-Lurid Crime Tales-
Today's idiot
h/t Jules Crittenden

They’ll have to chisel another name into the wall where stupid criminals are memorialized. An armed robber shot himself in the groin as he was robbing a convenience store Tuesday, cops said.

A clerk reported that a man carrying a handgun entered the Village Pantry demanding cash and cigarettes. The clerk put the cash in a bag, and when she turned to get the smokes, the gun went off.

Cops say surveillance video shows the man shooting himself as he placed the gun in his waistband. They later found Derrick Kosch, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right testicle and lower left leg.

Kosch, charged with armed robbery and criminal recklessness and battery, was released from the hospital Tuesday and booked into the county jail, where the other inmates no doubt are being very understanding.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Study: men like women wth long legs
When it comes to snaring the perfect man, the solution could be as simple as slipping on a pair of high heels.

In a study that confirms what many of us have long suspected, scientists have shown that men find long legs attractive.

Faced with the choice of two women of the same height, but with different leg length, they will tend to plump for the one with the longer legs.

#1  they will tend to plump for the one with the longer legs.

Britain and America, two countries separated by a common language. Plump? :)

And on a similar note for our British cousins, if you ever find yourself in an American jail, never ask for bangers. It means something different over here, particularly, in jails. Unless, of course you are in to that sort of stuff.

Today in History
Raoul Gustav Wallenberg (born August 4, 1912, exact date of death is disputed) was a Swedish diplomat and a member of the influential Wallenberg family. In the later stages of World War II, he worked tirelessly and at great personal risk to save many thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust. He was later arrested by the Soviets who suspected him of being a spy; the circumstances of his death while in their custody are still a matter of great controversy.

According to the Israeli organization Yad Vashem, Wallenberg is credited with personally saving the lives of many thousands of Hungarian Jews.
Using nothing much more than a typewriter and a lot of nerve.
One story credits him with either threatening or persuading a German general to ignore orders from Adolf Hitler to destroy the ghettos and kill the remaining inhabitants in the last desperate days before Budapest's liberation. If true, the number of people saved by Wallenberg's actions would rise to about 100,000. When the Russians finally took over, they found 97,000 Jews living in Budapest's two ghettos. In total, roughly 204,000 of the pre-war population of about 800,000 Hungarian Jews survived.

Wallenberg was arrested by the Soviet Red Army on January 17, 1945 as they entered Budapest, probably on suspicion of being a spy for the United States. To this day, the U.S. government refuses to either confirm or deny this. He was taken to the Lubyanka in Moscow with his driver Langfelder. Wallenberg was then transferred to Lefortovo prison in another part of Moscow for two more years.
A true hero. Never forget.

Terror of the skies! It's "Hil Force One"
Team Clinton unveiled a new campaign plane on Wednesday -- and with it, an honorary member of the flight crew.

"My name is Hillary, and I'm so pleased to have most of you on board," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton announced over the public address system of the 737 aircraft before it took off on its maiden voyage, from Las Vegas to Reno, shortly after 2 p.m. pacific standard time.

Welcome to Hil Force One. Or HF1, for short.
I always thought 'Broomstick One' was better ...
"FAA regulations prohibit the use of cell phones, blackberries or other wireless devices that may be used to transmit negative stories about me," Clinton said. She warned her guests -- a couple of dozen reporters, members of her Secret Service detail and several aides -- to keep their seatbelts on even after the light had been turned off. "Things can get awfully bumpy when you least expect it," she said. . . .

. . . Clinton, notoriously wary of the press, had until Wednesday avoided too much mingling with her assigned reporters, choosing mostly to fly on a separate charter, sometimes in and out of separate cities. Her decision to travel with the ink-stained masses -- albeit in the front first class section -- came as part of a broader effort of late to be more accessible, with suddenly frequent interviews, conference calls and press availabilities (including one immediately before the flight).

Still, she did not wander too far off-message, even in jest. "In the event of an unexpected drop in poll numbers this plane will be diverted to New Hampshire," she said, as reporters leaned to the center aisle to catch a glimpse. Clinton then promised to deliver her "stump speech, in its many variations," as in-flight entertainment. "We know you have choices when you fly, so we are grateful you chose the plane with the most experienced candidate."

Arabia
UAE could have women judges
ABU DHABI - The Ministerial Committee for Legislation recently approved the draft law amending the judiciary law to allow women to become judges. The draft would now go to the UAE Cabinet for its approval.

At its meeting chaired by Counsellor Mohammed bin Nukhaira Al Dhahiri, the committee approved the amendment under which a member of the judiciary could be either male or female instead of the present provision that only a man could become a judge. Al Dhahiri said another amendment to the law was that a graduate of the Judicial Training Institute could work in the judiciary soon after graduation. Till now, the person had to spend four years working at the public prosecution before joining the judiciary.

The amendments were in compliance with the latest international trends, which entitled the woman to her full rights, especially in the field of judiciary and courts to decide the sort of cases a woman would be more apt to take up the role of the judge, Al Dhahiri said.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Officials deport president of Palomar College MEChA club
The president of the MEChA club at Palomar College has been deported to Mexico, immigration officials said yesterday.
Excellent! Now stay out!
Paola Oropeza, 22, was arrested Jan. 8 by a fugitive operations team with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for the department in San Diego. Oropeza had been ordered to leave the country by an immigration judge, but she failed to comply with that order, Mack said. At the time of her arrest, Oropeza was in the country illegally and was taken to Tijuana, Mack said.
buh-bye!
Oropeza did not have a criminal record besides illegal entry to the U.S., said Mack, who could not provide details about Oropeza's immigration background. Oropeza was arrested with three people who are believed to be relatives, Mack said. One is still in deportation proceedings.

When reached on a cell phone yesterday, Oropeza declined to comment. She said her attorney has advised her not to talk to the media.

MEChA, or Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, is a racist Latino student group with chapters in high schools and colleges. It focuses on empowerment through education as well as political, cultural and social awareness.
It is one of the fronts that want to create Aztlan in place of the southwest US, and the most vocal a-holes at the pro-illegals protests

#5  And now...the rest of the story...

PARTIAL TRANSLATION FROM:
http://diariosandiego.com/bin/articulos.cgi?ID=42791

Cue the violins...
With a sad and optimistic look, Paola Oropeza, the student from Palomar College who on Tuesday was deported with her family, said she will not give up.

Already in Tijuana, after being deported from the country where she lived for 19 years, and reunited with her mother and father, began to think about her future and what she will do to finish her college courses, since she was one semester away from obtaining a degree in Business, before being deported. "I believe that I am going to finish those courses through the internet and we will remain here because here is the closest thing to where I've lived", said Paola on Friday in an interview after visiting the consulate of the United States in Tijuana.
...and it's real close to the border in case I wanna go out for a 'stroll" some night.
"I already went to ask and they told me that I am not going to be able to return for 10 years", the student said.
Awwwwwwwww. Too bad, so sad...
Paola arrived to the United States with her parents, María de Jesus and Guillermo Oropeza along with her sister Claudia in 1989. The family, as many others, who went to see a respectable immigration lawyer (Claudia Smith?) in order to normalize their status in this country, never thought that their documents would be misfilled.
Si, "misfiled"...
"When my one year work permit arrived we went to thank our lawyer, she was also surprised, and even saw my green card", said Guillermo Oropeza, father of Paola.
You "saw" your green card? Think you might've wanted to "have" your green card?
"We renewed the permit several times until an appointment letter from Los Angeles arrived ", added Mr. Oropeza. Once with immigration authorities, an agent that reviewed their request for legalization asked them the question that would change everything.
...and everybody leans forward to hear...
"We arrived and he asked me, that a person of the Mexican government is trying to kill me?', I said No, that that was not true, but that was what my lawyer wrote in the application", Mr. Oropeza who after clarifying the situation, the agent explained that Mexicans are not given political asylum. "They told us that we had to leave the country but we told them that Paola was three months away from finishing highschool and they gave us permission to remain here, and they didn't deport us until now", said Guillermo.
Si! Finishing the school! That's it!
After years living in Escondido, on Tuesday they executed the family's deportation order, with the same excuse. "They arrived at five in the morning saying that they were the police, and that they were seeking a gentleman that we did not know, that they were going to enter to look for him and then leave, but they did not leave and they deported us", said Paola.
Surprise!!!
Claudia Oropeza, the older sister, refused to sign the voluntary exit after being placed under arrest with her parents and younger sister. Claudia is awaiting trial before a judge at a local jail.
I will fight THE GRINGO!
In the meantime Paola, María de Jesus and Guillermo went through three days of desperation upon not knowing where they were, while Paola and María de Jesus were deported on Wednesday together, but their father was deported on Thursday and while they were alone it was a nightmare.
Nice. The hat trick for ICE.
"We are together and we already think we know what to do, if its to return to Mexico where we have house in Querétaro, where the family of my wife lives and were we also have a house to arrive, but while we do not know what happens with Claudia, we will not make a decision", said Guillermo.
So they've got a house in Mexico and a place here? Geez, wish I could say that...
"At least the world hasn't closed on us, because we are workers and therefore we will seek a way to continue ahead", added the head the Oropeza family.
You can almost hear the flamenco guitar playing in the background, "We are workers"...

#6  She lived in Escondido, huh?

The latest I've heard about Escondido is the city council is trying to pass an ordinance making it illegal to park a car in the yard of any house. The reason, of course, is that many illegals live with multiple families in single family homes and, with all the extra cars, parking becomes a problem. Kinda trashes up the neighborhood too.

All the usual suspects are protesting the proposed ordinance. I haven't heard about the ACLU filing a lawsuit yet but it's probably just a matter of time. They jumped right into the fray last year when the council passed an ordinance requiring landlords to verify that their tenants are in the country legally. The council had to back down that time because they didn't have enough the money to fight the ACLU in court.
