MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida veterinarian is facing charges of possessing child pornography and sexually abusing a dog, authorities said.
Prentiss Madden, 40, was arrested by federal agents on Tuesday and ordered held pending a Friday bond hearing, court records show. Court records did not list a lawyer for him, and it wasn’t immediately clear who could speak in his defense.
Madden was medical director of Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Miami until he was fired two weeks ago, when colleagues learned he was under investigation for "these heinous and unthinkable crimes," the hospital said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Our legal team, and every single member of the Caring Hands family will be doing everything in our power to aid law enforcement and facilitate their investigation and prosecution," the statement read.
Madden’s charges fall under a federal law outlawing animal abuse, which was initially created in response to a genre of cruelty in which people record the harming of animals for the sexual gratification of viewers, the Miami Herald reported.
[Washington Examiner] A Texas man sought by police was arrested on Wednesday near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris and found to have a firearm and ammunition in his car.
Paul Murray, 31, was stopped by the Secret Service and apprehended around the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., after law enforcement was made aware of a Lone Star State police bulletin that pinned him as a wanted man. Police found a rifle and ammunition in his car, which was parked in a downtown garage some distance away from the vice president's dwelling.
Murray was booked on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
"A bunch of cops passed me at the National Cathedral, which is just up the road from the observatory," Andrew Leyden, a former Capitol Hill staffer who witnessed the arrest, told CNBC. "What was really odd was it was marked units and unmarked units."

Any Parking Garage (reported that the vehicle was located in one) at is over a half-mile walk from the VP's house (1 Observatory Cir NW, Washington, DC 20008).
If the guy was there for nefarious reasons, and it sounds like he had a warrant already, lock him up.
If he was just walking around the area (as I have done in the past - pretty interesting buildings), then just go for the existing warrant and cut out all this other cr*p.

[RT] If snow and bears are quintessential for any video from Russia, this one definitely makes the cut. An agitated animal was filmed chasing a man down the street of a chilly Siberian city... shortly after escaping from a local hotel.
The bizarre story, with some truly crazy visuals, emerged from Nizhnevartovsk in Western Siberia on Wednesday. Locals were puzzled after they witnessed a brown bear roaming the streets downtown in the morning. The animal was very out of place, given it’s a pretty big city with some 280,000 residents and no forests nearby.
The footage, caught on camera by eyewitnesses, shows a man clearly aware of the bear while anxiously talking to somebody on the phone as it gets ever closer. There’s a dramatic moment when the creature appears to get agitated and rushes at him, launching an intense, if short competition in who can run faster. After quite some chase, the quick-thinking man then makes a successful break by crossing the road and setting up his pursuer to be hit by an oncoming bus.
Luckily, the story resolved more or less positively for everyone involved, including the furry guy — or rather gal, as the bear was later revealed to be female. She wasn’t seriously hurt by the vehicle’s impact, thanks to the bus driver’s swift reactions and good brakes, and was soon tranquilized and taken away by the animal control team, which quickly arrived at the scene.
According to local media, the bear was not a wild species, but a captive pet, and had been kept by its owner at the nearby hotel. The police are now investigating how it managed to escape and whether its living arrangements had even been legal to begin with. A second bear was reportedly found in a cage at the same hotel.

[WashingtonExaminer] Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed critical race theory and pledged there is no room in his state’s classrooms for the controversial curriculum.
“There's no room in our classrooms for things like critical race theory,” the Florida Republican said Wednesday. “Teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money.”
DeSantis pledged that Florida's curriculum will "expressly exclude" the teaching.
DeSantis also said he is proposing a $3,000 bonus for Florida teachers who complete a civics education program that focuses on “foundational concepts” rather than the critical race theory that has been spreading nationwide.
The critical race theory movement, energized by the New York Times’s recent 1619 Project, deviates from a traditional curriculum and teaches that racism is embedded in the founding of the United States.
Earlier this year, government employees in San Diego County, California, were forced to take part in critical race theory training, including a lecture stating that only white people are capable of being racist.
A judge struck down Boulder, Colorado's ban on the possession of AR-15s and magazines holding more than 10 rounds on Monday.
Colorado state judge Andrew Hartman ruled the city's gun ban violated the state's preemption law, which prevents localities from imposing gun regulations above and beyond state law. Judge Hartman's ruling declares the ordinance invalid and immediately bars the city from enforcing the ban.
"The Court has determined that only Colorado state (or federal) law can prohibit the possession, sale, and transfer of assault weapons and large capacity magazines," Hartman wrote in the ruling.

Republicans and one election clerk challenged her instructions in court.

four years is a short time to get any kind of legal changes made to elections when you have no standing before the election and it doesn't matter after according to our own high court.
Legislatures need to make the change and they need to hold rogue election officials accountable, legally.
