It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on testimonies of Tribal Sources. According to tribal sources, units of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias arrived in the last hours in the al-Masilah, coming from the city of Mukalla in the neighboring Hadhramaut province. The reinforcements come in the context of an Emirati plan to tighten its grip on the strategic governorate, especially as the STC began withdrawing its factions from Hadhramaut, following its failure to control the oil-rich province. The escalation of Emirati factions is expected to trigger a new round of direct confrontations between the Saudi-Emirati coalition factions in Mahrah, in the context of similar conflicts along the southern Yemeni governorates. Mahrah tribes have previously thwarted the STC’s attempts to deploy its forces in the governorate’s directorates, in light of a wide tribal resistance against the coalition forces and their factions. |
