But, of course, he became famous not for this photograph, but for the fact that, according to the investigation, it was he who organized the arson on the "Bonhomme Richard" helicopter carrier, which is now being sawed for metal in Texas. This photo was taken a month before the fire on July 13.
The case file contains testimony from colleagues that Mace expressed disdain for the authorities and the US military.
