The onerous Jonah Goldberg: 'Cancel the Primaries'
"Dear Couch"
[National Review] The Democratic primary campaign started in January, but it already feels as if it began in the late Jurassic period, and the first votes are still three months away.

Primaries are a lot like Christmas: The shopping season begins way before, and things rarely live up to expectations. (I mean this in the secular sense. I’m not talking about celebrating the birth of Jesus; I’m talking about pretending to be psyched about new socks or, say, Joe Biden.)

I still like Christmas, but I’m happy to play the Grinch with the primaries. We should get rid of them. If I could, I’d sneak into the Whovilles of Iowa and New Hampshire and steal the voting machines, ballots, and bad coffee.

In the past, my Grinchiness was mostly reserved for the "first in the nation" Iowa and New Hampshire votes. Why should these two states have so much power? Two generations of political consultants have made their careers by knowing how to fill hotel rooms in Des Moines and whose palms to grease in Nashua. Scour the Federalist Papers and the Constitution and you’ll find no mention of primaries, never mind the Hawkeye and Granite State Hegemony. And yet, if you win in either or both, you’re statistically likely to become your party’s nominee.

The Iowa caucuses are a particular affront. If it weren’t for them, there’d be no ethanol subsidies, which are bad for your car, the economy, and the environment. If such things bother you, Iowa and New Hampshire are also very white places, and I don’t mean in the "white Christmas" sense.

But the proposed remedies ‐ rotating the primary states every four years, nuking Iowa from orbit, etc. ‐ don’t really fix the underlying problem. We shouldn’t have primaries at all ‐ and that goes for Senate and House primaries, too.

India-Pakistan
The Rise of the East India Company Is Not a Cautionary Tale about Corporate Power
[National Review] How did a joint stock company founded in Elizabethan England come to replace the glorious Mughal Empire of India, ruling that great land for a hundred years? William Dalrymple’s splendid history, The Anarchy, tells that story‐and purports to warn us about the perils of corporate power. The American edition sports the provocative subtitle, "The East India Company, Corporate Violence, and the Pillage of an Empire" (compared with the neutral British subtitle, "The Relentless Rise of the East India Company"). Yet the story Dalrymple really tells is of how government power corrupts commercial enterprise.

The East India Company’s charter began with an original sin‐Elizabeth I granted the company a perpetual monopoly on trade with the East Indies. With its monopoly giving it enhanced access to credit and vast wealth from Indian trade, it’s no surprise that the company grew to control an eighth of all Britain’s imports by the 1750s. Yet it was still primarily a trading company, with some military capacity to defend its factories. That changed thanks to a well-known problem in institutional economics ‐ opportunism by a company agent, in this case Clive of India.

The "anarchy" in the book’s title refers to the disintegration of Mughal India following the death of Emperor Aurangzeb in 1707. Religious intolerance, devastating Persian and Afghan invasions, a series of weak and unstable rulers, and powerful viziers and regional potentates left the emperor imprisoned and his heir, Shah Alam, exiled from Delhi.

One particularly unstable potentate, Siraj ud-Daulah, Nawab of Bengal, alienated his bankers, the Jagat Seths, and demanded foreign merchants dismantle their walls, which were erected mostly to defend against other European companies. Facing threats from the French, the company governor of Calcutta refused. Siraj plundered the settlement. A company force led by Clive recaptured Calcutta, backed by crown forces that feared yielding advantage to the French.

The Jagat Seths then bribed the company men to attack Siraj. Clive, with an eye for personal gain, was happy to do so. In what Dalrymple calls a crucial point, the company directors had no part in this. They "consistently abhorred ambitious plans of conquest," he notes. Clive’s defeat of Siraj at Plassey and the subsequent chain of events that led to Shah Alam giving tax-raising powers to the company in 1765 may be history’s most egregious example of the principal-agent problem.

The Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi takedown - Why Delta and not ST6?
[SOFREP] Why did American commanders choose Delta Force over SEAL Team 6 to conduct the operation that killed the leader of ISIS?

Many are bound to speculate that the SEAL option was quietly put aside because of the never-ending drama emanating from the Naval Special Warfare (NSW). And the problems in the SEAL community aren’t restricted in the "White" SEAL teams ‐ "White" teams are the acknowledged SEAL teams that aren’t part of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).

The Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), also known as SEAL Team 6, has had its fair share of issues ‐ issues that came in to the forefront in the immediate aftermath of the last high-profile operation of the Global War on Terror (GWOT).

Operation Neptune Spear, the raid to kill or capture Usama Bin Laden, was conducted by DEVGRU’s Red Squadron. Soon after UBL was dead, an account of the raid appeared in the form of a book written by Mark Bissonnette (he wrote it under the pen name of Mark Owen). Soon thereafter, the "Shooter’s" (Robert O’Neil) account emerged and brought an additional wave of bad publicity on DEVGRU and the NSW community.

And then reports about DEVGRU’s alleged war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan emerged. Couple the above with the recent high profile cases in the NSW community, for example, Chief Gallagher’s war crimes trial, drug issues in SEAL Team 10, SEAL Team 7’s Alpha Platoon withdrawal from Iraq ‐ which was made public by SOCOM on Twitter, highlighting the utter lack of confidence in the SEAL community to discipline its own, and it’s only reasonable to assume that American commander shunned away from the ST6 option because of the inability of the unit and the SEAL community to avoid embarrassing incidents.

A plausible, and even desirable, reason for many in the SOF community. But that wasn’t why Delta was chosen for the operation.

Ever since America has been engaged in two simultaneous conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, JSOC has decided to divide the pie between its two Direct Action Special Mission Units (SMU). DEVGRU got Afghanistan, Delta got Iraq. This, of course, doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been a transfusion of elements from the two units between the two Areas of Responsibility (AOR). But Delta has had the lead in Iraq (and Syria) since March 2003.

Another reason why Delta was chosen for the operation is directly related to the above: battlefield familiarity. Delta shooters have been fighting ISIS alongside their Kurdish and Iraqi allies for close to five years. After multiple combat rotations in the theater, they have gained an invaluable understanding of how the terrorist organization functions and its operational and tactical peculiarities. That doesn’t mean that DEVGRU wouldn’t be able to pull this mission off ‐ SMUs are designed, after all, to be ready for any contingency anywhere in the world. But rather it delineates the relationships that Delta has been nurturing in the region and the great work it has been doing. A work that began in late 2015.

Under the guise of the Expeditionary Targeting Force (ETF), JSOC elements redeployed in Iraq in the closing months of 2015. The ETF was autonomous, comprising of shooters from Delta, Rangers, aviation support from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (160th SOAR), a military intelligence detachment, and an assortment of enablers. Its goal was simple ‐ take the fight to ISIS; give them no rest, no quarter.

Drawing from the McChrystal playbook, which devastated Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) during the Iraqi insurgency, the ETF and its Kurdish allies began a surgical campaign that has since resulted in the killing (direct or indirectly) of approximately 25,000 ISIS fighters.

Operation Kayla Mueller was commanded by JSOC’s departing deputy commander Major General John W. Brennan Jr.

Britain
Springtime for Boris...and Its Lessons for Trump
[Townhall] After much procrastination and evasion, this week Britain's Parliament finally relented to the request of Prime Minister Boris Johnson for a general election. For the first time since 1923, Britain will have an election in chilly December. And yet, for Boris, this would appear to be springtime for his political prospects. Why? His Conservative Party is heavily favored to capture a solid majority, confirming Johnson's premiership and almost inevitably approving his renegotiated deal with the EU over Brexit. In short, by the end of 2019, it would appear highly likely that Boris will have solidified his grip on his party, on Parliament, and on a newly independent United Kingdom. That sounds a lot like total victory, from Boris's perspective.

Why am I so sanguine about Boris's chances? Because for months the British political establishment and the media have heaped contempt on poor Boris. They have pilloried him, whittled away at his majority in Parliament by encouraging defections and rebellion, and questioned his decency, integrity, and even his sanity. Boris has been given the Trump treatment, in other words, and yet he's still standing ‐ unbowed, undaunted, and ready for more. Boris has proven his mettle in extraordinary fashion, and that makes it likely that he can endure ‐ nay, prosper ‐ in the midst of a tough general election campaign. After all, he's used to incoming fire.

Even more tellingly, despite all the slings and arrows that have come Boris's way, his party is soaring in the polls. The latest snapshots of voter sentiment in anticipation of the upcoming general election put the Conservatives ahead by 16, 13, 17, 14, 8, and 15 points, respectively. Can circumstances change before December 12th? Absolutely. But what fresh assault on Boris and the Tories can be contrived, when the opposition has already thrown everything at them but the kitchen sink? Stay tuned on that front.

Given the bright prospects now contemplated by Boris Johnson and the Conservatives in the U.K., it seems reasonable to ask the obvious question: why is the political right thriving in Britain at the same time that a similarly conservative, populist, nationalist leader in the U.S. is struggling? Why is Boris almost certain to win re-election, while most polls in this country show Trump losing to electoral lightweights like Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders?

The answer lies in a key difference between U.S. and British politics.
...and possibly in differences between British and American pollsters...
In the United States, the two-party system, while manifestly unpopular, has proved surprisingly durable.
This suggests that, like democracy itself, the two-party system is the worst way to do things except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time...
In the U.K., on the other hand, eight parties captured seats in the last Parliamentary election, and this time approximately ten parties have a legitimate shot at doing so. Moreover, as recently as 2015 the two main British parties captured only two-thirds of the vote. In 2019, the average of current polling shows the Conservatives capturing about 36% of the vote and Labour about 25 percent. In other words, 40 percent of the public is either undecided or plans to vote for another party. In the U.S., polling averages show less than 10 percent of the electorate uncommitted to either of the two main parties.

...The lesson for Trump is a straightforward one, but one not easily acted upon. Trump is, to be frank, an unpopular figure, and an unpopular president,
...in certain circles, yes. But so was Obama, not to mention George W. Bush. Wikipedia collected the historical record on Electoral College and popular vote counts here.
in a country where it is hard to win an election if you gain less than 50 percent of the votes. That's bad news.
It does depend on how many of the votes came from legitimate voters— certain districts are notorious for having more votes than voters, among other issues.
To win re-election, therefore, Trump must do one of three things: he must improve his own popularity (very difficult, given the media's undisguised loathing), he must drive up his opponent's negatives (somewhat more achievable, given the poor quality of the Democratic field and the vast resources available to the GOP), or he must divide and fragment the opposition, making it possible to win in 2020 with less than 50 percent of the vote.
Interesting times, for sure.

This ‘Impeachment' Is a Cover-Up
h/t Instapundit
[Spectator] Nancy Pelosi proclaimed Thursday that the party-line impeachment vote in the House of Representatives was about protecting "democracy." Madame Speaker was actually close to speaking the truth for once, because what the impeachment circus is about is protecting Democrats, particularly the Obama administration officials who sought to sabotage President Trump both during the 2016 election campaign and after Trump won. The vote Thursday ‐ 232 to 196, with all but two Democrats in favor and all Republicans voting "no" ‐ followed several days of secret testimony in deranged California Rep. Adam Schiff’s House Intelligence Committee, conducted prior to any authorizing vote on the House floor. Now that Democrats have formally voted to climb aboard the "Ukrainegate" impeachment train, however, Pelosi and her party have signed a sort of suicide pact. They must destroy the president in a desperate effort to prevent Americans from learning what Obama, the Democratic Party, and "deep state" bureaucrats did to Trump.

It was perhaps symbolic that this House vote happened on Halloween, inspiring the president to remark on Twitter: "The Greatest Witch Hunt In American History!"

Iraq
Iraqis pour into streets for biggest protest day since Saddam
[Jpost] Tens of thousands of Iraqis thronged central Baghdad on Friday demanding the root-and-branch downfall of the political elite in the biggest day of mass anti-government demonstrations since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

One woman died after she was struck in the head by a tear gas canister, Iraq's Human Rights Commission said, and at least 155 people were maimed on Friday as security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets on protesters camped out in the capital's Tahrir Square.

Five people died on Thursday night from similar injuries.

Protests have accelerated dramatically in recent days, drawing huge crowds from across Iraq's sectarian and ethnic divides to reject the political parties in power since 2003.

Friday, the Moslem main day of prayer, drew the biggest crowds yet, with many taking to the streets after worship.

By the afternoon tens of thousands had packed the square, condemning elites they see as deeply corrupt, beholden to foreign powers and responsible for daily privations.

Protests have been comparatively peaceful by day, becoming more violent after dark as police use tear gas and rubber bullets to battle self-proclaimed "revolutionary" youths.

At least 250 people have been killed over the past month.

Clashes have focused on the ramparts to the Republic Bridge leading across the Tigris to the heavily fortified Green Zone of government buildings, where the protesters say out-of-touch leaders are holed up in a walled-off bastion of privilege.

"Every time we smell death from your smoke, we yearn more to cross your republic's bridge," someone wrote on a nearby wall.

Amnesia Amnesty International said on Thursday security forces were using "previously unseen" tear gas canisters modeled on military grenades that are 10 times as heavy as standard ones.

"We are peaceful yet they fire on us. What are we, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
holy warriors? I saw a man die. I took a tear gas canister to the face," said Barah, 21, whose face was wrapped in bandages.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday urged all sides to reject violence, adding that Iraq's official inquiry into the early October violence "lacked sufficient credibility."

"The Iraqi people deserve genuine accountability and justice," Pompeo said in a statement. "The Government of Iraq should listen to the legitimate demands made by the Iraqi people."

Hillary Clinton Laughs Off Question About Killing Jeffrey Epstein
[The Federalist] Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central’s "The Daily Show" asked 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton about the conspiracies swirling around the death of billionaire accused sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

"Hillary, I have to ask you a question that has been plaguing me for a while. How did you kill Jeffrey Epstein?" Noah asked Thursday. "Because you’re not in power, but you have all the power. I really need to understand how you do what you do, because you seem to be behind everything nefarious, and yet you do not use it to become president. What is the game plan?

As Clinton began to answer, Noah cut her off, asking how she felt as the "boogeyman of the right."

"Well, it’s a constant surprise to me because the things they say, and now, of course, it’s on steroids with being online, are so ridiculous, beyond any imagination that I could have," Clinton responded. "Yet they are so persistent in putting forth these crazy ideas and theories. Honestly, I don’t know what I ever did to get them so upset."

‘Boys Are Stupid; Girls Are Awesome' – Most TV Shows & Movies Today
[Intellectual Takeout] Most kids’ shows today are pretty much twaddle.

However, in moments of exhaustion and weakness, I let my boys watch the occasional age-appropriate movie or TV show. But I usually find myself having some ’splainin to do with them afterwards.

That’s because, more often than not, they have just watched something in which the female lead is the smart and capable hero, and the male lead is the bumbling idiot who must be rescued by his female companion. For the sake of their self-esteem, I find myself having to clarify that what they are witnessing is a systematic effort to denigrate men for the sake of exalting women, all in the name of "equity".

In a recent article, Bishop Robert Barron of PBS fame has referred to this effort as the "Homer Simpsonization of men":
"Don’t get me wrong: I’m a big fan of The Simpsons and laugh at Homer’s antics as much as the next guy. But the father of the Simpson family is stupid, boorish, drunk most of the time, irresponsible, comically incompetent, and childish. In the cartoon world, he is echoed, of course, by Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, who is similarly buffoonish. In both cases, the wives‐Marge in The Simpsons and Lois in Family Guy‐have the brains, the competence, and the moral responsibility. And in The Simpsons, Homer is imitated by his son Bart, who is sneaky, stupid, and unmotivated, and Marge by daughter Lisa, who is hyper-smart, uber-competent, and morally alert."
You will notice this same prototype in many of today’s family sitcoms where the female lead is usually fit and gorgeous while the male lead is an unintelligent and sometimes unattractive Neanderthal. As Barron points out, you’ll also notice it in most of the recent movies:
"And I wonder whether you’ve noticed a character that can be found in practically every movie made today? I call her the ’all-conquering female.’ Almost without exception, she is underestimated by men and then proves herself more intelligent, cleverer, more courageous, and more skilled than any man. Whether we’re talking about a romantic comedy, an office-drama, or an adventure movie, the all-conquering female will almost inevitably show up. And she has to show her worth in a domineering way, that is to say, over and against the men. For her to appear strong, they have to appear weak. For a particularly good case in point, watch the most recent Star Wars film."

We shouldn't overestimate the impact of this entertainment-industry campaign on behalf of the "all-conquering female"; there are still plenty of men out there who are full of self-esteem and are very successful.

But as one of our articles last week showed, there are also increasing numbers of men who are checking out of society. One-sixth of men between the ages of 25 and 34 have stopped looking for work all together. Women are outpacing men in both college attendance and graduation. Suicide rates for middle-age men continue to rise. And fathers are now absent from one-third of American homes. There are undoubtedly many factors behind these phenomena, but it can’t help that movies and televisions today are constantly feeding men the message that they are stupid, and that society doesn’t really expect much from them.

In his conclusion, Barron points out that some modern correction of previously deficient portrayals of women was probably in order. "But," he writes, "what is problematic now is the Nietzschean quality of the reaction, by which I mean, the insistence that female power has to be asserted over and against males, that there is an either/or, zero-sum conflict between men and women."

Indeed. Can’t our society build up one gender without taking down another?

#1  Can’t our society build up one gender without taking down another?

No. Because, to people implementing the program - most of whom are women, women ARE inferior.

#2  I actually consider myself a sort of knight for women's rights. I believe I can forgive (most) women for their trespasses because men have simply been assholes to them and forced them to adapt to that. I find men themselves to blame for driving the woman to extreme hatred mixed with angst and self-loathing. The idiot masses have louder louts and leches than decent, gallant men and the worst of us that crave attention, quite often get it.

This 'men are inferior' doctrine. Who sets it in motion ? Who are the writers, the producers, the enablers of this stupid creed ? Is it not 'involuntary celibates' in thick glasses and designer wear, trying to impress women to get in their pants ? Or manipulative men invested in the empowerment of the most whimsical section of society - the fairer sex ? Invested so as to one day reap the reward of an easily beguiled, vain leadership of frustrated divorcees and spinsters.

Men control the feminist brigade, the lgbtNation, and any other mass indoctrination agenda that is actuated through hollywood, the MSM or lobbies. I think if they were to be exposed - the Bloombergs and Soros and all the beltway-bums behind the Hillarys and Warrens, that would be a gallant thing to do, and it would also take some steam out of this idiocy.

Men and women need to love each other as much as they love themselves, that's the natural order of things. Trying to suppress nature with nurture has never worked.

#12  [seriously] I'm realizing that there is now a completely parallel cultural-entertainment universe available to young men (and others) who gave no patience for, or interest in, the Hollywood and Woke Culture Shitshow.

Someone who accepts that boys have lots of testosterone, that they are rough at times but also want to be valorous, i.e. willing to fight to uphold concepts like honor or "respect": if you still believe in this conception of maleness and refuse to deny nature, then you can still find an array of delightful, interesting, sometimes even highly instructive videos, podcasts, essays and e-books across the web.

Peterson, Rogan, SouthPark, American Thinker-Federalist-Quillette-CityJournal, and on and on.

And of course, the 'burg.

Anti-cop protesters in Brooklyn block traffic, vandalize bus hours after Trump condemned 'disrespect' of NYPD
[MAIL] Nearly a thousand protesters took to the streets of Brooklyn to demonstrate against the NYPD's recent actions and planned cracking down on New York City subway fare evaders.

The protesters started gathering in Downtown Brooklyn near Barclays Center at about 7pm Friday, with their signs reflecting the dual nature of the march.

While flashier banners bore slogans such as 'Don't let these pigs touch us,' 'F**k the police,' 'Punch that cop' and 'NYPD out of MTA,' other signs read 'Free transit,' 'Poverty is not a crime' and 'Our subways need more $ for elevators, not for cops.'

The demonstration was said to have been brought on by two headline-grabbing incidents that occurred on October 25, which drew accusations of excessive force by police, as well as Gov. Andrew Cuomo's recent decision to add 500 new officers to NYPD's force to patrol the transit system and root out fare evaders.

Over the course of the two-hour protest, participants blocked traffic, shouted obscenities at nearby officers, jumped the subway turnstile en masse and committed acts of vandalization.

One group of protesters was seen surrounding a MTA bus, vandalizing it with stickers and writing anti-police graffiti on it, while passengers were aboard, according to the New York Post.

Passengers told the newspaper that the demonstrators were 'banging on the bus' and that one 'kid with a white mask and a hoodie' used a marker to scrawl graffiti - 'F**k NYPD' and 'NYPD KKK' - on the bus.

'I’m not gonna lie, it was scary,' a passenger said after getting off the bus.

LTC Who Worked With Schiff Witness Vindman Says He Verbally Reprimanded Him For ‘Bashing America'
[WD.com] LTC Hickman said Vindman was clearly a partisan Democrat who was more "activist" than a bipartisan military official. LTC Hickman goes on to say that after several complaints from other officials who were deeply bothered by Vindman’s "anti-American" tone, he verbally reprimanded him for his actions.
LTC(Ret) Jim Hickman foto at right.
Lieutenant Colonel Jim Hickman is very familiar with Adam Schiff’s star witness Alexander Vindman. The two worked together back when Vindman was a Major.

LTC Hickman shared an incident that occurred between the two men during a combined US-Russian exercise called "Atlas Vision 12" in Grafenwoher, GE.

The incident that occurred between the two men was described by LTC Hickman in a Twitter thread he shared on his timeline on October 31st.

He begins the thread by explaining the mission and why the two men were there. He then goes on to describe a disturbing string of events involving then Major Vindman, where he bashed America to Russian and American subordinates, and heavily promoted a "globalist" type agenda.

LTC Hickman said Vindman was clearly a partisan Democrat who was more "activist" than a bipartisan military official. LTC Hickman goes on to say that after several complaints from other officials who were deeply bothered by Vindman’s "anti-American" tone, he verbally reprimanded him for his actions.

LTC Hickman says he wrote the thread because he personally has witnessed Mr. Vindman’s partisan bias behavior and wanted people to know that he’s not the "All American" decorated "hero" that the media and Democrats are painting him out to be.

He’s more of an "activist" than anything else, according to LTC Hickman’s direct observations and interactions with Mr. Vindman.

"I know LTC Alex Vindman from a Combined US-Russian exercise called Atlas Vision 12 in Grafenwoher, GE. He worked w/the Russian Embassy & I was assigned to the JMTC (Joint..."“…Multinational Training Command), w/in USAREUR (US Army Europe). He worked coordination w/the Russian 15th Peacekeeping Brigade, & I was in charge of all Simulations planning, as well as assisting the USAREUR Lead Planner as the Senior Military Planner.

Thanks for the info LTC Hickman. I believe we now know who was pulling the strings on this fellow. But we also know nothing happened as a result of your admonishment concerning his Anti-American rants at Graf 7 years ago. My guess is, nothing will come of his voluntary testimony in front of the never-Trump dems.

Similarly, nothing came of MAJ Nadal Hasan's Anti-American rants... until he went rogue-nutter at Fort Hood. Nothing happened to the Tsarnaev bros. until the Boston Marathon bombing (even though they were known Haji radicals and travelers to Chechnya). Nothing happened about Clinton's 30,000 classified emails on a 'homebrew' server. Nothing happened about the Paki Awan family, DNC IT employees in Woodbridge, VA who...also ran a used car business (frequently used espionage cover-for-action) in Falls Church, VA.

Lastly, seems there will be no further inquiries into the numerous high-ranking foreign visitors to Jeffrey Epstein’s private Caribbean hideaway nor questions concerning his considerable unexplained wealth. Again, nothing has happened, well almost nothing.

Far too many 'nothing happened' coincidences. I simply can't imagine why.

#5  Read Donald Sensing's article on LTC Vindman. He includes Jim Hickman's comments as well.

Geraldo Rivera says Pelosi's impeachment process is "grotesquely unfair and divisive"
[The Hill via Right Scoop] Most Democrats like Juan Williams are sticking to their guns about Pelosi’s impeachment process, but Geraldo sounds more like a Republican as he rips Pelosi’s impeachment process as "grotesquely unfair and divisive":

THE HILL ‐ "It’s grotesquely unfair and divisive. Even The New York Times got it right. Fractured House, bitter vote. This is absolutely the way this went down yesterday," Rivera said on "Fox & Friends."

"The Speaker of the House, the Democrats, have crafted an impeachment which is inherently divisive and made it so very unfair as to enrage Republicans and other fair-minded people," he continued. "You cannot have a process wherein the Speaker, running the event, gets to say the other side what witnesses they can call, and has veto power over those witnesses and over any kind of subpoenas."

"It is so deeply and fundamentally unfair," Rivera later added. "I predict it will lead to the kind of Tea Party uprising we saw in 2009 and 2010. It will divide this country along partisan lines in a way we have heretofore never seen. And I do not believe it will result in justice."

Saagar Enjeti: Difficult to overstate the miserable state that Obama and Biden left this country in
[The Hill] Former Vice President Joe Biden's handlers, they let him out of his private airplane yesterday to do a rare campaign rally in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

I suffered through most of it so that you wouldn't have to, and I really have to tell you how shocking it is. It’s literally like being transported back to the year 1999. The rhetoric and policy proposals are exactly the same; the only difference is he says something along the lines of how this election is, quote "a battle for the soul of this nation."

The rally just completely lacked the self-awareness and the reflection for any person who wants to hold the oval office in the year 2020. Biden remarked on terrible things in American life, as if he has had no role whatsoever in crafting the policies that lead to these terrible things in the first place. Take this lamentation on the state of the middle class.

Further on, he says quote, "I'm determined to give the middle class a real shot in this country. If we ever lose that, we begin to lose the soul of the country. It’s about who we are.

I mean, who wants to tell him folks?

How exactly did the middle class get into trouble? It is absolutely stunning that one of the politicians most responsible for our current plight has the gall to express concern for those he took a direct role in hurting. Biden is, of course, behind the 2005 effort to strip bankruptcy protections for millions of Americans. Protections they probably could have used when the bottom fell out of the economy in 2008.

You would really think from Biden's statement that he did not serve and play a central role in an administration that oversaw the greatest wiping out of middle-class wealth in generations.

Under the Obama/Biden administration median household income cratered and then barely recovered to 2007 levels by the end of 2016. That barely scratches the surface of just how bad things got. In terms of wealth, median total wealth for Americans in 2016 was 34% what it was in 2007. And when Obama left office, the average wealth of the bottom 40% of Americans was minus $8,900. Throughout all this time the everyday costs of life went up, which means in a nutshell, you got epically screwed

It is difficult to overstate the miserable and hollow state that Obama and Biden left this country in. The extremely modest gains made over the course of the Trump administration are a band-aid on the gaping wounds that neoliberals inflicted upon us beginning in the late 90's and 2000's with NAFTA, permanent normal trade relations with Cina, and allowing China to enter to the World Trade Organization.

Hoosier snake enthusiast meets her match
[Lafayette Journal & Courier] OXFORD, Ind. ‐ An 8-foot reticulated python found wrapped around the neck of Laura Hurst, a 36-year-old mother of two and a snake enthusiast from Battle Ground, strangled her in an Oxford house that was designed specifically to house 140 snakes, an autopsy revealed Friday.

The preliminary cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation by a snake, according to an autopsy done by Benton County Coroner Matt Rosenbarger and released Friday by Indiana State Police.

A final autopsy won’t be finished for another four to six weeks, as officials wait for toxicology reports, a standard procedure in autopsies.

Benton County Sheriff Don Munson, who owns the snake house in the 600 block of North Dan Patch Drive, about 25 miles northwest of Lafayette, found Hurst on the floor with the python loosely wrapped around her neck. Munson and medics were unable to revive Hurst, according to an Indiana State Police account. ISP officials say Hurst kept snakes in the house, among Munson’s collection.

Munson was not immediately available for comment Friday. Members of Hurst’s family were not immediately available.

Sgt. Kim Riley, an Indiana State Police spokesman, said that the snake found Wednesday night apparently had been taken from its enclosure. The other snakes in the house were still in their cages when police arrived after getting a call just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Caribbean-Latin America
There was an unspoken pact between narcos and civilians. It broke when El Chapo's son was captured
Long well-written article, a taste:
[San Diego UT] CULIACAN, Mexico ‐ Culiacan has long been a city of open secrets.

Elaborate shrines to fallen drug traffickers dot the streets, and bouncy ballads chronicling the lives of gangsters boom from restaurants, bars and luxury cars.

Behind City Hall, black-market money changers make a living turning dollars into pesos, while at a nearby cemetery, sprawling narco tombs boast marble floors, air conditioning and satellite television.

For decades, drug trafficking has dominated the economy, culture and sometimes the politics of this city of nearly a million people tucked between the Sierra Madre and the Pacific.

And it used to be mostly at peace, thanks to an unspoken pact between residents and the Sinaloa cartel, the group that controls trafficking in the region:

Civilians looked the other way -- as long as the narcos kept their fights off the streets.

That social contract shattered one afternoon two weeks ago when in the span of minutes hundreds of cartel fighters appeared in the middle of the city wielding high-powered weapons.

The assailants were responding to an army operation to capture Ovidio Guzman Lopez, a leader of the Sinaloa cartel and the son of famed drug boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

To pressure the army to release its leader, the cartel took hostage the city it had always claimed to protect.

"It was a rupture," said Isaac Guevara Martinez, a social psychologist who studies violence at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. "This had never happened before. And now nobody knows what to think."

In other parts of Mexico, criminal groups often prey on residents. In Tamaulipas, Guerrero and Michoacan, cartels routinely kidnap civilians and levy hefty "protection" payments on businesses.

But the Sinaloa cartel had always behaved in a different manner. Though cartel members appear to have no qualms about breaking laws ‐ or killing anybody who gets in their way ‐ the group’s founders fostered an almost paternal relationship with locals.

Bonfire of the Vanity Fair: Beto Drops Out
[Ricochet - Jon Gabriel] Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke began his presidential run with a Vanity Fair cover photo taken by Annie Leibovitz. It proved to be the high-water mark of his campaign.

Since then, Beto's campaign has been a comedy of errors. A Kerouac-style vision quest driving aimlessly around the country that he journaled on his web diary. Instagramming a gross dental appointment. Leaping on tables, windmilling his arms, and shouting about the promise of hope to help change what is possible for the future of hopeful promises.
"Skateboarding to be the Leader Of The Free World™!"
Gassing on about vagaries made him a media darling when he was up against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. But on the big stage he seemed, and still seems, shocked that the parade marched on without him. From weak debates to stump flubs to utter policy cluelessness, some white male billionaires just can't catch a break.
and those Furry pics...
When Beto got desperate, he started speaking the quiet part out loud. "Hell yes, we're going to take your AR-15!" he shouted from the debate stage, hawking a T-shirt with the quote minutes later. Red-state Democrats rushed to the cameras insisting they disagreed with the former congressman.

He promised to tax churches that disagree with his LGBTQ weathervane at any given moment. "There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for anyone or any institution, any organization in America, that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us," Beto said.

That would cancel the First and Second amendments; next he might suggest quartering troops in our homes. Alas, with his departure, Beto's forced march through the Bill of Rights has ended in defeat.
As it should
Hopefully, his supporters can console themselves with one of the other 162 candidates running for the Democrat nomination.

Jihadists suffer heavy losses as Syrian Army turns the tables in northern Latakia
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels launched a new offensive in the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate on Friday, targeting several areas under the control of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, the jihadist rebels were initially successful in northern Latakia, as their forces managed to capture several sites, including Tal Rasho and Tal Ballout.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the Syrian Arab Army would quickly respond to this offensive by heavily shelling the jihadist rebels before they could fortify their positions at these newly captured sites in northern Latakia.

According to a military source near the front-lines, the Syrian Arab Army recovered all the areas they lost, except for Tal Rasho, which is expected to retaken later in the day.

The source said the Syrian Army suffered four casualties during the jihadist offensive on Friday, adding that the HTS murderous Moslems and their allies lost more than 10 fighters.

This latest offensive by the jihadist rebels comes just hours after the Syrian Arab Army once again stormed the strategic town of Kabani in the northeastern countryside of Latakia.

IDF attacks terror targets following rocket barrage from Gaza Strip

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip on Friday night after a residential home in the southern Israeli city of Sderot sustained a direct hit by a rocket. The attack was part of a barrage fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip on Friday night.

The Sderot Municipality spokesperson confirmed in a statement that there was damage to the building but there were no injuries as all individuals in the home were in the bomb shelter.

"When I arrived at the street there was chaos, nearby there where numerous vehicles with shattered windscreens. The residents of the building, a 40 year old couple with their children where in a nearby building. The told us that they immediately entered the protected area and left a few minutes later. They were not injured and did not require medical treatment," said MDA Paramedic Alex Kosinov.

Incoming rocket alert sirens were activated in Sderot and other Gaza border communities beginning at 9pm on Friday night.

According to the IDF, seven projectiles were fired from the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run coastal enclave during the first barrage and all were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system. Following the first barrage Paleostinian media reported that an IDF tank shelled a Hamas observation post in the Strip.

Shortly afterwards three more projectiles were fired during the second wave, with only one intercepted.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that it treated a 65-year-old woman in mild condition who fell while trying to reach a bomb shelter. The woman was evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashdod for medical treatment. Several others were treated for shock.

Earlier in the day some 65,000

Paleostinians participated in the weekly Great Return March riots along the Gaza border fence. Paleostinian Wafa News Agency reported 88 injuries but no deaths.

On Thursday evening a rocket was launched towards southern Israeli with incoming rocket sirens activated in the communities of Beeri and Alumim. The rocket landed in an open field, causing no damage or injuries.
A subsequent Jerusalem Post article adds:
The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health reports that one man has died during the IDF attacks in Gaza on Friday night, which were in response to rocket fire from Gaza earlier that day, Walla reports.

The PA also reports of two injuries alongside the casualty.

Lebanon's banks reopen after 2-week hiatus over protests
[DAILYSABAH] Leb's private banks have reopened after a two-week closure because of anti-government protests.

The reopening on Friday follows Prime Minister Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
's resignation this week, a key demand of the protesters.

There are concerns the reopening of the banks would lead many to withdraw their money, fearing economic collapse.

A banker told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named "there are no restrictions" on those who want to withdraw money. The banker spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to news hounds.

Large queues starting forming outside banks from early morning and people rushed in as soon as doors opened to cash in their salaries and make transfers.

Tellers struggled to handle the flood of customers trying to cram inside bank branches, as queues spilt onto the streets.

The central bank had promised not to impose capital controls when banks reopened, measures that could hamper the currency inflows and investment Leb badly needs to weather its worst economic crisis since its 1975-90 civil war.

Shitshow, cont'd: SchifferBlower Blows Smoke, Won't Spill ('No further discussion' between lawyers & Schiff)
[WashingtonExaminer] The whistleblower whose complaint launched impeachment proceedings against President Trump is unlikely to testify to Congress, as talks have ceased between his legal team and committee leaders.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who has overseen depositions in Democrats' impeachment proceeding, was initially eager for the whistleblower to testify before citing concern about the person being identified.

A source familiar with the discussions told the Washington Examiner that talks halted over potential testimony from the whistleblower and there is no discussion of testimony from a second whistleblower, who supported the first's claims.

On Thursday, the House passed a resolution establishing a framework for Trump impeachment proceedings, belatedly granting Republicans the ability to subpoena witnesses, but only if Schiff and fellow Democrats on the Intelligence Committee agree.

Mark Zaid, who along with Andrew Bakaj is an attorney for both the original whistleblower and the second whistleblower, told the Washington Examiner the legal team was willing to work with lawmakers so long as anonymity is ensured. “We remain committed to cooperating with any congressional oversight committee's requests so long as it properly protects and ensures the anonymity of our clients,” Zaid said.

On Wednesday, Zaid and Bakaj declined to confirm or deny in a statement to the Washington Examiner that Eric Ciaramella, 33, a career CIA analyst and former Ukraine director on the NSC, was the whistleblower after a report by RealClearInvestigations.

#2  The Jay Sekulow Live! radio show Friday November 1 reviewed the findings of the realclearinvestigations research into the so called whistleblowers in the Ukranian quid pro quo accusations.

The realclearinvestigations findings, if true, shows that the Adam Schiff House Intelligence Committee investigation into the Ukranian quid pro quo accusation is every bit as corrupt as the Russian collusion narrative and investigation that has been going on since the Trump upset election.

From what I understand it appears the Ukrainian whistleblower allegations against Trump was a setup by Adam Schiff and the deep state on the Left
to investigate, impugn and to impeach Trump before the nation so the Left can win and get back into power in the 2020 election.

There was never any evidence Trump colluded with Russia to win the election in 2016. But the truth never stops the deep state from creating false narratives; it was just the best narrative the Left had against Trump to delegitimize his presidency and his agenda so the Left could deny the president any success till he could be unseated and the Left can get back into power and fulfill the Obama agenda of fundamental change in America of bringing America down to what it really is, a bad country, by undermining it throughout the world.

Adam Schiff should be impeached for the fraud he has perpetrated against the presidency and against the American people. Schiff has no moral standing despite how he has been portrayed by the media as a straight shooter since the Trump investigations began.
It is my hope that the the Durham investigation into the Russia collusion hoax exposes who the real bad actors are and that it would go all the way to the person at the top, Sotero, so the people can see the media narrative that there was no corruption during the Obama administration is totally false.

I pray enough people will figure out this truth before the November 2020 election so no Democrat president can continue to tear down this country like that deep state is trying to do right now.

Once Trump is removed, God forbid, the Left can pursue its other hoaxes of
global warming, save the world environmentalism and social justice projects that undermine real justice and truth.

I am surprised Rantburg has not yet posted an article on the realclearinvestigations findings
that show the whistleblower Ukrainian phone call incident was a setup by Schiff and the same Left deep state actors of the Russian collusion hoax
trying to further undermine Trump's presidency.

Bill Clinton: Epstein's Cause Of Death Depends On What Your Definition Of 'Suicide' Is
[Babylon Bee] PHILADELPHIA, PA‐Speaking to a packed 30-seat arena, Bill Clinton remarked on Jeffrey Epstein's recent passing, saying that Epstein's cause of death "really depends on what your definition of 'suicide' is."

"Did Epstein commit suicide?" asked an attendee at the event.

A wide-eyed Clinton shrugged his shoulders. "I mean, it really depends on what your definition of suicide is, heh."

An awkward silence ensued. Bill turned to look at Hillary for support, but she just glared at him and ran her finger across her throat, a metaphor that means "death."

He went on, "Heh, I mean, well, we've got to define terms here, alright? If you mean, 'Did he hang himself without any outside assistance?' then I'd say that does not fall under the definition of what may or may not have occurred."

Hillary held up a pair of finger guns to her husband's head in a threatening fashion, another metaphor that means "death."
A repeat of their "marriage vows"
Bill gulped. "But, well, heh, if you mean did he hang himself and then shoot himself three times in the back of the head just to be sure? Then yeah, I'd say he committed suicide."

Beto "The Micksican" O'Rourke ends 2020 presidential bid
EpicFail on a State/National basis. Just go away. Forever
[10 News] Former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke announced Friday that he is ending his 2020 presidential campaign, hours ahead of a marquee dinner in Iowa.

O'Rourke told supporters in an email that he will not run for office next year. That means he will also not become a Senate candidate in Texas, despite pleas from some Democrats for him to take on Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

O'Rourke led an all-staff call Friday afternoon, informing aides of his decision to drop out -- a choice that came as a surprise to many of his staff in early-voting states.

O'Rourke's poor fundraising played a key role in his decision to exit the presidential race, aides familiar with his decision to drop out said.

His top advisers had concluded that his current fundraising pace meant he'd have to slash spending -- likely meaning major staff cuts -- in order to pay for the advertising he'd need to get the small boost he needed to qualify for the debate stage in November. O'Rourke raised just $4.5 million in 2019's third quarter and ended it with just $3 million cash on hand.

Assad Doubts al-Baghdadi Death: ‘American Politics Are No Different from Hollywood’
[BREITBART] Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad echoed Russian doubts about the death of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
"caliph" Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in an extensive interview published Friday, attributing most American political developments to "Hollywood."

The regime-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) published Assad’s interview in full, which touches on, among other topics, the al-Baghdadi raid, his opinion of President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
, a potential hot war with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
, and his hope to integrate Kurdish groups into his regime.

President Trump announced that American forces surrounded al-Baghdadi at a secret compound outside Idlib, Syria, last weekend. When al-Baghdadi found himself captured, he ran into a dead-end cave with two of his children and detonated a suicide bomb vest, killing all three. Only one American troop, a canine officer, was injured touching a livewire, according to the Pentagon, but has since returned to duty.

"He died after running into a dead-end tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming all the way," Trump said. "These savage monsters will not escape their fate, and they will not escape the final judgment of God."

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the majority-Kurdish militia responsible for taking ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
down in its "capital," Raqqa, was reportedly responsible for extracting from Islamic State jihadists the intelligence necessary to find al-Baghdadi. Trump thanked them, as well as Turkey, Russia, and Syria for their participation in the operation.

Assad told friendly Syrian media that he did not understand why Trump thanked his dictatorship.

"Maybe, the reason behind including a number of countries as participants in this operation is to give it credibility so these countries will feel not embarrassed, but have the desire to be that they are part of a ’great’ operation, as the Americans have tried to portray it. And in this way, they are credited with fighting terrorism," Assad speculated. "We do not need such credit. We are the ones fighting terrorism. We have no relations and have had no contact with any American institutions."

German police establish branch to fight so-called 'Islamist terrorism'
[DAILYSABAH] German federal police have established a new department to tackle what they claim as "terrorism motivated by Islam," a statement on the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA)'s official website confirmed Friday.

The statement added that the Islam-motivated terrorism (TE) department was formed of two groups, one which is already working on existing cases while the other group will be accepting new personnel soon.

"The fight against Islamist terrorism has a high priority for the Federal Criminal Police Office," the statement stressed, adding the new department is another important step to expand its operational, analytical and supporting capabilities to further strengthen the fight against "Islamist terrorism" together with other federal and state security agencies.

The move follows the growing anti-Moslem tendencies across Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
as many Moslem associations and leaders warn Western governments against wrongfully associating religion with terrorism, and presenting possible criminal activities as related to Islam.

The BKA claimed that the new department was being established to tackle the danger of "Islamist" attacks in Germany remains high despite the defeat of the ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
terrorist group.

The statement added that the new department will be effective in dealing with returnees from the war zones in Syria and Iraq.

Dozens of German ISIS fighters are reportedly in the severely overcrowded al-Hol camp, which is under the control of the PKK terrorist organization's Syrian affiliate People's Protection Units (YPG). Their wives and children are estimated to number in the hundreds. Humanitarian groups have previously called on Germany to take back over 100 children of German ISIS fighters, who they say risk being radicalized.

10 FETÖ suspects arrested over terror ties
[DAILYSABAH] Ottoman Turkish police on Friday arrested 10 alleged members of the Gulenist Terror Group (FETÖ), which is behind the 2016 defeated coup attempt, as part of an investigation into the terror group's infiltration into the naval forces command.

The arrests came after prosecutors in Ankara, the Ottoman Turkish capital, issued arrest warrants for 12 suspects for using ByLock, the terror group's encrypted smartphone messaging app, and for communicating via pay phones with other members of the organization. Among the suspects were retired, dismissed, suspended and on active-duty soldiers. The arrests were made in various provinces including Ankara, and operations continue to arrest the remaining two other suspects.

FETÖ, known for its secretive methods of communication, utilized everything from in-game chats in mobile games to pay phones to convey messages between its members. ByLock is the most well-known app used by FETÖ members; its use was discovered before the 2016 coup attempt. Authorities deciphered ByLock messages, revealing secret messages pointing to an imminent coup in operations after the putsch bid. The Interior Ministry announced that 4,676 new ByLock users were detected through an investigation that had already identified more than 95,000 users. More than 79,337 people faced legal charges in ByLock investigations.

The Gulenists would not have been any less Islamicist, Dron66046, they just would have individually been better at whatever they were doing. That’s why Recep Tayip Erdogan and Fethullen Gulen were such dear, dear friends for so many years. Mr. Erdogan handled the political side of things, while Mr. Gulen managed the slow march through the institutions.

This is Bolshevik versus Menshevik territory. It still looks like Venezuela in the end.

Vietnam arrests 2 as Northern Irish man charged over UK truck incident
[DAILYSABAH] Police in Vietnam arrested two people and summoned others for questioning Friday on suspicion of involvement in the deaths of 39 people whose bodies were found in the back of a truck in Britannia last week, authorities said.

After 10 Vietnamese families reported their relatives missing, fearing they were among the 39 victims, Ha Tinh regional police launched a criminal investigation into suspected human trafficking, the statement posted on their website said.

Two people have been arrested and others brought in for questioning, it said. The investigation would also look at similar incidents that occurred over the last five years.

Meanwhile,

a Northern Irish man has been charged with multiple counts of manslaughter in relation to the discovery of 39 bodies in a truck near London last week, an Irish broadcaster said Friday.

British police have urged two suspects in the deaths of 39 people found in a truck container last week to turn themselves in.

Essex Police detective Daniel Stoten used a presser in Northern Ireland Friday to urge the two brothers to surrender to police.

Ronan and Christopher Hughes are being sought by police for questioning about possible links to the grim discovery of 39 bodies in a container truck in southeastern England on Oct. 23.

Police say they have already spoke to Ronan Hughes by telephone but want to talk to the two in person.

Crowd trashes cop car in Brooklyn on Halloween, shouts, ‘trick or treat, motherf—rs!’
[NYPOST] Halloween revelers dumped piles of trash on a cop car in Brooklyn, and onlookers shouted, "Trick or treat, motherf‐-rs!" ‐ in the latest incident of disrespect to police, new footage reveals.

The stunning video shows nearly a dozen cardboard boxes and other garbage strewn across the top of a police vehicle parked on a street in Brownsville Thursday, according to police and the footage.

Two officers then begin to yank the boxes down as passersby laugh, shoot cellphone footage and mock them on East 95th Street near Clarkson Avenue, according to the video, which was posted on Facebook Thursday.

"This what happens in the hood. Police get trashed!" a man shooting the video can be heard snickering. "Oh man, look at that."

In the distance, a second onlooker shouts, "Trick or treat, motherf‐-rs!"

Police confirmed that the incident happened Thursday, and said they are investigating what happened.

The cop-trashing comes after months of hostility directed at NYPD officers, including incidents in which brazen young men in Harlem and Brownsville drenched coppers with buckets of water.

#7  Same here. 25-year cycles.
NYC has 25 years of competent rule under Giuliani, Bloomberg and their police commissioners Bratton and Kelly. From 1990-2015, the violent crime rate fell off a cliff. Homicides in NYC fell by 85%.
An EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT DECREASE -- nearly all of it due to Giuliani-Bratton's reforms, including data-driven "Compustat" allocation of beat patrol resources, enforcement against petty thieves and so-called aggressive policing.

All of which the leftist moron De Blasio has thrown out the window.

Which means we're now into the reverse 25-year cycle. Back to Fort Apache, The Bronx.
Back to "Death Wish" subway cars owned by predatory punks and maniacs harassing your neighbor Mr. Goetz.
Graffiti, piss, needles, vermin everywhere: "three-rat days."

Brooklyn pogroms against the Hasidim.
Back to thousands of murders each year.

Poor New Yorkers. You had a good 25-year run, and now the Dark Ages return.

Only 24% of voters bothered to vote in 2013, of which he got 72% of the votes. Turnout in 2017 was even lower; even so, he fell to 67% of the votes. Fortunately for his future reputation, the New York City mayoralty is term-limited, so he can only serve two consecutive terms. If, later, he should run and win again, New Yorkers will deserve what they get.

Michelle Obama: ‘Many’ Around the World Feel Barack Is ‘Their President’
[BREITBART] Former first lady Michelle Obama said Tuesday that her husband, former President Barack Obama
teachable moment...
, could have built his presidential library anywhere in the world because many feel he is "their president."

Obama, speaking at the Obama Foundation Summit at the Illinois Institute of Technology, explained reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
’s Jackson Park was selected as the site for the Obama Presidential Center because it was close to the couple’s former home and situated near her South Side childhood home.

"There’s power in the selection of Jackson Park," the former first lady said. "Barack and I don’t do things incidentally. There’s a strategy."

Obama then argued the library could have even been built outside of the United States.

"Barack’s presidential library could have been anywhere in the world, because there are so many people who feel like he is their president," she stated.

"New York wanted it. Hawaii wants it. Because it’s also an economic engine," she added.

Russian forces unleash big attack on jihadist stronghold, cruise missiles reported
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Armed Forces unleashed a massive attack on the jihadist stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour today, launching both airstrikes and cruise missiles towards this city in western Idlib.

According to reports from western Syria, the Russian Navy fired several missiles towards the jihadist positions in Jisr Al-Shughour, causing a number of explosions that could be heard throughout this district near the Turkish border.

The reports said the Russian military carried out this attack on Jisr Al-Shughour in response to last night’s attack on the Hmeimim (var. Khmeimim) Airbase and the jihadist offensive in northern Latakia.

At the same time, the Syrian Arab Army is also firing artillery and missiles towards the jihadist defenses in this area, as their troops attempt to obstruct the militant supply routes throughout western Idlib.

Syrian Army returns to border cities to prevent militant advance
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army has redeployed several units to the Ottoman Turkish border with al-Hasakah this week after a brief pullback.

According to reports from al-Hasakah, the Syrian Army has returned to their posts in the al-Derghabiyah, Amuda, and al-Malkiyah districts, while also deploying several units of reinforcements to the Tal Tamr front.

The Syrian Army did not transfer any heavy weapons to these fronts, despite the looming threat from the Ottoman Turkish-backed hard boyz who want to expand their territorial influence in northeastern Syria.

At the same time, the Syrian Army is hoping to work out a deal with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that would see their troops join the military.

The primary issue preventing the two sides from merging is the SDF’s insistence that they be allowed to remain in their areas as part of a local defense force. Damascus has not provided these reassurances to the SDF, so the two continue to remain at odds over this.

watchdogs.

Parliament voted in favor of the new law after a marathon debate stretching from Thursday morning until the early hours of Friday.

Conservative Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had promised the overhaul of the asylum procedure after he took over in July, saying that Greece simply cannot cope with tens of thousands of people stuck in the inefficient system.

Addressing Parliament before the vote, Mitsotakis said he wanted a "transparent and functional system" which will protect refugees, but without "opening the gates" to everyone.

"Those who know they do not merit asylum but try to enter and stay in our country will no longer be tolerated," he added.

The start of Mitsotakis' term coincided with a surge in migrant arrivals and the overwhelming of camps set up on Aegean islands to process asylum applications.

Iran appears to have been building up its drone activities and attacks in recent months. In August, Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes in Syria to thwart a planned attack on Israel by Iran-backed fighters using armed drones, the Israel Defense Forces said. The Israeli military said its strike targeted operatives from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force as well as Shiite militias who had been planning on sending "kamikaze" attack drones into Israel armed with explosives.

Israel has vowed to prevent Iran’s regional proxy militias from obtaining advanced weapons to use against the Jewish state and has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria that it says were to prevent delivery of weapons and to stop Iranian military entrenchment in that country.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia's 'sovereign internet' bill comes into force
[DAILYSABAH] The Russian state assumed the power to disconnect the country from the global internet Friday as a controversial law signed by President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
went into effect.

The government intends to create infrastructure for a sovereign internet in what it has presented as a necessary defense against cyberattacks from abroad.

Critics see the measure as a step towards increased censorship.

"This is the first time that the state has full technical control over the internet," Russian internet expert Alexander Isavnin of the anti-censorship organization Roskomsvoboda told German Press Agency (DPA).

Russian internet providers used to operate under free market conditions, but now the Russian state can exert direct control, Isavnin said.

Russian internet traffic is to be directed via hubs within the country, infrastructure for which has yet to be built. Internet providers must install the equipment needed to conduct the transition.

The media rights organization Reporters Without Borders has spoken out about the measure as serving to increase internet censorship and thereby violate fundamental freedoms. Numerous political opposition sites have already been blocked in the country.

The Brussels Court of First Instance said Belgium would start facing a daily fine if the woman was not repatriated in the time it set.

an Union created a common counter-terrorism register in September, hoping to facilitate prosecutions and convictions of suspected hard boyz and people returning home from fighting with Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The move was partly aimed at addressing concerns about the fate of hundreds of EU citizens who fought for Islamic State and are now detained in Iraq and Syria.

Many of them could return to Europe and not face trial because of a lack of evidence against them, a factor that has contributed to unease in several EU countries over returning fighters.

The EU security commissioner, Julian King, told Rooters last month that at least 1,300 EU citizens, more than half children, were held in Syria and Iraq.

Man who advocated caning for adultery gets caned for adultery
[CNN] An Indonesian man has been publicly flogged for adultery, under a draconian law he helped create.

Mukhlis, a member of the Aceh Ulema Council (MPU) in the deeply conservative Aceh province of Indonesia, received 28 lashes in front of a crowd on Thursday after being caught having an affair with a married woman. Like many Indonesians, Mukhlis goes by a single name.

His agency advises the local government on drafting and implementing religious laws.

A video by the AFP news agency shows him grimacing as each strike is delivered onto his back by a masked officer on a stage, in front of a handful of onlookers -- some of whom filmed on their cell phones. The woman with whom he was caught also received a series of lashes.

Aceh, the country's only region to impose Sharia law, uses caning to punish a series of offenses, such as homosexuality, drinking alcohol and having sex outside of marriage.

"We have clarified his identity and we proceeded with the investigation and handed over the dossier to prosecutors, and today we carried out the implementation of the flogging punishment," AFP reported Muhammad Hidayat, the Banda Aceh sharia police chief, as telling news hounds at the caning.

"A lot of things we can learn, but ultimately we have to enforce God's laws, especially on Islamic land like here," Muhammad Ramdan, a Banda Aceh resident, added.

The state's Sharia criminal code went into effect in September 2015, and a number of people have been caned under the laws.

Last year 15 people, including five women, received the punishment for a variety of crimes. Before that, two men were lashed 83 times for homosexuality.

"No matter who you are... if you violate (Islamic) law you will be whipped," Husaini Wahab, the deputy regent of the Aceh Besar municipality, told AFP after the latest caning.

Beto Drops Out Of Race To Spend More Time Taking Guns From His Family (he is really dropping out, though)
[BabylonBee] U.S.—Presidential candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke has announced he is dropping out of the presidential race so that he can spend more time taking guns away from his family. “I’ve been so focused on grabbing the guns of strangers,” O’Rourke told the press, “that I’ve neglected taking away the guns of those closest to me.”

The news was especially upsetting for the millions of AR-15 owners who had just been waiting for a politician to come and free them of their scary burden. “I guess I’m stuck with these,” said gun owner Rex Wells, standing in front of his arsenal of semi-automatic rifles.

Having dropped out of the race, O’Rourke wasted no time in turning his attention to his family, immediately confiscating his children’s super soakers. He then invited himself on his uncle’s hunting trip, though his uncle seemed very wary of that. O’Rourke also asked his nephew Tommy where he kept his Nerf dart guns; Tommy claimed he lost them all in a “tragic boating accident.”

Afghanistan
SIGAR Reports High Number of Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan
[ToloNews] The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan, or SIGAR, reported an all-time high number of civilian casualties for a 3-month period since such fatalities were first recorded in 2009, citing UNAMA numbers.

The report, which was released on Oct. 30, cites the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, and says there were 4,313 casualties in the three-month period, consisting of 1,174 deaths and 3,139 injuries.

Also citing UNAMA, the report stated that this is a 42 percent increase in civilian casualties compared to numbers from the same period last year.

The SIGAR report also drew on numbers by the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

SIGAR quotes RS as saying that Afghanistan experienced 4,554 civilian casualties, a 39% increase in the number of civilian casualties from June 1 through September 30, 2019, compared to the same period last year, reversing the decline reported earlier this year.

There was agreement in some areas between the military and civilian reports.

According to SIGAR report, RS said the increase in civilian casualties was due to a high number of terrorist and murderous Moslem attacks prior to the presidential elections that included the use of improvised bombs (IEDs).

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
SIGAR reports, RS attributed less casualties to pro-government forces.

The report says that the elite Afghan Special Security Forces conducted more operations against the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and other snuffies in January‐September 2019 than in all of 2018. Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
US and Coalition air missions released more munitions in Afghanistan in September 2019 than in any month since October 2010.

According to the report, RS information shows the Taliban increased both its overall and "effective" (casualty-producing) attacks against the ANDSF and Coalition this quarter.

Overall, from January to September, the Taliban were responsible for 3,823 civilian casualties, 46 percent of the total casualties in that time period, according to the report, citing UNAMA.

Improvised bomb (IED) attacks, in particular, spiked in 2019, the report said, citing RS.

During the months of July, August, and September, UNAMA documented an alarming 72% increase in civilian casualties caused by IEDs compared to the same period in 2018, the report stated.

The report comes a month after US President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
called off the peace negotiations with the Taliban.

The U.S. has since begun to wind down its force presence in the country despite the lack of a working peace deal with Taliban forces.

Cyber
Israel’s NSO Group said to hack senior officials in US-allied states on Whatsapp
Dron66046 is on the Indian aspect of the story for us. See here.
[IsraelTimes] Days after messaging app sues firm for alleged cyber-espionage, report says victims of hacking campaign include government and military officials.

Senior officials from some 20 countries that are allied with the United States were reportedly the targets of a hacking campaign by the Israeli firm NSO Group that used the popular WhatsApp messaging service.

Citing people familiar with an internal investigation by the Facebook-owned WhatsApp, Rooters reported Thursday that a "significant" number of the victims were prominent government and military officials.

The report came days after WhatsApp filed a lawsuit in the US against NSO Group, accusing it of using the hugely popular instant messaging platform to conduct cyberespionage on nearly 1,400 journalists, diplomats, dissidents and human right activists worldwide.

The Israeli firm has denied journalists and activists were targeted and said that it only licenses its software to governments for "fighting crime and terror."

According to Rooters, victims of the hacking campaign included people in the United States, Mexico, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Pakistain and India, but it was unclear whether government officials in those countries were affected.

Also Thursday, India demanded answers from WhatsApp over the snooping scandal after coming under fire from critics who accused authorities of using malware installed the messaging service to spy on citizens.

Nearly two dozen activists, lawyers and journalists were targeted in India ‐ WhatsApp’s biggest market with some 400 million active users ‐ according to Indian media reports.

The Indian Express reported WhatsApp confirmed a number of Indian users had been targeted by NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware, which installed itself on their devices and relayed back data to the hackers.

New Delhi has asked WhatsApp to "explain the kind of breach and what it is doing to safeguard the privacy of millions of Indian citizens," Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote on Twitter, denying the government had used the malware to spy on its citizens.

But opposition leaders accused the government of invading citizens’ privacy.

Indian media reports said 20 activists, lawyers and journalists were informed by WhatsApp recently that their phones were compromised for two weeks in May.

On Tuesday, the head of WhatsApp said the lawsuit was filed after an investigation showed NSO Group’s role in the cyberattack, despite its denials.

"NSO Group claims they responsibly serve governments, but we found more than 100 human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
defenders and journalists targeted in an attack last May. This abuse must be stopped," Will Cathcart said on Twitter.

The lawsuit said Pegasus was designed to be remotely installed to hijack devices using the Android, iOS, and BlackBerry operating systems.

The complaint said the attackers "reverse-engineered the WhatsApp app and developed a program to enable them to emulate legitimate WhatsApp network traffic in order to transmit malicious code" to take over the devices.

The suit calls on the court to order NSO Group to stop any such attacks and asks for unspecified damages.

NSO Group came to prominence in 2016 when researchers accused it of helping spy on an activist in the United Arab Emirates.

Its best-known product is Pegasus, a highly invasive tool that can reportedly switch on a target’s phone camera and microphone, and access data on it.

Danna Ingleton of Amnesia Amnesty International said the results of the WhatsApp investigation "underscore that NSO Group continues to profit from its spyware products being used to intimidate, track, and punish scores of human rights defenders across the globe, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Mexico."

Ingleton said Amnesty and other groups are seeking in the Israeli courts to block NSO from exporting the technology.

#5  People only call it malware because it's invasive. It doesn't really steal data for nefarious purposes. It think there should be another name... sniffware or something ? It just lets us know if something dastardly is up.

And mind you, the authorities are rather liberal and tolerant. They won't arrest people or beat them up for just talking. That is only logged, for later use in a trial or request for warrants. No, we 'fascists' will only act when 'the bombs are in the car', 'the comrades are on the way', or 'the package has been delivered.'

Mom Tara noticed the toddler had fallen behind and was coughing, so she rifled through her candy stash ‐ and found that the "lollies" she was eating were actually pills with writing on them in a plastic bag.

Two of Hitler's Soldiers Proved How Deadly a Sniper Can Be in Any War
[The National Interest - Warfare History Network] Allerberger, already a successful sniper, was assigned in the last quarter of 1943 to a four-week training program near Judenburg, Austria, not far from his home. That was done with a wink and a nod from his commanding officer because it would give the young sniper a needed break from the killing and mayhem on the Eastern Front. He was often called upon by the instructors in sniper school to share his experiences. Many of the instructors had also served in that capacity on the Eastern Front. For his part, Allerberger was surprised by the school’s "shooting garden," a miniature landscape complete with a village and roads where they had to shoot the "enemy" with small caliber sporting guns as they appeared in windows, doorways, and behind trees. Because of his frontline experience, he shined at those exercises. Throughout the training, the instructors revised and rebuilt the landscapes to make them more interesting and challenging.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
After Israeli plea, US cutting $105 million in military aid to Lebanon — report
[IsraelTimes] Reported decision by State Department comes day after Israeli officials said diplomats had asked allies to condition funds on action against Hezbollah missile program.

The State Department informed Congress Thursday of its decision to withhold the aid, Rooters reported.

No reason was given for the move, which came as the country has been rocked by weeks of anti-government protests that have pushed prime minister Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
from office and raised questions about the political future of Leb.

On Wednesday, Israeli officials said they had asked allies to condition any aid to Leb on efforts to get rid of advanced arms stationed there.

"In discreet talks with various capitals, we made it clear that any aid meant to guarantee the stability of Leb needs to be conditioned on Leb dealing with Hezbollah’s precision-guided missiles," a bigwig said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
. "Anything short of that will be problematic, in our eyes."

The Trump administration has levied a series of sanctions on Hezbollah, which maintains its own militia. At the same time, it had sought approval for military aid to Beirut as a means of strengthening the army there as a bulwark against the Iran-backed group and regional instability.

One US official cited by Rooters said the US decision could lead to Russia stepping in and expanding its regional influence.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel advances 2,342 settler homes, capping off record year under Trump
[IsraelTimes] Majority of units to be constructed deep in West Bank; projects approved for Jordan Valley outpost legalized by cabinet and town hit by terror attack.
Consequences. None of this would be happening if the Palestinians had signed a peace treaty with Israel back when Bill Clinton was president. Or George W. Bush or Barack H. Obama. But President Trump doesn’t care, and the odds are good he will be in office for another four years.
The Civil Administration’s High Planning Subcommittee ‐ the Defense Ministry body responsible for authorizing settlement construction ‐ published on Thursday the protocol from a meeting it held earlier this month when it made the approvals.

The quarterly session was the last held during the 2019 calendar year, during which plans for 8,337 homes were advanced ‐ the most since 2013. Each of Trump’s nearly three years in office saw an increase in settlement approvals, with 6,742 green-lit in 2017 and 5,618 advanced in 2018.

Under unofficial settlement guidelines coordinated with the White House when Trump took office, Israel agreed that the Civil Administration committee would meet once every three months instead of once every month.

Breaking from its predecessors, the Trump administration has avoided criticizing settlement construction. Outgoing peace envoy Jason Greenblatt said he refers to Israeli localities over the Green Line as "neighborhoods and cities," while US Ambassador David Friedman has said he does not see anything wrong with Israel maintaining control over parts of the West Bank.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
both have stated that Israel should hold off on annexation plans for the time being while Washington is gearing up to introduce the political portion of its peace plan, which is expected to face further delays with an end to the political deadlock in Israel nowhere in sight.

Russian Tu-160 Bombers Touch Down In South Africa In Historic First-Ever African Visit
[War Zone] Two Russian Tu-160 Blackjack bombers touched down today at South African Air Force Base Waterkloof in the country's capital Pretoria, marking the first time these bombers have made a visit to anywhere in Africa. This comes on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the first-ever Russia Africa Summit in Sochi on the Black Sea and as the Kremlin has been working to expand its influence across the continent.

#1  SABC News - Nothing to be concerned about

“Russia and SA have long had dealings at a military level, we do exchange a number of activities. They are huge planes and the good thing is that as much as they are huge bombers, nuclear bombers, they are not armed. We should never worry because our air force people went in and looked at these planes and the technology they have and carry and it’s something that is good. We should never look at the negative side of it,” explains Ramaphosa.
