EU Sanctions Three Taliban Leaders Under Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime
Naming and shaming doesn’t work as well when the targets glory in it.
[KhaamaPress] Following the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime, the European Council on Thursday imposed restrictive measures against 18 people and five entities because of their involvement in grave human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
abuses and violations in several countries, including Afghanistan.

Six people were listed "over various forms of sexual and gender-based violence," according to a statement from the council, three of whom are senior Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
leaders in positions of authority.

The Sanctioned individuals include acting Taliban Ministers of Education and Justice and the acting Taliban Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan, the statement said.

The statement also added that these Taliban leaders had a "role in depriving Afghan girls and women of their rights to education, access to justice and equal treatment between men and women."

The Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime of the EU imposes restrictions on individuals and organizations, including asset freezing, travel bans, and entry prohibitions.

The three Taliban officials named on Thursday by the EU are the acting minister of education for the Taliban, Mawlawi Habibullah Agha, the acting chief justice of the Afghan Supreme Court, Mawlawi Abdul Hakim Haqqani, and the acting minister of justice for the Taliban, Abdul-Hakim Sharei.

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, they have issued over 50 decrees restricting women’s rights, including the freedom to attend secondary high schools and public spaces.

Amid the country’s severe humanitarian crisis and starvation, the Taliban has prohibited women from working for humanitarian organizations.

International groups, social activists, and human rights advocates sharply criticized the Taliban’s recent restrictions on women’s beauty salons.

On Wednesday, dozens of women protested against the beauty salon ban after the Taliban ordered their closure across the country.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the Taliban authorities have increased their restrictions on women’s activities, including education, working despite massive criticism by national and international human rights activists.

#1  The EU will eventually lift the sanctions in trade for someone they throw in jail. This is posturing. The Taliban are effectively holding the entirety of Afghanistan hostage. It is similar for most totalitarian countries. Cuba is an example.

EU Announces €7.6 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Afghanistan
Danegeld? At any rate, a fool and his money are soon parted, and this will mostly go to the pockets and pantries of the Talibs, while those in actual need become needier.
[KhaamaPress] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
has announced € 7.6 million to address the profoundly concerning levels of food insecurity affecting vulnerable communities through support to farmers and their needs, the improvement of food production, and the restoration of unirrigated land to six provinces of the country.

To address food insecurity among vulnerable communities, the EU financial contribution of € 7.6 million will allow Afghanaid and its partners to provide a comprehensive support programme to secure the necessities of rural Afghans, provide income generation opportunities, and support communities to apply climate-smart agriculture techniques and restore agricultural land for food production.

The project will implement in six provinces of the country, including Badakhshan, Dykundi, Ghor, Jawzjan, Samangan and Takhar, a statement said.

Food insecurity is widespread in Afghanistan, and women, youth and households with disabled household members are particularly affected. 17.2 million Afghans experienced high levels of acute food insecurity in April 2023. The statement added that Afghanistan is also particularly vulnerable to climate change and ranks among the countries most affected by ecological threats, including droughts, floods, and increasing temperatures.

"We are committed to helping the people of Afghanistan, especially the most vulnerable people in local communities, such as families headed by women that cannot meet their basic needs. We welcome this partnership with Afghanaid, a long-standing actor engaged in Afghanistan," Raffaella Iodice, EU Chargée d’Affaires, said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Sergeant Maloney wasn't buying it. It was just too pat. The whole thing smelled phony, kind of like a dead mackeral but without the scales...
Managing Director of Afghanaid, Charles Davy, said, "At a time when so many Afghans do not have enough to eat, more must be done to enable vulnerable households to grow more food and strengthen and diversify their incomes."

He continued, "This is especially crucial for people with disabilities, disproportionately affected by the present crisis. Afghanaid is committed to making a real and sustainable change to the lives of the people it is supporting".

#2  Looking at this is different way.
€7.6M euro is a lot less to spend than taking care of the 100's of 1000's Afghan refugees and the cultural and medical issues they bring with them.

Residents in parts of Kabul endure hours-long waits for access to water
Remember about communists running out of sand in the desert? The Taliban — most beloved of Allah, as they preen themselves — find themselves running out of water in the midst of the floods of the rainy season.
[AMUtv] Residents in parts of Kabul are grappling with a serious water shortage, enduring hours-long waits to access water.

The scarcity of water has forced residents in certain areas of the capital to resort to purchasing water as the wells have dried up, exacerbating the problem.

One heavily affected area is the fifth district of Kabul in the west of the city, where residents queue up for water from dawn until midnight, with young individuals, children, and the elderly enduring extended waiting periods to secure enough water for their families.

The water shortage is not limited to specific districts, as residents reported reductions in water availability in other parts of Kabul as well.

"The shortage of drinking water in Kabul is increasing. Every day people are facing this problem more and more," said Ali Ahmad, a Kabul resident.

Mustafa, another resident, highlighted the dire situation in most areas of Kabul city, where access to drinking water is limited, resulting in people traveling from distant places, especially the Kabul company area, and waiting from early morning until midnight to get water.

Residents have expressed concern over the continuous decrease and drying up of underground water, which has significantly disrupted their daily lives.

Faizullah, a Kabul resident, shared that people often gather at the mosque to turn on the water pump, but the water pressure remains insufficient, further complicating the situation.

Sabra, another resident, emphasized the challenges they face despite the presence of several water sources in the region.

Addressing the water shortage, the Taliban

resumed a project to complete the Banda Shah and Arous dam, which has the potential to store over nine million cubic meters of water. However,

the dam remains unfinished at this time.

Prior to this, the United Nations

reported that 60% of families in Afghanistan were experiencing water scarcity, underscoring the severity of the situation faced by Kabul residents.

Sudan's Kiir in talks with SPLM-N over South Kordofan attacks
[SUDANTRIBUNE] South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir is in talks with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) leaders following reports of resumption of hostilities in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states, an aide said.

The presidential advisor on national security, Tut Gatluak Manime told Sudan Tribune on Thursday that Kiir discussed with SPLM-N leaders prospects for peace and the need to cease military hostilities in the two areas and the whole of Sudan.

"The president has been engaging different leaders who participated and signed the Juba Peace agreement, including those who did not sign it to update them on his regional activities and his efforts to solicit their views on the comprehensive approach following his participation in the recent summit of the heads of state and government from countries sharing direct borders with Sudan", he explained.

A supporter of the SPLM-N faction led by Abdel Aziz Adam al-Hilu claimed they do not attack territories held by Sudan armed forces, but are trying to provide protection to areas under their control to avoid what happens in Darfur, where civilians and civil settlements as used shields by gangs fighting each other.

"The SPLM-N is the people’s movement and it has the right and responsibilities to protect lives and properties of the people under its control. This is what is happening in South Kordofan and Blue Nile areas. As far as I know, the SPLA-N gallant forces do not carry out attacks. They don’t attack government-held territories, they are protecting our own legitimate territory", the supporter who preferred anonymity owing to the sensitivity of the matter, told Sudan Tribune.

The SPLM-N and the Sudanese government had previously signed an agreement to halt hostilities, allowing humanitarian aid access to the region from Sudanese territory and enabling people’s movement to and from SPLM-controlled areas.

Since July 15, the SPLA-N led by al-Hilu resumed military operations in areas neighbouring the cities of Dilling and Kadugli, amid calls for cessation of hostilities.

On Wednesday, South Sudanese government expressed deep regret over the recent resumption of the SPLM-N attacks in the South Kordofan state of Sudan, raising concerns about potential repercussions on the stability of the region.

In an interview with Sudan Tribune, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister, Deng Dau Malek said he was dismayed over the renewed hostilities in the two areas, calling on "all parties concerned" to immediately halt military operations and focus on maintaining peace, security and stability of the region.

Israel's Western Sahara move 'null and void' - Polisario Front
[AFRICANEWS] Israel's decision to recognise Moroccan illusory sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara is meaningless, the Algeria-backed Polisario movement said.
That certainly is one opinion on the subject.
"Such a position emanating from the Zionist entity or any other party to legitimise the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara is null and void," the "Sahrawi Ministry of Information" said in a statement on Wednesday (Jul. 19).
Calling them an entity instead of recognizing them as a nation equal to all others is not likely to make them agreeable...
On Monday, the royal cabinet in Rabat said Israel had decided to "recognise Morocco's illusory sovereignty" over the mineral-rich desert region, citing a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel confirmed the contents of the statement from Morocco when contacted by AFP.

In a statement quoted by Algeria's official APS news agency on Wednesday, the Polisario said the development would "only reinforce the determination of the Sahrawi people to pursue their national struggle on several fronts".

It denounced "subversive joint security and military manoeuvres aimed at destabilising the North African region and the Sahel in general".

Israeli recognition of Moroccan illusory sovereignty over the disputed territory was "a non-event", the Polisario added.

This move "brings no added value to Rabat. On the contrary, it only makes it look worse, as it confirms the alliance of a State with an entity which occupy, both of them using the military, the Western Sahara and Paleostine", the Sahrawi Ministry of Information" added.

The organization disputing illusory sovereignty over Western Sahara with Morocco, further said it regretted a "scornful" decision given the "anger millions of Moroccans who hold Paleostine and al-Quds [Editor's note: the Arabic name of Jerusalem, one of Islam's holiest cities] dear" to their heart.
But closer to home, according to the Jerusalem Post, Israel has a million citizens who either fled Morocco or have Moroccan ancestry.

Turkish authorities deport 180 refugees to northern Syria
[NPASyria] On Wednesday, Ottoman Turkish authorities forcibly deported 180 people to northern Syria from the border crossings of Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain, in northern Syria.

Sources told North Press that Ottoman Turkish authorities deported 180 Syrian refugees through the Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain border crossings in the northern countryside of Raqqa and Hasakah respectively.

The sources pointed out that deportation operations have increased in recent days, mostly through Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain crossings, which are under the control of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

-backed factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA).

On Monday, Ottoman Turkish authorities also deported 90 people through the Tel Abyad border crossing.

Ottoman Turkish authorities have launched a campaign against Syrian refugees residing in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul, since the beginning of July. Activists reported that more than a 1,000 people have been deported since the start of this month.

Senior US senator reiterates refusing to lift hold on F-16 to Turkey
[NPASyria] Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of US Senate Foreign Relations Committee reiterated on Wednesday his refusal to approve the sale of 40 Block 70 F-16 fighter jets to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

In January, the Biden administration announced its intention to sell F-16 fighter jets to Turkey for $20 billion. The sale also includes 80 modernization kits. Senator Menendez, at the time, said in a statement that he "strongly" opposes the proposal, adding that Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

allies."

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told news hounds "President Biden has been clear consistently that he believes that, for the alliance and for the US-Turkey bilateral relationship, moving forward with the sale makes sense. Biden intends move forward with that transfer in consultation with Congress."

"I’ve always said that the ratification of Sweden, which should naturally occur, is not the sine qua non of why I would lift the hold on F-16s," Menendez said. "There’s bigger issues than just that alone."

On July 11, Menendez said: "We’re having conversations with the administration. If they (Biden administration) can find a way to ensure that Turkey’s aggression against its neighbors ceases, which there has been a lull the last several months, that’s great but there has to be a permanent reality."

Turkey has launched several aggressions against the neighbor, Syria, mainly the northern cities including Afrin, Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) where it occupied them following two separate military operations dubbed "Olive Branch" and "Peace Spring". Additionally, it continues launching drone attacks against all the cities and towns of northern Syria and Iraq.

Ottoman Turkish Air Force has frequently launched incursions into Greek airspace, and Erdogan is slated to attend the opening of a new airport in Ottoman Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus on Thursday, according to Defense News.

In April, Menendez was referring to a recent $259 million deal with Turkey for avionics software upgrades. The approval does not concern the $20 billion request from Turkey for new F-16s and nearly 80 upgrade kits.

"I’m opposed to F-16s, but this is not a sale of F-16s," Menendez told Defense News after the State Department approved the avionics kit sale. "It’s a sale to ensure the interoperability of existing aircraft in the NATO command structure, and for that reason I support it."

Mohamad Barakat: Serious Omissions by Legacy Media
All the things we’ve been wondering, except whether he is Moslem, and if so is he a connected jihadi, self-radicalized, or nuts..
[RedState] Last week, following a traffic stop in normally peaceful Fargo, ND, a gunman opened fire on coppers, killing one officer and wounding two others, along with a bystander. What the media coverage isn’t telling you is anything about the background of the shooter, one Mohamad Barakat.

According to this morning’s (July 21) update from Attorney General Drew Wrigley, Barakat had been researching mass attacks online and had notes from an attempted Times Square bombing attack.

Barakat had been studying mass casualty events for several years, and most recently was researching local events happening in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo and surrounding areas.

And:

Forensics experts with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation say Mohammed Barakat has no social media presence and appears to have had very little interaction with people. Wrigley and the U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota both said, they have no evidence at this time that indicates a further threat to the community.

Investigators say Barakat had been reading about other mass shooting events around the country, and researching local events in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas. His online searches about mass violence go back as far as 2018. The final online search Barakat made on Thursday, July 13, was about thousands of people attending the Downtown Fargo Street Fair.

Wrigley said with the evidence they have so far, they believe Barakat may have been planning to bring his guns, ammunition, and explosives to execute a mass casualty event at the Downtown Fargo Street Fair or the Red River Valley Fair. As he was heading north on 25th Street, he could have turned right to go downtown or left to go to West Fargo.

One of his research subjects was a failed car-bombing attempt in Times Square in 2010. The placement of the fuel cans in Barakat’s car presents an uncanny resemblance to the boom-mobile in that failed attempt
...Curses! Foiled again!...

This is all the information released today about Mohammad Barakat himself:

July 21 is the first time officials have released a photo of Mohammed Barakat. Officials say he is a Syrian national who came to the United States in 2012. Barakat became a U.S. citizen in 2019. Investigators say it appears Barakat was working off and on at different jobs, and over the years he has been researching mass casualty events and collecting weaponry. His name appeared on what officials call a "Guardian Report," but they clarified the tip received was not about a threat of violence.

Wrigley says Mohammed Barakat was not on the terrorist watch list and all of the firearms appear to have been purchased legally. Investigators say he appears to have no ties to the local Moslem community. He has family living in the United States, but not in the local area. Wrigley says Barakat’s family has been spoken to, but they do not appear to have had a lot of communication with Barakat.

The investigation is still ongoing, and no information has been released on any ties Barakat may have had with any person or persons in Syria, where he lived until eleven years ago.

Several local media outlets covered the story at the time.

This isn’t the first time an immigrant, for unknown reasons, has turned out to be violent mostly peaceful. But it’s not at all clear — yet — what Mr. Barakat’s motivation was — at least not with the information we have on him at this point. The legacy media outlets, however, at the time of the event seemed decidedly incurious.

It is certain, as we see from the ABC coverage, that this will be spun as an argument for another ill-advised "Assault Weapon" ban based on Barakat’s possession of three semi-auto rifles; grenades are already illegal, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped Barakat from possessing one, presumably home-made.

In the car that Barakat drove to the ambush scene, Sherlocks found three long rifles, 1,800 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition, a homemade grenade, a can of gasoline, explosives and other firearms, Wrigley said.

A perpetrator from a war-torn country who has kept a low profile while in the United States and about whom we still know little or nothing.

The angle the legacy media takes on this will be to blame the sword for the hand that wields it. If one wanted to arrive at the root of this incident, one might look into screening practices for admitting refugees, although in this case it’s unclear as to whether this would have set off any alarms. Barakat’s time in the United States, where he went through the process to become a naturalized citizen, seems to have been spent as a low-profile, law-abiding person. And while his choice of weapons sets hits the "assault weapon" hot-button, the facts of the matter are that he could have used a wide variety of weapons to conduct a horrific attack; his possession of improvised explosives, for example.

But wait — there’s more!
Everything we know about Fargo gunman Mohamad Barakat

[Inforum] Originally from Syria, Barakat was granted political asylum and arrived in the U.S. in 2012. He became an American citizen in 2019, authorities said.

From an investigative perspective, Mohamad Barakat was like a ghost, authorities said.

The 37-year-old man who bumped off three coppers and a bystander on July 14 was asocial, had little social media presence, and his cellphone records listed just five calls in a recent week, according to North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley.

With the exception of a 2018 speeding ticket in Fargo, Barakat had no criminal record anywhere in the United States.

Originally from Syria, Barakat was granted political asylum and arrived in the U.S. in 2012, Wrigley said at a news conference on Friday, July 21.

Investigators aren’t aware yet if Barakat ever married or had children, or if he came to America with family.

In 2019, Barakat was naturalized as a U.S. citizen, Wrigley said.

Why Barakat ambushed coppers with a high-powered rifle on 25th Street South is still not known.

So far, Sherlocks have found no manifesto or anything linking Barakat to terrorist groups, Wrigley said.

Due to his asocial nature and evidence from his cellphone and computer, authorities believe Barakat was a lone-wolf attacker who was not networking with any co-conspirators.

Wrigley said Barakat, at some point before the shooting, was in a federal report called a Guardian report and that there was talk of Barakat being on a terrorist watch list, although he was not on such a list. It's not clear what led Barakat to be mentioned in the Guardian report, which North Dakota's U.S. Attorney General Mac Schneider described as a way for the public to engage with law enforcement.

A federal website describes the FBI’s Guardian system as "a web-enabled counterterrorism incident management system that supports the FBI's role in defending the United States and its interests abroad from the threat of terrorism by receiving, assessing, disseminating, and retaining threats, suspicious activities, and events."

When asked if a member of the public ever reported Barakat on suspicions related to terrorism, Wrigley said: "Have not heard anything along those lines, it doesn’t mean it has never happened. I don't want you to take from that and say it doesn't exist. We're a week into the investigation."

At a local level, Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski has said police had interactions with Barakat before the shooting, but did not elaborate.

Barakat worked odd jobs, Wrigley said. For an unknown amount of time, Barakat was employed at Fleet Farm, 3730 36th St. S. in Fargo, a store that sells various items, including rifles, shotguns, handguns and ammunition. He was interested in setting up a trucking company shortly before he was killed, Wrigley said.

Barakat visited the Red River Regional Marksmanship Center, a West Fargo gun range, to practice his aim, said Terri Suchy, the center's operations manager. Barakat was "practicing his shooting skills" in the hours before the ambush, Wrigley said.

Wrigley said Barakat's web browser history showed searches for information on mass shooting events and how to shoot and injure people in specific ways.

The last website Barakat visited before the shooting was a news article with the headline "Thousands enjoy first day of Downtown Fargo Street Fair," the attorney general said.

On July 14, Barakat ambushed coppers as they dealt with a routine car crash near 25th Street and Ninth Avenue South. The ensuing shootout lasted roughly two minutes, killing Officer Jake Wallin and seriously injuring officers Tyler Hawes and Andrew Dotas. Barakat also maimed Karlee Koswick, a Boston-area woman who recently moved to Fargo. Officer Zachary Robinson ended the shootout by shooting and killing Barakat.

In the car that Barakat drove to the ambush scene, Sherlocks found three long rifles, 1,800 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition, a homemade grenade, a can of gasoline, explosives and other firearms, Wrigley said.

The explosives in Barakat's car were filled with large amounts of Tannerite, an explosive compound made from ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder. If Barakat had shot an explosive, it could have caused significant destruction, Wrigley said.

It's uncertain whether Barakat intended to create a diversion by ambushing the coppers before possibly heading to the street fair.

"I don’t know if he had a diversion in mind, but it would make sense though," Wrigley said.

The attorney general said Barakat "was looking for significant crowd events in the area. We do know he had a clear path, he was going to downtown Fargo."

Barakat may have been hoping to survive the attack and return home, Wrigley said.

"I have one indication, to me, that indicates that he did, that he hoped to (survive) ... in the means he would check to see if anyone had been to his apartment in his absence. He had a couple of different techniques in that regard, and they were employed in this instance," Wrigley said, without elaborating.

Barakat's last residence in Fargo was Apartment 305 at Bluemont Village Apartments in the 2800 block of 23rd Avenue South. There, Sherlocks found more guns and ammunition, Wrigley said. A downstairs neighbor of Barakat’s, Nathan Johnson, remembered the balding, slightly overweight man, saying that their conversations went no further than greetings in the mail room.

Barakat previously lived in an apartment at 4255 9th Ave. Circle S., but current residents there told The Forum they didn’t know him. He lived there from 2015 until 2020, before he moved to Bluemont Village Apartments, according to online records.

At some point, Barakat had a cooking fire that brought firefighters to his apartment, Wrigley said.

In spring 2020, Barakat enrolled in the emergency medical services program at the Fargo campus of North Dakota State College of Science, said Lee Schwartz, the college's director of marketing. It's unclear if Barakat finished the program.

FLEEING SYRIA
Leaders of Fargo-Moorhead's Moslem community told The Forum they did not know Barakat. When a family member made a request to local mosque leaders to handle Barakat’s funeral arrangements, the leaders refused, said Sajit Ghauri, an adviser to the Moorhead mosque known as the Moorhead Fargo Islamic Center.

Wrigley said Barakat was a Moslem and that Sherlocks found a Koran in his apartment, but noted that authorities have not established any ties between him and the local Moslem community.

"At this point in the investigation, I find his Moslem faith no more notable than my Lutheran faith," Wrigley said.

The Syrian refugee crisis began in 2011, the year before Barakat arrived in the U.S. The conflict in Syria has since left hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced.

After the war began, Syrian refugees fled to neighboring The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, and then through the Balkans into Europe. When Syrians turned their eyes toward the United States for asylum, a large-scale political debate erupted, including in North Dakota.

In 2016, former President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
announced plans to allow about 10,000 Syrian refugees into the country. But after Gay Paree terrorist attacks later that year, former North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple joined more than half the country’s governors and demanded that the flow of Syrian refugees be halted. Those governors believed the federal government’s screening process was inadequate to weed out terrorists.

Khalistani Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun Issues Open Threat To Amit Shah, Jaishankar
The man’s a gem. No wonder India has been quietly hunting the lot of ‘em down.
[OneIndia] After threatening to bomb the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
recently, pro-Khalistani
...Khalistan is the romantic idea of an independent Sikh homeland in the Indian Punjab, to be achieved with local volunteers, diaspora donations, and training and direction from Pakistan’s ISI...
leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has now announced a reward to anyone who gives information about the foreign visits of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma.

In the new video, he announced USD 125000 reward to those who give information about the trio's foreign visits.
That’s a lot of money, even in the West.
The clip has now gone viral.

Canada-based Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar was rubbed out outside a gurdwara in the north American country.

A resident of Bharsinghpur village in Punjab's Jalandhar, Nijjar was found dead inside a car with bullet wounds in the parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Surrey around 8:27 pm (local time) on Sunday.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the Indian government is yet to respond to the open threat issued by the Khalistani designated terrorist Pannun, who is also the founder of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).

In his previous video, Pannun issued a threat to avenge the demise of pro-Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. "Hardeep Nijjar was my younger brother and we had an association of more than 20 years. We will avenge his death," Pannun said.

Pannun rose to prominence by leading the Khalistan 2020 referendum campaign across various Western countries, garnering significant attention. In 2020, the Indian government designated Gurpatwant Singh Pannun as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Reportedly, he has 22 cases against him including three sedition cases.

The runaway secessionist, in an interview with The Times Of India, had taken responsibility for spreading "kill posters" aimed at Indian diplomats serving in Canada, the UK and the US.

PTI chief's involvement in Jinnah House attack probe established: prosecutor
[GEO.TV] Special Prosecutor Farhad Ali Shah has said that Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) Chairman Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
has been found guilty of all charges related to the attack on Lahore’s Jinnah House during May 9 mayhem.

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Friday, Shah said the investigation into the case has been completed to the extent of the PTI chief.

"[The] PTI chief's involvement has been established in the Jinnah House attack investigation and he is being charged with aiding and abetting," he added.

The special prosecutor also said evidence of the former prime minister’s involvement in the attack has been gathered and added that his arrest is required "to bring the evidence to the fore".

"He [Imran Khan] should be arrested as this is not a bailable case," he added.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
the special anti-terrorism court of Lahore extended the bail of Imran in five cases including the Jinnah House attack till August 8, Daily Jang reported.

Judge Abhar Gul Khan of the ATC conducted the hearing of the case and the PTI chief appeared before the court.

A large number of workers and supporters of PTI staged almost countrywide demonstrations on May 9 — when the PTI chairman was arrested by paramilitary troops on the directions of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with an alleged corruption case.

The demonstrators destroyed public and private properties, attacked military installations — the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander's House (Jinnah House) — and ransacked relics of deaders.

Following the incidents, the civil and military leadership resolved to give exemplary punishment under the relevant laws including Army Act to all those involved in hooliganism, arson, ransacking of public and private properties, attacking sensitive military installations and desecration of deaders’ monuments on May 9.

Cypher conspiracy can lead to Imran Khan's disqualification, says defence minister
[GEO.TV] Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that former prime minister and Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) chief Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
can be disqualified from holding a public office in cypher gate.

Speaking to Geo News on Friday, the federal minister said the former PM used a diplomatic cypher for political purposes and he could be charged with treason for using the classified document for vested interest.

"Article 6 can be imposed on the PTI chief," he said while referring to the law that deals with high treason under which an accused can be sentenced to death and life imprisonment.

He termed the former principal secretary to the ex-PM Azam Khan’s confessional statement "important", saying the former premier's aide has validated his opponents' allegations.

Imran’s top aide had revealed in the confessional statement that the then-prime minister last year used the diplomatic cypher sent by Pakistain’s envoy to Washington to concoct a narrative against the establishment and opposition.

In a similar statement a day earlier, Law Minister Azam Khan said that the PTI chief can be sentenced to up to 14 years for using diplomatic cypher for political purposes.

Azam, who has been "missing" since last month, has recorded his statement under CrPC 164 before a magistrate, the sources added, with no information on his whereabouts.

Imran, ousted via a parliamentary vote in April last year, alleged on March 27, 2022, that Washington orchestrated a plan to remove him from office — and brandished the cypher at a public rally to back his claims. The US has time and again denied such allegations, terming them "categorically false".

In his confession, Azam claimed that when he shared the cypher with Imran, the former premier was "euphoric" and termed the language as a "US blunder".

"There can be no bigger betrayal than this," Asif said while referring to the confessional statement that purportedly validated the ruling coalition’s claims that the PTI chief jeopardised the country’s national security by using the classified document for political purposes.

"National security was compromised and the official secrets act was violated," Asif added.

Iraq
Sweden moves Iraq embassy functions, staff to Stockholm: Ministry
[AlAhram] Sweden announced Friday that the staff and operations of its embassy in Iraq had been relocated to Stockholm, citing security concerns after protesters stormed the embassy in a pre-dawn raid this week.

"The embassy's operations and its expatriate staff have been temporarily relocated to Stockholm for security reasons," the foreign ministry told AFP, after hundreds of Iraqis stormed the embassy in Baghdad after Sweden permitted a protest in which a Koran was damaged.
No doubt wise, under the circumstances.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Protesters set to make last ditch stand against passing of 1st judicial overhaul law
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrators to end march to Knesset on Saturday evening and rally at Netanyahu’s home, as coalition set to pass reasonableness bill into law; large protests expected nationwide

The protest movement against the government’s judicial overhaul will hold a last-ditch effort aimed at blocking the coalition from passing its first law in the contentious legislative package, with a series of events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

A mass march from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will reach the capital on Saturday after several days on the road that saw the procession’s numbers swell to 10,000.

After camping out near Jerusalem on Friday night, the marchers plan to resume their walk on Saturday morning and reach the Knesset in the evening.

They will set up tents at the Knesset and remain there for an indefinite amount of time.

Large demonstrations are also set to take place outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official residence in Jerusalem on Saturday night starting at 7:15 p.m.

"We won’t let [Netanyahu] destroy our home," protest leaders said.

A spokesperson for the protest movement said it was expected that the Jerusalem protest will be the main focus — rallies in Tel Aviv on Saturdays have been the main weekly event for the protest movement, which has raged since the government unveiled its judicial overhaul package in January.

It will be the 29th week of protests since the government announced its plans to drastically weaken the judiciary.

Protests are scheduled in other cities around the country on Saturday starting at 6 p.m., including Haifa, Rehovot, Bat Yam, Kfar Saba, Ramat Gan, Herzliya and Beersheba.

WFP slashes cash aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan
[NPASyria] World Food Program (WFP) said Tuesday it will reduce monthly cash aid for 120,000 Syrian refugees living in Jordan because of what it described as an "unprecedented funding crisis."

The Washington Post reported, citing the WFP that starting in August, the monthly cash allowance for the Syrian refugees will be reduced from $32 to $21.

Jordan is a country of 11 million people and hosts some 1.3 million refugees from Syria. Most of them live in the kingdom’s towns and cities, while several tens of thousands have settled in two camps — Zaatari and Azraq.

Jordanian officials have warned that the kingdom cannot fill the gap left by international donors.

"As funding dries up, our hands are tied," said Alberto Correia Mendes, the WFP representative for Jordan.

"There is an imminent risk that the situation is sliding back into a humanitarian crisis with serious consequences for refugees and host communities," Dominik Bartsch, WFP representative to Jordan said.

Government forces to head to Syria’s east – military source
Heads up, guys — incoming!
[NPASyria] Syrian government is packing military reinforcements, including armored vehicles and troops, to move towards the city of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a military source of the government forces told North Press on Thursday.

The source said, on the condition of anonymity, that the government forces present in Deir ez-Zor need military reinforcements, amid ongoing movement of the US troops located east of the Euphrates River and at al-Tanf garrison in Deir ez-Zor, on the Syrian-Iraq border. The government forces consider such movement as "suspected".

The Military Intelligence, affiliated with the government forces, requested Shamal Legion headed by Abu Ali Reslan in the eastern countryside of Aleppo to recruit the young men to support the ongoing military reinforcements, according to the source.

The military groups will set off from Maskana area, in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, and head towards the eastern part of the country.
