Jordanian Arrested for Smuggling Illegal Aliens From Yemen Across the U.S.-Mexico Border
[Townhall] The Department of Justice announced Monday afternoon a Jordanian national has been arrested after allegedly smuggling a number of special interest illegal aliens from Yemen into the United States through the southern border with Mexico. Special interest aliens come from countries with ties to terrorism and pose a significant risk to the safety of Americans.

Moayad Heider Mohammad Aldairi, who lives in Mexico, was arrested at JFK airport in New York. Aldairi is accused of being paid in 2017 to work as a human smuggler and trafficking six illegal aliens into the U.S. through Texas. Accrording to prosecutors, Aldairi worked with others on the scheme.

"Aldairi allegedly smuggled six Yemeni citizens across the Mexican border and into the United States," Assistant Attorney General Benczkowski released in a statement. "Alien smuggling puts our national security at risk, and the Criminal Division is dedicated to enforcing our immigration laws and disrupting the flow of illegal aliens into the United States."

Aldairi is currently being held in New York and will be transferred to Texas for prosecution.

"The arrest of Aldairi showcases HSI’s unique ability to coordinate investigative efforts across international boundaries with multiple countries and different agencies throughout the U.S. Government," said Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Shane Folden said. "Attacking the leader/organizers of illicit international pathways for aliens from certain countries of interest will always be a priority of HSI."

The number of special interest aliens in the United States has increased over the years and the majority of illegal aliens in the U.S. are no longer from Mexico according to Pew Research.

8 killed, 40 wounded as Afghan passenger bus hit by roadside bomb: officials
[DAWN] A roadside kaboom hit a Kabul-bound passenger bus in western Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least eight people and wounding around 40, mostly women and kiddies, officials said.

"It was a bomb planted by the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
to hit security forces but unfortunately it got a passenger bus," Farah provincial police front man Muhibullah Muhib claimed. There was no immediate confirmation that the Taliban was responsible for the blast, but Afghanistan's largest Death Eater group is very active in the province.

The kaboom happened as the bus travelled through Bala Baluk district of Farah at 4:30am, provincial governor front man Naser Mehri told AFP.

Photos posted on social media purportedly of the bus showed the vehicle's blackened shell and dozens of Afghan men standing at the scene.

Deadly violence in Afghanistan claims 26 lives, dozens wounded
[DAWN] A suicide bomb and gun attack by gunnies on an Afghan government building in Jalalabad on Tuesday killed at least 15 people, some burned "beyond recognition", officials said, the latest in a series of assaults on the eastern city.

On the other side of the country, a roadside kaboom apparently intended for security forces hit a passenger bus and killed 11 people, marking yet another bloody day for civilians who have borne the brunt of violence in Afghanistan.

The attack in Jalalabad targeted the compound of the refugees and repatriations department. It ended after more than five hours of intense fighting between gunnies and security forces, said Attaullah Khogyani, front man for the governor of Nangarhar

province.

At least 15 people were killed and the same number were maimed, Khogyani said. Provincial health director Najibullah Kamawal said some of the dead were "burned beyond recognition".

The raid began with a suicide kaboomer blowing up a bomb-laden car at the entrance as local representatives of foreign donors and agencies were meeting department employees inside the building.

"About 10 minutes before the end of the meeting we heard an kaboom and then gunfire," a government official told AFP.

"We looked down and saw two attackers entering the building. I and a number of other people at the meeting escaped to a corner on the top floor. I don't know what happened to the others." The driver for one of the people at the meeting said he was on the third floor when the attack began.

"People started screaming and running around," he told AFP.

"I jumped from the third floor onto a wall and then into the lane." Several people were taken hostage by the attackers, said Zabiullah Zmarary, a provincial council member.

"I saw a black Corolla car drop three gunnies at the gate of the refugees and repatriations department," a witness told AFP.

Khogyani said the two attackers who stormed the compound were killed.

Security forces swarmed into the area, and a plume of thick black smoke rose into the sky above the compound.

The Taliban

denied involvement in the incident in a WhatsApp message sent to journalists.

Africa North
Terrorist Ambush: Voting be hard in Mali
BAMAKO (REUTERS) - Gunmen attacked a convoy carrying election materials in central Mali, triggering a shootout in which four soldiers and eight attackers were killed, a Defence Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

The spokesman said the attack occurred late on Tuesday on the road between Nampala and Coura in the south-central region of Segou, giving no further details, and declining to say whether it was carrying ballot papers.

"The convoy was transporting some youths and election materials. There were 12 killed in total, four soldiers and eight terrorists," the spokesman said by telephone.

Mali's presidential election, the second since Tuareg rebels and allied Islamists took over the north in 2012, prompting French forces to intervene the following year to push them back, has been beset by attacks at the hands of suspected Islamist militants and allied ethnic militia.

Armed attackers succeeded in shutting down 644 polling stations on Sunday, representing about 3 percent of the total. A fifth of all polling stations suffered some kind of disruption, figures from the Ministry of Territorial Administration showed.

Jihadists have rendered almost all of north and central Mali unsafe by continually targeting foreign and local interests, taking hostages and attacking security and peacekeeping forces.

Arabia
UN Panel Finds Further Evidence of Iran link to Yemen Missiles
[AnNahar] Yemen's Houthis are still arming themselves with ballistic missiles and drones that "show characteristics similar" to Iranian-made weapons, a report by a UN panel of experts has found.

In a confidential report to the Security Council, a copy of which was seen by AFP on Monday, the panel said it "continues to believe" that short-range ballistic missiles and other weaponry were transferred from Iran to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
after an arms embargo was imposed in 2015.

Iran has repeatedly denied that it is arming the Huthis in Yemen, but the United States and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
have accused Tehran of providing military support to the rebels.

Recent inspections of weaponry including missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by the Huthis "show characteristics similar to weapons systems known to be produced in the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran," said the 125-page report.

During recent visits to Saudi Arabia, the panel was able to inspect debris from 10 missiles and found markings that suggest an Iranian origin, said the report spanning January to July this year.

"It seems that despite the targeted arms embargo, the Huthis continue to have access to ballistic missiles and UAVs to continue and possibly intensify their campaign against targets in KSA (Saudi Arabia)," said the report.

The panel said there was a "high probability" that the missiles were manufactured outside of Yemen, shipped in sections to the country and re-assembled by the Huthis.

- Iran denies backing Huthis -
In a letter to the panel, Iran maintained that the missiles, which the Huthis have dubbed the Burkan, are a domestic upgrade of SCUD missiles that were part of Yemen's arsenal before the start of the war.

The experts are also investigating information that the Huthis received from Iran a monthly donation of fuel valued at $30 million. Iran has denied providing any financial support to the Huthis.

During the inspections of the missile debris, the experts mandated by the council also found power converters produced by a Japanese company and Cyrillic markings on components that suggested a Russian link.

The investigation of those findings continues.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the council in a separate report in June that some components from five missiles fired at Saudi Arabia were manufactured in Iran but that UN officials were unable to determine when they were shipped to Yemen.

The panel has opened an investigation of seven Arclight airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition that hit civilian buildings, a gas station and commercial vessels, in a possible violation of international humanitarian law.

The Huthis are accused of widespread and indiscriminate use of landmines.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military campaign to push back the Huthis and restore the internationally recognized government to power.

The conflict has left nearly 10,000 people dead in Yemen, which the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
considers the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

ISIS Claims Attack on Tajikistan Cycling Tour; 2 Americans Among Those Killed
[PJ] ISIS claimed responsibility for a Central Asian attack in which foreign cyclists were struck by a car and then stabbed by the sedan's occupants.

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, confirmed that two U.S. citizens were killed in the mid-afternoon Sunday incident in the Danghara district, about 150 miles south of the capital Dushanbe.

A Swiss citizen and a Dutch citizen were also killed. The embassy said seven cyclists in all were struck by the car.

Tajikistan’s interior minister said the assailants were armed with knives and guns; Tajikistan's Asia-Plus media group reported that three suspects were killed in a confrontation with police in the village of Osmondara. Another suspect was reportedly arrested.

Asia-Plus cited the head doctor at the local hospital as saying puncture wounds consistent with a knife attack were found on at least some of the cyclists who were injured. One stabbed cyclist is reportedly French.

11 killed by car bomb in Basilan
[Mindanao Examiner] Eleven people were killed when a car bomb exploded Tuesday morning at a security checkpoint after government militias stopped a suspicious vehicle in Lamitan City in the southern Philippine province of Basilan. The powerful blast obliterated the vehicle and left a huge crater. Among those killed were a woman and a child. Five soldiers were injured in the explosion.

The bodies of those killed in the blast were all scattered around the checkpoint in Bulanting village, about 2 kilometers from downtown Lamitan. Three goats grazing from a nearby field also died from the explosion which can be heard from as far as five kilometers away.

It is not known how many people were inside the van, but a media report said among the passengers was believed to be a foreign terrorist. It said the terrorists came from a nearby town and heading to downtown Lamitan when they were stopped at the checkpoint after the passengers could not speak the local dialect or answer questions asked by the militia. Minutes later the explosion occurred.

Among those killed in the explosion was the militia commander whose unit is under the supervision of the Philippine Army. It was not immediately known how many civilians were wounded in the blast.

The province is a known stronghold of the militant group Abu Sayyaf whose leaders have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Several foreign fighters had been killed in clashes with soldiers in Basilan in recent years.

Recently, troops and policemen foiled a bombing attempt in southern Tacurong City after a civilian discovered an improvised explosive along a street and immediately informed authorities about it. Security officials blamed the failed attack on the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and tagged two fighters Brah Lumambas and Bohari Adam, both bomb-makers under militant leader Gani Saligan, as behind the attempt.
