[SCMP] Work on China’s newest aircraft carrier has slowed as tensions with the United States and military reform have taken their toll on the programme's budget, military sources said. Example of what happens when you piss off your biggest money maker. US companies take note.
The assessment came just a day after Beijing confirmed it was building its second home-grown aircraft carrier - its third in total.
State-run Xinhua news agency said on its microblog on Sunday that work was under way on China's "new generation carrier", the Type 002. Its predecessor, the Type 001A, the first domestically built vessel of its kind, was launched in April 2017. Military experts expect it will be handed over to the Chinese navy by October 1 in time for the 70th anniversary of the people's republic.
China's first aircraft carrier, the Kuznetsov-class Liaoning, was commissioned in 2012 after it was bought from Ukraine and refitted in China.
The Xinhua report was the first official Chinese media confirmation of the Type 002's construction, a disclosure that means the vessel's keel is ready to be laid, according to a source close to the Chinese military.
The newest warship will be fitted with the world's most advanced aircraft launch system, an electromagnetic system known as EMALs, which is the same type used on the nuclear-powered USS Gerald Ford supercarrier. EMALs causes less wear and tear on planes and allows more aircraft to be launched in a shorter time. A technological and engineering challenge. Be interesting to see if they make it work.
Military insiders said work on the Type 002 had slowed because of budget cuts and the rising costs associated with the J-15, the beleaguered carrier-based fighter jet.
"China has so far still failed to develop a more advanced and powerful carrier-based fighter jet to match the Type 002 carrier," a naval source said. China has a history of producing crap fighters with crap engines. This trend is not improving for them.
The South China Morning Post reported earlier that several sources said Beijing was developing a new carrier-based fighter jet to replace the J-15, which has had a series of mechanical failures and crashes. All of the J-15s were grounded for three months after a fatal crash in 2016. A military investigation revealed that some data relating to the flight control system had been doctored. A repressive government covering up its failures!?!?! Say it isn't so!!!
"Another problem that slowed down construction of the Type 002 is the long-standing short lifespans of the J-15s' engines, even though the aircraft are now equipped with the more advanced and powerful WS-10H Taihang engines," an insider on the carrier projects said.
New turbine technology had extended the lifespan of the WS-10 engines from 800 flight hours to 1,500, but that was still just a fraction of the more than 4,000 flight hours that General Electric's F414 engines - used on the US' carrier-based F-18 Super Hornets ‐ could put in.
"The WS-10H is powerful and advanced, but its lifespan is much shorter than the American technology, meaning China needs more engines to support the operation of its J-15s. That's costly because each WS-10 engine costs millions of yuan," the insider said. The long and short of it is, China can't produce fighters and ships that can run as long as the US, and can't keep up the tempo the US can, and can't compete with the performance. On top of that their damage control on ships is almost completely lacking and they don't have the naval skills, which take a long time to develop and are very expensive to do so, that the US and Japan have.
The more I read about China's navy and air force the more I feel it would be more in our interests to fight them now, rather than give them another 30 years to work out the kinks and we have to fight on their terms.

Be assured that the incoming Donk House will do their best to make it more 'fair' by the same methodology of making funds scarce.

Oh yeah, war! Because that worked out so well for us in Iraq.
Why are we in conflict with China? Because we're assholes. Imagine a foreign power who insisted America must not be the dominant power in the Gulf of Mexico. Would we say that's bullshit?
How about a foreign power who insisted we must never interfere in Cuba, despite it being off our coast. Maybe understand now about the Taiwan thing?

Or perhaps China is fully intent on blocking sea trade in the South Sea. Or bully all its neighbors so it can get all the goods in their waters. Or steal all the tech and IP it can get. Or rob countries of their wealth in Africa and Asia.
The only asshole outside of China in this scenario is you, Herb.
[ABC] Three U.S. service members were killed and three others were wounded by an improvised explosive device in southern Afghanistan, according to the NATO-led training mission in that country.
The incident took place on Nov. 27, Resolute Support, the official name of the NATO mission, said in a statement. One American contractor was also wounded.
"The wounded service members and contractor were evacuated and are receiving medical care," Resolute Support said.
No other details about the deadly incident were available.
[Southern Poverty Law Center] Originally a putatively Muslim group, Nuwaubianism is best understood as a cult that promotes a bizarre and complicated "theology."
Nuwaubians refer to their belief system ‐ which mixes black supremacist ideas with worship of the Egyptians and their pyramids, a belief in UFOs and various conspiracies related to the Illuminati and the Bilderbergers, as "Nuwaubianism" ‐ not as theology, but as "factology, "Right Knowledge," or a slew of other names. The group’s founder and leader, Dwight York, took extreme advantage of its adherents, sexually abusing their children and conning the adults out of their possessions. In April 2004, he was sentenced to 135 years in prison for molesting children, among other crimes.

"The Caucasian has not been chosen to lead the world. They lack true emotions in their creation. We never intended them to be peaceful. They were bred to be killers, with low reproduction levels and a short life span. What you call Negroid was to live 1,000 years each and the other humans 120 years. But the warrior seed of Caucasians is only 60 years old. They were only created to fight other invading races, to protect the God race Negroids. But they went insane, lost control when they were left unattended. They were never to taste blood. They did, and their true nature came out. ... Because their reproduction levels were cut short, their sexual organs were made the smallest so that the female of their race will want to breed with Negroids to breed themselves out of existence after 6,000 years. It took 600 years to breed them, part man and part beast." Moor at the link

If the white man is so terrible why do so many people of color fall over each other to live alongside the white folk instead of setting up their own utopia to show how it is done?
[BBC] Benoît Quennedey was arrested on Sunday night over the "collection and delivery of information to a foreign power", they say.
He is being questioned by the domestic security agency, the DGSI.
His Paris home and the home of his parents near Dijon have been searched, reports say.
Mr Quennedey is a senior civil servant, working for the Senate's department of architecture, heritage and gardens. He is also president of the Franco-Korean Friendship Association (AAFC in French), which promotes closer ties with North Korea and supports the reunification of the divided Koreas.
[Independent] Extreme heatwaves will scorch the UK as rising sea levels swallow large expanses of the coastline within just a few decades, experts have warned.
In the first major analysis of the nation’s changing climate for nearly a decade, government and Met Office scientists concluded that summer temperatures could shoot up by 5.4C by 2070 if fossil fuel pollution is not slashed.
Winters will also be considerably hotter, with average temperatures increasing by up to 4.2C.
The scientists outlined a far more extreme version of Britain’s climate in which this year's weeks-long heatwave becomes the norm while winter rainfall increases by more than a third.
Flooding will also be a major issue as sea levels around the country rise, and coastal communities will have to adapt rapidly or abandon homes to the rising tides.
Sea levels affecting London could rise by up to 1.15 metres by 2100 if climate-warming emissions continue to climb.
Even if emissions are cut in line with the Paris climate agreement to curb temperature rises to well below 2C above pre-industrial levels, sea levels could still be up to 70cm higher in the capital by 2100.

I'm confused. It used to be 'climate change'. Lately, all I hear about is 'global warming'.
Did somebody figure out that greenhouse gas shouldn't result in cooling? Particulates help cooling, but many countries cleaned up their air at the end of the twentieth century, encouraging warming, but only compared to the human-caused cooling. Except for volcanoes. Oh, and forest fires. Sooo confused.

I remember needing a jacket during the day in August when visiting Stratford-upon-Avon, back in the mid-‘80s. An extra 5C would not at all go amiss over there.

Greenhouse gas theory says that the same light let in, can't get it. That's pure magic, a chromatic maxwell's demon.
If it insulates at all, it will cool the earth, since the sun is on fire and the earth isn't.
[American Thinker] China has been winning an economic war with America for decades. Unfair currency maneuvers, tariffs, stealing of technology/intellectual property, and tariff-like burdens have been China’s war machine against America for a long time. Such economic victories over America have enabled them to build-up their military might through their unfair accumulation of wealth.
Europe has taken advantage of America’s generosity in funding too much of NATO expenses, too much of UN expenses, and our military nuclear power stick against Russia. Enough is enough! France’s own people finally are recognizing the folly of socialism’s focus of economic power on the elite political leadership.
Europe disrespects and won’t fully support our bold hardline against Iran’s overt hatred of America and Western values. They also cheat about backing sanctions against N. Korea. They try to hide behind some vague anti- nationalist "globalist patriotism", which is really at its core, their economic advantage-seeking. European political leaders seem blind with denial about Iranian religious fascism, Chinese communist economic aggression, and the social political and economic dangers involved with immigration as an economic threat to Western Democracies.
The so called "Caravan" from Central America is in essence a left-wing liberal, neo-Marxist, and neo-socialist economic political invading army. Socialist "Caravan" organizers hide behind naïve, innocent asylum-seekers, and women and children, in a way analogous to Saddam Hussein’s use of innocent civilians as human shields before his fall from power in Iraq. Duped migrant political foot-soldiers carry flags of their countries like an invading collective economic army. They stir empathy among good-hearted Americans, but throw rocks, punches, insults and break the law when they don’t get their way. It is highly suspicious as to who supports them economically. Demonstrably, gangs, human traffickers, political operatives, terrorists, and criminals hide among innocent, naïve, or complicit migrants.
Wake up America! Especially liberal Democrat politicians. Currently, World War III involves Marxist, fascist, socialist ideologies versus Western political capitalist ideologies and values. Communist China uses bad economic acquisitive trade deals, not bullets, missiles, and overt military action, yet! The Central American economic migrant army is yet another form of economic warfare unless America and other Western democracies implement effective immigration policies that ensure national sovereignty.
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐A turkey recently pardoned by President Trump was found dead after claiming to have dirt on the Clintons, sources at the FBI confirmed Monday.
The official cause of death was suicide, though the bullet wounds were in the back of the turkey's head and the bird lacked opposable thumbs with which to operate a firearm.
The turkey had been publicly pardoned for the crime of being delicious and set free by Trump in a popular White House Thanksgiving tradition. Shortly after being released, the turkey confirmed its possession of "credible" information that would lead to the indictment of Hillary Clinton, posting on the bird's social media account that it was a good thing Trump had pardoned the turkey, so the world could find the truth out about the Clintons.
Metro police discovered the turkey's body the next morning, shot twice in the back of the head and stabbed in the back. There was a nearby handwritten note confirming that the death was "not fowl play."

In the 90s I worked for a company that created maps that would be used for auto-navigation. We put cars on every street mapping things as accurately as possible. In a few cases we had marks on those maps that said "guy flashed gun, unsafe to go back for addreses" and things like that as the locals though our cars were law enforcement or something.
At the same time we had an icon that denoted a rich area. The icon was invisible but would prevent the software from navigating folks through those areas because the rich folks don't want to be bothered. I naively suggested why not use that icon to keep the system from routing folks through the really bad areas as well. The world was less PC then but my suggestion of using the invisible icon to protect customers was still quietly called racist and ignored.
Lucky smart phones took over before anyone was routed into Compton and killed because drivers will go wherever the thing tells them to go.

[Daily Caller] Police arrested 27 members of a North Carolina church for surrounding an Immigration and Customs Enforcement van and refusing to move after immigration officers arrested an illegal immigrant.
Members of CityWell United Methodist Church in Durham accompanied illegal immigrant Samuel Oliver-Bruno, whom they protected from deportation for 11 months, to an appointment to be fingerprinted at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Morrisville, North Carolina. The group initially prayed for Oliver-Bruno and sang hymns in the parking lot, but turned frantic when they witnessed immigration officers arrest him. They surrounded the van into which officers placed Oliver-Bruno, refused to move after being told to disperse, and were arrested.
"We told the police chief, ’We understand this is your job, but we need you to understand that as a matter of conviction we cannot move, and you will have to arrest us,'" Pastor Cleve May told The Washington Post.
Congregants initiated a nearly 3-hour standoff with ICE officers to block Oliver-Bruno’s arrest. Officers attempted to disperse the crowd, explaining to the congregants that according to U.S. law, Oliver-Bruno had to be deported.
"Listen up!" an assistant field officer shouted to the crowd. "The only way this is going to go down is this way: He’s been ordered removed from the United States. That’s it. I know the law, okay? So what we’re going to do now ‐ you’ve got to disperse."
The congregants refused to move from the van, however, and instead continued chanting "Shame" at ICE officers and sang hymns.
The agent eventually stepped away from the crowd while Oliver-Bruno and two other officers remained in the van. Police arrived and arrested 27 of the church congregants and booked them in Wake County Detention Center with Oliver-Bruno.

[Telegraph] Baroness Trumpington, a Bletchley Park code-breaker famed for flicking two fingers up at a fellow Tory peer, has died at the age of 96, her son has said.
Tributes came from across the political spectrum after Adam Barker announced that the former Conservative minister died on Monday afternoon.
Lady Trumpington only bowed out from the House of Lords, where she was celebrated as one of Parliament's most colourful characters, last year.
International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt celebrated her as a "trailblazer, heroine and an utter joy".
Mr Barker said she had "a bloody good innings", as he tweeted: "My mother passed away this afternoon in her sleep."
[PJ] In yet another shocking failure in a long line of interfaith outreach by Western governments since 9/11, The Daily Telegraph reports today that the American-born Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has been recently promoting a program associated with the notorious Al-Manaar mosque not far from Kensington Palace. The mosque has produced as many as nineteen terrorists -- including "Jihadi John" and his Islamic State "Beatles" who tortured and beheaded Western captives in Syria.
The duchess has helped raise more than $250,000 for the Hubb Community Kitchen operated out of the mosque by promoting a cookbook that royal press agents have billed as celebrating "the power of cooking to bring communities together":

[The Hill] Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) blasted former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka after he called her "an insult to intelligent ... humans everywhere."
Ocasio-Cortez drew backlash, mainly from some allies of President Trump, after comparing Central American migrants seeking asylum to Jews fleeing Nazi Germany.
"You were forced out of the Trump Admin for saying white supremacists were 'not the problem' days before Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville killed 3 people," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted at Gorka. "Pretty sure we’re on the right side of history if you’re my opposition."
"This is not about atrocity. It’s about how we get there," she added.

[The Hill] Insurers that participate in Medicare’s prescription drug program would be able to exclude certain drugs if prices rise faster than inflation as part of a new proposal from the Trump administration.
The proposal, announced Monday, is aimed at lowering prescription drug costs for seniors by giving Medicare plans leverage in price negotiations.
Currently, private Medicare health plans are required to cover all or "substantially all" drug in six "protected" classes, such as HIV treatments, antidepressants and cancer drugs, regardless of cost.
This gives pharmaceutical companies little incentive to make the drugs affordable, administration officials said.
"The lack of any ability for Part D plans to manage drugs in the protected classes has allowed the pharmaceutical industry to command high prices on protected class drugs in Part D, without patients getting a good deal," Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma said in a statement.
Under the proposal, health plans would be allowed to exclude protected drugs with price increases that are greater than inflation, as well as certain new drug formulations that are not a "significant innovation" over the original product.
The proposal could save taxpayers $692 million over a decade, officials said.
[Breitbart] Far more Hispanic babies have been aborted in the United States than there are migrants reported to be in the caravan en route through Mexico to the U.S. border.
A report released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows, in 2015, 72,056 Hispanic women ‐ or 17.5 percent of all women who reported abortions ‐ had abortions in the 31 states that reported abortion statistics, as well as in the District of Columbia.
According to the New York Times, the number of migrants in the caravan "could reach more than 10,000," officials estimate, revealing the number of Hispanic babies aborted in the United States to have outnumbered the estimated number of migrants by about seven to one.
The CDC report, titled "Abortion Surveillance ‐ United States, 2015," finds that Hispanic women had a higher rate of abortion in 2015 than non-Hispanic white women.
"In this report, abortion rates and ratios remained 1.5 and 1.3 times higher for Hispanic compared with non-Hispanic white women," reported the CDC.
Additionally, more Hispanic babies were aborted in New York City alone in 2015 than the number of migrants reported to be in the caravan.
The New York State Department of Health reports that, in 2015, 17,391 Hispanic babies were aborted in New York City.
[Jpost] The US re-imposed sanctions on Iranian banks, including Bank Melli, on November 5.due to their role in illicit terrorist activities and support for the country's nuclear and rocket programs.
The global giant German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom pulled the plug on phone and internet service for Iran’s Bank Melli due to US sanction pressure.
On Friday, the US embassy in Berlin tweeted that Deutsche Telekom "cuts off phone and internet to Iran’s Bank Melli, which funnels terrorist groups working for the Iranian regime." The embassy added that "sanctions are working" and "thank you Deutsche Telekom."
The embassy’s tweet linked to a Thursday story in the German business daily Handelsblatt that said the communication company told the Hamburg-based Bank Melli: "We have to assume that you can no longer make any payments" for Telekom business.
The US reimposed sanctions on Iranian banks, including Bank Melli, on November 5 due to their role in illicit terrorist activities and support for the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
According to Handelsblatt, Bank Melli Hamburg managing director Helmut Gottlieb said the loss of Deutsche Telekom service has caused the bank’s operation to be "almost paralyzed."
The Handelsbatt, whose Friday editorial lashed out at the US pressure on Germany companies on Friday, wrote in its news article that "although the EU and the federal government reject the US sanctions against Iran, German firms are complying with these sanctions." The paper added that Telekom said it had decided to "end export businesses with Iranian companies."
Iranian regime-controlled press outlets wrote over the weekend that the Public Relations Department of Bank Melli said the Handelsblatt report is "fundamentally false" and that Deutsche Telekom has "not disconnected" its internet and telephone service. The Jerusalem Post reported that Iran frequently denies reports that have been confirmed by multiple Western sources, as part of its efforts to insulate its struggling economy from further financial setbacks.
US ambassador Richard Grenell, who has worked to end German trade with Iran because of Tehran’s support for terrorism and its drive to achieve nuclear weapons capability, said that the US is "very satisfied that German companies have decided to comply with US sanctions." Grenell is widely considered the most successful ambassador, since he has managed to wean European companies off business with the regime.
The US State Department classifies Iran as the top international state-sponsor of terrorism. Bank Melli has a long history of advancing Iran’s illicit ballistic, nuclear, and terrorism programs, according to the US Treasury Department. "Bank Melli has facilitated numerous purchases of sensitive materials for Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. In doing so, Bank Melli has provided a range of financial services on behalf of Iran’s nuclear and missile industries, including opening letters of credit and maintaining accounts," wrote the department in 2007.
According to the Handelsblatt, many German companies report on a weekly basis to the US embassy to inform the US government that they are in compliance with sanctions against Iran.
The German government owns 14.5% of Deutsche Telekom. The communications company has a customer base in the US with its T-Mobile business.
On Sunday, Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan urged Germany during his keynote address at Frankfurt’s Deutscher Israelkongress to join US sanctions against Iran because the mullah regime is an "exporter of terror."
In October, President Reuven Rivlin requested Chancellor Angela Merkel ...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems .. adhere to US sanctions. However, some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go... Merkel rebuffed Israel’s request to sanction Iran.
[KhaamaPress] The commander of the public uprising forces Alipur alias commander Shamsher has been released from the custody of the Afghan intelligence.
The Office of the Second Vice President in a statement confirmed that commander Alipur has been released from the custody of the National Directorate of Intelligence.
Commander Alipur was detained by the National Directorate of Security forces from Qala Qazi area of the city on Sunday morning.
The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), earlier had confirmed the arrest of a local uprising commander Alipur alia commander Shamsher in Kabul.
According to a statement released by NDS earlier this afternoon, commander Alipur was arrested from Qala Qazi area of the city on Sunday.
The statement further added that commander Alipur has been arrested on charges of illegal armed activities, extortion, and attacks on Afghan security forces.
[ToloNews] Supporters of local commander Alipoor, also known as Commander Shamsheer, who was arrested on Sunday, have again taken to the streets in Kabul on Monday after a day of protest action on Sunday.
By early Monday morning a few hundred people had already gathered on the streets, calling for the release of Alipoor, who was arrested by the National Directorate of Security (NDS).
Alipoor is a local commander in the central provinces, who according to protesters, has been fighting the Taliban in recent weeks in at least three provinces.
On Sunday afternoon, the Dasht-e-Barchi protest, in Kabul city, turned violent when demonstrators started stoning police. Police in turn fired into the air to disperse the crowd but armed protesters reportedly returned fire.
On Monday, Alipoor’s supporters came together in Pul-e-Sokhta area in PD6 in Kabul and called for his immediate release.
The angry protesters said Alipoor has not been fighting government forces, but had been fending off the Taliban in parts of Maidan Wardak, Ghor and Daikundi provinces - under the structure of the local uprising forces.
The protesters also said they will not end their protest until government releases Alipoor.
“We want to know why Alipoor has been arrested,” one protester said.
“We will not stop our protest if Alipoor is not freed,” another protester said.
“He has not committed any crime, he was just fighting Taliban,” another protester said.
Kabul police chief Sayed Mohammad Roshandel told TOLOnews on Monday that protesters had set fire to police check posts in the area and were clashing with police forces.
Roshandel said a number of protesters had been armed and that over 20 security force members were wounded during apparent shooting incidents.
According to Roshandel, Alipoor is an illegal armed commander and was arrested on the orders of the Attorney General’s Office.
“He has been arrested on the orders of the Attorney General’s Office. He will be released after the investigations if he is proven innocent,” said Roshandel.
By late Sunday afternoon, protesters were prevented from marching to the city center by security forces, who closed off roads in the Pul-e-Sokhta area.
By 6pm, protesters were still in the area and shooting in Dasht-e-Barchi was still heard.
A number of security forces were also positioned in Dehmazang area, to prevent protesters from breaking through the security belt in western Kabul and getting through to the Presidential Palace.
Many roads leading from the western part of Kabul towards the city center have been closed since Sunday.
After the Kabul demonstration started, protesters also took to the streets in Bamiyan and in Mazar-e-Sharif, in Balkh province. They were also protesting against Alipoor’s arrest.
By early Monday, dozens of protesters were also marching through the city of Mazar for the second day.
[KhaamaPress] The Wahdat Islami party has reacted to the arrest of a local uprising commander Alipur alias commander Shamsher in Kabul.
Wahdat Islami party in a statement has said the party condemns the arrest of the local uprising forces commander of Midan Wardak commander Alipur, calling it a provocative and irresponsible move.
The statement further added that the party demands unconditional release of the commander from the custody of the security forces.
[KhaamaPress] The coalition forces have rejected refuted rumors suggesting that the U.S. forces were involved in the arrest of the uprising commander Alipur in Kabul.
A spokesman for the U.S. military in Afghanistan Colonel David Butler has said neither U.S. Forces nor Resolute Support had anything to do with the arrest Alipur.
Col. Butler further added that National Directorate of Security will also confirm this information.
This comes as rumors started to surface following the arrest of commander Alipur suggesting that the U.S. forces were involved in his arrest.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Arab Emirates on Monday pardoned a British academic jugged Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! for life on spying charges, granting his family's request for clemency minutes after showing a video of him confessing to being a member of Britannia's intelligence agency MI6.
The UAE president issued a pardon as part of the country's National Day, effective immediately, according to a statement carried by state news agency WAM.
At a news conference on Monday in Abu Dhabi, Emirati officials showed the video of Mathew Hedges, a 31-year-old doctorate student in Middle Eastern studies at Durham University.
The video, which Emirati officials did not allow journalists to record, shows Hedges describing himself as a captain in MI-6 during what appears to be a court hearing in the Gulf Arab country.
Another clip appears to show Hedges speaking to someone in an office and saying: "It helps the research to go in in an easy way."
Then, Hedges is seen snapping his fingers and adds: "Then it becomes MI-6."
The video also showed Hedges saying he was looking into what military systems the UAE was buying.
Last Wednesday, a UAE Attorney General Hamad Al Shamsi said that "during questioning, Mr Hedges admitted to the claims against him, which were identical to evidence and information gained from his own electronic devices and investigations conducted by the UAE’s security agencies."

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gazoo residents have apparently started "branding Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", with slurs", accusing the group of "selling out" the enclave in return for aid from Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... and more collaboration with Israel, a newspaper column published this week suggests.
Muhammad Shehada, a writer and activist from the Gazoo Strip who writes for Haaretz, published a column this week that suggested Gazooks were angry at Hamas after the group reached a "limited set of understandings" with Israel earlier this month.
"’They sold us out!’ Gazooks began to whisper," according to the columnist. The deal with Israel included keeping Paleostinian protesters hundreds of meters away from the separation fence with Israel. The site is where demonstrators weekly protested by tire-burning and firing incendiary kite-flying at Israeli farms and assets -- an act Hamas has previously defended the Paleostinian right in doing so.
On social media, Gazooks used Arabic hashtags equivalents to #sell-outs, at which they wrote messages like: "[Suddenly] burning tires have become ’unhealthy’ and [approaching] the electronic fence is suicide! #sell-outs."
In return for this calm, the writer notes that Israel restored the status quo ante, as well as other "limited" "benefits."
This included the expansion of the Gazoo fishing zone for a few a months, bringing back the heavily-restricted entry of relief and commercial vessels into the enclave, following a full-on closure. And a tentative supply of Qatari fuel and cash to pay Hamas’ babus government employees.
"Basically, a return to square one" the writer said. Gazooks unleashed some of their anger during a visit by Qatari ambassador earlier in November. Not only his convoy was hurled with stones, but also he was met with angry cries such as "collaborator."

[An Nahar] Lebanese Forces A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb... leader Samir Geagea ... Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005 ... has called on President Michel Aoun ...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory... ... and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too. to form a government without Hizbullah should the party continue refusing to hand the PM-designate the names of its three Shiite ministers.
"Any political party has the right to have a viewpoint about the formation process, but that should not be more than a mere viewpoint. President Aoun and PM-designate Hariri have the right to endorse or reject this viewpoint. The party concerned can also grant or withhold its confidence from the formed government. This is the constitution and this is democracy," Geagea said in an interview with the Central News Agency.
"But no party can say, ’You either do what we want or there won’t be a government,’ and this is what Hizbullah is doing today," the LF leader added.
Warning that the economic and social situations "cannot withstand further confusion," Geagea said Aoun and Hariri "must take a decision" in light of their "constitutional responsibility."
"They must tell Hizbullah, ’We want you in the government, give us the names of your ministers, and you have the right to voice your opinion on the issue of representing the independent Sunnis with a minister’... or else they should form a de facto government should the party refuse to hand the names," Geagea added.
The new government was on the verge of formation on October 29 after the Lebanese Forces accepted the portfolios that were assigned to it but a last-minute hurdle over the representation of pro-Hizbullah Sunni MPs surfaced.
Hizbullah has insisted that the six Sunni MPs should be given a seat in the government, refraining from providing Hariri with the names of its three Shiite ministers in a bid to press him.
Hariri has rejected the demand, announcing that he’d rather step down than give the aforementioned politicians a seat from his own share in the government.

[An Nahar] A 10-week-old truce deal in northern Syria looked as precarious as ever Monday after an alleged chemical attack, which has already drawn retaliatory raids despite its origins being unclear.
The exact circumstances of the purported attack on three districts of the government-held city of Aleppo Saturday are murky and bitterly disputed.
In little doubt, however, is the strain the incident will put on an already fragile agreement reached in mid-September to fend off a fully-fledged assault on Idlib.
WHAT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY?
Syrian state media accused "terrorists" of carrying out a "toxic gas" attack in Aleppo late Saturday, using a term that it uses to mean both rebels and jihadists.
State news agency SANA said 107 people were hospitalized with breathing difficulties, after what health official Ziad Hajj Taha said it was a "probable" chlorine attack.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the number of people affected slightly lower at 94, and said over half had been discharged by the next morning.
The Britannia-based monitor, which says it gathers its information from people inside Syria, said its sources reported "the smell of chlorine".
An AFP news hound saw dozens of civilians carried or helped into a hospital, appearing to be dizzy and breathing with difficulty. Staff gave them oxygen masks.
The regime has been blamed for the most deadly chemical weapon attacks in Syria's seven-year war, but official media has recently accused fighters in Idlib of planning a chemical attack.

[PJMEDIA] Los Angeles police are investigating an incident Friday night as a potential hate crime after a Somali man, 32-year-old Mohamed Mohamed Abdi, attempted to run down worshipers standing outside a Hancock Park synagogue.
Security video from Friday night shows the driver making a hard U-turn.
CBSLA interviewed one of the victims, who says he and his friend were the target.
"We both scrambled in different directions so he slammed on his brakes and missed us thank God," the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
A second security video shows the driver reversing and trying to hit them again.
"He clearly was going at us and it was even more clear on round two," said the victim.
It happened on La Brea in Hancock Park, on a corner with a couple synagogues and on the Sabbath where many walk around in traditional attire.
"Why he chose us? Probably because of the yarmulkes on our heads," the victim said.
Abdi is currently being held on $55,000 bail.
This incident occurred less than a month after the horrific Pittsburgh synagogue attack that left 11 dead.
A native of Mogadishu in Somalia, Abdi is a U.S. citizen who emigrated to the Seattle area several years ago, Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Horace Frank said. He rented a car and drove to Los Angeles sometime last week, though it was not clear if he knew anyone in the area or why he came to the city.
Investigators did not say if Abdi specifically targeted Congregation Bais Yehuda.
Frank said Abdi’s chosen method of attack ‐ driving toward a crowd of pedestrians ‐ and the fact that he was carrying a knife were "very concerning." He noted that Abdi’s actions mirror those of other terror attacks in recent years, where so-called lone wolf assailants have used a rented vehicle rather than a firearm or bomb to cause carnage in open spaces.

[PRESSTV] Commander of the Israeli military’s 300th Infantry Brigade has called on the Tel Aviv regime to resort to the policy of "assassinations," arguing that the liquidation of the Secretary General of Hezbollah will deal a fatal blow to the Lebanese resistance movement.
Colonel Roy Levy, in an article published in the Hebrew-language Ma'arakhot magazine, which is affiliated to the Israeli army, wrote that "assassinations" must be carried out, and that His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb... should be killed by commando forces backed by the air force, the Hebrew-language Walla news website reported.
"His personality and military experience have turned him into a center of gravity. All of his organization - from senior commanders to the low-ranking soldiers - and thus the fighting spirit of the enemy will be harmed once he is targeted," Levy wrote.
He then recommended Israeli military operations deep inside Leb, asserting that the offensives would yield many benefits despite the risks associated with them.
The Israeli military commander also called for "a proper positioning of combat commando units with the aim of subjugating the enemy."
"Should we make a similar decision and kill the leaders of enemy organizations, for example, Nasrallah? The answer is not easy.
"But the idea of harming the enemy's fighting spirit by damaging its property must be examined. We must adopt a policy not anchored in force, but in ruse instead. The deep activity of commandos in a way that surprises the enemy and strikes its equipment will be an important means of damaging its fighting morale, and will lead to its defeat," Levy commented.
On November 28, 2017, the Israeli military's chief front man said Nasrallah would be a target for liquidation in any war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Ronen Manelis added that the Israeli military is conducting psychological and media warfare against Hezbollah.
"One of the things we talk about is the transition from traditional media consumption to social media," Manelis said, adding, "We are also active in this theater, and it is an operational theater in every respect. Just in the past few weeks, we’ve taken a great many actions that caused consternation on the other side."
"There won’t be a clear victory picture in the text war, though it’s clear that Nasrallah is a target," he added.

[An Nahar] Swiss voters on Sunday appeared set to reject a proposed constitutional amendment to preserve cow horns while approving a law that gives insurance companies broad leeway to spy on suspected welfare cheats.
The third measure on the ballot, a rightwing proposal that would have given Swiss judges supremacy over world courts, was also headed for defeat, according to provisional results released by the GFS Bern polling and research firm.
The poll is part of Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... 's famous direct democracy system, in which voters cast ballots on national issues four times a year.
The cow horn initiative was launched by livestock farmer Armin Capaul, who captured widespread media attention after he secured the more than 100,000 signatures needed to force a vote in an upstart campaign that began with few resources and no political support.
The proposal did not call for a ban on dehorning but sought a constitutional amendment that would have created incentives for farmers to let horns grow.
Capaul said his campaign was inspired by conversations with his herd in him home of Perrefitte, a municipality in the heart of the Jura mountain range.
Environmental and animal rights groups ultimately joined Capaul's effort but it was opposed by the government, which argued farmers had to remain free to manage their livestock as they saw fit.
Provisional results from GFS Bern said the proposal was likely to be rejected, with 54 percent voting against.
- INSURANCE COMPANY SPIES -
Voters were, however, poised to approve a measure in which the government sought consent for legal revisions passed in March that outline the type surveillance insurance companies can use to expose potential fraudsters.
Insurers in the wealthy Alpine nation had long spied on customers they suspected of making false claims, but that came to a stop following a 2016 ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, which said unregulated spying amounted to a violation of privacy.
The government insists that surveillance is necessary to curb insurance fraud and in turn keep costs low for all.
Sixty-seven percent of voters supported the revised law, according to GFS Bern's provisional results.
"What the Swiss wanted to show was that the social safety net is important, but that (for it to work) we all have to be absolutely responsible," Benjamin Roduit of the centre-right Christian Democratic Party told public broadcaster RTS.
Critics argued that the measures were hastily written under pressure from the insurance company lobby and do not explicitly prohibit serious, unjustified invasions of privacy.
Legal analysts have noted that the law does not prohibit insurers, or the detectives they hire, from recording or filming someone who is on their private balcony or in their garden, provided those areas are visible from a public space.
- SUPREME LAW -
Voters also looked set to overwhelmingly reject the initiative dubbed "Swiss Law First," which called for domestic law to be placed above international law.
The rightwing, anti-migrant Swiss People's Party (SVP) sought to portray the measure as essential for safeguarding national illusory sovereignty.
But the government and business groups were staunchly opposed, warning that hundreds of trade deals vital to the Swiss economy as well as the country's reputation would have been threatened by a formal repudiation of international courts.
"It is a huge defeat," SVP vice president Celine Amaudruz told RTS after just 33 percent of voters supported the proposal, according to provisional results.

[An Nahar] The United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... ' Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... envoy is expected in Riyadh on Monday as part of efforts to convene December peace talks between Houthis and the Saudi-backed government.
Martin Griffiths' visit comes as fighting eased around the rebel-held port city of Hodeida, a vital lifeline for imports and aid which has been the target of a fierce Saudi-backed government offensive.
Under heavy international pressure, the Yemeni government and a Saudi-led military coalition have largely suspended a five-month offensive against the Red Sea city.
Fighting had intensified in early November as coalition-backed loyalist forces attempted to enter Hodeida, but calm returned after Griffiths arrived in Yemen on Wednesday.
The UN said the envoy, who also visited Hodeida last week to assess the humanitarian situation, is due to hold talks with Yemen's internationally recognised government in Riyadh on Monday.
While the loyalist advance on Hodeida has largely stalled, minor festivities have continued.
Military officials quoted by the state-run Saba news agency on Sunday evening said the loyalists foiled a Huthi "infiltration attempt" into a camp in Hays province, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) south of Hodeida.
The rebels said they had detonated an bomb near the eastern entrance of Hodeida, "destroying a (pro-government) military vehicle... killing and wounding soldiers inside", Huthi-run al-Masirah reported on Monday.
Loyalists did not confirm the attack.
But pro-government military officials told AFP Monday that pro-government forces' operations in the east and south of the Red Sea city had been suspended.
According to UN figures, nearly 10,000 people have been killed since the coalition joined the conflict in 2015 to back up the government after rebels ousted it from swathes of Yemen including Sanaa.
The intervention has triggered what the UN calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
Rights groups fear the actual corpse count far exceeds UN estimates.

[FOXNEWS] NASA announced that its Mars InSight lander landed successfully on the surface of the Red Planet, ending a journey that lasted six months and more than 300 million miles.
The InSight lander entered Mars' atmosphere just shortly after 2:40 p.m. EST on Monday and touched the surface at approximately 2:54 p.m. EST. The last part of the journey was the most harrowing, with NASA calling it "seven minutes of terror" due to the agency's inability to control the landing of the spacecraft, which cost $828 million. The anxious final moments of the lander's journey ended when a NASA official declared "touchdown confirmed!" sparking scenes of celebration at mission control in the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

Maine Independent Senator Angus King said on CBS’s "Face the Nation" on Sunday that a recent statement by Trump in support of Mohammed "gives a pass to dictators around the world."
In that statement, Trump sought to argue that the US had economic and national security interests in supporting Saudi leadership despite the widespread belief that Mohammed ordered the killing of dissident Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in the Ottoman Turkish city of Istanbul on October 2.
"Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan sought to obtain Senator King’s opinion on whether a decision "to trade off between US national security interests and human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... concerns when it comes to Saudi Arabia" was easy.

[AlAhram] Italian police say they have detained five Egyptians accused of smuggling a boatload of 264 migrants colonists from Libya to Sicily.
The overloaded fishing boat pulled into the Ragusa port Saturday, its third day at sea, and the migrants colonists disembarked and were registered.
Police said Monday that the migrants colonists, most of them from Eritrea ...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age... , identified the five Egyptian crew who charged them 1,500 euros apiece for the passage.
While most migrants colonists are rescued at sea before reaching Italia, some do occasionally make it if their original boat is sturdy enough.
Overall, migrant crossings to Italia began decreasing in 2017, after Italia's previous government negotiated deals with Libyan leaders and militias. The numbers have dropped further after the current government cracked down on humanitarian groups operating rescue missions in the Mediterranean.

[AnNahar] Ottoman Turkish police on Monday were searching the villa of a Saudi citizen in a northwestern province for the remains of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The officers began searching a two-story building in Termal district in Yalova with the help of sniffer dogs and drones before the investigation widened to the adjacent villa, state news agency Anadolu said.
Khashoggi, a contributor for The Washington Post, was killed by Saudi officials on October 2 during a visit to the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul for paperwork before his wedding.
The first villa to be searched is owned by a Saudi man whom the Istanbul prosecutor said had spoken to one of the murder suspects on October 1.
"It is believed that what was discussed was how to destroy or hide journalist Jamal Khashoggi's body after his dismemberment during this conversation," the prosecutor said in a statement.
The prosecutor added this information was the reason given to search the building.
Crime scene Sherlocks were inspecting a well in the first villa's garden in Samanli village, Anadolu earlier said, while images showed fire trucks at the scene.
Ottoman Turkish prosecutors say Khashoggi was strangled before he was dismembered.
His body has not been found and his death has triggered widespread international criticism of Riyadh. There have been reports in pro-government media that the journalist's remains could have been dissolved in acid.
The searches on Monday came more than two weeks after Sabah daily reported that samples taken from the consulate drains showed traces of acid.
Ottoman Turkish authorities say a team of 15 Saudi officials were sent to kill Khashoggi, who was 59, but Riyadh insists the liquidation team conducted a rogue operation.
Anadolu said the Saudi who owned the villa in question is a businessman who was not in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... during multiple phone calls with the suspects.
There have been previous inspections of the Saudi consulate and the consul-general's residence in Istanbul as well as a forest in the city.

[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian driver rubbed out after hitting servicemen with his vehicle near the Karmei Tzur settlement.
Three Israeli soldiers were maimed when a Paleostinian man rammed his car into them along a central West Bank highway in a suspected deliberate attack Monday, officials said.
The driver of the vehicle was rubbed out by another soldier.
One of the soldiers sustained moderate wounds to his arms and legs, while the other two were lightly injured, with scrapes and bruises, medics said.
They received medical treatment at the scene and were taken to hospitals in Jerusalem for additional treatment, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service.
The three servicemen were performing construction work along the side of the road when they were hit by the car as it traveled down the Route 60 highway near the Karmei Tzur settlement, south of the Gush Etzion Junction, the army said.
According to the military, another member of the patrol shot up the driver, killing him.
The Route 60 highway has been the site of many terror attacks in recent years, as it is regularly frequented by both Israelis and Paleostinians.
The driver, identified by the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy Society as Ramzi Abu Yabes from the Dheisheh Refugee Camp, died at the scene after being shot by an IDF reservist on duty.
According to Paleostinian Maan News Agency, Yabes was on his way to work as a nurse at the Arab Rehabilitation Association in Bethlehem along with his wife, Manal, who was also injured.
[IsraelTimes] Police say suspects violated Oslo-era law banning Paleostinian Authority from operating inside Israel; Top Ramallah official detained for apparently similar reasons over weekend.
Israeli police tossed in the calaboose ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... 32 East Jerusalem residents overnight Sunday on suspicion that they had illegally enlisted in the Paleostinian Authority’s security forces.
According to a police statement, the suspects were Israeli residents and some were receiving social benefits from the state while also serving in the PA’s armed forces.
The statement said the activities were illegal under the 1994 Gazoo-Jericho agreement, a follow-up treaty to the Oslo Accords.
The arrests came at the end of a covert investigation into the Paleostinian Authority’s operations inside Israel, the statement said.
During searches of the suspects’ homes, police said officers uncovered tens of thousands of shekels in cash, weapons, ammunition, uniforms and various PA security forces documents.
Police said the suspects were engaged in activities that "directly affect the personal safety of Israeli Arabs."
The suspects were taken for questioning and were expected to be brought before a judge for a remand hearing later on Monday.
The arrest raid came a day after police arrested the Paleostinian Authority governor of Jerusalem for the second time in as many months, apparently due to a PA investigation into an East Jerusalem land sale.
Israel, which annexed East Jerusalem in a move not recognized internationally, almost entirely does not allow the PA to operate within Jerusalem.
[Ynet] The IDF forces tossed in the clink ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... overnight Monday 15 suspected Lions of Islam in the West Bank.

[An Nahar] A government reshuffle Monday in Syria renewed almost a third of the cabinet, including the ministers of interior and of public works, the official SANA news agency reported.
The reshuffle, which does not include any major surprises, was announced in a decree signed by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Terror of Aleppo ... One of the most significant changes is the replacement of Mohammed al-Shaar, who had held the position since 2011, by Mohammed Khaled al-Rahmoun as interior minister.
He was the head of the Political Security Directorate, one of Syria's intelligence agencies. The U.S. Treasury placed him on a sanctions list last year.
The portfolio of public works and housing, whose importance has grown as Syria increasingly shifts its focus from war to reconstruction, also changed hands.
The new minister is Suhail Abdel Latif, who replaces Hussein Arnus.
The ministries of tourism, education, higher education, communications, trade and water resources also changed hands.
The minister of national reconciliation Ali Haidar will head up a new body called the National Reconciliation Authority.

[DAILYCALLER] The case that can reaffirm Congress’ rightful role is R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which the Supreme Court is considering in its upcoming conference on Nov. 30.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a clearer case of unelected officials replacing "sex" with "gender identity." Here, appointed members of the EEOC took it upon themselves to rewrite the law to bring charges against a small funeral home in Michigan that has been family-owned since 1910. Even more shockingly, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit followed suit, not only deepening the split among circuit courts, but also usurping the role of Congress in the process.
So instead of focusing all his attention on supporting grieving families, the funeral home’s owner, Tom Rost, has been forced to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court. Tom just wants to minister to families mourning the loss of a loved one. But the EEOC has elevated its political goals above the interests of the grieving people Tom serves.
Here’s what led Tom and his family to this place: In 2007, his funeral home hired a male employee. Like all of Tom’s employees, the man agreed up front to the company’s sex-specific dress code policy. Tom’s priority is for families to focus on their loss and their grief. Its policies are crafted to emphasize professionalism and provide as few distractions as possible.
In 2013, however, the employee notified Tom that he would no longer comply with the dress code, designed to best serve the needs of grieving families. Soon, he would be dressing as woman during work hours, including those that involved personal interaction with the bereaved.
This left Tom with a choice to make: Either he could agree to let his male employee dress as a woman during work hours, not just breaking the dress code, but undermining why the dress code exists ‐ which is to assist grieving families in focusing on the healing process ‐ or he could part ways with an employee who would no longer abide by the dress code.
Tom made the best decision he could, given the circumstances. He offered a severance package, seeking to do right by his now-former employee. The law should have protected his right to do so, but in came the EEOC and its attempt to smuggle "gender identity" into Title VII.
"Sex" and "gender identity" are not the same thing. "Sex" treats whether someone is male or female as an objective fact based in biology. In contrast, "gender identity" is a fluid, non-binary, and difficult-to-define concept that reduces maleness or femaleness to subjective perceptions.
Neither government agencies nor the courts have authority to rewrite federal law by replacing "sex" with "gender identity" ‐ a change with widespread consequences for everyone. And Tom Rost isn’t alone in paying the consequences of shifting legal ground. The larger question applies to school restrooms, women’s-only homeless shelters, and women’s athletics, to name a few.
In R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes, the Supreme Court has its chance to affirm the clear definition of "sex."

So, according to the EEOC, if someone was a devout Pastifarian they could insist on wearing a pasta strainer while ushering in the funeral chapel? Does the EEOC enforce a Dress Code in their own building?

The Japanese government has decided to procure the F35B short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) stealth fighter aircraft as part of the new defense plan to be outlined next month. This information was reported by Japanese media Nippon News Network (NNN).
The carrier-borne aircraft would be procured to be deployed from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force(JMSDF) two Izumo-class helicopter destroyers, JS Izumo and JS Kaga. The two vessels, the largest in the JMSDF fleet with a displacement of 27,000 tons (full load) and a length of 248 meters would be modified in order to accommodate the aircraft.
The first ship in the class, Izumo was launched on 6 August 2013. The ship was commissioned on 25 March 2015. Kaga was commissioned on 22 March 2017. The F35B is a derivative of the F35A already operated by the Japan Air Self Defense Force.

Likely the name is pronounced the same but the kanji are different. So the Hawaiian Orchid grower's I know family name is Akagi but not the same as the ship Akagi. Likewise my old landlady was a Kubota but not the same family as the tractor company. This might be the Japanese solution to the "Smith" problem.

[ToloNews] The arrest of Alipoor, a local commander, was discussed in parliament on Monday ‐ which led to an argument between a number of MPs.
Some MPs said Alipoor is a hero because he fought Taliban ...Arabic for students... and that by arresting him, government was showing signs ofsupporting the Taliban and Lion of Islam groups.
"Those who have complaints against Alipoor, they are a number of forces of Evil and criminals who have burned Korans and people," MP Arif Rahmani said.
Some other MPs however welcomed government’s move to arrest Alipoor saying that security forces should arrest illegal gunnies from all parts of the country.
"Those who protested yesterday, I see them as war criminals," MP Mujib Rahman Samkanai said.
"Beating police and burning vehicles are not what the people deserve," MP Ghulam Farooq said.
Parliament speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi urged government to take action to quickly end the problems that have come about following the arrest.
By this he was referring to two days of demonstrations in Kabul city by Alipoor supporters.
Following Alipoor’s arrest, his supporters launched demonstrations in Kabul, Bamiyan ...a place in Afghanistan that used to have some historically interesting statues of the Buddha carved into a mountainside. Then the holy men showed up and now all they have is some big holes... and Mazar-e-Sharif cities and in some cases the protests turned violent.
WHO IS ALIPOOR AND WHY DID THE NDS ARREST HIM?
Abdul Ghani Alipoor, whohas become a veritable hero to his supporters but a problem for security departments, is from Behsood district of Maidan Wardak province.
Three years ago, when tension between nomads and local residents in Behsood and Daimirdad districts become serious, he created a public uprising force of about 150 men under the name of ’Resistance Front’.
So far, he has repeatedly supported the public uprising forces against Taliban in Ghor, Daikundi, Ghazni and Maidan Wardak provinces.
He was placed in durance vile You have the right to remain silent... by the National Directorate of Security ...the Afghan national intel agency... (NDS) on Sunday in the west of Kabul.
His arrest was followed by protests by his supporters in Kabul, Bamiyan and Mazar-e-Sharif cities whohave called on government to immediately free him.
The protests started on Sunday and continuedthrough Monday. The protest in Kabulturned violent and so far, a number of protesters and security forces have been injured.
"Alipoor has played good roles in maintaining security in different parts of the country," a protester said.
"Alipoor did not create any problems for the government, he just wanted to ensure people's rights," another protester said.
NDS says that Alipoor is the commander of an illegal-gang and is accused of harassing the people, attacking security forces and demanding bribes from traders.
NDS said Alipoor isbeing held in detention and the legal and judicial centers will investigate the allegations against him.
A number of politicians however support Alipoor andhis arrest, and that of other commanders like him,is a calculated political move.
"Afghanistan people in fact are afraid of government, from people inside the government. Government itself has become a problem in the country and that is why the people refer to those men who can really defend them," Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of Massoud Foundation said.
"Government begs the Taliban, but jails those who fights the Taliban," Bashir Ahmad Tayyanj, front man for the Islamic National Movement of Afghanistan said.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Russian space agency Roscosmos, whose reputation has already been hit by the failure of a Soyuz rocket last month, was on Sunday targeted by the country’s audit court over financial irregularities including "stolen" billions.
Goodness. That sounds like a lot.
"We have serious problems with Roscosmos," the Accounts Chamber chairman Alexeï Kudrin said in televised comments.
"Procurement procedures are bad, prices are too high, many projects are unfinished or halted, and funds stand unused for months, and several billion have been lost - stolen - and investigations are ongoing, " the former finance minister added.
A 2017 report by the court signalled a total of 151 irregularities within the space agency accounts, totalling 785.5 billion rubles ($11.9 billion), Russian news agency reported.
Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin has called for the Accounts Chamber to carry out a sectoral audit and to approve an anti-corruption plan.
Russia’s space programme has been beset by problems in recent years, although no lives have been lost.
On October 11, a Soyuz rocket failure forced Russian cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin and US astronaut Nick Hague to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff in Kazakhstan. The pair escaped unharmed.
It was the first such incident in Russia’s post-Soviet history -- an unprecedented setback for the country’s space industry.
The Soviet-designed Soyuz rocket is currently the world’s only lifeline to the International Space Station.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In a move seemingly aimed at expressing his rejection of the events which unfolded following the failed coup attempt that took place more than two years ago, a young Ottoman Turkish man has refused and returned a veteran honor given to him by President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey... On Sunday, opposition Ottoman Turkish websites including Vaziyet stated that Sabri Unal, who took part in countering the military coup attempt on the night of July 15, 2016, had returned his medal of honor.
Unal sparked the interests of both local and international media outlets after a surveillance camera video went viral, where he was seen facing tanks belonging to the army group involved in the failed coup attempt.
On the night of July 15, civilians erupted into the streets after Erdogan spoke on a local channel through the application of FaceTime, calling on civilians to take part in aborting the coup attempt.
According to the video footage, Unal was among those who responded to the call, and driven by adrenaline he stood up to the tank which hit him, causing him to fall to the ground and to suffer from injuries, according to video footage.
After the heavy machine rolled over his fallen body, Unal got up on his feet to find himself in front of another tank charging toward him. Instead of escaping, the same scene repeated itself, but the young man miraculously survived.
Immediately after the footage spread, Ottoman Turkish media rushed to highlight the story of the young man who lost his arm while the authorities honored him and awarded him a medal as well as a set of privileges.
He was received by the Ottoman Turkish president in November 2016 as one of those who were maimed. Yet, two years following the reception, according to the website Vaziyet, Unal blew out a huge surprise when he wrote on his Twitter account that he had returned the medal and was intending to relinquish all privileges.

[PhilStar] A joint police and military operation yesterday morning resulted in a clash with New People’s Army militants believed to have been holed up in a beach resort in Barangay Talomo in Davao City. No casualties have been reported.
Police spokesman Marcelo Morales said that the police team was about to serve five warrants of arrest against Ernie del Pilar, also known as Commander Jeffrey of the NPA’s Pulang Bagani Command 1 and his group at Victorio’s Beach Resort.
Morales said they monitored at least eight other NPA members who were with Del Pilar at the time of the encounter. He said, “Our troops tried hard to make sure that they could not escape but the rebels escaped."

I think the plan is to actually have an overtly marxist ticket in 2020 with the expectation that it will lose badly. The socialists can then say the only way to their dream is to bypass the ballot box and go straight up revolution.

:Heh: I was just reading a science fiction story where, after passing the "O" Amendment to the Constitution, President Oprah Winfrey was elected to her fourth term...
...After looking at some of the Democratic candidates it doesn't seem so improbable.

Typically the party in power gets re-elected because the party out of power puts up a meh, or an outright crazy candidate.
The real problem is Bernie is a crazy candidate but half the electorate has gone crazy and a selection of the other half will have PTSD over the constant attacks on Trump by then and might hope for some peace and quiet (which won't happen but people are easily fooled).
#11
I don't think the dems will be able to get away with meh. Their big money donors expect a Barry or a Beto now. They might go for Kamalamala Dingdong or Spartacus but I don't think the big money feels the Bern...

Hillary was the meh candidate. This time they will go for attractive and controllable. Beto most likely although if Trump is super-popular at that time they may let Sanders run with Beto as running mate to put him in place for the followup.

Areas to the west, Ohare and the northwest suburbs were hit the worst.
Downtown and south, not so much. Also north of Kenosha there were only flurries. Very narrow band of snowfall.
Wasn't the snow so much (8"-12" wet snow in places), it was the wind gusts up to 60-mph that caused the outages. Trees and stuff (made heavier by the wet snow) do that when they fall over onto power lines.

I am waiting for the snow to melt before taking out the chainsaw to take care of the damage. Comcast had 2 major outages in my neighborhood - likely do to downed trees. Neighbor across the street had a large pine tree sort of collapse on itself hitting his car and a roof in the process (tree was maybe 50 ft tall). He needed to chainsaw his way out of the driveway yesterday AM. Constant background of chainsaws in the daylight.
Garbage truck still has not showed up (day late).

[PRESSTV] al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... button men and a boom-mobileer have struck a religious center in central Somalia, killing a holy man and at least 14 of his followers, a police officer says.
The group was forced from Mogadishu in 2011 and most towns and cities but it retains a strong presence outside the capital and launches frequent bombings and other attacks in a campaign to topple the federal government.
"The (security) operation is now over. al-Shabaab killed 15 people including the holy man, his wife, his followers and his guards," Captain Nur Mohammed, a police officer, told Rooters from Galkayo by phone.
"Three bully boyz who stormed the center were also rubbed out."
The group took responsibility for the attack and put the number of dead at 26. It said some soldiers who responded to the first attack also died as they tried to remove a second boom-mobile.
"We killed 26 people, including the owner of the center, his followers, his bodyguards and soldiers," Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabaab’s military operation front man, said.
Abdirashid Hashi, the governor of Mudug region, told Rooters that al-Shabaab had threatened Abdiweli on numerous occasions.
An elder in Galkayo said Abdiweli had provided free boarding to former pirates, street boys and jobless men and they became his followers.
"He used to tell teenagers: "If you were a pirate, or a bandit, stop it and come and eat food and sleep here. God will forgive your sins. Some other ignorant teenagers thought he was as saint ... and so joined him," local elder Ismail Abdirahman told Rooters.
"We understood there was something wrong with him but we could not take him to court because the man was well-armed."
In a separate attack in Mogadishu on Monday, at least three people died when a boom-mobilewent kaboom! in front of shops in the Wadajir district of the capital, police and witnesses said.

The organization said it was no longer possible to work in Turkey after it became the target of "baseless claims" in the media and a renewed investigation by Ottoman Turkish authorities into mass protests against Erdogan’s government five years ago.
It said the Ottoman Turkish Interior Ministry was renewing attempts to prove that the Soros foundation was behind the 2013 Gezi Park protests, one of the biggest political challenges to Erdogan’s 15-year rule. The foundation denied any link to the protests.
Erdogan denounced Soros last week while speaking of the detention of 13 activists and academics accused of supporting attempts by tossed in the slammer ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... businessman and rights advocate Osman Kavala to revive the Gezi protests.
"The person (Kavala) who financed Lions of Islam during the Gezi incidents is already in prison," Erdogan told a meeting of local administrators on Wednesday.
"And who is behind him? The famous Hungarian Jew Soros. This is a man who assigns people to divide nations and shatter them. He has so much money and he spends it this way."
If they’re being blamed for him, it’s no wonder the Hungarians loathe him.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Trump administration imposed a new round of sanctions on Iran on November 5, 2018 aimed at zeroing oil and gas exports and announced that these sanctions would be the toughest yet on Iran. Then, Secretary Pompeo announced that eight countries would be exempted from Iran’s sanctions on humanitarian grounds, to supply food and medicine, but this exemption was temporary and would be subject to an immediate reduction of 40 to 50 percent of Iran’s oil purchase.
The Iranian regime, which was looking for an opportunity to ride on the wave of the exemptions for the eight countries on Iran’s oil purchases, used mass propaganda to induce the popular belief that the United States had failed completely in Iran’s sanctions and they would not disrupt Iran’s foreign exchange earnings.
But, according to credible reports, after November 5, the Iranian regime has been providing artificial respiration for its controlled economy by taking tens of millions of dollars from banks and injecting it into the market to absorb the shocks of the sanctions. This, of course, against a backdrop of suppressive military-police activity, including daily executions, carried out to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

[PRESSTV] Iran says it is ready to export domestically built fighter jets after showcasing them to potential buyers during an upcoming air show on Kish Island.
Brigadier General Abdoklarim Banitarafi, head of Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO), made the announcement on Monday, before the air show’s opening ceremony.
"We have already taken the necessary steps to export products that we are authorized to sell," he told news hounds, noting that Tehran will resume selling trainer jets as well.
Iran unveiled its first domestically designed and manufactured fighter jet named "Kowsar" during a defense show in Tehran in August.
The fourth-generation Iranian fighter jet is equipped with "advanced avionics and fire control systems" and can be used for short aerial support missions.
The plane can be manufactured in both single- and double-cockpit types, the latter of which can be used for advanced pilot training missions in addition to its combat capability, according to Fars news agency.

Qutri al-Obeidi, a big shot with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Anbar, told the privately-owned Almaalomah website that the Iraqi Air Force targeted a group of Islamic State Death Eaters in al-Ja’ara area in the desert of Ar-Rutbah, west of Anbar.
"The airstrike left 13 Islamic State murderous Moslems dead," al-Obeidi said, adding that senior IS leaders were among those killed in the air raid.
He pointed out that security measures have been intensified to foil any possible terrorist attack in the area.

[AnNahar] Hundreds of Central American migrants colonists who tried to force through a Mexican police blockade into the United States retreated to a nearby camp Monday after U.S. border agents pushed them back with tear gas and rubber bullets.
Around 500 men, women and kiddies, part of a caravan of roughly 5,000 mainly Hondurans who have been trekking towards the U.S. for weeks, scrambled over a rusted metal fence and surged into a concrete riverbed towards San Diego on Sunday.
The group were stopped by a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire and repelled by U.S. Border Patrol agents firing tear gas shells and rubber bullets, an AFP journalist on the scene saw.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The last thing that visitors of two "medical centers" in Egypt’s Alexandria expected was for the doctors treating them from their drug addiction, to be drug pushers themselves.
On November 22, the Egyptian Interior Ministry announced that it had jugged Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! six men who impersonated drug addiction doctors in Alexandria.
Investigations revealed that two of the arrested were involved in previous drug-related crimes, according to the ministry’s statement on Facebook.
The statement added that the Criminal Investigation Services in Alexandria had confirmed that: "Some criminal elements deceived the citizens and took their money while they impersonated doctors specialized in treating drug addiction and psychiatry, as well as establishing and managing centers for drug addiction treatment in the suburbs of the city, without obtaining a license from the concerned authorities."
According to the police, the two centers "had received many patients and kept them for addiction treatment without specialized medical supervision."
The accused had rented two buildings and equipped them with clinics for medical examinations, classrooms and food courts. They specified the price for a month’s stay to be 15,000 EGP (850 USD) per patient.
The police asserted that when they confronted the perpetrators "they immediately admitted the crime." They also revealed that "there were 18 women inside the first center and 16 men inside the second one, and they were handed over to their families after they were medically examined by a specialized medical committee."
The police stated that they had seized large amounts of drugs that had been prescribed for the addicts without medical prescriptions, some of which were being used by the drug addicts for illegal purposes.
In July 2017, Amr Othman, the director of the Egyptian Anti-Addiction Treatment Fund, said that the drug addiction percentage among Egyptians is more than ten percent, which is double the international percentages.

[Libya Observer] French officials hinted to Khalifa Haftar ...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... - the commander of the Libyan self-styled army - their support for his intended military operations to control Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , London-based al-Arab newspaper reported Saturday, citing sources close to Haftar.
The newspaper said Haftar met with French officials, including the Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of Palermo Conference on November 12-13, discussing his intent to militarily advance on Tripoli and thus receiving a go-ahead signal from the French days later.
"Haftar understood that La Belle France is in support for his military operations in Tripoli and that he will receive funds and political support from it, to be added to its previous support for him in Benghazi and Derna." The sources added.
"He already started to lay down some military tactics for the operations. He was motivated by the French green light." The sources further added.
Hafatr and his loyalist have more than once vowed to carry out a military operation in Tripoli in order to control it and "liberate it from militias."
"La Belle France tried to urge regional powers to support Haftar in his move into the Libyan capital, but they had expressed some qualms and said the step could be seen as a coup." The sources explained, adding that La Belle France tempted Haftar into the move by saying it would urge the UN Security Council to partially remove the arms ban on Libya so his forces can be more prepared for the battle.
La Belle France, out of other supporters, has been involved in Haftar's alleged war on terror in Benghazi and the rest of the eastern region, with many reports revealing that it had boots on the ground in Libya fighting alongside Haftar's forces in Benghazi, besides its backup Arclight airstrikes that had always helped Haftar gain more and lose less.
