Heavily-armed members of far-right militia Boogaloo Bois march on Michigan police station calling for release of man who 'shot at SWAT team' during 36-hour stand-off
It is not clear to me how it got to the point that police surrounded the house — elderly parents dealing with PTSD they aren’t equipped to understand, elderly parents abusing a unsuccessful son who at 32 is still living at home, paranoid man who collected guns and finally scared his parents into calling the police for help — and neither the Daily Mail nor the internet has clarified the situation for me. Certainly the Boogaloo Bois are not being helpful, since nobody challenged Mr. Shafie’s rights as he acquired his collection, and in the current situation more is at stake than his right to have them.
[DailyMail, where American gets its news]
  • Omar Shafie,
...a decidedly Arab name, though it doesn’t look like that is the issue here. A search of the internet suggests his full name is Omar Saad Shafie of Livonia, Michigan, a very Arab suburb of Detroit, and Ann Arbor, which is not...
32, was arrested after he barricaded himself into his parent's home and allegedly fired several rounds at SWAT team

  • In a jailhouse recording posted to social media by his girlfriend, Shafie claimed his Second Amendment rights had been infringed by police

  • On Sunday, heavily-armed Boogaloo Bois marched on Ann Arbor police station calling for Shafie's release

  • Members of the Boogaloo Bois have been linked to two murders in California in 2020, and the attempted kidnapping of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer

The incident that sparked the protest began in the early hours of March 24 when Shafie's parents called police to say their son was suffering from a mental health crisis and had assaulted them at their home in Superior Township, Michigan.

Around 50 members of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office including a SWAT team, crisis negotiators and sheriff's deputies responded to the rural address.

Sheriff's deputies brought the parents to safety, but Shafie refused to leave the house.

He was armed with multiple weapons, was wearing a flak jacket and had rounds of ammunition strapped to his body, according to a local news report.

Several shots were fired by Shafie during the encounter, which lasted well into the following day.

Since his arrest, Shafie's girlfriend has disputed that he was suffering from a mental health crisis, and that police had infringed on his Second Amendment rights.
Jeremiah Harding’s website popped up when I searched Mr. Shafie’s name. He lays out the girlfriend’s claims about the police and Shafie’s feud with his parents here, with links to her Facebook posts. The girlfriend, who has a Facebook page under CylieJean Yacura though her real name was reported in one of the Daily Mail’s sources as Cylie Johnston, also has a #FreeOmar Facebook page here. Ms Cylie claims Omar is a veteran, but does not explain why Omar and his parents have been feuding.

-War on Police-
Chauvin - Day 6 - Chief Throws Chauvin Under the Bus
[Mail - AKA cum grano salis] Minneapolis police chief says Chauvin should 'NO WAY' have kept motionless George Floyd pinned down by neck, and used 'unreasonable' force against him, in damning testimony
OTOH - Defense makes chief eat words... and by the way, the judge previously banned the Mail for publishing restricted material
Related: Defense counsel casts doubt on placement of Chauvin’s knee: Chief Arradondo agreed that Chauvin’s knee appeared to be on Floyd’s shoulder blade, not his neck, in video captured on former officer Alexander Kueng’s body-camera.

#2  Branco's take on day six: Money quote:

The testimony of Dr. Langenfeld has followed what has become a common pattern in this case. The (carefully prepared?) state’s witness is carefully questioned by the state to illicit headline worthy quotes, but it’s ultimately revealed on cross-examination that those quoted opinions were based on extremely limited information, lacked context of the full circumstances, and were gutted on cross-examination as a result.

This pattern actually raises a very interesting, and alarming, public policy danger, based on the media’s coverage of this case. From what I’ve seen of media coverage, which for me occurs only when the case recesses during the day and the talking heads pop up during the break, is that the media effectively only covers the direct questioning of the state’s witnesses. As a result, the public only hears the state’s version of the facts.

Well, just like if you only hear one side of any argument, it’s natural for the public to conclude that the state is KILLING IT!!!! in this trial, and that it’s SUPER OBVIOUS!!!! that Chauvin is a RACIST POLICE MURDERER!!!! You NAZI!!!!

#4  Floyd's was a 'victimless crime'...no? Officer Chauvin's pending conviction (for whatever prescribed criminal act involving death) will calm and asswage the anger of the chanting tribal hordes. Some of them do vote you know and they can wreck uncontrollable havoc if not appeased. Officer Chauvin has already been convicted by he media and victim community. The courtroom imprimatur is pending. Notice how the term "officer Chauvin" is used almost as infrequently as the term 'fair trial'.

Meanwhile, the 34 shot in Chicago over the Easter Holdiday are selectively forgotten. 'Selective enforcement of the law' requires selective memory. Coincidently, Hunter Biden cannot remember the laptop either. You know the rest of the story.

Sadly, this is no longer America. It is now something else entirely. New songs will be sung, new flags will fly. Whatever it is, it has yet to be named, but surely will be.

Afghanistan
SIGAR: Narcotics Remains a Primary Source of Taliban Income
[ToloNews] A US watchdog in a report released last month says that 40 to 60 percent of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
’s revenue comes from narcotics.

The US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in its report cites a meeting with Resolute Support officials in February 2018, saying that "a bigwig from the Resolute Support Counter Threat Finance Cell estimated that between 40 to 60 percent of the Taliban’s revenue comes from narcotics trafficking."

SIGAR also quoted a UN report as saying that Afghan officials estimate Taliban income from narcotics between June 2018 and June 2019 to be approximately $400 million.

The primary sources of income for the Taliban remain narcotics, illicit mineral and other resource extraction, taxation, extortion, the sale of commercial and government services and property, and donations from abroad, SIGAR says.
According to SIGAR, the UN report also notes that the Taliban now controls all aspects of narcotics production, which likely indicates that their total revenues are even higher.

SIGAR quotes a UN Security Council report from June 2019 as saying that the Taliban continue to adapt and expand their ability to maintain and generate financial revenues to support their operations.

The primary sources of income for the Taliban remain narcotics, illicit mineral and other resource extraction, taxation, extortion, the sale of commercial and government services and property, and donations from abroad, SIGAR says.

The Taliban rejected their involvement in the drugs and narcotics trade, but Afghan officials said the group has been involved in the illicit business.

The watchdog says that Afghanistan is the world’s largest producer of opium and the source of more than 90 percent of the world’s heroin.

Since 2001, the United States has allocated more than $8 billion to fight opium production and trafficking in Afghanistan, the report says.

Quoting US Department of Defense officials, the report says that a small portion of the overall US counter-narcotics funding has gone to counter threat finance (CTF) efforts directed at the Afghan terrorist narcotics trade.

Tunisian President Rejects Constitutional Court Amendments
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Tunisian President Kais Saied refused to sign the Constitutional Court Law amendments introduced by the parliament, fearing they would be used to overthrow him.

Saied’s decision further escalates the political tensions between the presidency and parliament, in addition to the government backed by Ennahda Movement.

The president sent a letter to Speaker Rached Ghannouchi, rejecting the amendments, calling for respecting all provisions of the constitution.

Constitutional law experts voiced their concerns that the recent amendments could be used to remove Saied from office.

The parliament approved the ratified revisions of the draft bill for electing members of the Constitutional Court and reduced the number of votes from 145 to only 131.

The amendment was proposed by Ghannouchi to reduce the number of votes constitutionally necessary to pass the members of the court to 109 votes representing the absolute majority.

Observers believe Ennahda can obtain the necessary number of votes to pass certain candidates of the Constitutional Court.

Earlier, the president rejected the ministerial amendment carried out by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi and approved by the parliament.

The Constitutional Court is able to end the president of the republic's term, declaring the position of president vacant, receive the presidential oath and examine disputes related to the jurisdiction of both the president and prime minister.

It plays a pivotal role in monitoring constitutional amendments and treaties, draft laws and procedures related to the parliament's internal system.

Istiqlal Party Calls for a New Social Contract in Morocco
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Morocco’s opposition Istiqlal party hopes the new electoral laws approved by the parliament will open the door to a "new democratic rotation."

Istiqlal’s Sec-Gen Nizar Baraka called for establishing a new social contract based on an approach that includes all factions in the country and without discrimination.

Speaking during the party's central committee meeting, Baraka was optimistic about the new laws in enhancing the democratic system and establishing real competition with a balanced political scene.

Istiqlal is looking forward to launching political reforms workshops to further localize the democratic option, protect rights, launch mechanisms that enhance confidence in political action, and prepare for the electoral process.

The upcoming elections must constitute an opportunity for citizens to conduct a real evaluation of the government's performance, said Baraka, calling on all Moroccans to express their will based on transparent democratic mechanisms.

He wanted the new democratic path to spread hope for a better tomorrow in the country, and bring about the desired change, in reference to the party’s aim to win the elections and remove the Islamist Justice and Development party, which has dominated the government since the 2011 elections.

The party’s central committee issued a statement calling for a "new social contract" that establishes a new generation of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights that ensure a decent life for all citizens based on the principles of equality, equity, and solidarity.

The committee pointed out that the royal decree to extend social coverage constitutes a real social revolution, and a pillar in the new development model.

It called for providing all kinds of mechanisms and conditions to ensure its success.

United States: Haftar Useful for Fighting Terrorism
[LIBYAREVIEW] US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood said that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
was an important actor in combating terrorism in Libya. He stressed the need for Libyan parties to adhere to the ceasefire, and continue fighting extremism.During an Interview with al-Jazeera Arabic Networks, Hood added that the creation of a favourable political climate in Libya will only be achieved once foreign forces and all mercenary forces are removed, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of October 2020.

"US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body....
emphasized that the priorities of the United States are to help the Libyan people reach the elections at the end of this year, and that this will be done through diplomatic engagement and working with international partners to ensure collective action," Hood noted.

"We will support the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
and non-governmental organizations, and will urge the Libyan people to vote in the elections. The US supports the UN arms embargo, and we will work with other partners in the Gulf and North Africa to tighten the screws on that," he added.

He affirmed that there is no longer any excuse for the presence of foreign forces in Libya, and that "other countries, through the Berlin track, will punish human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
violators, as well as fostering reconciliation in Libya." He emphasised the need to hold the elections as scheduled for December 2021.

Hood urged all Libyans to sit at the negotiating table and participate in the future of their country, calling on the new government to "control" the militias.

Arabia
Houthi Attacks Wipe out Symbols of Coexistence in Aden
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s interim capital, Aden, has historically served as an outstanding example for tolerance and coexistence among different faith communities. For centuries, the coastal city has been home for mosques, churches, synagogues and temples.

This vibrant history, however, was interrupted after the Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
militias overran the city a few years ago.

In 2015, the Houthis attacked the city and destroyed the last standing Hindu temple there. Gunmen desecrated the place of worship and then handed it over to al-Qaeda holy warriors for total destruction.

Today, ruins left behind from the Shri Hingraj temple are a disheartening reminder of the violence that has destroyed a diverse and tolerant society that once thrived in the metropolis.

Built sometime around 1865, Shri Hingraj was located in a picturesque mountainous location in a large cave in the Khusaf Valley, in the Crater area of Aden. At the time, the southern city was a British colony that was home to the largest Indian community in the country.

Despite British rule ending in 1967, Aden maintained its diversity until Houthis assaulted the city and drove out around 3,000 Hindus.

The snuffies audaciously attacked the temple, smashed its artifacts and revered statues, painted abhorrent slogans across its walls and told thugs that the worship place was a valid target.

Petty thieves then took apart and stole the temple’s ceiling fans, air conditioners, floor tiles and power cables.

Shri Hingraj was raided again on September 23, 2016 and on April 2, 2019.

Armed button men took over the location with rumors spreading about a Houthi-linked tycoon planning to build a commercial mall in the temple’s place.

Since then, no rites have been performed at the temple.

According to the Indian Ambassador to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Ausaf Sayeed, the coastal city has 10 Hindu temples that were annexed by the country’s Endowments and Religious Affairs Ministry.

Turkish religious group founded by Erdogan has no place in France: French government
[AlArabiya] An influential Turkish religious association founded by the mentor of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has no place in France as it goes against French values, the government spokesman said Thursday.

The Milli Gorus association has courted controversy in France in recent weeks by refusing to take part in a government-coordinated charter against Islamist extremism and over its backing of a new mosque in the eastern city of Strasbourg.

Tensions between Paris and Ankara are also running high after a series of rows between Erdogan and President Emmanuel Macron, who warned last week that Turkey would meddle in 2022 presidential elections.

"I consider that this is an association which goes against the values of the (French) Republic, which fights against the values of the Republic, against equality between women and men, against human dignity," Gabriel Attal told BFM TV in an interview.

"Clearly it should not organise activities and exist in the Republic," he added, while emphasising he was not announcing that the organisation was being banned.

Milli Gorus is among three Islamic groups in France which in January refused to sign up to an anti-extremism charter championed by Macron after a spate of attacks blamed on radicals.

Based in the German city of Cologne, Milli Gorus is a pan-European movement for the Turkish diaspora founded by late prime minister Necmettin Erbakan, regarded as the father of political Islam in Turkey and Erdogan's mentor.

Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has in recent years distanced itself from Milli Gorus but its conservative values remain close to those of the president.

According to its website, Milli Gorus is a "key player in the life of Muslims in France". It assists with pilgrimages, funerals, the construction of mosques and religious instruction.

In an interview with Le Point magazine published Thursday, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin warned that the state had "nothing to negotiate" with the groups that refused to sign the charter and would step up controls of their activities.

"That certain associations did not wish to sign it has revealed this shadowy world of foreign interference and extremist movements operating on our soil," he said.

French legislators are currently debating a draft law on cracking down on Islamist extremism seen as seeking to limit the influence of religious groups with foreign funding and restrict their role in education.

Officials in Strasbourg, run by a Green mayor, earlier this month approved a grant of 2.5 million euros (nearly $3 million) to Milli Gorus to build a new mosque, sparking an angry reaction from the government.

#1  Milli Gorus ((National Vision) was not founded by Erdgoan, but by his Islamist guru Nehmettin Erbakan. It began under the aegis of his Turkish Prosperity Party (Refah). In the nineteen nineties it was discovered that the Milli in both France and Germany was led by Muslim Brothers. The Milli Ikhwan are still powerful in Europe, and their center of operations still resides in Turkey. Today it is led by Erdogan, a powerful figure among the Muslim Brothers.

Biden's DHS may restart border wall construction to plug 'gaps'
[WashingtomTimes] Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told department employees he may restart border wall construction to plug what he called "gaps" in the current barrier.

In a conversation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees last week Mr. Mayorkas was asked about his plans for the wall and he said that while President Biden has canceled the border emergency and halted Pentagon money flowing to the wall, "that leaves room to make decisions" on finishing some "gaps in the wall."

Mr. Mayorkas, according to notes of the ICE session reviewed by The Washington Times, said Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the wall, has submitted a plan for what it wants to see happen moving forward.

"It’s not a single answer to a single question. There are different projects that the chief of the Border Patrol has presented and the acting commissioner of CBP presented to me," the secretary said.

"The president has communicated quite clearly his decision that the emergency that triggered the devotion of DOD funds to the construction of the border wall is ended. But that leaves room to make decisions as the administration, as part of the administration, in particular areas of the wall that need renovation, particular projects that need to be finished," he said.

He said those parts include "gaps," "gates," and areas "where the wall has been completed but the technology has not been implemented."

CBP did not return a message seeking comment on what was submitted to Mr. Mayorkas.

PA’s Abbas being flown to Germany for medical treatment
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

, 85, is currently being taken to Germany for medical treatment, according to Paleostinian media reports.

In videos circulating in Paleostinian media, a helicopter can be seen landing on Abbas’s office in Ramallah to ferry him to Amman. From there, Abbas will reportedly be taken to Germany.

A spokesperson for Abbas’s office could not be reached for comment on the president’s condition. Abbas, a longtime smoker, has a long history of health issues, ranging from heart trouble to a battle with prostate cancer more than a decade ago.

Rumors regarding Abbas’s health have been rampant, and Paleostinian officials have worked to tamp down unconfirmed reports and keep the president’s health issues out of the public eye.

The current trip to Germany will not be Abbas’s first. The Paleostinian Authority president headed to Berlin in 2019 for medical treatment.

Palestinians Approve 36 Candidate Groups to Run in May Vote
Assuming the election actually comes off, it will be interesting to see what happens when Hamas wins...
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Paleostinian election officials announced Sunday that 36 candidate lists had been approved to run in legislative elections set for next month, the first Paleostinian polls in 15 years.

The vote, which precedes a presidential election called for July 31, is part of an effort by the dominant Paleostinian movements -- Fatah secularists and Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, Islamists -- to boost international support for Paleostinian governance, AFP reported.

Groups had until Wednesday to submit their lists of candidates to contest in the May 22 legislative polls.

Individual names on each list are due to be published Tuesday, but the Paleostinian electoral commission announced on its website that it had approved all 36 applications.

President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
’s Fatah movement, which controls the Paleostinian Authority in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, is contesting the polls, as is Hamas, which has run the Israeli-blockaded Gazoo

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Strip since 2007.

Fatah is facing challenges from dissident factions including the Freedom list, led by a nephew of the late Paleostinian icon Yasser Arafat, Nasser al-Kidwa.

Freedom has been endorsed by Marwan Barghouti, a popular leader whom supporters have described as the Paleostinian Mandela.

Barghouti is serving multiple life sentences in Israel for allegedly organizing deadly attacks during the second Paleostinian intifada (uprising) from 2000-2005.

Abbas’s former Gaza security chief, Mohammed Dahlan, is also backing a list of challengers.

Former Paleostinian prime minister Salam Fayyad
...Fayyad's political agenda holds that neither violence nor peaceful negotiations have brought the Paleostinians any closer to an independent state. The alternative to both, violent negotiations, doesn't seem to be working too well, either...
, an ex-World Bank official with a track record of fighting corruption, is supporting another.

While Fatah and Hamas have reached an agreement for voting to take place in the West Bank and Gaza, the ability of Paleostinians in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem to vote remains uncertain.

Israel bans all Paleostinian political activity in Jerusalem, but Paleostinian leaders insist voting be held in the city’s east, which they claim as the capital of a future Paleostinian state.

National Resistance Brigades' public relations have stepped-up its PR efforts in the last few days
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The National Resistance Brigades is the armed wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Gaza. The DFLP, which split off from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), is the third-most important group in the PLO after Fatah and PFLP, suggesting a certain fondness for Marxist intellectual posing among the Palestinians.
