DeLay money laundering verdict overturned
[KVUE] A Texas Court of Appeals in Austin has overturned the conviction of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, attorney Brian Wice told KVUE sister station KHOU 11 News.

DeLay, 66, was convicted in 2010 for his alleged role in a scheme to influence Texas elections.

He was found guilty of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering after he was accused of helping funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.

In documents released early Thursday, however, an appeals court said the evidence in the case was "legally insufficient to sustain DeLay's convictions."

"I'm very happy about it," DeLay said in Washington Thursday. "I'm so glad they wrote the ruling about it because the ruling says I never should have been charged, much less indicted."
Too bad about your reputation, but the Donks got what they wanted and that's all that matters to them or to the MSM...

The Scariest Thing You Will Read All Week
h/t Instapundit
RAISING THE DEBT LIMIT DOESN'T INCREASE OUR DEBT.
So I saw this Drudge headline and figured he must have taken Professor Ditherton Wiggleroom out of context, because there's just no way Wiggleroom thinks we're that stupid, or is that stupid himself. But out of fairness to Drudge, I clicked on the link to see what the Professor had actually said, and here are his actual words:

"Now, this debt ceiling -- I just want to remind people in case you haven't been keeping up -- raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy. All it does is it says you got to pay the bills that you've already racked up, Congress. It's a basic function of making sure that the full faith and credit of the United States is preserved."

Obama went on to suggest that "the average person" mistakenly thinks that raising the debt ceiling means the U.S. is racking up more debt:

"It's always a tough vote because the average person thinks raising the debt ceiling must mean that we're running up our debt, so people don't like to vote on it, and, typically, there's some gamesmanship in terms of making the President's party shoulder the burden of raising the -- taking the vote."

I think he was stoned, and I'm not kidding. Either Wiggleroom was stoned when he said those words, or stoned when he or his speechwriter wrote those words, because that is not how a non-stoned person speaks or thinks. As a young man I spent four years in the former Pot Capital of the World™, Humboldt County, CA -- and I know these things.
There's another possibility: the choom gang years permanently changed Barry's brain

#2  He's right, and wrong at the same time, the PHRASE, doesn't mean shit, it's the FACT we're raising the debt in the first place, NOT what it's called.
Posted by: Redneck Jim || 09/20/2013 18:30 Comments || Top||

#3  AFAIC none of the GOP-DEMS in Washington is truly serious about reducing the debt, just as they are about NOT sealing the borders or preventing illegals from collecting public assistance, etc. widout having to change their status or learn anything about America.

IMO the only real plan is to pass off the bulk of the US' massive debt to our future OWG NAU + related after 2015, where US Politicos will get to claim the US no longer has any national = sovereign debt or large debt, but weirdly-n-mysteriously is still expected to carry the majority or bulk of the post-2015 OWG NAU, ETC. contributions = budget support.

IOW, AMERIKA STILL OWES, BUT IT NOW OWES AT THE "GLOBAL" LEVEL OR RELATED, i.e. Bloc = Regional, Trans-regional, Continental, etc.

OUR FUTURE "MINOR/LOW-LEVEL" NATIONAL GOVT. HAS NONE OR LITTLE DEBT; OUR EXTRA-NATIONALIST,
"BORDERLESS", "GLOBAL", ETC. GOVT(S) HAS OUR MISSING DEBT.

Aren't we Amerikans glad that Mexico + Canada will pay for our debt at the Globalist level(s) -OH WAIT, THEY DON'T WANT TO, THEY PREFER POST-2015 OWG AMERIKA PAYS THEIRS!

Oh my.

Democrats Leave Benghazi Hearing Before Testimony From Families
[TOWNHALL] During the second portion of a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing about Benghazi Thursday on Capitol Hill, the majority of Democrats on the Committee left the room and refused to listen to the testimony of Patricia Smith and Charles Woods. Ms. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer killed in the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Charles Woods is the father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was also killed.
As Uncle Phester points out in a similar post on this story:
...as has been so eloquently stated, "What difference does it make?"...
Hey, give them some credit: They're not doing anything Obama or Hillary didn't do to the Benghazi four.
...Or anything they wouldn't do to US military in Syria.

Government
House GOP launches shutdown battle by voting to defund Obamacare
With one vote on Friday, the Republican-led House launched the latest spending battle in Congress -- one that could bring a government shutdown in less than two weeks.

By a 230-189 tally almost strictly on party lines, the House passed a short-term government spending plan that would eliminate all funding for Obamacare.

The measure now goes to the Democratic-led Senate, which is certain to reject the provision
As Yoda would say, "So certain are we. Hmmm?"

The Pubs have 46 votes. They need five Donks. How about Hagan, Pryor, Landrieu, Begich and Manchin? All five of them are staring at 2014 runs that sure won't be helped if they vote 'yes' on one of the most unpopular things Washington has ever done. Let it go through with 51 votes -- let it become apparent to Dingy Harry that it's going to get 51 -- and watch the fireworks. Heh, as the Professor would say.
that defunds President Barack Obama's
I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go...
signature legislative achievement of his first term.

Even though the vote was the 41st by House Republicans to repeal or otherwise undermine Obamacare, House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!' Boehner
... the occasionally weepy leader of House Republicans...
and fellow Republicans held a brief victory rally afterward and challenged the Senate to follow their lead.

"The American people don't want the government shut down, and they don't want Obamacare," the Ohio Republican said to applause and cheers. "The House has listened to the American people. Now it's time for the United States Senate to listen to them as well."

In a display of the raw politics of the battle, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia called out Senate Democrats facing re-election next year by name, asking how Sens. Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Mark Begich of Alaska and Kay Hagan
...Niece of former senator and Florida governor Lawton Chiles, married to a transaction lawyer, who has a net worth between $10.7 million and $40 million. He is a former Democrat ward heeler, which explains a lot. She defeated the listless Elizabeth Dole in 2008...
of North Carolina will vote on the House proposal.

"It's up to Senate Democrats to follow House Republicans and show some responsibility," Cantor said.

In legislative jargon, the House passed a continuing resolution that would keep the government funded for the first 11 weeks of the fiscal year that begins October 1.

The controversy involves the provision demanded by the GOP's conservative wing and agreed to by Boehner that eliminates all funding for the 2010 health care reforms popularly known as Obamacare.

Approval by the House set in motion a Capitol Hill showdown that will continue through October, when the nation's debt ceiling must be increased so the government can pay all its bills.

The two-stage process includes a possible government shutdown at the end of the current fiscal year on September 30 if there is no compromise on a spending resolution, followed by a potentially even more rancorous debate over raising the debt ceiling.

#2  Nothing good will come out of this. Internally the republicans are a fighting mess. Externally their messages seem child like and amateurish, and in a no win situation. The Republicans need to fix their party, like we called for in 08. The way it stands the Dems will own the white house for another 8 years if the republicans don't get their acts together...

What did "we call for in 08"?

It's a serious question.
Posted by: Pappy || 09/20/2013 15:26 Comments || Top||

#5  Why does the House have to 'defund'? All appropriations must originate in the House.
1-just don't fund it.
2-do like the Donks, misappropriate it like the Social Security tax since the 1960s. All the toys and special interests funding goes into Obamacare eating it up. Oops, no more money to fund the crony subcontractors.

#7  Not all the Republicans in the Senate are guaranteed to vote to defund. Many more of them are old-fashioned, big government types, who would rather be collegial than win. (Yes, I am thinking of Senator McCain. Why do you ask?)

Report: Phil Gingrey gripes $172K salary
[POLITICO] In an argument against a special exemption allowing Hill staffers to buy health insurance, one politician said he's "stuck" making $172,000 a year, while aides will go on to make in big bucks lobbying on K Street, according to a report.

Staffers "may be 33 years old now and not making a lot of money. But in a few years they can just go to K Street...and make $500,000 a year. Meanwhile I'm stuck here making $172,000 a year," Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) said on Wednesday, according to the National Review.
We can fix that both for him and for the staffers. Implement the Reynolds tax on the staffers, and vote Gingrey out of office.
The comments, which came in a closed-door meeting of congressional Republicans, angered some of the aides in the room, which led two to relay to the National Review.

Gingrey, who's own net worth the National Review reports, is at least $3 million, is against the special exemption that would allow Hill staffers and politicians to buy their insurance in the exchange markets, while still receiving a government subsidy to do so.
