-Great Cultural Revolution
It's Official: European Food Will Now Contain Crickets
[RedState] If you’ve not yet consumed crickets, you may soon — particularly if you’re a partaker of European fare.

The European Union is putting the “pow” in “powder.” It’s giving eaters an explosion of insect compliments of a pinch of arthropod. From now on, those overseas will be bound to eat ground cousins of grasshoppers.

Following a three-year review, Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 went into effect Tuesday. It allows food producers to put cricket powder in flour-based products.

In its scientific opinion, the [European Food Safety Authority] concluded that Acheta domesticus (house cricket) partially defatted powder is safe under the proposed conditions of use and use levels. … [T]hat scientific opinion gives sufficient grounds to establish that Acheta domesticus (house cricket) partially defatted powder when used in [an assortment of food] fulfills the conditions for its placing on the market…

Cricket powder will be permitted in the following:

Multigrain Bread and Rolls
Crackers and Breadsticks
Cereal Bars
Dry Pre-Mixes for Baked Products
Biscuits
Dry Stuffed and Non-Stuffed Pasta-Based Products
Sauces
Processed Potato Products
Legume- and Vegetable- Based Dishes
Pizza
Pasta-Based Products
Whey Powder
Meat Analogues
Soups and Soup Concentrates or Powders
Maize Flour-Based Snacks
Beer-Like Beverages
Chocolate Confectionary
Nuts and Oilseeds
Snacks Other Than Chips
Meat Preparations

The original application to start bugging people’s plates came courtesy of Cricket One, a company promoting “classic protein for a modern world.”

#1  I did a deep dive into this.

Bug Armor (exoskeleton) is Chitin.
Bug Protein is ground up bugs.
Bug Protein contains Chitin.
Chitin digests into Chitosan.
Chitosan is cancer food.

Literally the white paper I read, they were using chitosan as a substrate to cultivate cancers for research.

A NIH article /study concludes - Chitosan promotes cancer progression and stem cell properties in association with Wnt signaling in colon and hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Another paper I read - they target a Chitin Glucosamine found in cancer cells as a possible treatment for cancer.

"... although not found in normal mammalian cells, a chitin (β-1,4-linked N-acetyl-d-glucosamine) or a chitin-like polysaccharide (e.g., hyaluronan) may exist as a cancer-associated glycan..."

#3  *Shrug* Peanut Butter and Chocolate Milk contain 'bug parts' as well. Ever notice that Chocolate Milk isn't rated 'Grade A' like other milk? It's because insects get into the cocoa powder and get ground into itty bitty pieces during processing and they can't feasibly remove them. Same with that chocolate bar... Yum! Insect Protein!

#4  I remember back in school when the Killjoys had their moment of gross out the kids about modern food production. Chocolate Ice Cream was 'the worst'. Flour has a higher allowed parts per unit too, IIRC.

Its something to keep to a minimum rather than aspire saturation.

I am adventurous in my eating. There are bugs I'd try as a meal. Not as a lifestyle. Not crickets.

Along the lines of mossomo there, I remember when The Best Diet Protein Is Seafood, and all sorts went strictly seafood, and ended up with heavy metal poisoning.

That’s the locust native to the Middle East, Seeking cure. When that flies, they eat everything green down to the ground, so God gave special permission. But about half the Jews of the world live where thr locust doesn’t, and most of the rest live in Israel, which understands both pesticides and preparing for this regular catastrophe, so they never get to the point where locusts are the only option.

Europe
Demographics Part 6: The Orthodox Predicament - Peter Zeihan
Who vanishes first?
[YouTube] It's time we talk about a region that has long held the title of "worst demographics"...The Orthodox Christian countries.

The big dog of the region - Russia - has entered a point of no return for its demographic situation. Ukrainians are even worse off. Regardless of the outcome of this war - they'll end up with a s*** stew of demographics.

Other countries like Bulgaria and Romania aren't any better off. They've basically sent out all of their youth to other countries for economic opportunities...and even if they do return, they're not adding to the population once they reach their 40s and 50s.

Serbia had the opportunity to flourish into the most rapidly growing economy in the region. Still, they've made every wrong policy decision in the book...so no dice for them either.

Each of these countries will likely come face-to-face with its inevitable demise within the next 20 years, and there's not much they can do about it.

Pfizer Introduces New Mascot 'Clotty'
[Bee] Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has unveiled their new mascot, an adorable glob of platelets who goes by the name "Clotty".

"See? Blood clots aren't scary!" said Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla as a smiling Clotty danced onto the stage. "Welcome to Pfizer, Clotty! Let's get one of these little guys into every home in America!"

While Pfizer initially pushed back against evidence tying the vaccine to blood clots, the company has decided to instead embrace it. "We are so excited for Clotty to help us put a friendly face on heart attacks and strokes," said Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla. "Every new COVID booster will now come with a plush Clotty doll you can take to the hospital when you inevitably get admitted with a massive embolus. You'll love squeezing Clotty while they wheel you into the cath lab! Thanks, Clotty!"

The new mascot's reception has thus far been overwhelmingly positive, with Clotty paraphernalia already showing up in several politicians' offices. "Gosh darn it, I love the little guy," said Senator Elizabeth Warren, sporting a Clotty t-shirt as she adjusted a picture of her and Clotty. "Every child in America should be so lucky as to have one of these precious little blood clots. I will continue to do everything in my power to make it happen."

At publishing time, Donald Trump had reportedly added Clotty to his list of potential running mates.

How to Perfect Your Irish Coffee
[InsideHook] A celebration of the ideal winter drink on National Irish Coffee Day — with some recipe assistance from two iconic bars.

It seems obvious now: The best winter drink should always involve hot coffee and whisky in some form.

But Irish Coffee is a relatively young drink. A quick recap: This sterling winter tipple got its start at the Foynes Airport in the midwest of Ireland in 1942, where a seaplane on its way from New York to Rome ran into engine trouble and landed. A chef at the airport, Joe Sheridan, whipped up a hot drink of coffee, cream, Irish whiskey and sugar. One passenger, a San Francisco newspaper writer named Stanton Delaplane, became obsessed with this "Gaelic coffee," and his passion eventually led to the drink’s recreation at the Buena Vista Cafe a decade later.

"The Buena Vista started serving Irish Coffees in 1952 and now makes an average of 2,000 Irish Coffees a day," explains Tim Herlihy, co-founder of Lost Irish (an Irish whiskey that’s made from casks sourced from six continents and triple distilled using all three whiskey production styles.) and co-author of From Barley to Blarney: A Whiskey Lover’s Guide to Ireland with NYC’s heralded team at the Irish pub The Dead Rabbit. "It’s become an icon for Ireland’s favorite cocktail."

#9  The action at the Buena Vista is something to see.

The bartender lines up about 20 glasses in the trough, grabs a pot of coffee, and walks down the line pouring. Then he goes back down the line with a spoon and sloshes out any extra coffee, to leave room for the spirits and cream.

He then grabs a bottle of Irish and walks the line, pouring out a steady stream. This is followed with a shaker of whipped cream, a glop in each glass.

The glasses are set up on the bar and disappear almost immediately as the waiters grab them.

This Week Is Your Last Chance to Visit the Smithsonian Castle for the Next Five Years
[Washingtonian)The Smithsonian Institution Building—better known as the Smithsonian Castle—will close Feb. 1 for what’s projected to be a five-year renovation. That means babies born today will be walking and talking by the time it reopens, so you may as well swing by this week for one last peek.

Aside from being an impressive place to stroll through—the 19th-century building is a designated National Historic Landmark—the Castle also houses a small but diverse collection of Smithsonian art and artifacts that provide a sampling of what each Smithsonian museum has to offer. The building’s "Welcome to Your Smithsonian" exhibit delves into the institution’s history as well as the life of its founder, James Smithson, who you can pay respects to inside the building’s crypt. The crypt, which will remain undisturbed throughout the renovation, is the final resting place of Smithson and is open to the public.

The Castle also houses a cafe, gift shop, and central visitor center (which will be expanding online).

According to the Smithsonian, this will be the first major renovation of the Castle in more than 50 years. It’ll largely focus on restoring the interior, which has been altered over the years, to its original historic appearance. Notably, among other restoration work, the Upper Great Hall will be returned to its original two-story height, creating a venue for public programming once again.

Once it’s closed, passersby can still admire the towers and gothic motifs from the Enid A. Haupt Garden, which will remain open throughout the renovation.

#3  By Sarah Bahr: Jan. 13, 2021
The Smithsonian’s eye-popping $2 billion expansion plan was supposed to propel it into the 21st century. Complete with an ambitious expansion of its 19th-century... Castle, that would have added dining, retail and restrooms, and new National Mall entrances to the National Museum of African Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery... The first phase, including repairs to the e Hirshhorn Museum, was already underway. But on Wednesday, the organization said its master plan would no longer include any of those elements, and [would] focus on restorations to the interior and exterior of the Castle, and interior and underground improvements to the Arts and Industries Building, which has been largely closed since 2004 for renovations.

Economy
32-year-old brings in $39,000 a month renting his 2 boats to strangers
[CNBC] JP Mancini II has always been attracted to luxury. He just assumed the barrier of entry was too high.

Then, last January, he decided to rent out his $400,000 boat. Upon listing the 37-foot boat, docked in Key West, Florida, on a rental platform called Boatsetter, he booked 11 trips in a month. The next month, that number doubled.

Sensing opportunity, the 32-year-old sales professional began listing his boat on other rental platforms like Get My Boat — and bought a second, smaller boat for rentals in Hampton, Virginia, where he lives. Today, Mancini’s two boats bring in an average of $38,800 in revenue per month, according to documents reviewed by CNBC Make It.

That’s off only 30 minutes of work per day, spent managing bookings and making sure the boats’ captains — who are hired and paid by individual renters — are maintaining his watercrafts properly, Mancini says.

Over the past year, Mancini says he took home $190,000 after expenses from his boats — about $100,000 shy of what he made at the peak of his full-time sales career, but with far fewer hours worked. Instead of using the money to pay down the $550,000 in loans he took out to buy the boats, Mancini says he plans to funnel it toward more watercraft purchases and other real estate opportunities.

Here’s how Mancini used his sales experience to launch his "mostly passive" six-figure boat business, and what waters he plans to charter next.

3dc had a landlord caught doing this with home while 3dc was in college. The bank most impacted agreed not to send him to jail if he married the bankers daughter. She was one of the more evil people (but good looking) that 3dc ever met. 3dc thinks the landlord made a mistake marrying her. Jail would have been preferable.

#5  This is like the old mortgages daisy-chained on multiple rental homes game.

It’s probably illegal in some places, but not others. The key is not to be caught in a bubble of interest in what is being rented that then pops, leaving a bunch of mortgages and not enough nearly enough income to pay them... and which point the things being mortgaged are taken away by the bank.

Iraq
Sulaimani Asayish arrests seven on terrorism charges
[Rudaw] Sulaimani’s Asayish forces on Thursday announced they had arrested seven people, including three high profile Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) suspects, on terrorism charges.

"Seven suspects, all of whom were wanted by the Iraqi federal government, were arrested as per article 4 of terrorism laws," read a statement from Sulaimani Asayish forces, adding that the suspects were all from central and southern Iraqi provinces but had tried to hide in the Kurdistan Region under the pretense of "working".

"After investigation, it was found out that three of the arrested had been ranked Emir within ISIS ranks, and they have all been sent in front of the judiciary," the statement added.

ISIS seized control of swathes of Iraqi land in 2014. While the group has been devoid of territorial control since 2017, it continues to pose a serious security threat to the country through bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions, particularly in areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

Members of the terrorist group have previously used suburban areas of the Kurdistan Region as a way to hide following the group’s territorial defeat.

In August, Sulaimani security forces announced they had arrested 17 suspected ISIS members who had "confessed" to have planned to assassinate prominent clergymen and Peshmerga commanders.

Several alleged ISIS members were killed when an Iraqi Arclight airstrike

targeted their location in southwestern Erbil province in May.

Afghan migrants held for ransom on Turkish-Iranian border
[AsiaNews] Increasingly, criminal gangs are abducting migrants colonists for ransom with impunity. Victims’ relatives are asked to pay as little as US$ 500. Iran’s crackdown against protests sparked by the Mahsa Amini affair is overshadowing the migrants colonists issue. Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
continues its policy of repatriating refugees.

Since the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
came back to power, tens of thousands of desperate people have fled Afghanistan, making their way into and across Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and Turkey. Here Afghan refugees have faced abuses and violence as well as kidnappings for ransom.

One of them is Sami, not his real name. Like many others, he fled Kabul when the Taliban came back, reaching Turkey, where he was deported. His story highlights a growing problem, that of migrants colonists held for ransom along the border between Turkey and Iran.

"Afghans aren’t familiar with the area, so they find themselves in tiny villages where they become easy prey for gunnies," Sami explained.

Such men have formed gangs who can consist of just a few people and demand as little as US$ 500. They take advantage of exhausted refugees who walked for weeks through rough, mountainous terrain in Iran before entering unfamiliar areas in Turkey.

"They find Afghans at their weakest points, when they are tired, hungry, and lost," Sami noted. "Even if it’s ten Afghans against only two or three of the criminals, the Afghans are too tired and weak to try and fight back."

While Turkey continues to send refugees back, hundreds in January alone, with some 5,000 set to leave coming days, videos of Afghans held for ransom have begun to appear.

In one video, a group of young Afghan men cower by a rock face, hands tied behind their backs. One of them, gagged, is threatened with a large combat knife, which then slices down his ear. In another, topless Afghan men, chained together, kneeling on sand, cry and plead as they are whipped with a belt.

Ali Hekmat, who has been aiding Afghan refugees in Turkey for more than a decade, told Middle East Eye that he has heard countless stories of criminal gangs abusing Afghans, particularly near the Iranian border.

Most Afghans try to enter Turkey without documentation, so there are no accurate statistics, but a constant flow of messages from Afghans held for ransom makes its way to families after they were captured by kidnappers.

More than a year and a half after the Taliban came back to Kabul, Afghan refugees are still a source of deep concern since so many travel a risky route through Iran and Turkey in an attempt to reach Europe, the United States or Australia.

NGOs report scores of cases involving arrests, abuses and deaths, picked up by media, like the migrant who froze to death in an attempt to cross the Ottoman Turkish border in early 2022. For Europe, this emergency is a "humanitarian bomb".

A source told AsiaNews that "many people" have died along the border in a "desperate attempt" to start a new life away from the Taliban after their introduced a sleuth of restrictions inspired by Islamic law (Shar’ia).

Al-Shabaab fires mortars towards Mahas town, central Somalia
[ShabelleMedia] al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
has fired several mortar rounds towards a government-controlled town in central Somalia as SNA and locals continue to make gains in the current war.

The residents reported at least five mortar shells landed outside Mahad town, Hiran region with no casualties as of now. The shelling took place on Tuesday night at around 7:00 PM.

Speaking to Radio Shabelle, the deputy DC of Mahad said the SNA forces with the help of community fighters launched a security launched security operation after the attack.

Al-Shabaab said it was responsible for the mortar shelling which came a few hours after a similar attack happened in Mogadishu on Tuesday, targeting the Villa Somalia complex.

Mahas is one of the areas that witnessed frequent attacks by al-Shabaab in recent months as the government wages a massive war against the group in Galmudug

While no information was provided about what spurred the searches, a source in the Police said the operation was launched to try and interdict an ISIS-K cell that was rumored to be staying in the area. Other sources said the security forces were tipped off about a possible weapons cache. There were no reports of arrests and many of those whose homes were searched said the Taliban security forces were more respectful and less threatening than in past operations. If information becomes available, we will report it.

Shin Bet reveals Hamas attempts to recruit West Bank Palestinians for terror
[IsraelTimes] Security agency says most suspects questioned in recent weeks unaware terror group using them; Israel revokes entry permits for 230 relatives of members involved in operation

The Shin Bet security agency on Wednesday said Israel was revoking the entry permits to Israel from 230 Paleostinians in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, relatives of Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, members who allegedly worked to recruit West Bank Paleostinians to help commit attacks.

In a statement, the Shin Bet said in recent weeks dozens of West Bank Paleostinians had been arrested and questioned over their alleged ties with Hamas operatives in Gaza. The agency said many of the young suspects were unaware that Hamas was using them to prepare attacks against Israeli targets.

According to the Shin Bet, the Hamas operatives hid their real identities by masquerading as companies and other entities, while recruiting West Bank Paleostinians for paid work. The Paleostinians in the West Bank would be tasked with transferring funds intended for purchasing weapons or delivering packages of weapons and ammunition to Hamas operatives, it said.

"All this is without the couriers being aware, in most cases, that they are transferring weapons or are involved in terror activity," the Shin Bet said.

The agency says the operation was led by Farah Hamed, 45, a Hamas member from the West Bank town of Silwad who was deported to Gaza as part of the 2011 Shalit deal. The Shin Bet said Hamed was a member of the Gaza-based terror group’s so-called "West Bank headquarters," a unit involved in advancing terror attacks against Israel from the West Bank.

Several of the suspects have been indicted at a military court for various security offenses, including illegal arms dealing.

The Shin Bet detailed the cases of two of the suspects.

The first, Salam Ziad, 27, from the Jalazone refugee camp was contacted on Facebook in July by an account under the name Haled Taleb, offering work for a Ottoman Turkish courier company that works in the West Bank.

Ziad was first tasked with transferring thousands of dollars between different areas in the West Bank, without knowing their intended use.

The Haled Taleb account then presented himself as someone who works for Mohammed Dahlan, a senior Paleostinian Authority politician, and instructed Ziad to purchase several firearms, the Shin Bet said. Ziad purchased three assault rifles, two handguns, and ammunition with the help of his cousin, Ahmed Ziad, also from Jalazone, and was tasked with delivering them to a Hamas operative in Huwara, according to the statement. The weapons were given to brothers Mohammed and Mahmoud Ghazi, who were accused of opening fire at Israeli vehicles on the Route 60 highway, near Huwara on September 9, 2022.

The second suspect detained by the Shin Bet, Mohammed Yazen Jabar, 21, from a-Ram in East Jerusalem, responded to an ad on Facebook seeking workers for a restaurant. Jabar was then contacted by an account going by the name Abu Alaa, who said he was seeking deliverymen to transfer packages of perfume to the West Bank. In August, Abu Alaa instructed Jabar to purchase and deliver assault rifles and handguns to two Hamas operatives in the West Bank, who were both also arrested.

"The Shin Bet’s investigations revealed that some of the money reached those recruits through digital currency traders, who were also deceived by Hamas members," the agency said.

In response to the attempts by the Hamas operatives to set up attacks, Israel revoked the entry permits to Israel from 230 of their relatives.

A security bigshot said "the actions of Hamas and the other terror groups in the Gaza Strip will lead to a reduction in the number of entry permits for workers from Gaza to Israel."

The service warned that the Gaza-based terrorist group was increasingly trying to carry out attacks in the West Bank and Israel.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
2 Palestinian rioters shot and wounded during clashes in East Jerusalem, police say
[IsraelTimes] Injured suspects in Silwan neighborhood taken to hospital for treatment; police say they hurled Molotov cocktails, firecrackers at officers from close range.

Police officers shot and moderately hurt two Paleostinians allegedly involved in riots in East Jerusalem on Wednesday evening, law enforcement officials said. According to a police spokesperson, officers of the Jerusalem precinct and Border Police troops operated in the neighborhood of Silwan amid violent mostly peaceful protests that included Molotov cocktails hurled at Israeli forces. The spokesperson said the suspected rioters threw the Molotov cocktails and firecrackers at the officers from close range and were shot. The injured pair were transported to hospital for treatment, with one in moderate condition and one at death's door.

Police said that "at a certain point, a Border Police officer — who was operating at the scene felt his life was in danger due to fireworks being fired directly at him and Molotov cocktails being hurled at him from a range of a few meters — fired accurately at the two suspects and neutralized them," according to the spokesperson.

Police said they found a utility knife, a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", flag, and a bunch of firecrackers among the suspects’ belongings.

Officers also operated in a number of other locations in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, police said, with forces using riot dispersal means to disperse crowds. No coppers were hurt during the violence. Jerusalem District Police Commander Doron Turgeman instructed officers to increase "operational activity" to maintain order in East Jerusalem, police said.

Earlier Wednesday, police clashed with Paleostinians in the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem as they demolished the home of a gunman who killed an Israeli soldier last year. A Paleostinian teenager was killed amid the festivities after he aimed a weapon that turned out to be a fake gun at the officers.

A video released by police showed the suspect pointing what appears to be a gun at the forces, then running away as officers opened fire. At one point he threw the item away, before collapsing. The gun later turned out to be fake and not a real firearm, a police spokesperson said. The suspect, named as Salah Muhammad Ali, 17, was listed at death's door and was taken for further medical treatment. Paleostinian media later said he had died of his wounds.

Hundreds of coppers entered Shuafat on Wednesday morning to demolish Udai Tamimi’s home. Tamimi is accused of killing Sgt. Noa Lazar, 18, and seriously wounding a civilian guard on October 8, 2022, at a checkpoint near the camp. Tamimi expeditiously departed at a goodly pace and was killed while attempting to commit another attack at a checkpoint near the entrance of the West Bank settlement city of Ma’aleh Adumim on October 19. One security guard was lightly hurt in the incident

Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks as a matter of policy. The efficacy of the policy has been hotly debated even within the Israeli security establishment, while human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
activist muppets denounce the practice as unjust collective punishment.

Also Wednesday morning, a Paleostinian man who attempted to stab soldiers in the northern West Bank was rubbed out. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the Paleostinian, armed with a knife, approached an army post on Route 55 near the settlement of Kedumim and tried to stab soldiers. Surveillance camera footage of the incident showed the suspect exiting a red car next to the army post which is adjacent to a bus stop, running toward the troops, and apparently attempting to stab them, before being shot.

Tensions have soared in the West Bank as the IDF has pressed on with an anti-terror offensive mostly focused on the northern West Bank to deal with a series of attacks that have left 31 people in Israel dead in 2022. The IDF’s operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids. It also left 171 Paleostinians dead in 2022, and another 20 since the beginning of the year, many of them while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces, though some were uninvolved civilians.

In arrest raids across the West Bank early Wednesday, the IDF said troops arrested 11 wanted Paleostinians.

More about the attempted stabbing at the West Bank army post:
Local security officials said the suspect, named as Aref Abdel Nasser Lahlouh, 20, from the Jenin refugee camp, was killed.

The military said no soldiers were hurt in the incident.

'Project Blueprint'
BLUF:
[blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#brain-health] On the surface, Blueprint may seem something about health, wellness and aging. It's really a system to make tomorrow better for you, me, the planet and our shared future with AI.

Blueprint was born after feeling helpless to stop myself from overeating to soothe the pains of life. Despite my successes: raising three kids and selling my business Braintree Venmo for $800 million; when 7pm rolled around, there was nothing I could do to stop myself from engaging in this self destructive behavior.

I had a Goal Alignment problem within Self. Evening Bryan was causing chaos, disrupting sleep, and ruining life for all other Bryans. Playfully, one day, I revoked Evening Bryan's decision making authority to eat food.

Now, my body's 70+ organs speak for themselves, through hundreds of measurements (blood, saliva, stool, fitness tests, and imaging), communicating what they need to be optimal. Freeing myself from the moment to moment chaos of my mind has been the most liberating experience of my life.

Now, I feel happier, more alive and fulfilled than any time of my life. I am nicer to those around me, no longer irritable and my mind is clear. It made me wonder: instead of pointing at others and demanding change, could the societal and planetary change we desire start by changing ourselves from within? Weirdly, could the future of being human start by eating our vegetables and stopping self destructive behaviors?

We all feel it: things aren't quite right in the world. What's our plan? Blueprint is the baby step in that direction.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
'Airport crew member 'ingested' by plane engine received repeated warnings just before her death, new report says
[Blaze] The airport crew member who died horrifically a few weeks ago when she stepped in front of a plane engine was repeatedly warned about the impending dangers, according to a report issued on Monday by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Courtney Edwards, a 34-year-old mother of three children, was a Piedmont Airlines ground handling agent at Montgomery Regional Airport. Shortly before 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve, she and other ground crew members gathered for two brief safety meetings because the captain of an approaching plane had radioed ahead to warn everyone that he would keep the engines running for a two-minute cooling-off period after the plane landed. The in-cabin auxiliary power unit had apparently not been working.

Crews were instructed to steer clear of the engines until they had been informed that the engines were no longer running and the yellow warning light had been turned off. After the Envoy Air Embraer 170 plane from Dallas landed and the right engine was in the process of powering down, the plane's first officer opened his window and reiterated to crew members that the engines were still running. By that time, one crew member had noticed that Edwards had nearly been knocked over by the plane's exhaust and issued yet another warning for Edwards to give the engines a wide berth.

#1  Oh come on. This is going to be "LOL so stupid" but these companies shove these people out there and time them to the second. There is constant pressure from management to unload the plane and get the bags on the conveyor belt. No matter how fast they do it, the command from above is always to increase metrics.

A predictable tragedy which was the fault of the company. But keep shitting on the workers if that makes you feel like a big man.

Government Corruption
'Former CIA Director Accuses Horse Schiff Of Leaking Classified Information
[Daily Wire] Former Trump administration official Mike Pompeo accused Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of leaking classified information.

The fresh allegation was made after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) blocked Schiff’s appointment to remain on the House Intelligence Committee, where he served as chairman for the last four years.

"During my time as CIA director and secretary of state, I know that he leaked classified information that had been provided to him," Pompeo said on Fox News on Wednesday.

Pompeo did not offer specifics, but he insisted the problem was bad enough to restrict what he shared with Congress.

Underscoring what a serious charge that is, "Outnumbered" co-host Emily Compagno pressed Pompeo on why there hasn’t been accountability if such leaks would be "a felony at minimum, up to treason."

"It’s a complicated process, right? It’s difficult to pin down precisely what happened," Pompeo said. "But I could tell you that when we provided information to him and to his staff, it ended up in places it shouldn’t have been with alarming regularity. We could see it. In the end, I decided, I held back information from them as a result."

'Project Veritas: Pfizer Exploring 'Mutating' Covid-19 Virus Via ‘Directed Evolution’ To Continue Profiting From Vaccines (VIDEO)
[Gateway] Project Veritas on Wednesday night released explosive video of Jordon Trishton Walker, Pfizer Director of Research and Development, Strategic Operations, admitting the pharma giant is exploring ’mutating’ Covid-19 via ’directed evolution’ so the company can continue to profit off of vaccines.

"One of the things we’re exploring is like, why don’t we just mutate it [COVID] ourselves so we could create — preemptively develop new vaccines, right? So, we have to do that. If we’re gonna do that though, there’s a risk of like, as you could imagine — no one wants to be having a pharma company mutating f**king viruses," Walker told the undercover Project Veritas journalist.

"Don’t tell anyone. Promise you won’t tell anyone. The way it [the experiment] would work is that we put the virus in monkeys, and we successively cause them to keep infecting each other, and we collect serial samples from them," he said.

Europe
German Foreign Minister Just Said The Quiet Part Out Loud On Ukraine
[ZERO] German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock bluntly stated in fresh remarks that Western allies are fighting a war against Russia. The remarks came during a debate at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Tuesday amid discussions over sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

While Baerbock's words were largely ignored in mainstream media, a number of pundits on social media noted with alarm that the German foreign minister just essentially declared war on Russia.

Ironically other German officials have long sought to emphasize their country is not a party to the conflict, fearing uncontrollable escalation.

Contradicting this official stance, Baerbock said the quiet part out loud, and introduced the comments with: "And therefore I’ve said already in the last days — yes, we have to do more to defend Ukraine. Yes, we have to do more also on tanks."

And that's when she asserted: "But the most important and the crucial part is that we do it together and that we do not do the blame game in Europe, because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other."

Interestingly, both Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his former defense minister who recently resigned, Christine Lambrecht, have been seen as weak on arming Ukraine - repeatedly declaring an unwillingness to get pulled deeper into the proxy war aspect to the conflict. But now it seems the more hawkish Baerbock is willing to at this point be much more open with the reality of what's happening.

First step towards national rent control? Biden admin to mandate ‘fairness’
[Hot Air] Inflation is eating citizens alive in these United States; nowhere are those numbers more obvious or egregiously out of whack than in the housing and rental industries. If you owned your home already, you’re in the catbird’s seat. If you just bought one, or are trying to in an unbelievably tight market, you know what I’m talking about. Also, if you just bought one, but overpaid because of the tight market, and are watching values start to drop because of interest rates climbing, you’re not really happy.

If you’ve been renting, especially a single-family house vice an apartment, you’ve been on pins and needles the entire time, not knowing if it would be sold out from under you if the owner decides to cash in on good times, vice continues to deal with tenants. Almost every aspect has been fraught with anxiety for all concerned.

A good portion of this is attributable to measures taken (with questionable authority) by the Centers for Disease Control. In an unprecedented order on 1 September 2020, the CDC brought an immediate — and "temporary" — halt in residential evictions to "prevent the further spread of COVID-19." Congress and then the Biden administration extended that order through various incarnations for another year, claiming a surge in Delta variant infections justified it.

Florida woman rescued from storm drain for third time in less than two years
[NY Post] A Florida woman was pulled from a storm drain for the third time in two years last week.
It's not always Florida Man. See her picture at the link and draw your own conclusions...
The Delray Beach Police Department said officers and firefighters responded to a report of a woman possibly in distress while swimming in a canal near the 500 block of Lindell Boulevard around noon on Wednesday. The department said officers located the woman, identified as Lyndsey Jane Kennedy, and asked if she needed help.

Kennedy reportedly ignored them and climbed into a storm drain pipe. Delray police said she refused to come out and began crawling farther into the culvert pipe, which crossed under Lindell Boulevard.

Firefighters were able to keep Kennedy between two sections of pipe while the Delray Beach Fire Rescue Special Operations Team utilized a ladder and a rescue harness to pull her out.

Kennedy appeared to have minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Delray police said the fire department previously rescued Kennedy from a storm drain in March 2021 after she had been missing for three weeks.

According to local news outlets at the time, Kennedy told police she went swimming in a canal near her boyfriend’s house on March 3, the same night her boyfriend reported her as missing. While swimming, she said she entered a doorway in the shallow part of the canal and noticed a tunnel. She continued following tunnels until she realized she was lost.

Kennedy was eventually rescued near the intersection of West Atlantic Avenue and SW 11th Avenue after a woman called 911 to report a woman yelling for help from inside the drain. She said she had stopped walking in that area because she could see light and people walking past her.

The woman, who was 43 at the time, told police she had been walking in the sewer system for about three weeks. She also said she had been living off an unopened can of ginger ale she found in the drain while looking for a way out.
Three weeks on a single can of ginger ale? Riiiiiight.

Putin Wants to Buy U.S. Weapons Biden Left in Afghanistan
[PJMedia] Billions of dollars worth of U.S. weapons are on the negotiating table between Russian strongman Vladimir Putin and Afghanistan’s Taliban government, according to at least one insider.

Presidentish Joe Biden’s bungled bugout from Afghanistan resulted in a windfall for the new radical Islamic government, including artillery, attack helicopters, and thousands of HUMVEES, machine guns, radios — all left behind as our orderly withdrawal degenerated into a rout.

The Department of Defense estimates the total value of the gear Biden left behind at a whopping $7.12 billion, and now Putin is reportedly offering to buy whatever he and the battered Russian Army need.

The Russian Ministry of Defense hasn’t commented on the rumor.

Tlaib flies Paleostinian flag at US office after Ben Gvir tries to ban them in Israel

[IsraelTimes] Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib has placed a Paleostinian flag outside of her office in the US Congress in response to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s effort to have the national symbol banned in Israel.

"Paleostinians may be banned from flying their flag under an apartheid government, but we can still proudly do it at my office. I’m proud to be a Paleostinian American and I want the Paleostinian people to know that not all Americans support apartheid. No one can erase our existence," Tlaib tweets.

Israeli law permits the display of Paleostinian flags, though police have wide leeway to take action to maintain public order and regularly remove them from public spaces and confiscate the flags from those waving them.

#2  So we have an LSD official for Michigan's 12th congressional district openly supporting a murderous International Terrorist Group and a Domestic Terrorist. Despite the domestic terrorist having used a ILLEGAL obtained or carried firearm, while he was attempting to murder a police enforcing established Laws.

So, again, we see the usual double legal standard being applied. Given the LSD's open hatred of the 2nd amendment, only when in the hands of a Constitution following citizen.

But, NOT their own.

#6  As best as I can ascertain from a historical study of Congress calls for any Dem to be brought before the ethics committee will guarantee that Talib be assigned as ranking member of the Ethics Committee. Schiff and Swallwell are examples of their counterintuitive assignment strategy. There are so many others: Omar on International relations, the guy who thought Guam could capsize, Feinstein to any committee that doesn’t include a Bingo caller. Dems seem to want their members to work on their weaknesses. I think there is a limit to the number of folks that can be assigned to any committee so that may prevent Talib’s assignment until other more senior retrobates retire.

Rand Paul: FBI Will only Be Reformed if We Remove and Replace Top 10% of the Agency
[Breitbart] On Tuesday’s broadcast of Newsmax TV’s “Eric Bolling The Balance,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) argued that the FBI’s leadership has become a “political class” and that reforming the agency is “only going to happen if we get a president who gets rid of the top 10% and brings in some law enforcement people” who are not political actors.

Paul stated, “I think it’s swamp fever, Potomac fever. The ones closest to the swamp have become infected with influence and power and politics. I play golf with a retired FBI agent. He’s conservative. Most of the agents that I meet in the field are conservative. They’re typical law enforcement kind of people. … But really it’s the political class up here that is corruptible and [has] become very left-wing…these are the people infiltrating the FBI at the highest levels. We need a thorough cleaning. It’s only going to happen if we get a president who gets rid of the top 10% and brings in some law enforcement people from out in Kansas or Kentucky or someplace, people who truly are law enforcement people and let’s repopulate the FBI at the top with real law enforcement people, not politicians.”

Human Rights Ministry condemns Saudi airstrikes on Hodeidah
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The Ministry of Human Rights strongly condemns the crime committed by the Saudi-led aggression aircraft in the Al-Sharja area of Al-Jarrahi District in Hodeidah province, which left three children dead and a number of wounded.

The Ministry of Human Rights strongly condemns the crime committed by the Saudi-led aggression aircraft in the Al-Sharja area of Al-Jarrahi District in Hodeidah province, which left three children dead and a number of wounded.

In a statement, the Ministry of Human Rights also denounced the continuation of the killings and violations committed by the Saudi regime against Yemenis in the border regions.

“Hardly a day passes without the Saudi regime’s army committing a new crime against defenseless Yemenis on the borderlands, as well as African migrants, whether by direct sniping or bombing with medium and heavy weapons on civilians and populated neighborhoods,” the statement said.

“Despite the escalating death toll, rural hospitals filled with hundreds of them, and the continuous violations in Hodeidah, the latest of which was a crime on Tuesday, and in light of the repeated calls made by government agencies and local organizations to stop Saudi crime, the world turns a blind eye to the crimes of the Saudi regime,” the statement added.

“The Saudi regime persists in committing crimes in cold blood, deepening in the destruction of lives and bloodshed, reassured by the absence of international justice to condemn and hold it accountable, and taking advantage of the state of silence, inaction, and international and UN complicity, whose hypocrisy and duplicity exceeded the limits.”

The Ministry of Human Rights renewed the appeal to the global human conscience, organizations and the free people of the world to stand in solidarity with the grievances of the Yemenis, and what they are exposed to for the eighth year in a row from constant bombing, siege and killing.

It held the US and Britain responsible for these crimes due to their giving the Saudi regime international cover and support to continue committing more crimes.

The ministry demanded the formation of impartial international commissions to investigate all crimes, and to bring the perpetrators to international justice.

Spanish police arrest 74-year-old man over letter bombs sent to PM, embassies

Spanish police on Wednesday arrested a 74-year-old man suspected of sending parcel-bombs in November and December to targets including the Ukrainian and US embassies and the prime minister’s office, the interior ministry said.

The man was detained in the northern town of Miranda de Ebro, and police searched his home.

The suspect is a retired Spanish citizen with the initials P.G.P. who is tech-savvy and very active on social networks, the ministry said.

"Although it is presumed that the detainee made and sent the bombs by himself, police do not rule out the participation or influence of other persons in the events," it added in a statement.

Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska declined to comment on reports that a Russian group could be behind the attacks.

"We are working on all possibilities," Grande-Marlaska told news hounds from Vitoria. "The investigation is very advanced and we can really be very satisfied."

Armed officers kept people away the low-rise cinder-block building housing the man’s third-floor apartment in a blue-collar neighborhood.

A video provided by the interior ministry showed officers and a sniffer dog searching a silver Peugeot car parked outside as forensic specialists took photographs. Police also appeared to gain access to a lock-up garage.

Witnesses said the suspect remained inside the house as the searches were conducted.

The man used to work for the town hall of the Basque capital Vitoria-Gasteiz before retiring in 2013, a city spokesperson said. Miranda de Ebro is 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of Vitoria.

A total of six parcels with explosives were sent between November 24 and December 2. In addition to the two embassies and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s office, they were addressed to the defense ministry, an air force base and a weapons manufacturer.

Most were defused, although an employee at the Ukrainian embassy was slightly injured when one ignited.

Investigators have concluded that all six parcels were sent from the city of Burgos, the ministry said.

A source close to the inquiry had told Rooters in early December that all the parcels had been mailed from Valladolid, a two-hour drive from Miranda del Ebro.

The New York Times

... which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported on Sunday that Sherlocks had focused on the Russian Imperial Movement, a group with ties to Spanish far-right organizations that was believed to be linked to Russian intelligence.

Spanish officials have declined to comment on the report, while a senior judicial source denied having knowledge of such a line of investigation.

The suspect is due to appear before the High Court on Friday, a court source said.

From Stanford University’s Center For International Security And Cooperation, courtesy of Omeating Sinatra4388 in comments yesterday:
The Russian Imperial Movement (RIM) is an extreme-right, white supremacist militant organization based in St. Petersburg, Russia. Founded in 2002, the group promotes ethnic Russian nationalism, advocates the restoration of Russia’s tsarist regime, and seeks to fuel white supremacy extremism in the West. RIM maintains contacts with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups across Europe and the United States. The group has provided paramilitary training to Russian nationals and members of like-minded organizations from other countries at its facilities in St. Petersburg. Members of RIM’s armed wing, the Imperial Legion, have fought alongside pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and been involved in conflicts in Libya and Syria. In addition to its ultra-nationalist beliefs, RIM is known for its anti-Semitic and anti-Ukrainian views. The U.S. State Department listed RIM as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in April 2020. It is the first white supremacist group to be designated as a SDGT.

Two people were killed and several others wounded in a knife attack on a regional train in northern Germany
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Two people were killed and several others maimed in a knife attack on a regional train in northern Germany Wednesday, police said, announcing that the alleged assailant had been captured.

The stabbings occurred on a train traveling between the cities of Hamburg and Kiel, a front man for the federal police force said.

The suspect was taken into custody at the railway station in the town of Brokstedt.

It was not immediately clear how many people had been injured or how serious their condition was. Media reports cited around five maimed.

Regional Interior Minister Sabine Suetterlin-Waack said she was "shocked" by the attack and that her "thoughts were with the families and loved ones of the victims."

She added that federal and state police were "working closely together" to determine a motive.

Germany’s national rail company said some trains on the line between Hamburg and Kiel had been canceled to allow police to conduct their investigation.

Germany has been hit in recent years by several deadly knife attacks, some carried out by holy warriors and others by people suffering from serious psychological problems. A German court in December sentenced a Syrian-born man to 14 years in prison for an holy warrior knife attack on a train in which he injured four passengers. Last year a German court committed a Somali man to a psychiatric hospital after he stabbed three people to death in the southern city of Wuerzburg in 2021.
Deutsche Welle adds:
Reports on the young man's age varied slightly in the hours following the attack. But police said a 33-year-old suspect had been taken to hospital while under arrest to treat minor injuries.

Three of those maimed were seriously hurt, four suffered minor injuries.

WHAT ELSE DO WE KNOW SO FAR?
Police said the attack took place as the train was approaching Brokstedt, a small community of around 2,000 people north of Hamburg. A suspect was arrested when the train reached Brokstedt station. Multiple travelers had called the emergency services from the train.

Police later said that three passengers had eventually managed to restrain the suspected attacker on board, and that police arrived at the scene with him under their control.

According to police, further details remained elusive around two hours after the attack. Neither suspected motives or reasons for the attacker's actions, nor the condition of those injured was entirely clear.

Police said the suspect was not thought to have been on any krazed killer watch lists, based on preliminary checks.

The dpa news agency also reported, but this time citing security sources speaking off the record, that the man was exhibiting signs of a pyschiatric illness.
From the Daily Mail:
A passenger said people in his train carriage panicked when three hysterical girls ran into their carriage and screamed that the attacker had stabbed people further down the train.

The attacker is believed to have fled the train once it stopped at the station and continued to stab people on the platform before being tackled by police officers, reports Bild.

The 33-year-old knifeman has not been identified but he is believed to be a Palestinian refugee from Gaza.

He is also in hospital receiving treatment under police guard after he reportedly stabbed himself amid his attack on fellow passengers. The suspect reportedly had a temporary residence permit with him during the attack.
And from Breitbart:
Several deaths and further injuries were reported on a German regional railway service, allegedly at the hand of a Syrian migrant, local media claimed on Wednesday afternoon.

Two people are known dead and “several” people are injured after a stabbing attack on a regional commuter train travelling between Hamburg and Kiel, in Schleswig-Holstein. The knifeman is under police guard in hospital following the attack, having reportedly turned the knife on himself in the attack which took place around 3pm local time (0900 EST).

Several ambulances and a medical helicopter attended the victims aboard the train once it stopped at Brokstedt, which has now been closed to allow the emergency services to work.

According to the Bild, Europe’s biggest circulation newspaper, and their own sources the attacker was Syrian in origin but little more could be instantly said about him because paper documents he had on his person at the time of his arrest were so blood-stained they could not be read.

Deutsche Welle reports “further details” about the knifeman are still not known two hours after the attack and no motives are known.
The Times of Israel confuses things further:
The interior minister of Schleswig-Holstein state, Sabine Suetterlin-Waack told dpa that the attacker was a stateless 33-year-old Palestinian man.

German tanks with crosses - again in the steppes of Ukraine

Scholz decided to send a company of Leopard 2A6 tanks (14 pieces) to Kiev.

The Fritz raised their heads again, nothing changes. Not surprising. In Ukraine, the Anglo-Saxons are playing all-in and will raise the stakes to the last Ukrainian, Pole, German, until the war affects the territory of the United States and Britain.

Our guys will burn their tanks, shoot videos and distribute them to the whole world. Very good advertisement. The Americans will not deliver their Abrams. They promise, but find a reason not to deliver.

Dozens protest central bank chief as pound plunges to 56,000
[An Nahar] Protesters on Wednesday blocked roads and burnt tires near the central bank in Beirut as the weakened local currency plummeted to a new low against the dollar.

Alaa Kharchib of the Depositors' Outcry Association that had organised the demonstration warned of an impending "social explosion".

"No one trusts our corrupt officials or the central bank governor," Kharchib told AFP.

Lebanese banks have imposed draconian restrictions on withdrawals since the country's economy collapsed three years ago, essentially cutting off people from their savings and prompting public anger.

Dozens of protesters gathered Wednesday near the central bank headquarters amid heavy deployment of security forces, AFP correspondents said.

Protesters rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud lambasting long-time central bank governor Riad Salameh
...Governor of Lebanon'scentral bank, Banque du Liban since April 1993. Salameh was appointed Governor by decree, approved by the Council of Ministers for a renewable term of six years. He was reappointed for four consecutive terms; in 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. Salameh chairs the Banque du Liban Central Council, the Higher Banking Commission, the AML/CFT Special Investigation Commission and the Capital Markets Authority. Salameh is a member of the board of governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Salameh is the longest-serving central bank governor in the world....
, one of several officials widely blamed for Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. ...
's economic demise, and burnt images of him.

Salameh is under an international investigation in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
on suspicions of financial misconduct including money laundering and embezzlement.

Demonstrators held up posters calling Salameh "public enemy number one" and others saying: "We won't go hungry, we'll eat you," taking a jab at the country's ruling elite, the correspondents said.

The Lebanese pound, which had already lost more than 95 percent of its value since 2019, plunged to nearly 56,000 to the U.S. dollar on the parallel market, dealers said.

The main official exchange rate still pegs the pound at 1,507 to the greenback -- its value before the crisis.

FSB releases evidence of how the Poles killed the prisoners of Auschwitz
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] The Poles from among the bandits and robbers, together with the Nazis, killed the prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Auschwitz - the corresponding declassified document was published by the FSB on the eve of the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the largest "death factory" by the Soviet troops.

The German concentration camp "Auschwitz" in Auschwitz has become one of the main symbols of the Holocaust. In 1941-1945, about 1.4 million people died there, of which about 1.1 million were Jews. On January 27, 1945, units of the 1st Ukrainian Front liberated the concentration camp. This date is celebrated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This year Russia was uninvited to the commemorative ceremony because of the invasion of Ukraine. See link at the bottom of this post.
Even before the liberation of Auschwitz, the bodies of the Soviet military counterintelligence Smersh began to collect and document evidence of the crimes of the concentration camp administration and prisoners who agreed to cooperate with the Nazis. In addition to the guards from the local Polish population, the Nazis actively used in their interests "kapos" (from the German "Kameradschaft-Polizei", literally "comradely police"), which included barracks elders, overseers, and senior workers' teams.

The FSB published a document with the story of a former Auschwitz prisoner, senior lieutenant of the Red Army Pavel Gavrish, who was lucky enough to escape from a concentration camp. Since the officer had a good literary style, employees of the Smersh department of the 1st Ukrainian Front in August 1944 asked him to present information about the "death factory" in the form of a brief essay. This document was then transferred to the Extraordinary State Commission for the Establishment and Investigation of the Atrocities of the Nazi Invaders and Their Accomplices.

Once in the concentration camp, the prisoner became "a slave with a number pierced on the chest of prisoners of war or on the arm of civilians," Gavrish testified.
That number corresponded to each slave or prisoner’s IBM computer file, set up with the help of Thomas Watson, then CEO of the company.
"Together with political prisoners, robbers, murderers and pederasts were thrown into the concentration camp, who were instructed to maintain internal order in the camp," the Soviet officer added.

Internal order and discipline, Gavrish reported, was maintained by the senior barracks (bloc) and senior workers of the teams (kapos), appointed from Germans or Poles, who were serving sentences for banditry, murder and robbery.

According to him, the administration of the concentration camp was faced with the task of destroying as many prisoners as possible, "which was carried out with zeal."

"Only a certain part of the prisoners was employed in the construction of the camp, all other work carried out within the camp did not make any sense. Taking the teams to work, each capo received the task of destroying a certain number of prisoners. When returning to the camp, each team was a funeral procession, carrying 50-100 corpses. Zeal at the same time was due to the fact that the portions of the dead remained for the bloc, the kapos and their henchmen," said Gavrish.

As the officer recalled, "the daily ration of the prisoners consisted of 0.75 liters of soup, 250 grams of ersatz bread and 20 grams of stinky cheese or ersatz margarine, which was not always and not completely managed to be obtained."

Having captured Poland in September 1939 , the German Nazis renamed the Polish city of Auschwitz into Auschwitz, naming the concentration camp created on the personal instructions of the Reichsführer SS Himmler in April 1940.

Initially, political prisoners from among the Poles were kept there. After the German attack on the Soviet Union, captured soldiers of the Red Army began to be sent to the camp, on whom in August 1941 the SS men first experienced gassing. Then "Auschwitz" became the main center for the extermination of Jews by the Nazis and their henchmen. It was a complex of concentration camps, which were based on "Auschwitz I", "Auschwitz II - Birkenau" and "Auschwitz III - Monowitz".

At the beginning of the 20th century, concentration camps were created by Great Britain , the German Empire, and then by Nazi Germany, the USA and a number of other countries. Poland has made a considerable "contribution" to this inhumane practice.

After the defeat of the Red Army near Warsaw and Lvov in the summer of 1919, more than 150,000 Red Army prisoners ended up in Poland. They were concentrated in about 20 camps. The best known of these are the camps in Bialystok, Brest-Litovsk, Wadowice , Domba, Strzalkow and Tuchol.

Due to the insensitive and irresponsible attitude of the Polish authorities in these concentration camps, as a result of cruel treatment of prisoners, complete unsanitary conditions, disease and hunger, according to various estimates, from 20 to 80 thousand soldiers and commanders of the Red Army died.

And a year after the creation by the Nazis of the first concentration camp for political prisoners in Dachau (1933), in 1934 a concentration camp was created in Poland for the extrajudicial detention of political prisoners in Bereza-Kartuzskaya. From 1934 to 1939, opponents of the ruling Pilsudski's regime were kept there in extremely difficult conditions on charges of "anti-state activity": oppositionists, communists, leaders of the Jewish, Ukrainian and Belarusian national movements. During the period of its existence, according to various estimates, 8-10 thousand prisoners passed through this camp. In the fall of 1939, the camp was liberated by units of the Red Army during its "Liberation Campaign".

In Poland, Jews were exterminated not only in concentration camps. On July 10, 1941, during a Jewish pogrom in the town of Jedwabne in the east of the country, Polish nationalists killed, according to various sources, from 340 to 1,500 Jews. For a long time it was believed that the Nazis, who occupied the city at that time, were to blame for that tragedy, but in the 1990s it was proved that the Poles were responsible for what happened. Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski apologized for this crime in 2001, but the current head of state , Andrzej Duda , speaking at an election debate in 2015, said that the Poles allegedly did not participate in the Holocaust, and the accusations of this were false.

In modern Poland, a version is spreading that the mass murder of Jews in Jedwabna in 1941 was committed not by the Poles, but by the Germans, although the Institute of National Remembrance had previously recognized that local residents, and not the Nazi occupiers, were responsible for this crime.

What is a Facebook page anyway? It's a web page, kinda like Rantburg. The difference is that Fred has total control of Rantburg while people who have Facebook pages have only limited control. Facebook is owned and operated by Mark Zuckerberg so it's really his web page, not yours.

Former Head Of Teacher Union In Arlington, Virginia Arrested After Embezzling Over $400,000
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

A former Virginia teachers’ union president was arrested on Monday for pilfering more than $400,000 from her organization.

Ingrid Gant, who led the Arlington Education Association for six years, was charged with four counts of embezzlement following a six-month investigation, the Fairfax County Police Department announced in a press release. An independent auditor who worked with police found that Gant awarded herself many bonuses and improperly made charges to her organization’s debit cards.

Gant is the second teachers’ union head to face charges for abuse of funds just this month. In a strikingly similar case, a former teachers’ union treasurer in Reading, Pa., was charged on Jan. 6 for embezzling more than $400,000 since 2016, the Reading Eagle reported. The treasurer resigned in September when confronted with the improper expenditures.

June Prakash, the president of the Arlington Education Association, declined to comment. Her organization says it “is pursuing all legal channels to recoup any lost funds and hold those responsible accountable.”

We must form such a tank fist, such a fist of freedom, after whose blows tyranny will not rise again."

The President also spoke in more detail about his today's conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg: "We must also open the supply of long-range missiles for Ukraine, it is important - we must expand our cooperation in artillery, we must enter the supply of aircraft for Ukraine. And this is a dream. And it's a task."

22:02 The war in Ukraine has entered a phase when both sides are preparing for a decisive offensive. The confidence with which future offensives by Russia and Ukraine are being discussed is already so great that the conversation is not about the possibility of such operations, but about the time when they begin, and the direction of the strikes. The enemy throws a significant amount of personnel, weapons and military equipment into battle, trying to break through our defenses, suffers significant losses, but does not give up of their plans. The intensity of the fighting is growing. Now in the Donbass, against their advantage in the number of fighters and weapons, our advantage is in the professionalism of the military command and the courage of the soldiers."

21:10 Zaluzhny declared zero tolerance for corruption in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine: “Zero tolerance for corruption is confessed in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, any information about its possible manifestations must be carefully checked, received a legal assessment and an appropriate response. Separately, we considered the topic of mass illegal export of Ukrainian children by Russia.

The US President also said that Washington expects an increase in Russian offensive operations in Ukraine in the coming weeks, and assured that the actions of the West in the context of Ukraine do not pose a threat to the Russian Federation. The Israeli Ministry of Defense recalled that the country still does not supply weapons to Ukraine, and the MIM-23 Hawk systems are not in working order due to long storage without proper maintenance.

18:37 Ukraine received two more Bayraktar TB2 drones from the Turkish company Baykar. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Baykar company transferred them free of charge to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

18:12 Reznikov said that he had spoken with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin: "We discussed the results of the Ramstein-8 meeting, further strengthening of the Ukrainian army, including the supply of tanks and the maintenance of new weapons. More good news will be announced soon."

18:06 Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have completely moved away from the settlement of Soledar, Donetsk region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine completed the main task: they did not allow Russian troops to systematically break through the front line in the Donetsk direction and enter the rear, and then move to the operational space. More details - in the material Trap for the enemy .

18:03 UNESCO recognized the historical center of Odessa as an object of historical heritage under threat. The city's application was supported by six countries, Russia voted against.

17:59 At least two weeks will pass from the moment the offensive group is formed in Belarus to its possible invasion of Ukraine, head of the State Border Service Sergei Deineko said. According to him, at present the enemy has not created a single offensive grouping on the territory of Belarus, so there are no real threats to Ukraine from this direction now.

"We will have at least two weeks. Our intelligence is working very well, steadily. No enemy plans can be hidden from our intelligence officers," Deineko assured. He added that between 6,000 and 10,000 Russian servicemen are now in Belarus, who are participating in joint exercises. The Ukrainian military is monitoring the situation and is ready for any development of events.

17:55 Reznikov announced changes in military catering, which should be implemented within 4-5 months. In particular, a flexible but unified menu system will be introduced, which will be based not on money and calories, but on units of measure and calories - this is a common approach in NATO. The new menu will take into account the special nutritional requirements of species, genera and forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are also plans to develop a vegan, halal, kosher menu and a lenten menu of the Christian tradition.

This is the first case on the occupation of the East of Ukraine in 2014 and another court decision to bring the Russian Federation to international legal responsibility, Yermak said.

The case concerns Russia's administrative practice of human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014, as well as the downing of MH17. The decision will help hold the Russian Federation accountable for the occupation of Ukrainian territories, human rights violations and other crimes.

16:56 Bloomberg writes that the United States will send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Biden is expected to speak today at 19:00 Kyiv time on the issue of military assistance to Ukraine.

16:41 The Russians are trying to recruit about 150 Belarusian repairmen to work at the ZNPP. According to Energoatom, they are needed in order to hastily repair the damage resulting from shelling, which the Russians themselves arrange. The Russian occupants fail to force the Ukrainian nuclear scientists to cooperate.

16:33 Podolyak predicts that Russia will resort to offensive actions in the short term, but will lose a lot of personnel, forces and means. As part of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia will suffer two to four significant defeats, "and it is after this that the processes of disintegration and final demoralization in the Russian army will become irreversible."

According to the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, protests will begin in the Russian Federation not of a political, but of a social nature - because of loved ones lost in the war. At this time, internal strife will begin in Putin's entourage, there will be a classic Russian search for the guilty, the power verticals will weaken and begin to rapidly decline.

Podolyak predicts that the Ukrainian army will stop at the borders of 1991, and an uncontrolled political transformation will begin in Russia. As a result, the temporarily formed government of the Russian Federation will begin real negotiations on responsibility for crimes in Ukraine and on demilitarization zones on the border.

"The date for the implementation of this scenario depends on the tools available to Ukraine - on when Ukraine will receive the exact number of well-defined weapons. Ukraine has provided our partner Alliance with specific numbers and names. Now we are at the stage when the war is a reasonable mathematical model. The formula is simple: you want end the war as soon as possible - give Ukraine more weapons that we ask for in a timely manner," Podolyak wrote.

16:09 The Armed Forces of Ukraine will not leave Bakhmut as long as it is possible to defend there, said the speaker of the General Staff Andrey Kovalev: "As long as there are basements in Bakhmut and the ability to hold this territory, the fighters will stay there." According to him, the situation is under control and there is no question of retreat now.

15:48 In Berislav, Kherson region, the Russians fired at a place of mass congestion of people - the shells hit a grocery store in which there were people. As a result of the shelling, two people were killed and three were injured, the IVA said.

15:37 Belgium will give Ukraine a package of military assistance, which will include anti-tank weapons, ammunition and means to strengthen air defense, Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder said. She added that there are no tanks in Belgium - the country abandoned them ten years ago. However, there is a possibility that they will be bought back for further transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

15:09 Zelensky said that he had a conversation with Scholz: "German main battle tanks, further expansion of defense support and training missions, green light for partners to supply similar weapons. I just heard about these important and timely decisions in a conversation with the federal chancellor."

15:06 Putin called the next goal of the "special operation" the protection of Russia from threats that "are trying to create in our own historical territories adjacent to us."

14:59 Germany still believes that escalation between Russia and NATO must be avoided, Scholz said: "In everything we do, we must always make it clear that we will do everything necessary and possible to support Ukraine, but at the same same time to prevent the escalation of the war before the war between Russia and NATO".

The chancellor also stressed that Germany would not supply combat aircraft to Ukraine and send its soldiers "neither now nor in the future."

14:47 Ukraine will receive a total of 80 Leopard 2 tanks from Europe, writes Spiegel. This is enough for two battalions, and the third battalion will be equipped with American Abrams. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the first Leopards would arrive in about three months.

13:36 The Ukrainian Defense Forces have withdrawn from Soledar in order to save the lives of personnel , spokesman for the Eastern Group of Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty said: "After months of fierce fighting, including in recent weeks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine left Soledar and retreated around the neighborhood to previously prepared positions" .

13:23 Ukraine in February will receive 10,000 Starlink terminals from Germany, Mikhail Fedorov, head of the Ministry of Digital Development, said.

12:54 Ukrainian crews for Leopard will be trained in Germany, training will begin as soon as possible, the German government said. In addition, the German side will help Ukraine with logistics, ammunition and tank maintenance.

12:45 The German government announced that it will supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 tanks. Berlin will also allow other countries to re-export tanks to Ukraine.

12:39 "Head" of the occupied Zaporozhye region Yevgeny Balitsky said that Ukrainian troops are preparing a counteroffensive in the Zaporizhia direction, an accumulation of up to 40 thousand people is allegedly recorded.

12:34 In Spain, a man was detained, suspected of sending letters with explosives, in particular to the address of the Ukrainian embassy, writes El País. Police have arrested a 74-year-old man in the northern city of Burgos as the alleged author of six letters sent in late November and early December. Among the recipients were Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, as well as the Ukrainian and US embassies in Madrid.

According to the report, the suspect allegedly acted on his own and was not affiliated with any group. The police conduct a search at his place of residence in Burgos.

12:17 The "LPR" announced a Ukrainian strike from HIMARS on the building of a music school in Kremennaya.

12:13 Today, there is a powerful regrouping of Russian troops in all directions on the front line, Vadim Skibitsky, spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, said. According to him, the enemy's mobilization reserves are moving, the Russians are preparing for a powerful offensive. The change of commanders of the Russian Federation, the completion of the first stage of mobilization, the regrouping of Russian troops indicate that spring and early summer will be decisive in this war.

According to military intelligence, Russia has asked many countries to provide ammunition, but many understand that Russia has already lost strategically, so relations with it are becoming very dangerous. In particular, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense does not have clear data that a large amount of weapons from North Korea is entering Russia.

Meanwhile, on the territory of Belarus, the land component is 5,800 servicemen, but there is a problem with equipment. The second mechanized division of the 1st Panzer Army was supposed to be ready for combat use on December 1, but "people were caught up, but there was no equipment," Skibitsky noted. This division has now moved to the territory of Russia, from where it entered the territory of Ukraine in the Lugansk region.

On the territory of Belarus today there is one Iskander division, anti-aircraft missile systems S-300, S-400 and three MIG-31 aircraft.

12:00 The New York Times reports, citing satellite imagery data, that the number of graves in the cemetery near the village of the Baku Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation, owned by PMC Wagner, has increased seven times over the past two months. The photo taken on January 24 shows about 170 graves.

11:58 The EU ambassadors approved the extension of all economic sanctions applied by the European Union against the Russian Federation for another six months, Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak said.

11:53 Peskov said that there are no prospects for entering the diplomatic path of resolving the situation around Ukraine now.

11:49 Portugal is preparing four Leopard 2A6 tanks for transfer to Ukraine, writes Correio da Manhã, citing government sources. In turn, El País reports that Spain is also preparing to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine - after Germany grants permission for this.

11:42 Stoltenberg called on NATO countries to increase support for Ukraine, including with tanks and other heavy equipment: "There are no signs that President Putin has changed his goal of dominating Ukraine. Nothing indicates that he is preparing for peace. He is willing to sacrifice tens of thousands of Russian soldiers in this totally unjustified war, has mobilized over 200,000 troops, plans to mobilize more, and is actively working to get more weapons from other authoritarian states such as Iran and North Korea. We know that Russia is planning new offensives and we must be ready for them. That is why it is so important that we continue to strengthen our support for Ukraine."

11:18 Electricity consumption in Ukraine is increasing due to a cold snap, respectively, the power shortage is also increasing significantly, Ukrenergo reported. All oblenergos have been notified of daily consumption limits.

10:59 Director of the Procurement Department of the Ministry of Defense Bogdan Khmelnitsky, who appears in the scandal over food purchases for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was dismissed from his post, said Anastasia Radina, head of the anti-corruption committee of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She added that the head of the defense department "has no legal claims against the author of the journalistic investigation."

10:49 Zelensky, by his decree, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to expand the list of sanctions that are imposed on the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Pavel (Lebed), other hierarchs of the UOC-MP and former MP Vadim Novinsky.

10:33 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Russian sources announced an offensive in the Vuhledar region of the Donetsk region to divert attention from the lack of progress in Bakhmut. Analysts have not recorded any video footage indicating that Russian forces have indeed launched a localized offensive in the Ugledar area as of January 25.

The ISW notes that the Russians are likely to repeat the information campaign in the Zaporozhye region, where they circulated allegations of localized offensives without any confirmation in order to divert attention from the failures in Bakhmut. Experts emphasize that the 155th Marine Brigade, which is trying to advance in Vuhledar, has greatly degraded during offensive operations in November 2022 and is unlikely to be able to resume the offensive on this sector of the front.

10:12 British intelligence reports that Russia has been working on preparing a small number of T-14 Armata main battle tanks for use in Ukraine, but in recent months, Russian troops have been reluctant to accept the first batch of T-14s allocated to them due to the poor condition of the vehicles. It is not clear what characteristics of the tanks caused such a reaction, but over the past three years, Russian officials have publicly described problems with the T-14 engine and thermal imaging systems.

In 2021, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu described the production batch planned for 2022 as "pilot production". Therefore, it is unlikely that the T-14 tanks will meet the usual standards for the new equipment to be considered combat-ready, analysts say.

09:49 Erdogan today convenes a meeting of the Security Council, which will also discuss the work of the grain corridor and the war in Ukraine, Anadolu reports.

09:24 In the Kherson region over the past day, due to Russian shelling, one person was killed, six were injured, the OVA reported.

08:48 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, ten civilians were injured: five in Konstantinovka, two in Toretsk, one each in Veliky Novoselka, Avdeevka and Krasnogorovka, said the head of the OVA Pavel Kirilenko.

08:32 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy as of the morning of January 25th.

  • personnel - about 123,080 (+910) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 3161 (+9),

  • armored combat vehicles - 6307 (+23),

  • artillery systems - 2154 (+6),

  • MLRS - 450 (+2),

  • air defense systems - 220 (+0),

  • aircraft - 290 (+1),

  • helicopters - 281 (+0),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 1902 (+5),

  • cruise missiles - 749 (+0),

  • ships/boats - 18 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 4967 (+23),

  • special equipment - 194 (+0).

08:24 The enemy, although suffering numerous losses, still does not stop offensive operations in the Limansky, Bakhmutsky, Avdeevsky and Novopavlovsky directions. On Kupyansky, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson - it is defending itself, the General Staff said in the morning summary . The units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the invaders in the areas of the settlements of Belogorovka, Lugansk region and Razdolivka, Krasnaya Gora, Bakhmut, Novobakhmutovka, Krasnogorovka, Maryinka and Charivne, Donetsk region.

According to the General Staff, Russia recruits imprisoned citizens of Ukraine who were forcibly taken to Russian places of detention. In particular, in Krasnodar there is an active recruitment of such persons into the Wagner PMC. The majority of Ukrainian prisoners are dissatisfied with the forced change of position and the dismissive attitude of Russian prisoners towards them. The people who are serving sentences for serious criminal offenses are most actively called to participate in the war against Ukraine.

From Kakhovka in the Kherson region, the invaders are taking medical equipment from the central city hospital to Genichesk.

05:47 Resignations related to cases of corruption in the Ukrainian government are not related to financial, military and humanitarian aid from the United States, State Department spokesman Ned Price said. The Biden administration is not aware of any misuse of US aid in Ukraine, he said, and US aid to Ukraine is subject to close scrutiny.

At the same time, Price acknowledged that the destruction caused by the Russian invasion complicated efforts to track weapons, as well as economic and humanitarian aid, which Washington sent to Kyiv.

04:33 The US Department of Defense plans to increase the production of artillery ammunition by 500% within two years - up to 90,000 shells per month, the NYT writes, citing an American army official. The Pentagon is set to ramp up production of conventional munitions to levels not seen since the Korean War to make up for shortages caused by the war in Ukraine and to stockpile for future conflicts.

03:51 Biden will announce the transfer of Abrams tanks to Ukraine on Wednesday, January 25, Al-Jazeera and AP report, citing US officials. The tanks will not be transferred from American stocks, but contracted - that is, purchased from manufacturers under long-term contracts. This means that the cars will not appear in Ukraine soon, and such a move is seen as a symbolic gesture aimed at getting Germany's consent to the supply of Leopard 2.

Reuters writes, citing three unnamed US officials, that the United States may announce a decision to supply Ukraine with 30 American Abrams M1 tanks. The delivery process can take months.

02:05 Peskov said that for "several years" Putin had neither personal nor telephone contacts with Zelensky.

00:01 Zelensky signed bill No. 8271, which provides for criminal liability for the military for violation of discipline, failure to comply with combat orders, desertion and flight from a military unit.

Report: Juvenile Crime Soared Nationwide Following Pandemic-Related School Shutdowns
[Breitbart] Crime among juveniles soared nationwide following the pandemic-related school shutdowns in 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing data from law enforcement agencies.

Juvenile crime had been steadily decreasing from 2000 to 2010, as youths in detention facilities had dropped by 77 percent, according to federal data. However, the rate of juveniles being either the perpetrators or victims of violent crime has substantially risen since the start of the decade.

In 2020, crimes committed by juveniles acting alone rose by 30 percent from the previous year, while crimes committed by multiple juveniles rose by 66 percent. Federal data from 2020 also revealed that the rate of juveniles committing homicide against other juveniles was at a two-decade high.

The rise in youth violence appears to be connected to the disruptions in learning from the pandemic lockdowns, the WSJ reported:

Police, prosecutors and community groups attribute much of the youth violence to broad disruptions that started with the pandemic and lockdowns. Schools shut down, depriving students of structure in daily life, as did services for troubled children. Increased stress compounded a swelling mental-health crisis. Social-media conflicts increasingly turned deadly.

The outlet also reported that authorities claim that heightened gang activity and easier access to firearms have contributed to youth violence.

Major urban cities, such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, have released data that shows the trend of youth criminal incidences has risen since 2020.

In the Big Apple, 157 youths were the victims of a shooting incident. In comparison, only 127 youths were victims in 2018 and 2019 combined. Furthermore, 124 juveniles committed shootings in 2022, double the rate from two years ago.

Violence at juvenile detention facilities has also reportedly increased since the pandemic within the city, as there were more 257 youth-on-youth incidences from January 1 to June 30, 2022, at a Bronx juvenile facility, almost than double from the same period from the previous year, the New York Post reported.

In Philadelphia, 117 juveniles were arrested for shootings in 2022, up from 43 in 2020. More disturbingly, 81 juveniles were reportedly murdered in 2022, compared to just 52 in 2019 and 2020 combined.

Homicides among youth have also risen considerably in Washington DC, as 16 youths were fatally shot last year compared to just nine in 2021. There were also 214 juveniles arrested on firearm-related cases in the nation’s capital last year.

The rise in juvenile crime has promoted Democrat Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark to consider more punitive measures against violent youth criminals, despite previously supporting a 2017 state law that discontinued prosecuting 16 and 17-year-olds as adults.

“I don’t want to lock them up and throw away the key because they’re young,” Clark recently told the WSJ. “But at the same time, they have to know the consequences for their actions.”

Clark also conceded that too many juveniles are being sent to family court on firearm-possession cases and are being released early as a result. If this continues, the district attorney fears that they may commit a more serious crime in the future or end up being killed themselves.

SDF, Coalition Launch Anti-ISIS Operation In Syria’s Raqqa, Tabqa, tie up dozens of turbans

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday that they had launched a new operation to pursue Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells in coordination with the US-led Global Coalition in Raqqa, Tabqa and surrounding regions, north Syria.

The SDF media center announced, in a statement, a large-scale security operation named “Operation Retaliation for Raqqa Martyrs,” aiming to target ISIS sleeper cells and their operatives, destroying channels of communication between them, uprooting their potential hideouts and drying up their enabling environment, primarily facilitators and recruitment networks.

In December 2022, a group of ISIS militants attacked a security center of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in Raqqa, killing six officers of the Asayish and the SDF.

The operation will be carried out in coordination with the US-led Global Coalition.

“A joint operations room has been formed, backed by International Coalition airpower,” the statement reads. It is set to be the first SDF-Coalition operation in Raqqa since US troops pulled out of the region in 2019.

The large-scale operations have already borne results that will be announced soon, according to the SDF media center.

In December 2022, the SDF launched Operation ‘Al-Jazeera Thunderbolt’ in the countryside of Hasakah and Qamishli to pursue ISIS sleeper cells.

Kurdish forces seize dozens of suspected IS members in Syria

bandidos faceless myrmidons in the area in retaliation for an attack by the turban group there last month, according to a statement.

Syrian Democratic Forces said they raided ``dozens of potential points and hideouts'' in the city Raqqa, formerly held by the Islamic State group, and the surrounding area, and arrested dozens of suspected IS members. The U.S.-led coalition forces provided air cover and drone surveillance during the operation, the statement added.

The operation was in response to an IS attack on Raqqa in late December that killed six members of the Kurdish-led forces. The SDF also announced formation of a ``joint operations room'' backed by the international coalition aimed at targeting IS cells.

The Kurdish-led forces in Syria regularly carry out joint anti-IS patrols with the U.S.-led coalition . The patrols were temporarily halted late last year when The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

s against Kurdish groups in Syria in retaliation for a deadly November explosion in Istanbul. Ankara blamed Kurdish groups for the attack, an allegation the groups deny.

The SDF said that according to its intelligence, IS ``is attempting to reorganize the terrorist cells and appointing new leaders`` as well as ``issuing instructions to move from individual to group terrorist attacks on the prisons`` holding IS members.

More than 42,400 imported muscle and some 23,200 Syrians accused of IS ties, and their families, are held in camps and prisons in northeastern Syria, according to a Human Rights Watch report last month. The report detailed dire conditions in the detention facilities and called for repatriation of the detained foreign nationals, most of them women and kiddies, by their countries.

Western countries have repatriated an increasing number of their citizens from northeastern Syria, including most recently La Belle France, which returned a group of 32 minors and 15 women on Tuesday.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Where the APU can strike after receiving the 'Leopards'
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] There are several scenarios according to which the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can develop.

Western countries launched the largest campaign for the supply of military equipment and weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the entire time of the conflict. The authorities of Finland, Norway, Poland, and Spain announced their intention to supply Ukraine with modern tanks. Germany and the United States are expected to join the coalition. NATO does not hide the fact that they plan to prepare the Ukrainian army for the start of a large-scale offensive operation. Where can the Armed Forces of Ukraine plan to strike?

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) will most likely use the tanks that Western countries plan to supply in the southern and Kupyansk directions, since there are the most favorable conditions for this, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the People's Militia of the LPR Andrei Marochko said on Wednesday on the TV channel "Star."
Wow. They retired Marochko. He was Lugansk's military spokesman beginning in 2016. I think the Ukrainian tactical commanders using the Leopards as designed is a far fetched assumption. The calculus changes once the tank is hit by solid shot or an RPG.
Kupyanskoye (north-west of the LPR - east of the Kharkov region) and the southern directions are distinguished by the fact that there “there is very good logistics, there are routes, there is where to hide this equipment," Marochko quoted TASS .

On the contrary, Western heavy armored vehicles are not suitable for military operations in the Avdievka area near Donetsk, since “not everything can be done so covertly in this particular direction,” the retired colonel said.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny had previously announced plans to launch an offensive. In an interview with The Economist, he said that in order to carry out an offensive operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, additional supplies of military equipment are needed, which the collective West promises to supply.

As a military expert, reserve colonel and editor-in-chief of the Anna News military analytical agency Anatoly Matviychuk noted in a commentary to REGNUM , the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently focused on replenishing their losses incurred during the autumn-winter battles. A possible offensive may not begin until mid-spring.

“The optimal time for the offensive, in principle, is the end of spring - the beginning of summer. Somewhere by this time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to restore the losses, just as the units that are now being trained in the UK, Poland and other countries will return to Ukraine. That is, the estimated date of such an offensive is the end of April - the beginning of May," the expert noted.

The range of supplies of Western weapons also speaks of the offensive nature of the upcoming operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The latest package of American military assistance included 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers with 20 LWMR (Light Weight Mine Roller) light roller mine trawls.

Mine rollers of this model are installed on Stryker ESV (Engineer Support Vehicle) engineering vehicles. Based on these facts, experts conclude that at least 20 armored personnel carriers, which are planned for delivery from the United States, may be engineering vehicles, whose task is to pave the way for infantry and tanks through minefields. This fact suggests that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their foreign advisers are planning an operation to break through the fortified front line.

In particular, we can talk about an attempt to break through in the Zaporozhye region, where powerful defensive structures are now being created.

"Why Zaporozhye? Because in the Kharkiv direction they, as it seems to them, ruled out the possibility of the region joining Russia. In the Kherson region, they occupied the regional center, and the offensive would require forcing a water barrier - the Dnieper. And in this direction, in Zaporozhye, in my opinion, the priority task for them is the capture of Melitopol," Matviychuk believes.

"The occupation of Melitopol, according to the Kyiv strategists, would allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to achieve a number of tasks to block the Crimea, the military expert notes. “They cut the land route from Russia, they take control of the supply of water to the peninsula. And, most importantly, they get conditional fire control over the Crimean bridge, because if they reach the coast of the Sea of Azov, they can fire at it with the help of missile systems supplied from the United States, and attack with drones," assumes Matviychuk.

According to the expert, there are several options by which such an offensive can develop.

The first one provides for the advancement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the settlement of Vasilyevka along the banks of the Dnieper to Energodar in order to take control of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant with a possible landing in the city.

The second option involves a breakthrough "short" to Melitopol through Tokmok.

The third scenario looks more ambitious, as it provides for a breakthrough through the Pologi towards Berdyansk in an attempt to cut off the Zaporozhye region from the DPR.

At the same time, according to the expert, the failure of the Ukrainian offensive will call into question further deliveries of military equipment from NATO.

“Because they have an acute question of the prestige of their technology. If we burn it while trying to attack, their reputation will be seriously damaged. The United States especially promotes its weapons to world markets, it is very important for them to have a good image. So they are now putting everything on the line. And it is extremely important that they fail. Because if they prepare a second such offensive, it will not be very soon, and failure will seriously reduce their confidence in their abilities," summarizes Matviychuk.

WHAT SUPPLIES IS KYIV NOW COUNTING ON?
On Tuesday , The Wall Street Journal reported that the US administration is leaning in favor of transferring a significant number of American M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.

As the newspaper notes, this step by Washington will become part of an agreement with Germany - it provides for the allocation of a small number of German Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, as well as Berlin's consent to the supply of German-made tanks by Poland and other countries.

Following the WSJ, Politico , citing representatives of the White House, reported that the United States could send Ukraine at least 30 Abrams tanks as military assistance. Military equipment will be purchased, not allocated from existing stocks. US President Joe Biden could announce such a decision as early as Wednesday, Politico announces. The fact that Biden is ready to report on the supply of Abrams was also reported by Al Jazeera.

This information appeared simultaneously with reports from several NATO countries (and alliance candidate states) about their readiness to transfer modern tanks to Kyiv. So, on Tuesday, January 24, Finnish President Sauli Niiniste visited Kiev , who proposed to transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine part of the Leopard tanks at the disposal of the Finnish army. At the same time, Niiniste stressed that for real assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is necessary to form a large “tank coalition”.

The Spanish authorities are thinking about the desire to join such a coalition. According to El Pais, Madrid is considering the transfer of Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are in storage with the Spanish army. The publication notes that we can talk about the transfer of about a hundred cars.

The Lisbon newspaper Correio da Manhã writes that the Portuguese authorities are also ready to join the coalition, which can allocate up to four tanks out of 47 in service for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Norway is ready to provide eight more Leopard 2A4NO tanks, according to Dagens Næringsliv .

The decisive word in this matter belongs to the German authorities, who, according to Der Spiegel, also intend to join the supply after lengthy disputes in the country's government. According to the publication, one company (14 vehicles) of Leopard 2A6 tanks will be transferred as part of the first batch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As REGNUM reported earlier, German-made tanks have a number of technical advantages that make them a serious enemy on the battlefield. According to military expert Alexander Mikhailovsky, the supply of modern armored vehicles is taking place as part of the preparations for the alleged offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Recall that earlier NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced new offensive operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine this spring. According to him, hundreds of armored vehicles that will be delivered to Ukraine will allow Kyiv "not only to defend itself, but also to launch its own offensive in order to recapture the territories."

North Korea locks down capital over 'respiratory illness'
[GEO.TV] North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
has ordered a five-day lockdown in the capital over "respiratory illness", a report said on Wednesday, in what appears to be the first citywide restrictions since the country declared victory over Covid-19 in August 2022.

Residents of Pyongyang have been ordered to stay in their homes from Wednesday to Sunday and must submit to multiple temperature checks each day, Seoul-based specialist site NK News reported, citing a government notice.

The notice did not mention Covid but said that the illnesses currently spreading in the capital included the common cold, the report said.

The government order comes a day after NK News, citing sources in Pyongyang, reported that people in the city appeared to be stocking up on goods in anticipation of a lockdown.

It is unclear if other areas have imposed similar lockdowns and state media has not announced any new measures.

Experts suggested that North Korea's largest city is likely dealing with the re-emergence of Covid.

"Covid is disappearing and reappearing depending on the temperature, not just in North Korea but around the world," said Go Myong-Hyun, a researcher at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies.

The Korean peninsula is currently in the grip of what weather forecasters have described as a Siberian cold snap, with temperatures in Pyongyang dropping as low as minus 22 degrees Celsius (-7.6 Fahrenheit).

"It was quite premature for North Korea to celebrate its victory over the virus... with the drop in temperature, Covid has re-emerged," Go told AFP.

"North Korea must have prepared for it to some extent, but it seems that the virus reappeared a little sooner than they thought."
China trade

North Korea's neighbour and key trading partner China recently abandoned its zero-Covid policies and battled a wave of infections that overwhelmed hospitals and crematoriums.

North Korea has maintained a rigid blockade since the start of the pandemic but does allow some trade with China.

In May last year, North Korea officially acknowledged its first Covid outbreak but declared victory over the virus just three months later, calling it a "miracle".

Experts, including the World Health Organisation
...Kind of like the Center for Disease Control only run by the UN, with about the results you'd expectt...
, have long questioned Pyongyang's Covid statistics and claims to have brought the outbreak under control.

North Korea has one of the world's worst healthcare systems, with poorly equipped hospitals, few intensive care units and no Covid treatment drugs, experts say.

It is not believed to have vaccinated any of its 25 million people, although reports indicate it may have received some vaccines from China.

#1  If it's an "ordered lock-down" did they do it for the same reasons as China's?
China's appeared to be that too many old party officials had multiple organ transplants so masks and vaccinations had nothing to offer as protection to the immunology-suppressed CCP transplant sub-grouping.

US to supply Abrams tanks to Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] The United States officially announced the delivery of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, as well as 8 recovery vehicles. All this will be formed into a tank battalion and they plan to use the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the counteroffensive during the spring-summer campaign. Among the declared goals is the capture of the Crimea.

Somewhat earlier, the German Foreign Minister stated that Europe is at war with Russia.

The probability that there will be no new wave of mobilization in the country is somewhere around zero. The stakes continue to rise, and the likelihood of an expected remake of the Caribbean Crisis increases.

Against this background, good news comes from the front - our marines have broken through the front near Ugledar and are already fighting in the city itself. The 72nd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could not withstand the blow and rolled.

#2  So basically
WE THE US Taxpayers are funding the Ukraine war and selling them the US Military Industrial Complex weaponry,

Which they are buying using US TAXPAYER $$$$$.

Doesn't this sound like a $$$$ laundering scheme?
Where, certain people are becoming $$$$ rich filling their pockets by shuffling $$$$ around, as the USA goes deeper & deeper in debt ?

#7  The Abrams will come out of mothball storage and will most likely be the M1A1 or the M1A2. The US still lists part of it as Top Secret, so parts will have to be stripped off and sanitized for export. On top of that headache, they will have to build out infrastructure for the repair of the tanks in Ukraine as the turbine engine is so different than the diesel the Leopard and Russian tanks use. On top of that Ukrainian mechanics will need to be trained to service the tank as well as new tankers will be trained on a tank that is so much different than their old Soviet ones it will be like a fighter pilot learning to fly a UFO.

So at the earliest we could see Abrams at the front in fall. Leopards will be there sooner as the support and supply network is already in place in Poland and is easy to build slightly forward to Ukraine.

#9  Russian troops are already pretty demoralized.

When spring comes and they see a big tank coming through the mud, it will be difficult to keep them from a panic retreat.

#12  Cripes; seriously?

*technical question - would it not be more expedient to do M-60s? Or have they all been dismantled?

#13  more expedient to do M-60s

M-60s have the 105mm main gun and can't upgrade as the turret is too small. In addition to that its armor isn't up to going toe to toe with more modern tanks. Really isn't worth the effort. Especially with nearly 3,000 Abrams in storage for the US. Cheaper for us to do some PMS, strip off the stuff we don't want falling into the wrong hands and sending them overseas rather than scrapping them.

#14  Just seem to remember them holding their own in Desert Storm. Latest Iraqi armor at the time IIRC was T-72?

That was a while back though; upgrades since then probably greater than upgrades to the 60.

For the record, I think this is all a bad idea, but I agree just getting Abrams within shooting distance is going to be a nightmare. Was thinking of something closer to the locals' experience and maybe easier to maintain than the specialized parts of an Abrams.

Obviously Ukraine is not desert, and does nobody good if a 60 is easily whallopped by current weapons and platforms. Not happy about the Bradleys either as it seems IFVs on both sides are really taking it and has similar logistic/training bottlenecks.

Problem is decisions being made by people who think farming is making a little hole, putting a seed in it, and adding some water from time to time.

#16  Not so sure DU armor is not exportable. The M1A2 SEPv3 the Poles ordered look like they have DU armor an well as getting the latest version of the M829 DU ammunition.

Either way, I hope the transferred M1s will have ERA added on (TUSK kit). This war isn't Iraq firing steel penetrators and crappy Saggers

#17  Not so sure DU armor is not exportable.

Dunno if it is DU, but the Chobham armor is still very top secret. The export version of the M1 is rolled composite steel. The Saudi version isn't as good as the American one armor wise. Ukraine will get the real fucking deal from our mothballed stock.

The T-72 Iraqi version was definitely a downgrade like the Abrams to Saudi. The full M1 ran ramped over that version. Kinda like the T-90 in Syria got rolled by 2nd generation western anti-tank weapons.

[Guardian] Investigation into Verra carbon standard finds most are ‘phantom credits’ and may worsen global heating.
Thus their readers are made to understand that the things they do to help this imaginary problem would actually be making it worse if it were a real problem. And so the Guardian’s smugly Progressive readers find themselves in a cleft stick: do they accept that there is no problem, and stop wasting the nation’s money and effort trying to fix it, or do they insist there is too a real problem, and stop wasting money and effort making it worse? As for me, I intend to be charmed as I watch their efforts to reconcile the thing.

Children At Hawl Camp Swear Allegiance To ISIS New Leader

A footage was circulated on Telegram of masked children, said to be in the Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria, swearing allegiance to the new leader of the Islamic State (ISIS).

The 90 second-long footage shows three children, whose age is estimated at 12, pledging allegiance to “Sheikh of Mujahideen” Abu al-Hassan al-Husseini,
...in our archives as Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurayshi, he ascended to the very shaky ISIS throne November 30th of last year, following the death of previous Number 1 al-Hassan al-Hashimi....
ISIS new leader.

The Hawl Camp, some 45 km to the east of the city of Hasakah, remains a hotbed for ISIS’ extremist ideology. Last year, 36 murders were reported in the camp.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has repeatedly called on countries to repatriate their nationals held at the camp.

Children make up nearly 65 percent of the camp’s population, estimated at more than 50.000, representing different nationalities.

US Female Fighter Gets 3 Years In Prison For Supporting Syrian Terrorist

In addition, Bell was sentenced to five years of supervised release, according to the release.

Bell sent about $3.150 via Western Union to her lover, who was a bad boy of HTS, according to a complaint in US District Court.

Lebanon's prosecutor general has ordered the release of all suspects detained in connection with the deadly 2020 Beirut port blast
[TWITTER]

Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
’s top public prosecutor on Wednesday charged the Beirut port blast investigating judge and ordered the release of those detained in connection with the earth-shattering kaboom, after rejecting the judge’s surprise resumption of the probe.

The moves by Ghassan Oweidat signal escalating opposition by Lebanon’s ruling establishment to efforts by Judge Tarek Bitar to reopen the probe into the August 4, 2020, blast that killed more than 220 people.

In a text message exchange with Rooters, Oweidat said he had summoned Bitar for questioning but did not specify whether he had charged him. Bitar said he had been charged but did not give details.

A judicial source had earlier said Oweidat had filed charges against Bitar over alleged wrongdoing in his handling of the probe.

Bitar on Monday unexpectedly resumed his investigation into the earth-shattering kaboom after high-level political interference and legal complaints had paralyzed the probe for more than a year.

He also charged top current and former officials including Oweidat without specifying the charges against the top prosecutor.

Bitar said on Wednesday he would continue his probe despite mounting resistance. He told Rooters he would "continue until I issue an indictment" and said that Oweidat "had no right" to file the charge or release detainees.

For Lebanese desperate to see accountability over the earth-shattering kaboom, Bitar symbolizes hope that justice may one day be served in a country where impunity has long been the norm.

Oweidat on Tuesday sent a letter to Bitar saying his probe remained suspended and on Wednesday issued a decision, a copy of which was seen by Rooters, saying the judge did not have the
authority to resume his investigation.

In the same decision, Oweidat released all those detained in connection with the probe "without exception" but said they would face a travel ban.

At least 17 people, mostly low- to mid-level officials, were tossed into the calaboose since 2020 in relation to the case, said Amnesia Amnesty International, in conditions it said could violate their due process rights.

Badri Daher, who headed the customs authority at the time of the blast and was the most bigwig detained following the earth-shattering kaboom, was freed on Wednesday, Daher’s sister told Rooters.

The explosion, one of the largest non-nuclear blasts on record, was caused by hundreds of tonnes of ammonium nitrate unloaded at the port in 2013.

To many Lebanese, the disaster symbolized the wider corruption and mismanagement of a ruling elite that had also steered Lebanon into a devastating financial collapse.
