$4.5mn pension boodle in Bell, Caliphornia
[Iran Press TV] A Caliphornia city on the brink of bankruptcy has $4.5 million in a special pension fund set up by its former administrator, grand jury transcripts reveal.

Testimony given to a grand jury indicates former Bell City Administrator Robert Rizzo established a second pension fund for himself and his deputy allowing them to get around an Internal Revenue Service cap on government pensions, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Rizzo and deputy Angela Spaccia were charged last month with conspiring to illegally boost their pensions, creating fake contracts and secretly increasing their benefits.

Previously, the district attorney charged them as part of a sweeping corruption case that also includes six other former officials of Bell, Calif.

Rantburg editorial policy is that we don't permit or put up with the Birther nonsense. I'm letting this one go because, after all, it provides a link to the president's long-form BC.

But keep in mind that we will NOT tolerate birther advocacy. Posts and and comments that do that WILL be deleted.

#25  Layers? Jeez. I was really hoping this was the end of it. But that does strike me as strange.

What also strikes me as strange, assuming the information is accurate, is how an 18-year-old Kansas girl wound up in Hawaii having babies with a black guy - in 1961. Quite unusual. And then at some point baby daddy split and somehow he wound up growing up in Indonesia? No wonder he's so screwed up.

#27  "how an 18-year-old Kansas girl wound up in Hawaii having babies with a black guy - in 1961. Quite unusual"

I don't think it was so unusual in Hawaii, RJD, though probably so in the rest of the country. She was a radical, so probably slept with communist Obozo Senior to establish her bona fides. (or maybe she actually loved him; there's no accounting for taste)

#30  What also strikes me as strange, assuming the information is accurate, is how an 18-year-old Kansas girl wound up in Hawaii having babies with a black guy - in 1961.

I've no idea about Hawaii, Random JD, but young Miss Stanley was a red diaper baby. Her parents' membership numbers were supposedly pretty low in the Communist Party registry in Moscow. And Miss Stanley clearly had a thing for dark, foreign men from the Muslim world -- her second husband was Indonesian, and she happily followed him back home after he graduated.

But anyway, dark foreigners were not quite the same as dark Americans, at least within the ivory tower. My mother ran into that in about 1947 -- she was dating an African man, a college classmate, who had to explain to her that they couldn't go to movies and restaurants together in New York City. It hadn't occurred to her that there might be an issue. Clearly he didn't see an issue with interracial dating as such, merely the limited entertainment options...

To be fair, it was only a few years after she'd arrived in the U.S. after hiding from the Nazis, and she wasn't really up on American prejudices.

#32  The Kalanianoale highway no longer exists (there is a Kalani Street in Honolulu). It may have been an informally named road where indigents lived.

That may be why Obama did not want to have the birth certificate released.
Posted by: Lord Garth || 04/27/2011 15:42 Comments || Top||

#33  Interesting, TW. I heard about the red diaper baby thing, and I'm sure Hawaii is culturally distinct from the mainland. I had a leftie friend at university who preferred "ethnic" men too, because it made her feel good about herself to show off how color-blind she was. In fact, she was a man-eater and kind of a slut. And a Muslim, who wore miniskirts and ate pepperoni pizza. But she assured me, it was all for a good cause! I imagine Momma Obama was not so different.

#34  I had a leftie friend at university

I hadn't thought of the leftie thing, RandomJD -- a good point. In my mother's case it was a matter of fellow foreigners -- and she was living in the school's international dorm at the time, so propinquity as well. My mother is about as apolitical as it's possible to be and still breath both in and out. She completely missed the Commie scare, f'r instance.

#36  This looks like a print from microfilm that has been made into a PDF. Edge enhancement can account for the white around the characters.

You can see ink images from the left side page, which makes me pretty confident these were filmed on a planetary scanner.

It doesn't particularly look fake to me.

However my birth document from 1963 says birth certificate. Does anyone (cybersarge?) know why this document is considered a Birth Cert? Is it a hawaii specific thing?

#37  Lord Garth

The Kalanianaole Highway (Hwy 72) does exist. It runs along the coast between Diamond Head and Koko Head. 6085 Kalanianaole is in a small burb called Kuliouou.

If I remember correctly there are a few rusted out VWs setting on blocks at some the houses.
Posted by: GolfBravoUSMC || 04/27/2011 16:42 Comments || Top||

#38  Oh my goodness, I certainly did not mean to draw any parallel between my friend and your mom! Of course newcomers would have little awareness of local racial peculiarities. Been there myself.

I meant, red diaper baby Miss Stanley sounds much like my confused leftie friend, whose most deeply personal decisions were explicitly motivated by race. Not just naive - naive and brainwashed.
Posted by: RandomJD || 04/27/2011 16:51 Comments || Top||

#39  Just did a Google Maps on 6085 Kalanianaole Hwy.

A large house on the corner of Kuliouou Rd and Kalanianaole Hwy. Lawn with Palm trees in front yard and neighbors two doors down have a pool. This Real Estate area was hot during the Japanese buying spree in the eighties so it is most likely different today than it was in 1961..

#41  I certainly did not mean to draw any parallel between my friend and your mom!

That puts you in good company -- I didn't realize that might have been implied. I inherited my mother's obliviousness and lack of social subtlety. In general, I won't even notice I've been insulted unless it's as blatant as poor JUSTICE lusting after my armpit hair (for some reason he's fixated on that instead of the more normal triggers for male instinctual response). So you're quite safe in assuming a) I didn't notice, or b) I didn't realize I ought to be offended.

So we're in agreement about your second paragraph, which is exactly how I read your comment. :-)

#43  however are you going to "pass" for a Leftie if you don't make that your first (and only) thought about everything?

I'm sorry, Barbara, but the very thought of trying to think that way is too exhausting for words. I'd have made a terrible spy.
Posted by: trailing wife || 04/27/2011 19:57 Comments || Top||

#44  To heck with it. It may get me thrown out. It is not the fact that there was or was not a Berth-cert, it is the fact that the thinking of Americans are too stupid to find truth on their own.

Someone hacked it up, took the original Adobe document and released it on the Whitehouse.gov site.

It's like green helmet guy but with 9 layers. The real question is who is the US Citizen with Birth Certificate department of health number 61 1064?

Kind of like the selective service card stamped in 2007.

#45  "Why Now?"

Because people have now started to ask about the college transcripts. I think he had to at least release the birth certificate (which I believe is real) in order to take some wind out of the sails of people wanting to see the college information.

They are hoping that will go away now because they definitely don't want those getting out in the public media. A President with a D average wouldn't sell well in the next election.

Posted by: crosspatch || 04/27/2011 21:31 Comments || Top||

#46  And the reason why I want to see his college transcripts?

If I am hiring a kid for an entry level position, I want to see their transcript. Obama wants me to hire him as my President. I want to see why I should hire him based on more than just what he spouts during the interview.

#52  The document was probably obtained from a microfilm copy. So it would have been in "negative" format. It doesn't even matter if it is real anyway, as far as I am concerned. A boob can be born anywhere.

But actually, I don't care if people what to waste their time on the issue because frankly, it keeps them occupied and out of things that really matter.

Freshman Dem Leans Toward Fiscal Conservatism
From an e-mail response to a Congress.org e-mail - my Northern Virginia (Democratic) first-term Congressman, who (for the first time), provided me with some hope.
I share your concern that increasing federal debt is harmful to our long-term economic prospects, and must be addressed now. While budgetary deficits unfortunately are not a new phenomenon - the federal budget has been in deficit in 74 of the past 100 years - they are not inevitable. Beginning in Fiscal Year 1998, the federal budget was in surplus for the first time in almost 30 years. Budget surpluses continued through FY 2001 and the decade-long projection was $5.6 trillion in surpluses. Unfortunately, 2002 saw the return of budget deficits.

The past is only important in noting that we can achieve eventual surpluses, especially if we rely upon the budgetary tools that helped lead to previous surpluses under President Clinton.
But wait!
In 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed Statutory Pay-As-You-Go, or PAYGO, legislation that required federal spending increases or revenue cuts to be offset so as to not increase the federal deficit. PAYGO was in force throughout the 1990s and was a significant contributor to those budgetary surpluses. It should come as no surprise that when PAYGO was allowed to expire in 2002, deficits returned. I am proud to have voted for the reinstatement of statutory PAYGO, which was signed into law this January.
This from a guy who voted for Obamacare.
While PAYGO will be a significant tool in deficit reduction, we must do more. Recently, I wrote Congressional leadership asking them to dedicate unused and repaid funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, to deficit reduction. Thanks to the improving financial sector, the savings from TARP are projected to be $173 billion. This represents the single largest opportunity for deficit reduction in our history, and we must demonstrate fiscal responsibility by taking advantage of it. I broke with my party and voted against the use of TARP funds to fund the recent $154 billion jobs bill because it would further add to the deficit, and while we work towards supporting continued economic recovery, we must be mindful of the long-term implications of deficits. I will continue to work towards further reductions in debt, and a return to fiscal responsibility in Washington.
I shook this man's hand before the 2008 election, and thought him a moderate Dim. Perhaps my first impression was best?
