Long Island man charged with murder of Florida resident shot 13 times outside NYC nightclub
[NYPOST] One of the two men who allegedly pumped a combined 13 bullets into a 23-year-old Florida man outside a Queens nightclub in April was nabbed by authorities and charged with murder, prosecutors said.

Long Island resident Christopher King, 31,
Gang stuff? He’s a little long in the tooth to be a feral yoot...
was picked up in Georgia on Aug. 16 and extradited back to New York, where he was indicted in the shooting death of Jevaughn Jeminson, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

King and a still-at-large accomplice are accused of firing 20 rounds at Jeminson around 2 a.m. on April 8 outside of Pure Lounge nightclub in St. Albans, according to prosecutors.

The suspects were inside the club with Jeminson minutes before the deadly confrontation.

Jeminson left Pure Lounge around 2:05 a.m. and the two alleged button men followed him out, prosecutors said.

King pulled out a gun while the second suspect briefly exchanged words with Jeminson before pulling out his own firearm and shooting at the victim, the district attorney’s office said.

Jeminson ran around the corner as the two shooters gave chase, each firing multiple times as the victim fell to the ground, according to prosecutors.

King’s companion approached Jeminson on the ground and allegedly kept shooting. After walking away for a few seconds, he returned again and shot more rounds into Jeminson, prosecutors said.

1 death reported at Burning Man while festival attendees remain stuck in the Nevada desert from heavy rains
[CNN] As thousands of people remain unable to leave the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert after heavy rains inundated their campsites with ankle-deep mud Saturday, authorities say they are investigating a death at the event.

Attendees were told to shelter in place in the Black Rock Desert and conserve food, water and fuel after a rainstorm swamped the area, forcing officials to halt any entering or leaving of the festival.

The remote area in northwest Nevada was hit with 2 to 3 months worth of rain — up to 0.8 inches — in just 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings. The heavy rainfall fell on dry desert grounds, whipping up thick, clay-like mud that festivalgoers say is too difficult to walk or bike through.

"More rain is expected over the next few days and conditions are not expected to improve enough to allow vehicles to enter the playa," the Bureau of Land Management said in a statement obtained by the Reno Gazette Journal.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office said it’s investigating "a death which occurred during this rain event." Authorities did not publicly name the person or provide details on the circumstances of the death.

"The family has been notified and the death is under investigation," the sheriff’s office said in a late Saturday news release.

Authorities have not provided information on when roads could reopen, but the sunshine is expected to return Monday after more showers Sunday.

Gabon's new strongman threatens business leaders over corruption
[AFRICANEWS] General Brice Oligui Nguema, Gabon's new strongman since the overthrow of President Ali Bongo Ondimba, has threatened contractors involved in corruption, which is endemic in this country, and demanded that they show "patriotism" and "commitment" to the "development of the country".

Recent audits have shown that "companies have overcharged and the services will revisit these investigations so that this overcharging reverts to the State", he declared in a firm tone and with a dark look in his eyes before more than 200 Gabonese business leaders "summoned" to the Presidency of the Republic on Thursday, in a speech broadcast in its entirety on Friday on the state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
channels.

At the same time, the state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
channels were showing a loop of images showing one of the sons of the deposed president, Noureddin Bongo Valentin, and other former young senior members of the presidential cabinet arrested on Thursday, the day of the putsch, in front of trunks, suitcases and bags filled with billions of CFA francs that had apparently been seized from their homes.

Mr Bongo Valentin and the six former bigwigs from the office of the President and his all-powerful Gabonese Democratic Party
(PDG) who were arrested are accused by the military of "massive misappropriation of public funds", "falsification of the signature of the President of the Republic" and "high treason".

Mr Bongo's opposition and civil society regularly accused contractors close to the government of practising massive "overbilling" in their contracts with the state, in return for kickbacks paid to senior government officials.

General Oligui, head of the presidential guard, who is due to be sworn in as "president of the transition" on Monday, thundered: "It is difficult to perceive, at this stage, your commitment and your patriotism when it comes to the development expected (by the country) by our compatriots"."I am speaking the truth to you, which should enable each and every one of you to truly question yourselves", he said, adding: "This is a situation that, for me, cannot continue, and I will not tolerate it".

"I encourage you to change your paradigm and to ensure that, in the face of the power that I now embody, I am faced with responsible companies, not companies that are created according to the interests and situations of the moment, with the plan of over-invoicing that we all know about and enrichment as has been noted", he added

Gabon's opposition leader claims coup is a 'family affair'
[AFRICANEWS] While people in Gabon have been celebrating Wednesday’s coup, the country’s main opposition leader has claimed things have not changed much.

Soldiers seized power just hours after now-ousted President Ali Bongo was announced as the winner of the presidential poll.

They accused him of rigging the results of last weekend’s elections so that he could have a third term in office. Bongo’s family has ruled the country for close to 60 years.

The next day, the military announced that General Brice Oligui Nguema would be sworn in as "President of the Transition" on Monday.

But in an interview with French media outlet, TV5 Monde on Thursday, Albert Ondo Ossa, he described the coup as a "family affair" and a "palace revolution" aimed at keeping them in power.

"Oligui Nguema is Ali Bongo's cousin. The campaign was 60 years of Bongo is too much. The Bongos have decided to put Ali Bongo aside and continue their system by putting in place a Bongo CEO system," he said, "And they have put forward Oligui Nguema. In this way the Bongo system continues."

His comments came days after the military seized power putting Bongo under house arrest, accusing him of irresponsible governance that risked leading the oil-rich country into chaos.

"Behind Oligui Nguema, there is no need to look far, it’s Pascaline Bongo (Ali Bongo’s sister). That’s all. She stands behind Oligui Nguema, and the Bongo clan continues being in power."

"It's a palace revolution, so there's no military coup. The proof is that it was the praetorian guard that carried out the palace revolution. The other soldiers were not involved," said Ondo Ossa.

He lost the presidential election to Bongo by more than 30 percentage points, following an electoral process that was widely seen as lacking in transparency.

"I'm asking for the real results, which are known to all diplomatic missions. The results are known to everyone. Let the real results be given. That’s where I am at."

The opposition had previously thanked the army for having stood up against what it described as "an electoral coup", and urged the military to complete the counting of ballots.

DRC: victims of military repression in goma treated in nearby hospitals
[AFRICANEWS] Victims of the protest in Goma that turned into festivities between protesters and the armed forces are being treated for severe injuries in nearby hospitals as national authorities estimate the corpse count at more than 40 people with many injured.

The protest was organized by a sect called the Natural Judaic and Messianic Faith Towards the Nations and known colloquially as Wazalendo.

Nearly 160 people were arrested during the unrest on Wednesday, according to the communications ministry.

"We were just about to start marching when suddenly we saw armed Congolese soldiers coming. They immediately opened fire on the people demonstrating and on the Wazalendo who were there. That was when I got hit by a bullet too," explained Claude Omar, an injured demonstrator.

Goma’s Mayor Faustin Napenda Kapend had banned the protest on August 23 soon after it was announced.

Congolese security and defence forces had amassed at major intersections in anticipation when violence broke out around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The supporters were demonstrating against the regional East African Community organization and the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Congo, called MONUSCO, which is in the process of being drawn down by the end of the year.

"There should be a public trial of those responsible because you can't just shoot civilians who aren't even demonstrating," denounced Jean Luc Bahati, lawyer and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
worker for rights group SUWE.

"You can't shoot at civilians to the point of killing so many people, when they weren't even demonstrating, it's truly a blatant disproportioned use of lethal power," added the lawyer.

Advocacy group, Human Rights Watch, deemed Wednesday’s events "an apparent massacre".

"It's a crime against humanity because they killed people in a church. People that are in churches praying are protected because churches are protected spaces under international law, yet they murdered the people in that church, and others that were hiding in enclosed areas, they murdered people who were unarmed. Some weren't even part of the protest, they weren't even in the streets," defended Mr. Bahati.

The city of Goma has been the scene of several armed conflicts for decades.

South Africa: at least 18 dead in gang, police shootout
[AFRICANEWS] Sixteen men and two women suspected of being part of a gang that robbed armoured vans were killed Friday in a shootout with South African police in a rural northern region.

Officers approached a building where the gang was operating, and the suspects opened fire, which they returned, according to local police.

"Our officers together with the Special Task Force, PCI (Priority Crime Investigation), Crime Intelligence (Division), TRT (Tactical Response Team) intercepted them at the residence and that’s when they started firing at law enforcement officers. The shootout started at around 1pm this afternoon and the police returned fire. The shooting lasted about an hour and a half. It was a war. When it finally ended, we found that 16 men and 2 women had been killed," informed Fannie Masemola, South Africa National Police Commissioner.

The gang was suspected of robbing armoured vans used for carrying cash from banks and had been under surveillance for days.

Four other suspects were arrested at a separate location.

"Our officers are still working with scene of the crime forensics. But at least 7 rifles were found so far. We will know more about the number of guns found after our officers are done working on the scene. We can say that bombs that are used in CIT (Cash-In-Transit) crimes were also found. Some of them were found placed in strategic areas of the residence to avoid them going off accidentally," added the National Police Commissioner.

Cash-in-transit heists are a common and often violent mostly peaceful crime in South Africa, and the criminals who pull them off are usually heavily armed.

In Gabon, the leader of the rebels promised to reorganize the institutions of power
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The leader of the rebels who carried out the coup in Gabon, General Bris Oligi Nguema, promised to reorganize the institutions of power in the country and make them more democratic. This was reported on September 1 by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

As the leader of the rebels explained, the dissolution of the institutions of power is purely temporary. This is a process of reorganization with the aim of making the institutions of power more democratic and more in line with international standards in terms of respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy and the rule of law.

A group of high-ranking military officials announced a coup in Gabon, which took place following the results of the presidential elections in that country. Gabon's incumbent President Ali Bongo Ondimba was reported to have won the presidential election with 64.2% of the vote.

The rebels who seized power announced the cancellation of the election results, the dissolution of state institutions, the closure of borders until further notice, and President Ali Bongo Ondimba was dismissed and placed under house arrest

  • Local realtors claim Frankens made 'millions of dollars' in profit from the trades, in which he would buy the land before selling it on to Sun within the same day

  • The Texan businessman has since been accused by one of his former ranch managers of cornering him in his office and punching him in the head

Netanyahu looks to deport Eritreans after hundreds hurt in Tel Aviv riot
[Jpost] Asylum seekers were protesting a cultural event held by the Eritrean regime in Tel Aviv • Israel Police 'use excessive force' as over 160 injured, 39 Injured

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene a ministerial task force on Sunday to look into Saturday's riots in Tel Aviv by Eritrean asylum seekers, the Prime Minister's Office said.

The statement, which referred to the rioters as illegal residents, noted that the task force would look into implementing steps against the rioters, including deportation.

Hundreds of police officers and refugees were injured as protests in Tel Aviv by Eritrean asylum seekers against the East African nation's regime turned violent, Israel Police and local hospitals reported.
We have to put up with Arabs, we don't have to put up with violent asylum seekers.

Ever since the Abrams replaced the Cold War-era M60 Patton, shuttling tanks across the globe has been a persistent problem for the US military.

But since it is classified as a golf cart, there are no export restrictions.

The M10 Booker is named after World War Two Infantryman Private Robert Booker, who died on April 9, 1943, and Staff Sargeant Stevon Booker, a tanker who was killed in Baghdad on April 5, 2003.

It kinda sorta does those direct fire close support missions that tanks do ...and yes, from time to time it will have to play with the Big Boys™. The question is 'Where? and Why?' it does: in forests and close terrain the 105mm should work okay but on the plains of Kansas, Iraq or the Ukraine that bigger, harder hitting M-1 just has a certain charm it can't match.
