Just before Christmas. Been there, done that. It ain't fun. Corporations like to do it just before Christmas. Not that there is any time that is particularly good to do it. I suppose it's better now than after they've maxed out their credit cards on Christmas shopping. But if any group of people actually deserve this kind of thing...

Earned it, and if they scoff at religion well then doesn't really matter.

Considering they violated the right to free speech, encouraged people to be hateful and even violent to those they didn't agree with, kept on accounts that actively planned violence upon said people, and worked with the government to all above said goals...
The least I will accept is to have strips of their skin pulled off, then have them put in crow cages in the town square while they scream away their few remaining days and rot there for a year after they perish.

Most of these dopes publicly stated they would not work for Musk. Now that he is facilitating, it all seems terrible and unfair to them. If they did not see this coming then shame on them. And in most of these cases if you are truly capable you will land on your feet and maybe even be better off than before.
To be fair, he only took ownership on Wednesday. And he’s been tweeting about downsizing staffing by 75% for a week or two – so that shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone.

Apparently those being released today will be paid until Feb 2. Basically knocks the crap out of the "six weeks notice" lawsuit that was just filed.

A generation of people build on emerging technology and then retire. Then a new crowd of idiots roll in and drive it into the ground. Elon is going to restore it back to its original form.

#7, if the Dems get their way, we're all gonna be mining coal. It can be a nasty business. Grandpa Mundi lost a leg to coal cart. Not long after, the family was escorted out of the company town. #15, yep, that's the reality, so your style really isn't a consideration here, particularly considering the style of the previous management which would look something very much like this: open bottles (1.75 ML bottles by the way) of booze sitting on workers desks. I know, I've worked enough projects for Silicon Valley software co's and seen enough including that which I just mentioned. As long as folks were punching the ticket belonging to the approved team, all was acceptable.

As tech companies go, Twitter has a very simple tech stack and operating model. Their payroll was absurdly bloated under the previous Woke exec staff.
Do they even have their own SSP? I doubt it. Even if they did, you could build a bidder with maybe 12-15 engineers working for 9-12 months: maybe $20 million all in cost. That’s nothing compared to a new version of a hypervisor or anything similarly complicated.
There’s no way that Twitter needs more than a few hundred non-engineer staff. Maybe 2,000 engineers maximum for scaling up and out.
Musk can and should reduce headcount by at least 60%, probably more.

If they move away from ad serving, the tech stack becomes vastly simpler. Then they only need 1,000 or so employees in total.

Even if they were 100% objective and even-handed (hah!) that kind of 'curation' is a stupid idea, because it cannot scale. Yahoo showed that over 15 years ago when it abandoned manual indexing of the Web.

I suspect the severance package include at least 6 week of continual pay to meet the 'advance notice' requirements. No way Musk will let them even close to the family jewels code after informing them.
Since several employees vowed to 'burn the place down' severing them from the company assets is a damn good idea. These people consider the code 'theirs' and not the 'companies' and will act accordingly to deny access to 'their' personal code.
Next step: Look for backdoors and landmines and the like.

Had a cabin in Truckee in the Light Ages (before Gov J. Brown). 4 foot of snow was referred to as a "light dusting" on the snowpack.

[Daily Mail, where Americagets its news] So now it's a mosque?
Around 100 Senegalese migrants arrived on Sunday at NYC's 'Adams Tent City'
Bronx imam Omar Niass of the Masjid Ansaru-Deen helped to coordinate their arrival to Randall's Island from Brazil
The 'Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center' opened last month
The tent city consists of around 500 beds and has washing machines and TVs
It is now thought to be housing mainly Venezuelans and Senegalese migrants
Niass has been working with the migrants for some time and would often pick up those arriving at JFK airport.
'Sometimes, the church gives them plane tickets to JFK and I have to go and pick them up,' he said.
Niass said that he had been working with Pastor Gilford Monrose, executive director of Adams' Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships, to organize the arrival of the migrants .
He said that the majority of the migrants had been working in Brazil. When they heard the border was open they left their jobs to migrate, many of them taking Greyhound buses up to the city, he told the New York Post.

Why do they need a tent city. Can’t they just wander around the subway assaulting people randomly like everyone else does? I am for integration not immigration. They need to fit into NY culture.

South Sudan is a big nation and is home to various ethnics who practice everything from farming to cattle raising to mixed economies. However, the UN does not describe those areas impacted. One can assume for the present that the equatorial regions are immune. Since the inception of Operation Lifeline Sudan in 1988 the United States and the UN have come to the rescue --usually after a serious famine has killed off tens of thousands of southern Sudanese. I imagine it will be repeated again this year.
[Aljazeera] PM Rishi Sunak’s spokeswoman appears to abandon the relocation review ordered by former UK leader Liz Truss. Perfidious Albion's Chamberlain redux.
The United Kingdom has "no plans" to relocate its Israel embassy to Jerusalem, according to a spokeswoman for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, dismissing his predecessor’s review into a possible move of the embassy away from Tel Aviv.
The spokeswoman for Sunak, who replaced Liz Truss as prime minister last week, told reporters on Thursday that the relocation idea had been "looked at" under the previous administration.
When asked if the UK was still considering the relocation, she said the government had "no [such] plans".
The UK has for decades housed its embassy in Tel Aviv, where most other countries have their diplomatic outposts, despite Israel designating Jerusalem as its capital.
Truss’s announcement in late September that she was considering relocating the embassy to Jerusalem was welcomed at the time by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid but provoked a backlash from the Palestinian government, pro-Palestinian groups, British church leaders and European foreign ministers, among others. Truss had Trumpian tendencies. She had to go, shall we say, quickly.
Jerusalem remains at the heart of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with the Palestinian Authority (PA) insisting that East Jerusalem — illegally occupied by Israel since 1967 — should serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.
There is a global consensus against recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital until the Palestinian conflict is resolved.
But the United States opened an embassy in the city in 2018 under former President Donald Trump, breaking with decades of US policy by recognising it as Israel’s capital.
The move was welcomed by Israel and criticised by the Arab world and Western allies.
At the time, the UK, under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Theresa May, said it had no plans to move its embassy and publicly disagreed with the US move.

[Yahoo News] — CNBC is canceling Shepard Smith's nightly newscast after two years, with its new president saying he wanted to focus on the network's core strength of business news.
Smith, who is leaving the network, will have his last telecast sometime later this month. He did not have any immediate comment.
Smith landed at CNBC after abruptly leaving Fox News Channel in 2019, establishing a general interest news show that aired at 7 p.m. Eastern on weeknights.
CNBC said Smith's show attracted the richest audience of any evening program on cable news — usually a huge selling point. But there clearly weren't enough viewers.
His show has averaged 222,000 viewers this year, down slightly from 2021, the Nielsen company said. For the last three months of 2020, "The News with Shepard Smith" had 280,000 viewers.
By contrast, Fox News' Jesse Watters had 3.4 million viewers in the same time slot on Tuesday and MSNBC's Joy Reid had 1.3 million, Nielsen said.
Smith was lured to CNBC by previous chief executive Mark Hoffman. But Hoffman was replaced in September by KC Sullivan, who announced Smith's exit in a memo to staff on Thursday.
"I believe we must prioritize and focus on our core strengths of business news and personal finance," Sullivan wrote.
He said a business news show will launch in the same time period early next year, but offered no other details.
The CNBC chief said that "at a time when misinformation and disinformation is rampant, ’The News’ succeeded in providing audiences with the clearest understanding of the facts."
Smith worked at Fox from its inception in 1996 until 2019, quitting after a run-in with Fox's ascendant opinion host, Tucker Carlson. For several years he had anchored a 7 p.m. show on Fox, but it had been moved to the afternoon.
