Anti-cop Minnesota Democratic party official left bloodied in violent carjacking ‐ now calls for tougher crime laws
[NYP] A Minnesota Democratic—Farmer—Labor Party official who once vowed to "dismantle" the Minneapolis Police Department is now calling for tougher crime laws after she was beaten and bloodied in a carjacking outside of her home this week.

Shivanthi Sathanandan, the Second Vice Chairwoman for the DFL, shared news of her attack in a Wednesday Facebook post, where she fumed that the four young suspects need to be brought to justice.

"I have a broken leg, deep lacerations on my head, bruising, and cuts all over my body. And I have rage," wrote Sathanandan, who said the beating occurred in front of her 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

"These men knew what they were doing. I have NO DOUBT they have done this before. Yet they are still on OUR STREETS. Killing mothers. Giving babies psychological trauma that a lifetime of therapy cannot ease. With no hesitation and no remorse," Sathanandan continued.

Included in the post was a selfie of Sathanandan, showing blood pouring down the right side of her face.

-Great Cultural Revolution
Dr Jean Twenge: Gen Z aren't OK
[Spectator] There’s never been an older generation that didn’t complain about the younger one. Parents tut and fuss over errant youth. That’s the way of it. But in the end the kids come around. Swingers grow into Karens. The wild child pays his bills.

But kids these days... they do seem different. It’s not just that we, the older generations, are worried about them, but that they’re desperately worried about themselves. And according to Dr Jean Twenge, a psychologist at San Diego State University who studies generational changes, we’re right to worry. Almost 30 per cent of American girls have clinical depression and it’s the same across the Anglosphere. The suicide rate for ten- to 24-year-olds has tripled. ’Let that sink in,’ writes Twenge in the introduction to her new book, Generations. ’Imagine if nine domestic airline flights filled with ten- to 24-year-olds crashed every single year killing everyone on board. Airplanes would not be allowed to fly again until we figured out why.’

Twenge (51, Gen X) began looking at the differences between generations as a 22-year-old doctoral student. She documented the rise in individualism that began with the baby boomers and continued with millennials. But it wasn’t until 2012 that she noticed the data really beginning to change. ’There were abrupt shifts in teen behaviours and emotional states. The gentle slopes of the line graphs became steep mountains and sheer cliffs and many of the distinctive characteristics of the millennial generation began to disappear. In all my analyses of generational data — some reaching back to the 1930s — I had never seen anything like it.’

In 2017 she published a book about this distressed generation — ’iGen’, as she called them — and identified the smartphone as the culprit. Now, six years later, iGen is more widely known as Gen Z, and Twenge’s theories are as good as proved. In her latest book she has crunched the data from polls and surveys involving 39 million people both in the USA and in the UK. ’The datasets don’t reveal their secrets easily,’ she says. But when they do, it’s not pretty.

’There are some trends for young adults that are very strong and sudden that we have to start talking about,’ Twenge says. ’Two of those with Gen Z are the enormous rise in depression and self-harm, and that shows up in UK samples as well.’ Are you sure the smartphones are to blame, I ask — isn’t the world just a bleaker place?

The more hours a day a teen spends on social media, the more likely it is that he or she is depressed. Some of the best data on that comes from a cohort study in the UK, says Twenge.

US Southern Command cancels 'Sound of Freedom' screenings
[JustTheNews] Released on July 4, the film is based on the true story of Department of Homeland Security Agent Tim Ballard, who left his post to rescue the victims of child human-and-sex trafficking.

The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has cancelled two planned screenings of the anti-trafficking film "Sound of Freedom," which has become an unexpected blockbuster hit.

Released on July 4, the film is based on the true story of Department of Homeland Security Agent Tim Ballard, who left his post to rescue the victims of child human-and-sex trafficking. Jim Caviezel stars as Ballard. SOUTHCOM was originally slated to screen the film on Aug. 28 and Oct. 19, The Hill reported. U.S. Army Garrison-Miami (USAG-M) intended to screen the film to educate personnel about the relevant issue that sometimes affects the military command.

Army Col. Emanuel Ortiz confirmed the cancellations to the The Hill, saying "a determination was made to cancel the screenings ... Individuals interested in viewing the film can still do so at a local theater of their choosing. The now canceled screening was intended to help raise awareness of the nexus between [transnational criminal organizations] and human rights abuses they frequently commit as part of their human smuggling activities."

"Sound of Freedom" has faced considerable scrutiny from legacy and left-wing media, who have repeatedly attempted to tie the film to QAnon conspiracy theories. Law enforcement officials, however, have contended that the problem of human trafficking is a monumental issue facing federal agencies.

"This is a wildfire. I haven't seen Sound of Freedom," former FBI Intelligence Chief Kevin Brock said in an August appearance on the "Just the News, No Noise" television show. "But I can almost assure your audience that whatever they saw there is worse in reality. And human trafficking, the exploitation of children is so mind numbingly devastating that it's hard to watch."

Liberty Safe Gave FBI Access Code to January 6 Protester's Safe; after public outcry, LS changed policy
Not as big as Apple I guess.
Or political parody is bigger than terrorism.

[Breitbart] Liberty Safe announced Tuesday they cooperated with the FBI by giving them an access code that allowed agents to get into a safe owned by Nathan Hughes during a raid.

Liberty Safe describes themselves thus: “Liberty Safe has built America’s most trusted gun safes for sale for over 30 years. Our unyielding commitment to high-quality gun safes has made Liberty the premier choice for millions of Americans. You are always protected with a Liberty gun safe with superior fire protection, exclusive military-style locking bars, and unmatched security features.”

But those security features were overridden by an access code Liberty Safe provided to the FBI, which conducted a raid on Hughes’ home over January 6 participation allegations and arrested him.

The Hodge twins used an X post to indicate they know Hughes personally and they described the FBI raid on his home, including Liberty Safe’s cooperation with the FBI:

Last week, a friend of ours was raided by the feds over J6, his name is Nathan Hughes and he’s from Fayetteville, Arkansas. Nate was raided by the FBI and arrested at gun point. His girlfriend (who just had a miscarriage) was held at gun point and put in handcuffs. The FBI turned off his security cameras, unplugged his internet, and flipped his house upside down in a search. The feds called the manufacturer of his Liberty Gun Safe and got the passcode to get into it too.

All for protesting at the Capitol over 2 1/2 years ago. He is being charged with crimes related to January 6th.

He didn’t assault anyone and he didn’t vandalize anything. He is being labeled a domestic terrorist and a traitor to his country by woke leftists and the media.

Nate is just like us…he’s an outspoken American Patriot…he loves freedom, loves his country, and would do anything to preserve our rights. He’s been fighting to save our country for years now.

He’s also a small business owner with a family that relies on him.

We all know how heated this political climate is getting, but they’ve pushed too far and it’s time for people to speak up for people getting screwed by the system. BLM and Antifa can go burn down our cities and get off the hook, but Trump supporters get raided and rounded up for protesting.

Liberty Safe claimed they had “had no knowledge of any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time” that the FBI requested a code to get into the safe.

Liberty Safe added, “Liberty Safe is devoted to protecting the personal property and 2nd amendment rights of our customers and has repeatedly denied requests for access codes without a warrant in the past. We do not give out combinations without proper legal documentation being provided by authorities.”

Liberty Safe issues apology, change in policy after handing backdoor access to the FBI

[NotTheBee] Yesterday, Liberty Safe landed in major hot water when many accused the company of sacrificing the security of their customers and bending to the feds with no pushback.

After their absolutely BRUTAL online treatment yesterday, Liberty Safe is attempting to do a little damage control.

I'm going to summarize this for you:

  • Liberty Safes followed industry standards and always kept backdoor access to their safes. Until this case, this was never a problem. Now, however, they know they messed up. From now on, if you don't want Liberty to have access to your safe, you can opt out of the backdoor access code program and Liberty will expunge the records of your safe's code.

  • ALSO, for new customers, they will have the choice upon purchase whether or not to have this backup code in case of an emergency.

  • ALSO ALSO, Liberty is not going to hand over these codes at a mere request from law enforcement, but instead require a subpoena and legal compulsion.

#6  So if they didn't provide the access code, the FBI would (1) get a court order, or (2) have the lock drilled. It would still have been over in a few hours.
My sister in law had to have the lock drilled in my late brother's safe when she couldn't find the combo. The guy rolled in his mag drill on a dolly, set up, and three hours later said, "that'll be $500 please."

Opposition leaders in Ethiopia's Tigray 'arrested' ahead of rally
[Garowe] Sixteen opposition figures in Æthiopia's troubled Tigray were arrested ahead of planned protests against the region's ruling party, an opposition official said on Wednesday.

They include the heads of three opposition parties, who were detained on Tuesday and held for a day before being released, said Hailu Kebede of the Salsay Weyane Tigray (SaWeT) party.

The arrests took place as the leaders and party activists drove around in vehicles equipped with loudspeakers urging people to join a protest on Thursday, he told AFP.

The political challenge to the TPLF -- the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) -- comes as the region emerges from a bloody two-year war.

The conflict began when Æthiopia's federal government ordered an offensive against the TPLF, a former guerrilla group that dominated Æthiopia's complex politics for 27 years.

In November 2022, the TPLF and the federal government signed a peace deal that brought the curtain down on a conflict that inflicted a huge toll on lives and damage.

A senior TPLF official has been appointed head of the region's interim government, which faces mountainous challenges ranging from distributing aid to restoring essential services.

In the post-deal turbulence, three Tigrayan parties -- the SaWeT, Baytona, and the Tigray Independence Party last month set up a coalition called the Alliance for Radical Change.

Thursday's demonstration in the regional capital Mekele was called to highlight accusations against the TPLF of incompetence and autocracy.

The TPLF-controlled municipal authorities have said they are refusing to authorize the protest.

They say there is a lack of available police ahead of the Æthiopian New Year festivities on September 12.

But, said Hailu, "The TPLF... does not want alternative voices to be heard."

"They want to control everything. They don't want their authority to be challenged, they don't want the international community to see an alternative in Tigray."

"If you want to hold a peaceful demonstration, you just have to inform the authorities," he added.

"We don't need any authorization... that's the law of this country as well as international practices."

Mekele's deputy mayor, Elias Kahsay, said on Facebook on Wednesday that the protest risked spiraling into a "riot" and called on the public to oppose it.

A front man for the Tigray's interim administration did not respond to an AFP request for comment.

Nigeria's opposition vows to appeal presidential election verdict
[AFRICANEWS] Nigeria's main opposition candidates said Thursday that they will head to the Supreme Court to challenge President Bola Tinubu's victory, after their initial challenge was dismissed by a tribunal on Wednesday.

Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party and Labour Party's Peter Obi, who came second and third respectively, had asked the court to cancel the election, alleging everything from vote fraud to failure by the electoral agency to post results electronically. They wanted Tinubu to be disqualified.

"Our clients are dissatisfied with the judgement just delivered and we have the firm instruction of our client to challenge the judgement on appeal. The court has promised us that possibly by tomorrow, we are going to get a copy of the judgement, also to have us to swing into action," said Livy Uzoukwu, lead counsel to Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

In a verdict read over several hours, Judges rejected all claims made by Labour Party candidate Obi, including fraud. No legal challenge to the outcome of a presidential election has succeeded in Nigeria, which returned to democracy in 1999 after three decades of almost uninterrupted military rule.

"There are certain things, certain principles of law that we know that we need to explore, and we strongly believe that when we get to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court will have the opportunity to review a number of things that have been said here today. So, we have the instructions of our client as soon as possible to go to the Supreme Court," said Chris Uche, lead lawyer to the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.

In a nation of more than 200 million people, of whom 87 million were registered to vote, Tinubu garnered just 8.79 million votes, the fewest of any president since the return to democracy.

The household appliances spying on YOU: How doorbells, smart speakers, TVs and washing machines capture and share private data with firms such as Google and TikTok - so which are worst offenders?
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Everyday devices like smart speakers, doorbell cameras, TVs and even washing machines are spying on families, it has been revealed.

Research shows that standard household amenities are capturing and sharing private information with big tech firms such as Google, as well as Amazon, Facebook and TikTok.

It is believed the firms and their business partners are using the information to target people with advertising on smartphones and other devices.

The findings by Which? found companies appear to gather far more data than is needed for the product to function.

Google Nest smart home products, which include security cameras, smart speakers, doorbell cameras, heating control systems, gather a huge amount of location information on people who connect via smartphones using its Android operating system.

By contrast, these same Nest products gather much less information when the users connect to them via Apple's iPhones.

Which? said: 'It is not known why this additional data is collected. However, Google's primary business is advertising and marketing, whereas Apple currently focuses on selling hardware.'

Experts looked at what information the devices require to set up an account, what data permissions their apps request and what activity marketing companies are tracking on people's products.

Smart speakers are only supposed to listen when you want them to, but this is not always the extent of data collection.

For example, Bose smart speakers share user data with Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

Ezviz smart cameras and doorbells, which are sold by major retailers including Argos, had by far the most active tracking software.

This included sharing information with TikTok's business marketing unit, as well as Pangle, which is a leading video advertising platform, Huawei, Google and Meta.

Every single smart camera and doorbell brand used tracking services from Google, while Blink and Ring also connected to parent company Amazon.

Which? said the spy and tracking functions are automatically activated by default. Consumers can opt out, but this requires changing the settings and could lead to aspects of the device or app no longer working.

Most smart TV menus are flooded with adverts, some personalised based on user data. While tracking is optional, Which? found that LG, Samsung and Sony bundle this up into an 'accept all' button.

Kroger, Albertsons plan to sell over 400 stores to C&S Wholesale for nearly $2 billion: Report
[USA Today] Kroger and Albertsons supermarkets are in talks to sell more than 400 stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers for nearly $2 billion as part of their proposed $25 billion merger, according to a report from Reuters.

The divestiture, which was first reported to be in the works on Tuesday by Bloomberg, is part of a move to mollify antitrust regulators at the Federal Trade Commission.

Kroger and Albertsons plan to sell stores that are in the Pacific Northwest, the Mountain states and in California, Texas, Illinois, and the East Coast, Reuters reported. A deal could be announced as early as this week.

Kroger and Albertsons outlined the potential sale of 100 to 375 stores when they first announced their proposal in 2022. They have since disclosed they would cap divested stores at 650 locations.

Kroger and Albertsons declined to comment Wednesday and officials with C&S did not respond to emails from the USA TODAY Network seeking comment on the potential deal.

US Power Companies Warn of Dangerous Transformer Supply Chain Issues
[TransformersMagazine] Power companies have issued warnings about dangerous transformer shortages in the USA.

US power companies are raising the alarm about a potential energy crisis. Transformers are crucial to the grid because they change the voltage of electricity to make it usable. However, energy trade groups warn that the nation can’t count on aging transformers to keep the power on. Also, if transformers blow during storms, it could take more than a year for power companies to get new ones due to the supply chain shortage. ERMCO estimates that, in case a storm blows enough transformers in a city with no reserves, it could take several weeks to bring the lights back on.

#5  The large utility transformers take an incredibly long time to make. Just doing the precision winding on the cores might take a couple of weeks of 24/7 operation.

And if something goes wrong during that process, another day or two to unwind (operation doesn't have to be quite as precise) and then start all over again.

Silent Spreader Narrative Blown; Mask Mandates Not Needed
[Epoch Times] In a blow to the COVID-19 "silent spreader" narrative that has been used to push for universal masking, including controversially among schoolchildren, a recent study published in The Lancet suggests that people who are non-symptomatic rarely have the ability to infect others.

Silent transmission is the idea that those who are infected with COVID-19 but show no symptoms can still spread the virus to other people. A number of early studies—in some cases affected by limitations that may have led to their proportion of presymptomatic transmission to be "artifactually inflated"—suggested that silent transmission accounted for around half of secondary infections, or even more.

Initially, "we didn’t realize the extent of asymptotic spread," Dr. Fauci said in July 2020, adding that later, "we fully realized that there are a lot of people who are asymptomatic who are spreading infection. So it became clear that we absolutely should be wearing masks consistently," Dr. Fauci said at the time.

The new study, published in the August issue of The Lancet’s Microbe journal, shows that people who are sick with COVID-19 but don’t show any symptoms have a limited ability to spread the virus to other people.

Participants in the British study, which was carried out by researchers at Imperial College London, were unvaccinated healthy adults aged 18-30 who were intentionally infected with COVID-19.

The subjects were monitored under controlled circumstances while self-reporting symptoms three times per day, and researchers collected nose and throat swabs from them daily, checking for the presence of the virus.

Another study from July 2020 called "The Implications of Silent Transmission for the Control of COVID-19 Outbreaks" went even further, suggesting that people were most infectious during the presymptomatic phase and concluding that silent transmission was the "primary driver of COVID-19 outbreaks and underscore the need for mitigation strategies, such as contact tracing, that detect and isolate infectious individuals prior to the onset of symptoms." That study relied on a range of assumptions and models, with different presymptomatic, asymptomatic, and symptomatic transmission rates calculated based on a complex mathematical model from another study.

Findings from earlier studies like the ones cited above led public health officials to argue that silent spreaders were a big factor in COVID-19 transmission and so to recommend that everyone should mask up.

Archaeologists discover a mummy that is more than a thousand years old in Peru
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] In Peru, archaeologists have unearthed a thousand-year-old mummy

The mummy of an adult who died and was buried over a thousand years ago was discovered by archaeologists in Peru. This was reported by Reuters on September 6.

In Peru, archaeologists have unearthed a thousand-year-old mummy
According to the head of the group of archaeologists Mirella Ganoza , the mummy was found in the south of Lima on the territory of Huaca Puklana in the rich residential area of Miraflores.

“This is an adult in a sitting position with bent legs,” the archaeologist clarified and added that the mummy has long hair, and her jaw is almost completely preserved. The remains were found along with ceramic vessels, textiles and other items.

As Ganoza explained, the man whose remains were found by archaeologists, in all likelihood, lived a thousand years ago, at the dawn of the Ichsma culture, which arose on the central coast of modern Peru around 1100 AD. e., before the arrival of the Incas in this area. Considering that this is not the first such discovery on the territory of Huaca Puklana, experts suggest that much more valuable artifacts can be found in this place.

Earlier, IA Regnum reported that the tomb of the ancient Inca era was discovered under a residential building in the center of the capital of Peru, Lima. According to experts, the nobility rests in the tomb, since the remains are wrapped in cloth, and ceramic products and various decorations are placed next to them.

France unveils lunar rover to orbit Mars
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The National Center for Space Research of France (CNES) presented a lunar rover, which in 2027 will be sent into Mars orbit to study the satellites of the "red planet". On Thursday, September 7, Agence France-Presse reported.

“We don’t have the slightest idea of its behavior on this as yet little studied surface. The images he has collected can help scientists shed light on the history of the solar system and the environment on Mars,” Patrick Michel , who is in charge of developing the rover, told AFP .

The Idefix mobile rover, jointly developed by CNES and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), weighs 25 kilograms. In early 2027, he will have to collect surface samples from Mars' moon Phobos.

As IA Regnum reported , on September 7, Japan launched the first H2A carrier rocket with a SLIM lunar lander. The launch was carried out from the Tanegashima cosmodrome, located in Kagoshima Prefecture. The broadcast was conducted on the official website of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

All ICBM's and almost all IRBM's are hypersonic. It's a the nature of the platform. They have to go that fast.
In this instance the launch profile has been changed from vertical to shallow. The actual practical breakthough has to be in the bus steerability and processing for the triginometry of low grazing angles.

Born Pregnant: Doctors discover fetus in toddler's stomach.
[Jpost] Mushtaq Muhammad and his surgical team were in the midst of an operation when they stumbled upon an unexpected phenomenon—a human fetus inside a toddler's stomach.

While this bizarre occurrence may seem enigmatic, there is a rational explanation behind it.

SO, WHAT HAPPENED?
The distressed baby, who had endured prolonged stomach pains, was brought to Sadiqabad Hospital in Pakistan by her concerned parents. Extensive tests were conducted, leading the medical staff to believe they had identified a tumor in her abdomen that could be remedied through surgical intervention.

However, during the course of the surgery, an astonishing revelation came to light: the presumed tumor had been developing within the 10-month-old's abdomen since her birth, causing her excruciating pain.

"At the onset of the operation, everything appeared to be proceeding routinely," the surgeon said in article published by The Sun. "Yet, two hours later, we discovered it was not a tumor but rather a twin of the toddler, who had been trapped within her womb during her fetal stage. This intriguing medical phenomenon is recognized as 'disappearing fetus syndrome.'"

Remarkably, this case is reported to occur in approximately one in 500,000 births, as documented in the Journal of Surgical findings.
