3 tons of munitions destroyed in Bazian
|
SULAIMANI — The General Directorate of Mine Action in Sulaimani said on Thursday (February 11) that it conducted a controlled explosion to dispose of three tons of mines and ammunition in Bazian sub-district.
Mine removal teams have been dismantling and removing mines in the area for more than six days, the directorate said in a statement.
It said that the amount of unexploded ordnance found in the sub-district included 242,000 pieces of ammunition and eleven mines and planted bombs.
On February 1, a mine disposal technician was wounded when a VS50-type mine exploded during the process of mine clearance in Sharbazher.
