#2  Hell, a couple dozen innocents either way don't matter. They were asking for it! They were being used as human shields! This makes it OK for us to murder them.

Certainly this operation will lead us to victory. 17 years of war and it's all led up to this. We're going to win, and soon.

#3  What do you mean 'us', kemosabe? It's right there in the fucking first line who carried this operation out, and it wasn't 'us'. You seem to have this obsession about blaming 'us' for a lot of negative things that happened around the world.

#4  Relax, Herb. No American hands dirtied. Afghan on Afghan this time. You'll pull out soon, leaving the Afghans to the mercy of the Khorasan and the Talibs. Not to mention ol' friend Pakistain.

You cannot save the muslim from violent death. It's the nature of the thing he/she is born in. All one can do is protect ones allies and endeavour to keep the worst ones from gaining power.

I agree the adventurist policies of the US backed by the military-industrial complex have brought mostly misery to this part of the world, but a wimp-out at this stage causes more problems than decades of arming fundamentalist militia against 'the commies' ever did.

AOC Disappointed To Learn The 'Free Market' Isn't A Grocery Store Where You Don't Have To Pay For Anything
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has struggled to get by on her new six-figure salary, given the high cost of living in her luxurious Washington, D.C. crib.

So when she heard in passing that the United States has a "free market" economy, she was ecstatic. She immediately set out in an Uber to try to find one of the free markets, assuming they were grocery stores where you don't have to pay for anything.

"I'm really, like really excited," she said on a live Instagram video. "I thought the U.S. was all about oppressive capitalistic systems of inequality, but when I heard about these free markets, I realized we were in better shape than I had thought."

However, after her Uber had driven her all over the city for several hours, she hadn't found a single free market anywhere and had to settle for going to some stores where people are free to buy, sell, and exchange goods and services with one another.

British ex-spy will not talk to U.S. prosecutor examining Trump probe origins
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The former British spy who produced a dossier describing alleged links between Donald Trump and Russia will not cooperate with a prosecutor assigned by U.S. Attorney General William Barr to review how the investigations of Trump and his 2016 election campaign began, a source with knowledge of the situation said.

Christopher Steele, a former Russia expert for the British spy agency MI6, will not answer questions from prosecutor John Durham, named by Barr to examine the origins of the investigations into Trump and his campaign team, said the source close to Steele’s London-based private investigation firm, Orbis Business Intelligence.

Trump has given Barr broad authority to declassify intelligence materials related to the investigations. Last week Trump ordered the heads of U.S. spy and law enforcement agencies to cooperate with Durham.

Steele, who had previously collaborated with the FBI on issues such as corruption in the global soccer organization FIFA, was hired in 2016 by Fusion GPS, a Washington-based private investigations firm working for lawyers representing the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Steele produced for Fusion GPS a set of controversial and sometimes salacious reports describing alleged contacts Trump and his team had with Russians before the election.

#10  While we all watch the ball on Russia and the collusion our constitutional right have been removed. We are no longer a Republic. This is a train wreck of constitutional crisis that in a few months will be too late to fix, by 2020 at least. When the blue states conspired to vote and give their electors to the popular vote, they have, in essence conspired to change our constitution from Republic to a full democracy. The smaller states are now cut out of their right for a fair election. Our constitutional right to vote has been removed. Why vote when the vote will go to six counties in New York. When you look at the demographic of the last election, and apply this new action buy states, New York will be the only state that needs to vote. This whole process needs to get in front of the supreme court for a constitutional look. The argument I have heard here is we elected our state leaders and they changed it so its on us. Not true, no representative, state or otherwise, can take our god given rights away. This needs to be resolved or the next election will never get resolved and we will have a real problem on our hands...

#12  We have a real problem on our hands now. The deep state and the dems have a number of projects in progress for fixing the outcomes of any so called election.

  • Popular vote by the back door, not amending the constitution;

  • Putting so called green initiatives through the states one by one

  • Going for impeachment in the House in an effort to tie up the President

  • Cherry picking judges to prevent any action for control of the border

  • Having the Speaker of the House let the islamic radical house members have their agenda pushed forward

  • Dems fighting any ID necessary in voting

And a whole lot more. They are at war with our constitution and our Republic. They are the enemy, just like ISIS and alQ.

From Colombia, Venezuelan defectors arm themselves to 'liberate' their homeland
CUCUTA, Colombia (Reuters) - Wearing camouflage shirts and combat boots, a Venezuelan militia group stands in formation in the Colombian city of Cucuta as their commander, a former Venezuelan army sergeant, outlines plans to seize towns across the border before heading to Caracas to help oust President Nicolas Maduro.

Eight men, who said they were defectors from Venezuelan police, army and intelligence services, had gathered near the two nations’ tense frontier, from where they said they will lead an attack aimed at overthrowing Maduro and handing the reins of power to opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Dubbing their planned offensive "Operation Venezuela," the ex-army sergeant, Eddier Rodriguez, said there were around 150 men ready to take part with his group. Reuters was unable to independently confirm the status of the eight men or the size of the militia.

"Our goal is to liberate the country," said Rodriguez, 37, who said he is currently working as a security guard in Bogota. "We’re troops willing to give our lives if necessary, all 150 of us."

The Venezuelan defense ministry and the information ministry - which handles media enquiries for the government - did not respond to a request for comment about the formation of militias in Colombia.

Victor Bautista, border director for Colombia’s foreign ministry, said any groups who actually took up arms would be considered a paramilitary organization and would be detained by authorities if they were found.

Biden Praises 10-Year-Old Girl as ‘Good Looking' and Holds Her Shoulders
[Breitbart] Former Vice President Joe Biden cozied up to a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday, despite his promise to control his personal interactions with women and children.

"I’ll bet you’re as bright as you are good-looking," Biden said to a girl who asked him a question at an American Federation of Teachers town hall in Houston, Texas.

He exclaimed when the girl told him that she wanted to be a journalist, and led her over to meet the reporters in the room.

As he introduced the child to the press, he leaned over and spoke in her ear, before finishing his speech.

#6  When our naval personnel used to tour each other's ships, the US sailors noticed something very wrong with the Chinese ships. They didn't know how to do damage control. The design was poor at keeping water out of other areas and the "disaster control crews" were usually the worst of the worst on that ship and no other Chinese sailor wanted to do the job.

In the US Navy, EVERYONE is trained in damage control and can do it at any time. Past battles showed how crucial it was and the US learned it through the loss of lives and ships.

If a Chinese ship is hit, they will rapidly sink as there is no idea in the Chinese navy how to save it.

Two years later, the study’s assertion apparently proved true as LCSs started breaking down at sea.

Netflix Executive: ‘We'd Rethink Our Entire Investment in Georgia' If Heartbeat Bill Upheld
[Free Beacon] Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer for Netflix, stated the video streaming company may consider pulling out production from the state of Georgia if the recently signed heartbeat bill is upheld in federal courts.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R.) signed the legislation, which would prohibit abortions in the state once a heartbeat is detected, in early May. The law, described as one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, has attracted the attention and protests of the entertainment industry as the state has emerged as a large hub for the entertainment industry creating almost 100,000 jobs and generating nearly $3 billion in revenue.

"We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law," Sarandos said in a statement first reported by Variety over the weekend.

While numerous other production companies have deferred on publicly weighing in on the law while it is litigated through the courts, Sarandos told Variety that Netflix will work with the A.C.L.U. to fight the law in court battles.

Sarandos indicated the company will continue to operate in the state as the law is not scheduled to come into effect until January 2020 but said the company could revise its decision if courts hold up the constitutionality of the legislation.

"Should it ever come into effect, we'd rethink our entire investment in Georgia," Sarandos added.

Sarandos has a long history supporting Democratic candidates and causes. In 2012, The Hollywood Reporter described him and his wife as "Obama's $500,000 Power Couple." The couple raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. Sarandos is married to Nicole Avant who served as President Obama’s ambassador to the Bahamas from 2009 to 2011.

The close relationship with the former president helped Sarandos sign the former first couple to an exclusive production deal with the streaming company according to reporting from the New York Post.

The deal, announced last May, is worth an estimated $50 million dollars for the Obamas and will allow them to produce television shows and movies over a multiyear period.

Justice Thomas Issues Fiery Condemnation of Eugenic Abortion
[Free Beacon] The Supreme Court on Tuesday avoided hearing a lawsuit about two Indiana abortion regulations, one of which prompted a lengthy attack on eugenic abortion from Justice Clarence Thomas.

The case in question was Box v. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, first brought before the court by the state of Indiana last October. It concerned two requirements of HEA 1337, which mandated that "fetal remains" be disposed of as one would other human remains (instead of medical waste), and prohibited abortions solely on the basis of the child's sex, race, or disability status.

The Indiana-area Planned Parenthood affiliate sued, claiming that the two laws violated a woman's right to an abortion under current precedent. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals agreed, but Indiana appealed to the Supreme Court, perhaps hoping for a now more-conservative bench's first ruling on abortion.

These hopes were to be dashed. In its Tuesday per curiam (i.e., unanimous or mostly unanimous) decision, the court summarily reversed the Seventh Circuit on the question of fetal remains, but neatly dodged having to grapple with whether or not such laws infringe on a woman's right to an abortion.

Under current precedent, the right to an abortion is protected from any "undue burden" prior to the point of viability. However, Planned Parenthood did not argue during previous hearings that the fetal remains law represented an undue burden, instead claiming that the law was not rationally related to government interests. Because the Supreme Court had previously ruled that a state has a "legitimate interest in proper disposal of fetal remains," this argument was summarily rejected.

22 Released from 'Islamic State Kidnapping' in DR Congo
[AnNahar] Twenty-two people who were kidnapped in eastern DR Congo last week in a raid claimed by Islamic State

have been released by their abductors, local sources said Tuesday.

"There are 22 (released) people in all -- 16 men, five women and a little girl," the government's administrator for Beni in North Kivu province, Donat Kibwana, told AFP.

"They were kidnapped in Samboko-Tchani Tchani in last week's attack."

One of those released AFP that the kidnappers freed the 22 after a three-day march following last Thursday's raid.

They were still holding six people, including five members of the same family, he said.

He said the kidnappers were physically different from local people and "speak good Swahili, like in East Africa (Tanzania)... and another language that I couldn't identify."

According to the SITE Intelligence group, the Islamic State group grabbed credit for the attack on "Chianchiani" and on another village, Kumbwa in Kamango.

They said they had attacked Congolese military bases.

Kibwana, in his initial account of the incident last Thursday, said 10 people had been kidnapped.

AFP could not immediately verify the claim by the so-called Islamic State jihadist group.

Last month, the group for the first time claimed to be behind an attack on a Congolese army position in North Kivu province.

Another Islamist-rooted organization, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) -- forced out of Uganda in the mid 1990s -- is regularly accused by the authorities of attacking army positions in North Kivu.

The ADF has also been implicated in attacks on civilians, notably a 2014 massacre in Beni that killed hundreds of people, as well as kidnappings.

are being held by Kurds or detained in refugee camps in northeastern Syria, the French foreign minister said Tuesday.

"In the northeastern zone of Syria, we think that there are between 400 and 450 French people, some in camps, others held as prisoners, including children," Jean-Yves Le Drian told parliament's foreign affairs committee.

He said only the children could be repatriated if they were orphans or if their mothers gave permission.

La Belle France has long insisted that its adult citizens captured in Iraq or Syria must face trial locally, refusing to repatriate them despite the risk they could receive death sentences.

"Our position is still the same and we will not shift: fighters must be judged where they have committed crimes," Le Drain said.

A Baghdad court sentenced two more Frenchies to death Tuesday for joining the Islamic State jihadist group, raising the number of French IS members on death row in Iraq to six.

Since March Gay Paree has repatriated just five orphans and a three-year-old girl whose mother was sentenced to life in prison in Iraq.

Le Drian said that more than 100 French fighters were still present in Idlib, the last jihadist stronghold in Syria's northwest which is being relentlessly bombed by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

He said the area was a "real time bomb" with about "30,000" rebel and jihadist fighters holed up there and evoked the threat of an influx of refugees from this region to Europe.

group to death, bringing the total number of French former jihadis condemned to death this week to six.

The men sentenced to death Tuesday were identified as Karam Salam Mohammed El-Harchaoui and Brahim Ali Mansour Nejara. They are among a group of 12 French citizens who were detained by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in neighboring Syria and handed over to Iraq in January. The Kurdish-led group spearheaded the fight against IS in Syria and has handed over to Iraq hundreds of suspected IS members in recent months.
An Nahar adds:
Brahim Nejara and Karam El Harchaoui, both in their 30s, were among 12 French citizens transferred to Iraqi authorities in January by a US-backed force fighting the jihadist group in Syria.

Nejara, 33, was involved in IS's foreign fighter operations, according to the French Terrorism Analysis Center.

He allegedly helped imported muscle join IS in Syria, persuaded one of his brothers to commit an attack in La Belle France, and was associated with Foued Mohammed-Aggad, one of the jacket wallahs at the Bataclan theatre during the 2015 Gay Paree attacks.

Harchaoui, 32, left for Syria in 2014 from Belgium. According to Belgian daily HLN, his younger brother and their Belgian wives were also IS members.

They have 30 days to appeal.

The remaining six face trial in the coming days under a law that allows capital punishment for anyone joining a "terrorist group" -- even those who did not take up arms.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Pregnant Woman Is Not a ‘Mother'
[Breitbart] Celebrated liberal U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg argued in an opinion released Tuesday that a pregnant woman is not a "mother."

"[A] woman who exercises her constitutionally protected right to terminate a pregnancy is not a ’mother’," Ginsburg wrote in a footnote, which in turn responded to another footnote in the 20-page concurring opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas in the Box v. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky Inc. case.

As Breitbart News’ legal editor Ken Klukowski reported, the case concerned a law signed by then-Governor (now Vice President) Mike Pence of Indiana in 2016, which required that the remains of an aborted fetus (or baby) be disposed of by cremation or burial. The law also prohibited abortion on the basis of sex, race, or disability alone.

The Court upheld the first part of the law, but declined to consider the selective-abortion ban until more appellate courts had ruled on it.

In his lengthy opinion ‐ which delighted pro-life advocates, and distressed pro-choice activists ‐ Thomas wrote that "this law and other laws like it promote a State’s compelling interest in preventing abortion from becoming a tool of modern-day eugenics." He traced the racist and eugenicist beliefs of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, and warned that the Court would one day need to wrestle with abortion as form of racial discrimination.

Turkish military launches operation against Kurdish militants in northern Iraq
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's military launched an operation with commandos, backed by artillery and air strikes, against Kurdish murderous Moslems in northern Iraq, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.

The military action began with artillery and air strikes on Monday afternoon and the operation by commando brigades began at 8 pm (1700 GMT) to "neutralise bandidos murderous Moslems and destroy their shelters" in an area across the border from Turkey's most southeastern region, the ministry said in a statement.

Massive Turkish op against PKK draws attention of President Erdogan Tuesday

[Rudaw] In widely publicized operations on Tuesday, the Turkish military targeted Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in the northern reaches of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, spreading fear among locals.

"Intense bombings started at 8 a.m. and lasted until 1 p.m. sparking fear among locals," Ihsan Chalabi, the mayor of Sidakan, told Rudaw on Tuesday.

The operation, dubbed 'Operation Claw' by the Turkish military, utilized fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, artillery, and ground forces. It centered on Mount Khakurk in the northern parts of Erbil province. Sidakan is 90 kilometers northeast of Erbil in Soran district.

Turkish forces gained control of high points above Khalifan village, Shakiw mountain, and Gulasew peak on Tuesday. Previously, the PKK and Turkish forces have clashed for control of the areas.

"The sound of the bombardments were felt and heard by people inside Soran and Rawanduz towns, as well," he said, referring to areas to the east in Erbil province.

He added in addition to Khakurk, other areas like Lolan and Sinan also came under intense artillery fire.

Khakurk is about 30-40 kilometers south of the border with Turkey near Derecik district in Hakkari province, where the PKK and Turkey have been actively clashing.

The armed wing of the PKK, the Kurdistan Defense Forces (HPG), confirmed the Turkish incursion into "the Martyr Darwesh and Shakif areas of Khakurk in Southern Kurdistan with warplanes and helicopters at 23:00 on Monday..."

The HPG claimed Turkish media is trying to spread "lies and fake news to show that the operation is great."

Additionally, the HPG announced on Tuesday they targeted Turkish military vehicles in Basan, an area in Turkey's Igdir province. The Kurdish guerillas claimed they killed five Turkish soldiers and injured "a great number" more.

No side immediately reported its own casualties from the operations which began on Monday, and the Sidakan mayor told Rudaw English later on Tuesday that he was not aware of any casualties.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who rarely mentions specific operations against the PKK, "wished victory" for his "brave soldiers" involved in the attack.

He described the operation in a tweet as "a challenging operation against PKK fighters on Iraq-Turkey borders."

The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that within the framework of Operation Claw their land and aerial forces launched an operation in the Kurdistan Region against PKK forces using Turkish commandos.

"The operation continues with the support of ATK helicopters as planned," it stated.

Separately, the ministry claimed it "neutralized" nine "PKK terrorists" during the operation. Ankara uses the word to refer to those killed, wounded, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

It tweeted the operation "continues successfully despite bad weather and rugged areas."

In another rare display, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and other top generals personally commanded the operation from a war room, according to the ministry.

Turkey regularly carries out airstrikes and military offensives against alleged PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region.

The PKK, a banned political party in Turkey, is headquartered in the mountains of Qandil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq near the borders of Turkey and Iran.

Its jailed leader and co-founder, Abdullah Ocalan, has released two rare and somewhat cryptic statements this month through his lawyers.

Ocalan hadn't had legal counsel visitations since 2011, leading some to believe he is pursuing a softer struggle against the Turkish state for the party.

At least 4,356 people have been killed in clashes or attacks on both sides since July 20, 2015, according to the International Crisis Group (ICG).

An order imposing Section 144, issued by Nauman Afzal Afridi, the deputy commissioner of South Waziristan tribal district, came into effect on Monday immediately for a month.

The order stated that reports were received that "certain elements are resorting to objectionable, prejudicial, hate speeches against the state institutions in public gatherings, assemblies and processions which are likely to disturb the public peace and law and order situation" of the area.

Two dead, including schoolgirl, after Japan mass stabbing
[DAWN] A knife-wielding attacker killed a 12-year-old schoolgirl and a man before stabbing himself to death in a rampage outside Tokyo Tuesday that also injured more than a dozen, including several children.

The mass stabbing in the town of Kawasaki, south of the Japanese capital, was a rare attack in a country with one of the lowest rates of violent crime in the developed world, and there was no immediate detail on the suspect's motive.

Kiyoshi Matsuda, deputy director of the Nippon Medical School Musashi Kosugi Hospital, told news hounds that the 12-year-old schoolgirl and a 39-year-old man had gave up the ghost.

Local media reported that the suspected attacker, a man in his 50s, had also died of his wounds after turning the knife on himself. Emergency services said at least 16 others had been injured in the attack.

"It is a very harrowing case. I feel strong anger," Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in televised remarks. "I offer my heartfelt condolences to the victims and hope the injured recover quickly."

According to local media, eyewitnesses saw a middle-aged man clasping a knife near the bus stop where the children were waiting, shouting "I will kill you".

A local man living nearby, who identified himself as Matsumoto, 25, said he went outside after hearing screams.

"It's hard to describe what it was like, how it sounded. It wasn't girls having fun, it was a sound that was absolutely not normal," he told AFP.

"I saw a man lying on the street. I also saw a girl hunched over on the ground. There were also five or six girls, maybe they were the ones who screamed... There was blood all over them."

'PRAYERS AND SYMPATHY'
The attack occurred during the busy early morning commute as workers headed to their offices and children to school. Fire department officials said they received the first emergency calls shortly before 8:00 am local time (2300 GMT Monday).

The scene of the attack was still swarming with emergency personnel hours later, with three police vans parked around the spot to block it from view.

Emergency workers set up an orange medical tent to treat the maimed, and ambulances and fire engines were parked nearby.

A white school bus with blue stripes was parked at the site, with the name "Caritas Gakuen (school)" written on the side, said an AFP correspondent at the scene.

The bloodshed came as Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
wrapped up a state visit to Japan, and the US president offered his "prayers and sympathy" to the victims as he met troops outside Tokyo.

Standing aboard a Japanese military ship, he said that "all Americans stand with the people of Japan and grieve for the victims and for their families".

A local resident, who declined to give his name, said children attending the Caritas school lined up for the bus at the site every day.

"If you live in this neighbourhood, everybody knows that these kids are there," the 66-year-old told AFP. "I've been in this area for a long time, I cannot believe that somebody targeted this bus and targeted these small children."

'SERIOUS INJURIES'
An official at the St Marianna University School of Medicine said a "woman in her forties and three girls... suffered serious injuries." "They will go through surgery for the injuries, mainly to their heads and necks. After that, they will be transferred to the ICU," said Takehito Otsubo, the hospital's assistant director.

Police earlier told AFP one suspect were tossed into the calaboose and an eyewitness told local media that the man had stabbed himself.

"I saw a man holding a knife... I couldn't see clearly, but he apparently stabbed himself in the neck," one eyewitness told NHK.

The broadcaster said two knives were spotted at the scene, but there was no immediate confirmation. Violent crime is extremely rare in Japan, and children often travel to and from schools alone.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Joe DiGenova blows the lid off the real scandal: The Russia hoax was a cover-up effort for Obama's political spying since 2012
[American Thinker] Hold on to your hats. At last, we are on the verge of getting to the bottom of the weaponization of the nation's top law enforcement and spy agencies to spy on political opponents, and it is far bigger than obtaining bogus FISA Court warrants to spy on Carter Page. Barack Obama's minions have been spying on his political opponents since before his 2012 re-election, and the entire Russiagate hoax was an effort to cover up that ongoing spying.

As I have stated before, the best sources for understanding the unfolding of the biggest political scandal in American history are D.C. super-lawyers Joe DiGenova and Victoria Toensing, who have an unmatched track record in explaining the events we see in the media and predicting the forthcoming revelations. I am not in communication with them, but it does appear they have superb sources ‐ which would not be surprising, given their long history as key conservative players at the highest level of the D.C. legal and political circles.

Yesterday, Joe DiGenova made his customary Monday-morning guest appearance on WMAL radio's Mornings on the Mall radio show. (WMAL is the premier conservative talk station in D.C.). The 15-minute segment is jam-packed with must-listen insights. In addition to his revelations about the true nature of the Russiagate hoax, there is another quiet bombshell he dropped ‐ see the end of this blog post for the tantalizing perspective he revealed. You can listen on the YouTube version here.

The basic story is that Admiral Mike Rogers, who was head of the NSA in the spring of 2016, discovered that the NSA's comprehensive database collecting all electronic communications in the United States was being searched by unauthorized FBI "contractors" and moved to cut off that access. He also visited Donald Trump, after which Trump moved his campaign HQ out of Trump Tower. Trump's much derided claim that his campaign was "wiretapped" likely also was the result of gaining this insight from Admiral Rogers.
Joe and Victoria apparently follow the Burg. My emphasis added.

In a message the Taliban have not altered since talks with the US started last autumn, Taliban co-founder and political leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said the hard boyz want an end to 18 years of conflict ‐ but would only sign a deal after foreign forces quit Afghanistan.

The Taliban are "really committed to peace, but think the obstacle for peace should be removed first", Baradar said in a rare televised appearance at the start of the two-day meeting marking 100 years of diplomatic ties between Russia and Afghanistan.

"The obstacle is the occupation of Afghanistan, and that should end," Baradar added.

Questions Remain After Israel Strikes Syrian Air-Defense System
[Jpost] Why did an antiquated Syrian air defense system fire at an Israeli jet?

Israel said a Syrian anti-aircraft system fired at an IDF fighter jet on Monday night. Israel responded by targeting the launcher that had shot at the plane. This is the very simple and clear statement that was released. It also said the Israeli jet that had been fired upon was on a routine flight in northern Israel.

Syrian sources have reported the launcher which was hit ‐ somewhere in the Khan Arnabeh and Quneitra area ‐ was a Syrian ZSU-34-4 Shilka and the soldiers manning it were from the 121st brigade of the Syrian army. The main difference between the various Shilka models is the size of the guns on it, or caliber. For instance, the ZSU-23-4 Shilka, which entered service in 1962, had four 23 mm. auto-cannons with radar guidance.

Lyon Bomb Suspect Mohamed Hichem M. Alleged Illegal Immigrant
[Breitbart] French media reports that the suspect in the Lyon, La Belle France, package bombing is an undocumented Democrat from Algeria.

Police incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
Mohammed Hickem M., 24, on Monday on suspicion of being the perpetrator behind the suspected parcel kaboom in Lyon, La Belle France’s third most populous city, on Friday which resulted in 13 people being injured.

Sources speaking to franceinfo have said that even after a day in jug, the suspect believed to be "the man on a bike" who left in a paper bag filled with explosives outside of a bakery in downtown Lyon is not cooperating with police. Authorities confirmed that his parents, brother, and sister were also brought in for questioning.

The insiders added that DNA evidence from the scene has been linked to the suspect, while sources speaking to Le Gay Pareeien said that a search of the family home of Oullins, in Rhône, south-west of Lyon, uncovered the chemical elements used in the composition of TATP, the explosive substance identified in analysis of the bomb.

Interior minister Christophe Castaner told CNEWS that he was in "no doubt" that the person arrested was the author of the attack and that he "certainly" intended to kill.

Reportedly unknown to police, authorities have said that on initial investigation, Mohammed Hickem M. does not fit the Islamist terrorist profile, and authorities say they are still unclear of his motive, with a source telling media that "no element related to radical Islam has been discovered at this stage".

Le Gay Pareeien reports that the suspect was born in Oran, Algeria, in 1995, and he had described himself as a computer programmer on LinkedIn. Mohammed Hickem M. had travelled to La Belle France to live with his family two years ago, with Mr Castaner confirming: "He had short-stay visas and then applied for a student visa to enter a school."

A local Lyon technical college confirmed that he was not a student, stating that his application had been rejected in 2017 after the French consolate in Oran rejected his student visa application. According to information obtained by franceinfo, his temporary visas had expired and he had been living illegally in the country since 2018.

The suspect had also been working at the Ampère de Lyon high school, where pupils describe him as "a very kind supervisor, close to students, who laughed easily".

The device, according to Sherlocks, was sophisticated in its wiring but "the charge was too small to kill" and it had been a "relatively weak explosive charge". Crime scene Sherlocks were able to recover a number of items from the kaboom, including pieces of wiring, batteries, and a remote-controlled trigger device ‐ as well as the ball bearings and screws the bomb had to been packed with to cause injury and death to French bystanders.

Due to the lack of force of the bomb, no one was killed; the youngest casualty was an eight-year-old girl, who suffered superficial injuries.

Australian Terrorist Planned To Kill Kippah-Wearing Jewish Students
[Jpost] "I was planning on using it on Jewish students in the university to kill them. Just people wearing the Jewish head gear, the kippah," Ihsas Khan said.

He stabbed his neighbor in 2016, but the knife he used was bought with the intention "to kill Jewish university students."

Ihsas Khan, a terrorist who stabbed a man in Sydney’s south-west planned to kill the students in what he called a "Dire Revenge" attack for the way Paleostinians are treated, The Australian Jewish News reported.

Khan took the witness stand during a sentencing hearing last week in which the local paper reported him as saying, "I was planning on using it on Jewish students in the university to kill them. Just people wearing the Jewish head gear, the kippah,"

"I was filled with hatred," he said. "It was Dire Revenge for what was happening in Paleostine."

He also reportedly told the court during his trial that he wanted to be "a martyr."

Khan was found guilty by a jury earlier this month of committing an act of terrorism against his neighbor, grandfather Wayne Greenhalgh, whom he attacked while Greenhalgh was in his driveway. Khan is facing life in jail.

After Khan was jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!

Poland to buy 32 F-35 jets to replace Soviet-era fleet
[ALMASDARNEWS] Poland plans to buy 32 Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters to replace Soviet-era jets, Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Tuesday, amid the growing assertiveness of neighbour Russia.

"Today we sent a request for quotation (LOR) to our American partners regarding the purchase of 32 F-35A aircraft along with a logistics and training package," Blaszczak tweeted.

The United States is expected to expand sales of F-35 fighters to five nations including Poland as European allies bulk up their defences in the face of a strengthening Russia, the Pentagon said last month.

Poland is among NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
member countries that spend at least 2% of GDP on defence. Warsaw agreed in 2017 to raise defence spending gradually from 2% to 2.5% of GDP, meaning annual spending should nearly double to about 80 billion zlotys (16.5 billion pounds) by 2032.

U.S. arms sales to foreign governments rose 13 percent to $192.3 billion in the year ended Sept. 30, the U.S. State Department said in November. F-35A fighters are estimated to cost $85 million each.

During a televised statement on Tuesday, Blaszczak also said Poland was making progress in convincing the United States to increase its military presence on Polish soil.

U.S. Military Says Kills 3 Militants In Northern Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] The United States military said Monday it conducted an Arclight airstrike on al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
in northern Somalia on Sunday, killing three bully boys.

The U.S. Africa Command (Africom), which oversees American troops on the African continent, said the latest strike, conducted in cooperation with Somali government forces, targeted Lions of Islam in the Golis Mountains.

"Currently, we assess no civilians were maimed or killed as a result of this airstrike," Africom said in a statement. "Our process and procedures allow for additional information to inform the post-strike analysis."

Sunday’s strike was the sixth the U.S. army has executed this month in the Golis Mountains, an area known for terrorist camps.

A Foreign Navy Screwed Up Its New $3 Billion Nuclear Missile Sub By Leaving Its Hatch Open
The modern submarine is not a simple machine. A loss of propulsion, unexpected flooding, or trouble with reactors or weapons can doom a sub crew to a watery grave.

Also, it’s a good idea to, like, close the hatches before you dive.

Call it a lesson learned for the Indian navy, which managed to put the country’s first nuclear-missile submarine, the $2.9 billion INS Arihant, out of commission in the most boneheaded way possible.

The Hindu reported yesterday that the Arihant has been out of commission since suffering “major damage” some 10 months ago, due to what a navy source characterized as a “human error” — to wit: allowing water to flood to sub’s propulsion compartment after failing to secure one of the vessel’s external hatches.

Water “rushed in as a hatch on the rear side was left open by mistake while [the Arihant] was at harbor” in February 2017, shortly after the submarine’s launch, The Hindu reports. Since then, the sub “has been undergoing repairs and clean up,” according to the paper: “Besides other repair work, many pipes had to be cut open and replaced.”

France has 'indication' of chemical attack in Syria
[DAWN] La Belle France's top diplomat said on Tuesday that the country had an "indication" that a chemical attack had been carried out in Syria's Idlib province this month, an attack alleged by Washington last week.

"We have an indication that chemical weapons were used in the Idlib region, but for now it has not been verified," Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told a parliamentary commission.

"We're being cautious because we consider that chemical weapons use has to be proven and be lethal, in which case we can react," he said.

'Hamas Fired More Than One Anti-Tank Missile During Last Round Of Fighting'
[Jpost] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, fired more than one anti-tank missile toward Israeli civilians during the last round of fighting between the two, the head of the IDF’s Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Hertzi Halevy said on Tuesday.

Only one of the anti-tank missiles struck a target, said Halevy, who was speaking at the third international law conference in Herzliya, adding that the Kornet anti-tank missile that killed Moshe Feder near Kibbutz Erez earlier in May was fired from a multi-story residential building in Beit Hanun in the northern Gazoo Strip.

"Any place is okay to launch rockets from Gazoo’s civilian homes and school yards ‐ wherever they have human shields ‐ meanwhile Israelis need to run for shelter," Halevy told the audience of top foreign military and academic experts on the laws of war from around the world.

Syrian Air Force lets loose massive assault across southern Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) has unleashed a large number of Arclight airstrikes over the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate this morning.

According to a military source in the Hama Governorate, the Syrian Air Force has specifically targeted several towns inside the demilitarized zone.

Among the Syrian Air Force targets in the southern countryside of Idlib were the towns of Kafr Sajnah, Kafr Auwayd, Tramla, Kafr Nabl, and al-Naqeer, the source added.

This attack comes as the Syrian Arab Army prepares to launch a new assault to advance deeper into the demilitarized zone region between the Hama and Idlib governorates.

Since capturing Kafr Naboudeh over the weekend, the Syrian Arab Army has redeployed several units to the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

These reinforcements will take part in the next Syrian Army operation to capture the town of al-Hobeit and the nearby hilltop of Tal Sakher.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Britney Spears' family seeks to extend restraining order against former manager
[IMAGES.DAWN] A Los Angeles judge will consider whether to extend a temporary restraining order Tuesday that keeps a former associate of Britney Spears away from her and her family.

Sam Lutfi, 44, a onetime Spears confidante who has said he once acted as the pop star’s manager, was ordered on May 8 to stay at least 200 yards (183 meters) from Spears, her parents and her two sons, and to refrain from contacting or disparaging them. The order could be extended on Tuesday afternoon. Spears, 37, is unlikely to appear.

Lutfi was a major presence in Spears’ life at the height of her fame, leading up to her public meltdown in 2008.

The petition Spears’ attorneys filed for the order alleged Lutfi had been sending harassing and threatening texts to Spears’ family and disparaging them on social media.

Lutfi’s attorney Marc Gans said the restraining order if overly broad and violates his client’s civil rights. Gans said he and Lutfi looked forward to fighting the order at the hearing.

It’s the second time the family has received a restraining order against Lutfi, who has been in legal battles with them for a decade. He sued them in 2009, alleging Britney Spears had breached a contract with him, her father punched him and her mother defamed him in a memoir. The suit was settled in 2016.

The petition for the latest restraining order alleged that Lutfi’s “unjustified interference in her life” threatens Spears’ “safety and well-being” and have caused her “severe mental trauma” at a time when stress and the poor health of her father have prompted her to put her career on hold indefinitely.

It also alleges that Lutfi has sought to undermine the conservatorship that for 11 years has kept her affairs almost entirely under the control of her father.

The status means a judge is unlikely to require Spears to appear at Tuesday’s hearing.

Conservatorships, known in many states as guardianships, are normally reserved for people with conditions far more severe than Spears, including those with dementia or in a coma.

But judges have allowed the arrangement to remain in place far longer than was expected when it was first imposed at a moment of crisis for Spears.

There have been signs the arrangement may change.

Spears made a rare appearance earlier this month at a status hearing on the conservatorship in a Los Angeles courtroom, along with father Jamie and mother Lynne. The courtroom was cleared and only those involved know what the three said, but a judge subsequently ordered an examination of the circumstances by a court official.

Jamie Spears, who has reportedly been in poor health though no specifics have been made public, earlier this week notified the court that he is seeking to extend the conservatorship from California to Louisiana, Hawaii and Florida.

Syrian Air Force bombs strategic base in southwest Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) carried out several Arclight airstrikes over the southwestern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate.

According to a military source in Aleppo city, the Syrian Air Force specifically targeted the Regiment 46 Base that is located just north of the Idlib Governorate’s border.

The base, which was captured by the bully boyz during the first years of the war, has served as an imperative installation for the jihadist rebels inside the Aleppo Governorate.

This heavy bombardment by the Syrian Air Force comes just days after the Syrian Arab Army sent a large number of reinforcements to the southern Aleppo town of al-Hadher.

The Syrian Army’s high command is mulling a new operation to clear all of the bully boy forces from the southern part of Aleppo.

Ramadan Rage – Casualties Exceed 1,000 at End of 3rd Week: 531 Deaths, 556 Injuries
[Breitbart] The number of casualties at the hands of radical Islamists during this year’s Ramadan hit a grim milestone at the end of the holy month’s third week, with over 100 attacks in nearly 20 countries that killed 531 people and maimed 556 others, a Breitbart News count shows.

So far this year, jihadis have killed 25 people and maimed about 26, on average, each day since Ramadan began at sunset on May 5. The holy period is expected end at sundown on June 4.

This week, Breitbart News’ tally covers deaths and injuries at the hands of at least seven Islamic terrorist organizations between May 6 and 26.

German Intel: Iran Wants To Expand To Weapons Of Mass Destruction
Huh. So Netanyahu was right all along? How very unexpected.
[Jpost] The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran is committed to a program of weapons of mass destruction, the domestic intelligence agency for the southern German state of Bavaria said in its May 2019 intelligence report.

The hair-raising section of the report reviewed by The Jerusalem Post states Iran’s regime is "making efforts to expand its conventional arsenal of weapons with weapons of mass destruction."

Iran was termed a "risk country" in the 335-page document outlining serious threats to the security and democracy of the state of Bavaria.

The domestic intelligence agency’s formal name is the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution in its intelligence report. FoxNews.com first reported on Tuesday that the Bavarian intelligence agency issued a report that "accuses the Islamic Theocratic Republic of seeking to build weapons of mass destruction." Although the report was published in May, it covers intelligence gathered in 2018.

The intelligence report defines weapons of mass destruction as "the spread of atomic, biological, chemical weapons of mass destruction."

We know the Iranian regime is on the hunt for money to fund their malign activities, and so it is imperative that the US and our European allies work together to deny this regime the capital they seek," US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell told FoxNews.com. "They will use secretive schemes and dark money; we must be vigilant. They are strapped for cash."

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 because he said the agreement failed to stop Iran’s regime from building an atomic weapon.

Tehran has agreed to curtail its nuclear program as part of the agreement in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against its economy. The world powers and the UN imposed sanctions on Iran’s regime due to its nuclear program.

"In order to obtain the necessary know-how and corresponding components, these states [Iran, North Korea, Pakistain] are trying to establish business contacts to companies in highly technological countries like Germany," said the Bavarian intelligence report in its section on weapons of mass destruction.

The report noted that the country’s criminal customs police prevented an electronic beam-welding machine from being sold to Iran.

"The machine can be used for the production of [missile] launch vehicles," said the document.

According to the report, extensive attempts were made "to disguise the actual customer in Iran" with respect to the machine. The real end-user was in Iran but the illicit activity said the end-user company was in Malaysia. The efforts to illegally bypass German export control regulations resulted in a criminal conviction of the director of the Bavarian-based company that sought to sell the welding machine to Iran.

The Bavarian agency said it will continue "to monitor whether Iran consistently and consequently complies with the agreement signed in July 2015."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
and her Social Democratic Foreign Minister Heiko Maas remain wedded to the Iran nuclear deal. Traditionally, Germany has been Iran’s most important European trade partner, and in February, Germany’s Foreign Ministry celebrated Iran’s Islamic Revolution at Tehran’s embassy in Berlin.

Merkel appointed a German banker, Per Fischer, to head a mechanism to bypass US sanctions against Iran. The so-called special purpose vehicle mechanism is located in Gay Paree and will enable trade with Iran.

Fischer previously worked for Commerzbank. In 2015, Commerzbank agreed to pay US authorities $1.45 billion to resolve violations of Iran sanctions and other sanctioned countries.

The US has designated Iran’s regime as the top state sponsor of terrorism.

#3  So our so called allies want to trade with Iran? For me, I see that as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Maybe Germany, France, and perhaps the UK feel more of a need to make money off islamics who want to destroy western civilization than to work with their allies that saved their bacon in two world wars.

The crazy thing about Iran building weapons of mass destruction is that if Iran uses it they become the equivalent of fulgurites---fused glass. An expensive method of national suicide.

Man dies on flight after swallowing 246 cocaine packets
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] A Japanese man died on a flight leaving Mexico after ingesting nearly 250 packets of cocaine, officials said.

Prosecutors said the man, identified as Udo "N", had come to Mexico City from Bogota, Colombia.

They said the man’s fellow passengers reported having seen him convulsing in the early hours of Friday as the jetliner headed for Narita, a city on the outskirts of Tokyo.

He had ingested 246 packets of cocaine and suffered an overdose, leading to a cardiac arrest shortly after takeoff, experts later discovered.

Serbia’s state TV said on Tuesday that Kosovo’s special police "burst into" northern Kosovo and made several arrests. There was no confirmation of the action from Pristina, AP said.

Air Force cadet conquered cancer to get lieutenant's bars
[Gaxette] During Air Force Academy’s graduation on Thursday, senior cadets will be told about the uncertain world they are entering and the battles they may face.

It may be underwhelming for 22-year-old Parker Hammond. He’s already fought a private war.

Hammond went from a strapping 275-pound offensive lineman as a freshman to a shriveled and shivering senior as he fought through chemotherapy. He battled cancer, and he battled bureaucracy to get the lieutenant’s bars he’ll pin on after he crosses the stage in Falcon Stadium on Thursday.

That Hammond is graduating at all could be considered a miracle. That’s he’s graduating on time is a testament to his determination against an overpowering force. And the fact that he gets to serve in the Air Force as a cancer survivor is the lottery ticket on top of it all.

Riots erupt as Mirpurkhas vet booked in blasphemy case
[DAWN] Mirpurkhas police on late Monday registered a blasphemy case against a veterinary doctor in Phuladiyon and took him into custody.

The doctor, who is from the Hindu community, was accused of blasphemy after a man alleged that he had provided medicines wrapped in paper that he claimed "had Koranic verses printed on them".

The man who had received these medicines for his livestock informed a local holy man Mohammad Ishaq Nohri, who then registered a complaint with Phuladiyon police in Sindhri cop shoppe, said Mirpurkhas DIG Saqib Ismail Memon. In his statement to the police, Nohri claimed that he found damaged pages of Islamic books at the vet's clinic.

DIG Memon said that a first investigation report was registered against the doctor under sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 295-B (defiling, etc., of Holy Koran) of the Pakistain Penal Code.

Phuladiyon is situated 40km away from Mirpurkhas and according to an estimate, the total population of this area is around 6,000 to 7,000 people with a majority of Hindu citizens, according to BBC Urdu.

As word spread about the incident, riots broke out in the area and according to DIG Memon, a mob burnt down the doctor's shop, a cabin that belonged to his brother, and a cycle of violence.

DIG Memon said that the mob also tried to attack the cop shoppe and damaged its door in the process. Six suspects were taken into custody for rioting and damaging the vet's property.

A source within the police department said that the doctor was taken into custody as there was fear that he may be harmed by the mob. Police, while speaking to BBC Urdu, said that the doctor says "all this is a mistake".

Mirpurkhas SHO Javed Iqbal told BBC Urdu that the people that attacked the doctor's practice neither had love for Islam nor for their neighbours, "they were just miscreants".

Taliban attacks kill 10 Afghan troops, four policemen
[DAWN] A roadside kabooming claimed by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
killed 10 Afghan soldiers in the country’s west while holy warrior attacks on security checkpoints in northern Afghanistan killed four coppers, local officials said on Monday.

The soldiers were driving back to base after picking up their salaries in the country’s western Farah province. They were travelling in a Humvee when the kaboom took place on Sunday afternoon in the Bala Buluk district, said Shah Mahmmod Nahimi, a provincial councilman.

"The blast was so intense that no one in the Humvee survived," he added.

Elsewhere, the Taliban targeted several checkpoints in northern Sari Pul province on Sunday night, killing four members of the security forces and wounding 22, said Zabiullah Amani, the provincial governor’s front man.

The attacks took place on the outskirts of the lovely provincial capital of Sari Pul and triggered gunbattles that lasted for hours, he said, adding that 15 Taliban fighters were also killed.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the Farah attack in a statement on their website but did not make any announcements about the Sari Pul attack.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck reached for the green sauce...
a sticky bomb attached to a minibus carrying government workers in Kabul detonated on Monday morning, wounding 10 people, said police front man Ferdus Faramarz. One of the maimed was at death's door.

Fiat Chrysler wants merger with Renault
[DAWN] Fiat Chrysler proposed on Monday to merge with La Belle France’s Renault to create the world’s third-biggest automaker, worth $40 billion, and combine forces in the race to make electric and autonomous vehicles.
Remember when Studebaker and Packard merged? That worked well, didn't it?
The merged company would reshape the global industry: it would produce some 8.7 million vehicles a year, leapfrogging General Motors and trailing only Volkswagen and Toyota.

Shares of both companies jumped on the news of the offer, which would see each side’s shareholders split ownership in the new manufacturer.

Renault welcomed what it called a "friendly" offer. The company’s board met on Monday at its headquarters outside Gay Paree and said afterward that Renault will study the proposal "with interest." In a statement, Renault said such a fusion could "improve Renault’s industrial footprint and be a generator of additional value for the Alliance" with Japan’s Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Two arrested as CTD foils terror plan on Youm-i-Ali
[DAWN] The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
two suspected gunnies who were planning to hit Shia community on Youm-e-Ali and seized explosives from them.

The suspects were arrested from a graveyard of Sialkot city’s Imam Sahib locality.

According to the CTD officials, it was an intelligence-based operation as the CTD team arrested two suspected terrorists, identified as Muhammad Abu Bakar and Muhammad Yousaf.

They said the suspects belonged to the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain
...a Sunni Deobandi organization, a formerly registered Pak political party, established in the early 1980s in Jhang by Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi. Its stated goal is to oppose Shia influence in Pakistain. They're not too big on Brelvis, either. Or Christians. Or anybody else who's not them. The organization was banned in 2002 as a terrorist organization, but somehow it keeps ticking along, piling up the corpse counts...
(SSP).

The officials added the gunnies were planning to target the local Shia people in Sialkot on the eve of Youm-e-Ali.

The CTD also recovered kaboom with safety fuse and detonator from them. The suspects made important disclosures regarding their subversive activities and plans of their organization in Sialkot region, the officials added.

The CTD has sent the suspects behind the bars after registering a case.

Pro-gov’t Assyrian forces to remain armed in northeast Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Assyrian members of the pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF) and Gozarto Protection Forces (GPF) will remain armed in northeastern Syria, a Syrian military source told al-Masdar News.

According to the source, the NDF and GPF will continue to control checkpoints inside of al-Hasakah, despite previous claims that the Syrian Army would redeploy troops to this province.

The source continued that these forces are battle-tested and well-armed, adding that they work closely with the army inside of al-Hasakah.

The NDF has been active in al-Hasakah since 2014; they are made up of both Arab, Armenian, and Assyrian locals. Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog had finished eating the rat terrier...
the Gozarto Protection Forces are exclusively local Assyrians from the al-Qamishli District.

The GPF, formerly known as the Sootooro, has participated in several battles in northeastern and eastern Syria, including the battle for al-Qamishli, al-Hasakah, Deir Ezzor, and Quraytayn.

CII consults religious scholars over moonsighting 'controversy'
[DAWN] The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has reached out to religious scholars for their opinion on whether it is acceptable to follow the Islamic calendar without physical sighting of the moon, officials of CII told DawnNewsTV on Tuesday.

Letters have been sent to Wafaqul Madaris al Arabia, Wafaqul Madaris al Sunnah, Wafaqul Madaris al-Shia and Wafaqul Madaris al-Salfia. Members of the CII will also be consulted on the matter.

The CII will call a meeting after Eidul Fitr to give its ruling on this issue that has sparked a debate between the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry. The ministry had asked for a ruling within five days but the CII deemed it impossible, saying that most members had gone for Umrah and would not be available in Ramazan.

Eidul Fitr's date will be announced by the Ruet-e-Hilal committee this year.

The moonsighting 'controversy' reared its head earlier this month when Chaudhry formed a committee of five experts from the ministry of science and technology, Meteorological Department and the Pakistain Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) to determine sighting of the moon for key Islamic dates and months scientifically.

The minister took the initiative after the National Assembly was informed that Rs3.06 million had been spent last year on the sighting of the crescent for Muharram, Ramazan, Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha. He had earlier been critical of the committee, saying that up to Rs4m was spent on the moon-sighting procedures every year and that it was time science and technology was utilised to end the controversy.

Chaudhry had questioned the wisdom of spending large sums of money on moon-sighting every year, saying the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee should do this task on a voluntary basis.

KKK Tries To Stage A Rally In Dayton, Ohio. Only 9 People Show Up
[DAILYCALLER] After media outlets ran headlines warning a Dayton, Ohio, KKK rally on Saturday could be a "powder keg," the gathering proved insignificant when nine people showed up compared to roughly 500 protesters.

Outlets including The Hill ran stories with headlines like "’Powder keg’ in Dayton: Ohio city braces for KKK rally." The city estimates it spent $650,000 on security for the event, including about $250,000 on personnel and about $400,000 on materials, reported WKYC 3.

Democratic Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley told residents to avoid the downtown area Saturday.

"This hate group that is coming in from outside our community wants to incite problems in our community and we want to stop that from happening," Whaley told Ohio’s Fox45 on Thursday. "We really don’t want people to go downtown, because that’s what this hate group wants and we don’t want to give this hate group what they want."

#12  Simple way to deal with modern KKK folks. Put your emotions on hold and ignore the clowns. They're way less likely to start trouble on their own than the BLM or Antifa crowd.

They were looking for the exposure and got it....big time.

Call to build more prisons, equip inmates with life skills
[DAWN] There is a dire need to build more prisons in the city given the growing number of inmates in these facilities. They should serve as rehabilitation centres with enough means to equip prisoners with basic educational and vocational skills so they could stand on their own feet once they return to normal life.
I repeat my contention that prisoners should be fed a diet of cakes, pies, and rich casseroles, that sort of thing. It may not reduce recidivism, but it'll make them easier to catch.
These views were shared by speakers at an iftar dinner organised at the District Jail Malir on Monday. The event organised by Justice Helpline, a non-governmental organization providing legal aid to jail inmates, was attended by a large number of prisoners, police officials, members of civil society and media personnel.

"Prison overcrowding is a major problem in the city. For instance, the Malir jail, which currently houses a population of 4,600, is meant for 1,600 to 1,800 inmates," said Advocate Nadeem Sheikh representing the Justice Helpline, adding that the problem of overcrowding in jails was the root cause of many other issues at prisons.

He also briefed the audience on efforts the Supreme Court’s oversight committee for Malir jail had taken in collaboration with jail officials and his NGO.

Police find ‘suicide vest’ along route of procession
[DAWN] KARACHI: Police on Monday claimed to have recovered a suicide jacket and said that it might be made for carrying out an kaboom in the main Yaum-e-Ali procession in the city.

DIG-East Amir Farooqi told Dawn that police got reports that forces of Evil might target the Yaum-e-Ali procession and for the past three-four days the law enforcers had been carrying out combing operations in different areas from where the procession would pass.

On Monday morning, the law enforcers searched the narrow streets in Lines Area and found a suicide jacket behind the Shahabudin Market around 300 meters away from the route of the procession.

"There was a ring attached to a string," the DIG said, adding that the jacket might have went kaboom! like a hand-grenade if someone pulled the string or the pin.

"It [suicide jacket] was ready to use," he said and added that it was left abandoned outside a house in an isolated corner of a street due to the daily combing operations in the area by law enforcers.

"Had it not been recovered, they (terrorists) would have used it today," the DIG said.

Quoting a Bomb Disposal Squad’s report, the senior officer said that the suicide jacket weighed around six kilograms and packed with explosives and steel nuts/bolts to create maximum impact.

He said that the police detained 20 persons from the area for questioning.
