I suspect most of them have simply left for greener pastures. Lots more jobs in Texas and N. Dakota than the Rust Belt. Nothing sinister... unless the aliens have developed a taste for black folks.
From memory, more voters in Milwaukee cast ballots in the 2004 and 2008 Presidential elections than there were 18+ year olds living there based on the US Census (for what that's worth). Kerry won the area in 2004 and 'The One' did the same in '08.

Thanks for posting this. I have been reviewing Romanian humor(good luck with that). Under communism you couldn't say anything directly. Reading their jokes you need the joke translated after the English translation.

A delicious treat we always got at the fairs and fests -- for the trailing daughters as well. Over here they couldn't be sold because they are completely politically incorrect.

I have an old colleague who tells a funny story about his Commanding officer at Panzer Kaserne outlawing this delightful treat due to the PC implications. When he PCS'd, trays of negerkuss were served at his hail and farewell. :-)

The other rule of thumb being that the average thumb was 1 inch so you approximately measure (rule) with your thumb.
Just like a yard or measure is the distance from your nose to extend hand when looping off cloth.

Another use for "rule of thumb" was in brewing beer - the brewer could tell by using his thumb at various stages of the process whether or not the wort was the correct temperature.

I've always heard it to be an approximate measurement by Medieval tradesmen. If a builder used the 'rule of thumb' (in measuring something), then the resulting construction might be close, but not exact, thereby creating a less than optimal final result. Okay for a small structure or piece of rough furniture, but not good for something larger.
The Cathedrals were NOT built by 'rule of thumb' measurements as individual labor agreements between the Church and the guilds specifically forbade them. Dire (and swift) consequences befell those who attempted to use something other than the established measurement templates for the project.

PC can drive you mad. Currently it's almost impossible to find out what the updated "correct" word is for a black person in Germany.
Not only there. My favorite PC insanity was a reference I read regarding "African-American Africans" where the author was struggling not to say, simply, "black Africans." Couldn't find it on Google -- they must have tossed in in the Memory Hole.

not surprising - the DOJ/EPA has been losing to Texas. One of Obama's tools was on teh three judge panel. Appeal it. No illegals or dead voting!

Section 5 should have been repealed two or three decades ago.

What is the partisan make-up of the Ferel Washington appeals court? Appeal this to SCOTUS. Although I thought SCOTUS already decided that voter ID was legal.

The problem for Texas is that it's damned for being among the 'former' states in rebellion and with them targeted in the '65 Voting Rights Act to 'prove their innocents' rather than the fed proving their guilt. So a prior ruling effecting, say, Arizona does not apply. The Act established extensive federal oversight of elections administration, providing that states with a history of discriminatory voting practices (so-called "covered jurisdictions") could not implement any change affecting voting without first obtaining the approval of the Department of Justice, a process known as preclearance. - more

When I heard that speech what struck me was the part about all you hard working, smart people not being rich. I expected him to launch into "Everyman A King" There enough to go around and everyone can be a millionare!
I also like the part about needing police to protect your business. I guess Ms. Warren et al never watched "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" Mr. E. L. Harriman of the Union Pacific Railroad didn't call the Gov't , he called the Pinkertons! "Who are those guys?"
Just saw the Bill Clinton ad where he assures me that Obama will build things that will please John Frum so he will bring much Cargo.
