Russia releases US Navy veteran quietly held for past 9 months
[IsraelTimes] Russia released a US Navy veteran who had been held in the country’s Kaliningrad territory for nine months, negotiator and former US politician Bill Richardson announced on Thursday.

Taylor Dudley had been held since April 2022 and was one of several detained Americans whom Richardson and US authorities have been seeking to have freed.

According to CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
, Dudley, 35, had crossed into Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania, from Poland where he had been attending a music festival. It wasn’t clear why he crossed the border or what he were tossed into the calaboose for.

"It is significant that despite the current environment between our two countries, the Russian authorities did the right thing by releasing Taylor today," Richardson said in a statement.

The release came one month after Washington swapped tossed in the clink
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout for US basketball star Brittney Griner, whom the US said had been wrongfully detained and imprisoned for possessing vape cartridges with cannabis oil.

In Dudley’s case, the US and Russian governments had not publicized his detention and Washington did not say he was wrongfully detained.

Richardson made no mention of any swap involved in his release.

He said a team from the Richardson Center, which has helped free detained Americans from a number of countries, had visited Moscow several times in the past year on Dudley’s case.

"The negotiations and work to secure Taylor’s safe return were done discreetly and with engagement on the ground in both Moscow and Kaliningrad and with full support from Taylor’s family back in the United States," the statement said.

"As we celebrate Taylor’s safe return, we remain very concerned for Paul Whelan and committed to continue to work on his safe return," Richardson said.

Whelan is a former US Marine who was arrested in Moscow in 2018 and then convicted of spying.

The US says he was a private citizen visiting Moscow on personal business, and has demanded his release.

He was sentenced in 2020 to 16 years in a Russian prison.

US efforts to negotiate his freedom as part of the Griner deal failed after Moscow demanded in exchange the release of a Russian former intelligence official imprisoned in Germany for assassinating an anti-Moscow Chechen man in Berlin in 2019.

Europe
Migrant entry numbers into Europe hit six-year high
[AlAhram] The number of attempts by migrants colonists to enter the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
without authorization reached around 330,000 last year, the highest number since 2016, the EU's border and coasties agency said Friday.

Almost half of the 2022 attempts were made overland through the Western Balkans region, EU agency Frontex said, according to its ``preliminary calculations.'' Regardless of entry route, Syrians, Afghans, and Tunisians together accounted for roughly 47% of the attempted border crossings.

Men accounted for more than 80% of the attempts to get in, Frontex said. The agency calculates entry attempts rather than the number of people trying to get into Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
because it is often difficult to identify migrants colonists, who routinely travel without passports, and some may try to enter multiple times.

People arriving at Europe's borders to apply for asylum have a reasonable chance of being allowed in, while those who come without a visa in search of jobs and better lives are mostly turned away.

Well over 1 million people, most of them Syrians fleeing conflict, entered the EU in 2015, overwhelming reception facilities and sparking one of the 27-nation bloc's biggest political crises.

Member countries still argue over who should take responsibility for people arriving without authorization and whether their neighbors and partners should be obliged to help. Attempts to reform the bloc's asylum system have made little progress.

Frontex's latest figures did not include almost 13 million Ukrainian refugees who were counted at the EU's external borders between February and December. Special emergency measures were introduced to ease their entry and help find them accommodation, training and short-term jobs.

The number of people making potentially perilous journeys across the Mediterranean Sea in poorly equipped and often overloaded boats and rubber dinghies continued to rise last year. Frontex said that well over 100,000 crossing attempts were recorded, around 50% more than in 2021.

The agency said that 2022 saw the most people in five years arrive from Libya, the main departure point in northern Africa. The number of people leaving Tunisia hit the highest level in recent history.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Reinventing History: U.S. Officials “Repatriate” Ancient Judean Artifact – to Palestinians
[LegalInsurrection] Paleostinian Arabs have zero connection to the artifact. Yet the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft

Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
appears to buy into Paleostinian myth that Arabs are the indigenous inhabitants while the ancient Jewish people never existed.

American law calls for repatriation of certain artifacts to Indian tribes, if "the requesting Indian tribe or Native Hawaiian organization can show that the object was owned or controlled by the Indian tribe or Native Hawaiian organization." That is, the Smithsonian would return a qualified Cheyenne artifact to the Cheyenne tribe. It would not return a Cheyenne artifact to, say, the Pawnee.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka to slash military by a third to cut costs
[DAWN] Sri Lanka will slash its army by a third to 135,000 personnel by next year and to 100,000 by 2030, the state minister of defence said on Friday, as the country tries to cut costs in the face of its worst economic crisis in more than seven decades.

"Military spending is basically state-borne expenditure which indirectly stimulates and opens avenues for economic growth by way of assuring national and human security," Premitha Bandara Thennakoon said in a statement.

The aim of the move is to create a "technically and tactically sound and well-balanced" defence force by 2030, Thennakoon said.

The size of Sri Lanka’s armed forces peaked between 2017 and 2019, with 317,000 personnel, according to World Bank data, higher even than that during the 25 year-long conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) that ended in 2009.

The share of the defence sector in Sri Lanka’s total expenditure peaked in 2021, at 2.31 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), but fell to 2.03pc last year, according to Colombo-based think tank Verite Research.

Recently, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered a five per cent reduction in state spending and his administration warned earlier this week that welfare payments for 1.8 million families below the poverty line could be delayed this month.

Sri Lanka needs to achieve debt sustainability as a precondition to secure a $2.9 billion IMF loan.

The lender has also asked Colombo to trim its 1.5 million-strong public service, sharply raise taxes and sell off loss-making state enterprises.

Key creditors such as China and India are yet to agree upon a "haircut" on their loans to the South Asian nation, which has stalled Sri Lanka’s efforts to restructure its debt.

Doubled personal income and corporate taxes kicked in on New Year’s Day to shore up state revenue.

Electricity prices are also rising another 65pc after a 75pc tariff increase in August.

Sri Lanka’s 22 million people endured months of food and fuel shortages, chronic blackouts and runaway inflation last year, inflaming public anger.

Wickremesinghe came to power in July at the peak of the crisis after his predecessor fled the country when protesters stormed his residence.

Home Front: WoT
GOP officially launches probe into chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal
[TheHill] A top House Republican has officially launched a probe into the Biden administration, the guys that caused the debacle in Afghanistan
...the collection of boodlers, grifters, hangers-on, and self-proclaimed experts affiliated with the Biden Crime Family. Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken requesting a wide array of information on the matter.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee who served as its ranking member previously, said the Biden administration has so far refused to hand over documents but that he is now formally requesting compliance as chair of the panel.

"It is absurd and disgraceful that the Biden administration has repeatedly denied our longstanding oversight requests and continues to withhold information related to the withdrawal," McCaul said in a statement. "In the event of continued noncompliance, the Committee will use the authorities available to it to enforce these requests as necessary, including through a compulsory process."

McCaul is seeking intelligence assessments, internal agency documents and communications with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
and Afghan government, among a long list of other inquiries in the letter Thursday.

He requested the information from the Biden administration by Jan. 26.

A spokesperson for the State Department said they were committed to working with the congressional committee and have already provided more than 150 briefings to bipartisan members of Congress since the withdrawal.

"Additionally, senior Department representatives have appeared in public hearings and answered questions on Afghanistan policy, and the Department has responded to thousands of requests for information and letters from members and their staffs related to Afghanistan policy," the spokesperson said.

Republicans have long hinted at the Afghanistan investigation, one of a number of probes the party planned to launch after seizing the House in the November midterm elections.

In October, McCaul demanded the State Department preserve records related to the U.S. troop pullout from Afghanistan, promising he would investigate messy evacuations, the quick Taliban takeover of Kabul and the death of 13 American troops in a terrorist attack.

The chaos surrounding the Afghanistan withdrawal was the focus of bipartisan scrutiny in 2021 as the U.S. exit was highly publicized, with photos and videos showing refugees scrambling to leave the country.

Last year, Republicans on the Foreign Affairs Committee released a report as minority members of the panel slamming the White House for sloppy planning, understaffing at Afghanistan’s largest airport and failing to anticipate the wave of refugees.

The White House responded that the report was "riddled" with inaccuracies.

Republicans are also expected to issue subpoenas to compel U.S. officials to sit for depositions in the probe led by McCaul.

McCaul on Thursday said he takes the obligation of investigating the withdrawal "very seriously" and will "pursue this investigation until all our questions are answered and all parties responsible are held accountable."

"We owe this to the American people, especially our service members and veterans," the politician said in his statement.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief January 13, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL CALLS ON TALIBAN TO REVERSE GENDER POLICIES – The UNSC met on Friday and released a signed statement from several members that demanded the Taliban reverse their discriminatory practices. The tone of the statement was remarkably harsher than in previous statements about Afghanistan. Predictably, Russia and China refused to sign the statement.

  • THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR SAYS DRUG TRAFFICKING REDUCED, NEIGHBORS DISAGREE – Hasibullah Ahmadi, head of the counter-narcotics department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that significant reductions had been made, but admitted that some Provinces continue to export opium. He claimed that nearly 4,500 people had been arrested for trafficking-related charges. Officials in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and India claimed that 2022 saw a significant increase in drug trafficking from Afghanistan. Some of this marked increase is thought to have been caused by the exportation of excess supply after the Taliban had swept into power.

  • AUSTRALIA CRICKET FIRES BACK AT THE ACB OVER CANCELLED MATCHES – The CEO of Cricket Australia responded to the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s condemnation of the canceled event, where the ACB expressed frustration that politics had influenced Australia’s decision. Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia, said in a riposte that “Basic human rights is not politics.” Human rights advocates celebrated his response.

  • TALIBAN SAY THEY WELCOME THE OIC CRITICISMS, SAY THE GENDER BANS ON EDUCATION ARE ONLY TEMPORARY – Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said on Thursday that the Taliban welcomed the remarks made by OIC members but warned against internal interference in Afghan affairs. He went on to say that the education bans were only a temporary measure and were prompted by a lack of capacity. However, statements made repeatedly by the Supreme Leader and others in the regime continue to espouse Deobandian principles and most observers see the excuses about capacity as merely an attempt to sidestep the problem. Ultimately, there are very few in the international community who trust the de facto regime.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Baghlan: 2 Resistance commanders were reportedly killed by the Taliban in a chance encounter last night in northern Baghlan province. Local eyewitnesses claimed they were shot within thirty minutes of their capture, and their bodies were desecrated. The men were identified as Commanders Yasin and Farid Ahmed respectively.

NEXT 24 HOURS
PAKISTANI SECURITY FORCES CONTINUE COUNTER-TERRORISM SWEEPS – In the run-up to the elections on Sunday in Karachi, Pakistani police and counter-terrorism organizations have been working frantically to ferret out several terrorist cells known to be operating in Sindh Province. Reports from local sources say some of these efforts have targeted Afghans because Police have been informed that at least 2 of the terrorist cells are TTP members who arrived from Afghanistan in the last two months. At-risk Afghans residing in the area can expect additional scrutiny from security forces until after the elections. It is advisable to avoid polling locations and public transport on Sunday if at all possible.

Daily Evacuation Brief January 12, 2023

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS

  • SUICIDE BOMBER TARGETS MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS IN KABUL – A suicide bomb attack near the entrance to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs occurred at approximately 1600hrs local yesterday. Casualty figures are in dispute with news outlets reporting between 5-20 were killed in the blast. An additional 20-30 were thought to have been wounded. The timing of the blast occurred during the area’s busiest part of the day. It is believed the suicide bomber was attempting to enter the Ministry but detonated his device when he was interdicted by security personnel. ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack on the group’s Telegram channel (Amaq news agency). No further information was available.

  • ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION ISSUES COMMUNIQUE CRITICAL OF TALIBAN REGIME – At the conclusion of an extraordinary session in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the OIC issued a statement condemning the Taliban’s stance on women’s education as well as the ban on women working on humanitarian aid projects. The committee called for a delegation of scholars to visit Afghanistan and engage with the Taliban at the ‘highest levels’. The statement signaled a veiled threat to the Taliban by reminding the regime the OIC expects its member states to abide by the OIC Charter. A report from any potential visiting investigative teams is expected at the next regular session. A source in the Ministry of the Interior claimed the OIC’s rebuke was expected but that the advisors who surround the Supreme Leader flew into a rage and referred to the OIC committee members as heretics. The source also said there were orders from Kandahar to try and suppress reports from the OIC meeting in the press.

  • HERAT POWER OUTAGES – The Afghan national power company reported that power had been cut off in Herat due to technical issues with the Turkmenistan transmission lines. An early report had suggested that a terrorist attack had targeted a portion of the line, but was dismissed as rumor later in the day. It is not clear when power will be restored.

  • STORMS CLOSE SEVERAL ROADS, SALANG PASS CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC – Heavy snow blanketed a large portion of the country and Salang Pass authorities closed the tunnel to all traffic yesterday. Previously, it had only been closed to large trucks. There are multiple accounts of stranded motorists from several Provinces and rescue crews have been working for nearly 72 hours to try and save people from exposure. Local officials are pleading with citizens to avoid travel in the interim.

  • TURKISH OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE THEY WILL DEPORT 5,000 AFGHANS IN COMING DAYS – Turkey’s Directorate of Migration began 2023 with a round of deportations and the Turkish government said that it had rounded up approximately 2,000 undocumented migrants between 1-5 January. The Department stated they intend to deport 5,000 Afghans in the next five days. Turkey is thought to have deported 120,000 refugees over the course of 2022.

  • IN AN ABRUPT TURN, TALIBAN REVERSES DECREE TO CLOSE WOMEN-OWNED SHOPS IN BALKH & BAGHLAN PROVINCES – In a possible reaction to strong public outrage, the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue Ministry backed off of a plan to forcibly close women-owned businesses in Balkh and Baghlan Provinces. The spokesman for the Ministry said that the shops will be allowed to continue operating in their current locations but they would be forced to move to another location at some point in the future.

  • SECRETIVE MEETING BETWEEN US LAWMAKERS AND FORMER REGIME LEADERS IN TURKEY CONCLUDES – Apparently, several Republican congressmen (or, their staff members) concluded a three-day meeting with the Council of Resistance in Turkey. Reportedly, they discussed the proposed investigation into the withdrawal (US role), strategies to hold the Taliban accountable, and how to recognize the Resistance. We have yet to determine who may have met with the Council members and if the trip was officially approved.

SECURITY OPERATIONS PLANNED FOR KABUL – After the deadly bombing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, a source with the Taliban Police said they had a lead on two ISIS-K safe houses in Kabul and a raid was being planned for today. The source could not provide locations for either of the residences. As always, we urge at-risk Afghans to avoid concentrations of Taliban security vehicles and if a security presence is observed in an area where they normally do not congregate, please leave the area or take cover

I guess that's why it is now called the "Y", instead of the YMCA.

They needed to eliminate the "C", which meant it was a place operated using Christian values.

Not, a WOKE, with an Open Door for Perverted PC values.

Maybe the LGBT? groups need to start their own GYM, or would that take the trill out of it for the Transgenders exposing themselves?

This response has to be bullshit. If they check the trans members for sex offenders, they would legally have to check everyone.

I don’t see anything Christian about having young women change with dudes. I think it is a good thing that the young woman outed the place for the gay bathhouse that it is. That should result in fewer young women sharing her experience and a drop in revenue for the WMCA’s across the country. I only have an issue if she keeps her membership.

Treasure trove of Jewish silver found near Holocaust ghetto site in Poland
[Miami Herald] As World War II began in Europe, Jews in Poland buried a treasure trove with hundreds of silver items. The treasure remained hidden for over 80 years, forgotten until now.

Construction crews in Łódź were excavating a street outside a tenement house when a worker noticed something unusual, the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Łódź said in a Jan. 3 news release. The construction crews immediately alerted local archaeologists. Buried in the ground were over 280 metal items, many plated in silver, found by archaeologists.

Some items, such as menorahs, had clear religious connections. These items, coupled with the estimated age of the finds, lead archaeologists to conclude Jewish people buried the treasure at the beginning of WWII.

Children's hospital gender program navigator touts giving uteruses from 'live donors' to trans women
[FoxNews] A Pittsburgh children's hospital is under fire after its gender program navigator advocated for helping transgender women get pregnant by giving reproductive organs to them from live donors.

In a presentation on "Fertility in the LGBTQIA+ community" last May that went viral this week, the community navigator for a youth gender program at the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital discussed the criteria the medical community uses for gender transition in adolescents, as well as a 2018 study on uterine transplants for transgender patients.

"One area that had not been looked at before in any serious way was could the donors be live donors?" Alicyn Simpson, who works with the hospital's pediatric Gender and Sexual Development Program, asked. "Live donation has been something the [transgender] community has talked about for decades, it was really thought about as magical thinking."

Simpson said that trans men "assigned female at birth" would discuss the possibility of giving their reproductive organs to trans females.

"Well I have these parts, but I don't want them. You want them, you need them. So what if I gave them to you? How would that work?' And apparently, based on their research this is actually viable," Simpson proposed.

Simpson, who described coming out as transgender 30 years ago, said the research revealed a majority of trans women "would choose to have female physiological experiences" such as menstruation and pregnancy, with the aid of a "vaginal transplant" and "uterine transplant."

"One of the main reasons I do the work that I do, is the desire to push us in that direction," Simpson admitted.

The video clips drew strong reaction on Twitter on Friday.

"There's something insidious about taking wombs from perfectly healthy young women and transplanting them into men," political commentator Ian Miles Chong wrote in response while sharing the video.

The American Life League, which bills itself as the nation's largest grassroots Catholic non-profit blasted the idea of transplanting reproductive organs to someone of the opposite biological gender.

"The uterus is not an accessory one swaps out like a handbag. Non-paired/paired organs can be transplanted because these are 1:1. The physiological differences in male/female reproductive anatomy make the transplantation of functioning, reproductive organs impossible," they tweeted.

Philosopher Peter Boghossian mocked, "an apex of social justice!" in response while several others called the idea a "Frankenstein" procedure.

On a 2014 video from the program's YouTube page, Dr. Jonathan Fletcher, who describes himself as the clinic coordinator at the time, revealed they treat patients as young as age 12.

"We're a center that provides comprehensive care for teenager and young adults between the ages of 12 through age 26," Fletcher says.

In Simpson's full presentation, the coordinator says that children at the onset of puberty who "come out" as transgender are "encouraged" to socially transition to their gender of choice.

"Mature minors can make these sorts of decisions, but we also want them to be sure," Simpson said, arguing that puberty blockers are "completely reversible" and "safe."

On their website, the center offers resources for parents and patients teaching them about the "gender unicorn" as well as "tips and tricks" on "tucking" and "packing" of patient's genitals as well as flattening breasts with chest "binding."

Virginia school administrators knew boy possibly had gun before shooting teacher: superintendent
[FoxNews] Administrators at Virginia's Richneck Elementary, the school where a first-grader shot his teacher last week, learned that the 6-year-old may have had a weapon in his possession before the shooting – but didn't seize the 9mm handgun he brought to his classroom.

During a virtual meeting, school system Superintendent George Parker told parents Thursday that a school official had been notified about the weapon before the student shot the teacher.

"At least one administrator was notified of a possible weapon in the timeline that we’re reviewing and was aware that that student had, there was a potential that there was a weapon on campus," he said, according to a clip of the meeting shared by WAVY-TV.

Michelle Price, a spokesperson for the Newport News public school district, told Fox News Digital in an emailed statement that the boy's backpack had been searched after it was reported the student might have a weapon, but that no weapon was found at that point.

"Dr. Parker did not indicate how the tip was received," she said.

The online meeting was for parents only but WAVY-TV reported the station gained access to the meeting from a parent.

Details about how they learned about the weapon and why it wasn't found before the shooting weren't immediately available.

Police previously said the boy had brought the gun to the Newport News school in his backpack.

Teacher Abby Zwerner was shot in the chest. While her injuries were initially considered to be life-threatening, her condition has improved and she was reported to be in stable condition.

No students were injured during this incident.

The Jan. 6 shooting occurred as Zwerner was teaching her class, with authorities saying there was no warning or struggle before the boy aimed the gun at the 25-year-old teacher.

Earlier in the day, Newport News School Board Chair Lisa Surles-Law said the district would install metal detectors at all schools, starting with Richneck.

Germany seeks Sudani’s support to deport Iraqi refugees: Minister
[Rudaw] Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz on Friday requested the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to help his government find a way to return tens of thousands of illegal Iraqi refugees living in Germany to their country, according to Iraq’s foreign minister.

An Iraqi top delegation, headed by Sudani, is in Germany to meet with the country’s officials. They met with a German delegation headed by Scholz, discussing a range of issues, especially energy and power.

Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s foreign minister, told Rudaw’s Alla Shally on Friday that the German leader requested Sudani to support them to find a mechanism to deport tens of thousands of Iraqis who are illegally staying in Germany.

"He said that 35,000-36,000 Iraqis [in Germany] do not have residency permits. He requested the Iraqi side to help him find a way to return these people to their country because they do not have citizenship or residency there [Germany]," Hussein said.

Sudani suggested that both governments draft a plan to deal with the issue, adding that the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
should be involved in the plan as well.

He elaborated that the drafting of the plan does not mean that Iraq will agree to take back the refugees.

Tens of thousands of mostly young people leave Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
annually in search of a better life, using people’s smuggling routes. A number of these migrants colonists die in freezing temperatures on the border and others drown in the sea. Many of them plan to arrive in Germany.

Some others used the English Channel to reach England but many could not survive the harsh conditions of the water.

MOU WITH SIEMENS
Sudani said during a presser with the German chancellor that his delegation signed a memorandum of understanding with the German energy giant Siemens to increase energy production, improve its transportation and reduce waste as well as maintaining energy stability.

"We have an understanding with Siemens in training and raising workers' efficiency to create an industry capable of securing the requirements of electric power transmission projects and providing job opportunities," he said.

His office later said that the Mou contains "several essential items that constitute an action plan for developing the electricity sector in Iraq."

"In light of the memorandum of understanding, Siemens is working, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, to develop an integrated plan for the electricity system in general, which includes solutions to problems. The company is also establishing new power plants," added the office.

of Iranian-British dual national Alireza Akbari on charges of spying for the United Kingdom’s intelligence agency and threatening the Islamic republic’s internal and external security, the judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported Saturday.

Akbari, an ex-deputy defense minister, was hanged for "corruption on Earth and for harming the country’s internal and external security by passing on intelligence" to the UK, Mizan said without specifying the date of his execution.

Mizan condemned Akbari for allegedly being a member of the UK’s M16 intelligence agency and for purportedly having a hand in the killing of top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh almost three years ago, repeating the same accusations previously issued against him.

Akbari’s execution came after he was found guilty of the charges brought against him for spying for the UK and the rejection of his appeal on Wednesday.

There are a number of dual and foreign nationals being held in Iranian prisons on charges of spying for foreign governments with rights groups accusing Tehran of using them as bargaining chips to gain concessions from world powers.

In its annual world report on global rights conditions published on Thursday, Human Rights Watch (HRW) slammed Iran for conducting unfair trials and obtaining confessions under duress, as well as for charges brought against dual nationals.

"Iranian courts, and particularly revolutionary courts, regularly fall far short of providing fair trials and use confessions likely obtained under torture as evidence in court," the report read.

"The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Intelligence Organization continued to arrest Iranian dual and foreign nationals on vague charges such as "cooperating with a hostile state," it added.

Government Corruption
Yes, Virginia, There IS a Deep State‐and It Is Worse than You Think
[Mises Wire] Mention the term "deep state" in polite company and most likely no one will want to speak to you the rest of the evening. The deep state is what Wikipedia calls "discredited," something reeking of conspiracies, false accusations, and the substitution of fantasy for the truth.

After the FBI raided Donald Trump’s home in Florida, Trump alluded to "deep state" actions, which brought predictable ridicule from the mainstream media. Trump was speaking conspiratorially, and if one follows the mainstream media these days, the only conspiracies are on the right. (You know, like the one in which the unarmed, ragtag January 6 rioters nearly overthrew the US government.)

After the recent revelations about how Twitter worked to hide the story of the infamous Hunter Biden laptop, Trump attributed the secrecy to a plot by the "deep state." However, while the facts of the story really are outrageous, I don’t believe it was as much a secret conspiracy as a case of people being able to engage in certain actions with no political consequences.

Furthermore, journalist Matt Taibbi’s stunning revelations regarding FBI and CIA agents’ outright interference in the 2020 election via Twitter on the pretense that Russian operatives were spreading disinformation has further exposed both the involvement of federal law enforcement agents in partisan activities and the sad fact that those agents need not worry about being held accountable—especially if they are engaged in a "progressive" cause.

THE STANDARD DEEP STATE NARRATIVE
One does not have to believe in a single conspiracy (not even about the 9/11 attacks) to understand that there really is what we can call a deep state. Indeed, what we might call the real deep state has nothing to do with conspiracies, secret meetings, and the like. Instead, this deep state operates in the open and in broad daylight, and that makes the deep state narrative an even greater threat than the secret cabal narrative.

When I was a young adult, I read a novel by two anticommunist journalists called The Spike, in which a young, liberal, and crusading journalist uncovers a nest of Soviet agents embedded in the US government. The journalist’s story on the affair, however, is spiked by his employer (a Washington Post—like paper), but the protagonist manages to get the story out elsewhere. The result is that a compromised president is brought down and the federal government is able to ferret out the Soviet agents.

Thus, in a dramatic moment, a motivated journalist and political allies expose the equivalent of the "deep state" and the US government makes a rightward turn. The deep state goes away.

Puntland forces join offensive against Al-Shabaab in Mudug region
[ShabelleMedia] Reports from the ancient coastal city of Hobyo, central Somalia indicate that Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
regional forces joined military movements against al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
The US-trained and funded Puntland security forces were spotted on the frontlines, arriving from Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug, which witnesses terror attacks in the past.

The troops have been deployed to the region to stop the al-Shabaab fighters fleeing from the ongoing army offensive in southern Somalia, who are trying to sneak into Puntland.

Puntland is on alert since the war on al-Shabaab started last year as the regional state has been dealing with the holy warrior group and ISIS-linked fighters in the Galgala hills for years.

The PSF commanding officers said they will contribute to the Somali-led campaign against al-Shabaab in Somalia, which President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared in August 2022.

The regional states in Somalia are all involved in the current war after losing patience with the al-Shabaab blockades and continued attacks that hamper the state-building process.

Nixon Threatened to Reveal the Deep State Involvement in the Kennedy Assassination
[Roger Stone] A stunning, long-overlooked Nixon Watergate-era tape shows Richard Nixon warning CIA Director Richard Helms that he knows of CIA involvement in the murder of John F. Kennedy- "I know who shot John."

This shocking new tape depicts Nixon increasingly besieged by Watergate but unaware that at least four of the Watergate burglars were still on the CIA payroll at the time of the break-in, and that the CIA had thus infiltrated the burglary team. Recently declassified documents reveal that Watergate Special Prosecutor Nick Akerman was aware of both the CIA’s advance knowledge and involvement in the break-in — but said and did nothing.

Senator Howard Baker, the Republican Leader on the Senate Watergate Committee and his counsel Fred Thompson himself, a future U.S. Senator from Tennessee, like Baker, stumbled on the CIA's deep advanced knowledge and direct involvement in the Watergate break-in. Baker and Thompson both knew that at least four of the Watergate burglars were on the CIA payroll at the time of the break-in and that through CREEP Security Director James McCord, had infiltrated the burglary team. Senate Watergate Committee Chairman Sam Ervin stoutly refused to allow Baker and the Committee Republicans including Edward J. Gurney of Florida the right to publish a Minority Report which noted this stunning information regarding the CIA.

Nixon deeply distrusted the CIA because he knew that President Eisenhower had ordered the agency to give top secret briefings to both Nixon and Kennedy after both were the certain nominees of their parties. Nixon was sore that Kennedy utilized the information in their debates, attacking Nixon for being "soft" on communist Cuba, knowing full well that Nixon had chaired a working group as Vice President overseeing preparations for the "Bay of Pigs" invasion. Nixon, of course, could not reveal this upcoming attempt to topple Castro in the details.

Senior ISIS leader killed in Somalia’s Puntland state
[ShabelleMedia] Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
has said that it has killed the head of ISIS operations in the Bari region, whose name was identified as Abu-Albara Al Amani.

A statement from the Puntland Police said that Abu-Albara was killed in an attack by the ISIS group on Wednesday night on the cop shoppe in Balidhidin district.

Abu Albara Al Amani was from the Amhara region of Æthiopia and he recruited many Æthiopians to join the ISIS-linked group in Puntland.

In July 2021, Abu Albara was appointed as the head of ISIS operations, after the former head of operations of that group, Abu Waleed al-Muhajir, was killed in an operation.

Al-Muhajir died in the raid by the Puntland security forces in the vicinity of the al-Miskaad mountains, as noted in the Puntland Police statement.

On the other hand, one Puntland Police officer was killed in the attack by ISIS on the cop shoppe in Balidhidin district, according to the statement.

Puntland faces a dual threat from al-Shabaab

Ex-army officer sentenced to death for role in Mogadishu bombings
[ShabelleMedia] The Court of the Armed Forces of Somalia has sentenced to death a former army official — Sharif Mohammed Barkhadle Ayanle for his role in Mogadishu blasts.

Ayanle was a member of the National Army for many years before being brainwashed and recruited by the bully boy group. He facilitated boom-mobileings that killed at least 27 people.

He was convicted of smuggling the IEDs-laden vehicles from the al-Shabaab

group to Mogafishu using his army ID and driving the VBIEDs to the intended targets.

The court said that he parked VBIEDs at the gates of several commercial areas in Mogadishu such as; Village Hotel, Afar Restaurant, Bar Italia, around Hamar-Weyne Mall, Cagaweyne Restaurant, Bilsan Restaurant, and other places in 2019.

He was also accused of selling two mortars and 40 rounds of ammunition to al-Shabaab that was later used for shelling Mogadishu.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Ali Noor Shute, the chairman of the Court Ayanle has 30 days to appeal against the verdict and if failed he will directly face the firing squad.

Ayanle, a 53-year-old ex-member of the army reached the rank of captain in the SNA and served since 2000, according to the military court.

Tucker Carlson & Greg Gutfeld's analyses of Biden's classified document mess are *chef's kiss*
[Twitchy] Yesterday Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the formation of a special counsel to look into the matter of Obama-era classified documents that were found in President Biden’s Wilmington garage and at least two other locations. Biden had previously reminded reporters that the documents at his home were secure because they were locked in a garage along with his Corvette.

On that subject here are two great videos.

First up is Tucker Carlson’s take on all this, and it’s perfect:

#1  I didn't hear that Trump's documents were in a SCIF, known to National Archives and the Eff Bee Eye, whereas nobody knew what Joe had where.

And as someone suggested here a few days ago, how did Joe get those documents out of a SCIF and into his garage? Who released those documents for Joe's perusal and never got them back?
Posted by: Bobby || 01/14/2023 7:57 Comments || Top||

#2  /\ Copies of briefing documents and classified finished intelligence products could have easily been made by senior staff members at Biden's request. Biden probably slipped them into his SCI pants pocket and couriered them home on the train.

I have not seen any reporting regarding the subject matter of the documents, which is key. I'm curious to know if Biden kept copies as a future insurance policy, or trading stock for a POS son who could not hold a job.

Somewhere in the cesspool of a White House is a Special Security Officer (SSO) whose job entails the inventory, maintenance, and storage of classified documents. Time to start asking some questions of SSO(s).

An 'Alex Jones' version might include the intentional passing of harmless classified documents (by the intelligence community) to the 'frequent flier' POS son to courier or sell to foreign intelligence personnel. That would put the POS son in the recruited 'intelligence source' category and pretty much immune from investigation.

* "Harmless" meaning... scheduled to be declassified, or erroneously classified.

If the right questions are asked, the truth will likely become known.

#3  Tucker makes sense. Biden is toast. The special counsel is definitely a slimy hack under control of bad people. Unfortunately for Joe, those people appear to be interested in getting rid of him. My point remains- you can’t be issued TS material in a way that allows you to bring them home. Two person integrity should prevent you from taking pictures of them or taking notes. The documents themselves are serialized and are under inventory control. This has to be a set up. Biden should go down, but this can’t be like McCarrick or Epstein/Maxwell. There should be a bunch of folks in Leavenworth to keep Joe company. Leavenworth is the standard for this stuff not a teaching chair at Columbia.

#6  Intel types would have more knowledge in the classified documents arena, but this is bothering me. At least at the end of the Biden regime any faked physical inventories would need to stop for a final accounting of the serialized garage documents. Not by Joe but by the person that issued the documents to Joe. The close out status would have either been “destroyed”which would be a demonstrably false and a felony. If TS material was accounted “lost”, there would have had to be a criminal investigation which would not have taken 5 minutes not six years. I think the docs were accounted as destroyed by someone that is going to jail with Joe.

US offers $10 mn for ‘mastermind’ of 2019 Kenya hotel siege
[ShabelleMedia] The United States announced Thursday it was offering a reward of up to $10 million for a man described as the "terror criminal mastermind" of a bloody hotel attack in Kenya four years ago.

It said it is seeking information on Mohamoud Abdi Aden, describing him as a leader of the Somalia-based al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
jihadist group that has carried out several deadly attacks in neighboring Kenya.

The al-Qaeda affiliated group grabbed credit for the January 15, 2019 siege on the upmarket DusitD2 hotel compound in the Kenyan capital Nairobi that lasted almost 20 hours.

At least 21 people bit the dust, including a US citizen, and many more were maimed. Kenya said at the time that all the assailants had been eliminated.

"Mohamoud Abdi Aden, an al-Shabaab leader, was part of the cell that planned the DusitD2 hotel attack," the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, told news hounds in Nairobi.

She said the US was offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest of Aden, described by the embassy as a Kenyan national, and others accused of involvement in the hotel siege.

The head of Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, described Aden as the "terror criminal mastermind" behind the carnage.

The State Department designated Aden a "specially designated global terrorist" in October last year.

Al-Shabaab has repeatedly targeted Kenya since it sent its army into Somalia in October 2011 to fight the Islamist Death Eater group.

In 2013, al-Shabaab laid siege to the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi for four days, leaving 67 people dead.

In 2015, an attack on Garissa University in eastern Kenya killed 148 people, almost all of the students. Many were shot at point-blank range after being identified as Christians. It was the second bloodiest attack in Kenya’s history, surpassed only by al-Qaeda’s bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi in 1998 which killed 213 people.

Al-Shabaab, which has been waging a bloody insurgency against Somalia’s fragile central government for 15 years, has been designated a terrorist group by the US since 2008.

In November, Washington said it was increasing its reward to up to $10 million apiece for key al-Shabaab leaders including "emir" Ahmed Diriye.
There were speculations all players in the attack died but Sherlocks have revealed Aden is still alive and was the criminal mastermind. He could be in Kenya or Somalia.

The offered bounty is historical and is likely to draw much attention. On January 15, 2019, al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
forces of Evil killed 22 people in an attack on the DusitD2 Hotel Complex in Nairobi, Kenya.

A jacket wallah self-detonated outside of a restaurant in the courtyard. Other terrorists, armed with automatic rifles and grenades, then sought to kill as many innocent bystanders.

They were however stopped by among others quick responses from various parties including security agencies. The attack began at 15:28 with a detonation of a suicide bomber, Mahir Riziki.

Four button men — Ali Salim Gichunge, Osman Ibrahim Gedi, Siyat Omar Abdi, and an unknown individual — then proceeded with the attack using AK-pattern rifles and grenades, targeting people within the DusitD2 Hotel and surrounding shops.

The terrorists’ images emerged in December 2020 when al-Shabaab released a seven-minute clip showing them preparing to attack the complex.

The attack resulted in 22 civilian deaths. The four button men also died in the attack.

Officials say the DusitD2 attack was carried out on a significant date, coinciding with the third anniversary of al-Shabaab’s overrunning of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) base in El Adde, Gedo region.

Suspects Mire Abdulahi Ali, Mohammed Hussein Abdile, and Mohammed Abdi Ali are facing at least five charges in connection with the attack where 22 people were killed and dozens maimed.

The charges include conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, aiding and abetting a terror act, committing fraud in the registration of documents, and facilitating a terror act.

The attackers had planned to stream the attack live on social media. Their plans were cut short by the swift response from security agencies and other parties. They were all killed a few hours later.

Kevin McCarthy Pledges to Release All Security Footage from January 6 Capitol Riots
[Breitbart] House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters Thursday that he intends to release all the security footage from the January 6 Capitol riots.
Sometime.
"I want to be very thoughtful about it, but yes, I’m engaged to do that," McCarthy told reporters when asked whether he would release footage from that day.

McCarthy continued:
I think the public should see what happened on that day. I watched what Nancy Pelosi did, where she politicized it. Where for the first time in the history as a Speaker, not allowing the minority to appoint to a committee. We watched the politicization of this. I think the American public should actually see what happened instead of a report that’s written on a political basis.

Over 250 bank accounts linked to Al-Shabaab closed down in Somalia
[Garowe] At least 250 bank accounts and 70 mobile money transfer firms have been closed down in Somalia over links to al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
Death Eaters, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said, just a few months after the country started the implementation of tough measures on financial institutions supporting al-Shabaab.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has declared war on financial institutions linked to al-Shabaab snuffies besides putting on notice social media accounts and news sites that promote the group's agenda as part of the new strategy to cripple the al-Qaeda-linked snuffies across the country.

Without giving specifications, Hamza Abdi Barre noted that due diligence had been done before the closure of the bank accounts which are linked to transactions of colossal amounts of money in aid of al-Shabaab Death Eaters. Money firms were also affected by the crackdown.

"We have managed to get hold of about 250 bank accounts and 70 mobile money transfer firms linked to al-Shabaab activities across the country," said the PM, who noted that the crackdown will continue. "We can't sit back and allow them to wreck our future for selfish gains."

According to the Somali Prime Minister, no business group should feel aggrieved because "we did monitor the transactions and we are aware of their direct links to the notorious group". The list of the banks behind the crimes was not immediately dispatched for scrutiny by members of the public.

Hassan Sheikh has activated a serious crackdown against al-Shabaab which includes targeting financial institutions behind transactions done by the al-Shabaab Death Eaters. A number of banks and mobile banking firms have been accused of abetting al-Shabaab monetary services across the country.

A report published by the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
established that al-Shabaab runs an annual budget of $100 million with over $24 million going for the purchase of sophisticated weapons. While most of the money is obtained through illegal taxation of businesses, the group also gets financial assistance from foreign elements.

In addition, al-Shabaab also benefits from money obtained as ransom through the kidnapping of wealthy people across the region. The money is used for payment of brain-washed fighters mainly vulnerable youths besides going to the group to run various departments such as the intelligence wing commonly known as Amniyat.

Last year, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud warned business people against supporting al-Shabaab financially either willingly or through extortion. Those found culpable of the offensive, he reiterated, risk having their trading licenses cancelled by the government.

With upgraded military operations and a strategy targeting financial institutions, al-Shabaab has scaled its own activities in Somalia. In the latest military operation, federal forces reportedly seized two vehicles they believe were going to be used for VBIED attacks by al-Shabaab.

The operation was conducted at a farm in the vicinity of Bal’ad town. Commander Abshir says they have seized explosives, which the group uses to target innocent civilians and members of security forces within the country and across the borders, with Kenya being a victim.

On Thursday [today], the Somali government called for a major rally at a Mogadishu stadium which President Hassan Sheikh will use to announce the launch of the ’Mogadishu Peoples Uprising’ [against al-Shabaab]. All government workers have been ordered to attend the rally and participate in the uprising.

Across the border, Kenya has increased surveillance to block the team from trading and targeting business people in their extortion racket which is after all losing significance. Several senior al-Shabaab leaders have either been killed or defected to the government following the ongoing operation in Somalia.

Closure of Afgan Women Businesses in Baghlan, Mazar Untrue: Taliban Minister
[KhaamaPress] The Authorities of the Ministry for Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan stated earlier today that the reports on the closure of women-run shops in Mazar-e-Sharif and beauty parlors in Baghlan are untrue.

Mohammad Sediq Akeef, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Vice and Virtue has said in a series of Tweets that rumors regarding the closure of women-run shops in northern Mazar-e-Sharif and beauty parlors in Baghlan are incorrect.

Mr. Akeef said that special efforts are underway to allocate a proper place for women vendors, however, until then these shops will remain in the same location.

Prior to this, the local media reported that the department of vice and virtue of Baghlan province had banned the operation of female beauty parlors. According to the reports, the IEA authorities had warned those beauty salons operating from their houses to abide by Islamic principles.

Furthermore, the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
authorities in Balkh province had given women street vendors one week to cease their businesses, otherwise, they will be treated accordingly.

This comes as the de facto authorities of Afghanistan have completely banned women’s university education and employment at government or non-government aid organizations in the recent past — accompanied by widespread condemnations and sparked protests in different parts of the country.

How the ruling regime emphasizes creating a pure Islamic environment for women and girls before they are allowed to go back to school, university, or the workplace. The implementation of the gender-based restrictions has already adversely affected the living conditions of thousands of families across the country, who are in dire need of humanitarian aid for survival.

Somalia announces ''uprising'' against Al-Shabaab
[Garowe] The people of Somalia will have an opportunity to express solidarity in the fight against al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
, the government announced on Tuesday, in what would be the first major protest against the group, which has been oppressing civilians and security forces for over 15 years.

Dubbed "Mogadishu People's Uprising", thousands of progressive forces are expected to line up in the streets of the capital Mogadishu on Thursday where they are expected to declare a major war against the bad boys. The government has been working closely with locals in the ongoing assault against the al-Qaeda-linked group.

In central and southern Somalia, locals have mobilized against al-Shabaab with the famous Macawisley militia leading from the frontline. The militia has been fighting alongside the Somali National Army [SNA], the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], and US Africa Command.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced "total war" against al-Shabaab when he took over in May 2022 and significant progress has been noted. Recently, the president reported that over 500 Lions of Islam have been killed through joint efforts as the military seized several "strategic" towns across Somalia.

In the process, the close collaboration between locals and security forces has seen several Lions of Islam mostly youths surrender to government forces, as some claimed that they joined the group after being "misled". The government is repatriating those who have bolted out of the terror group.

To fast-track the objectives of the uprising, the government has mobilized all civil servants to turn up in the streets and join the masses. The country is finding ways of directly involving civilians in the fight against holy warriors who are hell-bent on toppling the fragile UN-backed federal government.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has repeatedly maintained that al-Shabaab will not be defeated through a military approach alone, adding that there is a need to invest in the ideological front. This week, the government denied claims that it was intending to negotiate with the bad boys, concurring with the group which also refuted the allegations.

A recent report published by the International Crisis Group noted that al-Shabaab has scaled down recruitment following a sustained crackdown against them on all fronts. Intelligence reports also indicate that imported muscle are ditching the group and are looking for exit points to avoid arrests or deaths.

The government of the United States recently increased rewards for people who would give tips at al-Shabaab's revenue collection centers. Both the government of Somalia and its partners have unanimously agreed to target sources of revenue to further cripple the group.

It is projected that al-Shabaab is able to raise over $100 million from local revenue and well-wishers, with the majority of the share going to the purchase of weapons. Intelligence reports established that Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
is being used as the entry point for al-Shabaab weapons due to ongoing political conflict.

The al-Shabaab extortionists have been destroying oil wells, communication facilities, and other essential infrastructure to further frustrate a determined local population that is taking arms against them. In Mogadishu, the National Consultative Council agreed to prioritize the fight against al-Shabaab.

Although it is not clear if President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will attend the rally, he has, however, demonstrated leadership throughout the few months he has been in office. The group has lost its main centers to government troops and it is projected that the internal leadership crisis between Abu Ubaidah and Mahad Karate will cripple it further.

an appeals court on the island of Lesbos on Monday reduced his prison term to eight years, and the judge ordered his release based on the time he had already spent in prison and his good behavior.

The court was attended by several members of the European Union Parliament, who argued that Mohammed, a 29-year-old father of four, was wrongly sentenced.

"We are all in tears of joy, it was a very difficult day. The national prosecutor took a strong position and wanted the sentence to be maintained," said Stelios Kouloglou, a member of the European Union Parliament, who led the campaign, and spoke to AP.

"It is a very important decision because many people who are ordinary immigrants colonists are treated as smugglers," he said.

"Mohammed will be released from prison in a few days after his documents are prepared. Our next step is to advocate for the law to be changed."

Mohammed told the court that he only took the boat when he left a Ottoman Turkish smuggler who was smuggling people, and he took over to save the people on board.

Two people drowned in the boat, while 33 were rescued. Many of the survivors supported Mohammed’s claims, according to his lawyers.

At least two Yemeni civilians killed in land mine explosion

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] At least two non-combatants were killed on Thursday as a result of landmines explosion in Hodeidah province, western Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
Local sources affirmed that the landmines were left by the Saudi-led aggression forces earlier, the districts of al-Tahiyta and al-Durayhimi.

This crime came within less than 24 hours of the killing of three civilians, including two children, and the wounding of another, as a result of another mine explosion in al-Durayhimi district.

Since the beginning of the new year, more than 20 civilians have been killed and injured in a number of the provinces as a result of war remnants.

Yemen is witnessing an increasing number of victims of the aggressor's war remnants as a result of the widening area of contamination, in light of the coalition countries’ prevention of entry of mine detectors, and the failure of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
to pressure the coalition countries to enter these devices despite the continuous calls by the Executive Center for Mine Action.

Three police martyred in Peshawar terror attack
[GEOtv] At least three police personnel, including an officer, were martyred during an exchange of gunfire with faceless myrmidons who launched an overnight assault at a cop shoppe in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
, Geo News reported Saturday.

The faceless myrmidons attacked the Sarband cop shoppe located in the city's suburban area with hand grenades in the dark of night, leaving DSP Badaber Sardar Hussain and his two guards dead.

Senior superintendent of police operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi confirmed that the Sarband cop shoppe came under attack with grenades and sniper guns fitted with night vision thermal goggles.

The SSP Operations said the faceless myrmidons attacked the cop shoppes from two to three sides. He said that at least six to eight faceless myrmidons were involved in the attack. At least 12 to 14 coppers were present at the cop shoppe at the time of the attack, he said.

The SSP Operations said that faceless myrmidons lobbed five hand grenades into the compound of the cop shoppe. Four of the grenades were neutralised while one blew up, he said.

The police official said that the faceless myrmidons managed to flee after the attack. He added that the search operation had been halted and would recommence during the daytime in order to track down the attackers.

Police have repulsed the faceless myrmidons almost two hours after they attacked around 1am.

Police contingents arrived on the spot after the terror attack was reported. The police spokesperson said that the entire area was cordoned off following the assault.

Additional police contingents and armoured personnel carriers also rushed to the flashpoint.

Americans expect a military coup
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

We do? I’d think it more likely that Americans think recent changes in the military culture would make them considerably less effective were they to try such a thing.
[RIA] Recently, political publications in the United States have been filled with disturbing articles about the inadmissibility of the politicization of the army and its participation in showdowns within the country. Journalists write, experts speak, analysts frown.

#2  Most of America's military do not live in barracks or on posts/bases. They live among the local population. Many of the jobs performed on posts/bases were moved during the 70s-80s from uniform personnel to civilian hires who also happen to live off post/base. That general population is extensively armed itself. Someone is having daylight fantasies if they think something like this could be pulled off and sustained given that nearly all bases/posts are reliant upon outside energy and food sources across what would become 'Indian Territory'.

Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the release of Soledar
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation decided to put an end to the rumors about the one who stormed Soledar.

Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the release of Soledar.

In connection with media appeals regarding the composition and participation of various units of the Russian grouping of troops (forces) in the liberation of the city of Soledar of the Donetsk People's Republic from the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we deem it necessary to clarify the following.

Offensive operations in this tactical direction, which ended in the defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the capture of the city of Soledar, were carried out by a heterogeneous grouping of Russian troops (forces) according to a single plan and plan, which provided for the solution of a complex of combat missions.

These combat missions included, as already reported, blocking the city from the north and south, isolating the combat area, preventing the enemy from transferring reserves from neighboring areas to the city and preventing the exit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Soledar, as well as fire support for the attack by ground attack aircraft and artillery.

As for the direct assault on the city blocks of Soledar occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this combat mission was successfully solved by the courageous and selfless actions of the volunteers of the Wagner assault squads.

The right approach. Everyone is doing a common thing.

PS. Today, the fighting from Soledar has shifted to the Sol railway station, the fighting for which continues to this day. Part of the station has already been cleared of the enemy.

A CNN correspondent who was in the Soledar area reported that he saw retreating Ukrainian troops 4 km west of Soledar.

Also today there were fierce battles for Krasnaya Gora and Paraskovievka.

From regnum.ru:
In Soledar, a mother and children lived in a cellar for several months

[REGNUM] A resident of the city of Soledar in the Donetsk People's Republic lived for several months in a cellar with her children and was evacuated from the village on January 11 during the liberation of territories by Russian troops.

"We were taken out of Soledar on the 11th, we were in the hospital for three days. It’s hot in Soledar: we lived in a cellar, for the last two months the children didn’t go out at all," said the woman, whose story is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to the refugee, all four of her children were wounded by shell fragments. The woman said that the wounds were not serious, but the fragments had not yet been removed, as the doctors told her that the fragments would come out on their own.

She also noted that the children have a fever, and they will remain in the hospital, where they will continue to be treated.

As REGNUM reported , earlier the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the complete liberation of Soledar on January 12 by units of the RF Armed Forces. On January 13, police colonel of the Lugansk People's Republic Vitaly Kiselev said in an interview with TASS that elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to recapture Soledar from the Russian military, but the attack failed.

CDC identifies possible 'safety concern' for certain people receiving COVID vaccines
[FoxNews] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that a preliminary COVID-19 vaccine "safety signal" has been identified and is investigating whether the Bivalent Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine creates an increased risk of ischemic stroke in people 65 and older.

In the Friday statement, the CDC said that the preliminary signal hasn't been identified with the Bivalent Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

"Following the availability and use of the updated (bivalent) COVID-19 vaccines, CDC’s Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), a near real-time surveillance system, met the statistical criteria to prompt additional investigation into whether there was a safety concern for ischemic stroke in people ages 65 and older who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent," the CDC said.

"Rapid-response investigation of the signal in the VSD raised a question of whether people 65 and older who have received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent were more likely to have an ischemic stroke in the 21 days following vaccination compared with days 22-44 following vaccination."

According to the CDC, an ischemic stroke "occurs when blood clots or other particles block the blood vessels to the brain."

In the statement, the CDC pointed out that a large study of updated bivalent vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech "using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services database revealed no increased risk of ischemic stroke."

The agency also said that the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) managed by CDC and FDA has not seen an increase in reporting of ischemic strokes following the updated (bivalent) vaccine.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Pfizer said, "Pfizer and BioNTech have been made aware of limited reports of ischemic stroke that have been observed in the CDC Vaccine Safety DataLink (VSD) database in people 65 and older following vaccination with the Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent COVID-19 Vaccine by Pfizer and BioNTech."

"Neither Pfizer and BioNTech nor the CDC or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have observed similar findings across numerous other monitoring systems in the U.S. and globally and there is no evidence to conclude that ischemic stroke is associated with the use of the companies’ COVID-19 vaccines," the spokesperson continued.

"Compared to published incidence rates of ischemic stroke in this older population, the companies to date have observed a lower number of reported ischemic strokes following the vaccination with the Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent vaccine. The CDC continues to recommend vaccination with the Pfizer-BioNTech Omicron BA.4/BA.5-adapted bivalent COVID-19 vaccine for all authorized ages and indications."

The CDC isn't recommending a change in vaccine practice.

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel said that this isn't "proof" of a link between the vaccine and strokes.

"This is not proof. This is that they see there may be a link here, and they want to investigate it, and they're trying to be transparent," he said.

I quit waiting on the CDC to come forwarded real research data.

There are too many respected, International Medical Research Authorities, making the CDC look like a bad version of the Keystone Cops lead by the 3 stooges.

But, I am sure the CDC will eventually release something in a few more years.... likely after enough of the Gene Pool has been screwed up by mRNA and whatever agenda mission has been accomplished.

The NHS is not in crisis; it is in collapse. Excess deaths are running at alarming levels and can’t be explained away by the pandemic. The indicators for the health service are on red alert. Yet the political response is one of denial, disengagement, and delay. Workable solutions are absent. A healthy workforce is a prerequisite for a healthy economy (doi:10.1136/bmj.p22).21 By that logic the NHS has never been more important, but the tragedy is that the UK’s greatest asset is being burnt on the pyre of political ideology.

Armored vehicles from NATO countries predicted a short life in Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] On the eve of the next meeting of the Rammstein Group, several NATO countries announced the supply of light armored vehicles to Ukraine. The aid parties include new vehicles that have to be taken from the armies of the alliance states, since the old models already delivered have shown extremely low survivability in combat conditions.

The governments of the United States, Germany and a number of other states have announced the delivery of new batches of armored vehicles to Ukraine. It has been officially confirmed that the Ukrainian army will receive 50 and 40 Bradley and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, respectively. Also, photos of Canadian -made LAV ACSV Super Bison armored personnel carriers , already in the possession of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, appeared on the network. Probably, the American Stryker armored personnel carriers will also be included in the new supply package.

The very fact of deliveries is not news. However, the new package is accompanied by scandals in the press. The German magazine Spiegel claims that Germany will have to take the Marder BMP from its own reserve to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in armored vehicles, although the Bundeswehr is already facing a serious shortage of armored vehicles.

According to experts, NATO is forced, to its detriment, to supply modern armored vehicles due to the fact that equipment from previous deliveries has shown its vulnerability in modern warfare.

Supplied in the amount of several hundred M113 armored personnel carriers, the development of which began back in the 1960s, almost did not show themselves on the battlefield. According to the Lostarmour service, which records the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine based on photos / videos from open sources, the loss of nine such vehicles and 17 YPR-765 vehicles (Dutch modification M113) was confirmed.

According to experts, the limited use of these machines is due to the fact that they were designed for wars of the 20th century and do not meet modern requirements. The vehicle is extremely vulnerable due to its high hull, which is a convenient target for operators of anti-tank missile systems and other manual means of combating armored vehicles. Another disadvantage of American armored vehicles, which experts call, is narrow tracked tracks, which either get stuck in muddy conditions or fail when it gets cold: clods of earth clog into the tracks, freeze, and the car temporarily fails.

The VAB armored vehicles delivered from France also face similar problems. According to lostarmour, five such vehicles have already been lost during the hostilities.

According to experts, armored vehicles of this class were originally developed for military-police or peacekeeping operations, mainly in African countries. They are not intended for use in real combat operations and make their way even from a heavy machine gun.

These vehicles, like the M133, are also not designed for off-road driving and quickly fail in the field. Their use in conditions where the enemy has large-caliber artillery, tanks and anti-tank weapons can be compared with the use of police water cannons or tear gas in military operations.

British AT-105 Saxon armored cars can be attributed to the same “failed” deliveries , among the problems of which one can also include insufficient armor and, in general, moral obsolescence.

Experts suggest that the armed forces of the NATO countries, when planning military operations, did not, in principle, assume all the realities of military operations in Ukraine. This led to the fact that most of the NATO deliveries almost do not participate in the winter company - they have to fight on Soviet armored vehicles.

Will the supply of more modern American-style equipment solve the situation? It is highly doubtful.

In the case of the American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, experts call the same problems that the M113 vehicles have. This is a high narrow body and the severity of the machine. Despite the presence of a large number of on-board electronics, Bradley showed their worst side during the conduct of hostilities in Yemen.

Most of the vehicles shot down in the course of this company, due to their design, became prey for operators of Soviet-made anti-tank missile systems and received a missile hit on the side or under the turret. As a result, the United States put pressure on Saudi Arabia, demanding that they remove cars from the war zone and not cast a shadow on the American military-industrial complex.

It can be stated that the command of the NATO countries as a whole correctly assesses the weaknesses of its equipment, which is sent to Ukraine, however, even the supply of armored vehicles from the armies of the member states of the alliance will not change the situation.

Military equipment produced by NATO countries was developed taking into account the realities of local conflicts in the Middle East and Africa. This applies to the military products of the leading countries of the alliance - the United States, France and Great Britain.

Therefore, you should not expect that the same Bradley, Marder or Stryker will radically change the situation on the battlefield.
So, a woodland camo paint job, and heaters,...what else?

Al-Qaeda claims the death of the 14 soldiers in the center of Mali
AQIM claims the attack reported yesterday.
[AFRICANEWS] At least 14 Malian soldiers were killed and 11 injured on Tuesday in festivities with jihadists in the centre of the country, according to an army report on Thursday, an attack claimed by al-Qaeda with different figures.

The previous report communicated by officers of the army and the gendarmerie on condition of anonymity reported the day before at least 12 Malian soldiers were killed during these fights which took place between Mopti and Ségou after several attacks carried out against the army with homemade bombs.

"Enemy side", the Malian army claims to have neutralized "31 terrorists", in a statement sent to AFP.

The jihadists of the Support Group for Islam and Moslems (GSIM, JNIM in Arabic), affiliated with al-Qaeda, for their part grabbed credit for a " double ambush having targeted Malian soldiers and mercenaries from the Wagner group in the region of Mopti", in a blurb authenticated by the American NGO SITE, specialized in the follow-up of radical groups, consulted Thursday by AFP.

The first attack was carried out "with a mine" on the road between Tenenkou and Macina during which "an unknown number of Malian soldiers and Wagner mercenaries were killed and maimed".

It was followed by a second assault "with three bombs" between Koumara and Macina in which "five Wagner mercenaries and seven Malian soldiers were killed" and dozens of others injured", according to the JNIM organization which " recognizes the death of five deaders".

Some countries accuse the junta in power in Mali of having recourse to the private paramilitary company Wagner, reputed to be close to the Kremlin, which Bamako denies.

NATO Ramps Up Presence in Romania
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
will send a deployment of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) surveillance planes to Romania to "monitor Russian military activity" amid the Ukraine conflict, the US-led military bloc announced on Thursday.

In a statement, NATO said its "eyes in the sky" are expected to arrive in the Bucharest area on January 17, to strengthen the bloc’s presence in the region. Romania, which borders Ukraine, already hosts a number of NATO units, including the American 101st elite Airborne division.

The bloc did not specify how many planes will be stationed in Romania. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the German press agency DPA reported that NATO plans to deploy three AWACS there.

The AWACS planes will begin reconnaissance flights, which will take place only over the alliance’s territory, in the coming days, with their mission scheduled to last "several weeks." In addition, the surveillance mission will be supported by about 180 service members, who will be deployed at the Otopeni air force base near the Romanian capital, some 200km (124 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

The planes themselves are part of a fleet of 14 NATO surveillance aircraft usually based in Geilenkirchen in western Germany. These aircraft are equipped with long-range radar and passive sensors capable of detecting targets over large distances while staying in the air for hours.

The US-led military bloc has been conducting regular surveillance operations on its eastern flank, monitoring the conflict in Ukraine ever since Russia launched its military offensive against the neighboring state in February 2022.

The deployment of AWACS planes comes as a large number of US armor and military vehicles started to arrive in the Netherlands on Wednesday before heading out to NATO’s eastern flank, according to Rooters. In total, about 1,250 pieces of military equipment are said to be disembarking from the Dutch port of Vlissingen, US officials said.

On Monday, Nikolay Patrushev, the secretary of Russia’s national security council, stated that the ongoing Ukraine conflict "is not a confrontation between Moscow and Kiev, but rather a military stand-off with NATO."

Cholera outbreak in Malawi claims 750 deaths
Why so many people prefer living in a first world country with proper plumbing.
[AFRICANEWS] The cholera outbreak in Malawi, the worst in two decades, has reached the grim mark of 750 deaths.

According to Malawi's Health Minister, cases continue to rise across the country despite some encouraging signs in some areas.

"We continue to record rising number of cases across the country, despite signs of reduced transmission and deaths in a few areas. We would like to commend those that are availing themselves for treatment", said Malawi Health Minister, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda.

The cholera outbreak was declared in March last year. So far, the authorities recorded almost 23,000 cases.

"We received 2.9 million dosages of the cholera vaccine, but as we speak, we have about 40 thousand left. It means Malawians availed themselves for the vaccine. What is worrying however is that those that received the vaccine are not the ones at high risk. Those that are in high risk are proving difficult to convince to take the vaccine", added the Minister.

According to Africa CDC, the continent's largest public health body, 14 African countries are reporting cholera cases, many of which are due to flooding across the continent.

DRC: M23 pledges to pursue ''orderly withdrawal'', says Kenyatta
[AFRICANEWS] M23 rebels have agreed to continue their "orderly withdrawal" from conquered territory in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC), former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Thursday.

Uhuru Kenyatta, who plays a mediating role in this conflict and represents the group of five East African countries, spoke with M23 officials, according to a blurb by the former president released after of the meeting in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombassa.

"As a pledge of goodwill to work towards a settlement in North Kivu, the M23 leaders have agreed to continue their orderly withdrawal and to respect a strict ceasefire," Uhuru Kenyatta said in his statement.

"They also agreed to continue to respect and cooperate with the East African Regional Force (EAC) which has begun to take control of the areas from which the M23 has just withdrawn," said the former president.

These withdrawals of the M23 follow the decisions of a summit which, on November 23 in Luanda, had asked for a ceasefire and the departure of the rebels from the areas conquered for a year.

A predominantly Tutsi rebellion defeated in 2013, the M23 ( "March 23 Movement" ) took up arms again at the end of 2021, accusing Kinshasa of not having respected commitments on the demobilization of its fighters.

Its resurgence has reignited historic tensions between the DRC and Rwanda, accused of supporting the M23 and fighting with it.

Kigali denies it, accusing the Congolese army of collusion with a Rwandan Hutu rebellion established in eastern DRC since the 1994 Tutsi genocide in Rwanda.

"Woke up after a loud ringing in my ears. I tried to get up - but I can only get up on one leg, I don’t understand why; I look and see that there is no second leg," the woman recalls that terrible day.

Her son called in Russian military medics, who took the woman to Belgorod to be placed in intensive care and carry out an operation. The victim stressed that the shelling was carried out by the Ukrainian side, and the Russian military was not around at the time of that strike.

She remembers the Russian servicemen with gratitude - the soldiers helped with food and with the delivery of water to households.

The cleansing of Soledar and the outskirts by the forces of the Wagner PMC fighters continues. The footage of the wargonzo project shows the attitude of the command of the Ukrainian State towards its own soldiers and officers, sent "for meat" and, as a result, abandoned at the place of their death. This is a typical way of a "ZSU warrior" from receiving a summons in the park to a corpse in the Soledar basement.

14:05 Ukrainian troops fired five rounds with calibers of 122mm and 155 mm in five minutes in the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk, the DPR representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reported.

Today, the "Wagnerites" entered the territory of the urban-type settlement of Sol and established control over the depot of the railway station of the same name.

In the northwest of Soledar, active fighting is underway on the southern outskirts of Krasnaya Gora and in Paraskovievka near the Bakhmutka River. After the liberation of the railway station Sol, the village of Blagodatnoye was actually cut off from the supply lines from Seversk and Artemovsk.

The members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who survived in Soledar and its environs spread information about huge losses in manpower due to command errors. In one of the brigades in the company of the formation, only 30 people remained, and in the battalion of 24 Separate Mechnaized Brigade out of 300, only 100 fighters survived.

The leadership of the Ukrainian operational-tactical group "Soledar" assesses the situation as critical and expects the intensification of the offensive of Russian troops at the Berestovoye-Disputable line in order to reach the Seversk agglomeration, as well as in the south at the Ozaryanovka-Mayorsk line towards Druzhba and Dyleevka.

The release of Opytnoye allows you to start advancing on the southern outskirts of Artemovsk, as well as attacking the fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kleshcheevka from the east.

12:15 Residents of liberated Soledar tell about what happened in the city during the Ukrainian occupation.

11:20 How's it going sweep of Soledar:

A video appeared at the disposal of the wargonzo project, in which Wagner PMCs are located next to the Church of the Transfiguration at the intersection of st. Dachnaya and Preobrazhenskaya in the northeast of the center of Soledar.

Bassil Calls for Repatriation of Syrian Refugees

...arrogant, overbearing son-in-law of Michel Aoun, a Hezbollah suck-ass and wannabe Bashir al-Assad who plans on being president of what's left of Leb as soon as the old man's dead and the votes have been phonied up...
urged the Lebanese government on Thursday to put in place further measures to cut the number of Syrian refugees in the country.
Get'em otta here!
In an FPM conference on refugees, Bassil said that Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a formerly French, now an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. ...
must implement its plan to return the refugees and must apply local and international laws.

Bassil asked the international community to stop pressuring Lebanon, financing the displaced and making them scared of returning to their land.

"The international community must rather finance the safe return of refugees," Bassil said.

Lebanon has given shelter to more than 1 million Syrian refugees but many claim the number is far higher. The U.N. refugee agency has registered about 825,000 Syrians but stopped counting them in 2015 at the request of Lebanese authorities. Officials touted last year a plan to return 15,000 refugees a month, which has so far failed to materialize.

UNHCR says at least 76,500 Syrian refugees returned voluntarily from Lebanon since 2016, some in government-organized trips and some on their own.

Syria’s conflict that began in March 2011 has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced half the country’s pre-war population of 23 million.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan Becoming Pakistan’s New Nightmare
[KhaamaPress] With the unprecedented rise of terror attacks across Pakistain in the recent past, targeting army personnel, ISI officers, police officials, and ordinary citizens, the men in charge of security establishments in Pakistain are still blustering with no pragmatic approaches ahead.

Being a nuclear power in the world, and equipped with sophisticated American and Chinese weaponry, as well has to have 600,000 strong army, the country’s internal security is still at risk at the hands of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP) and other bad boy groups.

To help the Afghan Taliban to overtake power in Kabul was a miscalculation for the Pak government and politicians for many reasons. For years, the notion that the Afghan Taliban is somehow different from the Pak Taliban was instilled in the public through massive propaganda, although both are ideological twins.

On the contrary, Afghanistan’s de facto authorities taunt Pakistain and dismiss allegations of TTP hideouts inside Afghanistan. The many expectations that the Pak government had from the Afghan Taliban before coming to power are gradually fading away.

The back-to-back cross-border shelling which took place between Pak and Afghan border security forces in December in the Chaman-Spin Boldak area resulting in the death of security officials and ordinary citizens is a clear example of souring relations between Kabul and Islamabad. Apparently, Pakistain has created for itself a hostile neighbor and a nightmare.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
the TTP has its demands which obviously contradict the Pak constitution. The terror and chaos the bad boy group creates among the general public need to be dealt with using full force, however, the main question remains unanswered, what does the TTP want, and why should the relationship remain sour with Afghanistan?

A pragmatic approach to dealing with the TTP and normalizing the situation with Afghanistan should be a major priority for the Pak government. Removing border fencing and delegitimizing Pakistain’s claims on areas bordering Afghanistan is not something that would undermine the illusory sovereignty of Pakistain. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
it will pave the way for finding a comprehensive solution with the bad boy groups through negotiations instead of picking up arms, which failed to bear positive outcomes over the past years.

#1  Helping the Taliban seemed like a good idea at the time. Now Pakistan realizes that it was a bad idea. Now they have belligerents on their border.

So much for Muslim brotherhood.

Algeria, Turkey, France: who should apologize and what does Russia have to do with it
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Disputes about history between France and African countries are important, but applied value. Today, Paris has to develop a maneuvering strategy in order to maintain the remnants of its political and economic influence on the African continent.

It is difficult to name a specific reason that forced French President Emmanuel Macron to organize a “staged” interview with Le Point, in which he returned to the “Algerian dossier” and again refused to apologize to the Algerians for the colonization of this North African country in the 19th century.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: January 13th, 2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 22:33 Zelensky commented on the situation at the front in an evening video message: "The hard battle for the Donetsk region continues. The battle for Bakhmut and Soledar, for Kremennaya, for other cities and villages in the east of our state continues. Although the enemy has concentrated the largest forces in this direction, our soldiers protect the state."

The president also commented on internal squabbles in Russia: “Three hundred and twenty-four days of a full-scale war, and how everything has changed for Russia ... They are already squabbling among themselves over who to attribute any tactical advance to. This is a clear signal of failure for the enemy. And this is another incentive for all of us to put more pressure on the occupiers and to inflict even greater losses on the enemy."

21:35 Kuleba said that five countries are already ready to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine: “Our goal is to assemble a tank brigade from Leopards. This is for starters. Why a Leopard? Because this is a tank that has been produced in Europe for decades and there are in many European armies. Therefore, you can take a little there, take a little here, there are various modifications. But we set ourselves ambitious tasks, and our ambitious task is to assemble a brigade within the framework of a tank coalition."

21:29 The conflict between Wagner PMC leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense has actually entered an open phase. The defense department of the Russian Federation has recently been ignoring the Wagnerites in their daily reports, to which Prigozhin spoke of "intraspecific struggle and the theft of his victories." For more information about the conflict between the owner of a private military company and the command of the Russian army, see Steal "Victory" .

20:58 Italy decided to supply Ukraine with the SAMP / T air defense system, which is capable of shooting down ballistic missiles, RID reports.

20:20 The Ministry of Defense in 2023 plans to purchase various types of drones for 20 billion hryvnia, head of the department Oleksiy Reznikov said in an interview with UNN. Among the models that are planned to be purchased, including new samples of Ukrainian production, adopted over the past six months.

19:49 The "authorities" of occupied Berdyansk announced a "terrorist attack" allegedly carried out by "Ukrainian special services": the car of the head of the administration of the Kichigin district was allegedly blown up, the "official" was not injured.

19:35 In occupied Berdyansk, in the area of the airfield where the Russian military is based, three powerful explosions thundered, the head of the city military administration, Victoria Galitsina, told Suspіlny. A fire started on the spot.

18:58 The battles for Soledar continue , the General Staff said in the evening summary. The enemy continues to suffer losses. So, to fill the shortage of medical personnel, replenishment from among the military doctors of the RF Armed Forces arrived at the Novotroitsk Central District Hospital in the Kherson region. As of January 12, up to 160 wounded invaders were in the hospital, equipped as a military hospital.

18:46 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that the direct assault on the quarters of Soledar was successfully implemented by "the courageous and selfless actions of the volunteers of the Wagner assault squads."

18:42 The government has created the State Agency for the Rehabilitation and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, which will be created on the basis of the State Agency for Infrastructure Projects and the State Agency for Highways. Shmygal explained that this would optimize work processes and avoid chaos in planning and implementing projects. “We already know the sources of 110 billion hryvnias for restoration this year. We expect to accumulate six times more funds in order to restore more infrastructure and housing for Ukrainians already in 2023,” the prime minister said.

18:40 In the Kherson region, the resumption of electricity supply is a key problem, since the Russians have significantly damaged the power grid, said the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich. According to him, the Trifonovskaya solar power plant, which was stopped during the occupation, is being restored to provide power to residential buildings.

18:36 Ukroboronprom is finishing testing a drone with a range of 1,000 km, spokeswoman for the concern Natalya Sad said: "We have accelerated the production of the first sample as much as possible, tested it in the air and are preparing for the next stage - demonstrating the capabilities of this complex to the leadership of the Security and Defense Forces of our state."

18:29 Azerbaijan has handed over a second batch of energy equipment to Ukraine - these are 45 backup power plants with a capacity of 94 to 150 kVA, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.

18:15 The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, against the backdrop of heavy fighting in Soledar, spoke about the situation in the city, as well as how the reshuffle in the command of the Russian army will affect the front and when to expect a counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. More details in the material Losses and counterattacks .

17:49 Ukraine has already received 30,000 Starlink terminals, said Mikhail Fedorov, head of the Ministry of Digital Development. The last batch - 8,000 terminals - was bought by Poland. Hundreds of Starlinks from this party are already working in Invincibility Points across the country, some have been handed over to power engineers and doctors, the minister noted.

17:44 Shmygal said that Ukraine expects to pass the path of negotiations on joining the EU in less than two years. "The amount of work is colossal. At the same time, we see that our European partners are committed to productive cooperation on the issue of integration," the prime minister stressed. According to him, the visit in the coming weeks of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be a clear evidence of this. More than ten European commissioners are expected to arrive in Ukraine with her for intergovernmental consultations.

17:35 The enemy fired artillery from the village of Dvurechnaya, Kupyansky district, said the head of the Kharkiv OVA, Oleg Sinegubov. According to preliminary information, as a result of the shelling of private houses, two people were killed and another was injured.

17:29 The British government is expected to officially announce on Monday, January 16, the decision to transfer Challenger 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, writes The Guardian, citing sources in Kiev. We are talking about sending about ten tanks, which could push Germany to finally allow the re-export of its Leopard 2 tanks.

17:13 Russia has prepared regular recommendations for propagandists on covering the war against Ukraine. The new document, which Ukrainian military intelligence learned about, testifies to a radical change in emphasis in covering the course of events, as well as to the aggravation of the political struggle within the Russian Federation. According to the GUR, the general recommendations contain 11 points, the main meaning of which is:

  • focusing on information exclusively from sources agreed by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation;

  • emphasis in informational materials and comments of "independent" experts on the leading and positive role personally of Sergei Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov;

  • justifying strikes against Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure, citing the "forcedness" of such actions;

  • emphasizing the topic of providing Western weapons to Ukraine: in this sense, it is recommended to focus on the fact that "Russia is conducting a military operation not against Ukraine, but against the entire NATO";

  • refusal to mention PMC Wagner in a positive context - on the contrary, it is necessary to focus on excessive human losses and senseless attacks by PMCs;

  • tracking and citing publications in foreign media about the successes of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is proposed to focus special attention on the statements of Western and Ukrainian politicians, which can be interpreted in a similar vein.

16:42 Yermak said that the propagandists of the Putin regime should disappear as a phenomenon - "they are guilty of this war and will pay for it in full." According to the head of the OP, Russian propagandists, cultural figures and comedians are Putin's tools: "These people make money on lies and inciting hatred, on Nazism of the 21st century, but they want to live in the West. They buy real estate among those who are called to hate and kill. "Yes, they say to kill not only Ukrainians. But we know everything about them. We studied their way of life, found property, collected evidence of crimes. And we will do everything to deprive them of everything and punish them."

16:17 The situation on the Kinburn Spit remains difficult due to weather conditions, Pivden Yug speaker Natalya Gumenyuk said: "The operational situation is that the enemy from time to time leaves for positions from which he is shelling the opposite coast, but he constantly prevents him from staying there our counter-battery work. And that is why this work has not yet been completed, since difficult weather conditions ... Therefore, Ochakovites and residents of the Kutsurub community must be very careful and listen to air raid signals. "

15:56 Ukroboronprom is already engaged in the repair and maintenance of Western weapons, said the speaker of the state concern Natalya Sad. According to her, Ukroboronprom was able to increase the volume of repairs by five to eight times for various types of equipment nomenclature, the needs are increasing every month.

At the same time, Sade stressed that the ratio of national and foreign weapons is far from "50/50 and not 60/40": "We still continue to fight with the weapons that are manufactured, modernized and repaired by Ukroboronprom enterprises."

15:25 Ankara has changed its position on the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar said in an interview with Ukrinform. He recalled that Ankara's position began with talks about humanitarian truces and peace at any cost, but now Turkey clearly speaks about the need for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"In this context, the proposal was made that Russia should be the first to start a ceasefire, which could become the basis for further withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine. This is an attempt to find ways to dialogue, but not to impose a position. This is one of the proposals of the mediating country" - explained the diplomat.

14:39 Israel is transferring technologies related to smart missile and drone alert to Ukraine, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk said: "Work continues on the transfer of Israeli technologies related to smart missile and drone alert. That is, this technology is officially transferred by the Israeli side . And I think that after a while we will get it completely. "

14:06 The Verkhovna Rada has deprived Viktor Medvedchuk, Taras Kozak, Andriy Derkach and Rinat Kuzmin of their mandates due to the loss of citizenship. In addition, at its own request, the parliament deprived Andrey Aksyonov of his mandate.

Arakhamia said that the Verkhovna Rada is "cleansing itself of Putin's fans": "Today, ten deputies have lost their mandates. Six from the Opposition Platform for Life and four more from their political orbit. There will be even more. But in a legal and constitutional way. It is longer than we ourselves I would like to, but it doesn’t give collaborators a chance to appeal.”

13:42 Zelensky said that he had talked about further defense cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia with President Zuzana Chaputova.

13:39 The battles for Soledar continue, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are on the defensive , said the speaker of the Eastern Group of Forces Sergey Cherevaty: "Fights are going on in Soledar, our troops are holding the defense against the enemy, who has concentrated the best units of Wagner and other special units ... The enemy is deliberately dispersing the information noise, trying to sow disillusionment in one's own abilities among the Ukrainian population."

He explained that the positional warfare continues and the tactical pattern is breaking down in one direction or another: "The Armed Forces of Ukraine in incredibly difficult weather conditions and under enemy fire keep the situation under control."

13:35 NATO announced that it was sending Boeing E-3 Sentry long-range surveillance reconnaissance aircraft from Germany near Bucharest, Romania. They will fly over NATO territory for several weeks and monitor Russian military activities. Such aviation is capable of scanning a radius of 1612 km, detecting enemy aircraft, positions and targets.

13:26 Zelensky addressed the politicians and people of Lithuania on the Day of Defenders of Freedom: "This year is decisive. Now we need even greater mobilization - in the entire free world. This is the only way to end full-scale aggression, total terror ... And we We are very much looking forward to the Vilnius NATO Summit and we know that it can become a life-changing event for our entire Euro-Atlantic community."

13:17 In the Mariupol region, all mobilized Russians and part of the Russian military corps from the village. Yalta and with. Urzuf was sent to the front, to one of the directions in the north of the Donetsk region, said the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petr Andryushchenko. In addition, as part of the rotation in the village. Belosarayskaya Spit was placed by units of the "Dnrovtsy".

He also said that entry to Berdyansk is now exclusively with passes. The tightening of control is probably associated with the formation of a base, in particular helicopters, directly near the city.

12:33 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that the capture of Soledar was completed on the evening of January 12. The Russian ministry noted the actions of the Airborne Forces units, without mentioning the PMC Wagner in a word.

11:44 Reznikov said in an interview with the BBC that both Ukraine and Russia are preparing for new offensives in the spring. In particular, the Russian Federation is trying to gather forces for the offensive from the areas that it has already occupied in the south and east. He also noted that Ukraine has already become a de facto member of NATO, as it receives Western weapons and understands how to use them. The minister is convinced that Kyiv will receive "tanks, combat aircraft or jets, as well as long-range weapons to hit targets 300 km away" because the attitude of Western countries has changed.

According to the minister, Russia daily loses 500-600 of its soldiers in battles, while Ukraine loses "a tenth" of this number. Reznikov believes that Prigozhin in Soledar is interested in possible economic benefits from the capture of the city, where the largest salt mines in Europe are located. At the same time, he is not interested in losses.

11:17 As of the morning of January 13, electricity consumption is at the level of yesterday, there is a shortage of power, especially in the morning and evening periods, Ukrenergo reported. At the same time, gradual warming is expected throughout Ukraine as early as the weekend, as a result of which a decrease in consumption is predicted. To ensure balance in the energy system, consumption limits have been brought to all regions, which are valid from 02:00 to 24:00.

11:08 Near Bakhmut, four Russian criminal authorities, released from the zones, have already died. The leaders of organized crime groups are buried as heroes on the Walk of Fame, and their surviving accomplices can be delegated to the State Duma . Lesser status bandits are buried without special honors, and their corpses are transported by truckers.

According to the channel We can explain , among the dead authorities are the leader of the Penza organized crime group, the leader of the Saratov killers, the former leader of the organized crime group from Tatarstan, the killer from the Ossetian gang. All of them were sentenced to 19-25 years, including for murder.

10:47 Russians at night fired at the base in Kherson, where utility buses are parked. As a result of the shelling, 16 buses and cars, warehouses and a security building were damaged. According to preliminary information, one of the guards was injured. Also, fragments of shells damaged the power grid, said the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich.

10:21 France hopes to deliver AMX 10-RC tanks to Ukraine within two months, Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said after a conversation with Reznikov.

10:15 According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the scale of mobilization measures in the Russian Federation testifies to the Kremlin's plans to create an army of about 2 million people. The GUR recalled that during the first wave of mobilization, 300,000 people were drafted into the RF Armed Forces. After a short training, the mobilized are sent to the war zone in Ukraine.

The military intelligence of Ukraine does not rule out that the Russian leadership will announce another wave of mobilization in the coming days - another 500,000 Russians will get into the RF Armed Forces, which will allow the enemy to create strategic reserves. Russia is already actively preparing for the announcement of the next wave of mobilization. At the legislative level, changes are made to the laws governing the conduct of mobilization. There is also an active preparation of training centers.

09:38 In the Kherson region over the past day, one person was killed due to Russian shelling, two more were injured, the head of the OVA, Yaroslav Yanushevich, said.

09:33 British intelligence reports that the Russian defense sector is likely resorting to the use of prison labor to meet the needs of wartime production. For example, in November, Uralvagonzavod, Russia's largest tank manufacturer, announced after a meeting with the Federal Penitentiary Service that it would hire 250 prisoners. Russia has a long tradition of prison labor, but since 2017, forced labor as a separate criminal punishment has been re-legalized.

Prisoners represent a unique human resource that Russian leaders can use to support the “special operation,” while willing volunteers are still in short supply, analysts say.

09:25 After the start of the war, 320,000 residents left the Luhansk region, said the head of the OVA Serhiy Gaidai: "We can say that until February 24, there were about 720,000 residents in the territory of the Lugansk region controlled by Ukraine. Of these, 320,000 left for evacuation" . According to him, people left for Russia, partly for Europe, but the vast majority settled in those regions of Ukraine that were not directly affected by the war.

09:18 The enemy is moving additional reserves to the Kremenskoe and Svatovskoe directions. Almost all the houses in the surrounding settlements are occupied by the Russian military, said the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are advancing, so collaborators are gradually moving to cities and villages away from the front line. The Russians, meanwhile, dress up in the uniform of the Ukrainian military and, through provocations, are trying to break through the defense. Gaidai believes that the Red River should not become a serious obstacle to the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

09:12 In the Donetsk region over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, two civilians were killed - in Blagodatnoe and Avdeevka. Two more people were injured in the region, Pavel Kirilenko, head of the OVA, said.

08:59 Anna Malyar said that in Soledar, Ukrainian forces are trying to hold the defense: “The night in Soledar was hot, the fighting continued. The enemy sent almost all the main forces to the Donetsk direction and maintains a high intensity of the offensive. This is a difficult stage of the war, but we will win."

08:28 The General Staff announced the approximate losses of the enemy as of the morning of January 13th.

  • personnel - about 114,130 (+740) people liquidated,

  • tanks - 3098 (+4),

  • armored combat vehicles - 6167 (+8),

  • artillery systems - 2086 (+4),

  • MLRS - 437 (+0),

  • air defense systems - 218 (+0),

  • aircraft - 286 (+1),

  • helicopters - 276 (+0),

  • UAV operational-tactical level - 1865 (+0),

  • cruise missiles - 723 (+0),

  • ships/boats - 17 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tankers - 4833 (+7),

  • special equipment - 184 (+0).

08:19 Over the past day, units of the Defense Forces repelled attacks by invaders in the areas of the settlements of Stelmakhivka, Makeyevka and Belogorovka of the Luhansk region and Disputed, Razdolovka, Salt, Krasnaya Gora, Podgorodnoye, Bakhmut, Kleshcheevka, Predtechino, Kurdyumovka, Vodyanoye, Nevelskoye, Krasnogorovka, Maryinka and Bolshaya Novoselka, Donetsk region, the General Staff said in a morning report .

It became known about the order of civilian overalls with the logos of Rosneft and Elektrostal for the personnel of one of the divisions of the Russian Federation operating in the Novopavlovsky direction in the Volnovakhsky district of the Donetsk region. Obviously, for a specific purpose, the enemy is trying to hide his belonging to the Russian occupation forces, the General Staff notes.

05:44 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that Russian troops likely control most of Soledar, if not the entire city. At the same time, analysts emphasized that the capture of the entire city would not be an important event in operational terms and hardly portends the imminent encirclement of Bakhmut. According to ISW, Ukrainian forces no longer maintain organized defense in Soledar.

04:22 The United States is working to neutralize the activities of PMC Wagner around the world, said State Department adviser Derek Cholle. At the same time, he pointed out that the PMC seeks to recruit mercenaries from different countries, including Serbia, and "this cannot be allowed."

03:27 Italy will hold a conference on the restoration of Ukraine. Presumably, it will take place in March 2023, said the Italian Minister for Enterprise and National Production, Adolfo Urso. According to him, "a big conference on restoration issues is being prepared, which will bring together Italian and Ukrainian institutional authorities and business structures around the same table."

02:33 The US Department of Defense does not confirm that Soledar was captured by Russian forces, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said: "We are indeed seeing intense and heavy fighting around Soledar, as well as Bakhmut, which is located relatively close. We cannot confirm any reports that Soledar was taken by Russian forces... We know that the Ukrainians continue operations in the vicinity of Soledar and continue to fight back."

More information about what is happening in Soledar, as well as expert forecasts, is in the material Depart or stay .

00:45 Losses of Russian troops near Bakhmut and Soledar can reach 20 thousand military men, Podolyak said in an interview with Channel 24: "It is impossible to say exactly what losses the Russian army has in this direction. But it's not a thousand or two - it's 10, 15 or even 20 thousand for the entire time of the offensive near Bakhmut and Soledar. They don't count losses there."

According to the adviser to the head of the OP, the Russians threw almost the entire combat-ready army at Soledar, including the remnants of the contract army - special forces and landing forces. At the same time, Podolyak stressed that the possible occupation of this Ukrainian city would not give Russia advantages in general: "The only thing I'm sorry about is the number of our guys who, at 17 degrees below zero, have to keep machine guns in their hands for days. It's hard. We are losing our own" .

00:13 Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets spoke about the results of negotiations in Turkey with Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova: “For the first time, the Russian side left with proposals that we previously discussed. There is no breakthrough, but at least technical work has begun. We are exchanging lists, information. We are working on the missing separately. There are already cases when our citizens and heroes who were considered dead, the Russian side confirmed that they are alive - 23 of our guys. This is a huge positive."

#7  In the service I worked in a job where I was custodian of a library of classified publications. I chose a couple of enlisted folks that I trusted to help me. I was on a tender at the time so we didn’t really need a lot of the publications that we had. I guess there was the possibility of having a staff embarked, but it didn’t make much sense really. Anyway, one thing that we did frequently was inventory our library of unnecessary publications and the very few that were checked out were part of the inventory process. All the staterooms had small safes on our ship so it was possible to check out and store Confidential material for use or study. We checked out pubs to the bridge and CIC while we were underway and removing them was part of our return to port check sheet. My memory of this is vague as these are mundane details from very long ago.
My meandering point is that this whole story sounds like Alice In Wonderland stuff. You can’t store TS material like it is a tote of HR stuff from a job you left. All copies are serialized and routinely inventoried. Proper handling and storage is verified. If these are original copies then there ought to be enough people guilty of felonies to fill Joe Biden’s wing of Leavenworth with dozens of companions. Hopefully a couple of Secret Service agents will be implicated so that he can have some protection on the inside. He needs to ensure that they install a soft serve machine there while he still has presidential powers.

#9  OK. Hunter didn't carry paper copies of these documents to all of his sleazy foreign connections. No, no certainly not! They were all scanned into digital files and copied onto thumb drives. Only question is: How much did he get for them?

#10  And Hunter paying $50,000 a month rent on a $6,000 a month house? Can you say money laundering? I think you can. And the outrageous prices for his "art"? More money laundering.

#12  Nothing will come of these Biden documents. His own lawyers are permitted to do the searching as if they are on the same side of the legal team as the DOJ. Contrast that with the raid on trump with his lawyers not permitted to remain at the raid.

Europe
Poland Changes Its Defence Concept Based on Russia's War against Ukraine
[European Pravda UA] Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and his deputy Wojciech Skurkiewicz talked about this in an interview with Polish outlets.

"We will focus on the defence of every meter of our land. We are moving away from the doctrine that operated for years during the current opposition. We believed then that we could start our defence along Vitsula and we would withdraw from the eastern borders without a fight. This can lead to such tragedies as we saw in Ukraine in Bucha... We have to be strong, in fact, very strong in the eastern part of the country because this is the main frontline of our security and independence. We know who is a threat to us. Our goal will be to effectively restrain the enemy, if necessary - to take the fight to the east of our country, on our borders," said Mariusz Błaszczak.

He added that in the current realities, one should forget about Poland's need for a small professional army and that it makes sense to withdraw to Vistula for defence.

Reznikov about battles in Soledar: Up to 500 Russian troops killed, wounded every day
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Ukrinform] The Russian forces are attempting to capture Soledar town because they want to gain control over the road to Bakhmut, which the invaders have been unsuccessfully trying to seize for several months.

Defense Minister of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov said this in an interview with BBC, Ukrinform reports.

According to Reznikov, the Russian forces are trying to capture this town in order to gain control over the road between Soledar and Bakhmut
A 10km trek.
, along which they will be able to relocate their equipment and units to Bakhmut. They stopped near Bakhmut and took some of their units away from it to Soledar, Reznikov noted.

He reminded that the Russians have been trying to capture Bakhmut for more than four months, but they have no success. Therefore, they seek to launch a powerful attack with the help of Wagner Group mercenaries, airborne assault units and other units.

At the same time, the minister emphasized that Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their positions. "The situation is very difficult but under control," Reznikov said.

When asked about the losses, he said that the losses of the Defense Forces of Ukraine were much lower than those of the enemy, stressing that approximately 500 Russian troops are killed and wounded every day.
The Ukrainians have withdrawn from the city center to the railroad tracks on the western edge bordering salt mine #7. The Russians control the city proper and the Ukrainians are no longer in threat of encirclement.

#1  Fairy tale. Fake news for the west. Wagner main force and the tunnels underground prized target. US military equipment even tanks travel these huge tunnels. They have stuff stored from WW1. The rush is on for Bakhmut 100 mile underground tunnels a treasure trove of nearly everything. Bakhmut a name not Russian but Ukrainian. There again Wagner figures to play a major part. Wagner's future throughout the world is the long term goal. Wagner group gaining too much popularity in the minds of Russian military.

#2  Can't believe Reznikov. Can't believe Dale. There is no telling how many have died so far in this war or how many are yet to die. It's not like Reznikov was out there counting corpses himself and he wouldn't tell the truth even if he had.

What kind of war is it? Oh, right. The kind where people get killed.

Proofs that Wagner terrorists are wearing UAF uniform
[TWITTER]

Edited. Commentary by the poster:
There are other videos from Soledar showing dead Wagner troops wearing Ukrainians uniforms. Won't link to those videos.
One video shows a Wagner wearing Ukrainian uniform and a GoPro encounter two Ukrainians in a foxhole. Tells them to surrender. Ukrainians don't understand he is Russian and say you are on our side. One is armed and too slow to put weapon down. Shoots both of them in the face.

The main thing for the day. Friday, January 13
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[LB] Battles for Soledar, enemy shelling of Kupyan region, deprivation of mandates of five pro-Russian People's Deputies, Freedom Award from the Lithuanian Parliament. How will the 324th day of the full-scale war be remembered.

Battles for Soledar continue , the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

We will remind, in the statements of the Russian military, the occupiers have already "taken" Soledar twice this week. The Armed Forces replied that the battles for the city continue, the defenders are resisting the enemy.

During the day, the Ukrainian aviation carried out nine strikes on the concentration areas of the invaders, and our units of missile troops and artillery hit the control post, six areas of concentration of manpower, one anti-aircraft missile complex and three ammunition depots of the enemy.

Today, Russia launched two missile strikes on the civilian infrastructure of Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region, as well as eight air strikes on the positions of our troops. It carried out more than 40 attacks from rocket salvo systems.

The Russian occupiers struck the village of Dvorichna in the Kupyan district with artillery.

Oleg Sinegubov, the head of the Kharkiv OVA, said that, according to preliminary information, two women aged 59 and 64 were killed as a result of shelling of private houses.

Another 63-year-old woman was injured and was hospitalized.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke during the solemn meeting of the Seimas of Lithuania on the occasion of the Day of Defenders of Freedom and the awarding ceremony of the Freedom of the Republic of Lithuania award.

"I am glad to welcome you and I want to thank you right away for not betraying freedom for a single moment. And not only during these 323 days of the cruel, inhumane Russian war, when we constantly feel your support. And for many years, when the free hearts of Lithuanians and the Lithuanian path to a united Europe inspired many people in various countries, once enslaved by Russia," said Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

We will remind you that recently the president of Lithuania called on Western countries to give tanks to Ukraine.

Today, the Lithuanian Parliament presented President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Freedom Prize.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta received the award on behalf of the head of state.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda emphasized that this is also an award for the entire Ukrainian people. According to Nauseda, Zelensky inspired the leaders of Western countries to do "at least a little more" to end the war.

The Verkhovna Rada stripped the mandates of five pro-Russian deputies - Viktor Medvedchuk, Taras Kozak, Andriy Derkach, Renat Kuzmin and Andriy Aksyonov.

People's deputy of the "Golos" faction, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, informed LB.ua about this. According to him, the voting "took place with a scandal from the very morning": deputies were stripped of their mandates after three votes and blocking of the tribune.

In 2022, the level of trust in almost all institutions increased sharply in Ukraine . The Armed Forces of Ukraine remain in first place, trust in which has increased from 72% to 96%.

This is evidenced by the survey results of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

Next comes trust in the president and trust in volunteers. In December 2021, 27% trusted the president (and the balance was negative -23%, that is, there were more people who did not trust than trusted), but in a year the indicator increased to 84%, and the balance is currently +80%. In the case of volunteers, trust increased from 68% to 84%.

Confidence in the SBU (from 29% to 63%) and the National Police (from 30% to 58%) also increased significantly.

The perception of the government and the Verkhovna Rada has also improved significantly.

Today, January 13, the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine (NOC) expelled Hryhoriy Surkis and Nestor Shufrych from its membership.

In addition, Zhan Beleniuk, the Olympic champion and People's Deputy from the Servant of the People faction, was excluded from the NOC.

We will remind you that in November 2022, Surkis and Shufrych were elected members of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, which caused a great public outcry.

The most complete picture of today is on our website. We hope that there will be more good news tomorrow.

Polisario Front members meet in Algeria to discuss leadership electionsVolume 90%
[AFRICANEWS] Polisario movement members are meeting this Friday in a refugee camp in Algeria to discuss leadership elections.

Morocco controls almost 80% of the resource-rich territory and has proposed an autonomy plan under its illusory sovereignty.

The Sahrawi Polisario Front, backed by Algeria, has called for a referendum on self-determination.

More than 2,200 members of the movement and 370 foreign guests are expected to attend the five-day congress.

The rift has already led to the diplomatic breakdown of relations between Algeria and Morocco.

The Polisario's current head Brahim Ghali, 73, appears to enjoy the vital backing of Algeria and is expected to be re-elected at the gathering

The conflict in Western Sahara dates back to 1975, when colonial power Spain withdrew from the region, sparking a bitter 15-year war between the Polisario and Morocco for control of the territory.
