TikTok Must be Banned in US and Free World
[Gatestone] Chinese law requires all Chinese companies to turn over information to the Communist Party upon request -- and ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, reportedly employs more than 130 Party members to ensure compliance. In December, it was revealed that ByteDance had used TikTok to surveil several journalists to track down the journalists' sources.

The United States recently banned TikTok from all federal government devices over growing security concerns. That is a good start.

TikTok, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned at the beginning of December, is controlled by the Chinese government, which is a national security concern.

TikTok, a video-sharing app owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has, according to TikTok's own estimates, 1 billion users worldwide. In 2021, TikTok had approximately 87 million users in the US, according to Statista. Disturbingly, a recent study found that 10% of US adults get their news from the Chinese app, up from 3% in 2020.

Wray said that China's government can control the app's recommendation algorithm, "which allows them to manipulate content, and if they want to, to use it for influence operations."

"All of these things are in the hands of a government that doesn't share our values, and that has a mission that's very much at odds with what's in the best interests of the United States. That should concern us," Wray said in a speech at the University of Michigan.

Wray's comments echoed those he made at the "Worldwide Threats to the Homeland" hearing held at the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee on November 15.

CIA director made a secret visit to Ukraine to meet Zelenskyy and pledge deeper US support, CNN says
[Insider] CIA director William J. Burns made a secret visit to Ukraine to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and pledge deeper US support, CNN reported Wednesday, citing two sources familiar with the trip.

Burns traveled to Kyiv earlier this month, CNN said. His trips are usually kept secret, The New York Times reported.

"While there, he reinforced the US commitment to provide support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, including continued intelligence sharing," said on official to CNN, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

It is unclear how many trips Burns has made to Ukraine since the start of Russia's invasion in February. However, he also flew to Kyiv immediately before the invasion, according to The Times.

The report came after US officials have become increasingly worried that President Vladimir Putin could use a "dirty bomb" to escalate the war as Russia continues to suffer setbacks in Ukraine.

A "dirty bomb" is a type of explosive that uses conventional explosives to spread radioactive material.

But Burns told CBS News last month that the intelligence community has not seen "any practical evidence" that there is an "imminent threat."

US intelligence has extensively helped Ukraine oppose Russia, including in its counteroffensive in the northeastern Kharkiv region last month, The Hill reported.

Rule of Law V2.0
[OTP] Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee, who represents one of the most racially gerrymandered districts in the entire country, has introduced legislation to Congress that would end free speech for white people in the United States, creating a new type of speech-based federal "hate crime" that only white people can be charged with.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s "Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023" which, as the name suggests, would only be enforced against white people, makes it illegal for white people to question open-borders immigration, advocate for preserving America’s culture and traditional demographic make-up, or even criticize minorities.

#1  These morons need to realize at some point they will get their wish and white people will stop talking to them. And it's at that point the killing is going to start. When you start publicly silencing someone for their race and political beliefs, you are backing them into a corner. And some will decide they won't wait for people to get loaded on the boxcars before they start 'educating' the woke on their mistake.

I'm not advocating violence, I'm warning against pushing people so far that they feel it's the only option.

Chicago schools audit reports widespread fraud with free lunch program
[JustTheNews] Report cites multiple instances where officials fraudulently underreported their income and received SNAP benefits.

The Chicago Public School District is faced with “persistent and widespread fraud” by highly-paid employees taking advantage of food stamp and state-subsidized health care benefits by underreporting their income, according to a 2022 annual report from the district’s Office of Inspector General.

The report provides multiple instances where CPS staff fraudulently underreported their income and received SNAP benefits while making their children eligible for free-and-reduced lunches at their schools. The examples cited in the report occurred from 2016 through 2020.

The school district stated that it has participated in a federal program for more than a decade that provides free lunches to all enrolled students, regardless of their family's income.

The Inspector General report states that the eligibility of students for free-and-reduced lunches is important because it is "also the determination of other important funding streams for CPS."

The report gave an example of one elementary school principal’s ex-husband, who reported only his “significantly smaller salary” on their children’s CPS Family Income Information Forms, despite not living in the residence with either the principal or the children.

“The principal told the OIG that her ex-husband completed the forms because he made less money, demonstrating that she was aware of and even condoned her omission from the forms and failed to correct them before they were submitted,” the report stated.

This fraud improperly qualified their children for the free or reduced-price meals program.

In another example, a former elementary school teacher fraudulently obtained state welfare benefits for her children, falsely claiming her employment with CPS had ended. This made her children eligible for the meals.

While the Office of the Inspector General detailed these and other specific instances of FRM fraud, it also raised concerns about schools potentially receiving more money both from its district and the federal government based on inflated free or reduced-price meal program numbers.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education’s Report Card, 77% of all CPS students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

The report provides information on many different investigations and allegations of fraud reported to the Board of Education in fiscal year 2022, which ran from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.

“In Fiscal Year 2022, the OIG received 1,825 complaints alleging misconduct, waste, fraud and financial mismanagement at Chicago Public Schools,” the report details.

The OIG opened investigations into 725 of those 1,825 cases, which is 39.7%.

Chicago Public Schools has released a statement about the report.

It read: "Chicago Public Schools (CPS) greatly values our partnership with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and we support the work to investigate all issues of misconduct among our 40,000 team members. As a District, we take seriously our responsibility to serve our families with integrity and to address individuals who breach CPS policies and the public’s trust and hold them accountable. CPS will continue to ensure our District policies and procedures support the highest ethical standards to ensure our valued team members act in the best interest of our students."

Massive Baltic Gas Pipeline Explosion Blamed on Malfunction
[Breitbart] A powerful gas pipeline explosion that prompted the evacuation of a village in northern Lithuania was most likely caused by a technical malfunction, the head of the country’s natural gas transmission system said Saturday.

The blast Friday evening sent flames 50 meters (about 150 feet) into the sky. No casualties were reported but about 250 people were evacuated from the nearby village of Valakeliai as a precaution. The fire was extinguished by midnight and the residents returned to their homes on Saturday as repair work began on the damaged pipeline.

“One of the (possible causes) is that the explosion was a result of the defects in the welding seam of the pipeline, but the investigation will provide all answers within several days,” said Nemunas Biknius, the head of AB Amber Grid, which operates Lithuania’s natural gas transmission system. “I don’t think it’s some kind of intentional activity; I think it’s an accident.”

The pipeline carries gas from Lithuania’s Baltic port of Klaipeda to neighbouring Latvia. An adjacent pipeline was not damaged and continued to supply gas to consumers in the area, AB Amber Grid said.

Lithuania completely cut off Russian gas imports in April 2022 in response to the invasion of Ukraine. The Baltic country imports gas from multiple countries through the Klaipeda Liquid Natural Gas terminal built a decade ago. The terminal satisfies all Lithuania’s natural gas needs and allows deliveries to neighbouring countries.

Canadian Govt Minister Demands Even More Migration After Record Year of Arrivals
Hey, New York!
[Breitbart] Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, a member of the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has called for even more immigration to Canada despite 2022 seeing a record influx.

Minister Fraser asserted this week that Canada required even more migrants due to a combination of shortages in the labour market and Canada’s low birth rates, claiming schools and hospitals may be in jeopardy in the future.

“If we don’t continue to increase our immigration ambition and bring more working-age population and young families into this country, our questions will not be about labour shortages, generations from now,” Minister Fraser said, broadcaster CBC reports.

Mr Fraser’s call for even more immigration comes after Canada saw a record 431,645 people become permanent residents last year.

The Trudeau government has promised to bring in as many as 1.5 million more migrants over the next three years, or 500,000 per year.

Trudeau’s goals are almost unprecedented among Western countries and equal migration numbers eight times larger per capita than the United Kingdom and four times larger per capita than the United States.

Fraser cited Canada’s demographic situation as a reason for more migration, as Canada’s birthrate sits at just 1.4 children per woman, according to Statistics Canada — well below the 2.1 children per woman replacement rate.

Low birth rates have been used by many other governments in the west to justify high levels of mass migration, including Germany, where last year the number of people with migration backgrounds represented over a quarter of the population.

Last year, German Economy and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck made the same argument as Minister Fraser on the subject of labour shortages, stating that Germany also needed to increase migration to fill labour shortages.

Critics of this stance have long argued that it is essentially a pyramid scheme, however, as migrants also age — meaning immigration would have to be increased exponentially on a permanent basis in order to serve as a “solution” to the alleged problem of ageing populations.

Andrew Griffith, previously a senior official at Immigration and Citizenship Canada, noted that mass migration will likely have an effect on social services and housing, saying: “There’s no assessment that I have seen of the impact of these targets on housing affordability and availability, no assessment of these targets in terms of additional pressures on health care.”

Last year, Statistics Canada revealed that as nearly a quarter of the Canadian population were born abroad, and that this number would increase to a third of the population by 2041.

Paris Mass Stabber Identified as Algerian, Had Multiple Identities, Criminal Record, Deportation Order
[Breitbart] But TOTALLY not Islamo-terrorism, you bigot! Totally!
The Paris prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation Sunday into “attempted murders” after seven people were injured with a sharp metallic hook
..definitely not a knife, then...
at a crowded Paris train station on Wednesday.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement that her office asked for the man suspected in the attack to be detained pending further investigation. He was shot and wounded by police during the attack at the Gare du Nord train station, authorities have said.

Although six victims, including a police officer, were immediately located, a seventh injured person, a 53-year-old man who left the scene, has since been found, according to the prosecutor’s statement.

Beccuau said the identity of the assailant remained to be formally established.
He was previously named by the authorities as Mohammed Amine M., though they said it probably wasn’t his real name.
Investigators said he presents himself as a 31-year-old Algerian national and was known to French authorities under several identities for home invasion, theft and rebellion in 2019 and 2021, Sunday’s statement said.

He received orders to leave French territory in 2020 and in September of last year, the statement detailed.

A preliminary investigation found that the suspect threw himself upon a man in front of the train station, stabbing him about 20 times, with no apparent reason. The assailant then entered the station and attacked other civilians and a police officer. Screams alerted two other police officers who intervened.

Beccuau said the judicial investigation would seek to clarify the alleged assailant’s exact actions, motives and personality.

Border Chief Mayorkas: We Are Doing What ‘Needs to Be Done' to Stop the Drug Trade
[Breitbart] “We are doing that which needs to be done” to counter cartel-delivered fentanyl and other drugs that killed more than 100,000 Americans in 2021, President Joe Biden’s homeland security chief told the Washington Post.

Cartels gain wealth from smuggling people to Mayorkas’ welcome, and they also use the flood of migrants to divert agency resources from border surveillance.
The complacent statement by Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas came days after the federal government reported on January 1 that drug overdose deaths likely hit 107,477 deaths in the 12 months leading up to August 2022. That is up 3.3 percent from the 102,612 deaths reported in August 2021 for the 12 months prior.

Mayorkas touted his policies in a January 4 interview, saying, “We have an across-the-board, full-press, doubling-down effort on this very dangerous [fentanyl] drug.”

Government Corruption
Biden Admin Fails to Comply with Classified Doc Probe After Vowing ‘Highest Standards of Transparency'
[Breitbart] The Biden administration has failed to comply with the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into President Joe Biden’s mishandling of top secret documents after promising the “highest standards of transparency” in United States history.

In a letter issued by the president on February 4, 2021, Biden vowed the highest standards of transparency would be “revitalized” and implemented within his administration.

“In a democracy, the public deserves as much transparency as possible regarding the work of our national security institutions, consistent with legitimate needs to protect sources and methods and sensitive foreign relationships,” Biden’s letter stated.

“The revitalization of our national security and foreign policy workforce requires a recommitment to the highest standards of transparency,” the president wrote.

But Biden has failed to live up to his promised standard.

On Wednesday, Rep. James Comer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee, requested the National Archives disclose “all documents and communications between or among the White House and the Department of Justice or NARA [National Archives and Records Administration] regarding the documents retrieved from President Biden’s personal office at the Penn Biden Center.”

The National Archives has apparently not complied. Comer told Fox News on Saturday the National Archives is stonewalling the Oversight Committee’s investigation.

“I have jurisdiction over the national archives. This agency is supposed to do a briefing anytime something like this happens. They have not,” Comer said. “Not only have they not given us a briefing, even though we’ve requested one, they have not answered any of our simple requests for information.”

Meanwhile, there appears to be a blame game brewing within the Biden administration about who is responsible for the mishandling of classified documents — some of which are top secret.

A report by CNN revealed Biden administration officials are blaming the National Archives for refusing to treat then-Vice President Biden’s records with the “same high regard” as it did former President Obama’s records.

“While the National Archives sends staff members to the White House to gather files and papers of the President, they do not treat all vice presidential papers with the same high regard, officials said,” CNN reported, citing “former and current administration officials and others familiar with the process.”

Law enforcement has reportedly begun interviewing individuals responsible for the violation. According to NBC News, Joe Biden’s former executive assistant Kathy Chung, hired to the post after a recommendation from Hunter Biden, was questioned by law enforcement over the classified documents stashed in three separate locations. Chung’s employment as Joe Biden’s assistant was in part due to Hunter Biden, who recommended his father hire her, according to Hunter’s laptop emails.

Hunter and Chung remained in close contact over the course of Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president. Their correspondence included arranging Biden family business meetings with former University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, who oversaw the Biden Penn Center.

While the White House appears to be trying to deflect blame, former Department of Justice prosecutor Andrew McCarthy argued Thursday that Biden has already admitted guilt. Biden has claimed no knowledge of the violation.

“That’s not a defense to a charge of mishandling classified information,” McCarthy stated. It is tantamount to an admission of guilt.”

“For conviction, federal law requires prosecutors to establish that the defendant was grossly negligent. There is no need to prove that an accused was trying to harm the United States; just that he was trusted with classified information and carelessly flouted the standards for safeguarding it,” McCarthy said.

Destroying American Democracy - An Inside Job
[Gatestone] Over the last few years, there has been much written about the destruction of American democracy. Frequently the threat has been of alleged interference in U.S. elections by Russia, China or other state actors. Government agencies, the name of election integrity, were assigned to identify and disrupt these foreign intrusions. As more and more information is revealed about these agencies, it seems that America's Intelligence Community participated in these activities domestically, and in a way that poses a grave threat to both election integrity and American democracy.

Just last week it was revealed that the FBI again withheld pertinent information from the American public, for past two months, until after the November 8, 2022 federal election. As with the Bureau's reported cover-up of evidence influence-peddling reportedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop, agents knew, since November 2, 2022, about at least some of the three sets of classified material that illegally found their way into the garage and library of President Joe Biden and into the Penn Biden Center think tank at the University of Pennsylvania -- to which anonymous members of the Chinese Communist Party have donated $54.6 million.

Their existence only became known this week, after the newly elected Republican-majority House of Representatives announced that it would hold hearings on "how the [Justice] department handled investigations into classified materials found at former President Donald Trump's Florida home and those found at President Joe Biden's office in a Washington think tank bearing his name and his Delaware home..."

In addition, the recent release of the "Twitter Files" has raised at least two major concerns regarding actions by the Intelligence Community. The first is that the wall of separation between the Intelligence Community and the U.S. media has not only sprung a leak, it has totally collapsed. The report that officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) met weekly with Twitter executives to coordinate information is totally inappropriate. Would officials from the ODNI review, affirm or label certain sets of information as false? When ODNI was created, no one intended its officials to have a role in these types of discussions.

It also appears that intelligence officials in recent years have politically weaponized intelligence. The combination of a politically weaponized Intelligence Community, operating hand-in-hand with organizations that are the main gateways for information to millions of Americans, poses a serious threat to American democracy and the integrity of our elections.

Let us just briefly look at the steep slope of lying, deceit and corruption that has seeped into the leadership of the U.S. Intelligence Community.

Why Was Hunter Paying Joe Biden $50k Per Month To Rent House Where Classified Documents Found?
[ZERO] "The now-52-year-old began listing the Wilmington home as his address following his 2017 divorce from ex-wife Kathleen Buhle — even falsely claiming he owned the property on a July 2018 background check form as part of a rental application," the Post reported.

Of note, this is the same house where classified documents were found.

Yet, upon closer inspection, Hunter lists the "Monthly Rent" as $49,910 - or roughly $550,000 for the 11 months he indicated he lived there?

What’s life like under Hamas? ‘Whispered in Gaza’ offers unique, courageous testimony

This article, the first in a series of three, presents eight short, animated interviews with residents of the Gazoo

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Strip.

Produced by the Center for Peace Communications, a New York nonprofit, they are being published by The Times of Israel because they represent a rare opportunity for ordinary, courageous Gazooks to tell the world what life is like under the rule of Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,.

The Times of Israel’s French site is carrying a French edition of the clips. An Arabic-language edition is being presented on alarabiya.net, a Persian edition via the newspaper Kayhan, a Spanish edition on Infobae, and a Portuguese edition on RecordTV.

The short clips — none of them longer than two and a half minutes — offer poignant insights into day-to-day life in the Strip, an area that most outsiders cannot reach and whose residents directly suffer from the consequent lack of understanding.

We meet ordinary people telling authentic stories about common problems that are drastically exacerbated by Hamas’s control, ordinary people with expectations and aspirations and dreams — from running a pharmacy to working as a journalist to simply dancing — that they are forbidden from realizing.

All names have been changed, and CPC employed animation and voice-altering technology to protect speakers’ identity.

The participants consented to be interviewed for the sake of relaying their ideas and experiences to an international audience, noted CPC president Joseph Braude, adding, "They want these stories to be heard."

You can watch the entire first week’s playlist of eight videos here:

Introducing ‘Whispered in Gaza’ — 25 short, animated interviews on life under Hamas

[IsraelTimes] The US-based Center for Peace Communications reached out to residents of the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-run Strip who have personal stories they want the world to hear

"I want Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. to be liberated from the government of Hamas," says "Maryam," a lifelong resident of the coastal strip that Hamas has ruled since 2007. "Then, Gaza will develop. We’ll have tourists and theater."

Maryam is telling her story — a tale of growing up singing and dancing, until Hamas seized power — in a short, animated clip. It is part of "Whispered in Gaza," a series of 25 videos produced by the Center for Peace Communications, a New York nonprofit.

The series is being presented in three parts, in English and French, by The Times of Israel in partnership with CPC, alongside an Arabic-language edition of the clips presented on alarabiya.net, a Persian edition via the newspaper Kayhan, a Spanish edition on Infobae, and a Portuguese edition on RecordTV.

All interviews were conducted over the course of 2022.

The Paleostinian speakers, all of whom currently reside in Gaza, describe arbitrary arrests, extortion, and violence by Hamas authorities. Some express longing for the time before Hamas seized power in a coup against the Paleostinian Authority in 2007, when they were freer to express themselves and pursue a life path they chose. (The PA held partial authority in Gaza from 1994 under the Oslo Accords. Israel maintained overall control of the Strip until 2005, when it dismantled its 21 settlements there, evicted their 9,000 Israeli Jewish residents, and withdrew unilaterally to pre-1967 lines.)

According to CPC president Joseph Braude, the series "challenges those who justify Hamas violence to choose between supporting Hamas and supporting the Paleostinians it oppresses. At the same time, it challenges those opposing Hamas to recognize that countless Gazooks want a brighter and more peaceful future, and ask what can be done to empower them."

"Do I believe in peace with Hamas?" asks "Basma," another Gazook woman, in a second clip in response to a question. "No. There can’t be peace with them."

The CPC interviewer laughs and clarifies that she was asking about peace with Israel, a possibility to which the woman proves more open.

"Much has been said about the impact of Israeli policies and actions on the civilian population in Gaza, and rightly so," observed Ghaith al-Omari, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. "Yet the conduct of Hamas, the de facto rulers of the Strip — who have created an oppressive, stifling reality for the majority of Gazooks — has received much less attention. ’Whispered in Gaza’ is a commendable effort to provide ordinary people in Gaza a platform to communicate with an international audience."

CPC promotes Arab-Israeli engagement to foster development in the Middle East, according to senior US diplomat Dennis Ross, who chairs its board.

In 2021, over 300 Iraqis from across the country gathered at a CPC conference in the northern city of Erbil, where speakers called for Iraq to join the Abraham Accords. The CPC-backed Arab Council for Regional Integration has held public conferences in which Arab thinkers advocate relations with the Israeli people. Other CPC projects protect peace activist muppets from retribution and seed Arab-Israeli partnerships.

CPC found Gazooks eager to tell the world about their suffering under Hamas. Many already express themselves on social media, Braude noted, but face Hamas pressure to remove their posts.

One interviewee says he filmed Hamas police beating women and a child with Down syndrome for protesting the cut-off of their electricity. Hours after he uploaded the video, thousands of frustrated Gazooks had reached out to him. He was on the run from Hamas for days until he was arrested and forced to take down the video.

"I now understand that their jails are full of honorable people," he says. "Anyone who tries to think for himself winds up there."

CPC employed animation and voice-altering technology to protect speakers’ identity. The participants consented to be interviewed for the sake of relaying their ideas and experiences to an international audience, Braude said, adding, "They want these stories to be heard."

The Times of Israel viewed the original footage as used in the animated clips, confirming the speakers’ identity and that their testimony has been accurately translated. Said Braude: "An artistic depiction of the story a voice tells can provide a visceral experience of someone’s life that is hard to forget."

Attempts to gauge Gazook public opinion through polling tend to yield inconsistent results. Regarding Israel, a 2022 survey by The Washington Institute found most Gazooks simultaneously favoring "a permanent two-state solution" based on pre-1967 borders and "reclaiming all of Paleostine, from the river to the sea." Part of the challenge relates to the 2021 finding by Paleostinian pollsters that 62 percent of Gazooks say they cannot criticize Hamas without fear. (A speaker in one clip observes, "If you say, ’I don’t want war,’ you’re branded a traitor.")

In 2019, approximately 1,000 Gazooks waged anti-Hamas street demonstrations under the banner "We Want to Live," braving gunfire and prison.

Clips in which interviewees describe their aspirations include calls for international support for Hamas’s opponents as well as dialogue with Israelis. Braude said the series aims not to advance a particular policy but, rather, to help Gazooks join the global conversation.

Jawad Anani, a former Jordanian foreign minister and Jordan-Israel peace negotiator, viewed the material before its release. In an accompanying monograph published Monday, he dubs it a step toward "peace and prosperity" in Gaza: "Our shared hope for such a future is why it was right and proper for this effort to turn the spotlight on the tragic situation of parents and their children in Gaza. It can help catalyze a new dynamic, moving beyond the present dismal, dead-end reality by fostering constructive dialogue."

Man arrested after uranium found at UK’s Heathrow Airport
[Dawn] A man, in his 60s, has been arrested in connection with an investigation linked to the discovery of traces of uranium found in a cargo package at London’s Heathrow Airport, the UK Metropolitan Police said on Sunday.

The man was arrested on suspicion of a terror offence on Saturday and was released on bail as part of the investigation, the police added.

A very small quantity of uranium was detected in a package that arrived at Heathrow Airport on Dec 29.

Richard Smith, head of London Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command, said that despite the arrest, the incident does “not appear to be linked to any direct threat to the public”.

Officers attended an address in Cheshire and took the man to a police station in north west England. He was later released on bail until a date in April.

Uranium can be used for civilian power generation and scientific purposes and is a key ingredient in nuclear weapons. Certain isotopes emit radiation that can be harmful to humans, and the metal itself is toxic if ingested or inhaled.

50 women abducted in Burkina Faso
[Dawn] Suspected bandidos snuffies kidnapped roughly 60 women in insurgency-wracked northern Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, local officials and residents said on Sunday.

Roughly 40 were seized 10 kilometres southeast of Arbinda on Thursday and about 20 others were kidnapped on Friday to the north of the town, the sources said.

Several managed to escape and return to their villages to raise the alarm, they said.

The landlocked West African country is one of the poorest and most volatile nations in the world.

Since 2015, it has been grappling with an insurgency led by bandidos snuffies affiliated with Al Qaeda
...that would be JNIM...
and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, that has killed tens of thousands and displaced around two million people.

"The women got together to go and gather leaves and wild fruits in the bush because there is nothing left to eat," said one resident, adding that they had left with their carts on Thursday.

"When they didn’t come back, we thought that their carts had had a problem. But three survivors came back to tell us what happened," said another resident.

The same person said about 20 women, who had not known about the first abduction, were subsequently taken the next day, eight kilometres north of Arbinda.

"In both groups, some women managed to escape and returned to the village on foot," the resident added. "We believe that the kidnappers took them to their bases."

HUMANITARIAN DISASTER
According to local officials who confirmed the abductions, the army and its civilian auxiliaries have carried out unsuccessful sweeps of the area.

Arbinda is in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
of northern Burkina Faso, an area under blockade by murderous Moslem groups and with limited food supplies.

The town and surrounding areas are regularly beset by murderous Moslem attacks which often target civilians.

In Aug 2021 80 people, including 65 civilians, were killed in an attack on a convoy taking them to Arbinda.

In December 2019, 35 civilians were among a group of 42 people who died in an attack on the town itself.

In many parts of Burkina, crops can no longer be cultivated because of the conflict.

The population of Arbinda is heavily dependent on outside food supplies.

In November, Idrissa Badini, a civil society front man, raised alarm about the situation in Arbinda: "The population, which has used up its reserves, is on the verge of a humanitarian disaster," he said.

The United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
says nearly one million people are living in blockaded areas in the north and east.

Disgruntled army officers carried out two coups last year in a show of anger at failure to roll back the insurgency.

Southeast Asia
Eight communist guerrilla leaders surrender to Philippine authorities
[BenarNews] Philippine authorities on Friday said that eight senior communist guerrilla leaders had surrendered recently to the military’s eastern Mindanao Command, weeks after the death of rebellion founder Jose Maria Sison.

Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. did not say when the "ranking leaders" of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered, only that they gave up because life in the guerrilla camps in the hinterlands had become difficult. The NPA is the guerrilla wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

"They are commanding officers [of the NPA] and they have a long involvement with the movement," Abalos told news hounds. "What drove them to surrender is that they have seen an opening, a chance to trust the government. To the others, give up because the government is here to help."

Authorities identified the rebel leaders as Noel Sinanday, Nickboy Sinanday, Rady Kinoyog, Jilmar Dahinlay, Jertolui Hilario, Roselyn Omandam, Maricel Colawing and Jenelyn Palta. They were said to be operating in the mountains of Bukidnon in Mindanao.

As a goodwill gesture, the eight led the military to three arms caches hidden in villages in the town of Talakag, a rebel stronghold, authorities said.

In addition, more than a dozen NPA rebels surrendered in Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato and Zamboanga del Sur provinces, according to the state-run Philippine News Agency.

The NPA has been waging one of the world’s longest-running Maoist rebellions since 1969. It peaked in the 1980s, when the number of armed rebels was believed to be about 20,000. Today, slightly more than 2,000 are scattered across the Philippines, according to authorities.

The surrenders came weeks after CPP founder Sison, 83, died on Dec. 16 from natural causes in the Netherlands, where he went into self-exile.

"The loss of their highest leader has critically affected the morale of the [rebels]. Without Sison’s direction and leadership, the CPP-NPA will suffer," said Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol said.

"That is why their remnants are yielding, even as 2023 has just started, because they know the disaster [that they are facing]. With this situation, we expect more of their comrades to surface and lay down their arms."

Zawahiri’s death raised many questions. Who gave on-the-ground intelligence for the US attack? Is Kabul safe anymore? Reportedly, even top Taliban leaders left the capital city for fear of more attacks.

Another side of the Taliban’s challenge is existential. Zawahiri’s death has confirmed the rumours that there are widening gaps in its ranks.

From the start, the militia was divided into two main groups: one led by its deputy prime minister, Abdul Ghani Baradar, called the Kandahari group, which is entrenched in Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second city, near Pakistain’s southern border; the other led by its hardline interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani

forces.

This division seems dormant, but the mutual tensions from time to time weaken the Taliban's grip over the country. The barometer of this division is their rival krazed killer group, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Khorasan (IS-K). The IS-K’s numbers doubled in 2022, spreading its operations to all of the country’s 34 provinces, targeting with precision the Taliban's interests, including attacks on Chinese, Russian and Pak missions in Kabul.

Without admitting the presence of the IS-K, the Taliban, however, understands that this challenge could not arise without defections in its own ranks. This rising threat can make the IS-K a site of convergence for anti-Taliban groups, including resistance in the country’s northern parts, and especially the Panjshir Valley.

Unleashing the current oppression against women, therefore, also reveals the Taliban leaders’ efforts to make their foot soldiers realise that their ideology of implementing their own violent mostly peaceful brand of sharia is intact, a system in which women are forced to stay at home.

Daily Evacuation Brief January 16, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • “KILLER COLD” RESULTS IN THE DEATH OF PEOPLE AND LIVESTOCK IN THE COUNTRY – A cold front has killed people in several Provinces and has decimated herds of livestock. Rural areas were said to have been experiencing the highest rates of mortality and internally displaced persons, many of whom lack access to adequate shelter are among those who died from exposure. Exacerbating the issue, electricity supplies from Uzbekistan have been halted and residents in cities and towns are only able to heat their homes for a few hours each night. While the Taliban claim the power shortages are due to ‘technical problems’, sources in the Palace have said it may have been caused by missed payments to Uzbekistan. Those who raise livestock in Badghis say they have lost approximately 10% of their herds over the past two days and fear more could die before the cold spell lifts.

  • FORMER MP SHOT AND KILLED AT HER HOME IN KABUL – Mursal Nabizada, an MP from the former regime and one of the many elected officials who remained in Afghanistan, was killed by unidentified gunmen in her home late on Saturday night. A bodyguard was also killed during the incident and a brother was wounded. An unconfirmed report stated that Nabizada had been propositioned for marriage by an unidentified senior Taliban intelligence officer on 3 separate occasions and she had repeatedly refused his advances.
Oh? That would explain it — the hussy!
Police say an investigation is underway.

  • UN CRITICIZES CENTRAL BANK FOR MISLEADING STATEMENTS ABOUT CASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM – The Afghanistan Central Bank released statements on social media that suggested it had directly received an aid package valued at $40 million US dollars. The statements seemed to suggest the funds were deposited for use of the government. The posts elicited a strong response from UNAMA officials, clarifying the funds were not deposited in governmental accounts at the Central Bank and that funds were not provided to the Taliban for use in their operational budget. Some analysts believe the statement from UNAMA was directed both at the Taliban and to reassure some donor states who have been critical of the cash infusions.

  • LEAKED MINISTRY OF DEFENSE DOCUMENT CLAIMS THAT ISIS-K IS USING A CAMP IN PAKISTAN TO TRAIN RECRUITS – The document, provided by a source in the Ministry of Defense, says that ISIS-K is utilizing a training camp in the Tirah Valley of Khyber, Pakistan to train approximately 7,000 recruits. Apparently, a redacted version of the document was submitted to Pakistan’s Ambassador in Kabul. Another source thought the document was not based on fact but was meant to blunt criticisms from the government of Pakistan about possible TTP strongholds in Afghanistan.

  • SOME PASSPORT OFFICES SAID TO BE REOPENING – Some of the Provincial Passport offices have posted notices on social media saying they are reopening. We have yet to confirm the accuracy of these reports. The office in Nangarhar made an announcement on social media stating that “Citizens who have paid the fee to the bank before 23 October 2022…are informed to come to the Nangarhar police headquarters…”. We are attempting to determine if the Police Headquarters is officially involved in the process now and whether the offers are real.

  • DISTURBING RUMORS FROM KHOST PROVINCE THAT GIRLS IN GRADES 1-6 WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND SCHOOL – A video circulating on social media, purportedly from a school in Khost Province shows young female students crying and screaming in a courtyard of the school while Taliban officials try to talk to them. According to the eyewitness who posted the video, the girls were told they could no longer attend school. There are reports the Mullah who administers the school was arrested and led away after he protested the closure. We do not know if this information is accurate and whether it would be a local/provincial/national policy. We assess that if the policy is a national one, there will be large-scale protests and demonstrations. In addition, such a move would likely make the Taliban a ‘pariah-state’ that would only be able to deal with other shunned nations such as Iran and Russia.
It won’t be announced as a formal policy, anymore than the permanent ban on female education at the secondary and university levels has been announced as a formal policy. It’s just that the review and update of materials to meet Shariah strictures will somehow never be completed.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • THE COLD FRONT IN AFGHANISTAN EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER 48HRS – Dangerous temperatures are expected to continue in the country. Cold injuries and/or death by exposure are a real risk and travel is strongly discouraged.

  • CENTRAL BANK TO AUCTION $14 MILLION DOLLAR TODAY – Concerns over the weakening Afghani against the dollar may be prompting more public auctions over the coming weeks.

  • SAVE THE CHILDREN PROGRAMS MAY BE SHUT DOWN AGAIN – While the well-respected NGO announced the limited reopening of their programs with female staff in select provinces, we do not anticipate they will remain open for long. A source in Kandahar claimed the supreme leader flew into a rage after hearing the announcement.
What a pity he didn’t drive himself to a severe stroke...
As was witnessed when a few Provinces reopened schooling for girls, the Taliban sent detachments to rapidly close them down. We suspect this will happen in this case. We hope we are wrong.

Nota bene: The January 15th Afghan Digest can be seen here. But I judged there was nothing of interest to us at Rantburg, so I didn’t work up a post yesterday.

Somali soldier sentenced to death for civilian killing
A reminder about the culture that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (more formally Ilhan Abdullahi Omar) comes from.
[ShabelleMedia] A Somali soldier was sentenced to death on Sunday for killing a civilian after refusing to pay him extortion, an army officer said.

Abukar Mohammed Nurani, a well-known street vendor lost his life for 5,000 Somali Shillings which is equivalent to $0.25 last week after engaging in an argument with the SNA soldier.

The cold blood murder was condemned by the public who put pressure on the government to bring the killer to justice.

The police acted swiftly and nabbed the culprit while on the run, according to the reports.

On Sunday, the court of the armed forces announced the death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
against the soldier and said the ruling will be executed if the defendant fails to appeal in 30 days.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Thursday at an anti-al-Shabaab

rally in Mogadishu that the government will prosecute every soldier who commits civilian killings.

A former soldier was executed in October last year for killing a Somali cabinet minister. Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi was executed by firing squad in Mogadishu for killing Somali Cabinet Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction Abbas Siraji in Somalia’s capital on May 2017.

Over 100 Political Figures Returned to Afghanistan in 3 Months: Commission
How many will long survive the decision?
[ToloNews] More than 100 former Afghan officials and politicians have returned to the country in the past three months, the Return and Communications Commission for Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures said.

Ahmadullah Wasiq, a front man for the commission, said the returnees include former ministers, provincial governors and other political figures.

"The returned individuals included at the level of deputies, ministers, governors, security chiefs, members of parliament, intelligence and military officers and every level," Wasiq said.

The commission said that in total, 471 political and former government figures have returned from abroad since May 2022.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch cautiously raised his hat over the edge of the horse trough on the end of a stick......
the deputy minister of foreign affairs, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, at a gathering in Kabul on Sunday called on Afghans to stay in the country and play their role in the development of Afghanistan.

"The opportunity for going abroad is paved for a lot of our brothers and everyone can go out. Afghan borders are open and no one has prevented anyone. Everyone can go abroad but going out (of the country) is not a solution. Life matters in the country not overseas," he said.

Analysts said that the government should use experienced figures so that they would not leave the country.

"Those who went out of the country, particularly influential figures, can play an effective role if an environment of trust is made," said Mustafa Murtazawi, a political analyst.

"Their expertise, experience and knowledge should be used. The situation should be made for them to stay in Afghanistan," said Aziz Maarij, a political analyst.

The Commission for Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures was formed based on a decree of the Islamic Emirate’s supreme leader in May 2022.

Save the Children Resumes Certain Activities with Female Staff in Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] Safe the Children informed in a blurb on 15 January about resuming its partial activities in Afghanistan. The Chief Operating Officer stated in a blurb, "While most of our programs remain on hold, we are restarting some activities such as health, nutrition and some education services."

Following the ban on female aid workers by the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
(IEA) on 24 December 2022, the organization paused its activities in the country while paying its employee’s total salaries and other benefits, the statement read.

The officer said that women make up 50% of the personnel at Safe the Children and are crucial to the organization’s services being delivered safely and efficiently.

Save the Children has started working in Afghanistan "since 1976s to deliver life-saving services to children and their families across the country" and is still committed to returning to its average level of operations as soon as possible.

Since September 2021, the organization has supported 4 million people, including 2 million children. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
more than 18 million children and adults will need humanitarian support in Afghanistan in 2023, stated by the officials.

Safe the Children’s chief operating officer urged the caretaker administration to lift the restriction on the organization’s female staff and other NGOs to begin operations with male and female staff.

Al-Shabaab explosions leave over 30 dead in central Somalia
[Garowe] Three separate al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
explosions left at least 30 people dead in the federal republic of Somalia, police said, with the attackers said to have targeted innocent civilians as the country continues with the offensive against the team which controls huge swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

For the last six months, the country has been fighting the murderous Moslems with unrelenting zeal, with the Somalia National Army [SNA] getting a major boost from the US Africa Command, the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] and the local militia who have taken weapons against the group.

Police said the first two explosions took place at Jalalaqsi leaving at least 12 people dead and at least 11 others fatally injured. The explosions came in quick succession as a suicide boom-mobile detonated while making an entry into a crucial checkpoint within the sparingly populated town.

The third blast, police said, took place at Bulo-Burde, a town that has been exchanging hands between the security forces and the al-Shabaab Death Eaters. For the last six months, the local security teams have liberated the town a couple of times only to lose it again to the determined Death Eaters.

Police said the earth-shattering kaboom at Bulo-Burde left at least 18 people dead and 24 others critically maimed. The al-Shabaab murderous Moslems are losing strategic towns to security forces according to reports by the US Africa Command, which has been playing a key role in assisting the local forces to overcome the Death Eaters.

The Jalalaqsi explosion targeted a checkpoint which is near the station of Djiboutian troops serving in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS]. It is not a surprise for the murderous Moslems to often target military Forward Operating Bases across the country in their cowardly attacks.

Al-Shabaab has in return reverted to abduction and spontaneous attacks as retaliation to sustained military operations in central and southern Somalia. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently revealed that the local forces could completely take charge of the Galmadug and HirShabelle states.

On Saturday, President Hassan Sheikh hosted a meeting in Villa Somalia with some of the foreign diplomats based in Mogadishu. The presidency said the current war, SNA's taking over security responsibility from ATMIS, completing the constitution, debt relief, and federalism in Somalia were discussed.

The international community has been keen to boost local governance as a way of effectively handling al-Shabaab which threatens to overthrow the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia. al-Shabaab murderous Moslems also had over 250 banks and 70 mobile money transfer firms closed following an operation by the government.

Ethiopian Jihadist with ISIS killed in Somalia's Puntland
[Garowe] A senior IS-Somalia commander who hails from Æthiopia has been killed by regional troops of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, the state confirmed in a statement, following a botched attack in one of the cop shoppes within the coastal region of Bari where the snuffies have a presence.

Puntland said Abu Bara al-Yamani, who hails from the Amhara region of Æthiopia, was killed on Thursday after security forces repulsed a terror attack targeting Bali-Dhidin cop shoppe within the Bari region. The commander has been on the radar in Somalia for a number of months.

His death was regarded as a major "victory" in the fight against violent mostly peaceful extremism in Somalia, a country that is also struggling to eliminate al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them...
hard boys. Both IS-Somalia and al-Shabaab have tapped imported muscle into their systems and have been targeting both Kenya and Æthiopia.

IS-Somalia has struggled to grow and expand territory past the Bari region of the Puntland party because of formidable security teams and al-Shabaab animosity. The group has been at loggerheads with al-Shabaab snuffies for a number of years and seemingly lost the fight.
A little bit of bleach in the gene pool.
The IS-Somalia snuffies are said to have recruited fighters from Æthiopia and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
but the number keeps reducing due to logistical challenges. The group rarely wages attacks in Bosaso and other neighboring towns due to the heavy presence of security forces within the Puntland region.

On Thursday, Bari region police commander Abdulkadir Jama Dirir said overnight IS attack on Balidhidhin cop shoppe ’repulsed.’ A policeman and a hard boy were killed in the ensuing firefight, in an apparent reference to the commander, who was not immediately identified.

On August 19, 2021, IS-Somalia attacked Balidhidhin killing mayor Mohammed Ahmed Mumin, in what remains one of the worst attacks within the state. Puntland has pledged to work closely with the federal government of Somalia forces as the country counties with an offensive against the hard boys.

from a fixed base in the central region on Sunday, the latest in a series of successive territorial gains.

The government-run media reported that the army tanks rolled into Baraga Sheikh Amir area, which lies on the outskirts of the newly liberated Masagaaway in the Galgadud region.

Abdi Ali Gadid, a senior al-Shabaab commander fell to the hands of the troops after his fellow fighters unexpectedly vacated their bases before the arrival of the SNA.

The army officials in the region said Gadid was detained while smuggling weapons to his group. His capture is yet a blow to al-Shabaab as it losses grip on most of its strongholds.

Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
state said it hails the victory against al-Shabaab by the SNA, its troops, and community fighters, who took the war inside the group’s hideouts after the president’s call.

On Saturday, the combined forces took over Elhur, a strategic area close to Harardhere town in the Mudug region following a bloodless offensive, according to military sources.

Since the current war began last year, the government said dozens of villages in the Galgadud, Hiran, and Middle Shabelle regions have been liberated during an all-out assault.

Palestinian shot dead by troops in West Bank scuffle; IDF says he tried to grab gun
[IsraelTimes] Footage shows man struggling with soldiers near settlement of Ofra; military says Ahmad Kahla, 45, refused to be questioned, violence ensued

A Paleostinian man was rubbed out by Israeli soldiers on Sunday morning near the West Bank settlement of Ofra, north of Ramallah while scuffling with troops after refusing to be questioned, the military and Paleostinian health officials said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, troops identified a suspicious vehicle near the settlement that allegedly refused to stop for a routine inspection.

"Following the identification of this suspicious activity, the soldiers used riot dispersal means in order to detain one of the suspects in the vehicle," the IDF said in a statement.

The army said a "violent mostly peaceful confrontation" began, during which the suspect attempted to grab a soldier’s gun. "The soldiers used live fire toward the suspect," the IDF said, adding that he was hit.

Unclear partial footage of the incident showed the man scuffling with troops, before gunshots ring out.

The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry said the man had been killed by the gunfire. He was named as Ahmad Kahla, 45, from the nearby Paleostinian town of Silwad.

Initial, unconfirmed reports by Hebrew-language media had suggested the suspect and several others were first hurling stones at a nearby military post and said the man then ran toward troops while allegedly brandishing a knife, before being shot.

The IDF did not say Kahla was armed or had been hurling stones in its statement.

The army added that the incident would be investigated further.

Netanyahu shrugs off Saturday night protest, says millions of voters demanded judicial overhaul
They really are trying for the anti-Trump playbook again. But now Bibi has the benefit of not only his own previous experience, but watching what happened to his dear friend, President Trump.
[IsraelTimes] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday shrugged off an 80,000-strong rally the night before against the government’s contentious plans to remake the judiciary, telling cabinet ministers that the national elections were a bigger display of the public’s will.

Changes in the pipeline include weakening the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
so that it will not be able to veto legislation and policies deemed unconstitutional, and granting the government control over the panel that selects judges.

Critics say that along with other planned legislation, the overhaul will impact Israel’s democratic character by upsetting its system of checks and balances, granting too much power to the executive branch, and leaving minorities undefended.

"Two months ago there was a huge demonstration, the mother of all demonstrations. Millions of people went into the streets in order to vote in the elections. One of the main topics that they voted on was reforming the judicial system," Netanyahu said of the November 1 vote, according to a statement from his office.

"Everyone who was at our election rallies, in city centers, and in neighborhoods, heard the voices rising from the crowds," he said at the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, though he did not give a specific example.

"Millions of people went into the streets in order to vote in the elections. One of the main topics that they voted on was reforming the judicial system," Netanyahu told ministers.

Netanyahu urged against being "swept away by inflammatory slogans about civil war and the destruction of the state."

He added, "I must say that when we were in the opposition, we did not call for civil war and did not speak about the destruction of the state, even when the government made decisions that we vociferously opposed. I expect the leaders of the opposition to do the same."

Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin gets on Zelenskiy's last nerve sanctions list
Boris Rozhin, the Crimean based military journalist/blogger announces he has been placed on Ukrainian president Zelenskiy's sanctions list.

Who is Boris Rozhin? Outside of the Russian ministry of defense and the ministries of defense of Luganks and Donetsk, Rozhin is perhaps the most knowledgeable about what is happening on the Russian side.

I post his posts all the time because he is plugged in to the Russian military side. In my mind, he is a valuable asset for such knowledge.

His original announcement, categorized as humor, is here. Says Rozhin:

Zelensky waved another sanctions list, where he wrote me down.

I am forbidden for 10 years to take part in the privatization of state property in Ukraine.

Will have to buy gold out of desperation.

I could not find his entry in the Ukrainian president's decree dated January 15, 2023, but I am told it is there.

Eni announces 'significant' gas discovery in Egyptian waters
Making Russia ever less important as a supplier. Two takes on the same story.
[AlAhram] The global energy company Eni announced on Sunday that it has made a "significant" gas discovery at the Nargis-1 exploration well in the Nargis Offshore Area Concession in the Eastern Mediterranean.
I expect the axis shifting will continue to 'slosh' crust borne liquids and gas seeps into adjacent regions. Is this a molecular match for the gas of the Israeli basin?
That sounds like a very good question. No doubt our professional and amateur geologists and oil men will know.
Around 61 metres of Miocene and Oligocene gas bearing sandstone were found at the well under 309 metres of water, Eni said in a statement, adding that the proximity of Nargis-1 to Eni’s current facilities will allow for further development of the gas discovery.

Eni, an Italian multinational energy company operating in Egypt since 1954, has also been awarded exploration rights in North Rafah, North El-Fayrouz, North East El Arish, Tiba and Bellatrix-Seti East.

The company is presently the leading producer in Egypt with an equity production of hydrocarbons of approximately 350,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to their website.

Eni's most notable discovery in Egypt was the Zohr Gas Field in 2015, which allowed the country to achieve self-sufficiency in gas by 2018.

Egypt's gas export revenues have increased eight-fold since 2014, as the country aims to become a major gas supplier to the European continent, especially since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukrainian conflict.

This comes in light of European countries' desire to diversify their energy sources in order to decrease dependency on Russian gas, which accounted for 45 percent of European imports in 2021, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Egypt also has the infrastructure for transporting and handling natural gas with a network of 7,000 km in pipelines, a distribution network of 31,000 km, and 29 gas-treatment plants as well as two LNG facilities — the Idku and Damietta plants.

Chevron says it discovered ‘significant’ natural gas find off Egypt’s coast

[IsraelTimes] The operator of Israel’s Leviathan and Tamar gas fields says exploration at Egyptian offshore field in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea ’encountered high-quality reservoirs’

US energy giant Chevron, which operates Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan gas fields off the Mediterranean coast, announced on Sunday that it made a "significant" new gas discovery in an Egyptian offshore field.

"Chevron is encouraged and excited by the success of this first exploration well which encountered high-quality reservoirs and follows from Chevron’s entry into the Egyptian upstream sector in 2020," said Clay Neff, president of Chevron International Exploration and Production. "The Eastern Mediterranean has abundant energy resources, and their development is driving strategic collaboration in the region."

The new gas discovery is located at the Nargis-1 exploration well, which is part of Egypt’s 1,800 square kilometers Nargis Offshore Area concession. With a 45% working interest, Chevron is the operator of the concession. The Middle East Economic Survey reported in December that the size of the new well was 3.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.

"The Nargis-1 well encountered approximately 200 net feet (61 m) of Miocene and Oligocene gas bearing sandstones and was drilled in 1,014 feet (309 m) of water by the Stena Forth drillship," Chevron said in a statement.

The announcement comes as Chevron has been seeking to explore further routes to sell gas from the eastern Mediterranean, and Egypt and Israel have been pushing efforts to become an energy hub in the region.

Israel and Egypt have emerged as gas exporters in recent years following major offshore discoveries, as Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
is determined to wean itself off dependence on Russian gas imports in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.

In June, Israel, Egypt and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
signed a memorandum of understanding that will see Israel export its natural gas to the bloc for the first time. According to the agreement, Israeli gas will be supplied via Egypt’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants to the EU.

Chevron owns a 39.66% stake in Israel’s Leviathan gas reservoir, one of the world’s largest deep-water gas discoveries, which contains an estimated 22 trillion cubic feet of gas. Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie was cracking himself up, but nobody else seemed to be getting the non-stop jokes...
Chevron last year signed a deal with Egypt’s state-owned gas company Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) to explore the transport, import, liquefication and export of natural gas from the eastern Mediterranean.

Chevron, which also operates and holds a 25% stake in the Tamar gas field off Israel’s Mediterranean coast in December, announced a final investment decision (FID) needed to proceed with the first phase of expanding natural gas production to meet growing domestic demand and boost exports to Egypt. As part of the FID, the partners in the Tamas natural gas rig, located some 90 kilometers (55 miles) west of Haifa, are expected to invest some $673 million in a project expanding gas production from the offshore field.

Natural gas operations have put Israel on a path to energy independence — and have shielded it from the worst of the energy crisis sparked by the Russian war on Ukraine this year — in a country with few natural resources.

Gunfight breaks out in J&K's Budgam
[GREATERKASHMIR] A shootout between security forces and snuffies started at Redbugh area of Central Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
's Budgam district on Sunday, police officials said.

They said that the exchange of fire was triggered after forces cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of bully boyz there.

"Encounter has started at Redbugh, Magam area of Budgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow, " Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

Arabia
Faction loyal to Islah party escalates tensions with UAE in Hadhramaut
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Tensions escalated in in Hadhramaut province, eastern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, after the "First Military Region" loyal to Islah Party sent military reinforcements to the outskirts of the strongholds of the UAE-affiliated factions on the coast of Hadhramaut.

Local sources stated that the first military region pushed a battalion to the Wadi al-Ayn district, which is one of the strategic areas linking between the valley and the coast of Hadhramaut.

Dozens of Islah party turbans deployed today, Saturday, on board military vehicles in the streets and entrances of Seiyun city, the sources added.

This comes nearly two days after the UAE-backed factions sent military reinforcements to Jathma camp near the city of Seiyun, the stronghold of the commands of the Islah Party turbans and the Saudi forces in Yemen’s eastern regions.

UAE forces reportedly reinforcing positions in Mahrah
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Emirati factions On Sunday, pushed military reinforcements to Mahrah province, eastern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on testimonies of Tribal Sources.

According to tribal sources, units of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias arrived in the last hours in the al-Masilah, coming from the city of Mukalla in the neighboring Hadhramaut province.

The reinforcements come in the context of an Emirati plan to tighten its grip on the strategic governorate, especially as the STC began withdrawing its factions from Hadhramaut, following its failure to control the oil-rich province.

The escalation of Emirati factions is expected to trigger a new round of direct confrontations between the Saudi-Emirati coalition factions in Mahrah, in the context of similar conflicts along the southern Yemeni governorates.

Mahrah tribes have previously thwarted the STC’s attempts to deploy its forces in the governorate’s directorates, in light of a wide tribal resistance against the coalition forces and their factions.

Tribes in Lahj province revolt against Emirati occupation
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s southern province of restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
on Sunday witnessed a new tribal uprising against Emirati factions, as public anger continued, demanding the expulsion of the Saudi-led coalition forces and their Presidential Council.

Thousands of rustics of Radfan district held protest against the continuing murdering of its sons by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia.

This came after the UAE-backed factions killed two recruits from the Radfan tribes, Majid al-Halimi and Fadel al-Jabali.
Local sources said that button men from the Security Belt forces affiliated with the STC fired directly at the demonstrators in an attempt to disperse them, injuring a number of them.

The protesters demanded the departure of all the STC’s units from the directorate, vowing to pursue the STC’s groups to deport them from the province.

The recent protests come in the context of a widespread tribal uprising in the districts of Lahj governorate against the Saudi-Emirati coalition factions.

Bus traveling between Kiryat Arba and Jerusalem comes under gunfire
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian button men shot up a bus carrying Israelis traveling along the West Bank’s main north-south highway on Sunday afternoon, causing no injuries, the military and local officials said.

The Israeli bus driver reported coming under gunfire on Route 60, near the West Bank city of Halhul, not far from Hebron. Images from the scene showed one impact on a window near the driver’s seat.

Local officials and first responders said there were no injuries aboard the bulletproof bus traveling between the settlement of Kiryat Arba and Jerusalem.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops scanning the area for suspects found several shell casings.

Police officers closed off the highway in both directions in the area for about an hour following the attack.

In recent months, Paleostinian button men have repeatedly targeted military posts, troops operating along the West Bank security barrier, Israeli settlements and civilians on the roads.

Islamic State Mozambique Recruiting Youths By Promising Fake Jobs In Cabo Delgado Warns Defense Minister Urges Youth
Kidnapping for recruitment without having to raise a finger? Evilly efficient.
[INTELLIGENCEBRIEFS] Mozambique’s Defense Minister, Cristóvão Chume has warned the country’s youth against being lured to Cabo Delgado Province with seeming well-paying jobs. He warned that a lot of the youth are being lured to CD with the promise of well-paying jobs in the LNG projects and other projects. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
instead of getting the promised jobs, they are forced to join the terror organization and kill people or be killed.

This was revealed by the minister during the ceremony to launch the military census in Malema, in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula. He said that current intelligence indicates that young people deceived with promises of jobs "are being taken to Cabo Delgado to be part of the terrorists" and when they arrive in the province they are "forced to kill and destroy the Mozambican patrimony.

Cabo Delgado province has been in crisis for the past five years with the jihadists insurgency gradually morphing into what is currently known as the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Mozambique (ISM). ISM has been accused of recruiting members both locally from within the province as well as from other provinces and the neighbors like Tanzania and South Africa. Despite there being a regional force from SADC and Rwanda, the militancy has shown resilience and continues to peddle senseless violence and has gone ahead to displace tens of thousands of people and kill thousands.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Set for Historic Demographic Turn, Accelerated by COVID Traumas
All this assumes, of course, that Communist China has been and continues to collect and report population statistics honestly, and that therefore the tipping point was not passed a decade ago.
[USNews] Living under China's stringent COVID-19 restrictions for the past three years had caused Zhang Qi enough stress and uncertainty to consider not having babies in the country.

When China abruptly dismantled its "zero COVID" regime last month to let the virus spread freely, the balance tilted to a definite "No", the Shanghai-based e-commerce executive said.

Stories about mothers and babies not being able to see doctors as medical facilities were overwhelmed by COVID infections were the final straw for Zhang.

"I heard that giving birth at a public hospital is just horrific. I really wouldn’t consider having a baby," the 31-year-old said.

A glimpse of the scars caused by the pandemic to China's already bleak demographic outlook may come to light when it reports its official 2022 population data on Jan. 17.

Some demographers expect China's population in 2022 to post its first drop since the Great Famine in 1961, a profound shift with far-reaching implications for the global economy and world order.

New births for 2022 are set to fall to record lows, dropping below 10 million from last year's 10.6 million babies - which were already 11.5% lower than in 2020.

"With this historical turn, China has entered a long and irreversible process of population decline, the first time in China and the world's history," said Wang Feng, professor of Sociology at University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,.

"In less than 80 years China’s population size could be reduced by 45%. It will be a China unrecognisable by the world then."

China's total population increased by 480,000 to 1.4126 billion in 2021. The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
predicts China’s population will start to decline this year when India overtakes it as the world's most populous country.

U.N. experts see China's population shrinking by 109 million by 2050, more than triple the decline of their previous forecast in 2019.

While nine of the 10 most populous nations in the world are experiencing declines in fertility, China's 2022 fertility rate of 1.18 was the lowest and well below the 2.1 OECD standard for a stable population.

The country, which imposed a one-child policy from 1980-2015, officially acknowledged it was on the brink of a demographic downturn last year, when the National Health Commission said the population may start declining before 2025.

In October, President Xi Jinping said the government would enact further policies to boost the country’s birth rate.

Since 2021 authorities have introduced measures including tax deductions, longer maternity leave, enhanced medical insurance, and housing subsidies to incentivize people to have more babies.

Their impact so far has been lacklustre.

Online searches for baby strollers on China's Baidu dropped 17% in 2022 and are down 41% since 2018, while searches for baby bottles are down more than a third since 2018. In contrast, searches for elderly care homes surged eight-fold last year.

The reverse is playing out in India, where Google Trends shows a 15% year-on-year increase in searches for baby bottles in 2022, while searches for cribs rose almost five-fold.

The economic impact of an ageing society will be significant.

Demographer Yi Fuxian expects the proportion of those aged 65 years and older to reach 37% in 2050, from 14% last year and 5% in 1980. Its labour force won't be replenished at the same rate due to declining births.

"Rapid aging is slowing China’s economy, reducing revenues, and increasing government debt...China is getting old before it gets rich."

Headless skeletons in a settlement trench: A 7,000-year-old mass grave?
Brain eaters?
Alien experiments?
Failed Alien experiments?

[Jpost] Researchers uncovered the headless remains of dozens of people in a trench. Now, they're trying to piece together the story of how the skeletons got there.

A trench containing 38 headless skeletons was uncovered at an excavation site in Vráble, Slovakia by archaeologists from Germany's Christian-Albrecht University (CAU) and Slovakia's Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences back in August of 2022.

The findings were expanded upon in detail on the CAU website this past Wednesday.

The excavation site, Vráble-Ve'lke Lehemby, dates back to Central Europe's Early Neolithic era (5,250-4,950 BCE) and is comprised of the remnants of three neighboring villages and is one of the largest settlements of the time and place.
What a nice change to have it be a matter for archeologists and not modern mass murderers
.WHAT WAS IMPORTANT ABOUT THE EXCAVATIONS IN VRÁBLE-VE'LKE LEHEMBY?
The settlement was remarkably developed for the era as well, with 80 houses being inhabited contemporaneously, a 1.3 km double ditch surounding one of the villages and border-deliniating palisades.

The skeletonized remains of the 38 individuals were spread haphazardly over an area of roughly 15 square meters. The careless positioning of the bodies suggests that they were tossed or rolled roughly into the grave. Furthermore, with the exception of only one of the skeletons, an infant's, each individual was missing its skull.

"In mass graves with an unclear positioning, the identification of an individual is usually based on the skull, so for us, this year's find represents a particularly challenging excavation situation,” says prof. Martin Furholt, the leader of the project.

Despite initial appearances, there are some indicators that headless bodies discovered in the trench were not necessarily the victims of a mass execution. For instance, one of the researchers posits that the positioning of the corpses may not be a result of being thrown or rolled into the trench, but that bones that had already been there have been pushed aside to make room for further bodies.

Additionally, some of the skeletons show signs that their heads were removed carefully, post-mortem rather than as part of a violent killing blow. The researchers acknowledge that more study is required to make a determination.

Further investigation will examine any connections between the decapitated individuals. Any commonalities between them could help the archaeologist piece together their story. It's also possible that the individuals met their ends from either internal or external violence and do not, in fact, share any commonalities aside from being residents of the same place.

Whatever the case may be, the site is being hailed as "unique" by the archaeologists and there is undoubtedly a lot left to learn from the neolithic era settlement.

The population is half Pashtun, the remainder Tadjik and Pashai. It had a repution for great wealth until it was conquered in the tenth century by Abu Mansur Sabuktigin.
He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. After wounding and killing beyond all measure, his hands and those of his friends became cold in counting the value of the plundered property.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russian Perspective: Operation to Denazify Ukraine: Operational Brief January 15th (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Kindly note that several entries in this article may have been removed because they included discussions of the grand strategic level.

[NewsFrontInfo] 23:11 Seven rockets of the HIMARS and Vilkha multiple launch rocket systems were intercepted in the area of the city of Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region and the settlement of Novyi Svet, Donetsk People's Republic.

22:19 In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 372 aircraft, 200 helicopters, 2,880 unmanned aerial vehicles, 400 anti-aircraft missile systems, 7,511 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 982 combat vehicles of multiple launch rocket systems, 3,828 field artillery pieces and mortars have been destroyed, as well as 8,040 units of special military vehicles.

21:33 Frontline summary for January 15

The front is moving beyond Soledar. According to reports from the field, the industrial zone near Rudnik-7 on the western outskirts of Soledar has come under the control of Wagner PMC, and battles are underway for the railway station Sol, Razdolovka and Blagodatnoye. It is planned to cover the Red Mountain from the north and south.

Near Artemovsk is also active. The assault on Kleshcheevka continues, although the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding the line for now. Ours are attacking the southern and northern suburbs of Bakhmut, trying to take control of the main roads leading into the city. A huge number of personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is concentrated in the city and the outskirts.

Against this background, the opinion of American analysts sounds rather strange, who write in the Washington Post that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are considering the possibility of retreat from Artemovsk. This is motivated by preparations for a counteroffensive on another sector of the front, which requires the preservation of weapons, ammunition and experienced fighters. Based on the information from under Artemovsk, this is not at all like the truth.

Ukraine continued to strike at civilians. Three MLRS rockets fired at Shakhtyorsk in the rear of the DPR. Under the shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Berdyansk, as well as Shebekino, Belgorod Region, the market was damaged. An example of courage was shown by a guard who covered one of the grenades dropped by a Ukrainian UAV on one of the largest power substations in Bryansk. The man is in intensive care, the city was left with electricity. Hope he gets better.

As for yesterday's missile strike by the RF Armed Forces, it was carried out, among other things, against Ukraine's military command and control system. According to our Defense Ministry, all assigned objects were hit. In Konstantinovka occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the DPR, an important logistics center for the Donbass grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one of these military facilities was destroyed.

I also note that this time the blows were delivered to generating capacities. For example, the turbine hall of the Burshtynskaya TPP in the Ivano-Frankivsk region was hit, at least three out of 12 generators of the station were destroyed. Before that, ours hit the thermal power plant only once - at the Dnieper thermal power plant in Zaporozhye.

The targets of all previous attacks were transformers. Burshtynskaya TPP helped Ukraine maintain a balance in the energy system of the central and western regions of the country by regulating the power of the turbines depending on changes in consumption. The failure of one of the largest thermal power plants should have a significant impact on the energy supply of Transcarpathia and neighboring regions. Also among the targets of yesterday's missile attack were 750 kV substations and CHP shops. Now the attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure are on a larger scale.

On providing assistance to Ukraine. The UK is ready to transfer about 30 AS90 self-propelled howitzers (this is about a third of all available). There is news that the British will provide up to four Apache military helicopters after the transfer of Challenger-2 tanks.

The high accuracy of their weapons - Hellfire missiles - is noted. True, the British Ministry of Defense stated that the decision to transfer Apache has not yet been made. I hope the helicopters will not be provided, because, no matter how paradoxical it may sound, this will radically change the situation at the front.

The story of the German Leopard tanks is developing. One option for Germany is to provide tanks destined for Slovakia and the Czech Republic. At the same time, the German concern Rheinmetall, one of the manufacturers of Leopard-2, which has 22 Leopard-2 and 88 Leopard tanks, said that it takes about a year to prepare them for shipment to Ukraine. To be honest, I don’t quite understand what exactly needs to be done with supposedly existing tanks for so long, but in any case, Germany will have to participate in a tank alliance for Kyiv. And the format will become clear at an early meeting at the Rammstein base.

While Europe is counting tanks, the New York Times has counted all the weapons and summed up that the stocks of weapons in Europe are running out. The US still has resources, but they are also running out of weapons. However, Europe is especially vulnerable, and it is completely dependent on the US. Arms orders will increase, budgets will rise, Europe, having given all its weapons to Ukraine, will also probably place orders with the American military-industrial complex. Journalists emphasize that the West is exhausted by the war of attrition waged by Russia. I would add that the West is different from the West, and the US is only in the black so far.

19:53 Formidable 152mm 2S3 "Acacias": calculations of self-propelled artillery installations destroy the enemy -video

Artillerymen of the Southern Military District, supporting the actions of motorized rifle units, continue to strike at enemy fortifications, accumulations of manpower and columns of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, delivering reinforcements and ammunition.

When performing fire missions, the artillerymen interact with the crews of unmanned aerial vehicles, which carry out reconnaissance of enemy positions and correct the accuracy of the fire of combat vehicles.

“Today we carried out the task of suppressing and destroying enemy manpower and firepower. Up to 11 km to the north, a congestion of personnel and armored vehicles was revealed. They immediately handed over the coordinates, the calculation was aimed, fired the first shot, and made corrections. In general, the shooting turned out to be effective, up to five servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and one unit of armored vehicles were destroyed, ”the serviceman with the call sign “Forester” explained.

“The city is our element. It's useless to compete with us here, ”- an employee of the PMC Wagner.

During the assault on the fortifications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the residential areas of Soledar, the infantry squads and platoons of the Wagner Group skillfully implemented the effect of operational surprise. The work was carried out under the cover of cannon and rocket artillery units of the RF Armed Forces.

The Wagnerites divided into three detachments and began to storm the city from the left and right flanks, creating a threat of encirclement. Part of the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to withdraw, and the Ukrainian militants who remained in the city were deprived of communications and ammunition.

Dense shelling and active offensive operations demoralized the enemy. The Armed Forces of Ukraine had no choice but to retreat to the areas of salt mines and the village of Blagodatnoye.

In the course of checking the operational information received, police officers, together with employees of the State Security Service, the VOG and the National Guard in the Tokmak district, in the vicinity of the village of Dolina, in a forest belt, discovered a hidden dugout in which five anti-tank guided missiles were stored, armed with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The engineering and sapper group, the discovered objects and the dugout were destroyed on the spot, by demolition.

15:47 After the final fall of the city's defenses, the VSE soldiers left the residential areas and were moved to its surroundings. As a result of the cleansing, employees of the PMC "Wagner" seized various anti-tank weapons and an impressive amount of Western-made small arms for close infantry combat -video

Garage arrays and residential buildings were turned into enemy locations. This is evidenced by the abandoned Swedish AT-4 HEAT anti-tank grenade launchers. With their help, the militants intended to hold back the onslaught of Wagner tank platoons. Not without "exotics": the formations of Ukrainian nationalists were given NATO 7.62mm M62 cartridges with tracer bullets from the Vietnam War.

Among other things, fast-loading magazines and 40-mm fragmentation shells produced in Bulgaria for RLV-HEF underbarrel grenade launchers were found.

Tactical professionalism and high endurance of the Wagner PMC assault groups did not allow the enemy to effectively use these ammunition.

08:07 Urgent statement of Interdepartmental Coordinating Headquarters of the Russian Federation for Humanitarian Response in Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine is preparing for a large-scale provocation in the coming days to discredit Russia's actions in the framework of the "grain deal" and accusations of creating a "food shortage" in Ukraine.

In the village of Karaichnoye, Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian special service is mining a granary, after blowing it up, the Russian Federation will be accused of allegedly “deliberately destroying grain reserves in Ukraine”, “provoking famine” and “failing”, thus, the “grain deal”. In the Western media, the incident will be presented as "another atrocity of the Russian troops", requiring a "tough response from the world community."

To prepare the sabotage in the city of Volchansk, Kharkiv region, a group of Ukrainian mine-explosive specialists and SBU officers, totaling up to 30 people, arrived.

The owner of the granary is a freelance officer of the Security Service of Ukraine V.Uvarov. We also know the initial data on the head of the group A. Tkachuk and all its other members, as well as their current location - in the military registration and enlistment office of the city of Volchansk at the address Dukhovnaya st., 29.

Against the background of military failures of the Ukrainian army and on the eve of the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Ramstein (Germany) on January 20 of this year. By such high-profile provocations, the Kyiv authorities are trying to increase pressure on public opinion in Western countries in order to achieve new large-scale deliveries of modern weapons and military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

[Suddenly] Justice Department sees first acquittal of Jan. 6 rioter found not guilty on obstruction charge
[FoxNews] Capitol rioter Joshua Black, who was shot in the face, said his goal was to praise 'the name of Jesus'.

The Justice Department saw the first acquittal of a Jan. 6 rioter on the felony obstruction charge.

Joshua Black, of Alabama, was shot in the face by a police projectile while breaching the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Court documents show him with blood on the side of his face while in the Senate chamber. Afterward, he also allegedly recorded YouTube videos with blood still on his cheek, recounting what happened.

"I had accomplished my goal. I pled the blood of Jesus on the Senate floor. You know, I praised the name of Jesus on the Senate floor," Black said in a video, according to an FBI affidavit. "That was my goal. I think that was God’s goal."

Following a week-long bench trial, Black was ultimately found not guilty of the charge of obstruction of an official proceeding – a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, Politico reported. U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled Black had a "unique stew in his mind," making it difficult to determine whether he knew he was breaking the law.

The judge said prosecutors failed to prove Black’s intent was to disrupt Congress – or even whether Black was familiar with the congressional proceedings occurring that day to certify Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. Jackson argued that some evidence even suggested Black thought the election certification ended by the time he reached the Capitol.

Black was convicted of other charges over the Jan. 6 riot, including disorderly conduct in a restricted building while carrying a dangerous weapon. That’s a felony that carries a maximum 10-year sentence. Court documents say Black admitted in a YouTube video to carrying a knife that day. "I wasn’t planning on pulling it. I just carry a knife because I do. I work outside, and you need knives, you know. I just, you’re not allowed to carry guns in DC, and I don’t like being defenseless," he said.

Axios reported that Black is the first Jan. 6 defendant who reached the Senate floor to be acquitted of obstruction of justice. His sentencing on the other charges is set for May 5.

As of Jan. 3, 2023, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said more than 950 defendants have been arrested in nearly all 50 states and the District of Columbia in connection to the Jan. 6. riot at the U.S. Capitol. That includes more than 284 defendants who have been charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees.

Islamic State group blamed in church bombing that killed 10 in Congo
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

An alleged terrorist bombing of a Pentecostal church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
killed 10 people and injured at least 39 more on Sunday.

The government of Congo accused Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terrorist group the Allied Democratic Forces
...the ADF is one of several murderous Moslem groups in NE Congo. In 2019 the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on them for the usual reasons. They don't appear to be affiliated with al-Qaeda or Islamic State, though ISIS claims their work from time to time — they just like killing infidels....
of the attack.

"The Government strongly condemns the kaboom visibly perpetrated by ADF terrorists, this Sunday 15/01/2023, against citizens in full worship in the parish of the 8th Community of Pentecostal Churches of Congo in the city of Kasindi in North Kivu," Congo's Ministry of Transportation and Communication said in a statement.

The church is located in Kisindi, a town in Congo's North Kivu province about 5 miles away from Beni, which is known to have heavy ADF activity.

The bomb used in the attack was an improvised bomb.

Military spokesperson Antony Mualushayi said the scene is under control and an investigation is underway.

The U.S. Congress describes ADF as an "armed group primarily active in the Democratic Republic of Congo." In its September report on the organization it said the group has pledged allegiance to ISIS and poses a threat to long-running efforts by the United States to help stabilize the DRC.
Al Ahram adds:
Details of the attack are hazy, but Congolese military front man Antony Mualushayi said the "terrorist act" happened in a Pentecostal church in North Kivu province's Kasindi, a town on the border with Uganda.

A Kenyan was arrested following the kaboom, he added, although the perpetrator of the attack in the turbulent region remains unclear.

The explosion killed at least 10 people and maimed 39, Mualushayi said, revising up an initial corpse count of five. Both tolls were provisional, he said.

Joel Kitausa, a local civil-society figure, also put the corpse count at 10, and said 58 people had been maimed.

But the front man for Uganda's military operation in the DRC, Bilal Katamba, said on Sunday evening that 16 people had been killed in the blast, and 20 maimed.

"The attackers used an IED to carry out the attack and we suspect ADF is behind the attack," he added.

AFP was unable to independently confirm the corpse count.

The DRC's communications ministry said on social media that the attack was apparently carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which the Islamic State group claims as its affiliate in central Africa.

The ADF is one of the deadliest of the more than 120 gangs in eastern DRC, many of them the legacy of regional wars that flared at the turn of the century.

It has been accused of slaughtering thousands of Congolese civilians and carrying out kabooms in Uganda. ADF operatives have also planted bombs in towns in North Kivu in the past.

'MORE VISIBLE AND MORE LETHAL'
In 2021, the United States labelled the ADF a "foreign terrorist organization" with links to the Islamic State group. The militia is active mainly in North Kivu and neighbouring Ituri province.

The same year, a joint Congolese-Ugandan military operation began targeting the ADF inside the DRC.

But the attacks have continued.

A report by independent experts for the UN Security Council, released in December, said the ADF had "continued its geographic expansion" despite the Congolese-Ugandan military operation, killing at least 370 civilians since April 2022.

It also warned that the ADF was changing tactics: opting for "more visible and more lethal" kabooms in urban areas, said the report.

In April last year, for example, a woman detonated a boom jacket in a bar in North Kivu's capital Goma, according to the independent UN experts. Six people died in the attack and 16 more were maimed.

Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi placed North Kivu and Ituri under a so-called state of siege in 2021 in a bid to stem the violence, with military officials replacing civilian administrators.

The measure has also largely failed to stop attacks against civilians.

The active uplink commands the orbital unit to remain in orbit. Should the command not be received in a timely fashion or an expected coded sequence fails, the unit de-orbits on a pre-planned trajectory.

For example, the continuous signals from WWV, et. al.

This strategy reacts to both ground station destruction and signal jamming at either end of the command chain.

There is some speculation that the X-37B shuttle missions may have reprogrammed these controls.

Globalization turned out to be wrong - the West interferes with it
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Dmitry Kosyrev

[RIA] What is happening in the world, that is, in the world as a whole, and what will happen next? Here, the clearest answers, of course, are given by astrologers, not forgetting to recall that everyone has predicted for a long time: where will you go from the Age of Aquarius. But there are other people who offer their versions of the general diagnosis to the world and humanity, people who are inclined to see this world not even from a bird's eye view, but from the level of the stratosphere.

And one such person once again reminds us : do you still think that you live in the age of globalization? Yes, for many years now, everything has been the other way around - deglobalization is taking place, and something needs to be done about it.

We are talking about the Indian, the former head of the Reserve Bank of the country, Raghuram Rajan. He has been promoting his idea for a long time, and once again he reminded us: since 2008, the share of exports of goods and services in the formation of world GDP has gone down. And back in 2007, the curve of foreign investment broke - then 5.3 percent of global GDP was invested outside their economies, then less and less, and in 2020 - only 1.3 percent.

He is echoed by a multinational chorus about who is to blame and what to do. But for the time being, for the beginning, we note: the music did not play for long. It was only in the 90s that they explained to us that the world has forever become one, saturated everywhere with the same goods and universal ideas (mandatory for everyone), there are no longer any borders, and this is excellent, and this is forever, if you please obey. But it turns out that this holiday lasted only ten or fifteen years?

The most interesting thing in the ongoing disputes, of course, is who is to blame for what is happening, that is, who made the wrong globalization, which not everyone liked. And here there are unexpected opinions, for example , this one: it was not so global, this globalization. If we talk only about the economy, then something else happened: the strengthening of economic integration within large regions. But if you look at how goods and investments move between regions, then everything is not so cheerful.

And it turns out to be an anomaly, you won’t believe, the USA , which has fallen out of regional integration within the Americas. The states, if you look at the statistics, showed little interest in their neighbors, and developed ties with someone more distant, and sometimes more for ideological reasons. True, the powerful merger of the American and Chinese economies turned out to be an exception, but America did not like this much, and the crazy idea of \u200b\u200bbreaking this alliance and creating two separate world economies - ideologically correct and incorrect (Chinese) - began to play with all colors. But real globalization will eventually build up anyway (albeit in competition between two economic poles instead of domination by one), and this is good.

This is strongly reminiscent of the article that has already appeared in Russian translation by two doves of the world from the United States - Monica Toft and Sidita Kushi, who, in fact, are promoting a book they wrote together under the beautiful title "We perish by the sword." The point is that America is carried away by military interventions around the world, which undermines its prestige and position in the family of nations, and at the same time its own economy, not to mention the world economy. And the conclusion from all this is again "Chinese": I would like to believe that now that there are two superpowers in the world again, Washington will return to the almost lost skills of diplomacy, instead of terrorizing everyone. He will return simply because he will learn again to be afraid of a serious collision - already with Beijing.

And one more publication during this discussion: it is about the results of 2022, when at several international meetings ( G20 in Indonesia and others) the world told the West: there must be some limits to confrontation. Let's urgently end this deglobalization of yours and return to relative normality.

It's all about sanctions. That is, about artificially imposed rules of trade and everything else under whatever pretexts you like, but after all, sanctions are reduced to the same deglobalization.

What happens together? The story with the "end of history" according to Francis Fukuyama: it turns out that it did not so much end as it went the wrong way the West wanted.

And here we must proudly say that our experts also took part in this conversation, and this happened quite a long time ago: we are talking about the material from the spring of 2021 by Andrey Kortunov, CEO of the Russian International Affairs Council . And there appear simple and understandable thoughts.

In particular, if you go through the subheadings, the process of rapprochement of economies, countries and peoples will go on without a single hegemon or leader who will drag this process along. That is, globalization awaits us not under pressure from above, but in the form of the development of horizontal ties. Further, this process will not have a center and periphery, its goal will be not so much the growth of global GDP, but the sustainable development of everyone and everyone - justice.

Not only states will participate here, but also private corporations, industry interests and many other non-state players. The axis of tension will not be "East-West", but rather "North-South", that is, countries that are too developed and too poor.

Here we can add that from the very beginning the idea of globalization smelled of ideological theft. It was just a beautiful word, invented at that very moment of the "end of history", in the 90s, to impress on all of us the inevitability of what is happening and the senselessness of resistance.

But after all, no fundamentally new processes began precisely in the 90s. Mankind, due to unhealthy curiosity and healthy adventurism, has always integrated tirelessly. How about the era of the Great Migration of Nations on the Eurasian continent, which mixed cultures and technologies in the most radical way? How about the Great Silk Road across Eurasia , that is, the centuries-old logistical trade link between the two great empires of that time - Roman and Chinese?

And there was also the era of Spanish galleons crossing the Pacific Ocean from Acapulco to Manilaand other smaller trade routes. Or (if we are only talking about the exchange of ideas) you can long and joyfully figure out what ancient religions the current ones have developed from, which, for example, Isis reminds us of with the baby Horus on her knees.

And what happened in the 90s is a typical information phantom, such a thing when you see the facts, but do not draw obvious conclusions from them, because someone tried to draw the conclusions for you. But in fact, at first the West tried to secure for itself the role of a dictating rule in the long, centuries-old process of communication between peoples - that is, to extend the era of its colonial conquest of the world by new means. Then it turned out that the same West was upset by the result and tried to stop the centuries-old process. But then they began to explain to him: guys, give it up.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: January 15th, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 21:35 Anna Malyar said that the battles for Soledar continue, and "everything else is unverified information, unauthorized and without knowledge of the general picture of the front, because it is a state secret." She stressed that information is made public by authorized persons, taking into account not only the operational situation, but also the military plans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Only the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the Minister of Defense, the Commander-in-Chief, the Chief of the General Staff are in full control of the situation at the front. And civilians do not have any control at all, do not know these plans and therefore do not understand the context in which they present the fragments of information that have become known to them. What causes damage to our defense," the Deputy Minister of Defense emphasized.

21:26 Zelensky said in an evening video message that the battle for Soledar, Bakhmut, for the entire Donetsk and Luhansk regions continues "without respite, without stopping."

20:44 Tehran will receive Russian Su-35 fighter jets in the spring, the Iranian publication Tasnim writes, citing a member of the commission on national security and foreign policy of the parliament, Shahriar Heydari. In addition, according to him, Iran ordered a number of other military equipment from Russia, including air defense systems, missile systems and helicopters, most of which will be received in the near future.

20:28 The deficit of generation in the power system after the attack is "huge", said Yasno CEO Sergey Kovalenko. According to him, a number of thermal power plants do not work due to serious damage, and it is too early to predict the recovery time. "The problem is so serious that Ukrenergo has significantly limited the volume of consumption throughout Ukraine and in Kyiv in particular... The destruction is significant. All power engineers are working on restoration, but we need to be prepared for the fact that the shutdowns can be long," Kovalenko said.

19:31 Podolyak said that PMC Wagner lost more than 3/4 of its "prisoners". According to him, the company took 38,244 people from prisons and colonies to participate in the war in Ukraine. Of these, 29,543 were killed, wounded, captured or missing. That is, losses as of today have reached 77%.

19:09 Ukraine can count on an increase in the supply of heavy weapons from Western countries in the near future, Stoltenberg said in an interview with Handelsblatt: "The recent promises to provide heavy military equipment are important, and I expect more in the near future ... We are in a decisive phase of the war so it's important that we provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs to win."

18:26 The head of the Kherson OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich, said that the enemy fired at the rehabilitation center for children with disabilities, as well as the area next to the student hostel. The Russians fired on private and apartment buildings and attacked a critical infrastructure facility. So far, seven people are known to have been injured, one of them in serious condition.

18:12 In Dnipro, the death toll has risen to 29 people, 73 injured , 30 of them in the hospital, 12 in serious condition, said the head of the OVA Valentin Reznichenko. The search operation has been going on for more than a day. Firefighters finally put out the fire, which started in the house from a rocket attack. About half of the broken structures have already been dismantled. In total, 39 residents of the house were rescued from the rubble, the fate of more than 40 is unknown.

18:09 The Russians fired at the premises in Kherson where the representatives of the Red Cross work. A fire broke out due to the shelling, there is no information about the victims. The President's Office said the enemy knew where he was striking.

17:24 Zelensky introduced another package of sanctions against Russian cultural figures , journalists and bloggers. There are 198 people on the list, including seven citizens of Ukraine.

16:46 In the Kremensk direction, Russians lose dozens of people and several pieces of equipment every day, said the head of the Luhansk OVA, Sergei Gaidai. In Belogorovka, according to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repel all attempts of enemy attacks - there is no threat of breaking through the defense there.

15:59 Tbilisi will not transfer weapons to Kiev, as it is afraid of becoming a party to the conflict, Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Thea Tsulukiani said: "The Georgian authorities will not allow the Georgian state to be involved in a military confrontation, respectively, of course, we will not be able to provide assistance military type of one of the sides of the confrontation. Moreover, as far as I know, we are talking about the transfer of such weapons that we bought."

15:33 The situation with power cuts will not improve after the end of the heating season, Dmitry Sakharuk, Executive Director of DTEK, said: “On the one hand, there will be a decrease in consumption, because it will be warmer, but on the other, planned repairs will begin, which are not being carried out now. And this means that, in principle, the volume of generation in Ukraine will not increase.”

15:27 The British Ministry of Defense denied reports of plans to supply Kiev with Apache combat helicopters. The Mirror previously reported this, but then removed the article.

15:22 In Dnipro, the death toll has risen to 25, including one child. 73 people were injured, including 13 children. 43 people are wanted , Zelensky said. 39 people were rescued, including six children. Search and rescue operations and the dismantling of dangerous structural elements are ongoing around the clock.

14:41 In the Tauride direction, the enemy is preparing to repel the Ukrainian offensive with the subsequent transition to a counteroffensive, Yevgeny Yerin, spokesman for the Defense Forces of the Tauride direction, said. According to him, in the Zaporozhye region there is a certain accumulation of enemy forces, but so far it cannot be said that he is preparing for a massive offensive.

14:15 There is a threat of S-300 strikes on Kiev, Yuriy Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said: "These missiles fly from a great distance and hit. The greater the range, the greater the inaccuracy. They applied this principle in Kiev ... The speed of the rocket S-400 - over 4,000 km/h, S-300 - over 3,000 km/h. These missiles were fired at - S-400 or S-300 (certain modifications). It was 1-2 minutes from launch to explosions. "

13:52 In the Kherson region, near Velyka Aleksandrovka, two people who were checking their fields were blown up by a Russian mine. Both died on the spot, said the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich.

13:19 The speaker of the Air Force, Yuri Ignat, said that reports of downed X-22 missiles that appeared in the past were erroneous. This is how he reacted to reproaches that Ukrainian air defense could have shot down a missile in the Dnieper. "I'll explain to make it clear. There were several such publications. Let's say, soldiers found fragments of Kh-22 in the field (and sometimes not even Kh-22, but fragments of another missile), they report upstairs: we shot down Kh-22! Everyone wants to race to report about it first on their resources. Without checking, without coordinating, and so on. The main thing is to be the first," Ignat said.

According to him, due to such haste, several false reports about downed Kh-22 and even S-300 missiles had previously entered the network through official sources. Ignat added that he had to constantly deal with such cases: "The information provided on official resources is generally true, but there are several untrue publications with "downed" X-22s, this is a fact."

The Air Force says Ukraine currently lacks the ability to shoot down Kh-22s, one of which hit an apartment building in Dnipro on January 14.

13:01 Putin said that "the dynamics of the special operation is positive, everything is developing within the framework of the plan of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff."

12:07 As of 11:30 am, 21 people died in Dnipro, including one child; 71 people were injured, including 13 children; 39 people were rescued, including six children, the President's Office reported. According to the GU NP, 40 people are wanted. Rescue and search operations are ongoing, fire fighting is also ongoing. About 3780 tons of destroyed structures and 39 damaged cars were removed.

11:44 PMC Wagner lost a quarter of its mercenaries in the battles near Bakhmut, writes the Financial Times, citing the estimates of the American authorities. In particular, during the fighting in the Soledar-Bakhmut sector, the PMC lost 4,000 mercenaries dead and 10,000 wounded. Washington estimates that the company employs 50,000 people.

11:40 The Russians have dealt another blow to the residential quarter of Kherson: according to preliminary information, two people were injured, said the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich.

11:18 During the 12th missile attack on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, the enemy tried to aim at the blocks of thermal power plants. Due to damage to equipment, they stopped or reduced electricity generation, and the deficit in the energy system increased, Ukrenergo reported. This made it necessary to reduce consumption limits in proportion to all regions. Limits are valid throughout the day, if they are exceeded, emergency shutdowns will be applied. For consumers, the duration of outages may increase.

10:35 On combat duty, Russia retains naval carriers with an unused stock of Caliber, therefore, the threat of a second strike on Ukraine remains in the near future, Natalya Gumenyuk, speaker of OK Pivden, said: "Yesterday we saw that they equipped five rocket carriers, including one underwater. "And they used Kalibr-type missiles during a massive attack. If yesterday there was a reserve of 36 missiles in the Black Sea, then about half of them were used during the attack, and these missile carriers remain on combat duty ... We must understand that they can still be used."

10:11 There are already 21 dead in Dnipro, one of them is a child. 73 people were injured, including 14 children. 38 people were rescued, including six children. 35 people are wanted, rescuers continue to work, said the head of the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Council Nikolai Lukashuk.

09:54 The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense warned that a comprehensive and large-scale stuffing of fake news by Russia is expected in the near future, aimed at undermining confidence in Ukraine from Western partners. In particular, the Russian special services plan to address Ukrainian journalists on behalf of popular Western publications with proposals to provide information on the state of the Ukrainian economy, the political situation in the state and the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Intelligence urges the journalistic community to carefully check the sources from which proposals for cooperation come.

09:37 In the Kherson region over the past day, due to Russian shelling, two people were injured, the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich, said.

09:28 According to the results of monitoring of open sources of information in Ukraine, 1647 Russian officers were officially killed, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, journalist Anatoly Shtefan said. Among them:

  • generals - 10;

  • colonels - 50;

  • lieutenant colonels - 116;

  • majors - 228;

  • captains - 320;

  • senior lieutenants - 532;

  • lieutenants - 276;

  • rank not identified - 115.

09:24 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, seven civilians were killed - four in Avdeevka, one each in Staraya Nikolaevka, Paraskoveevka and Kurakhovka. Four more people were injured in the region, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the OVA, said.

09:18 The British government announced that in addition to 14 Challenger 2 tanks, they plan to transfer another 30 AS-90 self-propelled guns, additional details will be announced on Monday, January 16th. The Ukrainian military will begin training on the management of Challenger 2 tanks in the coming days.

09:11 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Prigozhin, showing the actions of mercenaries in Soledar, advertises Wagner PMC and tries to denigrate Russian troops. In particular, he published a video in which he showed the commander of the Wagner group, who allegedly led the capture of Soledar, and praised Wagner's capabilities compared to the usual Russian military. Thus, Prigozhin, in particular, is trying to improve his political status. Meanwhile, Putin is trying to undermine Prigozhin's efforts to raise his profile in Russia, ISW analysts say.

08:42 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy as of the morning of January 15th.

  • personnel - about 115,290 (+630) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 3106 (+2),

  • armored combat vehicles - 6183 (+10),

  • artillery systems - 2094 (+4),

  • MLRS - 437 (+0),

  • air defense systems - 219 (+0),

  • aircraft - 286 (+0),

  • helicopters - 276 (+0),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 1872 (+5),

  • cruise missiles - 749 (+26),

  • ships/boats - 17 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 4846 (+0),

  • special equipment - 187 (+1).

08:31 Over the past day, the enemy launched three air and 57 missile strikes, made 69 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems, in particular, on civilian infrastructure. The Russians used S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles to launch rocket attacks on the capital and other settlements of Ukraine. They also carried out 41 launches of air and sea-based cruise missiles and guided aircraft missiles, which are high-precision weapons. 26 missiles were shot down, the General Staff said in the morning report .

06:09 Britain intends to transfer to Ukraine not only Challenger 2 tanks, but also Apache AH64 E attack helicopters, Mirror writes, citing a high-ranking source in the defense sector. The transfer of helicopters is planned after Ukraine receives Challenger 2 tanks.

01:12 An X-22 cruise missile hit a high-rise building in Dnipro, which cannot be shot down , the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said. On Saturday, January 14, the Russians fired five Kh-22 cruise missiles from five long-range Tu-22m3 bombers into Ukraine. The launches were carried out from the Kursk region and from the Sea of Azov. One of these rockets, launched from the Kursk region at about 15.30, hit a high-rise building in the city of Dnipro on the street. Embankment of Victory.

Radar facilities found the approximate launch site, altitude, flight speed. There is no doubt that it was the Kh-22 missile, no, the command noted. "The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have fire weapons capable of shooting down this type of missiles. Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression, more than 210 missiles of this type have been fired on the territory of Ukraine. Not a single one has been shot down by air defense means. The mass of the Kh-22 warhead is about 950 kg The maximum range is up to 600 km. When used from long distances, the deviation from the target can be hundreds of meters," the command of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained.

Only anti-aircraft missile systems, which in the future can be provided to Ukraine by Western partners (we are talking about such systems as the Patriot PAC-3 or SAMP-T), are capable of intercepting these air targets, representatives of the Armed Forces added.

Top 20 Most Cringeworthy Zelensky PR Moments
[CaitlinJohnstone] The US empire’s proxy war in Ukraine has had many jaw-dropping instances of imperialist sociopathy, propagandistic audacity and brazen journalistic malpractice that we’ve discussed in this space many times, but one of the most cringeworthy and degrading aspects of the globe-spanning narrative control campaign surrounding this war has been the way the nation’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has been turned into an ever-present corporate mascot for the most aggressive ad campaign ever devised. #2  It's shocking how many people who otherwise think and are skeptical have went along with this deep state operation 100%.

Cheering for the same people who cheated Trump out of the White House. The same people who weaponized the FBI and raided Trump's estate. The same people who slandered General Flynn. The same people who came up with the Russia collusion hoax.

But just say "Ukraine" and suddenly anyone who disagrees is clearly a Russian employee of the Internet Research Agency, a Russian bot, a Traitor, or better yet all three at once and is to be dismissed out of hand. And banned. All posts removed. Just to be sure the heresy does not infect the deep state's holy scripture.

Trichotillomania, also known as hair-pulling disorder or compulsive hair pulling, is a mental disorder characterized by a long-term urge that results in the pulling out of one's own hair. A brief positive feeling may occur as hair is removed. Efforts to stop pulling hair typically fail.

No matter air defense or not
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] The total number of deaths in Dnepropetrovsk as a result of a missile hitting a residential building has reached 20.

The Ukrainian media moved the record to "it doesn't matter - it was a Russian missile or an air defense missile is to blame - in any case, Russia is to blame."

Of course, if this was a real arrival of a rocket through a residential building, they would have turned a completely different barrel organ.

Well, it's all classic. As it already happened during the shelling of Poland and other hits on other residential buildings throughout Ukraine.

As shown by the media circus on blood, the victims in Dnepropetrovsk are just another consumable for the Zelensky gang.

As a result of "the work of the president of the world" many more people will die in Ukraine.

Says Russian blogger Donetsk:
A tragedy

[DONRF] The death of twenty civilians is always a tragedy. Especially when there are children among them. Even if it's an enemy. My condolences to the relatives of the dead and injured in Dnepropetrovsk citizens of Ukraine. Donbass knows how it is, Ukrainian shells and rockets killed and maimed thousands of DLNR civilians. And the number of victims is growing daily.

However, we do not kill enemy civilians. This is not ours, and that which is not inherent in us. In principle, what happened is understandable - there is a Western version, Ukrainian, and two adequate ones. Exactly the same as it was in Kremenchug. But let's start with the questions:

1. Why are people not evacuated there at the signal "Air Raid"? The signal was, the time was. Earlier, there were also attacks on the infrastructure of the Dnieper, military and industrial. Why? In the last war, there was a door-to-door detour, people were forced to go down to bomb shelters, water, electricity and gas were turned off ... But then the governments did not give a damn about citizens. Kievsky doesn't care.

2. Why there were explosions in the house. I don't believe in BC or self-detonation. But in gas cylinders completely. Just as in Kremenchug there are some tanks across the fence from the shopping center, so here - Ukraine does not care about the safety of citizens.

3. Why was the version of Arestovich, whom only a complete psycho would call a Muscovite, blurred and refuted? After all, if he is right, the next tragedy is inevitable. Maybe because on peaceful ... read above. And here having thought over it - it is possible and about versions.

The simplest is Ukrainian. Damn the Muscovites, wanting to kill all Ukrainians, sent 27 rockets to power facilities, and one to a residential building. Without fail in the Dnieper and without fail a Soviet socket in a residential area. In the Russian Dnieper, and not, say, in the ragulized Lvov, or the Bandera Rivne. They are such Muscovites - they don’t want to kill Raguls and Bandera, but Russians are only happy. Rave? Full. But ... why does a pig need normal food? There is slop. And in Kyiv they perceive their lackeys precisely for pigs.

Western version - the rocket hit. Without clarification. For writing Ukrainian nonsense - they will not believe it, but they will not understand the truth. So got it. There is nothing to argue with - something got into the house.

Well, the versions are sane:

1. Air defense missile. In general, this happened many times, the Poles will not let you lie. Missiles for the S-300 are rotten and expired, self-liquidators do not work. In addition, installations and calculations are placed within the city, and if a missile misses, it still hits. At home. The taller the building, the higher the chance.

That the inhabitants of Ukraine should take into account, and finally protect their lives. If you don’t feel sorry for the property, hide in shelters, if it’s a pity, merge the coordinates of air defense installations on social networks, forcing them to move outside the city limits. Against her says that the explosion was powerful. Very powerful. Although if oxygen cylinders of 150 atmospheres were stored in the house ...

2. KR was hit by missiles, went off course and hit the house. The most likely version. PPO pratsyue so to speak. Of course, there was only one explosion on the video, but the hit could have been earlier. S-300 missiles release a huge amount of damaging elements during an explosion, and even one, hitting a missile, can change its course. Arestovich's coming-out also speaks for her.

Cynically speaking, for Kyiv, the civilian population is freeloaders, their death is material for propaganda, but the energy facility is valuable material. Therefore, knocking a missile off course is a feat, and the death of civilians ... they will be given Western weapons.

3. The CD itself went off course. Strongly unlikely. At a speed of Mach 3. Is at startup, but there is a self-liquidator. And if something goes wrong, the crew applies it. Rockets are old, rather primitive, but reliable. And KVO 50 meters. That is to miss on more - in any way. There are no objects in the photo that could be hit.

Therefore, version two is correct. Less likely - version one. Glory to PPO. PPO strength. PPO works. And once again I express my condolences to the victims, and once again I invite the Ukrainians to think. head. To keep her head on her shoulders. Because your authorities provoked a war, and your corpses are beneficial to your authorities. Think. And over this, and over why, say, in Lviv, Rivne and Lutsk, air defense is OUTSIDE the cities, and the interception is carried out at 30-40 km. And you, in Kyiv, Dnipro, Krivoy Rog, Nikolaev - a little differently.

As for the human aspect - let's not be like them. We are people, and it is stupid and immoral to rejoice at the death of peaceful people.

From Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets:
Unexpected confession of Arestovich

[Chernovec] The speaking head of the Ukrainian side, Aleksey Arestovich, said on air that the fall of a rocket on a residential building in Dnepropetrovsk was due to the work of Ukrainian air defense, which shot down a target over a residential area.

F: That is, there was no opportunity to shoot down this missile in the Dnieper in an amicable way?

A: No, she was knocked down and she fell on the porch.

F: Did she fall on the porch?

A: Yes. But it exploded when it fell.

One of the entrances of the house collapsed. At the moment, it is known about five dead and several dozen injured.

It is obvious that the rocket was shot down from the flight path along the Pridneprovskaya TPP. The TPP itself is located literally opposite the place where the downed missile fell, across the mirror of the Dnieper River.

There have already been many cases when Ukrainian air defense works so unsuccessfully - in the capital, in Odessa, in Zaporozhye, in Kharkov. That is, the problem is that the Armed Forces of Ukraine deploy air defense in the urban agglomeration in order to hide behind residential areas and protect their anti-aircraft systems.

This is not the first time that this has happened, but for the Ukrainian side to so without equivocals and promptly acknowledge its participation in what happened - this has never happened before. I suppose it's all the fault of the live broadcast, when for some time Lucien's tongue inadvertently ran ahead of his own thoughts.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian TG channels are outraged that Arestovich voiced the truthful information and obstructed him.

“And how do we look now in front of the world community” - the Ukrainian CIP colonel “Shtirlitz” is clearly bombarded by the fact that Lucien confused all the propaganda cards for him.

Someone attacked Arestovich with a question, they say, "who needs this truth of yours ???". Ukrainians live in a world of illusions much more pleasant

And someone talks about the inevitable dismissal of Arestovich, due to the fact that a drop of truth slipped through his propaganda.

For the sounded and inconvenient truth, the mayor of the Dnieper, Filatov, has already called Arestovich a "garbage mouth."

Ukrainian publics are already frankly admitting that Arestovich thwarted and nullified the psychological special operation they so diligently torn apart in the form of dances on the bones of the dead residents of Dnepropetrovsk.

It's time for Prigozhin to prepare an evacuation group to Kyiv. To save Arestovich.

More from Chervonets:
Ukrainian officials are confused in their nonsense

[Chernovec] After Arestovich's words that the missile that fell on a house in Dnepropetrovsk was shot down by air defense forces, Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine "have no weapons capable of shooting down this type of missiles."

We are talking about X-22 cruise missiles. Back in the summer, according to official reports, they shot down Kh-22 missiles from everything they could.

Here is such a sudden reversal of the statements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from “we shoot down everything” to “we don’t know how to shoot down such a thing at all.”

However, the journalists recalled that this year the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially reported the downing of such missiles by air defense forces at least three times this year.

- On May 30, the Air Force claimed to have shot down such a missile over the Odessa region and showed its wreckage.

- On June 5, on the Facebook of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine it was said: "5 X-22s flew out, we shot down one"

- on June 29 they reported the defeat of an X-22 flying from the Black Sea.

- On July 1, the 101st security brigade of the General Staff in Kyiv reported that it shot down such a missile with the Igla portable anti-aircraft missile system.

Their reality is pathological nonsense. They are still wondering why they are not believed...

The Office of the President urgently needs to clean all the media from old news, otherwise Ukrainians will finally begin to guess that they are constantly being lied to.

Yet, more, again from Chervonets.
In Ukraine, they once again proved that the main value of political “Ukrainianism” is a lie.

[Chernovec] Now Kiev is trying to find wording to somehow justify the statement of Aleksey Arestovich on the air that a rocket falling on a residential building in Dnepropetrovsk is the result of Ukrainian air defense .

With his careless revelations, Lucien destroyed and nullified the long-established messages of his own official propagandists.

Yesterday, the office propagandists already stated that they have no ability to shoot down Kh-22 missiles, although earlier they have repeatedly officially said the opposite and often stated that they shot down this type of missile.

But the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN stated that the showdown with each other (that is, the showdown between Arestovich and the Ukrainian media) should be postponed until later, advising the speaker to coordinate his statements with official representatives in the future, in fact calling for lying in the same way, “otherwise we’ll burn.”

And in general, in “history, the air defense was shot down - the air defense was not shot down,” the agency believes, it is necessary to put an end to it, because. in any version, Russia should be to blame.

About "who is to blame" sounds interesting. For some reason, journalists modestly did not develop reasoning about cause-and-effect relationships further.

Let me remind you that there would never have been a conflict:

- if at least in February 2022 Ukraine had confirmed its neutral status and not joining NATO;

- if there had been no publicized Bandera-fascist propaganda in the country:

- if official Kiev had fulfilled the Minsk agreements;

- if there had not been a bloody Maidan in 2014, a race on it with malicious Russophobic slogans, there would have been no overthrow of the current legitimate president (who, for a moment, was chosen by the South-East of Ukraine as well) and the split of the country in 2014 (Odessa tragedy, bombings of Donbass, etc.), which was organized by those who are now counting all the goodies from the Ukrainian crisis from across the ocean.

Gunmen Kill One At Office Of Electoral Body, INEC In Imo, Southeast Nigeria
More Biafran nonsense, because peace and prosperity is boring.
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Some button men have again reportedly attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State, killing one person.

The button men numbering about 20 stormed the INEC office at Ahiazu local government headquarters in two SUVs on Saturday.

The hoodlums reportedly wore attire suggesting they were members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

ESN is the bully boy wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a secessionist group seeking to break away from Nigeria.

The hoodlums reportedly searched for INEC workers distributing permanent voter cards (PVC) but discovered that the officials were yet to arrive for work, Daily Post reports.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
when they could not find any INEC staff member, they reportedly beckoned on a vigilante identified as Ekene from Umuokirika Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, standing amid people who came to collect their PVCs.

When they could not force him into the boot of one of their vehicles, they shot him twice in the head and chanted 'no election in Biafra land', then zoomed off through Mbaise -Aba branch Road.

The dead body of the guard has been deposited at a morgue.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
efforts made by SaharaReporters to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, CSP Mike Abattam, were unsuccessful as he did not immediately respond to enquiries regarding the attack.
“Hey boss! Long distance phone call from New York — dude says he’s a citizen reporter for an internet news site. You got time to talk to him right now?”

Terrorists Camping In Anambra, Southeast Nigeria, Planning Invasion, Attacks On Communities, IPOB Warns
[TWITTER]

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that killer herdsmen chased out from Oji River in Enugu State have moved to some communities in Anambra State from where they will launch attacks on communities in the state.
Who chased the Fulani out?
IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, warned the people of Anambra to be prepared for what it described as the invasion of 'Fulani
... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity...
jihadists' into their state.

According to the secessionist group, "Intelligence information at our disposal has it that the Fulani faceless myrmidons a.k.a herdsmen chased out from Enugu State, mostly from Oji River Province, are trooping into Anambra to invade some unspecified communities there".

IPOB accused the Nnewi North Local Government Transition Chairman, Chris Obiora, of being the brains behind the influx of Fulani herders into the local government area.

It, therefore, asked the people of the area to hold Obiora responsible for any attack by Jihadists on any of their communities.

"The Fulani faceless myrmidons (herdsmen) trooping into Nnewi and Awka, who claimed to come for business are actually faceless myrmidons coming for attacks. Engr. Chris Obiora, the Nnewi North Transition Chairman, and his gang are the brains behind the influx of Fulanis to Nnewi North. These satanic agents being aided into Nnewi are coming to increase insecurity, kidnapping, raping of women, and terrorism.

"We want the sons and daughters of Nnewi North to hold their TC Chairman responsible for any Fulani attacks in any community because this man is working with our enemies."

IPOB also called on the state governor, Charles Soludo to watch the Nnewi North TC chairman closely and be ready to take immediate action "because he is importing faceless myrmidons to Nnewi".

The group noted that "Nnewi is in the heart of every righteous Igbo man and woman because it is the home of our eternal leader, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu".

"Moreover, Nnewi stands tall as a Biafran industrial revolution center providing a high level of employment to many Igbo youths. Nnewi is a very important and strategic place that needs to be protected. Any form of terrorist attack at Nnewi will be a big blow to Biafra and to Ndigbo in particular," the statement said.

IPOB further alleged that "the Fulani stooges called Engr Chris Obiora and Ethelbert Iheri are using Anambra State Vigilante Groups (AVG) in hunting and killing innocent members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB."

"We are reminding the criminal elements that we are watching them, and nobody should blame IPOB when we repay them with their own coin.

"Since Soludo formed the AVG group, we have not seen these vigilantes chase Fulani out of our farms and bushes. Instead, AVG is going after innocent citizens and IPOB members.

"This will be the last time we are going to warn them to stop abducting IPOB members," the group added.

It reiterated that "ESN and IPOB don't kill the people we are protecting, but those coming after us will kill themselves. Engineer Chris Obiora and his cohorts should restrain themselves from attacking IPOB members or face the consequences. We are not their enemies, and neither are we involved in any criminal activities.

"Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger and bigger. Finally it hit him...
IPOB worldwide is appealing to those having intentions to attack the Hausa community in Ihiala LGA to stop. Hausas are not the same as Fulanis. Hausas came into Igbo land for business while Fulanis came to conquer Igbo Land.

"As our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that innocent Hausas are free to do legitimate business in Biafra without molestation. We are not after the Hausas, but we are after invading terrorists. Governor Soludo, we appreciate your efforts to demand the release and surety of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and every IPOB member worldwide. Thank you.

"Gov. Soludo and every concerned Nnewi citizen should be prepared and ready to confront the invading faceless myrmidons because they have perfected plans to camp and later invade the state. IPOB will be willing and ready to work with those who are willing to secure our land from Fulani terrorists."

in coordination with Ottoman Turkish forces this week. The move is reportedly meant to prevent residents from attempting to cross into Turkey.

"Over the past few days, 150 HTS holy warriors were assigned to 22 border observation posts, starting from Zurzur all the way to Atma, in northern Idlib, and to Harem, in northwestern Idlib," an HTS source told North Press.

"This deployment is only the first phase and will be followed by more in the vicinity of Atma in order to prevent any attempted entry into Ottoman Turkish territories from Idlib," the source added.

"This move by HTS was carried out in coordination with Ottoman Turkish forces and border guards through communications and meetings in the last few days," the source noted.

According to the source, despite the high costs of smuggling, residents are continuing to enter Turkey due to the prevailing security chaos and poor living conditions in HTS-held areas.

The source stressed that these steps are the first of their kind, and reflect the extent of Turkey’s dependence on HTS in implementing its projects in the region.

Two government soldiers killed in eastern Deir ez-Zor
[NPASYRIA] Two soldiers of the Syrian government forces were killed on Sunday after an IED went kaboom! with their vehicle in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the government 17th division told North Press, "An IED was planted in an unpaved road near an outpost of the government forces in al-Mayadin desert, 40km east of Deir ez-Zor city. It went kaboom! when a military vehicle carrying logistics for the 17th division passed over it."

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the earth-shattering kaboom killed two soldiers from the 17th division, destroyed logistics and damaged the vehicle.

The government forces deployed troops at the blast site in a bid to search and find the perpetrators.

On January 8, a government officer was found dead days after he went missing the western desert of Deir ez-Zor.

Treasury Secretary Warns Congress US Will Hit Debt Ceiling Within a Week
[EpochTimes] Treasury Security Janet Yellen warned the United States is projected to hit its $31.4 trillion debt borrowing limit by next week, according to a letter she sent to congressional leaders on Friday.

In a letter (pdf) to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
...the GOP house majority whip. He replaces Eric Cantor, who got whupped because his politix are like Kevin McCarthy's...
(R-Calif.), Yellen wrote that according to projections, the country will hit the debt ceiling by Jan. 19. If that deadline passes without Congressional action to raise the borrowing limit, the Treasury would have to take "certain extraordinary measures" to avoid a default on its obligations.

Measures that could be implemented by the Treasury Department include temporarily redeeming existing and suspending new investments of the Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund as well as the Civil Service, Retirement, and Disability Fund. The Department would also suspend investment into the Government Securities Investment Fund of the Federal Employees Retirement System Thrift Savings Plan, she said.

"Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability," she wrote in a letter that will trigger discussions and new proposals in Congress on whether to pass a debt limit increase. Some Republican members of Congress have said they would agree to a bill to raise the debt limit to pass additional spending cuts.

Yellen noted that the Treasury cannot estimate how long the extraordinary measures will enable the federal government to pay its obligations but asserted "it is unlikely that cash and extraordinary measures will be exhausted before early June."

As of Wednesday, Treasury data showed that U.S. federal debt stood $78 billion below the limit, with the Treasury operating a cash balance of $346.4 billion. The department on Thursday reported an $85 billion December deficit as revenues eased and outlays grew, particularly for debt interest costs.

"It is therefore critical that Congress act in a timely manner to increase or suspend the debt limit. Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability," Yellen also wrote to McCarthy. Similar letters were sent to top Senate and House leaders.

WHAT IT MEANS
McCarthy and other top House Republicans have said he would tie actions to address the debt ceiling to spending cuts, although such measures may not pass in the Senate, where Democrats have the majority.

Yellen and other policy experts have called on Washington to eliminate the limit because it amounts to a bureaucratic stamp on decisions already made. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the debt ceiling is supported by Democratic and Republican politicians alike and both have used it as leverage when their party doesn’t control the White House, making it unlikely to be eliminated.

"REPUBLICANS CAN GET ALMOST EVERYTHING BACK ... BY SIMPLY PLAYING TOUGH IN THE UPCOMING DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS," former President Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
wrote on Truth Social earlier this week.

In a 2011 showdown, House Republicans successfully used the debt ceiling to extract sharp limits on discretionary spending from President Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
. Spending caps stayed in place for most of the rest of the decade.

#1  How about spending a lot less? You are all worried about 'climate change' that you push Zero Emissions. Its beyond time to start being concerned about 'economic collapse' and push a Zero Balance, can't spend what you don't take in.

Q:
How many times has Congress raised the Debt Ceiling?

A:
93 times in 106 years, since 1917,
or 24 times since 2000, the last 23 years.

I think LSD's and RINO's have a SPENDING ADDICTION.

Loudoun County attorney's office to no longer prosecute certain misdemeanors
[WashingtonExaminer] The Loudoun County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Virginia will no longer prosecute certain misdemeanor charges in an effort to crack down on more violent mostly peaceful crimes, according to a letter sent to local judges in late December.

Attorney Buta Biberaj announced her office would no longer prosecute certain misdemeanor charges beginning next week in an effort to allocate resources toward more violent mostly peaceful cases, she wrote in a letter to county judges on Dec. 30. Instead, certain misdemeanors, such as hit-and-runs and public intoxication, will be deferred to local courts and law enforcement.

Biberaj provided a list of misdemeanor crimes that would no longer be under her jurisdiction, including reckless driving, speeding, trespassing, petty larceny, underage drinking, failure to appear in court, noise complaints, and more.

The changes will take effect on Monday, and any misdemeanor crimes committed before that date are expected to be prosecuted by the OCA. In the meantime, the attorney’s office will work with local law enforcement to "provide trainings and guidance so that they are best prepared to present these cases to your courts," according to the letter.

US-led @coalition brings in military reinforcements to one of its bases in the countryside of Hasakah
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The US-led Global Coalition sent on Sunday military reinforcements to its bases in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

North Press correspondent said that the reinforcements consisted of 50 trucks that carried military vehicles and fuel tankers.

He added that the reinforcements entered the Coalition’s base at the town of Shaddadi, south of Hasakah city.

The Coalition’s base at Shaddadi is considered one of the Coalition’s most important in northeast Syria, given its strategic location which connects Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor Governorates.

The Coalition continue to bring in reinforcements to northeast Syria within the framework of its battle against the Islamic State

Power struggle in the Russian armed forces
[DW] Sergey Surovikin has been removed as head of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine and replaced by Valery Gerasimov.

General Sergey Surovikin was commander-in-chief of the "special military operation," as Russia still officially calls its war of aggression against Ukraine, for just three months. On Thursday, Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu demoted him to deputy commander. He will now answer to Russia's chief of the general staff, General Valery Gerasimov, who will take over the leadership of Russia's military in Ukraine — nominally, at least.

This is not the first restructuring of the Russian chain of command since the start of the invasion, but the timing is surprising, as Russia is making small military advances for the first time in months. Military experts are divided over the reasoning behind it. They say that Surovikin has not actually committed any blunders during his time as commander-in-chief in Ukraine. He is also said to be reasonably popular with the troops, and to be on good terms with political hard-liners. So why has he been replaced?

[FoxNews] Texas Department of Public safety arrested three men from Fort Worth after two illegal immigrants found in car trunk

Three Texas men were arrested near the Mexico border after a trooper pulled over their vehicle and discovered two migrants crammed inside the car’s trunk, authorities said Saturday.

The trooper made the traffic stop on Wednesday along U.S. Route 277 in Val Verde County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

During an interview with the driver, the trooper asked whether there was anybody in the trunk of the car. The driver does not answer on bodycam video the department released.

The trooper placed the driver in handcuffs and spoke to the two passengers inside the vehicle. When the passengers exited the vehicle, video shows both attempting to flee into the desert.

Both passengers were eventually caught, with one being Tased, the department said.

Officers popped the trunk of the vehicle and discovered two illegal immigrants stashed inside.

Authorities also found a handgun and meth inside the car, the department said.

The passengers were charged with evading arrest, while the driver faces charges of smuggling of persons, possession of meth and marijuana, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Texas DPS said the three men arrested were from Fort Worth but did not immediately release their names.

The migrants were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol.
