery, 18, of Ealing, west London, later admitted a charge of attempted murder for the assault.

In an update posted on his GoFundMe page, the boy’s family said: "our little knight begins to speak! He pronounces one syllable after another, not all of them, and most of the time we have to guess what he means, but it’s better and better."

Almost $190,000 has been raised by thousands of donors towards the boy’s medical fees which have included two operations. His family also say that his physical abilities have begun to improve, despite still causing him pain.

"He still has lots of splints but he is starting to move his four limbs now," they said.

His attacker, who has autism spectrum disorder, said in court he carried out the assault because he wanted to appear on the news. He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey court on Feb. 17.

According to the Iraqi security forces, their troops targeted the Islamic State hideouts in the southern part of the al-Qa’im District, Wadi Houran, and al-Husseiniyat.

This operation was coordinated with the Popular Mobilization Units’ (Hashd al-Sha’abi) al-Anbar forces, who have been carrying out daily search-and-destroy missions against the Islamic State.

The Iraqi security forces noted that the operation is also being conducted in coordination with the Iraqi Air Force, U.S.-led Coalition, and army.

Cyprus arrests 3 Israelis amid probe into spy van
Possibly this is not related to the War on Terror, but in case it isn’t, now we know.
[IsraelTimes] Cyprus police have arrested three employees of a high-tech surveillance equipment company owned by an Israeli former intelligence officer amid a probe of the firm’s business activities.

Police said the two men and one woman, ages 30, 35 and 41, were under investigation for suspected breaches of private communication and personal data laws.

They face 13 possible charges, including conspiracy to commit a criminal act and obtaining registration under false pretenses, Cyprus police say.

All three are due to appear in court on Friday for a custody hearing.

Police launched a probe of the company, Cyprus-registered WiSpear, following reports that alleged a van supposedly crammed with sophisticated surveillance technology was used to spy on people on the east Mediterranean island nation.

WiSpear has denied any wrongdoing, saying it neither sold nor rented "intelligence systems" to Cypriot authorities and doesn’t provide "intelligence services" for clients.

WiSpear was incorporated in 2013 and began operating four years later. It is run by Tal Dillian, an Israeli who an earlier Forbes video showed boasting about the vehicle’s surveillance capabilities.

US Justice Department seeks to revoke citizenship of Hamas supporter
[IsraelTimes] Officials say Paleostinian man hid his conviction and incarceration in Israel for helping terror group during naturalization process.

The US Justice Department said Thursday it was seeking to revoke the citizenship of a naturalized Paleostinian man who hid his support for the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terror group and his conviction in Israel related to that support from American immigration authorities.

The department said it had filed a lawsuit against Abdul Jabbar Naji Shalabi, 39 and a resident of Michigan, to revoke his US citizenship.

It said that while studying at Bir Zeit University in the West Bank in 2002, Shalabi was arrested by Israeli authorities for concealing acetone ‐ used in making bombs ‐ on behalf of a Hamas bomb maker. He was jugged
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and later released, and became a US citizen in 2005.

It said Shalabi lied about his assistance for Hamas and about his arrest and conviction.

"The Department of Justice is deeply committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals who defraud the American people and government by concealing their material support for terrorists," Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt said.

Prosecutors said in a statement the men were suspected of involvement in the 2012 kidnapping by the group of British war correspondent John Cantlie
...captured by ISIS in July 2012 along with Jeroen Oerlemens, they were freed by the Free Syrian Army a week later, then Mr. Cantlie was captured again by ISIS in November 2012 with American newsie John Foley. He was last seen in an ISIS video in 2016. There were rumours he had been spotted in Hajin, Syria at the beginning of 2019...
and Dutch photographer Jeroen Oerlemens.
...after his release by the original FSA, which dissolved shortly thereafter, he continued his war correspondent career until he was shot dead by an ISIS sniper in Sirte, Libya in 2016...
The case was opened in 2013 after Portuguese authorities received information about the kidnappings from British authorities.

Over the past six years Sherlocks have traced the radicalization and movements of the men, the statement said.

They converted to Islam and joined Islamic State group, the statement said, and traveled to Syria with their wives and children.

They are accused of joining, supporting and recruiting on behalf of a terror organization.

Two of them are in Portugal and have been interrogated, the statement said. The whereabouts of the other six wasn't known.

Suicide blast in Lakki Marwat, no casualties
[DAWN] A jacket wallah went kaboom! in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Lakki Marwat district on Thursday morning, police officials confirmed to DawnNewsTV. There was no loss to life or property, they added.

District Police Officer Qasim Ali Khan said that there was a rally protesting the death sentence

given to former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Perv Musharraf

...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. team in the vicinity, adding that it was unclear who or what the bomber wished to target.

He said that investigations to ascertain the motives of the attacker have begun.

On the other hand, Lakki Marwat Deputy Commissioner Jehangir Azam Wazir said the polio team was at a distance of three kilometres from the blast. Though Wazir insisted that the attack did not target the anti-polio campaign, he added that it has been momentarily suspended and will be resumed once a security clearance is issued.

On Wednesday, two coppers, deployed on a security detail for polio teams, were martyred after person or persons unknown shot up them in Lower Dir. No officials from the polio vaccination team were hurt as they were at a distance from the firing, police said.

Syrian Army kicks off 2nd phase of Idlib offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has kicked off the second phase of their Idlib offensive this evening after reports of their troops getting in position for the attack.

Led by the 25th Special Mission Forces (formerly Tiger Forces), the Syrian Arab Army began the attack by the storming the jihadist defenses at the Umm al-Jalil axis in southeastern Idlib.

Thus far, no gains have been reported by the Syrian Arab Army; however, heavy festivities are ongoing between the Syrian Army and jihadist rebels.

Earlier this week, the Syrian Arab Army sent a large number of reinforcements from the 7th Division and 25th Special Mission Forces to southeastern Idlib.

These reinforcements, coupled with the increased Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s from the Syrian and Russian air forces, further confirmed the reports that the military was preparing to kickoff this long-awaited operation.

According to a military source near the front-lines, the primary objective of this operation is to capture the remaining towns and villages south of Ma’arat al-Nu’man.

By doing so, the Syrian Army will control a large part of the strategic Hama-Idlib Highway and an important part of the Jabal al-Zawiya region.

It should be noted that the jihadist rebels themselves have been aware of this operation, as they have sent reinforcements from Latakia and other parts of northwestern Syria to this front.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
‘Act of evil’: 15 horses shot and killed in bizarre Kentucky hunt
[NYPOST] Fifteen horses ‐ some of them pregnant or very young ‐ appear to have been rubbed out at a Kentucky strip mine in a "very large act of evil," according to a new report.

The carcasses were discovered on a site along US Route 23 near the Floyd-Pike County line. Some of the horses were 1-year-old or younger, and others were pregnant, according to local outlet WYMT.

"This is very inhumane and it’s a very cruel act of somebody who just apparently had nothing else to do ... just to go back on a strip job and shoot down horses who were, one of them obviously was feeding, had grass in its mouth," Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt told the station. "It looked like a battlefield for just horses, we counted 15 that we found dead."

Rescue groups on the site told the outlet it appeared the horses were hunted ‐ and law enforcement added that it appeared a low-caliber rifle was used.

"Seeing them bumped off is ... it’s beyond horrific," Tonya Conn, with local group Dumas Rescue, told the outlet. "These horses were scattered in various, various places, distances from each other, so they had been shot, and they’d scattered, then hunted and shot down."

Megan Goble, who lives near the site and whose family owns part of the land where the horses roamed, told NPR that at least two of the slain horses were pregnant.

"I’ve done rescue for a long time. I’ve seen some pretty bad things," Goble told the network. "This was different. This was a very large act of evil, for lack of a better term. I mean, there’s no other way that I can describe it. Somebody went out of their way to go up there and kill these horses, and not even quickly, for no reason. No reason whatsoever."

The animals lived in two main herds, she said ‐ some brought to the wooded, secluded area by their owners and others who were born there.

Since reports emerged about the slaughter, more than 30 people have called in to pledge money toward a reward for information about the shooting, WYMT reported.

The reward, which was originally $500, is now estimated to be around $5,000.

Three people killed in shooting in central Moscow
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russia’s FSB security service said it has "neutralized" a gunman who opened fire in central Moscow and confirmed an unspecified number of casualties, in a statement carried by Russian news agencies.

"An unknown individual opened fire near building number 12 on Bolshaya Lubyanka street, there are casualties. The identity of the criminal is being established. The criminal has been neutralized," agencies quoted the FSB as saying, without giving further details.

Three people were killed in the shooting in central Moscow on Thursday evening near the headquarters of Russia’s FSB security service headquarters, the Izvestia newspaper reported, citing a source.

Earlier on Thursday, a witness told Rooters she had heard gun shots fired in the same area and a video shared on social media showed several people resembling coppers holding assault rifles running down a nearby street.

US denounces Iran rights abuses, imposes sanctions on judges
[IsraelTimes] Pompeo denounces Tehran’s violent crackdown on recent protests, says ’appeasement of the regime simply will not work’.

The United States has imposed sanctions on additional senior Iranian officials for human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
abuses as the Trump administration increases its "maximum pressure campaign" on the Tehran government.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denounced the recent violent crackdown by Iranian authorities against widespread protests, and the Treasury Department on Thursday targeted two top Iranian judges with penalties. Pompeo assailed Iranian officials for "hypocrisy" by depriving citizens, particularly ethnic and religious minorities of their constitutional rights.

Pompeo said he had redesignated Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
as a "country of particular concern" for religious freedom, a status that adds a layer of potential sanctions against the government. He also said the administration would enact travel bans on officials found to have violated human rights, as well as their families.

"The United States has stood, and will stand under President Trump, for the Iranian people," Pompeo said in a speech at the State Department. "The appeasement of the regime simply will not work."

The sanctions announced by the Treasury Department freeze any assets the two judges may have in US jurisdictions and bar Americans from any transactions with the judges. The sanctions will also affect foreigners doing business with the judges, who sit at the top of two branches of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

"Abolghassem Salavati and Mohammad Moghisseh oversaw the Iranian regime’s miscarriage of justice in show trials in which journalists, attorneys, political activists, and members of Iran’s ethnic and religious minority groups were penalized for exercising their freedom of expression and assembly and sentenced to lengthy prison terms, lashes, and even execution," the department said in a statement.

Salavati runs Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court. The statement said he had sentenced so many people to capital punishment that he is nicknamed the "the Judge of Death." Moghisseh presides over Branch 28 of court, and the statement said he had sentenced numerous artists to lengthy sentences for "collusion against national security and propaganda against the state allegedly found in their artwork."

Great White North
Canada to US: Don’t sign China deal until Canadians released
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday he has asked the United States to hold off on any final trade agreement with China until two Canadians detained in China have been released.

Beijing detained former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor last December in an apparent attempt to pressure Canada to release Meng Wanzhou, a top executive at Chinese tech giant Huawei. The daughter of Huawei’s founder was arrested last December at the request of US authorities who want her on fraud charges.

In an interview with the French-language TV network TVA that aired on Thursday, Trudeau said Canada has asked the Trump administration to use ongoing trade talks with China as leverage in securing the release of the two Canadians.

"We’ve said that the United States should not sign a final and complete agreement with China that does not settle the question of Meng Wanzhou and the two Canadians," Trudeau said in translated remarks.

No evidence has been provided in the Kovrig and Spavor cases and they have not been allowed access to family members or lawyers while in Chinese custody.

China and the US are embroiled in a trade war that has at times roiled global financial markets. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said Meng is not a bargaining chip in US-China trade talks.

Meng is accused of lying to banks about the company’s dealing with Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
in violation of US trade sanctions. She is out on bail in Vancouver and living in her multimillion-dollar mansion awaiting extradition proceedings.

Meng’s detention severely damaged Beijing’s relations with Ottawa. China has stopped importing certain Canadian products like canola, and it also re-sentenced a convicted Canadian drug smuggler to death after the Meng arrest as part of an apparent campaign of intimidation and retribution against Canada.

China has often retaliated against foreign governments and corporations in diplomatic disputes.

Saudi concert stabbing suspect took orders from al-Qaeda in Yemen: Ekhbariya TV
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A man arrested for stabbing three performers at a live show in Soddy Arabia

channel Ekhbariya said on Thursday.

The trial of the suspected assailant, previously identified only as a 33-year-old Yemeni resident, had begun, the broadcaster added.

The Nov. 11 attack occurred at King Abdullah Park, one of several venues hosting a months-long entertainment festival as part of government efforts to open up Saudi society and diversify its economy away from oil.

It sparked fears of a potentially violent backlash in the country against social reforms implemented by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

, including ending bans on women driving, gender segregation and public entertainment.

The victims of the attack, two men and a woman, sustained "superficial wounds" and were stabilized after receiving medical care, state media reported at the time.

Twitter users in Saudi Arabia condemned the stabbing of three actors and voiced their support for the recent arrival of public entertainment events in the Kingdom.

SpaceX to offer internet (Starlink) in southern states before 2020 hurricane season.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission approved SpaceX’s request to increase the number of lanes its Starlink satellites can orbit, a modification the company said would accelerate service rollout across the United States.

The FCC said SpaceX can field satellites in 72 rings around the Earth at 550 kilometers — three times as many as the commission approved in April.

SpaceX has launched 120 of a planned 12,000 small broadband satellites into low Earth orbit. The company is placing its first 1,584 satellites in a 550-kilometer orbit, with later satellites planned for higher and lower altitudes.

In August, SpaceX told the FCC that by tripling the number of lanes for those first Starlink satellites, it could build out enough coverage to offer internet access in southern states by the 2020 hurricane season.

Satellite internet is often used in emergency response after natural disasters damage fibers and cell towers. SpaceX is building out Starlink from the poles, with coverage expanding towards the equator as more satellites get launched.

“Grant of this application will allow SpaceX to accelerate the deployment of its satellite constellation to deliver broadband service throughout the United States, especially to those who live in areas underserved or unserved by terrestrial systems,” the FCC said Dec. 19.

SpaceX said the Starlink orbit modifications could cut the number of Starlink launches necessary by up to 50%. Under the revised plans, each of the 72 orbital rings will have 22 satellites instead of 66, meaning a single Falcon 9 launch can now populate approximately three rings. The company has been launching 60 satellites at a time on its Falcon 9 rockets. The next Starlink mission, and SpaceX’s last launch of the year, is planned for late December.

DARPA director stepping down.
[SpaceNews] Steven Walker, the 21st director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, announced his resignation Dec. 17, a DARPA spokesman said.

Walker’s resignation is effective January 10, 2020.

Walker was appointed director of DARPA in November 2017 after serving as the deputy director of the agency from October 2012 to December 2016, and as acting director from January 2017 through October 2017.

DARPA deputy director Peter Highnam will assume the role of acting director until a permanent director is appointed. Highnam, who came to DARPA in 2018, was the former director of research at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and a former director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA). Prior to joining IARPA, he held senior positions in the Department of Health and Human Services and in private industry.

Location Data Companies
[NYT] EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY, everywhere on the planet, dozens of companies ‐ largely unregulated, little scrutinized ‐ are logging the movements of tens of millions of people with mobile phones and storing the information in gigantic data files. The Times Privacy Project obtained one such file, by far the largest and most sensitive ever to be reviewed by journalists. It holds more than 50 billion location pings from the phones of more than 12 million Americans as they moved through several major cities, including Washington, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Each piece of information in this file represents the precise location of a single smartphone over a period of several months in 2016 and 2017. The data was provided to Times Opinion by sources who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to share it and could face severe penalties for doing so. The sources of the information said they had grown alarmed about how it might be abused and urgently wanted to inform the public and lawmakers.

#11  ^ This is routinely done. Why do you think Google etc spend billions to acquire shitty little traffic-monitoring companies?

A: Location-based behaviors, joined with recency & frequency time series data, are far more valuable than search or web-surfing or app usage data alone. Join the two types of data and you have a gold mine of consumer intent.

If you can reliably determine where, when and for what duration a person spent his time-- AND how frequently & recently he went to and stayed at those locations -- you can create a profile of that person's behavior and intentions that is will enable valid conclusions about past events and good predictions about future behaviors.

  • Chrystul says she acted in self defense after he drugged her and tried to have sex with her after she told him she didn't want to

  • The teen's lawyers sought to apply an 'affirmative defense' under a state law which shields victims of sex trafficking

  • The law allows victims to be acquitted of certain charges if they can prove they committed the crime because they were being trafficked

  • A judge ruled on December 9 that the defense did not apply to Chrystul's case

  • Her lawyer is now preparing to appeal that ruling as Chrystul remains in jail

UN peacekeepers in Haiti ‘fathered hundreds of babies' then abandoned mothers
[TheTimes] United Nations peacekeepers fathered hundreds of babies in Haiti then abandoned young mothers to lives of single parenthood and poverty, the academic leading a research study has told The Times.

Many of those impregnated were underage girls who traded sex for food or "for a few coins" as they struggled to survive in wake of political upheaval and natural disaster.

An extensive study into the impact of one of the UN’s longest peacekeeping deployments, published today on The Conversation academic website says "girls as young as 11 were sexually abused and impregnated by peacekeepers and . . . ’left in misery’ to raise their children alone".

-Land of the Free
It begins: Virginia forms active militia to protect sheriffs, citizens from unconstitutional laws
[Law Enforcement Today] Things are getting really bad in Virginia. But this group isn’t going down without a fight.

Virginia ‐ Earlier in the week, we reported on how lawmakers over in Virginia were threatening to use the National Guard if members of local law enforcement refused to enforce laws passed in the state that they felt violated the second amendment.

Well, looks like Tazewell County isn’t going down without a fight. On top of calling themselves a second amendment sanctuary county, they’re also crafting a militia as well. The Virginia county has taken the movement that has swept across the state and added an element that is sure to trigger pro gun-grabbing politicians in the state.

Just this past Tuesday, on December 10th, the Board of Supervisors from Tazewell County passed two different resolutions in light of controversy circling those who are pro-gun. The first resolution declared the county to be a second amendment sanctuary. This is not at all surprising to see, as 76 out of 95 counties, 9 out of 38 independent cities, and 13 towns have adopted second amendment sanctuary resolutions.

The second item on the agenda was the proposition of establishing a militia in the county. When both of the resolutions passed, the crowd cheered loudly in support of the decisions. Also, the resolutions didn’t exactly pass by a small margin; the votes were unanimous, with more than 200 citizens standing by in support.

The motion of the creation of the militia had already succeeded in an unofficial way based on the results of a survey conducted earlier in the month by county officials. But Board Chairman Travis Hackworth said people have persisted to press for the district to declare itself a second amendment sanctuary.

Former British MI6 agent weighs in on POTUS: Pierce Brosnan praises economy under Trump
[Washington Examiner] Actor Pierce Brosnan, who once wondered last year how long he'd handle living in the United States under President Trump, praised the state of the economy.

Brosnan, 66, was asked during an interview with ITK what his thoughts now are about leaving the country.

"I think what he’s done for the economy is very good," Brosnan said. "People are working, and that’s a step in the right direction."

He added, "This country is part of my life. I’m an American citizen. I love America and America’s been very good to me. And I want to see happiness come back into our society," he added.

Brosnan did criticize Trump for his handling of environmental issues. He said Trump "has to pay attention to the climate change" and "support the rallying call of the young people."

"He has to get out of the coal business, the oil business. It’s just devouring the Earth around us. And there are other ways. We’ve seen it from other societies, other cultures," the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star continued.

Last year, Brosnan, who played James Bond in multiple films from 1995 to 2002, told the Daily Mail that Trump was destroying the U.S.

"That man has torn this country apart, and you have to work out how much longer you can stay here," he said.

Santa Claus Accused Of Quid Pro Quo For Giving Children Gifts In Exchange For Good Behavior
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐Legislators have begun to hold hearings on impeaching Santa Claus after an overheard conversation seemed to imply he was offering a quid pro quo: gifts in exchange for good behavior.

FBI agents spied on Claus at various malls as he repeatedly said things like, "Sure, I'll get you a pony. But first, I need you to do something for me... be a good little boy!" The FBI was able to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on Claus, because it's easier to get a FISA warrant than to get a Costco membership.

"Ho ho noooooo!" Santa Claus cried as investigators leaped out and cuffed him at a Dayton, OH mall. "Not good! Sad!"

"It was a perfect conversation," Claus said, defending himself in a series of fiery tweets. "Absolutely perfect. I was simply talking to little Billy and asked him to keep tabs on his sister, Sally, who has been involved in some corruption. Who doesn't want to stop corruption? Did I offer Billy a new Nintendo Switch in exchange for his good behavior? Possibly. Am I planning on giving Sally coal because she's a little punk? Maybe. Where's my lawyer?"

Unfortunately, he was assigned a public defender, who turned out to be Rudy Giuliani.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Mortar shell fired from Gaza, drawing retaliatory Israeli strikes
I tagged this as Hamas, because they’re responsible for the Gaza Strip, but I suspect it was actually Islamic Jihad who shot off the rocket — on Iran’s orders
[IsraelTimes] No reports of injuries or damages as shell strikes open field; projectile was the second to be launched at Israel on Thursday.

A projectile was fired Thursday from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip toward southern Israel, prompting retaliatory strikes by the Israeli military against Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, positions in the coastal enclave.

The projectile ‐ apparently a mortar shell ‐ struck an open field in the Sha’ar Hanegev region, a local government spokesperson said. There were no injuries or damage caused the attack.

Incoming rocket sirens were set off in Kfar Azza, a kibbutz near the Gaza border, the army said.

Hours later, the Israel Defense Forces launched a series of strikes on Hamas targets in the Strip.

News outlets in Gaza reported that the strikes targeted Hamas posts throughout the enclave, from the area around Rafah in the south to near Beit Lahia in the north.

"A short while ago, IDF aircraft attacked underground infrastructure and a naval target belonging to the Hamas terror group in the southern Gaza Strip, as well as a military installation belonging to the terror group in the north of the Strip," the military confirmed in a statement, noting that the attack was in retaliation for the rocket strike earlier in the evening.

There were no immediate reports of Paleostinian injuries.

The projectile fired from Gaza on Thursday evening was the second to be launched at Israel by Paleostinian bandidos hard boyz that day, after a rocket was fired in the predawn hours of the morning.

The Israel Defense Forces said the earlier rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system, with no reports of injury or damage. In response, Israeli aircraft struck a Hamas weapons production facility in northern Gaza, the army said, noting it holds the terror group, which rules Gaza, responsible for all violence emanating from it.

Israel later announced it had restricted the permitted fishing zone off the coast of the Gaza Strip to 10 nautical miles in response to the rocket fire.
The Jerusalem Post adds:
According to Palestinian media in the coastal enclave the strikes were said to have targeted Hamas sites in Khan Yunis and Rafiah in the south as well as targets in Beit Lahia in the northern part of the Strip.

Iraq
Political deadlock delays choice of new PM to steer Iraq out of crisis
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi politicians said on Thursday that deadlock in parliament was holding up the selection of an interim prime minister, meaning leaders would miss a deadline to name a replacement for Adel Abdul Mahdi and prolong nationwide unrest.

More than 450 people, mostly unarmed demonstrators but also some members of the security forces, have been killed since a wave of popular unrest began on Oct. 1. Protesters, most of them young, are demanding an overhaul of a political system they see as profoundly corrupt and keeping most Iraqis in poverty.

The protests have shaken the country out of two years of relative calm following the defeat of ISIS bully boys.

Infighting between political parties who are clinging onto power has fueled the crisis and threatens to cause more unrest as protesters lose patience.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned last month under pressure from the streets but has remained in office in a caretaker capacity. The constitutional deadline to name a replacement expires on Thursday.

President Barham Salih this week asked the largest bloc in parliament to nominate a new premier to form a government.

Lawmakers and politicians said Salih could now delay the nomination to Dec. 22, based on a federal court ruling allowing national holidays to be excluded from the run-up to the constitutional deadline.

The house failed on Wednesday to pass a new electoral law, a key demand of protesters, which would make elections fairer after each round in recent years has been marred by allegations of fraud.

Protesters demand a new electoral law and committee, but also the removal of the entire political class, and a prime minister with no party affiliation.

Europe
Suspect in 2017 Paris killing of Jewish woman won’t stand trial
[IsraelTimes] French court rules Kobili Traore can’t be held criminally responsible for Sarah Halimi’s killing because he was in a psychotic state from marijuana use.

A man accused of murdering his Jewish neighbor in Gay Paree will stand not trial after a French court ruled Thursday he could not be held responsible for the killing because he was in a psychotic state from smoking marijuana.

Kobili Traore is alleged to have beaten his neighbor, 66-year-old Sarah Halimi, to death in 2017 while calling her a demon and shouting about Allah, before throwing her body from the window of her third-story apartment.

The appeals court, whose decision Thursday ended Traore’s detention, ordered he be hospitalized or made to attend a drug rehabilitation program. It also ordered security measures be put in place for 20 years, including a ban on him from contacting the victim’s relatives or returning to the scene of the crime.

But Traore "does appear to have voluntarily ended the life of Sarah Halimi," the court ruled, saying the killing was partly because of anti-Semitism.

The court also retained the aggravated element of a hate crime in the indictment against Traore, but determined it would not go to trial because Traore was not fully aware of his actions on the night of April 3, when he killed Halimi, according to the court.

The French Jewish community has long claimed Halimi, a physician and kindergarten teacher, was the victim of an anti-Semitic crime.

The appeals court’s decision "marks the advent of a policy that gives impunity to anti-Semitic murder in La Belle France, EUJF, the French-Jewish student association, wrote Thursday on Twitter.

Last January, Traore was determined fit to stand trial following an assessment. But that was overturned after a judge requested a second series of tests, which determined that the Malian immigrant was not able to stand trial.

A third assessment found Traore did not suffer from mental illness, but that he could not be held responsible for his actions at the time of Halimi’s murder as he was in a state of "acute delirium."

Prosecutors initially announced after Halimi’s killing that it was an anti-Semitic crime.

Traore pummeled Halimi, a physician and kindergarten teacher, for an hour as police stood outside the woman’s door, according to reports. He shouted about Allah and called her a "demon" before throwing her to her death. Traore had called Halimi’s daughter "dirty Jewess" two years before killing the mother, the daughter has said.

The attack took place in Tal Halaf southwest of Ras al-Ain, which was taken by the Ottoman Turkish military during its offensive against Kurdish Death Eaters in October.

It blamed the attack on the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which has ties to the Death Eater Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) inside Turkey.

"The PKK/YPG terror group continues its treacherous attacks targeting innocent civilians. The child murderers this time detonated a boom-mobile in a residential area in Tal Halaf southwest of Ras al-Ain, killed five innocent civilians including three children," the ministry tweeted.

Lebanon’s PM-designate Hassan Diab vows to form government quickly
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Leb’s newly-named prime minister Hassan Diab vowed on Thursday to form a government quickly that works to pull the country out of economic crisis and reassures people who have protested against the political class for two months.Diab, a little-known academic and former education minister, was designated premier on Thursday with backing from Lebanese Hezbollah and its allies. Support from the Iran-backed group guarantees a thorny path for any candidate, potentially inviting push back from Western and Gulf nations that had supported the outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
.

"All our efforts must now focus on stopping the collapse and restoring confidence," he said from the presidential palace, after meeting with President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, who summoned him for the appointment.

Diab, 60, faces the daunting task of forming a government to tackle the crippling financial crisis in one of the most indebted countries of the world. While gaining the majority of the votes, he failed to get the support of the country's major Sunni leaders, including Hariri, which will make it difficult for him to form a new government.

Diab, who served as education minister in 2011, gained attention after caretaker prime minister Hariri withdrew his name from consideration following weeks of haggling and deep divisions between the various factions over naming him again. Hariri resigned Oct. 29 in response to unprecedented mass protests against the entire political class while an already dire economic crisis was quickly deteriorating.

New York State providing $10 million to protect religious institutions
[IsraelTimes] Governor Cuomo says, ’With anti-Semitism and hate crimes on the rise,’ his administration will ’do all we can to protect our communities against the threats we face’.

New York State has awarded $10 million for the protection of "religious-based institutions and non-public schools from hate crimes," Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo announced Thursday.

The money, which marks the second round of funding under New York’s Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes Grant Program, will fund more than 200 projects, the Governor’s Office said in a statement.

Each eligible institution will receive $50,000 for additional security training, cameras, door-hardening, improved lighting, state-of-the-art technology and other related security upgrades.

The announcement comes just over a week after New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said that he intended to establish a new unit focused on hate crimes separate from the existing NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force in response to the recent shooting of four people, including two Hasidic Jews, at a kosher grocery in New Jersey.

Anti-Semitic incidents in New York have increased significantly this year, according to data from the New York Police Department. Through September, there have been 163 reported incidents, up from 108 over the same period last year ‐ an increase of 50 percent. Anti-Semitic incidents make up a majority of reported hate crimes in New York City.

The incidents include a rash of assaults on men in Brooklyn who are identifiably Jewish.
Those were mostly done by African-American kids, I believe, not white supremacists...
A poster for a book about Ruth Bader Ginsburg was vandalized in Brooklyn, March, 2019. (Chevi Friedman/Twitter/via JTA)
According to the Anti-Defamation League, in a statement earlier this year, at least 12 white supremacists have been arrested on allegations of plotting, threatening or carrying out anti-Semitic attacks in the US since the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue over one year ago.

The Anti-Defamation League also counted at least 50 incidents in which white supremacists are accused of targeting Jewish institutions’ property since a gunman killed 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue on October 27, 2018. Those incidents include 12 cases of vandalism involving white supremacist symbols and 35 cases in which white supremacist propaganda was distributed.

The ADL said its nationwide count of anti-Semitic incidents remains near record levels. It has counted 780 anti-Semitic incidents in the first six months of 2019, compared to 785 incidents during the same period in 2018.

Phones of Pakistani officials allegedly targeted by Israeli spyware
Oh dear. How absolutely dreadful. But did they really believe that announcing — repeatedly — that they’re at war with the Zionist entity would not eventually be noticed?
[IsraelTimes] Report says unclear who was behind hacking, which took advantage of vulnerability in WhatsApp that NSO Group has been accused of exploiting.

The phones of some two dozen Pak officials were allegedly targeted by spyware developed by Israeli firm NSO Group.

Among those possibly affected were top defense and intelligence officials in Pakistain, the Guardian reported Thursday.

The suspected technology was believed to have taken advantage of a security vulnerability in the WhatsApp messaging application.

Pakistain has not published details of the alleged hack, but the report said there were signals Pakistain’s government was working to address the issue.

It was unclear who was behind the apparent hacking, though the Guardian noted the incident could raise questions over whether Pak rival India is using NSO technology to spy on domestic and international targets.

NSO was accused last month of hacking an Indian opposition politician’s phone during the country’s election this year.

That revelation came days after the Facebook-owned WhatsApp filed a lawsuit in the US against the NSO Group, accusing it of using the hugely popular instant messaging platform to conduct cyber espionage on nearly 1,400 journalists, diplomats, dissidents and human right activists worldwide.

Also in November, Rooters reported that senior government and military officials from some 20 countries allied with the United States were targeted, citing people familiar with WhatsApp’s internal investigation.

The Israeli firm has said it only licenses its software to governments for "fighting crime and terror."

According to Rooters, victims of the spying campaign included people in the United States, Mexico, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Pakistain and India, but it was unclear whether government officials in those countries were affected.

Nearly two dozen activists, lawyers and journalists were targeted in India ‐ WhatsApp’s biggest market with some 400 million active users ‐ according to Indian media reports.

New Delhi asked WhatsApp to "explain the kind of breach and what it is doing to safeguard the privacy of millions of Indian citizens," Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote on Twitter, denying the government had used the malware to spy on its citizens.

But opposition leaders accused the government of invading citizens’ privacy.

The head of WhatsApp has said the lawsuit was filed after an investigation showed NSO Group’s role in the cyberattack, despite its denials.

"NSO Group claims they responsibly serve governments, but we found more than 100 human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
defenders and journalists targeted in an attack last May. This abuse must be stopped," Will Cathcart said on Twitter.

The lawsuit said NSO’s Pegasus software was designed to be remotely installed to hijack devices using the Android, iOS and BlackBerry operating systems.

The complaint said the attackers "reverse-engineered the WhatsApp app and developed a program to enable them to emulate legitimate WhatsApp network traffic in order to transmit malicious code" to take over the devices.

The suit calls on the court to order NSO Group to stop any such attacks and asks for unspecified damages.

NSO Group came to prominence in 2016 when researchers accused it of helping spy on an activist in the United Arab Emirates.

Its best-known product is Pegasus, a highly invasive tool that can reportedly switch on a target’s phone camera and microphone, and access data on it.

Wakanda free trade forever? Fictional nation removed from trade list
[ARYNEWS.TV] The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said it removed the fictional country of Wakanda from an online list of nations that have free trade agreements with the United States on Thursday.
Impeachment yesterday, Wakanda today?
The Kingdom of Wakanda is the home of Black Panther, the Marvel superhero, and is portrayed in comic books and the 2018 blockbuster movie as an isolated African nation with the most powerful technology on the planet.
Typical African nation, in fact.
"While we removed the Kingdom of Wakanda from our list of US free trade partners, our relationship will always be strong #WakandaForever," the USDA tweeted from its official account.
My mind just boggled.
The agency did not immediately respond to questions.
"Are you people crazy or just stoopid?"
"Ummm..."

A front man told The Washington Post that inclusion of the mythical African nation from the universe of Marvel superheroes was a mistake made as part of a test officials were running.
"Yeah! Yeah, dat's it. It wuz some kinda test. You caught it, so dat means youse passed!"
Francis Tseng, a New York-based software engineer who was looking for data on U.S. agricultural tariffs for a fellowship he is pursuing, first noticed the reference to Wakanda on the U.S. tariff list and called it out on Twitter.
If he was pursuing a fellowship from USDA, he just lost it.

#5  This kind of goof happens fairly often. Programmers put all kinds of weird "funny" data into systems for testing and then forget to take it all out before the go-live.

Back when I worked for DEC about 40 years ago there was a legendary incident where a customer got the error PPACB in his new operating system and called the help desk to say WTF? When looked up it turned out to be "pull plug and call Bob".

That wasn't supposed to make it into the release version, needless to say.

Ummm... Sure. Sounds good. However, as a 20-years veteran of the U.S. Army, I never once (nor at any time since) have considered the two to be the same thing.
Well, sure — in America. Pakistan is an alternate reality, as all here know.
