My parents didn’t watch that show, but until the television broke when I was seven, we got to watch Gentle Ben, Lassie, Flipper, and Wild Kingdom on their appropriate days before we were sent off to bed. My baby brother got a little 13”” portable B&W thing with his bar mitzvah money a decade later, so we skipped straight from those shows to Soap and Saturday Night Live — which was exactly as startling as y’all might imagine.
[USA Today] A Kansas man is dead after officials said he was struck by gunfire from a rifle that discharged when a dog stepped on it in a truck.
The fatal shooting took place in rural Kansas along a road in Sumner County, about 45 miles south of Wichita, Wellington Fire and EMS Chief Tim Hay told USA TODAY Wednesday.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Joseph Austin Smith of Wichita.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were dispatched to the scene Saturday morning for a male who had been shot in the back.
At the scene, EMS personnel administered CPR before the victim was pronounced dead, Hay said.
The driver of the truck, who was sitting next to Smith when the gun fired, was not hurt, Hay said.

This is not a repeat of what the Dems did. These clowns were removed for cause and because they were security risks. More of that should be done but the committees do need some members.
Did Pelosi end up with committee assignments? I imagine they would be good ones. Maybe speaker emeritus status is an opportunity to write your memoir.

Both articles make it sound like the DDOS attack is more likely Russian or criminal hackers than jihadis. Maybe North Korea? They have a group for that — remember the cyber attack on SONY when the Norks thought Pudgy was being unfairly maligned?
[Gateway] DirecTV announced it was de-platforming conservative Newsmax Channel this week.
DirecTV says they will drop Newsmax after they dropped the conservative channel OAN last year.
GOP lawmakers are promising to investigate this "red flag First Amendment violation" and have asked for DirecTV to turn over their ratings for each of their channels and the fees paid by the network to all of the channels.
This is despite the fact that DirecTV PAYS 11 liberal channels on its network lineup. DirecTV also lost NFL Ticket IIRC for 2023-24 season

Entirely independent of this, Mr. Wife cancelled our DirecTV account this week. If I understand correctly, though I probably don’t, we are now to watch television shows on YouTube.
He manages our household budget the way he used to manage his work budget, so I’m sure he is not alone in this decision.

I dumped cable TV a long time ago and saved a lot of money. I got tired of the predatory escalating pricing policies of cable. I also went the way of YouTube for some things and an inexpensive ROKU add-on for other things. I get more TV than available time. There is also a way that what is on you phone or pad can be "cast"onto you smart TV (most TV today are smart TVs).

I use an old AppleTV box to output HDMI to my "smart" tv - whose features I don't use. I'm looking for a better monitor.
I haven't had cable for decades. I do pay YouTube a small amount to get rid of the ads - well worth it, but I have no interest in the YouTubeTV they keep flogging.
YouTube has a plethora of great DIY channels. Try Torbjörn Åhman, Essential Craftsman, or Living Traditions Homestead.
Also, Blancolirio (Juan Browne) has a lot of interesting stuff, non-DYI.
[Hot Air] By this point, the troves of classified documents turning up at multiple locations where Joe Biden lived or worked has reached the point where even MSNBC feels obligated to cover it. (Albeit while continually shrieking that the Bad Orange Man is still far worse.) Some of his top aides are bailing out like rats leaving a sinking ship. And having the FBI show up at his home in Delaware and discover even more documents after Biden’s own lawyers supposedly scrubbed the place should have been the coup de grâce, right? Who would rush in at this point to rescue Biden’s battered reputation?
Never fear! The Associated Press rides to the rescue this week, declaring that the FBI search was actually a brilliant part of Biden’s "strategy" to put this all behind him. They’re describing it as "a legal and political calculation" that will "pay off in the long run."
President Joe Biden’s decision allowing the FBI to search his home in Delaware last week is laying him open to fresh negative attention and embarrassment following the earlier discoveries of classified documents at that home and a former office. But it’s a legal and political calculation that aides hope will pay off in the long run as he prepares to seek reelection.
The remarkable, nearly 13-hour search by FBI agents of the sitting president’s Wilmington home is the latest political black eye for Biden, who promised to restore propriety to the office after the tumultuous tenure of his predecessor, Donald Trump.
There are a couple more notable revelations in this report. First, a White House spokesperson confirmed this week that "Biden’s own attorneys invited the FBI to conduct the search." So it was never a "raid" to begin with. Biden’s team "invited" the FBI to come and search the house. Without that invitation, the Bureau would never have shown up, to say nothing of kicking down the doors as they did at Mar-A-Lago.
But if that’s the case, how did the FBI manage to find six more classified documents after Biden’s lawyers combed through the place for days? Are they really that bad at conducting a search or were those documents left there for a reason? And if it’s the latter, was the reason to help Biden or to try to usher him out the door more quickly?
Getting back to Biden’s brilliant "strategy," the AP goes on to say that Uncle Joe "is aiming to show that, unlike Trump, he never intended to retain classified materials." This is supposedly going to be "a key distinction that experts say diminishes the risks of criminal liability."
Okay. So the President never intended to retain classified materials at his home or office. So how did the documents get there? Did they stick to the seat of his pants as he was leaving for the day, only to conveniently be blown free by the wind and land in some boxes next to his Corvette? Or does he plan to claim that someone else on his staff removed the documents and he had no idea it was being done? If so, that’s potentially even worse because the "somebody else" in question very likely didn’t have anywhere near the clearance level required to look at the documents, to say nothing of taking them out of the building and sticking them in his garage.

It’s a demonstration of total incompetence. When you have months to clean up a crime scene and they still find documents, you suck at corruption. I could understand if the feds were sweeping for DNA and something got missed especially in Hunter’s case, but they are looking for paper documents. They are not even seizing computers, lap tops or phones. The documents they should have found were stamped with their classification levels. As we can tell from Hunter’s laptop, we are not dealing with criminal masterminds.

[AT] More than two dozen hopeful pilots who were caught cheating on a written test in September 2022 while attending the Army’s flight school at Fort Rucker,

Alabama, received a second chance and passed a retest on Thursday, according to command officials and an internal investigation.
Army Times obtained a 212-page internal investigation by an Army Aviation Center of Excellence officer detailing the cheating ring among officers and warrant officers attending the service’s initial entry rotary wing training course. They used an “altered” version of an official publication — which Army Times also obtained — that contained the answers to an open-book doctrine exam.
Aviation Center of Excellence spokesperson Lt. Col. Andy Thaggard confirmed the violations in a statement emailed to Army Times on Thursday in response to questions about the investigation. The spokesperson stressed that “all flight school students, regardless of if they are from the U.S. Army or one of our Allies and Partners, are briefed multiple times during orientation about...standards and expectations — including the Honor Code.”
Thaggard added that the center’s top general, Maj. Gen. Michael McCurry, met individually with the implicated students and decided to give “each Soldier...an opportunity to successfully complete flight school.”
None of the students faced court-martial for the cheating, nor did they receive any administrative punishments that would “have a lasting effect on their career,” Thaggard added in a phone interview.

[WND] One professor's database cites 81 attempts by the United States to influence elections in other countries.
So why do we pretend we don't interfere in our own?
The CIA accused Russia of interfering in the 2016 presidential election by hacking into Democratic and Republican computer networks and selectively releasing emails. But critics might point out the U.S. has done worse things.
The U.S. has a long history of attempting to influence presidential elections in other countries — it's done so as many as 81 times between 1946 and 2000, according to a database amassed by political scientist Dov Levin of Carnegie Mellon University.
That number doesn't include military coups and regime change efforts following the election of candidates the U.S. didn't like, notably those in Iran, Guatemala and Chile. Nor does it include general assistance with the electoral process, such as election monitoring.
Levin defines intervention as "a costly act which is designed to determine the election results [in favor of] one of the two sides." These acts, carried out in secret two-thirds of the time, include funding election campaigns, as the U.S. did in Israel, disseminating misinformation or propaganda, training locals of only one side in various campaigning or get-out-the-vote techniques, helping one side design their campaign materials, making public pronouncements or threats in favor of or against a candidate, and providing or withdrawing foreign aid — which we shouldn't be giving in the first place.
Italy's 1948 general election is an early example of a race where U.S. actions probably influenced the outcome. Levin said that U.S. intervention probably played an important role in preventing a Communist Party victory, not just in 1948, but in seven subsequent Italian elections.
But now we often help the bad guys. More and more, we're aiding the Communists, which is not, shall we say, in line with our Constitution.
The U.S. also attempted to sway Russian elections. In 1996, with the presidency of Boris Yeltsin and the Russian economy flailing, President Clinton endorsed a $10.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund linked to privatization, trade liberalization and other measures that would move Russia toward a capitalist economy. Yeltsin used the loan to bolster his popular support, telling voters that only he had the reformist credentials to secure such loans, according to media reports at the time. He used the money, in part, for social spending before the election, including payment of back wages and pensions.

As they grow older, America’s children are systematically sexualized in government ("public") school classrooms and after-school LGBT "support clubs," as well as by the ubiquitous, purple-haired, heavily pierced transgender recruiters on social media platforms like TikTok. As a direct consequence, many children are seduced into "identifying" as the opposite gender, or a brand-new imaginary gender. And although too young to drive or vote, they are encouraged, convinced — and permitted by grownups — to take powerful drugs and hormones, and to have their healthy breasts amputated or undergo chemical or surgical castration. The resulting teen transgender suicide rate is "shockingly high."

The United States on Tuesday slapped sanctions on a high-profile Lebanese economist alleged to be assisting the terror group Hezbollah with its financial operations.
The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against economist and money exchanger Hassan Moukalled; CTEX Exchange, a money service business owned by him; and Moukalled’s sons, Rayyan Moukalled and Rani Moukalled, who the Treasury said in a statement "facilitate Hassan Moukalled and his company’s financial activities in support of Hezbollah."
It said that Moukalled, who frequently appears as an economic analyst on local media, had "worked in close coordination with senior Hezbollah financial officials to help Hezbollah establish a presence in Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch... ’s financial system." It said he serves as a financial adviser to the terror group, "carrying out business deals on behalf of the group throughout the region."
The Treasury also alleged that Moukalled’s exchange shop serves as a "financial front company" for Hezbollah.
The sanctions also targeted two other companies owned or controlled by Moukalled, the Lebanese Company for Information and Studies (LCIS) and Lebanese Company for Publishing, Media, and Research and Studies (LCPMR).
Reached by phone, Moukalled denied the allegations. No, no! Certainly not! and said his businesses are "100% above-board."
The move comes after the US in December slapped terrorism sanctions on two accountants and two companies in Lebanon for providing Hezbollah with financial services.
The penalties targeted Adel Mohamad Mansour, executive director of Hezbollah’s al-Qard al-Hassan group, which has been previously sanctioned by the US, as well as another company he is involved with, al-Khobara for Accounting, Auditing, and Studies.
The sanctions also apply to the firm Auditors for Accounting and Auditing and one of its representatives, Naser Hasan Neser, as well as Hassan Khalil, who the Treasury Department said has been active in helping Hezbollah acquire arms.
As for CTEX, the Treasury said that in mid-2021 Moukalled received a license from Lebanon’s central bank for CTEX to transfer money within Lebanon and abroad, and within a year the company had obtained significant market share within Lebanon’s currency transfer sector and was reportedly “collecting millions of U.S. dollars for the Central Bank of Lebanon.”
“At the same time, CTEX was also providing U.S. dollars to Hezbollah institutions and recruiting money changers loyal to Hezbollah. Hassan Moukalled advocates for CTEX directly to the central bank governor and receives commissions in the hundreds of thousands of dollars daily,” the Treasury added.

US Congress members on Monday called for the removal of a UN Paleostinian rights official over antisemitic comments exposed by The Times of Israel.
UN Special Rapporteur La Belle Francesca Albanese, who is tasked with investigating Israeli activities in the Paleostinian territories, has a history of antisemitism but has not faced any repercussions from the UN or issued a clear apology.
Albanese said during a 2014 conflict between Israel and Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Albanese attempted to distance herself from the comments in a statement to The Times of Israel, but since the report exposing the comments last month, has denied that the comments are antisemitic and brushed off criticism as "yet another politically motivated attack."
A member of a UN Commission of Inquiry into Israel, Miloon Kothari, has also made antisemitic statements and remains in his position.

In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years... and High Commissioner Volker Turk, 11 Congress members said, "Enough is enough."
"It’s clear from Ms. Albanese’s statements that these comments were not simply a mistake, but rather a fundamental part of her worldview," they said. "Instead of taking responsibility for repeating age-old antisemitic tropes and her incitement to violence, Ms. Albanese attacks those who notice her public comments."
"You have stated that ’there is no room for antisemitism in the UN,’ but it seems you have room for Special Rapporteur Albanese and others who have repeatedly made statements that are antisemitic," the letter said.
The Congress members said Albanese’s rhetoric is part of an anti-Israel pattern at the UN, noting that the General Assembly passed more resolutions criticizing Israel than against all other countries combined last year. The letter also noted Kothari’s statements and antisemitism by the employees of the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, UNRWA.
"This pattern seriously undermines not only the UN’s credibility on issues in Israel and the Paleostinian territories, but also the UN’s commitments to its own chartered principles of tolerance, equal treatment, and impartiality," the letter said. "We urge you to demonstrate that the UN is capable of genuinely addressing antisemitism by removing Ms. Albanese from her post."
The letter was led by US House Representative Brad Sherman, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Democrat, and Representative Dina Titus, a Democrat from Nevada.
"In her remarks Ms. Albanese has managed to insult America, insult American Jews, defame Israel," Sherman told The Times of Israel. "It was time to send the letter to try to deal with the antisemitism that’s coming from someone who claims to be fighting for human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... ."
"There are a lot of people of good will around this world who think the Human Rights Council needs to stand up for human rights instead of standing up for antisemitism," he said.
Guterres’s office has previously said that Albanese is an independent investigator appointed by the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and not under the secretary-general’s control.
Albanese, an Italian lawyer, was appointed last year as the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Paleostinian territories. The rapporteur is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council tasked with investigating human rights in Paleostinian areas, publishing public reports and working with governments and other groups on the issue.
"America and Europe, one of them subjugated by the Jewish lobby, and the other by the sense of guilt about the Holocaust, remain on the sidelines and continue to condemn the oppressed — the Paleostinians — who defend themselves with the only means they have (deranged missiles), instead of making Israel face its international law responsibilities," Albanese wrote.
References to Jews and Jewish lobbies wielding disproportionate power are viewed as antisemitic because they conjure age-old tropes and conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the world from the shadows. Many of those stereotypes also depict Jews as greedy.
In response, Israel’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva called the comments "yet another stain on the credibility of this body and yet another example of the impunity that exists today regarding antisemitism and antisemitic comments made by UN officials."
"Antisemitism is a persistent malice that has infected the United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... Human Rights Council for far too long," the mission said.
Albanese’s statements have also been condemned by the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft ...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation... ’s antisemitism envoy Deborah Lipstadt, the US mission to the UN in Geneva, the co-chair of the US House task force on antisemitism, Israeli officials and leading US Jewish groups.
The Paleostinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs defended Albanese, attacking condemnation of her remarks as a "coordinated assault" and "character liquidation."
UN special rapporteurs are supposed to be unbiased, but Albanese refers to Israel as a settler-colonial enterprise and to Jews in Israel and the pre-state British mandate as foreign interlopers subjugating an indigenous Paleostinian population. She has repeatedly justified violence against Israelis, sympathized with terror groups and dismissed Israel’s right to self-defense.
In her first official report to the UN this year, she urged a rejection of the conflict paradigm, describing Israel solely as an oppressor and legitimizing Paleostinian "resistance." She rarely acknowledges Paleostinian terrorism.
Albanese’s "Jewish lobby" comments echoed recent statements by another UN official investigating Israel.
In July last year, Kothari, a member of the UN’s commission of inquiry looking into alleged Israeli crimes, said that social media was "controlled largely by the Jewish lobby." He also questioned why Israel was allowed in the UN. He later apologized after coming under heavy pressure but remains in his position.
Albanese defended Kothari, calling criticism of his remarks "preposterous allegations of antisemitism" and a "smear campaign."
Kothari’s open-ended commission of inquiry has been described as harshly critical of Israel and the country’s backers point out that it almost entirely ignores Paleostinian terror and violence.

"No other nation could have done what we did that night to avoid a horrible outcome. As with all diplomacy, the people working the problem set matter a great deal, at least in the short run," he said. "My most senior diplomat, David Hale, had also been the US ambassador to Pakistain and knew that our relationship with India was a priority," Mr Pompeo said.
"General McMaster and Admiral Philip Davidson, the head of what came to be renamed the US Indo-Pacific Command, understood India’s importance, too," he said.

In a court of law the email is not proof. In a court of reality the email and all of the accompanying circumstances mean that the Bidens are guilty. The probability that Joe was/is not engaged in trading on his office in general and leveraging classified information in particular is infinitesimally small. It approaches zero and/or the value of the odds that Nancy Pelosi is not using Congressional info for stock trading.

I woukd argue that outside of a DC Courtroom, the email matched up with the source classified document Would convince a jury of guilt. The Tucker presentation of the specific email was perfectly presented. The text style and form were so alien to everything else Hunter wrote, it was clear it was lifted from an analysis document from the government. For me, it is the smoking gun to use to rip this festering mess wide open, or demonstrate that there is only law for the plebs, especially the white, conservative ones!

It will be in a DC court. He will be found innocent. They will argue that he may have sat in on a classified briefing with his dad because he planned to travel with the VP. [CNN] The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send US-made Abrams tanks to Ukraine and could make an announcement as soon as this week, according to three US officials familiar with the deliberations.
The timing around the actual delivery of the tanks is still unclear and it normally takes several months to train troops to use the tanks effectively, officials said.
An announcement about the tanks could be part of an attempt to break a diplomatic logjam with Germany, which indicated to the US last week that it would not send its Leopard tanks to Ukraine unless the US also agreed to send its M1 Abrams tanks.
Top national security officials in the administration have been actively considering steps they could take to convince Germany to send the Leopards.
On Friday, at a meeting of western defense leaders in Germany, the US and its allies failed to convince German officials to send the Leopards as part of Berlin’s next round of military assistance to Ukraine. But on Tuesday, the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said "We are preparing our decision, which will come very soon" on the tanks. The Abrams is rated fairly higher in quality to the German Leopard. The German Panther is rated number 1 tank in the world, higher than the Abrams and the Leopard, but is not going to Ukraine against the Russians

The Abrams will come out of mothball storage and will most likely be the M1A1 or the M1A2. The US still lists part of it as Top Secret, so parts will have to be stripped off and sanitized for export. On top of that headache, they will have to build out infrastructure for the repair of the tanks in Ukraine as the turbine engine is so different than the diesel the Leopard and Russian tanks use. On top of that Ukrainian mechanics will need to be trained to service the tank as well as new tankers will be trained on a tank that is so much different than their old Soviet ones it will be like a fighter pilot learning to fly a UFO.
So at the earliest we could see Abrams at the front in fall. Leopards will be there sooner as the support and supply network is already in place in Poland and is easy to build slightly forward to Ukraine.

It was Poland that was for Europe and the Germans the main eastern neighbor, the embodiment of Slavism (but not Orthodoxy), behind which loomed incomprehensible Muscovites-schismatics with their Tartaria.
So it was until the 17th century, while Poland, in union with the semi-Russian principality of Lithuania, owned a considerable part of the Western Russian lands. If in 1612 the Poles had held on to the Moscow throne and Russia had disappeared, Poland would have remained the main Slavic power for Europe, with which they would have fought and which, sooner or later, would have been subjugated to their influence.
But then the Russians appeared on the European arena, who first took Kyiv from the Poles, and then went to the Baltic. Petrovsky's "window to Europe" became a death sentence for an already decrepit Poland - it was in the Baltic states that the Russians united with the Germans. Russia has its own Germans, the Baltics. And now for Europe the main Slavs have already become not the Poles, but the Russians.
In 1760, the Russians took Berlin - yes, along with the southern Germans, the Austrians, but there was no place left for any Poland in Europe. It was divided between the Russians and the Germans for a century and a half. And only the death of two empires, German and Russian, gave the Poles a chance to revive their state.
Could it be successful? It is not known, because the Poles immediately tried to restore the situation of the 16th-17th centuries, that is, to become the main eastern state for Europe. And for this they relied on the isolation of the USSR , on the constant confrontation between Europe and Russia, without thinking that they themselves would become its first victim. However, they fell even earlier - in 1939, when the Germans decided to liquidate the Polish state, and the Russians agreed to partition it in order to return their historical lands.
But even this experience taught Poland nothing. The state, restored in 1944, did not regain the eastern lands (populated mainly by Ukrainians and Belarusians), but in return received more than generous compensation in the form of a huge piece of German lands - parts of Prussia , Pomerania and Silesia. At the same time, the new Poland ended up in Moscow's orbit - in the socialist camp, in which it behaved like one of the most disobedient.
The collapse of the Eastern bloc and the collapse of the USSR brought Poland back to Europe, but even there the Poles soon became rebels defending intolerant values and their own independence. At the same time, they remained true to the interwar times, again relying on playing off Europe and Russia. And in 2013, with the beginning of the active phase of the struggle for Ukraine, Poland decided that its finest hour had come.
And if she succeeds in wresting the Square from the hands of Moscow , then she can become the most important country in Europe. Though not equal to Germany, but at least it will again be the main eastern pillar of Europe, the center of the alliance of the countries of the Baltic-Black Sea belt and a shield from the Muscovites.
That is, in Warsaw they want to return the 16th century - both for themselves and for Russia. The task is ambitious, but why spread rot on the Germans ahead of time, without waiting for the defeat of Russia? Why these trillion claims? To humiliate Berlin? And what will happen if Europe, on behalf of which Poland speaks, loses Ukraine to Russia? What will this mean for Warsaw? Even if, during the collapse of Ukraine, she gets a piece of Nezalezhnaya, will this strengthen her position in the confrontation with Germany?
Does Warsaw really believe that they can, if not outplay the Franco-German alliance in determining the future of Europe and its politics, then become a full-fledged part of it? Hopes for Anglo-Saxon help in this struggle are ridiculous: Washington and London can use Warsaw in intra-European games, but they will never place their main bet on it.
Therefore, the only situation in which the Polish strategy would seem justified is a war, a long and exhausting conflict between Europe and Russia. The longer it lasts in the form of a real war for Ukraine, the more attention will be paid to Poland by the powers, both European and Anglo-Saxon. But what will happen "at six o'clock in the evening after the war" when attempts to grow a "new Poland" out of Ukraine fail? It is better for Warsaw not to think about this.
Since there is simply no chance that the window to Europe cut by Peter I will be boarded up forever: sooner or later it will open again. This means that the Poles will not again become the main Slavic people for the Germans - this place will again be occupied by the Russians. And the situation will return not to the beginning of the 17th century, but to the 18th century. This is not about a new division of Poland, but about the fact that at the next round of the restoration of German-Russian relations, it will simply be pushed aside - into a dark corner of history.

So everything about this war has demonstrated that tanks should not be used in this war. Our new plan is to send in a bunch of tanks to be operated by Ukrainians still on their learners permits. [FoxNews] A coalition of 20 states and a top conservative legal group are suing the Biden administration over its recently expanded humanitarian parole program that allows tens of thousands of migrants from designated countries a month into the U.S., arguing that the program is unlawful.
The lawsuit, filed by Texas and America First Legal in the Southern District of Texas, is joined by 19 additional states who are seeking to block the Biden administration’s parole program, which allow up to 30,000 migrants from Haiti, Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela into the U.S. each month.
The Biden administration announced the program for Venezuelans in October, which allowed a limited number to fly directly into the U.S. as long as they had not entered illegally, had a sponsor in the U.S. already and passed certain checks.
Earlier this month, President Joe Biden announced that the program would be expanding to include Haitians, Nicaraguans and Cubans and that the program would allow up to 30,000 a month into the U.S. It allows for migrants to receive work permits and a two-year authorization to live in the U.S. and was announced alongside an expansion of Title 42 expulsions to include those nationalities.
The lawsuit says the program is also unlawful as it did not engage in the notice-and-comment rulemaking required by the Administrative Procedure Act — by which a number of immigration policies have been at least temporarily struck down in recent years. It also argues that the states "face substantial irreparable harms from the Department’s abuse of its parole authority, which allow potentially hundreds of thousands of additional aliens to enter each of their already overwhelmed territories." They argue that states face additional costs for health care, education and other social services.
The lawsuit also marks the latest in a flurry of legal challenges to the Biden administration’s policies by America First Legal — a conservative legal group launched by former Trump White House official Stephen Miller, described as being "at the forefront of the legal battle to save America’s borders from complete annihilation at the hands of this lawless administration."
Miller labeled the Biden program as "pre-amnesty for what would be illegal aliens before they even arrive at our border." He also compared it to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which granted protection from deportation to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors.
The states joining onto the lawsuit with Texas are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.

The Constitution was ratified by the states. The states created the Federal government. It is mysterious to me why states can not sue the entity that they created. [JustTheNews] Those who once served to protect the nation are now using their intel smarts to regulate speech in America.
As Congress and the courts delve deeper into federally sanctioned censorship by Big Tech, a troubling revolving door has emerged between the U.S. intelligence community and the Big Tech giants on the front lines of one of the fiercest battles over free speech in modern American history.
A Just the News review of LinkedIn employment histories of senior Big Tech executives found that at least 200 former workers of the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, National Security Council and Homeland Security Department have landed Silicon Valley jobs, many within content moderation units regulating supposed "disinformation" and disproportionately throttling news and opinion deviating from approved, left-tilting norms.
These individuals range from Aaron Berman, who spent a decade and a half as a CIA analyst before joining Facebook parent Meta as product policy manager for disinformation, to James Baker, the former FBI general counsel recently fired by Elon Musk as Twitter's chief lawyer over a spat about prior review of "Twitter Files" releases exposing past censorship by the platform. Baker was one of the key FBI figures involved in obtaining a FISA warrant based on the now-debunked Steele dossier to surveil onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
The spooks-to-Silicon-Valley pipeline has sent an army of federal agents, intel analysts and even psychological operations experts once trained with taxpayer money to fight foreign enemies or capture big criminals into higher-paying private sector jobs where those same skills now target Americans' opinions in the name of fighting "disinformation."
None of the former intel world employees contacted by Just the News returned phone or email requests for comment. But in videos posted online, some acknowledged they are part of a new vanguard of Big Tech censors operating in a world where there is little consensus about what should be done and what is legal.
"There is very little agreement whether we should be leaving more content up or taking more content down," Berman said in a video posted on Meta's site. "With any particular rule or issue that we're looking at where something has come up, where the rules are not 100 percent clear, we're not going to make everybody happy."
Berman, whose LinkedIn biography boasts he used to prepare the presidential daily brief at the CIA, acknowledged there is some discomfort in the power he now wields in his new role in Big Tech to decide the difference between "harmful content" and free speech.
"It's a balance," he said in the video. "I think it should make me uncomfortable, and all of us who do this work."
Some of the federal intel veterans are less inhibited about expressing biases. For example, Nick Rossmann, former CIA analyst and current senior manager of Trust & Safety at Google, overtly supported defeated 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, said Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner should be strangled and declared, "Anti-vaxxers are like Nazis."
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Rossmann even seemed to wish death on elderly Trump voters, tweeting, "I hope they cough on their grandparents, who voted for Trump, & get to rot."
Jacqueline Lopour, another Hillary Clinton supporter and former CIA analyst — she served for 10 years in the agency — is currently Google Senior Manager, Intel Collection, Trust & Safety. In that capacity, she manages "Intel operations spanning multiple threat verticals, including violent extremism, cyber threats, misinformation, hate speech, spam, fraud, security and privacy, and more," according to her LinkedIn bio.
In a 2017 Canadian Broadcasting Company interview, Lopour invoked her CIA experience to uncritically vouch for the agency's assessment that Russia meddled in U.S. politics to tip the 2016 election in favor of Donald Trump, saying, "They [Russia] deliberately released the DNC information to @wikileaks ... with the specific motivation of helping Trump get elected."
Further LinkedIn profile checks revealed several other key members of Big Tech teams who served in either the Department of Defense, CIA, FBI, NSA, or DHS. The growing pipeline of intelligence and law enforcement officials was previously documented in detail by an anonymous Twitter account posted by the user @NameRedacted247 in a 30-part Twitter thread.
Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue with a video message, touting his proposal to end the revolving door between the Deep State" and the "tech tyrants" by imposing "a 7-year cooling off period, before any employee of these powerful agencies is allowed to take a job at a major platform."
Recent reporting "shows the FBI and other rogue agencies have been systematically colluding with former national security officials placed in high positions at Twitter and very likely other companies to advance their censorship regime," said Trump.
"This anti-American effort," he went on, has been "working to silence dissenting opinions on COVID and crucial issues in public health and on the [2020] election." The suppression of dissenting doctors and health experts "had nothing to do with science" or "saving lives," he alleged. "This was about government working with powerful corporations to seize power over you, the American people."
Twitter currently employs at least 10 former FBI agents, according to LinkedIn profile checks performed by Just The News.
Just the News reached out to several former members of the intelligence community now employed by Big Tech for comment but has received no replies.
Just the News also reached out to Facebook, Google, and Twitter, along with the FBI, NSA, and DOD, but only received a brief response from the CIA which read, "CIA's intelligence mission is foreign focused, and the Agency at all times abides by US laws, regulations, and executive orders that prohibit unlawful collection related to US persons."
The FBI field office in Washington, D.C. refused to comment directly, while the NSA recommended reaching out and questioning each Big Tech firm individually.
