Navy again lowers requirements as it struggles to meet recruitment goals
No high school, no GED, OK.
[NYPost] The US Navy is starting to enlist individuals who didn’t graduate from high school or get a GED, marking the second time in about a year that the service has opened the door to lower-performing recruits as it struggles to meet enlistment goals.

The decision follows a move in December 2022 to bring in a larger number of recruits who score very low on the Armed Services Qualification Test.

Both are fairly rare steps that the other military services largely avoid or limit, even though they are all finding it increasingly difficult to attract the dwindling number of young people who can meet the military’s physical, mental and moral standards.

Under the new plan, Navy recruits without an education credential will be able to join as long as they score 50 or above on the qualification test, which is out of 99.

The last time the service took individuals without education credentials was in 2000.

“We get thousands of people into our recruiting stations every year that want to join the Navy but do not have an education credential. And we just turn them away,” said Vice Adm. Rick Cheeseman, the Navy’s chief of personnel, in an interview Friday with The Associated Press.

He said that of the more than 2,400 who were turned away last year, as many as 500 of them could score high enough to get in.

He said he has already sent an order to his recruiters to start the new expanded effort, adding, “I’m hoping all my recruiters have called all 2,442 of them in the last 72 hours, and we’ll see how it goes … We’ll try to get some test takers this weekend.”

In the wake of the pandemic, the services have faced significant enlistment challenges. COVID-19 forced the military to shut down recruiting stations and they were closed out of high schools and many public fairs of events where they historically found success reaching prospective candidates.

But even as things opened up, the military struggled to compete with higher-paying businesses in the tight job market, particularly as companies began to offer the types of benefits — such as college funding — that had often made the military a popular choice.

Those economic problems were only exacerbated by the sharp political divide in the country and young people’s fears of being killed or injured going to war.

Last fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, the Navy, Army and Air Force all failed to meet their recruitment goals, while the Marine Corps and the tiny Space Force met their targets.

I can buy the lack of a certificate of attendance to public schools, but the ASQT has been a bench mark since the 70s. Got to wonder how much its been watered down for 'equity'. BTW, the action brings with it a deterioration in discipline.

#3  Poor teaching technique in the schools is part of the cause of the test problem. Not to mention the difficulty of learning from Zoom classes during the shutdown. If they can be taught how to learn, how many potential recruits would be salvageable?

#7  Because we have a lot jobs for people in the modern Navy to operate and service the simple stuff on the USS Ford or Arleigh Burke/Aegis DDGs.
Now that no academic credential is required (however risible it now is) look for a huge increase in ASFAB ( yes I'm that old) AFQT fraud and cheating scandals in about a years time. Some here will remember the ordeal of culling the force from the mid-to-late 70's.

#8  Given he complete deterioration of the US education system, not a bad idea actually. The military can definitely retrain people on how to learn, they learn their job and get a HS diploma at the same time.
As their career goes on, they can get more schooling and leave the service with a bachelor's.

Assuming of course the military doesn't fuck it up with DEI training only. Although if Biden leaves, hopefully all that woke bullshit goes with him along with the woke officers.

Also, the mothers and fathers that could be having their taxes and children going for that get a vote, even if they haven't served. Everyone gets a voice.

That being said we really need to up our education on world affairs and why sometimes it is necessary to establish our dominance at the top of the food chain through extreame violence.

’Head still on’: Posters of Israeli hostages in Gaza defaced at Harvard
A number of posters of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and put up at Harvard University have been defaced with hate graffiti. Photos and footage circulating online show the posters bearing antisemitic conspiracy theory slogans such as “Israel did 9/11” and “I knew Epstein personally,” in reference to Jeffrey Epstein.

On the poster of Hamas’s youngest hostage, one-year-old Kfir Bibas, someone wrote “head still on.”

The graffiti was discovered yesterday as university students return to campus after winter break. Channel 12 reports that a group of Israeli students at the university have filed a complaint with the administration.

Britain
Sky News apologizes after anchor compares idea of relocating Gazans to Holocaust
[IsraelTimes] In on-air apology, UK network recognizes ’complete inappropriateness’ of comparing Likud MK Danon’s idea of allowing Paleostinians to leave amid war to extermination of Jews in WWII

Sky News issued an on-air apology late Friday following an interview with Likud MK Danny Danon in which the interviewer likened his comments in support of voluntary relocation of Gazooks amid the war to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.

During the interview on Friday, Danon was discussing an idea he had outlined in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece he co-authored in November, urging "countries around the world to accept limited numbers of Gazook families who have expressed a desire to relocate."
Ingushetia has accepted about 130 Gazan emigrants since the war started, so it can be done.
The host, Belle Donati, claimed that he had "suggested the ethnic cleansing of some of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. ’s population," to which he clarified that he was speaking only of "voluntary emigration."

"I think anyone in the world who voluntary [sic] wants to move to another country should be eligible to do that," he said.
As I recall, something like three quarters of young Gazans wanted to leave before the October 7th massacre, but Hamas gave exit permits to only a favoured few. All the rest they kept trapped within their control. Once again Israel acts to liberate the Palestinians of Gaza from the evil ones they elected to rule over them.
Donati, who appeared impatient and seemed to scoff at Danon’s comments as he spoke, retorted: "Yes, the sort of voluntary relocation of many Jewish people during the Holocaust, I imagine."
During the Holocaust many Jews would have loved to leave, but few countries were willing to accept them. And those few countries were not interested in taking in the millions who wished to flee. My mother and her parents had to wait ten years before their visa numbers could be exercised.
"How can you compare that, shame on you for that comparison," Danon said. "That is a shameful and antisemitic equation... This is pure antisemitism."

Donati attempted to quickly move on to another question, but Danon would not.

"I will not allow you to speak about the Holocaust and compare it to what’s happening today in Israel when we defend ourselves," he said.

In Sky’s apology, a different anchor said Donati "made a comparison between Mr. Danon’s comments on Israel’s war with Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
and the treatment of Jewish people in the Holocaust. Sky News recognizes the complete inappropriateness of this comparison and the offensive nature of those comments.
It sounds like Ms Donati disagrees with the idea that she has anything to apologize for.
"Sky News would like to apologize unreservedly for the comparison and to Mr. Danon personally for making the comparison."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier in January that Israel "has no intention of permanently occupying Gaza or displacing its civilian population," though Danon, a former Israeli ambassador to the UN, told The Times of Israel at the time that "the prime minister told me two weeks ago in this room that it’s a good idea."

The MK’s comments seemingly confirmed an earlier report that the prime minister had informed a Likud faction meeting that he was working to facilitate voluntary migration.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, after the interview, Danon called Donati an "insolent interviewer."

On Saturday night, he said he had seen the Sky apology but was seeking a personal apology from Donati.

British warships lack firepower to attack Houthi land targets
[Yahoo] Britain’s warships cannot attack Houthi targets on land because they lack the firepower, in a situation described by former defence chiefs as a “scandal”.

None of the Royal Navy’s destroyers or frigates have the ability to fire missiles at targets on land, leaving the US to carry out the majority of strikes on Houthi targets with support from RAF planes based 1,500 miles away.

A British defence source said HMS Diamond, the destroyer stationed in the Red Sea, had not joined retaliatory strikes on Houthi targets because it did not have “the capability to fire to land targets”. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said it had instead been “directly involved in successfully destroying Houthi drones targeting shipping in the Red Sea”.

This weekend, a British-linked container ship caught fire after becoming the latest vessel targeted by Houthi rebels.

One former rear admiral suggested that Britain’s inability to strike the Iran-backed Houthi movement’s bases from warships highlighted how the Navy would be unable to “go toe to toe” with Chinese and Russian warships.

Currently, the only weapons on destroyers that can fire at other ships or land are artillery guns at the front of each vessel. While US destroyers can fire Tomahawk guided missiles at land targets, the UK’s only options for such strikes are deploying planes or submarines, five of which were reported to be unavailable at one point in the autumn.

Tobias Ellwood, the former chairman of the Commons defence committee, warned that the situation was unsustainable and urged Grant Shapps, the Defence Secretary, to conduct an urgent review. “We can’t continue to do this with a surface fleet that’s too small and cannot fire on land at range,” Mr Ellwood said.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, now the head of the Armed Forces, was among navy chiefs warning of a need to “speed up our acquisition processes” for weapons including “land attack missile systems” five years ago, when he was First Sea Lord.

During the first few months of Boris Johnson’s premiership, Sir Tony publicly advocated replacing Harpoon anti-ship missiles with a weapon that could be used to attack land targets.

However, the Harpoon was retired from the Navy last year and its temporary replacement, the Norwegian-made Naval Strike Missile, which can hit land targets, has only been installed on one vessel so far as part of a trial and has yet to be fired. Eventually, it will be rolled out to 11 frigates and destroyers before a new cruise missile system is expected to be introduced in 2028.

, becoming the first nation to join the ongoing genocide in the besieged enclave.

Since October last year, nearly 27,000 Paleostinians, the majority of them children and women, have been martyred by the Israeli forces in the strip.

The Paleostinian Foreign Ministry Saturday slammed Peru for allowing its citizens to participate in the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Paleostinian territory.

The foreign ministry issued the statement followed by Peru’s condolences for a soldier killed during the war in the enclave, Al Jazeera reported.

In a tweet on its official handle, Peru’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday: "The Peruvian government regrets the death of Yuval Lopez, a Peruvian-Israeli citizen who served as a reservist in the Israeli Defense Forces".

The Paleostinian ministry said it expected Peru to "revoke the citizenship of its citizens who hold Israeli citizenship and are involved in the conflict, instead of offering condolences after their deaths and praising them".

Former National Security Leaders Sound the Alarm to Congress in a Letter on Invasion at the Southern Border
[Hot Air] The United States has never suffered an invasion of the homeland, yet that is what is happening right now.

That statement seems obvious to anyone paying attention to what is happening on the southern border. The word invasion was initially viewed as too harsh of a word. It might be seen as having military connotations or implying military action. Over the course of President Biden’s term in office, the crisis created by an open border with Mexico has been all but ignored by most media outlets except for one. Fox News Channel reports on the border every day. The cable news network’s reporters are on the border and do live shots as illegal immigrants cross the Rio Grande River and while others simply walk into our country by coming through a section of the border wall.

Nope. The media will tag this to 'White Supremacy' over and over and over again, for months, like it was a proven fact. And the millions who are stupid enough to believe them will repeat it in social media, make up cute little mimes, and make up bullshit stories while Facebook and the like labels any opposing opinion as 'misinformation'.

Just like they did in 2020...

#5  Many of these illegals who have no KSA's or cultural ability to fit in, will instinctively group and self-organize into "crews" that mimic the structures of their homelands. Once the government phones and credit cards quit, expect them to replicate those self-same behaviors along the urban/suburban interface where the targets are more lucrative. For the places that have succumbed to the Soros-DA/defund-the-police cancers, local law enforcement/criminal justice systems will be quickly overwhelmed.

Poof, the mythic up until now "White Supremacist"/Militia vigilante groups the MSM has been prattling about will spontaneously erupt for real as core, traditional Americans band together to protect property and public safety. The MSM will provide the massive, biased coverage to set the predicate for federal intervention.

What follows may well be the stuff of nightmares for any of us who remember a sane America before the Obama 1/2.0 and the current 3.0 variant, began the fundamental transformation no one actually imagined was underway!

Biden Admin Rolls Out Record-Shattering Border Report in Friday Afternoon News Dump
[Breitbart] The Biden administration rolled out a record-shattering border encounters report in a Friday afternoon news dump. The monthly Southwest Land Border Encounters report came out later than normal and revealed a shocking look at the apprehension of nearly 250,000 migrants in the month of December.

The report, released on Friday afternoon, shows that Border Patrol agents along the southwest border with Mexico apprehended 249,785 migrants who illegally crossed the border in December between ports of entry. This is up by 12 percent from the 222,018 migrants apprehended one year ago and more than 11 percent compared to the Biden-era record of 224,370 set in May 2022.

Border Patrol Agents Union Official Response:

"Rank-and file BP agents are not going to start arresting TX NG members for following their LAWFUL orders. That's fake news,” the Border Patrol union said in a statement posted to X/Twitter. "TX NG and rank-and-file BP agents work together and respect each other's jobs. Period. If TX NG members have LAWFUL orders, then they have to carry out those orders.TX NG members realize that rank-and-file BP agents have their orders as well. Lawful orders, no matter how unpopular or distasteful amongst rank-and-file agents, must be followed. Unlawful orders (as determined by competent legal counsel and not what some outhouse lawyer behind a keyboard says) will not be followed."

UNRWA chief 'shocked' at countries stopping agency's funding
[Ynet] The Commissioner General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, criticized on Saturday the decision of the U.S., Germany, Great Britain and other countries to halt funds to the U.N agency for Palestinian refugees. Lazzarini said that the cessation of funding is "shocking", and warned that it threatens the continuation of humanitarian activities in the region, especially in Gaza. He called on the countries to reconsider their decision.

On December 29, South Africa brought Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on charges of committing genocide against Paleostinians.

Sebutinde abstained from voting on all six of the ICJ's propositions. She is currently receiving backlash for her vote from people all around the world, with some social media users saying Ugandans should be ashamed.

Iraq
Dana Gas resumes gas production at Khor Mor after drone attack: Deputy minister
[Rudaw] Dana Gas on Friday resumed gas production at the Khor Mor field in Sulaimani province one day after it was hit by a weaponized drone, Kurdistan Region's natural resources ministry told Rudaw, adding that they have also resumed power generation.

The Khor Mor field, a critical gas field operated by the UAE-based Dana Gas, in Sulaimani province’s Chamchamal district was attacked late Thursday. A liquid storage tank was hit by a weaponized drone, causing a halt in gas production and a subsequent power outage in the Kurdistan Region, according to the Kurdish electricity ministry.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Ahmed Mufti told Rudaw that they have resumed the production of gas at the field at the same level it was before the field was attacked on Thursday. He noted that they have also resumed power generation at the previous capacity.

The ministry will publish details on Saturday, the Mufti said.

Shakir Wajid Shakir, head of Dana Gas’ Iraq and Kurdistan Region branch, told Rudaw that they have resumed operations.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Friday ordered an investigation into the attack.

The Joint Operations Command said in a statement on Friday that Sudani has “directed an investigation to be conducted to determine the circumstances of this incident, to be completed within 48 hours.”

There have been no reported casualties in the incident, and as of now, no group has claimed responsibility.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called on the federal government and Kurdistan Region's "friends" to help the Region prevent such attacks, adding that issuing condemnations against such attacks is not enough.

Khor Mor field has several times come under rocket attacks over the past few years, reportedly by Iraqi militia groups affiliated with Iran. This is the first time it is being targeted in months.

Despite the security threat, Dana Gas said in 2022 that they would be able to meet the Kurdistan Region’s full gas demands in about two years. Khor Mor field produces 452 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to Dana Gas.

Thursday’s drone attack on the key gas field has been condemned by several countries, including US, UK and Canada.

The efforts are working on three tracks that include a hostage release and ceasefire, overhauling the Paleostinian Authority, and Saudi normalization with Israel in return for the establishment of a Paleostinian state.

The report says that a number of ideas are being considered, but acknowledges that some of them are "provisional, long shots or strongly opposed by some parties."

Among the ideas being considered is "transferring power within the Paleostinian Authority from the incumbent president, the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

They are also considering sending an "Arab peacekeeping force to Gaza to bolster a new Paleostinian administration there."

They are also considering "passing a UN Security Council resolution, backed by the United States, that would recognize the Paleostinians’ right to statehood," the report says.

"The international court was supposed to at least demand an immediate ceasefire, but unfortunately it didn’t," said Ahmad al-Zinaty.

"We’re really disappointed because it’s like saying this aggression can continue. It’s a pity."

Seham al-Emawi, a displaced person from Beit Hanoun, also said the court’s decision was not what people expected.

"Most of the displaced people are civilians, including children. We hoped that the decision would reflect that we’re human beings. Human beings being exposed to ethnic cleansing — and we should be treated as such," she said.

Israel pressures Qatar over Gaza hostages ahead of spy chiefs' meeting

fighters holding them.

The unusually blunt remarks came on the eve of what Rooters sources have described as a meeting among the Qatari prime minister and intelligence chiefs from Israel, the United States and Egypt to discuss a potential new deal to free hostages.

Those talks were expected to take place in an undisclosed location in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
on Sunday, the sources said. Officials from the four countries have not formally confirmed the meeting, however.

"Qatar hosts the leaders of Hamas. It also funds Hamas. It has leverage over Hamas," Netanyahu said in a televised news conference. "So they should be so good as to apply their pressure. They positioned themselves as mediators - so please go right ahead, let them be so good as to bring back our hostages."

Qatar and Egypt have open channels to Israel and Hamas, and brokered a November truce in which Hamas freed some of the 253 people it seized in an October 7 cross-border rampage that triggered the Gaza war. In return, Israel approved increased aid for the devastated enclave and released scores of Paleostinian prisoners.

Efforts to get a follow-up deal to return at least some of the 132 remaining hostages appear to be flagging, and protests in Israel demanding that the government do more are spreading.

There was no immediate Qatari response to Netanyahu's comments. On Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry in Doha said it was "appalled" by remarks by Netanyahu, leaked to Israeli TV, in which he described himself as refraining from thanking Qatar for its mediation and deemed the gas-rich emirate "problematic".

Asked in his Saturday briefing about that exchange, Netanyahu said: "I don't take back a single word."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran dismisses European condemnation of satellite launch
[Yahoo] Iran on Saturday dismissed three European countries’ condemnation of its launch of the Soraya satellite, saying peaceful technological advancement in the aerospace field was the country’s legitimate right.

France, Germany and Britain on Friday condemned the launch of the Soraya last week using the Ghaem-100 Space Launch Vehicle (SLV).

The SLV uses technology essential for the development of a long-range ballistic missile system, which could also allow Tehran to launch longer-range weapons, the countries said in a joint statement.

“Such interventionist statements,” said foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani in a post on X, “will not make a dent in Iran’s determination to advance in science and technology.”

Iran, he said, “considers the use of peaceful technologies” as its given right.

Last week, the Soraya satellite, which is being developed by the research arm of the civilian Iranian Space Agency, was put into a 750 km (470 mile) orbit, the highest successfully reached by Iran, according to Iranian media.

The 50 kg (110 lb) satellite was launched by the Qaem 100, a three-stage solid-fuel rocket built by the elite military Revolutionary Guards, they said.

Tehran denies U.S. assertions that such activity is a cover for ballistic missile development and says it has never pursued the development of nuclear weapons.

Iran, which has one of the biggest missile programmes in the Middle East, has suffered several failed satellite launches in recent years due to technical issues.
