Japan Minister 'Suicide' ahead of Affair Claim
[An Nahar] Japan's financial services minister died in an apparent suicide two days before a tabloid magazine was set to reveal claims the married 73-year-old was involved with another woman, reports said Tuesday.

Tadahiro Matsushita was found hanging at his Tokyo home on Monday, the Mainichi Shimbun and other media reported, adding letters addressed to his wife, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and cabinet members were also discovered.

A woman who answered the telephone at the tabloid magazine Shukan Shincho told Agence France Presse that its Wednesday edition would carry a story on a scandal involving Matsushita that was "related to a woman". She declined to elaborate.

Press reports suggested the magazine would be publishing claims that Matsushita, who was also the state minister in charge of postal reform, was having an extra-marital affair.

Egypt's ex-PM Ahmed Shafik faces arrest, extradition order
(CNN) -- Prosecutors in Egypt have ordered the arrest and extradition of ex-prime minister and presidential runner-up Ahmed Shafik, along with other Mubarak-era officials, according to Egypt's state-run Middle East News Agency.

The move is tied to an investigation into alleged corrupt real estate dealings involving the illegal sale of state property to the sons of former President Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...

Shafik, a former air force chief and the last prime minister to serve under Mubarak, lost a June presidential runoff to Mohammed Morsy. He left Egypt for the United Arab Emirates after the vote, but his attorney told CNN at the time that he was not fleeing the country.

And in an interview with Egypt's state-run Al-Ahram newspaper on Tuesday, Shafik said he expected the charges and would await the results of an investigation.

The judge ordered Shafik held in connection with the sale of 40,000 square meters (9.9 acres) of land in the lakeside city of Ismailia to Mubarak's sons, Gamal and Alaa. The judge also referred allegations against Gamal Mubarak, two Egyptian generals and a member of the country's pilot officer's association to a criminal court for investigation.

HRW: DR Congo's M23 Guilty Of War Crimes with Rwandan Help
[An Nahar] The M23 rebels whose festivities with the army have renewed unrest in DR Congo's unstable east are guilty of widespread war crimes, committed with continued Rwandan backing, Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
said Tuesday.

The rebels, a group of former soldiers who defected from the DR Congo army in April, have raped women and girls, kidnapped young men and boys to fight with them, and carried out summary executions -- including the killing of 33 young recruits who tried to escape their ranks, Human Rights Watch said.

The rights group said officials in neighboring Rwanda, where top military officers have been accused by United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
experts of backing the M23, "may be complicit" in war crimes perpetrated by the rebels.

"The M23 rebels are committing a horrific trail of new atrocities," Anneke Van Woudenberg, senior Africa researcher at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.

"M23 commanders should be held accountable for these crimes, and the Rwandan officials supporting these abusive commanders could face justice for aiding and abetting the crimes."

The rights group said its findings were based on interviews with 190 Congolese and Rwandan victims, family members, witnesses, local officials and current and former M23 fighters.

The M23 was formed by former fighters in an ethnic Tutsi rebel group that was integrated into the Congolese military in a 2009 peace deal whose terms the mutineers claim were never fully implemented.

Kigali denies backing the new rebellion, and has in turn accused Kinshasa of backing a group of Hutu rebels who also operate in eastern DR Congo and oppose Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Cop held with antiques stolen from Sadiqgarh Palace
[Dawn] Police claim to have recovered antiquities allegedly stolen from the basement of the historic Sadiqgarh Palace of late Nawab Muhammad Sadiq Khan Abbasi in 2003, from a constable who was tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on Monday.

The recovered items including two stone statues -- one of late King Charles and the other of Queen Elizabeth I -- besides 15 rifles, mirrors and precious pieces of pottery etc, had been kept in the palace's basement that was sealed in 1970.

Dera Nawab Sahib police had registered an FIR of the theft of these antiquities in 2003.

According to the police, the tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
constable, Muhammad Abbas, was among the police guards posted at the historic palace.

During the previous years, several arrests were made in connection with the theft and some of the stolen antiquities were recovered which had been with the police since then.

Rimsha pleads innocence in first television interview
[Dawn] The 14 year old Christian girl, Rimsha Masih, accused of blasphemy has given her first interview after being released on bail.

In her interview to CNN, Rimsha expressed fear for her life but said she was happy to be back with her family.

Rimsha refused to answer questions regarding what had actually taken place on the day she was accused of committing blasphemy but reinforced that she was innocent and was falsely accused.

Her father was also contacted by CNN and said that no one from his family would ever dishonour the Holy Koran.

Rimsha was accused of burning pages of the Holy Koran and was imprisoned on blasphemy charges. The case took a turn when the Imam (prayer leader) of the local mosque was accused by an eyewitness of tampering with evidence in the case.

Two other witnesses later came forward and recorded their statements against the Imam.

Upon being released on bail, Rimsha was moved to an unknown location along with her family.
