Britain
Britons becoming afraid of young people
Britain is becoming a nation increasingly afraid of its young people and this "paedophobia" is causing problems for children as they grow up, a report released on Sunday said. Britons were far less likely than their European counterparts to stop young people committing antisocial behaviour, because of fears of reprisals, being attacked, or verbal abuse, the study by the Institute of Policy Research (IPPR) found. It said changes to family, local communities and the economy had combined to cause "deep inequalities" in the transition from childhood to adult life., meaning many young people were incapable of growing up safely or successfully. A lack of adult supervision because of a breakdown in traditional communities where neighbours looked out for each other's children had increased the risk of youth crime and violence, it added. "The debate about childhood in Britain is polarised between false opposites: that either children or adults are to blame," said Nick Pearce, IPPR director. "Complex structural changes to our society, coupled with changes to how young people behave, have produced this situation."

#2  Has anyone seen Children of Men? I think that it flopped even in the art houses, but it appears to talk to this. Per the trailer, it seems to be about a near future world where no one can have kids anymore (no one knows why) and the whole world has degenerated into something like Beirut circa 1979. It's weird and pathetic in a way since subconsciously, it seems to be a metaphor for what's going on in Europe with the Muslim part of it conspicuously missing. In the trailer, the hero has to get a mysteriously pregnant girl to a team of the "worlds greatest scientists." Yes, secularism saves the day!

How pathetic it is when even your myths lie.

#3  Well - nobody is allowed to criticize. Everybody's opinion is as valid as everyone else's. These out of control children are a result of imperialism, sexism, racism, etc.

#4  Does this mean that British males will have to start dying like Russian males while in early middle age, so that Russian = Brit society will end up being taken over by Muslims + Chinese??? IT COULD BE WORSE - THE ABOVE COULD ALL BE LIKE AFRICAN NATIONS [e.g. ZIMBABWE] AND HAVE A GREATER THAN 60%-80& CHANCE OF DYING BEFORE AGES 25-30.

#5  Let's see, the adults and authorities won't discipline the native Anglo-Saxon youths because it might damage their self-esteem, or maybe their just afraid the kids will beat them up. And they won't enforce the laws against the Muslim yoots out of political correctness and/or fear. Can we at least get these two groups of young people to focus their til-now pointless aggression on each other, and not bother the rest of the country so much?

#8  What you get is frustration that turns into the irrationality reflected in comment #2 to this post. That is the kind of irrationality that is emerging in the US also. And there is no justification for it over here.

#9  My wife works at a middle school and she swears that sometimes the only discipline some of these kids get is at school. On the flip side once they cross her (and lose) they are not too likely to cross her again. She has been called “Bitch” “Whore” “Cunt” and many other colorful names by 12, 13, and 14-year-olds. I could never do her job because the first time a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader called am an “asshole” they would be unconscious or crying because of the crack I would deliver. (Homey donÂ’t play that)

#10  CS, are you implying there is any ethnic distribution to the perps? I know what I suspect, but that's not the basis on which to make policy. Each individual deserves to lose consciousness upon commission of the offence. No offence, consciousness continues at its prior level.

#12  This is the result of Marxist/leftist doctrine which took away guns, and now takes away the right of self-defense and even criticism. All animals are able to detect weakness in other animals. They always pick out and attack the least defensible in the herd. When you allow yourself to be defenseless, you are to blame. Then your quality of life falls to nothing. You become a prisoner in your own home. Some of my favorite reading these days is my monthly NRA magazine where someone has prevented themselves from being killed thanks to their ability to handle a gun. Quite often, there is mention of someone breaking the door of an elderly resident, charging in, only to come face-to-face with the barrel of granny's gun. And, more and more, thes grannies do not back down. They fire multiple rounds at close range. Either finishes the perp, or when he drags into hospital is immediately arrested. What I'd like to see is the absolute fear in his eyes when he realized he was completely f**ked and was going to go down.

#13  I don't care if they are White, Black, Yellow. or Purple they should not be using that language. Maybe if they got some dicipline at home the schools would be a lot nicer. Trust me there is a solid cause and effect here. If my kids ever talked to an adult that way explusion would the least of their worries, recovery in ICU would be at the forefront. You can go to ANY screwed up place in the U.S. and the underlying cause is lack of parental control. Didn't the UK put cameras in the classroom and then see a drastic reduction in disruptions?

Brazil's president set to win re-election
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva widened his lead over rival Geraldo Alckmin to 24 points in a poll released on Friday that showed him poised to win re-election in the October 29 runoff. A survey by Ibope polling firm released by TV Globo showed Lula would win 62 per cent of the valid votes, compared with 57 per cent in a poll released on October 12, as he brushed off the effects of a recent political scandal.

China-Japan-Koreas
S.Korean politician in trouble after dancing with N.Korean waitresses
THE head of South Korea's ruling party waltzed into a political firestorm today after newspaper pictures showed him dancing with North Korean waitresses on a trip across the border last week. Kim Geun-Tae's visit Friday was meant to be a public show of support for two joint business ventures between the North and the South that have been facing criticism since Pyongyang tested an atomic bomb earlier this month.

But South Koreans were treated to a different show when reporters snapped pictures of Mr Kim smiling and dancing with two North Korean waitresses at a lunch in the border city of Kaesong. The pictures have infuriated many in the South who were already angry that President Roh Moo-Hyun and his Uri party have refused to curb the two projects, which critics say are helping fund the North's nuclear weapons program.

Mr Roh's administration "embraces the North and dances to the tune of the North Koreans",' said a top official from the opposition Grand National Party. A GNP spokesman called on Mr Kim to resign.

Now Mr Kim's colleagues are trying to two-step through the controversy. "It is not desirable to launch undue political attacks for lunchtime happenings,'' one MP said. Another said it was a "natural custom'' to dance at North Korean banquets and that Mr Kim at first refused many times.

One paper said Mr Kim was hustled to his seat by an aide after cameras in the room began flashing.
"[hiss] You idiot! Siddown and shaddup!"
The two projects, the Kaesong industrial complex and Mount Kumgang tourist site, have provided North Korea with nearly a billion dollars in hard currency since 1998. The government says it will not suspend them despite international sanctions on the North for testing a nuclear weapon on October 9.

Home Front: Politix
Murtha says Dems will rule House of Representatives "big time"
Greene County: Murtha calls Iraq a 'failed policy wrapped in illusion' at banquet
Good. He says black, I think white.
JEFFERSON -- John Murtha has never been one to hold back on what he believes.
Not since he lost his mind, anyway.
And the outspoken Johnstown Democrat, who is seeking re-election to Congress in the sprawling 12th District, didn't disappoint the crowd gathered Sunday night at the Jefferson fire hall to honor state Rep. Bill DeWeese as "Democrat of the Year."
Must have forgotten there are other voters out there.
Murtha, 74, one of several speakers at the Greene County Democratic Committee's fall banquet, said he has never seen people so eager for a change.
True, if you're only counting the people who will have you over for dinner.
"There is going to be a tidal wave Nov. 7. The House of Representatives is going to turn Democratic, big time," Murtha said.
Hmm. What are you thinking of doing?
Why?
[Popcorn time!]
"Because the Republicans are not paying attention to the moonbats people. The Bush administration is arrogant," he said.
I guess moonbats call people arrogant if you ignore their rantings.
Murtha, while passionately defending his patriotism, has been criticized for his criticism of the way the war In Iraq is being handled.
I guess passion will have to substitute for reason here.
"This is a war that cannot be won militarily," he said. "There is a limitation of what the military can do. Our soldiers are caught up in a civil war and while we need stability in the Middle East, we cannot do it by ourselves," he said.
No $hit, $herlock. Does that mean we have to get out? Does that mean we aren't trying? I don't remember anybody whining about the possility of the barbarism we are witnessing now. But we'll get it beat down eventually.
He makes no apologies for his stand on the war.
That's why they call it insanity.
"I do this as an obligation as a member of Congress. When I see a policy I don't agree with I have to speak out," he said.
Yes, but you don't have to make stuff up.
Murtha, who is running against Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey, said he keeps saying to the Bush administration, "Folks, it's not going the way you said it would go. You are painting too rosy a picture. We have kids being killed and we have to change course and we have to change direction."
Pure genius. Battle plans evaporate as soon as they see the enemy. More details, please?
He said no one supports the military more than he does.
WTF?
A former Marine colonel, Murtha said he has three brothers who served in the Marines, and his father and two uncles were World War II veterans.
I wonder what their opinion of all this is. I'm pretty sure the dead ones have been whirring along at about 20,000 RPM ever since he accused those marines of violating ROEs and intentionally killing innocent civilians.
"I support the military but I cannot support a policy having young people in harm's way in the middle of a civil war" he said.
Your ideas here, please? Run away as soon as they start shooting each other, perhaps? Good precedent.
Murtha said there were a lot of people who thought he would back down when people started to attack him.
Maybe you should take your own advice and get the heck out of town when your own people start taking potshots at you.
"I talk to the military all the time which makes you an expert, I'm sure and I go to the hospitals at least once a week and I see the results of this bad policy, a failed policy wrapped in illusion," he said.
Where did you borrow that from.
Murtha also said this country should be worried about North Korea and Iran, both of which have nuclear potential, something Iraq never had.
We are.
"Yes, we should be worried because of how we have depleted our reserves in this Iraqi war. We have to work this out diplomatically with North Korea and Iran," he said.
Good luck with that. They only listen to food and the 12th Imam, respectively.

Obama Says He Is Considering 2008 Presidential Run
(Bloomberg) -- Senator Barack Obama of Illinois said he is considering seeking the Democratic nomination for president in 2008, departing from previous statements that he planned to remain in the Senate through 2010.

Obama, 45, said he hasn't made a decision, something that will have to wait until after the congressional election. ``Given the responses that I've been getting over the last several months, I have thought about the possibility'' of running for president, Obama said today on NBC's ``Meet the Press'' program. ``But I have not thought about it with the seriousness and depth that I think is required.''

#3  ``But I have not thought about it with the seriousness and depth that I think is required.''

Neither has the MSM.

Obama's legislative record, both at the state and Federal level, will certainly be enough to disqualify him in successfully running for president, as far as the center-right is concerned. Also, his phony Kumbaya Christianity (the only type the atheist and agnostic fundamentalists in our cultural elite tolerate) is self evident.

Notwithstanding, Time magazine last week ran a carefully crafted puff piece about him, making it seem like he's the ideal candidate for our times (at least from their POV); strong on all the luvvy-duvvy, turn-my-cheek, "social justice" funded by taxes aspects of religion and yet vehemently opposed to any judgement of good vs evil, self-sacrifice and self-control, and rules of morality that are the other side of the coin. In other words, they're trying to craft him as Christian enough to interest the Democrats' and independents' shrinking religious base but not so much so that he'll scare off the atheist evangelicals at the far left of the party.

It's a measure of how out of touch the MSM is when they don't realize that the center and right can see right through this crap. We already had a phony centrist Trojan horse for the left in Bill Clinton. And we already had a "liberation ideology" (ie., Marxism and moral relativism hiding behind a Bible) president in Jimmy Carter. We remember.

#10  I agree with WX. This is great for Republicans. If Congress is lost this round, voters will already have had enough of Dummocrats. Plus, "Pubs" need recovery from Bush who is a "Pub" RINO. This would be only be fair since we handed Blow Job the '96 election by running a corpse (otherwise known as Bob Dole). This Obama puffery has no credentials to be a US Senator let alone US Pres. Let the Donks offer up Hilldebeast or this buffoon. I think 30% of vote would be generous.

#12  Obama - the Great White Hope

Socialist and gun grabber and voted against cloture on the fence while voting for the fence.

Chicago Trib's been running anti-Obama letters in its letter section.

#13  He's a nice kid, but a gun grabber and lefty. Also way too young and a senator, which means he basically can't win.

#14  I wouldn't dare to presume that someone who's against protecting Live Born Children is a 'nice kid'. This man is a scumbag of the most epic kind. Read this if you need convincing. To hell with him and his ilk.

#15  I love this stuff. Let's see, Hillary will win the nomination, and the darkies will be mad if Obama is not chosen for VP, so that should guarantee a vote of about 30 percent for Hill and Barak, and 70 percent for Rudy and Allen.

Once the always corrupt dems realize the math, they will pull every trick to dump Obama, or Hillary, or both. I can't wait.

#1  Heh. If the SKors are the virtual canaries in the coal mine - this may not work out so well, lol. Recall the stories posted in RB of SKor gamers...

The WWO crowd is growing - and fanatical. From them we'll probably get primo UAV operators, and that's a very good thing, but the WI guy who pulled the NFL dirty-bomb scam is symptomatic of the weak-willed loonies who fall into the 'Net.

It's gonna be a wild (virtual) ride.
