My parents didn’t watch that show, but until the television broke when I was seven, we got to watch Gentle Ben, Lassie, Flipper, and Wild Kingdom on their appropriate days before we were sent off to bed. My baby brother got a little 13”” portable B&W thing with his bar mitzvah money a decade later, so we skipped straight from those shows to Soap and Saturday Night Live — which was exactly as startling as y’all might imagine.

Dog steps on rifle in backseat of truck, fatally shoots Kansas man, officials say
[USA Today] A Kansas man is dead after officials said he was struck by gunfire from a rifle that discharged when a dog stepped on it in a truck.

The fatal shooting took place in rural Kansas along a road in Sumner County, about 45 miles south of Wichita, Wellington Fire and EMS Chief Tim Hay told USA TODAY Wednesday.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Joseph Austin Smith of Wichita.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies were dispatched to the scene Saturday morning for a male who had been shot in the back.

At the scene, EMS personnel administered CPR before the victim was pronounced dead, Hay said.

The driver of the truck, who was sitting next to Smith when the gun fired, was not hurt, Hay said.

A Red Flag First Amendment Violation: DirecTV Announces They Will Drop Newsmax After Removing OANN Last Year
[Gateway] DirecTV announced it was de-platforming conservative Newsmax Channel this week.

DirecTV says they will drop Newsmax after they dropped the conservative channel OAN last year.

GOP lawmakers are promising to investigate this "red flag First Amendment violation" and have asked for DirecTV to turn over their ratings for each of their channels and the fees paid by the network to all of the channels.

This is despite the fact that DirecTV PAYS 11 liberal channels on its network lineup.

Government Corruption
Ah, so it was Biden's 'strategy' to have the FBI search his house
[Hot Air] By this point, the troves of classified documents turning up at multiple locations where Joe Biden lived or worked has reached the point where even MSNBC feels obligated to cover it. (Albeit while continually shrieking that the Bad Orange Man is still far worse.) Some of his top aides are bailing out like rats leaving a sinking ship. And having the FBI show up at his home in Delaware and discover even more documents after Biden’s own lawyers supposedly scrubbed the place should have been the coup de grâce, right? Who would rush in at this point to rescue Biden’s battered reputation?

Never fear! The Associated Press rides to the rescue this week, declaring that the FBI search was actually a brilliant part of Biden’s "strategy" to put this all behind him. They’re describing it as "a legal and political calculation" that will "pay off in the long run."
President Joe Biden’s decision allowing the FBI to search his home in Delaware last week is laying him open to fresh negative attention and embarrassment following the earlier discoveries of classified documents at that home and a former office. But it’s a legal and political calculation that aides hope will pay off in the long run as he prepares to seek reelection.

The remarkable, nearly 13-hour search by FBI agents of the sitting president’s Wilmington home is the latest political black eye for Biden, who promised to restore propriety to the office after the tumultuous tenure of his predecessor, Donald Trump.
There are a couple more notable revelations in this report. First, a White House spokesperson confirmed this week that "Biden’s own attorneys invited the FBI to conduct the search." So it was never a "raid" to begin with. Biden’s team "invited" the FBI to come and search the house. Without that invitation, the Bureau would never have shown up, to say nothing of kicking down the doors as they did at Mar-A-Lago.

But if that’s the case, how did the FBI manage to find six more classified documents after Biden’s lawyers combed through the place for days? Are they really that bad at conducting a search or were those documents left there for a reason? And if it’s the latter, was the reason to help Biden or to try to usher him out the door more quickly?

Getting back to Biden’s brilliant "strategy," the AP goes on to say that Uncle Joe "is aiming to show that, unlike Trump, he never intended to retain classified materials." This is supposedly going to be "a key distinction that experts say diminishes the risks of criminal liability."

Okay. So the President never intended to retain classified materials at his home or office. So how did the documents get there? Did they stick to the seat of his pants as he was leaving for the day, only to conveniently be blown free by the wind and land in some boxes next to his Corvette? Or does he plan to claim that someone else on his staff removed the documents and he had no idea it was being done? If so, that’s potentially even worse because the "somebody else" in question very likely didn’t have anywhere near the clearance level required to look at the documents, to say nothing of taking them out of the building and sticking them in his garage.

#5  It’s a demonstration of total incompetence. When you have months to clean up a crime scene and they still find documents, you suck at corruption. I could understand if the feds were sweeping for DNA and something got missed especially in Hunter’s case, but they are looking for paper documents. They are not even seizing computers, lap tops or phones. The documents they should have found were stamped with their classification levels. As we can tell from Hunter’s laptop, we are not dealing with criminal masterminds.

27 Army Helicopter Students Allowed to continue after cheating on written test
[AT] More than two dozen hopeful pilots who were caught cheating on a written test in September 2022 while attending the Army’s flight school at Fort Rucker,
...soon to be renamed Fort Novosel, according to previous announcements...
Alabama, received a second chance and passed a retest on Thursday, according to command officials and an internal investigation.

Army Times obtained a 212-page internal investigation by an Army Aviation Center of Excellence officer detailing the cheating ring among officers and warrant officers attending the service’s initial entry rotary wing training course. They used an “altered” version of an official publication — which Army Times also obtained — that contained the answers to an open-book doctrine exam.

Aviation Center of Excellence spokesperson Lt. Col. Andy Thaggard confirmed the violations in a statement emailed to Army Times on Thursday in response to questions about the investigation. The spokesperson stressed that “all flight school students, regardless of if they are from the U.S. Army or one of our Allies and Partners, are briefed multiple times during orientation about...standards and expectations — including the Honor Code.”

Thaggard added that the center’s top general, Maj. Gen. Michael McCurry, met individually with the implicated students and decided to give “each Soldier...an opportunity to successfully complete flight school.”

None of the students faced court-martial for the cheating, nor did they receive any administrative punishments that would “have a lasting effect on their career,” Thaggard added in a phone interview.

Government Corruption
U.S. no stranger to interfering in other elections
[WND] One professor's database cites 81 attempts by the United States to influence elections in other countries.

So why do we pretend we don't interfere in our own?

The CIA accused Russia of interfering in the 2016 presidential election by hacking into Democratic and Republican computer networks and selectively releasing emails. But critics might point out the U.S. has done worse things.

The U.S. has a long history of attempting to influence presidential elections in other countries — it's done so as many as 81 times between 1946 and 2000, according to a database amassed by political scientist Dov Levin of Carnegie Mellon University.

That number doesn't include military coups and regime change efforts following the election of candidates the U.S. didn't like, notably those in Iran, Guatemala and Chile. Nor does it include general assistance with the electoral process, such as election monitoring.

Levin defines intervention as "a costly act which is designed to determine the election results [in favor of] one of the two sides." These acts, carried out in secret two-thirds of the time, include funding election campaigns, as the U.S. did in Israel, disseminating misinformation or propaganda, training locals of only one side in various campaigning or get-out-the-vote techniques, helping one side design their campaign materials, making public pronouncements or threats in favor of or against a candidate, and providing or withdrawing foreign aid — which we shouldn't be giving in the first place.

Italy's 1948 general election is an early example of a race where U.S. actions probably influenced the outcome. Levin said that U.S. intervention probably played an important role in preventing a Communist Party victory, not just in 1948, but in seven subsequent Italian elections.

But now we often help the bad guys. More and more, we're aiding the Communists, which is not, shall we say, in line with our Constitution.

The U.S. also attempted to sway Russian elections. In 1996, with the presidency of Boris Yeltsin and the Russian economy flailing, President Clinton endorsed a $10.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund linked to privatization, trade liberalization and other measures that would move Russia toward a capitalist economy. Yeltsin used the loan to bolster his popular support, telling voters that only he had the reformist credentials to secure such loans, according to media reports at the time. He used the money, in part, for social spending before the election, including payment of back wages and pensions.

Emphasis added.

[WND] Of all the shared values Americans have held sacred over the centuries, one of the most important has been the conviction that our children are precious, innocent, literally a gift from God, to be cherished and protected — at all costs.

Why then, in today’s America, are so many adults destroying children in a dizzying variety of ways — from aborting them right up to the very moment of birth, to killing them after they’re born, to sexualizing them virtually from birth (Harvard now teaches a course on infants who are "LGBTQIA+," "queer" or "asexual"), to injecting them with an experimental "vaccine" PROVEN to be both ineffective and dangerous, to transporting 2- and 3-year-olds to "drag queen story hour" events glorifying mentally ill, demonically possessed men dressed as women (some with criminal histories of child sexual abuse) who indoctrinate America’s next generation with fantastical stories about heroic LGBT characters?

And that’s just the abuse heaped on infants and toddlers.

As they grow older, America’s children are systematically sexualized in government ("public") school classrooms and after-school LGBT "support clubs," as well as by the ubiquitous, purple-haired, heavily pierced transgender recruiters on social media platforms like TikTok. As a direct consequence, many children are seduced into "identifying" as the opposite gender, or a brand-new imaginary gender. And although too young to drive or vote, they are encouraged, convinced — and permitted by grownups — to take powerful drugs and hormones, and to have their healthy breasts amputated or undergo chemical or surgical castration. The resulting teen transgender suicide rate is "shockingly high."

US slaps sanctions on alleged Hezbollah money man, currency exchange front
[IsraelTimes] Treasury Department accuses prominent economist Hassan Moukalled of assisting Lebanese terror group’s financial operations

The United States on Tuesday slapped sanctions on a high-profile Lebanese economist alleged to be assisting the terror group Hezbollah with its financial operations.

The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against economist and money exchanger Hassan Moukalled; CTEX Exchange, a money service business owned by him; and Moukalled’s sons, Rayyan Moukalled and Rani Moukalled, who the Treasury said in a statement "facilitate Hassan Moukalled and his company’s financial activities in support of Hezbollah."

It said that Moukalled, who frequently appears as an economic analyst on local media, had "worked in close coordination with senior Hezbollah financial officials to help Hezbollah establish a presence in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch...
’s financial system." It said he serves as a financial adviser to the terror group, "carrying out business deals on behalf of the group throughout the region."

The Treasury also alleged that Moukalled’s exchange shop serves as a "financial front company" for Hezbollah.

The sanctions also targeted two other companies owned or controlled by Moukalled, the Lebanese Company for Information and Studies (LCIS) and Lebanese Company for Publishing, Media, and Research and Studies (LCPMR).

Reached by phone, Moukalled denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
and said his businesses are "100% above-board."

The move comes after the US in December slapped terrorism sanctions on two accountants and two companies in Lebanon for providing Hezbollah with financial services.

The penalties targeted Adel Mohamad Mansour, executive director of Hezbollah’s al-Qard al-Hassan group, which has been previously sanctioned by the US, as well as another company he is involved with, al-Khobara for Accounting, Auditing, and Studies.

The sanctions also apply to the firm Auditors for Accounting and Auditing and one of its representatives, Naser Hasan Neser, as well as Hassan Khalil, who the Treasury Department said has been active in helping Hezbollah acquire arms.
An Nahar adds:
As for CTEX, the Treasury said that in mid-2021 Moukalled received a license from Lebanon’s central bank for CTEX to transfer money within Lebanon and abroad, and within a year the company had obtained significant market share within Lebanon’s currency transfer sector and was reportedly “collecting millions of U.S. dollars for the Central Bank of Lebanon.”

“At the same time, CTEX was also providing U.S. dollars to Hezbollah institutions and recruiting money changers loyal to Hezbollah. Hassan Moukalled advocates for CTEX directly to the central bank governor and receives commissions in the hundreds of thousands of dollars daily,” the Treasury added.

Congress members urge removal of UN official for antisemitism exposed by the Times of Israel
[IsraelTimes] 11 House representatives call on UN chief to oust Paleostinian rights official La Belle Francesca Albanese for comments, saying her anti-Jewish bias ’undermines credibility’.

US Congress members on Monday called for the removal of a UN Paleostinian rights official over antisemitic comments exposed by The Times of Israel.

UN Special Rapporteur La Belle Francesca Albanese, who is tasked with investigating Israeli activities in the Paleostinian territories, has a history of antisemitism but has not faced any repercussions from the UN or issued a clear apology.

Albanese said during a 2014 conflict between Israel and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
terror groups that the "Jewish lobby" was in control of the United States.

She has also sympathized with terror organizations, dismissed Israeli security concerns, compared Israelis to Nazis, accused the Jewish state of potential war crimes, said Israel controlled the BBC, and claimed that the Jewish state started wars out of greed.

Albanese attempted to distance herself from the comments in a statement to The Times of Israel, but since the report exposing the comments last month, has denied that the comments are antisemitic and brushed off criticism as "yet another politically motivated attack."

A member of a UN Commission of Inquiry into Israel, Miloon Kothari, has also made antisemitic statements and remains in his position.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
and High Commissioner Volker Turk, 11 Congress members said, "Enough is enough."

"It’s clear from Ms. Albanese’s statements that these comments were not simply a mistake, but rather a fundamental part of her worldview," they said. "Instead of taking responsibility for repeating age-old antisemitic tropes and her incitement to violence, Ms. Albanese attacks those who notice her public comments."

"You have stated that ’there is no room for antisemitism in the UN,’ but it seems you have room for Special Rapporteur Albanese and others who have repeatedly made statements that are antisemitic," the letter said.

The Congress members said Albanese’s rhetoric is part of an anti-Israel pattern at the UN, noting that the General Assembly passed more resolutions criticizing Israel than against all other countries combined last year. The letter also noted Kothari’s statements and antisemitism by the employees of the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, UNRWA.

"This pattern seriously undermines not only the UN’s credibility on issues in Israel and the Paleostinian territories, but also the UN’s commitments to its own chartered principles of tolerance, equal treatment, and impartiality," the letter said. "We urge you to demonstrate that the UN is capable of genuinely addressing antisemitism by removing Ms. Albanese from her post."

The letter was led by US House Representative Brad Sherman, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Democrat, and Representative Dina Titus, a Democrat from Nevada.

"In her remarks Ms. Albanese has managed to insult America, insult American Jews, defame Israel," Sherman told The Times of Israel. "It was time to send the letter to try to deal with the antisemitism that’s coming from someone who claims to be fighting for human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
."

"There are a lot of people of good will around this world who think the Human Rights Council needs to stand up for human rights instead of standing up for antisemitism," he said.

Guterres’s office has previously said that Albanese is an independent investigator appointed by the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and not under the secretary-general’s control.

Albanese, an Italian lawyer, was appointed last year as the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Paleostinian territories. The rapporteur is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council tasked with investigating human rights in Paleostinian areas, publishing public reports and working with governments and other groups on the issue.

"America and Europe, one of them subjugated by the Jewish lobby, and the other by the sense of guilt about the Holocaust, remain on the sidelines and continue to condemn the oppressed — the Paleostinians — who defend themselves with the only means they have (deranged missiles), instead of making Israel face its international law responsibilities," Albanese wrote.

References to Jews and Jewish lobbies wielding disproportionate power are viewed as antisemitic because they conjure age-old tropes and conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the world from the shadows. Many of those stereotypes also depict Jews as greedy.

In response, Israel’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva called the comments "yet another stain on the credibility of this body and yet another example of the impunity that exists today regarding antisemitism and antisemitic comments made by UN officials."

"Antisemitism is a persistent malice that has infected the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Human Rights Council for far too long," the mission said.

Albanese’s statements have also been condemned by the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...the pack of self-imagined masterminds of strategy and intrigue at the service of the Biden Crime Family and a grateful nation...
’s antisemitism envoy Deborah Lipstadt, the US mission to the UN in Geneva, the co-chair of the US House task force on antisemitism, Israeli officials and leading US Jewish groups.

The Paleostinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs defended Albanese, attacking condemnation of her remarks as a "coordinated assault" and "character liquidation."

UN special rapporteurs are supposed to be unbiased, but Albanese refers to Israel as a settler-colonial enterprise and to Jews in Israel and the pre-state British mandate as foreign interlopers subjugating an indigenous Paleostinian population. She has repeatedly justified violence against Israelis, sympathized with terror groups and dismissed Israel’s right to self-defense.

In her first official report to the UN this year, she urged a rejection of the conflict paradigm, describing Israel solely as an oppressor and legitimizing Paleostinian "resistance." She rarely acknowledges Paleostinian terrorism.

Albanese’s "Jewish lobby" comments echoed recent statements by another UN official investigating Israel.

In July last year, Kothari, a member of the UN’s commission of inquiry looking into alleged Israeli crimes, said that social media was "controlled largely by the Jewish lobby." He also questioned why Israel was allowed in the UN. He later apologized after coming under heavy pressure but remains in his position.

Albanese defended Kothari, calling criticism of his remarks "preposterous allegations of antisemitism" and a "smear campaign."

Kothari’s open-ended commission of inquiry has been described as harshly critical of Israel and the country’s backers point out that it almost entirely ignores Paleostinian terror and violence.

US ‘prevented’ South Asia nuclear war in 2019, claims Pompeo
[Dawn] Former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has revealed that India and Pakistain came close to nuclear war in 2019 following the Balakot Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
, and that US intervention helped prevent an escalation, the Press Trust of India and AFP reported.

In Feb 2019, India launched airstrikes inside Pak territory after blaming a turban group for a suicide kaboom that killed 41 paramilitary soldiers in Indian-held Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. Pakistain then shot down an Indian warplane, capturing the pilot.

"I do not think the world properly knows just how close the India-Pakistain rivalry came to spilling over into a nuclear conflagration in February 2019," Mr Pompeio wrote in Never Give an Inch, the memoir of his time as Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
’s top diplomat and earlier CIA chief.

According to the former US diplomat, he was awakened to speak to his then-Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj, who told him that Pakistain was preparing for a nuclear attack in the wake of the air strike and India was preparing its own escalatory response, the Press Trust of India quoted him as saying.

Quoting from his book, Mr Pompeo said that the incident took place when he was in Hanoi for the US-North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
Summit on February 27-28 and his team worked overnight with both New Delhi and Islamabad to avert this crisis.

"I will never forget the night I was in Hanoi, Vietnam when — as if negotiating with the North Koreans on nuclear weapons wasn’t enough — India and Pakistain started threatening each other in connection with a decades-long dispute over the northern border region of Kashmir," he added.

"In Hanoi, I was awakened to speak with my Indian counterpart. He believed the Paks had begun to prepare their nuclear weapons for a strike. India, he informed me, was contemplating its own escalation. I asked him to do nothing and give us a minute to sort things out (sic)," he wrote in his book, which wrongly refers to Ms Swaraj as "he".

"I began to work with Ambassador (then National Security Advisor John) Bolton, who was with me in the tiny secure communications facility in our hotel," he said, adding that he spoke to "the actual leader of Pakistain", then army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

"As one might expect, he believed the Indians were preparing their nuclear weapons for deployment. It took us a few hours — and remarkably good work by our teams on the ground in New Delhi and Islamabad — to convince each side that the other was not preparing for nuclear war," the 59-year-old top former American diplomat wrote.

There was no immediate comment from India’s Ministry of External Affairs or Pakistain’s Foreign Office on Mr Pompeo’s claims.

"No other nation could have done what we did that night to avoid a horrible outcome. As with all diplomacy, the people working the problem set matter a great deal, at least in the short run," he said. "My most senior diplomat, David Hale, had also been the US ambassador to Pakistain and knew that our relationship with India was a priority," Mr Pompeo said.

"General McMaster and Admiral Philip Davidson, the head of what came to be renamed the US Indo-Pacific Command, understood India’s importance, too," he said.

"Although often frustrated by the Indians, US trade representative Robert Lighthizer — a brilliant trade negotiator and a Bob Dole staff alumnus, making him a near-Kansan — was a great partner working to deepen economic ties. We all shared the view that America had to make a bold strategic effort to tighten our ties with India and break the mould with new ideas," PTI quoted Mr Pompeo as writing.

According to AFP, Mr Pompeo writes extensively in the book about his diplomacy with Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
, which included preparing three meetings between the young totalitarian leader and Donald Trump. He recalled a chilling first conversation as he flew into Pyongyang in March 2018 on a clandestine trip as CIA director.

"I didn’t think you’d show up. I know you’ve been trying to kill me," Pompeo quotes Kim as telling him.

"I decided to lean in with a little humor of my own: ’Mr. Chairman, I’m still trying to kill you.’" But Mr Pompeo described a budding understanding with Kim as the Trump administration offered incentives to lower tension.

US Sanctions Iran’s Senior Officials, IRGC Cooperative Foundation
[KhaamaPress] The United States Department of Treasury announced Monday that it sanctioned Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) cooperative Foundation and senior Iranian officials.

According to the statement, the US is imposing sanctions on the organization in accordance with the UK and the EU, as they believe the sanctions "target a key economic pillar of the IRGC".

The sanctioned figures include five IRGC’s board members, the deputy minister of intelligence and security, and four senior IRGC commanders in Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
said the statement.

According to the US, the sanctioned figures are involved in the brutal suppression of the Iranian protesters in Iran, and the imposed sanctions by the US and its allies happened after the violent mostly peaceful crackdown by them.

The protests occurred after the passing of Mahsa Amini, 22; she died while she was in Iran’s morality police custody. Then widespread anti-government demonstrations around the country took place.

According to Brian Nelson, the statement made clear that the US was committed to helping the Iranian people in their efforts to secure human rights

and other fundamental freedoms.

Since the protests began, the US has designated senior members of the IRGC Cooperative Foundation and other senior Iranian officials in a nightly round.

She realized it was a ruse when she saw that only people there were young women... and the Taliban. After informing the students that they could no longer continue their studies, the fundamentalists "began to select the students they liked, including me, and told us that we had to marry them." Fawzia managed to escape and return home, but hours later, the Taliban broke into the house and demanded that her parents give up their daughter.

Amazon under criticize for selling Afghani burqa
[KhaamaPress] Social media users have been criticizing Amazon, one of the largest online shopping platforms for selling Afghani Burqa, a compulsory dressing for Afghanistan women.

Chadari or Afghani burqa has now been put for sell online on Amazon with an average price of $99.00. It is a head-to-toe garment with a fence-style opening for the eyes only.

The online promotional message on Amazon reads as ’EVERY LADY MUST HAVE All covering, even the eyes’.

The reactions of the social media users have been mix of questioning of it was genuine or whether it is to be sold for the Western buyers as there is no Amazon in Afghanistan.

Lynne O’Donnel, a journalist writing for the Foreign Policy has tagged Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon asking him if he was really making money out of selling Chadari.

@JeffBezos — You’re really making money from the forced sequestering of women in #Afghanistan?, Lynne tweeted.

Tucker Carlson Reveals Email that Raises Questions About Hunter Biden's Access to Classified Docs
[Redstate] Tucker Carlson and New York Post columnist Miranda Devine are raising new questions in the wake of now five different tranches of classified documents being found in Joe Biden’s home and at the Penn-Biden Center.

Part of the problem is what’s in those documents — if those documents pertain to Ukraine and things that involved Joe Biden’s family, that could be a big problem if he was taking documents to cover up things related to his family. We do know that some of the documents found at the Penn Biden Center were documents related to Ukraine, dated between 2013 and 2016 at the time Hunter Biden was most active in Burisma and Joe Biden was the point man on Ukraine.

Tucker Carlson highlighted a new email that had been found by Miranda Devine on the infamous laptop which they both believed was an indication of the use of classified information.

As Carlson notes, it reads like it’s written by someone from the State Department with what the U.S. position would be laid out, for example, predicting an escalation of Russia’s “destabilization campaign, which could lead to a full-scale takeover of the eastern region, most critically Donetsk.”

* Did Hunter transmit email from the Delaware residence? Did he use a USG account or web service provider, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. ?

* Were topical or 'drop site' or 'personal meet (PM)' instructions found on the laptop?

* Were banking transactions or monetary transfers conducted on the laptop? Were narcotics transactions, banking and or accounting data, or other potential criminal activity conducted on the laptop?

* Were email messages to or from foreign contacts and overseas internet providers found on the laptop?

* Was the 'big guy' info copied (CC or BCC) on any email from the laptop?

* If the laptop contained foreign contacts, was the 'big guy' info-copied?
Was anyone else (foreign or US Person) info-copied (CC or BCC) ?

Joy Behar will declare victory. Legally Blonde will prove to be a closer approximation of real juris prudence as compared whatever DC court that hosts this debacle of justice.

In a real court of law the prosecutor’s investigators would search the database of classified documents and find the document that Hunter cribbed. There would be a plea deal. Joe would then pardon Hunter. The end state is pretty much the same.

US military kills two Al-Shabaab members in new airstrike

[ShabelleMedia] At the request of the Federal Government of Somalia and in support of Somali National Army engagements
...every such report seems to start this way nowadays...
against al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
, the U.S. Africa Command conducted a collective self-defense strike on Jan. 23, 2023.

The strike occurred in a remote area near Xaradheere, Somalia,
...alternate spelling Harardhere...
approximately 396 km northeast of Mogadishu where Somali forces were conducting operations.

The initial assessment is the strike killed two al-Shabaab terrorists.

Given the remote location of the operation, the initial assessment is that no civilians were maimed or killed.

A 2nd airstrike reported in central Somalia within two days

[ShabelleMedia] A military official says a second Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
happened around Amara town in central Somalia, targeting al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them...
amid SNA ground operations in the country.

The commander who spoke to Radio Shabelle on condition of anonymity said the airstrike inflicted casualties on al-Shabaab but he could not say the exact number of the fatalities.
That sounds like more than one. Remember to round up the total number of ears to the next even number, guys, then divide by two.
After the overnight raid, al-Shabaab ordered a local telecom company to switch off the phone network to avert further airstrikes from the foreign warplanes, believed to be from the US.

The strike comes as Somali troops and local clan militia are jointly battling against al-Shabaab in the Mudug region, where they managed to retake Harardhere at Indian Ocean cost.

Al-Shabaab despite losing major ground, continued to carry out lethal attacks, mainly boom-mobileing and sieges in Mogadishu in response to the military offensive.

Hawley introduces PELOSI Act - bill to ban stock trades by lawmakers and spouses named after Congress's most prolific trader and former Speaker
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] *snicker* Troll level 10.
  • The PELOSI Act would give members and their spouses six months after first assuming office to divest any holdings or put them in a blind trust

  • Any members found in violation of the bill would have to 'return their profits to American taxpayers'

  • Also on Tuesday Hawley announced he would introduce legislation likely to be less popular with the American public - a bill that would ban TikTok nationwide

The operation was also carried out with weapons such as light guns, PKM, one bomb, and a lot of ammunition, according to the blurb of the Kenyan military.

The Kenyan army captured the life of one of the fighters, while ten others beat feet from the scene of the operation, crossing the Somali border.

Kenya has recently increased border security operations and is at war with al-Shabaab members who carry out attacks inside the country.

Israel allows Palestinian cleric probed for incitement to fly to Morocco
[IsraelTimes] MKs aim fire at authorities for allowing former grand mufti Ekrima Sabri to take off for conference hosted by arm of Islamic body charged with protecting al-Aqsa Mosque.

A controversial Moslem holy man under investigation in Israel for comments praising a Paleostinian terrorist was nonetheless allowed to leave the country to attend a conference in Morocco, according to Hebrew language media, sparking condemnation from conservative politicians.

Sheikh Ekrima Sabri,
...born in Qalqilya in the West Bank and resident in East Jerusalem, he is known familiarly by his followers as Sheikh Sabri. Yasser Arafat appointed him Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine in 1994, where he served until Mahmoud Abbas fired him in 2006 for overweening arrogance and a distinct lack of diplomacy. Thereafter he busied himself preaching at the Al Aqsa mosque and organizing anti-Israel activities, periodically earning an arrest by the Israeli authorities...
a former grand mufti of Jerusalem, flew to the north African kingdom last week to take part in a conference hosted by the Bayt Mal al-Quds al-Sharif Agency, the Walla news site reported. The Rabat-controlled arm of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is charged with protecting Moslem holy sites and preserving Paleostinian culture in the holy city.

Sabri was allowed to fly despite having been questioned by police earlier this month on suspicion of inciting terror, over comments he made to the family of slain Paleostinian gunman, Udai Tamimi, the report said.

Tamimi shot and killed Sgt. Noa Lazar during an attack on a Jerusalem-area checkpoint on October 8, according to police. He was shot to death following a week-long manhunt while trying to attack security guards near the entrance to the West Bank settlement of Ma’ale Adumim.
No doubt he deserved it. All those Tamimis are troublemakers once they’ve been toilet trained.
During the visit, Sabri encouraged other young Paleostinians to join the "family of deaders," and that such a status was "sublime and divine, and to be aspired to."
Sheikh Sabri has thus far denied himself that joy, we note.
Sabri was grilled by police on January 2 following pressure from right-wing groups to investigate him over the comments. He was released home, and police have yet to transfer the case for charges to be filed, the State Prosecutor’s Office told Walla.

Police declined to place a travel ban on Sabri, despite a history of run-ins with the law, mostly over fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
sermons in which he has expressed support for jacket wallahs and Holocaust denial.

In December 2021, authorities placed a four-month travel ban on Sabri after right-wing group Im Tirtzu filed a complaint over remarks by the sheikh in which he appeared to warn of violence in response to Jewish visits to the Temple Mount.

May Golan, a low-level minister in premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, accused of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara for "dealing with nonsense, instead of doing her job."

"Once a terrorist, always a terrorist! It is our duty to prosecute this despicable inciter and initiate a process of denying citizenship to a supporter of terrorism of the lowest kind," Golan said in a statement.

Members of Netanyahu’s coalition have clashed repeatedly with Baharav-Miara as they seek to unravel and reconfigure parts of Israel’s judiciary.

Across the aisle, National Unity MK Sharren Haskel described Sabri being allowed to leave as a "blunder." "While an investigation against him for incitement and calls to murder is ongoing in Israel, he slips abroad and continues to incite against Israel," she tweeted.

US finalizing plans to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine, US officials say
[CNN] The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send US-made Abrams tanks to Ukraine and could make an announcement as soon as this week, according to three US officials familiar with the deliberations.

The timing around the actual delivery of the tanks is still unclear and it normally takes several months to train troops to use the tanks effectively, officials said.

An announcement about the tanks could be part of an attempt to break a diplomatic logjam with Germany, which indicated to the US last week that it would not send its Leopard tanks to Ukraine unless the US also agreed to send its M1 Abrams tanks.

Top national security officials in the administration have been actively considering steps they could take to convince Germany to send the Leopards.

On Friday, at a meeting of western defense leaders in Germany, the US and its allies failed to convince German officials to send the Leopards as part of Berlin’s next round of military assistance to Ukraine. But on Tuesday, the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said "We are preparing our decision, which will come very soon" on the tanks.
Looks like a deal with Germany was worked out, beginning with a company of Leopard 2A6s.
Later on Tuesday German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has decided to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine after "months of debate."

#6  The Abrams will come out of mothball storage and will most likely be the M1A1 or the M1A2. The US still lists part of it as Top Secret, so parts will have to be stripped off and sanitized for export. On top of that headache, they will have to build out infrastructure for the repair of the tanks in Ukraine as the turbine engine is so different than the diesel the Leopard and Russian tanks use. On top of that Ukrainian mechanics will need to be trained to service the tank as well as new tankers will be trained on a tank that is so much different than their old Soviet ones it will be like a fighter pilot learning to fly a UFO.

So at the earliest we could see Abrams at the front in fall. Leopards will be there sooner as the support and supply network is already in place in Poland and is easy to build slightly forward to Ukraine.

Gulf states to experience low demand for oil, new Survey reveals
Thoughts, dear Reader?
[Garowe] The economies in the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council will grow this year at half the rate of 2022 as oil revenues take a hit from an expected mild global slowdown, according to the median view from a Rooters poll of economists.

Crude oil prices, a major driver for Gulf economies, are down more than a third from last year's highs and were expected to remain under pressure this year over fears of a recession in major economies sapping demand.
It’s a little late to fear a recession when the usual indicator — 6 months/2 quarters of negative GDP growth — has apparently already happened. Although I really do wonder how much the oil price drop is related to new discoveries around the world.
Overall growth in the six GCC economies was forecast to average 3.3 percent and 2.8 percent this year and next respectively, the Jan. 9-23 poll showed, down from 4.2 percent and 3.3 percent in the previous poll.

"The outlook for 2023 is more cautious given the weaker external environment, although the GCC will likely continue to outperform many developed economies in terms of GDP growth," wrote Khatija Haque, head of research and chief economist at Emirates NBD.

"While oil and gas output growth is expected to slow this year, continued investment to boost production capacity in the region should see the sector contribute positively to headline GDP again in 2023."

Brent crude is expected to average $89.37 a barrel in 2023, nearly 4.6 percent lower than the $93.65 consensus in a November survey and lower than an average of $99 per barrel seen last year, a separate Rooters poll showed.

Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
, the region's largest economy and top crude oil exporter, was forecast to grow 3.4 percent this year and 3.1 percent in 2024, slightly outperforming the region as a whole. The economy expanded at a record pace of 8.8 percent in 2022.

Economic growth in the UAE was expected at 3.3 percent this year, down from 6.4 percent last year.

Among other Gulf countries — Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, Oman, and Bahrain — growth was expected at 2.4 percent - 2.7 percent for 2023. Kuwait was seen growing at 1.7 percent.

Despite lower oil GDP growth, non-oil growth was expected to remain resilient in 2023, economists in the survey said.

Analysts expected continued current account surpluses for the main Gulf economies, based on relatively high oil prices.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait were predicted to see double-digit growth in current account surpluses in 2023, with Oman and Bahrain in single digits.

The inflation outlook was modest, but varied, with the lowest in Oman at 1.9 percent and the highest at 3.1 percent in the UAE.

As Cairo book fair opens, Israel expresses concern over persistent antisemitism
[IsraelTimes] Works at state-run event have included Mein Kampf and Protocols of the Elders of Zion, with a new book on the history of Zionism showing hook-nosed Jews on its cover.

Israel expressed concern on Monday over antisemitic books being sold at Egypt’s state-run book fair.

"We are worried about the persistence of antisemitic features in Egyptian society," read a statement from the Foreign Ministry, "that are expressed in books published and presented in the Cairo International Book Fair."

A particularly egregious example is a new book on the history of Zionism, its cover featuring caricatures of hook-nosed Jewish men rubbing their hands together as they appear to plot against Egypt.

The work, first reported by Kan public broadcaster, also has menorahs, Jewish stars, and a map of the world behind the figures on the cover.

Ostensible Jewish plans to dominate the world is a classic antisemitic trope.

The book was written by Muhamed Medhat Mustafa, an Alexandria-based academic.

Israel also included positive sentiment in its statement.

"We are determined to continue our efforts to strengthen the cooperation with our Egyptian partners in a way that will strengthen the peace, stability, and security," the Foreign Ministry said, "and in parallel also the fight against antisemitism."

The Cairo event is the Arab world’s oldest and largest book fair.

On the situation around Artemovsk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] About talk about the operational environment of Artemovsk.

It is still too early to talk about the operational environment of the Artemov group. After taking Kleshcheevka and advancing towards Krasnoe, our heavy artillery began to cover the Chasov Yar - Artemovsk road going through Krasnoe, but it is still possible to drive along the road, although now this is fraught with the risk of coverage. Nevertheless, this is not yet complete fire control, which can be established in the event of successful assault operations in Krasny and further advance to Chasov Yar.

In the case of another road that goes to Artemovsk from the same Chasov Yar, but to the north, it is not yet actively covered by our artillery and is relatively safe for traffic. Now our troops are fighting street battles in Krasnaya Gora and today they have caught hold of Paraskoveevka, establishing control over which will allow them to bring up artillery and begin to cover this road from the northwest, increasing the pressure of assault groups and DRGs in the direction of this road.

Thus, the operational encirclement of the Artemovskaya grouping can be the result of successful operations in these two areas, and even now our troops have come close enough to solving these problems. The enemy command understands this, and even more so understands the Pentagon, therefore, in the past few days, talk has intensified about the need to retreat from Artemovsk, which the Americans are already talking about as inevitable, trying to sweeten the pill of defeat with talk about the unimportance of Artemovsk.

PS. And yes, we will see Western tanks on the battlefields in the spring. Itis pretty well expected.

More from Rozhin:
On the supply of Western armored vehicles

[ColonelCassad] Regarding the questions why there are no comments on the topic of reports from NATO and the German Defense Ministry on the topic of tanks, I will repeat myself.

Tanks will give, now or a little later - it's not so important. This is essentially a technical question. In the spring, we will see all this on the Ukrainian theater of operations, except perhaps without the Abrams for now.

Accordingly, it is necessary to prepare for this issue by increasing the supply of armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons to the troops and strengthening potentially dangerous areas where the enemy will try to play the card of Western supplies and forcible mobilization of cannon fodder. It also requires avoiding a situation of numerical disproportion, which raises the question of a second wave of partial mobilization.

Actually, one of the main tasks of the RF Armed Forces in the coming months is to grind all this stuff and cannon fodder, preventing a breakthrough of the front somewhere in Zaporozhye or in the LPR, while continuing operations to liberate the western Donbass and the north of the Zaporozhye region (with optional operations in northern regions of Ukraine). If this can be done, Russia will come closer to achieving its strategic goals in the war.

Already, Ukraine is experiencing serious problems with the replenishment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - the resource of volunteers has already been exhausted. Further losses on an industrial scale will further undermine the demographic potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this regard, such battles as "Artyomovskaya meat grinder" have long-term consequences.

Photo play: Deputy chief of the DPR company Harsh: they leave the tanks and run away
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
A REGNUM correspondent visits the repair battalion of the DPR.

“We, like Chinese medicine,” says the deputy chief of the first company of the NM of the DPR with the callsign Severe, “we help equipment to extend its life as much as possible. Our main task is to service the armored vehicle with high quality and in a timely manner, laying in it a margin of safety in advance, so that it fulfills the combat mission and takes the guys out of the battle alive.

Therefore, we check all the important components and assemblies, tighten the tracks, restore the armor and carry out a full maintenance. And if the vehicle arrived to us in a serious condition, then we send it to the main repair battalion, where the tank goes for spare parts or awaits major repairs.

- And what are the main problems of the tanks that come to you?

- Well, most often these are burst pipes, clogged filters. The technique is already quite old, and sometimes this leads to problems with the engine. It happens that the loading mechanism jams, this takes the tank out of combat, sometimes this is fraught with losses. But our tankers are so skilled that they will fight to the last bullet, and they won’t just leave the car like that.

Often Ukrainian tankers will bail if the tank throws a track.. This habit of theirs helped us quickly increase our tank fist. Often there were cases when enemies fled from the encirclement and abandoned all weapons, including armored vehicles.

- What made them abandon tanks, which the Ukrainian army already lacks, and it asks everyone for them ?

- Elementary sloppiness! There were cases when they picked up an absolutely whole tank, which simply ran out of fuel or ammunition. They often abandoned the car with minor breakdowns, especially when they were afraid to get surrounded. Then they left everything and on foot fled from us along the landings.

We approach one of the tanks at the repair site. The vehicle has obviously been in a lot of trouble. Everywhere traces of rust, dents speak of a long military history.

"This is a captured T-64, it burned several times, we took it from the battlefield in a very deplorable state. But our masters repaired it, updated the protection, and now the tank, having received the nickname "Smoked", successfully performs combat missions," said the deputy commander and leads me to another T-64.

The tank's turret is adorned with protection that makes the vehicle look like the Ukrainian Bulat. Sometimes this allows you to mislead the enemy in close combat: he thinks this is his own. True, before the first shot.

Our masters try to "put on their feet" any vehicle. So far, the Russian army is replenishing the fleet with samples of Soviet equipment, but, apparently, we will soon have German Leopards, and maybe American Abrams. True, it is better to fight on Russian ones, but these will come in handy. For the museum.

UK trains over 2700 SNA soldiers, releases £4.5 million for Al-Shabaab war
[Garowe] UK has invested in the training of the Somali National Army [SNA] as one of the strategies to help the country tackle growing security challenges key among them the fight against al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
faceless myrmidons who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

Kate Foster, the outgoing UK envoy to Somalia, noted that the country has immersed itself fully in training and equipping SNA troops at the UK training camp in Baidoa, Southwest, with the soldiers joining their counterparts on the battlefield.

Ms. Foster, who met President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during her farewell over the weekend, noted that they seized the opportunity to discuss "ongoing shared priorities, including security, economic reforms, and humanitarian response efforts".

The two visited the UK Training Centre, where the president spoke to Somali troops and observed Somali instructors providing medical and counter-IED training. The al-Shabaab uses Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs] while initiating attacks across the country.

She confirmed that the United Kingdom as one of the key security partners of Somalia has trained over 2,700 soldiers who have been given 43 vehicles for operations. The soldiers are dispatched to various Forward Operating Bases where they join the rest of the teams trained by other friendly governments.

"United Kingdom is pleased to support the Somali Security Forces. We have now trained over 2700 troops and donated 43 vehicles. We will continue to support the SNA through further strategic training," said Ms. Foster who now ends her three-year stint in Somalia as London's chief envoy.

"We are also supporting Somalia forces on joint operations against al-Shabaab through the UNSOS Trust Fund. UK has contributed £4.5 million this financial year to provide vital logistical capabilities to over 10,000 SNA and medical evacuations of frontline forces, " she added.

Besides the soldiers trained by the United Kingdom, Somalia is also privileged with special assistance from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
which trains Gorgor troops, and the United States which is responsible for training and equipping Danab Special Forces. Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
also recently trained over 5000 soldiers.

Over 200,000 Yazidis live in Germany: Minister
Nicely done, Germany!
[Rudaw] The largest Yazidi community in the world is found in Germany where over 200,000 members of the ethnoreligious group live, Germany’s integration minister told Rudaw last week.

Germany on Thursday recognized the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) crimes against Yazidis as "genocide."

Reem Alabali-Radovan, Germany’s state minister for integration, spoke to Rudaw the previous day, saying the move would play a "significant role" for the status of Yazidis and a "historical move."

She also said that her country is a top destination for those Yazidis who want to live abroad.

"Following the ISIS crimes in 2014, Germany’s states launched special programs to receive refugees. Therefore, the biggest Yazidi diaspora is in Germany. Over 200,000 Yazidis live in Germany. The German government takes steps [in relation to this issue] and this is very important for me," the federal minister told Rudaw’s Alla Shally.

ISIS attacked the disputed town of Shingal in the summer of 2014, killing and kidnapping thousands of Yazidis, with the fate of a large number of them remaining unclear.

More than 6,000 Yazidis were kidnapped when ISIS attacked their heartland of Shingal in Nineveh province, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Office for Rescuing Kidnapped Yazidis. Over 2,000 remain missing.

The resolution by the Bundestag urges German courts to take more action against suspects involved in the crimes and to increase financial support for Yazidis.

German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock tweeted in the Kurmanji and Sorani dialects of the Kurdish language on Thursday, saying that no parliamentary decision can undo the sufferings of Yazidis but "I am deeply convinced that this decision makes a difference: a crucial step towards acknowledging suffering and towards justice for the survivors."

Germany has been an essential member of the global coalition against ISIS.

"The federal government does many things [for Yazidis]. For instance, it has a program for Yazidis in Iraq and the [Kurdistan] Region. Germany also provides financial support to the area [Shingal] which has been destroyed," the German minister told Rudaw.

She added that Germany also provides psychological support to the survivors.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Economics of war - how much does it cost to train Ukrainians to fight on the Abrams
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary in italics by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] Let's say right away: for a number of completely objective reasons, it is impossible to accurately assess either the cost of a tank or the cost of training crews. The most important of them is that the accounting of the modern army is incredibly complex. In 2021, the average American soldier cost the US $136,000 a year, a small cost by the standards of the country.

How much the equipment removed from storage costs is a rather philosophical question, and the answer to it depends on the point of view. A similar story is with staff training - we doubt that insurance and a relative support program will be included in this amount. In the case of training Ukrainian tank crews, it is even difficult to predict the program: for an American tank crew member, it takes 22 weeks (about six months), for a repairman - about 13 weeks (3 months), and equipment for various combat vehicle systems - from 22 to 34 weeks. The commander needs more time, but there are huge doubts that the Ukrainians will be trained for so long.

According to rough estimates, a two-month course for one Ukrainian tanker will cost $50,000-200,000, including live firing and work with equipment and simulators. The training of 100 crews will cost $100 million. But maybe more - we don't know how many combat firing and operating hours are included, and one real shot from a cannon costs from $1 to $10 thousand, depending on the projectile. So even $100 million can easily turn into a billion, especially considering the retraining of technical staff.

The supply of modern combat vehicles, at least from storage, is a serious expense. Even for fantastically wealthy America, an extra couple of billion in aid is not as easy as it sounds. And we are not talking about aviation - that's where every plane really becomes golden.

https://t.me/suverennews/855 - zinc

PS. Regarding the question raised of the cost of training Ukrainian cannon fodder to drive American tanks. Here it is worth understanding the following things.

1. Training is carried out at the expense of already allocated funds.

2. The money goes to Pentagon defense contractors, it doesn't go to Ukraine.

3. Any corruption component remains an internal affair of the American public-private defense partnership.

4. From the point of view of the total costs of the war in Ukraine, the cost of training cannon fodder is insignificant.

Poles again promise to save Europe from Russian tanks
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Petr Akopov

[RIA] "The position of Germany is unacceptable... I'm trying to weigh the words, but I'll say it straight. Ukraine and Europe will win this war - with or without Germany. However, it depends on Germany whether they want to join the mission to end the barbarism of Russia or are going to sit back hands, dooming yourself to be on the wrong side of history."

No, this is not said by Zelensky and not by the former Ukrainian ambassador to Berlin , Melnyk. This is a quote from an interview with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to Wnp.pl. There are many more attacks against Germany:

"The Germans fell into a trap that they set for themselves. For many years they were engaged in a policy of rapprochement with Russia. They hoped that they would be able to appease the Russian bear with generous contracts. This policy failed, and it is still difficult for the Germans to admit their mistake. The slogan of Wandel durch Handel ("Change through trade." - Approx. ed.) Has become synonymous with an epoch-making mistake. I constantly urge Olaf Scholz to take decisive action. Germany is a powerful state both economically and militarily. <...>

The war is here and now. The Ukrainian defenders of Europe need tanks right now. Do the Germans want to keep them in warehouses until Russia defeats Ukraine and knocks on the gates of Berlin?

Morawiecki not only scares Germany, but also promises to save Europe from the Russians:

"We will build a "smaller coalition" of states that are ready to transfer part of their modern equipment, modern tanks to the warring Ukraine. We will not passively watch Ukraine bleed. The Ukrainian people are fighting for our freedom. Sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine is a question Polish and European state interests. We will not allow Russia to capture Kiev and then set fire to all of Europe."

What happens? On behalf of Europe, the leader of Poland speaks, reproaching the Germans for indecision, which may lead to the fact that Russian tanks will be near Berlin. But in addition to reproaches, Morawiecki says that he will win this war anyway - not Poland, but Europe will win. And Germany will be on the wrong side of history, or even internationally isolated, according to Poland's deputy foreign minister.

The point here is not at all in tanks: the Poles have long been putting pressure on the Germans in every possible way, and for a variety of reasons without them.

The apotheosis of the claims was the official demand for 1.3 trillion euros in reparations for damage caused during the Second World War - absolutely provocative, given the fact that a third of the current territory of Poland is former German lands transferred to it by Stalin. What is Warsaw trying to achieve and why is it behaving this way?

Usually, the Polish arrogance is explained by the support of the Anglo-Saxons: the Poles, they say, feel the support of Washington and London , therefore they behave so defiantly.

It is beneficial for the Anglo-Saxons to use Warsaw to put pressure on Berlin in order to prevent unequivocal German (and even German-French) leadership in Europe, and the Poles sincerely believe that they can become one of the main pillars of the European Union - at least one of the four key powers. The Ukrainian conflict gives them an excellent reason for this: not only the EU , but the West as a whole needs Poland as a territory for the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and Europe's strategic gap with Russia makes Poland the main shield in the way of Russian expansion.

This is what the Poles are trying to sell to the West, but something else is more important to understand the role of Poland. The trouble with the Poles is that they want to take someone else's place in the eyes of the Germans - the place of Russia. Although in fact Poland is the former Ukraine, that is, a part of the world alien to Europeans (and Ukraine is the future Poland, in other words, what the Europeans want to make of the Independent).

Poles' claims to European leadership are ridiculous: since the time of Charlemagne (since the 9th century), Europe has been a German home. Yes, there are also other peoples in it - primarily Romanesque - but they all revolve around the Germanic tribes (which include the Franks, that is, the French). The Slavs inhabiting Eastern Europe have never been and will never be perceived by the Germans as full-fledged Europeans, that is, as their own: at best, they can be baptized into their faith, at worst, simply assimilated. But in any case, they must be subordinated to the real - Western - Europe : no independent and even less Russian-oriented existence is unacceptable.

Poles are the closest relatives of Russians: by blood, but not by historical path. By choosing the Catholic faith, the Poles linked themselves with German Europe, remaining ethnically alien to it, but more or less understandable and generally within their orbit. It was Poland that was for Europe and the Germans the main eastern neighbor, the embodiment of Slavism (but not Orthodoxy), behind which loomed incomprehensible Muscovites-schismatics with their Tartaria.

So it was until the 17th century, while Poland, in union with the semi-Russian principality of Lithuania, owned a considerable part of the Western Russian lands. If in 1612 the Poles had held on to the Moscow throne and Russia had disappeared, Poland would have remained the main Slavic power for Europe, with which they would have fought and which, sooner or later, would have been subjugated to their influence.

But then the Russians appeared on the European arena, who first took Kyiv from the Poles, and then went to the Baltic. Petrovsky's "window to Europe" became a death sentence for an already decrepit Poland - it was in the Baltic states that the Russians united with the Germans. Russia has its own Germans, the Baltics. And now for Europe the main Slavs have already become not the Poles, but the Russians.

In 1760, the Russians took Berlin - yes, along with the southern Germans, the Austrians, but there was no place left for any Poland in Europe. It was divided between the Russians and the Germans for a century and a half. And only the death of two empires, German and Russian, gave the Poles a chance to revive their state.

Could it be successful? It is not known, because the Poles immediately tried to restore the situation of the 16th-17th centuries, that is, to become the main eastern state for Europe. And for this they relied on the isolation of the USSR , on the constant confrontation between Europe and Russia, without thinking that they themselves would become its first victim. However, they fell even earlier - in 1939, when the Germans decided to liquidate the Polish state, and the Russians agreed to partition it in order to return their historical lands.

But even this experience taught Poland nothing. The state, restored in 1944, did not regain the eastern lands (populated mainly by Ukrainians and Belarusians), but in return received more than generous compensation in the form of a huge piece of German lands - parts of Prussia , Pomerania and Silesia. At the same time, the new Poland ended up in Moscow's orbit - in the socialist camp, in which it behaved like one of the most disobedient.

The collapse of the Eastern bloc and the collapse of the USSR brought Poland back to Europe, but even there the Poles soon became rebels defending intolerant values and their own independence. At the same time, they remained true to the interwar times, again relying on playing off Europe and Russia. And in 2013, with the beginning of the active phase of the struggle for Ukraine, Poland decided that its finest hour had come.

And if she succeeds in wresting the Square from the hands of Moscow , then she can become the most important country in Europe. Though not equal to Germany, but at least it will again be the main eastern pillar of Europe, the center of the alliance of the countries of the Baltic-Black Sea belt and a shield from the Muscovites.

That is, in Warsaw they want to return the 16th century - both for themselves and for Russia. The task is ambitious, but why spread rot on the Germans ahead of time, without waiting for the defeat of Russia? Why these trillion claims? To humiliate Berlin? And what will happen if Europe, on behalf of which Poland speaks, loses Ukraine to Russia? What will this mean for Warsaw? Even if, during the collapse of Ukraine, she gets a piece of Nezalezhnaya, will this strengthen her position in the confrontation with Germany?

Does Warsaw really believe that they can, if not outplay the Franco-German alliance in determining the future of Europe and its politics, then become a full-fledged part of it? Hopes for Anglo-Saxon help in this struggle are ridiculous: Washington and London can use Warsaw in intra-European games, but they will never place their main bet on it.

Therefore, the only situation in which the Polish strategy would seem justified is a war, a long and exhausting conflict between Europe and Russia. The longer it lasts in the form of a real war for Ukraine, the more attention will be paid to Poland by the powers, both European and Anglo-Saxon. But what will happen "at six o'clock in the evening after the war" when attempts to grow a "new Poland" out of Ukraine fail? It is better for Warsaw not to think about this.

Since there is simply no chance that the window to Europe cut by Peter I will be boarded up forever: sooner or later it will open again. This means that the Poles will not again become the main Slavic people for the Germans - this place will again be occupied by the Russians. And the situation will return not to the beginning of the 17th century, but to the 18th century. This is not about a new division of Poland, but about the fact that at the next round of the restoration of German-Russian relations, it will simply be pushed aside - into a dark corner of history.

If they are used the way the Russian would use them, then no, they won't make a lot of difference.

If they are used the way NATO/US doctrine says they should be used, it will be a Sunday drive to Moskva.

#6  Sending tanks is one thing. Sending tank recovery vehicles and the full maintenance / logistical package is another.

#7  So everything about this war has demonstrated that tanks should not be used in this war. Our new plan is to send in a bunch of tanks to be operated by Ukrainians still on their learners permits. The mastermind of this grand strategy is Miley, the genius behind our Afghan withdrawal. Lindsey Graham is big proponent of this excellent plan. I feel sort of pessimistic.

Texas leads 20 Republican states in suing Biden admin over migrant parole program
[FoxNews] A coalition of 20 states and a top conservative legal group are suing the Biden administration over its recently expanded humanitarian parole program that allows tens of thousands of migrants from designated countries a month into the U.S., arguing that the program is unlawful.

The lawsuit, filed by Texas and America First Legal in the Southern District of Texas, is joined by 19 additional states who are seeking to block the Biden administration’s parole program, which allow up to 30,000 migrants from Haiti, Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela into the U.S. each month.

The Biden administration announced the program for Venezuelans in October, which allowed a limited number to fly directly into the U.S. as long as they had not entered illegally, had a sponsor in the U.S. already and passed certain checks.

Earlier this month, President Joe Biden announced that the program would be expanding to include Haitians, Nicaraguans and Cubans and that the program would allow up to 30,000 a month into the U.S. It allows for migrants to receive work permits and a two-year authorization to live in the U.S. and was announced alongside an expansion of Title 42 expulsions to include those nationalities.

The lawsuit says the program is also unlawful as it did not engage in the notice-and-comment rulemaking required by the Administrative Procedure Act — by which a number of immigration policies have been at least temporarily struck down in recent years. It also argues that the states "face substantial irreparable harms from the Department’s abuse of its parole authority, which allow potentially hundreds of thousands of additional aliens to enter each of their already overwhelmed territories." They argue that states face additional costs for health care, education and other social services.

The lawsuit also marks the latest in a flurry of legal challenges to the Biden administration’s policies by America First Legal — a conservative legal group launched by former Trump White House official Stephen Miller, described as being "at the forefront of the legal battle to save America’s borders from complete annihilation at the hands of this lawless administration."

Miller labeled the Biden program as "pre-amnesty for what would be illegal aliens before they even arrive at our border." He also compared it to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which granted protection from deportation to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as minors.

The states joining onto the lawsuit with Texas are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.

#1  So states have to sue the DC Swamp LSD's to get it to adhere to US LAW and the US Constitution, and carry out their sworn duties?

Failures, which have already resulted in:

Drug trafficking cartel mules cakewalking into the USA.
Which resulted in an estimated 200,000+ imported illegal drug deaths in 2022 alone. CDC data says 66.5% of which involved synthetic opioids, primarily illicitly manufactured fentanyl or fentanyl, during 2022

12.4++ Million Illegals NOW residing in the USA, costing taxpayers jobs, plus costing the US taxpayer approximately $132 billion annually. While paying NO Social Sec., Income, employment taxes...other than sales taxes.

Plus over 1,000+ ANTI-USA suspected terrorists & Socialists walking in, via the Southern Open Border

Question:
Will the SCOTUS vote on Political Party agenda lines, or actually ENFORCE the US Constitution.

#3  The Constitution was ratified by the states. The states created the Federal government. It is mysterious to me why states can not sue the entity that they created. The Feds were chartered to perform several jobs none of those had anything to do being a bathroom ref. How can nobody have standing to question the derelict DC dingleberries?

Spooks in Silicon Valley: Flow of U.S. intelligence analysts into Big Tech jobs raises alarm
[JustTheNews] Those who once served to protect the nation are now using their intel smarts to regulate speech in America.

As Congress and the courts delve deeper into federally sanctioned censorship by Big Tech, a troubling revolving door has emerged between the U.S. intelligence community and the Big Tech giants on the front lines of one of the fiercest battles over free speech in modern American history.

A Just the News review of LinkedIn employment histories of senior Big Tech executives found that at least 200 former workers of the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, National Security Council and Homeland Security Department have landed Silicon Valley jobs, many within content moderation units regulating supposed "disinformation" and disproportionately throttling news and opinion deviating from approved, left-tilting norms.

These individuals range from Aaron Berman, who spent a decade and a half as a CIA analyst before joining Facebook parent Meta as product policy manager for disinformation, to James Baker, the former FBI general counsel recently fired by Elon Musk as Twitter's chief lawyer over a spat about prior review of "Twitter Files" releases exposing past censorship by the platform. Baker was one of the key FBI figures involved in obtaining a FISA warrant based on the now-debunked Steele dossier to surveil onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The spooks-to-Silicon-Valley pipeline has sent an army of federal agents, intel analysts and even psychological operations experts once trained with taxpayer money to fight foreign enemies or capture big criminals into higher-paying private sector jobs where those same skills now target Americans' opinions in the name of fighting "disinformation."

None of the former intel world employees contacted by Just the News returned phone or email requests for comment. But in videos posted online, some acknowledged they are part of a new vanguard of Big Tech censors operating in a world where there is little consensus about what should be done and what is legal.

"There is very little agreement whether we should be leaving more content up or taking more content down," Berman said in a video posted on Meta's site. "With any particular rule or issue that we're looking at where something has come up, where the rules are not 100 percent clear, we're not going to make everybody happy."

Berman, whose LinkedIn biography boasts he used to prepare the presidential daily brief at the CIA, acknowledged there is some discomfort in the power he now wields in his new role in Big Tech to decide the difference between "harmful content" and free speech.

"It's a balance," he said in the video. "I think it should make me uncomfortable, and all of us who do this work."

Some of the federal intel veterans are less inhibited about expressing biases. For example, Nick Rossmann, former CIA analyst and current senior manager of Trust & Safety at Google, overtly supported defeated 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, said Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner should be strangled and declared, "Anti-vaxxers are like Nazis."

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Rossmann even seemed to wish death on elderly Trump voters, tweeting, "I hope they cough on their grandparents, who voted for Trump, & get to rot."

Jacqueline Lopour, another Hillary Clinton supporter and former CIA analyst — she served for 10 years in the agency — is currently Google Senior Manager, Intel Collection, Trust & Safety. In that capacity, she manages "Intel operations spanning multiple threat verticals, including violent extremism, cyber threats, misinformation, hate speech, spam, fraud, security and privacy, and more," according to her LinkedIn bio.

In a 2017 Canadian Broadcasting Company interview, Lopour invoked her CIA experience to uncritically vouch for the agency's assessment that Russia meddled in U.S. politics to tip the 2016 election in favor of Donald Trump, saying, "They [Russia] deliberately released the DNC information to @wikileaks ... with the specific motivation of helping Trump get elected."

Further LinkedIn profile checks revealed several other key members of Big Tech teams who served in either the Department of Defense, CIA, FBI, NSA, or DHS. The growing pipeline of intelligence and law enforcement officials was previously documented in detail by an anonymous Twitter account posted by the user @NameRedacted247 in a 30-part Twitter thread.

Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue with a video message, touting his proposal to end the revolving door between the Deep State" and the "tech tyrants" by imposing "a 7-year cooling off period, before any employee of these powerful agencies is allowed to take a job at a major platform."

Recent reporting "shows the FBI and other rogue agencies have been systematically colluding with former national security officials placed in high positions at Twitter and very likely other companies to advance their censorship regime," said Trump.

"This anti-American effort," he went on, has been "working to silence dissenting opinions on COVID and crucial issues in public health and on the [2020] election." The suppression of dissenting doctors and health experts "had nothing to do with science" or "saving lives," he alleged. "This was about government working with powerful corporations to seize power over you, the American people."

Twitter currently employs at least 10 former FBI agents, according to LinkedIn profile checks performed by Just The News.

Just the News reached out to several former members of the intelligence community now employed by Big Tech for comment but has received no replies.

Just the News also reached out to Facebook, Google, and Twitter, along with the FBI, NSA, and DOD, but only received a brief response from the CIA which read, "CIA's intelligence mission is foreign focused, and the Agency at all times abides by US laws, regulations, and executive orders that prohibit unlawful collection related to US persons."

The FBI field office in Washington, D.C. refused to comment directly, while the NSA recommended reaching out and questioning each Big Tech firm individually.

Perspective from the Breakaway Republics: Invasion of Ukraine: January 24th, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Kindly note that several entries in this article may have been removed because they included discussions of the grand strategic level.

[NewsFrontInfo] 23:58 Official summary of the DPR Representative Office in the JCCC from 00:00 01/24/2023 to 00:00 01/25/2023

Over the past day Representation reported about 14 facts of firing by the VFU.

-- In the Donetsk direction, the enemy fired five rounds from 155mm artillery.
-- On Gorlovsky six artillery attacks from 155mm artillery.
-- On Ilovaisky two artillery attacks from the Himars MLRS.
-- On Volnovakhsky one artillery attack from 155mm artillery.

Having fired 66 units of various ammunition.

Under enemy fire were areas of five settlements of the Republic: the capital city of Donetsk (Kyiv, Kuibyshevsky, Petrovsky districts), Gorlovka (Nikitovsky district), Aleksandrovka, Vladimirovka, Ilovaisk.

Over the past day, information was received about the death of a civilian - a man, in Aleksandrovka.

Wounds of varying severity were received by five civilians in Ilovaisk and previously liberated Vladimirovka.

A total of 14 housing constructions were damaged in the Kievsky and Kuibyshevsky districts of Donetsk, Vladimirovka and Aleksandrovka, as well as two2 civil infrastructure facilities.

At the previous 24 hours, 18 artillery attacks were recorded from the side of the VFU.

22:05 The attack on Zaporozhye continues: "Hyacinths" are working on the equipment and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine -video

The offensive operation has slowed down in a number of sectors of the front, the enemy's defenses are being broken into with large calibers.

Scouts on the front line identify the accumulation of forces and enemy firing points.

Over the front line, quadrocopters work around the clock.

Reconnaissance provides the coordinates of artillery that strikes at targets.

21:55 Frontline summary January 24:

In the Zaporizhia direction (Fig. 1) and near Donetsk, without any special changes. Ours are firing artillery at the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, positional battles continue.

Near Artyomovsk (Fig. 2), Wagner PMC fighters are advancing towards Ivanovsky, where the road to Chasov Yar and Konstantinovka passes, supplying the Bakhmut group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Artemovsk. For the same purpose, they attack in the Predtechino area. Fighting continues in the Paraskoveevka area. The capture of Ivanovsky and the establishment of control over the supply route significantly brings the operational encirclement of Artemovsk closer.

In the area of Nova Kakhovka, our military stopped an attempt to force the Dnieper, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to about 100 people.

The front “breathed” in the Ugledar direction (Fig. 3) - in a number of sectors the enemy’s defenses were crushed, there was a struggle to cover Vugledar. According to information from the field, our troops received an order to move to the West. They note that the current offensive operation takes into account the previous experience of battles, the command does not see the expediency of taking a settlement head on.. Also near Donetsk, the battles for Maryinka, attacks on Pervomaiskoye and Novobakhmutovka continue. According to the latest data, ours took Vodiane.

I want to say that the current initiative actions of our army on different sectors of the front are greatly disorienting the enemy. Kyiv does not know at what point in time and exactly where our army will go on the offensive, and this introduces additional confusion in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The main thing is to use these opportunities and realize the advantage.

APU attacked Gorlovka. There are hits on the school, residential buildings. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. For the third night in a row, strikes have been made on Ilovaisk, deep in the rear of the DPR. The Armed Forces of Ukraine dropped an explosive device from a drone in the village of Gornal, Kursk region. Two wounded. In Berdyansk, another terrorist attack - the car of a local businesswoman was blown up. So far no details.

Ours destroyed the Ukrainian air defense system Buk-M1 in the area of the settlement. Peski-Radkovskie Kharkiv region.

It is restless in Kyiv. At the request of the United States, personnel changes took place, which affected both the Cabinet of Ministers, regional administrations, and the office of the president. I think that the epic with tanks is moving towards its logical conclusion - deliveries. At the same time, the head of the German Defense Ministry, at a meeting with the NATO Secretary General, said that the alliance should not become a party to the conflict in Ukraine.

To which Stoltenberg replied that Germany's decision on tanks would soon follow, and all countries that have these tanks can prepare them for transfer to Ukraine. The Czech Republic, however, has already been christened - said that they need tanks to ensure their own country's security. The German concern Rheinmetall reported that it was ready to deliver 139 tanks to Ukraine: 29 by April-May 2023, 22 tanks by the end of 2023-beginning of 2024. Today, American journalists reported.

The army of Belarus officially opened warehouses for long-term storage of military equipment and began to get vehicles from there for combat coordination of the armies of Belarus and Russia. Ukraine is nervous and offers to sign a non-aggression pact.

As for our weapons, Medvedev continued his series of trips to defense enterprises. He visited Izhevsk, held a meeting at the plant of the Kalashnikov concern and said that deliveries to the RF Armed Forces of reconnaissance and attack drones and loitering ammunition for the needs of the Northern Military District are increasing. That's good. All this is very necessary for our front.

20:42 Attack near Donetsk: BMPs of the 5th Brigade support the advance in Maryinka with fire -video

The advance of the assault groups in Marinka is supported by the fire of armored vehicles and artillery. Including light armored vehicles, incl. BMP-2 destroying enemy manpower

19:40 Zaporozhye direction:

Kamenskoye - no progress. The enemy from the dominant height conducts artillery shelling

Pubic - success, cleaned up, soon the Russian Armed Forces will go further, reinforcements are coming for further action.

Small Shcherbaki and Shcherbaki - the enemy dug in well. Field commanders (lieutenants) - act competently, send the Armed Forces to Valhalla , little by little. The UAV operates in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

18:43 The situation in the Donetsk-Zaporozhye direction along condition at 17.00 January 24, 2023

At the Orekhovsky sector, units of the 58th Combined Arms Army tried to storm the Novoandreevka-Novodanilovka line, but the offensive failed, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled the attack. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation returned to their original lines.

Additional NLAW ATGM launchers and AGS-17 mounted grenade launchers were delivered to the area of Malaya Tokmachka and Novodanilovka, where units of the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Special Forces Regiment "Gepard" of the National Guard of Ukraine are located.

On the Pologovsky site, Russian servicemen began to advance in the direction of Gulyai-Polye. According to some reports, the Russian Armed Forces squeezed out Ukrainian formations from several strongholds at the Malinovka-Chervonoe line.

Anti-aircraft missiles for MANPADS and aiming devices were delivered to the forward positions of the 253rd battalion of the 129th troop brigade in Belogorye and Lugovskoye.

Artillerymen of the Russian Armed Forces are conducting massive fire on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Novoselka-Bolshaya Novoselka line in the Vremyevsky sector.

In the Ugledar sector, soldiers of the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet and the 7th operational-combat tactical formation swooped through the defenses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and occupied summer cottages west of Nikolsky.

At the same time, the RF Armed Forces, unexpectedly for the Ukrainian formations, began to attack Ugledar from the west and south. Now Russian troops are moving towards the settlement, breaking through the lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Members of the 68th opbr and 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in radio communications report large losses in connections. Part of the contingent withdrew to the Yuzhno-Donbass mine #1 for regrouping.

18:05 In the Ugledar direction started movement - now the enemy is being crushed there and the Cascade fighters are moving forward. The best stormtroopers. Behind them are Mariupol, Pavlovka and many other areas that cannot yet be discussed. Now they are moving forward step by step, showing courage, courage, the spirit of the Cascade unit.

18:02 Telegram-channel"Older than Edda": the news feed reports that on the southern front, our troops are advancing in the Zaporozhye direction. Thus, we already have an initiative on two sectors of the front, that is, near Bakhmut and now in the south.

Initiative is actually very important, it allows you to choose where and how to hit. The active defense that we are conducting on the Svatovo-Kremennaya sector of the front does not allow the enemy to maneuver reserves, since at any moment the active defense can turn into an offensive and bring down the front. The Kyiv General Staff understands this very well and tries to predict where we will strike in the near future.

Well, near Bakhmut, the Wagner fighters continue to destroy enemy personnel. By the way, I think that Zaluzhny will now rotate and throw meat from the TRO under Bakhmut in order to bring out the shabby, but still quite combat-ready personnel units.

17:30 Offensive in the Donetsk direction: the situation as of 16.00 January 24, 2023 fromRybar.

- The soldiers of the separate assault battalion "Somalia" in the course of intense fighting occupied the dominant heights north of Vodyany and drove the Ukrainian formations out of the village itself.

- Units of the 11th battalion of the 59th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the settlement, suffered huge losses and retreated to reserve lines. The command of 11 ompb requested the evacuation of personnel from the battle area.

- As a matter of urgency, marines of the 501st battalion of the 36th Infantry Regiment were sent to the line of contact to hold the line. From the airfield in Slavny, two Mi-8 helicopters fire NURs at Vodyany.

- The Armed Forces of Ukraine expect the resumption of a full-scale offensive by Russian troops in several areas, including Pervomayskoye, Marinka, Krasnogorovka and Nevelskoye.

17:01 Defeat of the Ukrainian BMP-2 by the Krasnopol guided projectile. There, by the way, next to the burning BMP in the forest plantation, you can still see the skeleton of some burnt equipment -video.

16:41 RT: DPR civilians continue to suffer from NATO munitions fired by Ukrainian nationalists. This video shows the consequences of artillery attackthe locomotive depot of the rear city of Ilovaisk by American HIMARS. Two employees were injured.

Judging by the found fragments and inspection of the places of arrival, the gunners of the Kyiv regime, presumably, used one of the most deadly modifications of ammunition - M30A1. The M30A1 uses an alternative warhead instead of a cluster warhead. It is completed with 80 thousand tungsten carbide balls.

This projectile is designed to cause maximum harm to civilians. Four of them flew to Ilovaisk. At four in the morning.

16:18 VoenkorKitty: according to my information, they took Vodiane - a settlement west of Donetsk and a couple of kilometers southwest of Avdiivka. Vodyanoye cleared from the enemy, who retreated, gaining a foothold on the hills to the north.

Vodyanoye is part of the large Avdeevsky fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Stretching like a snake for almost 10 kilometers from east to west, from Spartak to Pervomaisky - Netaylovo, Vodyanoye opens a direct path to Karlovka. Its capture is a step towards taking the Avdiivka fortification in pincers and catching the enemy according to the scenario of Soledar Bakhmut.

True, this requires the best attack aircraft in the world (and this is not a figure of speech) in the form of the Wagner detachments. But so far there is not enough Wagner operators for all directions. And the positions of the enemy are stormed by units of the Donbass infantry, tankers and units of the Special Forces.

16:05 Dmitry Medvedev said that the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex have significantly increased the production of reconnaissance and attack drones, as well as loitering ammunition. According to him, the process is going to intensify further.

16:02 Sumy region - explosions.

15:51 "They are not considered soldiers, but meat" - those mobilized from the 25th Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine refused to go to the slaughter, but decided to "defend their rights." It is reported that frames removed a month ago.

15:34 Daniil Bezsonov: the successful advance of our troops continues in the Ugledar direction. The jerk was so coordinated and sharp that it came as a surprise to the enemy. Judging by the radio intercepts, the Ukrainian soldiers on this sector of the front are disoriented and confused. Commanders often do not respond to requests from subordinates due to their flight.
A feature, not a bug.
15:21 Evgeny Prigozhin on the strategic meaning of the battles for Bakhmut:

"The task of taking Bakhmut is to destroy the Ukrainian army in the vicinity of the city and prevent any offensive actions in any direction of the front. All of their combat-ready units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are sent to Bakhmut. And the PMC "Wagner" destroys them, opening up operational opportunities in other areas."

14:40 Exclusive. “Avdievka is already practically ours” – first-hand news from the front line.

A fighter from one of the units in the Avdievka direction tells military commissar Anna Dolgareva about the situation at the front and reveals secret information - Avdievka is almost ours.
Russians have been trying to clear Avdievka since the very start of the war.

14:15 VladlenTatarsky: The 155th Naval Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet and the 7th ranger OBTF went forward in the Ugledar direction. Local message:

"On the left flank (the Shaitanovsky forest area) we entered the first line. To the north of Pavlovka and from Nikolsky we went into the dachas, moving slowly. By interception, the enemy had heavy losses, retreated to the mine. Now the enemy is trying to organize a defense and is introducing reserves into battle."

12:46 The commander of the "Vostok" battalion of the Donetsk People's Republic Alexander Khodakovsky said that Russian troops are advancing in the Ugledar direction

"Our troops have been given a strict order - to the west, - the order is being executed. In a number of areas, the enemy’s defenses have been crushed, there is a struggle to cover Ugledar," Khodakovsky wrote on his TG channel.

He also announced significant confusion and disorganization in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

12:33 The enemy has begun to force Dnieper near Nova Kakhovka, up to 100 APU militants were destroyed during the battle

- In the morning in the area of the settlement Korsunka and Dnepryans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine made an attempt to cross the river. On the opposite bank, our reconnaissance uncovered an accumulation of infantry fighting vehicles and manpower. They were hit by fire.

Six infantry fighting vehicles, three boats, up to 100 fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed, - said the emergency service of the Kherson region. According to our information, some units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed during the crossing of the river by our paratroopers and motorized riflemen.

12:16 Military commissar Poddubny: Russian troops prevented an attempt by Ukrainian units to cross the Dnieper near Nova Kakhovka. The enemy suffered losses

11:37 Another bred out of order vehicles of Ukrainian nationalists. Let me remind you. that several dozen groups of volunteers from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Germany and the USA are actively involved in collections that are directly tailored for the supply of used cars from the countries of the European Union and the number of vehicles supplied by them for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is already in the thousands.

These deliveries are not particularly advertised, unlike the deliveries of helicopters, armored vehicles and artillery systems, but they play an important role in the mobility of the Armed Forces units on the battlefield.

11:34 In the Kremennaya zone, the units of Akhmat, the 57th Pskov Bivision and the 2nd brigade of the 4th Army Corps are moving forward in a coordinated manner.

Near Kremennaya, Russian artillery is working non-stop, grinding the positions of the UAF militants.

11:07 Pesti Srácok: There are rumors in Transcarpathia that at least half of the Ukrainian 128th Mountain Brigade died near Soledar.

The Hungarian edition notes that mobilization is raging in Transcarpathia. Local residents attribute this to the heavy losses of the Ukrainian 128th Mountain Brigade. Despite the total censorship, they see that something terrible is happening. People say that there are many more dead than the Ukrainian authorities admit. So, the refrigerator in one of the settlements is already full of corpses.

The publication reports that the authorities plan to call up 10,000 people from the region by spring.

10:45 The German concern Rheinmetall can deliver 139 Leopard tanks to Kyiv, - RND.

10:40 In the battalion of the Kharkiv territorial defense, only old men went into battle for Bakhmut -a source.

UkroSMI reports that in the 124th troop battalion (Lozovaya, Kharkiv region), which was recently sent to Bakhmut, the age of most of the liquidated AFU soldiers is more than 50 years old.

The high losses among the elderly defenders are explained by the unwillingness of the younger Armed Forces of Ukraine to be at the forefront, therefore, personnel of pre-retirement age are sent there.

Shooting at civilians in Donetsk and Luhansk was much easier than running into Wagner fighters, so smearing the snot of the future missing person is understandable.

The positions of Ukrainian troops on the first, partly on the second and third lines of defense have been revealed, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the movement We are with Russia, told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the line of contact is shifting to the north of the region, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering heavy losses.

09:34 The Armed Forces of Ukraine will not be able to serve NATO tanks themselves, so if the deliveries are still agreed, then with the declared volumes, at least 300 more foreigners will arrive at the line of contact. This was reported in the law enforcement agencies of the Donetsk People's Republic.

09:17 Russia is opposed by almost the entire collective West: there has never been such an intensity of hostilities in the modern history of the country, said Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov.

He also drew attention to the fact that in order to stabilize the situation, plans for partial mobilization had to be put into effect, which had not happened since the Great Patriotic War.

The system of mobilization training in our country was not fully adapted to the new modern economic relations, so we had to fix everything on the go, Gerasimov added.

“Ukrainian troops were standing right out of the yard. They covered us like a human shield. There were houses where people had already left long ago - it was possible to stand there. But they stood precisely in those houses where there were people. <...> They fired back, and arrivals immediately went to our houses. I personally asked: “Guys, please go, at least to another estate” - “Are you *checkmate, are you waiting for Russia, orcs ?!” [Vesushniki answered]."

08:23 Frontline summary on the morning of January 24, 2023

- Under fire were the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Antonovka, Ingulets, Burgunka, Monastyrsky, Dudchany and Gavrilovka (Kherson region). Ukrainian artillery did not show much activity.

- In the Zaporozhye direction, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, with fire support from field guns and MLRS, attacked in the area of Maly Shcherbakov and Novodanilovka. There is little progress. Orekhov, Malaya Tokmachka and Gulyaipole are also under artillery attack.

- To the south-west of Bakhmut, the Wagner PMC conducted assault operations in the Predtechin area in order to reach the section of the H-32 highway that connects the besieged city with Konstantinovka. The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an artillery strike on Kurdyumovka. Wagner operatorss are also trying to break into the defenses of the Ukrainian garrison on the eastern outskirts of Bakhmut. And to the north - in the area of Red Gora. After taking Krasnopolovka, PMC "Wagner" attacked in the direction of Rozdolovka. They are also advancing on Vesyoloye.

- In the Luhansk direction, Russian troops are trying to move towards Stelmakhivka. Encounter battles in Novosyolovsky. The price of success for both parties is control over the section of the road on the H-26 highway and the railway. Both transport arteries go to Svatovo.

08:05 Episode of fighting on the Svatovo-Kremennaya front. The Armed Forces of Ukraine sent reserves in a whole convoy - video

Our reconnaissance spotted the enemy at the entrance and corrected artillery fire from drones, the military commander said.

Once again, the urgent need for Mavic quadcopters is shown on the front lines, which at the very front identify enemy forces, observe them with impunity and adjust the fire to destroy them.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah erects new watchtowers on Lebanon border as IDF builds defensive wall
[IsraelTimes] 18-meter tall observation post rises as UN peacekeeping force breaks up another tense standoff between Israeli and Lebanese soldiers on border.

Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2006 unknown persons blew up Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the car he was traveling in, the road he was traveling on, and a few innocent bystanders of no account whatsoever. The person or persons unknow weren't Hezbollah, you can bet on that. Really. Even though there was an international tribunal that said it was them...
’s Hezbollah terror group has established new tall observation posts on Israel’s northern border as the Israel Defense Forces has ramped up the construction of a defensive wall.

Residents of the northern town of Shtula who spoke to the Ynet news site and Channel 12 news said one such 18-meter-high tower, a few dozen meters from the border, had been constructed over the past month, right where the IDF was replacing its aging border fence with a nine-meter-high concrete wall.

The Israeli military has long accused Hezbollah of conducting clandestine activities along the Israel-Lebanon border under the guise of an environmental group known as "Green Without Borders," and published details of one such new site last year.

Ynet’s northern correspondent reported that at least 20 posts manned 24 hours a day by Hezbollah members in civilian clothing have been built over the past year.

Some of the posts are just meters away from the internationally recognized border between the countries — known as the Blue Line — and IDF positions on the other side of the fence.

According to the IDF, the alleged Hezbollah positions represent a violation of United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 war.

The resolution calls for gangs besides the official Lebanese military and peacekeeping United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to remain north of the country’s Litani River.

The IDF has made similar claims in recent years, identifying several observation posts owned by the supposed non-governmental organization, which the military said were actually being used to carry out intelligence and reconnaissance work for the Iran-backed terror group.

In 2017, the United Nations rejected Israel’s claim that Hezbollah was using the NGO as a front for its activities.

At the time, UNIFIL said that while Green Without Borders members have planted trees in the area, it "has not observed any unauthorized armed persons at the locations or found any basis to report a violation of resolution 1701."

The reports Monday came as United Nation peacekeepers were seen breaking up a standoff between Israeli and Lebanese forces along the border, after the latter complained that Israeli engineering work crossed over the demarcation line, for the second time in a week.

Footage from the scene near the northern town of Margaliot showed armed Lebanese soldiers standing guard where Israeli soldiers had placed barbed wire.

UNIFIL forces were seen separating the two sides.

According to Lebanese media reports, UNIFIL had stopped the Israeli engineering works after complaints by the Lebanese army that they had crossed the international border, known as the Blue Line. The Blue Line is marked with blue barrels along the border and is several meters from the Israeli fence in some areas.

The IDF did not immediately provide a comment on the incident.

Last week, engineering work was halted after an IDF excavator possibly crossed the Blue Line by several centimeters. UNIFIL troops have broken up several such standoffs between the IDF and the Lebanese Army in recent years.

The peacekeeping force has been in Lebanon since 1978. Composed of nearly 10,000 soldiers, it is deployed in the south of the country — a stronghold of Hezbollah — to maintain a barrier with Israel, as the two countries technically remain at war.

The terror group has long been the IDF’s most significant adversary on Israel’s borders, with an estimated arsenal of nearly 150,000 rockets and missiles that can reach anywhere in Israel.

Work on the border wall with Lebanon began in 2018. By 2020, the military and Defense Ministry Borders and Security Fence Directorate had completed only 15 kilometers (9 miles) of concrete walling along the approximately 130-kilometer (80-mile) border in order to protect the 22 adjacent Israeli villages.

Eventually, the plan is to construct a barrier along the entire border — a project that would cost NIS 1.7 billion ($470 million).

Europe
Russian Agents Suspected of Directing Far-Right Group to Mail Bombs in Spain
[NY Times] U.S. officials say the operation may be a signal by Russia that the country and its proxies could carry out more terrorist actions in Europe if nations continue supporting Ukraine.

American and European officials believe that Russian military intelligence officers directed associates of a white supremacist militant group based in Russia
...did they call themselves neo-Nazis or were they just the regular Slavic white supremacists so common in that part of the world?
to carry out a recent letter bomb campaign in Spain whose most prominent targets were the prime minister, the defense minister and foreign diplomats, according to U.S. officials.

Spanish and foreign investigators have been looking into who sent six letter bombs in late November and early December to sites mostly in Madrid, including the official residence of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, which also serves as his office; the American and Ukrainian Embassies; and the Defense Ministry. No one was killed in the attacks, which U.S. officials consider terrorism. An employee of the Ukrainian Embassy was injured when one of the packages exploded.

Investigators in recent weeks have focused on the Russian Imperial Movement, a radical group that has members and associates across Europe and military-style training centers in St. Petersburg, Russia, the officials said. They added that the group, which has been designated a global terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, is believed to have ties to Russian intelligence agencies. Important members of the group have been in Spain, and the police there have tracked its ties with far-right Spanish organizations.

U.S. officials say that the Russian officers who directed the campaign appeared intent on keeping European governments off guard and may be testing out proxy groups in the event Moscow decides to escalate a conflict.

The apparent aim of the action was to signal that Russia and its proxies could carry out terrorist strikes across Europe, including in the capitals of member states of NATO, which is helping defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, said the U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivities around the investigation. Spain is a member of the alliance and has given military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as well as diplomatic support.

Slavic but with international contacts and training center. Last week's koran burning in Sweden likely had contacts w/ RIM and done on behalf of the FSU.
Executive Summary
The Russian Imperial Movement (RIM) is an extreme-right, white supremacist militant organization based in St. Petersburg, Russia. Founded in 2002, the group promotes ethnic Russian nationalism, advocates the restoration of Russia’s tsarist regime, and seeks to fuel white supremacy extremism in the West. RIM maintains contacts with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups across Europe and the United States. The group has provided paramilitary training to Russian nationals and members of like-minded organizations from other countries at its facilities in St. Petersburg. Members of RIM’s armed wing, the Imperial Legion, have fought alongside pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and been involved in conflicts in Libya and Syria. In addition to its ultra-nationalist beliefs, RIM is known for its anti-Semitic and anti-Ukrainian views. The U.S. State Department listed RIM as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in April 2020. It is the first white supremacist group to be designated as a SDGT.

Yes, them! Thank you for that link — I’ve wanted something more authoritative than Deutsche Welle for a while. But the Deutsche Welle article, from a few years back, along with others from the the same time period (see for example this, from a group supported by George Soros’ Open Societies Foundation) squarely put the neo-Nazis and White supremacists in the pro-Russia camp from the beginning, along with Russian government acceptance for the movement.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief January 25, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI TO ACTIVATE ALL SECURITY CHECKPOINTS IN BOTH CITIES – Law enforcement officials of both cities met in Safe City (Islamabad) and discussed new security measures to be implemented in light of the increased terror threat posed by the TTP. All parties agreed to activate all checkpoints in both cities as well as increase security checks at both entry and exit points. As areas are searched in the cities, Police will cordon off the areas before beginning checks. Existing neighborhoods will be instructed on how to improve their security plans and Police will assist new neighborhoods in the development of their plans. Religious sites (seminaries, Mosques, schools, etc) and schools will be assisted with individualized security plans. At-risk Afghans in both locations should be aware these policies will take effect on Thursday and that the focus of these new policies is on interdicting TTP terror operations.

  • TALIBAN CHINA ARMS DEAL UNDER THE INTERNATIONAL MICROSCOPE – The Taliban regime is reportedly seeking to purchase several Blowfish Drones from China in an arms deal that has the international community wondering where the priorities for the de facto rulers lie. For the entirety of 2022, the regime has been screaming for international aid and humanitarian relief for a population that faces starvation and has been forced to adopt drastic measures just to stay fed, warm, and healthy. China confirmed the request and publicly stated that drones are necessary for counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan. It seems unlikely the international community will look kindly on defense spending by a regime that has basically written the textbook on how not to form a Nation.

  • BOTH AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN WORKING TO RESTORE POWER – The Taliban said that Uzbekistan would begin exporting power today after several fiery exchanges between the two countries and an uproar from Afghans who have been dealing with outages for some time now. In Pakistan, power has been restored in nearly every city but the government has called for an investigation into the situation after some MPs voiced concerns about a cyberattack.

  • CHINESE NATIONALS ARRESTED IN JALALABAD, ACCUSED OF LITHIUM SMUGGLING SCHEME – Taliban intelligence agents reputedly arrested 5 men in Jalalabad, 2 of whom are said to be Chinese nationals, for attempting to smuggle 1,000 metric tons of lithium ore to Pakistan for eventual use in China. The ore was reportedly mined in Nuristan and Kunar Provinces and was said to consist of roughly 30% lithium. China’s representatives in Kabul had yet to make a statement but a source within the Ministry of the Interior claimed they had asked their citizens be released in return for a guarantee they would be deported and dealt with in China. Their location and disposition are currently unknown. No further information was available.

  • US AND ALLIES MULLING NEW ENGAGEMENT CRITERIA WITH TALIBAN – The US has long been in consultations with other international partners over how to respond to the Taliban after the continued erosion of gender rights by the nascent regime. With international recognition basically off the table due to the self-inflicted policies, humanitarian and economic aid are the only realistic points of discussion left for the Taliban. The international community is left with the difficult task of attempting to help the Afghan people while bypassing a defacto regime.

Government Corruption
There is a Country that Receives $100 Million in Military Aid per Year from the Biden Administration While It Engages in Ethnic Cleansing
[CovertActionMagazine] The Biden administration’s hypocrisy knows no bounds when it comes to human rights. Nearly every day, we hear pious condemnations of Russia and China for their human rights abuses—whether in Ukraine or toward the Uyghurs—and sermons about how the U.S. has to fight a new global war on authoritarian regimes.

At the same time, the U.S. continues to escalate its military operations in Ukraine, Somalia and in the Middle East, while supporting regimes notorious for human rights abuses like Saudi Arabia, which has waged a genocidal war on Yemen; and Rwanda, which is again on the assault in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Completely overlooked is the Biden administration’s policy toward Azerbaijan, which is so bad that it has aroused opposition from such cheerleaders for U.S. foreign policy as Adam Schiff (D-CA), the former Chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, and Robert Menendez (D-NJ), the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Once the U.S. provides military aid to a nation, however, it has no way of controlling how the weaponry will be used.
The money quote. How many other despicable regimes are we supporting with free money and weapons?

#3  Washington CNN, 4 Aug 2016

The Obama administration secretly arranged a plane delivery of $400 million in cash on the same day Iran released four American prisoners and formally implemented the nuclear deal, US officials confirmed Wednesday.

President Barack Obama approved the $400 million transfer, which he had announced in January as part of the Iran nuclear deal. The money was flown into Iran on wooden pallets stacked with Swiss francs, euros and other currencies as the first installment of a $1.7 billion settlement resolving claims at an international tribunal at The Hague over a failed arms deal under the time of the Shah.

A fifth American man was released by Iran separately.

We are discussing the possibility of building such a unit and we are considering different options from Finland". In addition, according to him, Finland can conduct exercises of the Ukrainian military on Leopard tanks.

At the same time, the president of the Scandinavian country noted that in the context of the transfer of tanks to Ukraine, one should take into account the significant border of Finland with Russia and the fact that Finland is not yet a member of NATO: "This should always be borne in mind when we think about how be our role. According to Ukrainian publics, this is probably about the ex-deputy of the city council from the Opposition Platform for Life Valentina Mamai. The car exploded on Rudenko Street, where the Berdyansk Animal Welfare Service is located, which is led by a collaborator. But not only from my country, but from of all countries. Therefore, we call for tanks to be provided by a large group of countries."

14:51 Erdogan has taken on a negotiating mission to release civilian Ukrainians whom Russia is holding on its territory, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets said. According to him, there are currently no methods for rescuing civilians from Russian captivity, but Ukraine wants to return everyone whom the Russian Federation has abducted since 2014.

Ukraine has practically no information about where they are, in what place, in what condition. If Russia has not filed any charges against them, then according to International Humanitarian Law, it must return them.

14:27 Yuriy Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the type of aircraft that will probably be provided to Ukraine has already been determined: "Our military pilots traveled to the United States, funds were allocated for the training of our pilots ... That is, the aviation theme has never left agenda. The type of aircraft that is likely to be provided to Ukraine, and the corresponding time frame for the training of personnel, have already been actually determined."

14:23 According to UN estimates, 17.6 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian assistance, of which 45% are women, 23% are children, and 15% are people with special needs. 27% of the total number of needs are catastrophic, 8% of people have an emergency level of needs, 52% have a severe level of needs.

13:28 The SBU reported suspicions to the commander of the 52nd heavy bomber aviation regiment of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation, Colonel Oleg Timoshin, who is responsible for missile attacks, including attacks on a high-rise building in Dnipro and a shopping center in Kremenchug. His orders led to the death of 88 Ukrainians and the injury of 240, the SBU noted.

13:05 CNN got access to a Ukrainian intelligence report on the tactics and effectiveness of Russian mercenaries from PMC Wagner. The document says that they have extremely strict discipline and do not count losses, which is why they achieve success. According to intelligence, the Wagnerites pose a serious threat at close range, because assault groups do not retreat without a team. For retreat they face execution or painful death.

Tens of thousands of recruited convicts are often used in the first wave of attacks, and they suffer the most losses - up to 80%. They are followed by more experienced fighters. If the Wagner PMC forces manage to get into position, artillery support allows them to dig trenches and gain a foothold. However, according to intercepts, coordination between the Wagnerites and the Russian military is often lacking.

12:58 The Russians fired on Konstantinovka, Donetsk region, four people were injured, including two children, said the head of the OVA Pavel Kirilenko.

12:29 Russia will soon activate the use of airborne troops, in February-March there will be active hostilities in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, there is also a possibility of a second attempt by the occupiers to enter Ukrainian territory across the border in the Kupyansk direction, the deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate said in an interview with Ukrinform Ministry of Defense Vadim Skibitsky.

He also noted that today the threat and, in general, the rhetoric of the use of nuclear weapons is not as relevant as it was in early autumn. This was facilitated, in particular, by the measures of the international community on nuclear safety.

11:54 Germany has received an official request from Poland to re-export Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Reuters reports citing Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.

In turn, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin has not yet decided on the transfer of tanks to Ukraine.

11:33 Lukashenko said that he was offered to conclude a non-aggression pact with Ukraine. At the same time, he claims that Ukraine “continues to train militants and extremists”: “I don’t know why the Ukrainians do this. On the one hand, they ask us not to fight with Ukraine in any case, so that our troops don’t move there. Pact they propose to conclude a non-aggression. But on the other hand, they prepare this explosive mixture and arm them. Poland, Lithuania are generally crazy. Why do they need this? It's incomprehensible."

11:29 Some Chinese state-owned companies are supporting Russia in the war with Ukraine, Bloomberg writes, citing sources. According to the publication, the Biden administration expressed "serious concern" to Beijing, raised this issue in the negotiations and finds out whether the Chinese authorities know about the participation of state-owned companies in helping the Russian Federation. Beijing has also been warned of the consequences.

According to informed sources, we are talking about non-lethal military assistance to circumvent sanctions. The aid was described as "conscious assistance to Russia in its military operations." Relations between Moscow and Beijing are now very close, sources say, and China is doing more than ever to help Russia. However, Beijing has so far refused to supply weapons.

11:12 Stoltenberg expressed confidence that Western countries will soon reach an agreement on the supply of tanks to Ukraine.

11:09 In the Kherson region over the past day, one person was killed due to Russian shelling, the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich, said.

10:56 Electricity consumption in Ukraine on January 24 remains at the level of the previous day. Electricity production increased slightly, and the capacity deficit remains significant, Ukrenergo said. All oblenergos have been notified of daily consumption limits.

10:33 The Russians have reduced the number of attacks on Belogorivka, Luhansk region, said the head of the OVA, Sergei Gaidai. In his opinion, this may be due to the fact that the invaders sent their main forces to capture Soledar. Meanwhile, fighting continues near Svatovo and Kremennaya - there the enemy throws regular military men into battle in order to only keep these settlements.

10:28 British intelligence notes that disagreements in the top military leadership of the Russian Federation continue, and one of the signs of this is the likely dismissal of Colonel General Mikhail Teplinsky from the post of one of the key operational commanders of Russian troops in Ukraine.

Teplinskiy was an officer on the ground regarding the successful withdrawal of Russian troops from the west of the Dnieper in November 2022, and he has been recognized in Russia as a capable and pragmatic commander, analysts say. Now it is unclear whether Teplinskiy will retain his additional powers as head of the Russian airborne troops. There is a real possibility that the debate over the tasks given to the Airborne Forces contributed to his dismissal: the Airborne Forces were often used to hold positions traditionally assigned to motorized infantry.

According to intelligence, disagreements in the top military leadership of the Russian Federation are also connected with the fact that the head of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, is trying to impose his personal power over the campaign.

10:17 Attorney General Andrei Kostin signed an order to dismiss his deputy Alexei Simonenko, who went on a ten-day vacation to Spain during the war.

09:55 Reznikov supported the request of his deputy Vyacheslav Shapovalov to resign after the scandal with the purchase of food for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shapovalov was responsible for the logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and asked to be fired "so as not to pose a threat to the stable supply of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a result of a campaign of accusations related to the purchase of food services." At the same time, the department continues to insist that the accusations are "groundless and unfounded."

09:32 The leader of the "DPR" Pushilin issued a "decree" on the appointment of Oleg Morgun as the "head of administration" of Mariupol instead of Konstantin Ivashchenko. Morgun previously headed the Novoazovsky district in the "DNR".

09:25 Ukrainian troops are gradually advancing towards Kremennaya in the east of the Lugansk region. This operation, most likely, is a preparatory stage for the spring offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes Politico, citing a senior Pentagon official. According to American analysts, the capture of Kremennaya will open the way for the Ukrainian army to advance on Severodonetsk and Lysichansk.

09:14 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, three civilians were killed - in Novopokrovsky, Paraskoveevka and Chasovoy Yar. Three more people were injured in the region, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the OVA, said.

09:11 The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that three Russian attack helicopters Ka-52 were destroyed in the eastern direction in half an hour of anti-aircraft combat tonight.

08:58 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirms Ukrainian intelligence data that Russian troops are preparing for an offensive operation in the spring or early summer of 2023. Analysts also write that Russia continues to deepen military and economic relations with Iran.

08:39 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy as of the morning of January 24th.

  • personnel - about 122,170 (+690) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 3152 (+2),

  • armored combat vehicles - 6284 (+8),

  • artillery systems - 2148 (+2),

  • air defense systems - 220 (+0),

  • aircraft - 289 (+2),

  • helicopters - 281 (+4),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 1897 (+3),

  • cruise missiles - 749 (+0),

  • ships/boats - 18 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 4944 (+8),

  • special equipment - 194 (+1)
.
08:31 The enemy continues to advance in the Bakhmut and Avdeevsky directions, despite numerous losses on their part. In the Kupyansk direction, he conducted unsuccessful offensive operations, all enemy attacks were repelled. In the Limansky, Novopavlovsky, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson directions, the enemy is on the defensive, the General Staff said in the morning report .

Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the invaders in the areas of settlements: Chervonopopovka, Luhansk region; Belogorovka, Razdolovka, Salt, Krasnaya Gora, Bakhmut, Kleshcheevka, Novobakhmutovka, Krasnogorovka, Vodiane, Marinka, Donetsk region.

According to the General Staff, within ten days in some settlements of the Luhansk region there has been a decrease in the number of enemy personnel. In addition, it has become a practice that the majority of mobilized Russian military personnel are sent to the front line, while professional military personnel are trying by all means to remain in the rear. It also became known that the Russian occupation administration of Luhansk is evacuating the families of servicemen of the 2nd Army Corps of the RF Armed Forces from the city to Russia.

02:41 The German concern Rheinmetall could transfer 29 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Kiev by April or May, another 22 of these by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, as well as 88 Leopard 1 (but when is unknown). A total of 139 tanks - provided that the German government gives permission for this, writes RND with reference to the press secretary of the concern.

00:49 Next week, representatives of a number of countries will gather to promote the idea of creating a special tribunal for the crime of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Kuleba said: "Many events are happening privately on the diplomatic track that bring us closer to the creation of a tribunal. One of them will take place on the next week. In one place will gather a group of countries that will be very active in promoting the idea of a special tribunal. When the event takes place, we will tell you separately about it. " The Minister assured that it is not about "symbols", but about effective and concrete steps.

Five Germans charged over putsch plot, plan to kidnap health minister
[IsraelTimes] Group allegedly aimed to create ’civil war-like conditions’ in Germany, violent mostly peacefully overthrow democratic government, restore authoritarian 19th-century Reich.

Five Germans have been charged with treason over a far-right plot to overthrow the government that included plans to abduct the health minister, prosecutors said Monday.

The four men and a woman were arrested in recent months over the plot, with German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach — unpopular among far-right groups because of anti-Covid measures — confirming that he was targeted.

They were charged on January 16 and face counts ranging from founding a domestic terror group to preparing a treasonous act and violating weapons laws, the federal prosecutors’ office said.

The group aimed to "trigger civil war-like conditions in Germany by means of violence... to cause the overthrow of the government and parliamentary democracy," it said in a statement.

The suspects accepted that fatalities could result from the attempted overthrow, it added.

It said the group’s ideology was "shaped" by the woman charged — identified only as Elisabeth R. — and was centered on the belief that the modern German state was not legitimate.

Instead, they claimed that the German Empire of the 19th century was the country’s true system of government and that an authoritarian ruling order should be re-established.

Their beliefs chime with those of the far-right Reichsbuerger (Citizens of the Reich) movement, which rejects Germany’s democratic institutions and has attracted a growing number of followers.

MILITARY, ADMINISTRATIVE ARMS’
The five members organized themselves into "military" and "administrative" arms to plan the coup, prosecutors said.

It involved triggering a "long-lasting, nationwide blackout by damaging or destroying important power supply facilities," and then abducting Lauterbach, with his bodyguards killed if necessary.

A special assembly would then be called in Berlin to publicly depose the government and appoint a new leader, prosecutors said.

They had sought support via the Telegram messaging app.

One of the accused, Sven B., was to lead the abduction of Lauterbach, while Thomas O. scouted areas as part of plans to trigger blackouts and obtained maps of electricity infrastructure, prosecutors said.

The two men also tried to procure explosives, which they wanted to import from the former Yugoslavia, and Thomas O. was arrested after obtaining assault rifles, handguns, and ammunition.

Elisabeth R., along with three others, was in charge of recruiting potential members.

"She insisted on quick implementation of the plan and repeatedly named specific dates," prosecutors said.

Another far-right group planning to overthrow the government — including an ex-MP and aristocrat — was uncovered in December, though authorities have not linked that group to the one that plotted to abduct Lauterbach.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Four dark chocolate makers including Hershey and Cadbury are urged to cut down levels of heavy metals in their bars by Valentine's Day ‐ when 58 MILLION lbs of coca is consumed
...and we wonder why kids are crazy.
Surely this would lead to higher craziness in older people — children generally prefer milk chocolate, which the article does not point to as a risk.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Consumer Reports put out open letters to Hershey, Modelez International — which owns Cadbury — and Theo Chocolate and Trader Joe's on Monday, following the a report by the group in late 2022 which found high levels of lead and cadmium in the companies' dark chocolate products.

The watchdog highlighted that long-term exposure to the metals could result in nervous system problems, immune system suppression and kidney damage. Though there is no indication that any of the bars individually contain enough to cause harm

Last month, Consumer Reports said 23 of the 28 dark chocolate bars it tested included potentially harmful levels of lead, cadmium or both for people who eat more than one ounce of chocolate a day.

Cadmium is naturally in soil and is thought to get absorbed by cocoa plants during the harvesting process.

There currently is no national limit on lead and cadmium in chocolate bars set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Several wounded as STC mercenaries attack in Abyan province
by Emad Almarshahi

A number of citizens, including a child and women, were injured on Monday when the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia bombarded citizens’ villages in Mudiya district of Abyan province, southern Yemen.

Informed sources stated that groups of the STC militia coming from Dhalea province and Yafea area in Lahj province, led by Mukhtar Al-Nubi, bombed a number of areas, including Al-Baqira village east of Mudiya, with mortars and machine guns, which resulted in the injury of several civilians, including a 3-year-old child and women and caused severe damage to citizens’ homes.

The tribesmen targeted the militia in response to the bombing of their villages and terrorizing their children and women, according to the sources.

This came after the STC militia launched a military campaign on the areas of Al-Mahzera and the villages of Al-Fathan tribes, storming homes and arresting several residents, including three from Al-Mahzera, which led to clashes that left nearly 4 dead and wounded during the past hours of Monday.

The experts aren't
[DailySceptic] Remember back in 2020 when Sweden was the bad boy of the Covid world? Placed firmly on the naughty step by the WHO, the EU and many national leaders, the Swedes bravely, or stubbornly, ploughed their own furrow. However, by the end of 2020, with the excess death rate in Sweden at 758 per million compared to the minuscule or negative rates in the ‘pin-up’ Nordic countries of Finland, Denmark and Norway (each of which followed WHO and EU orthodoxy) Sweden, and their Chief Epidemiologist, Anders Tegnell, were firmly on the defensive.

How times change! Here we are in 2023, the pandemic rapidly disappearing in the rear-view mirror. But what’s this? The excess date rate in 2022 in both Finland and Norway was higher than Sweden’s in 2020. How can that be, isn’t the pandemic over?

Remind me. Wasn’t 2020 the once-in-a-century pandemic that ravaged the world? When a never-before-seen virus encountered a naïve population, sweeping through country after country. When Sweden, due to the gross pig-headedness of Tegnell and a few colleagues, refused to follow WHO guidance, putting its population at unimagined risk?

I’m not trying to necessarily pin the blame on vaccines, I’m just looking at the data. If vaccines were the main culprit of excess deaths in 2022 in Finland, Norway and Denmark, then why aren’t excess deaths in Sweden higher? In fact, as you can see from Figure 1, vaccine uptake is pretty similar in each of these countries. Maybe it’s just Sweden and its people doing their own thing again. Draw your own conclusions about the cause.

No, my point is that no one knows what they’re doing. Don’t trust the experts, they’re as clueless as you and me.

Sweden’s high rate of Covid deaths was certainly, in part, down to some spectacular own goals. In 2020 the Swedes, like the U.K., emptied its hospitals. In the U.K. we sent home tens of thousands of bedridden hospital patients. Many went back to care homes where many staff promptly went off sick. Those left to deal with the deluge were hamstrung by PPE shortages and the necessity to follow PPE protocols. These issues in U.K. care homes exacerbated Covid and all-cause deaths due to conditions such as urinary infections, as can be seen in figure 2. The charts come from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities. From interviews and reports I’ve read a similar situation developed in Sweden, contributing to its relatively high Covid fatality rate in 2020, with many of the deaths occurring in care homes (something Tegnell later apologised for).

Sen. Katie Britt Exposes ESG Agenda of Biden Pentagon Pick with First Vote in Senate to Oppose Brendan Owens
[Breitbart] Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) used her first vote in the United States Senate to expose the ESG agenda of President Joe Biden’s nominee to be Assistant Secretary for Energy, Installations and Environment in the Defense Department.

Britt voted “no” in her first vote as a senator on Monday night to oppose Brendan Owens’s nomination to serve as Assistant Secretary for Energy, Installations and Environment in the Defense Department due to his support from the radical environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policy movement.

“The Biden Administration has consistently prioritized their reckless leftwing political agenda to the detriment of our military readiness,” Britt said in a statement following her vote in opposition to Biden’s push for radical policies in the Pentagon.

On Monday, Daily Signal’s Samantha Aschieris revealed some of Owens’s former “environment” work history. Some of his previous work experience has involved being “focused on the places where systems in the built environment intersect and interact” and “delivering equity, health and decarbonization.”
That's some Kamala-level gobbledygook and word salad
“This nominee would simply be the tip of the spear in continuing President Biden’s radical ‘Green New Deal’ priorities at the Department of Defense,” she continued. The Defense Department “should be focused on ensuring our incredible men and women in uniform are the best equipped, resourced, and trained in the world.”

The Daily Signal’s report also noted his LinkedIn bio describes him as “working for equity, human health and climate” and his “About” page indicates that he is “passionate about green buildings, market transformation and programs that enable people and companies to decarbonize and create an equitable and healthy world.”

“We achieve peace through strength, not wokeness. The last thing we need is a DOD appointee from the ESG movement,” Britt added.

Biden nominated Owens almost a year ago on March 11. Despite Britt’s “no” vote, Owens was confirmed with a 60 to 35 margin.

'Tragedy upon tragedy': How there have been 39 mass shootings in just 24 days so far this year leaving 70 people dead - including four in California in the last eight days killing 26
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Within first 24 days of this year, 70 people killed in 39 mass shootings in US

  • At this time this last year, America had seen 27 mass shootings, data shows

  • In California, gunman Huu Can Tran killed 11 people at a ballroom dance hall

Many of worst mass shootings post-COVID have occurred in states with tight gun laws, data shows

[JustTheNews] Of the five deadliest shootings in the U.S. since 2020, four of the states in which they occurred have at least a "B" grade for gun laws from gun control nonprofit.

The mass shooting in California that left 10 people dead this weekend is the latest reminder that many of the deadliest mass shootings in America since COVID-19 have occurred in states with strict gun laws.

The worst mass shooting by far since the start of the COVID pandemic occurred in Uvalde, Texas, where when 21 elementary school students were killed. The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gives Texas an F grade for gun laws, as the state allows permitless carry and does not have restrictions on assault weapons, among other things.

However, of the five worst shootings in the United States since 2020, four of the states in which they occurred have at least a "B" grade from Giffords.

Excluding murder-suicides within a family, half of the ten deadliest mass shootings over this period occurred in states that received at least an "A-" gun law grade.
The ten, in order, are:
5/24/2022 Texas 12 killed at Robb Elementary
1/21/2023 California 10 killed at Monterey Park dance studio
3/22/2021 Colorado 10 killed in Boulder grocery store
5/14/2022 New York 10 killed in Buffalo supermarket
5/26/2021 California 9 killed in San Jose Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority
4/15/2021 Indiana 8 killed by former FedEx employee
3/16/2021 Georgia 8 killed at Atlanta area Asian massage parlors
7/4/2022 Illinois 7 killed ar Highland Park 4th of July parade
9/8/2020 California 7 killed at marijuana grow house
6/4/2020 Alabama 7 killed by members of a “Seven Deadly Sins” club at a member’s home

Terrorists in Idlib are preparing sabotage against Russian servicemen
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Terrorists operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone are preparing sabotage against Russian military personnel, said Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy head of the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in the SAR.

"The Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties received information about the preparation by terrorist groups of a series of sabotage and attacks on the positions of government forces of the Syrian Arab Republic and Russian military personnel in order to aggravate the situation and disrupt the implementation of the terms of the Russian-Turkish agreements on the joint maintenance of the ceasefire," he said.

According to the military, in the area of the settlements of Ez-Ziara, Kafrinja and Karkur, clusters of militants and armored vehicles were identified, and they also recorded the transfer of handicraft drones in strike equipment.

In addition, it was possible to detect the RZSO, with the help of which the terrorists plan to inflict provocative strikes on the positions of the Syrian government forces, Yegorov added.

"The militants intend to distribute on social networks videos showing alleged destruction of civilian infrastructure in order to accuse the Armed Forces of Russia and Syria of inflicting indiscriminate strikes on the territory controlled by illegal armed groups," he said.

The armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. At the end of 2017, victory was declared over the IS terrorist group in Syria and Iraq. In certain regions of the countries, sweeps from militants continue. Now the forefront is a political settlement, the restoration of the SAR, as well as the return of refugees.

Resident of Dagestan convicted in the case of financing militants
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced a resident of Dagestan accused of transferring money to members of a terrorist organization.

According to the prosecution, Rasul Abdulkerimov transferred funds to militants of the international terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham,
...formerly Al Nusra, Al Qaeda in Syria...
which is banned in Russia.

The investigation and the court concluded that in January 2021, Abdulkerimov saw a video of militants and entered into correspondence with one of them. Having received from the interlocutor the details for transferring money, from January 29 to June 24, 2021, the man transferred 16,210 rubles to support the militants, the press service of the court reported today.

Abdulkerimov was found guilty under the article on assisting terrorists (1.1, article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This article provides for eight to 15 years in prison.

The court sentenced Rasul Abdulkerimov to 9 years and 2 months of strict regime with the first 3 years in prison, according to a message published today on the court's Telegram channel.

The verdict has not yet entered into force.

It follows from the case file on the court’s website that from May 2022 to January 23, 2023, eight hearings were held on the case, and today the court delivered a verdict. The "Caucasian Knot" does not yet have any comments on the accused or his lawyer regarding the verdict.

Iraq
Turkey withdraws from over a dozen military bases in Duhok province: Sources
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has withdrawn troops from over a dozen military bases in Duhok province in a month, informed civilians and military sources in the area told Rudaw this week.

Turkey has established tens of military points in the Kurdistan Region in recent years in the framework of a series of offensives it has carried out against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Twenty-seven of these bases have been set up following the launch of the so-called Operation Claw-Lock in April, Rudaw has learnt.

Civilian and security sources in Duhok province told Rudaw’s Naif Ramadan on Sunday that Turkey had withdrawn 13 of its 27 military bases it had established since April.

In 2020, the Ottoman Turkish presidency published a map in a tweet which purportedly showed nearly 40 Ottoman Turkish "military points" in the Kurdistan Region. The tweet was later deleted.

The Ottoman Turkish army’s presence in the Kurdistan Region has grown significantly in recent decades, particularly since the 1990s.

Ottoman Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar told news hounds on Tuesday that his army has been able to control a 302-kilometre line on the Kurdistan Region borders through its latest offensive, Claw-Lock. He added that most of Mount Zap has been controlled by Ankara.

Peshkaft Rashid is from Sargale village in Amedi town. He fled his home in summer due to Ottoman Turkish bombardment. Now the tensions between Turkey and the PKK have de-escalated in his village but Kurdish security forces are preventing him from returning to his village. He lives in a nearby village now.

"The situation is calm and there is no problem but the security forces prevent me from returning to my village. I hope that they take my demand into consideration so that I do not lose," he told Rudaw, adding that he is struggling to find a place to feed his livestock. He has lost about 40 sheep in the last five months due to the bombardments.

A large number of villages in Duhok province have been vacated due to Ottoman Turkish attacks.

Ahmed Arif is a military expert. He said that Turkey’s withdrawal from these areas does not mean that it will not come back.

"We know that [Iraq’s] border forces have been deployed to these areas [where Turkey has withdrawn] and Turkey will not make a return as long as there is no movement [of PKK] there," he said.

PKK is an gang struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey. Ankara has listed it as a terrorist organization, often targeting its fighters at home and in the Kurdistan Region.

Karwan Khoshnaw, a spokesperson for Iraq’s border forces, said earlier this month that the Kurdistan Region’s borders with Turkey are "calmer" now, partially contributing to freezing weather.

He also said that their forces are using surveillance drones to monitor the developments on the borders, noting that "the Iraqi government has decided to send us necessary equipment."
