[ynet] A gunman shot eight people dead and injured several others at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis before taking his own life, police said early on Friday.
An Indianapolis police officer said the authorities did not feel there was an active threat to the community anymore.
In the latest media briefing, officer Genea Cook said that including the gunman the total number of casualties was nine.
"We have multiple people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds," Cook had said in an earlier briefing, adding that there were others who have been transported to various hospitals throughout the area.
The incident occurred at a FedEx facility in Mirabel Road, Indianapolis, late on Thursday night, according to the police. The facility is located close to the Indianapolis International airport.
[THEEASTSIDERLA] A 70-year-old woman was badly injured on a Metro bus late last week when she was allegedly assaulted by another passenger, according to her son.
Police have confirmed there has been an arrest in the case, but have released no details about the incident.
The victim’s face and eyes were left swollen, her nose was broken, hair was pulled out of her head and she suffered a concussion, according to her son, who identified himself as Pete. He provided photos of the injured woman to The Eastsider.
The woman, identified only as Becky, was attempting to get off the 81 bus at La Loma Road and Figueroa Street early Friday afternoon. She was headed to the nearby Vons supermarket to shop for her granddaughter, her son said.

Time for the Asian community to hire a few experts in Kung Fu & disguise?
Barney Dale Harris, 40, was shot dead when he raided the cartel's stash house in Green Level, north-west of Raleigh, on April 8 to steal drugs and cash
Harris and his brother-in-law Steven Alexander Stewart broke into a mobile home used by the cartel after tracking them with electronic devices
Authorities say the shootout broke out after Harris and Stewart shot dead an 18-year-old cartel member who confronted them
Harris, who was wearing a bullet proof vest, was killed in the shootout
The circumstances surrounding Harris' death has left his community and authorities dumbfounded
Harris, who leaves behind a wife and three children, taught Spanish at Union Academy Charter School
He was also the head coach of the school's varsity basketball and track teams
Dementia patient Karen Garner, 73, walked out of a Loveland Walmart last June without paying for $13.38 worth of items
Store employees stopped her at the exit and retrieved the items
But police officers caught up with her while she was walking back to her house
Garner, who suffers from dementia, appeared confused when she was stopped, but she was aggressively arrested by two officers
Bodycam footage shows her face down in the grass as she wails while being handcuffed; she allegedly suffered a fractured arm and a dislocated shoulder
A lawyer has now filed a civil suit on her behalf And rightfully so. I generally assume the police were in the right, but they could have controlled her with a hug.
On Thursday the department placed arresting officer Austin Hopp on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation
Assisting officer Daria Jalali and supervising sergeant Phil Metzler have been reassigned to administrative duties, the Loveland Police Department said

Yet another story about cops over-doing it. Are we seeing another media play here? My spider sense is tingling...
Over the long term, whether they show up in the media or not, I would expect more over-copping incidents, particularly in urban areas. The various anti-police efforts will drive the decent cops away to better working environments. That leaves the ones who enjoy being jerks. Plus more affirmative action hires like Officer Taser in Minnesota who really should be in another line of work.
[NYPOST] The News Agency that Dare Not be Named Stylebook, which has traditionally set standards for language usage within the media landscape, mystified Twitter users Tuesday when it tweeted a reality-bending, wrist-slapping admonishment.
"Don’t use the term mistress for a woman who is in a long-term sexual relationship with, and is financially supported by, a man who is married to someone else. Instead, use an alternative like companion, friend or lover on first reference and provide additional details later," the tweet read. or "Vice President"
Of course, goomah is a much better term. Or "popsie."
The announcement led many to wonder which mistress had taken control of the account, and what is truly wrong with the word mistress.
It also spurred a joke-fest with people tweeting alternatives to mistress, like "side piece" or "homewrecker."
NPR news hound Susan Davis tweeted: "His wife probably has some words she’d also like to use to describe her."
Author and mathematician James Lindsey wrote: "I call her whatever I want. You call her mom."
Cheeky college hoops commentary account @noescalators took the AP’s advice on word substitution, writing: "Rick Pitino and his lover companion got a brief tour of an Italian Restaurant," referring to the 2003 incident during which Pitino had sex with a woman on the table of a Louisville restaurant.
Obviously someone at AP is banging a married dude. Gross. https://t.co/mOrPEk6vbW
— Cassandra Fairbanks (@CassandraRules) April 14, 2021
Though it surfaced yesterday on social media, the AP Stylebook’s policy regarding the word mistress dates to 2016, when it said to avoid the word because there was no male equivalent. ... like "gigolo" or "boy toy" or something like that...
Then in 2020, the AP grew stronger in its woke feminist convictions, saying it was banning the word because it was "archaic and sexist."
"We now say not to use the archaic and sexist term ’mistress’ for a woman in a long-term sexual relationship with, and financially supported by, a man who is married to someone else. Instead, use an alternative like companion or lover on first reference."
That led to a round of skewering from media circles. It’s unclear what sparked this latest woke lecture — but mistresses everywhere must be thrilled at the opportunity to rebrand themselves in a more favorable light.

O Mistress mine where are you roaming?
O stay and hear, your true love's coming,
That can sing both high and low.
Trip no further pretty sweeting.
Journeys end in lovers' meeting,
Every wise man's son doth know.
What is love, 'tis not hereafter,
Present mirth, hath present laughter:
What's to come, is still unsure.
In delay there lies no plenty,
Then come kiss me sweet and twenty:
Youth's a stuff will not endure.

One of the most haunting parts of The Lord of the Rings is the Dead Marshes -- a flooded former battleground, where you can still see the corpses of the dead beneath the shallow water.
It was inspired by Tolkien's experience in the trenches of WWI.

[this is from NPR - who insist on calling CAIR a civil rights organization but at least they covered the story] For months, stories swirled around a prominent Muslim civil rights leader, alleging secret marriages, bullying, sexual harassment.
Then, late last year, some of the allegations against 34-year-old Hassan Shibly burst into public view. In a video posted on GoFundMe, Shibly's estranged wife, mother of their three children, looked directly into the camera and begged for help. She said her abusive husband had cut her off financially.
"For years, I've been in an abusive relationship, and the situation at home has become unbearable," Imane Sadrati said. "I finally decided to build the courage to start over for my children and I."
The accusations were shocking not only in their content but in the public airing of a nationally recognized Muslim leader's personal drama. For a decade, Shibly led the prominent Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR.

Shibly said that he did enter into religious marriage contracts with women outside his legal marriage when he and his wife were separated and prior to that — with her permission and when he felt their marriage was essentially over. He denies that any of the relationships were secret or abusive and described them as courtships.
Most religious scholars do not see a conventional Islamic marriage as legitimate unless it is publicly declared, and having more than one wife is generally frowned upon in jurisdictions where that's not allowed under local law.
I suppose it will be argued that the women believed they were in real Sharia marriages that are not legally binding under secular state law, as opposed to believing that the marriages were legal.

[JustTheNews] Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts has signed a proclamation declaring his state a "Second Amendment Sanctuary State."
"The White House and U.S. Congress have announced their intention to pursue measures that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms," part of the proclamation states. "Nebraska will stand up against federal overreach and attempts to regulate gun ownership and use in the Good Life," another section of the proclamation states.
Last week the Biden administration announced actions related to gun violence, and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki indicated that more actions could be coming in the future. She said that Biden "is not going to wait for Congress to act to take additional executive actions. This is the beginning. He will continue to have his team review, both from a policy and a legal standpoint, additional executive actions that are possible to take."

So now President Asterisk and his freak show have blundered their way into three wars: China about to invade Taiwan. Israel left no choice but to prevent-emotive my strike Iran. And foolishly sticking our nose even deeper into Ukraine's arse so that The Big Guy and Lil' Crackpipe can collect their walking-around money.
And these idiots told us nonstop for four years that it was Trumpy Hitler who was dragging us over the brink.

escorted away. "The ministry said the U.S. aircraft had not violated Russia's borders."
So they got close and left when Russia fighters saw them and got too close to allow further spying. I suspect this was a daily occurrence back in the cold war.
Another escalation - Russia has announced that it's closing the strategic Kerch Strait until October. This effectively closes the Ukrainian ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk to traffic https://t.co/eFy6V08vBU

I thought Ukraine scuttles the bulk of the deeper water ships during the Crimea take-over, partly to deny capture and partly to block the port. Don't remember anything particular about the near water boats.

AP: Sanctioned the Kremlin’s first deputy chief of staff Alexei Gromov and several individuals linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman with close ties to Russia’s president, nicknamed “Putin’s chef” for serving Kremlin functions, and several front companies the U.S. says helped Prigozhin evade sanctions imposed earlier. Also sanctioned were eight individuals and entities tied to Russia’s occupation in Crimea.

I'm guessing the scantily-clad dancers were male, because scantily-clad women dancing on a ship would be a completely different type of scandal.

more importantly, a lot of China's industry has been closed at various times in the past 12 months, similarly various plants in other countries have been closed or hours of production shortened because of workers being sick or other reasons

[Federalist] Last week, legal accountability group Judicial Watch dropped a bombshell: a nearly 600-page report proving the U.S. government has been buying and trafficking "fresh" aborted baby body parts. These body parts, purchased by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to "humanize" mice and test biologic drugs in scientific experiments, came from babies up to 24-weeks-old gestation, just weeks from being born.
While Americans may be used to hearing pro-lifers beat the warning drum on abortion groups harvesting baby bodies and selling them for research, (who hasn’t heard of the lawsuit against David Daleiden, who exposed Planned Parenthood haggling over baby lungs and livers at dinner parties?) this time, the U.S. government was the one trafficking baby parts.
Recent emails uncovered by Judicial Watch between FDA employees and the California-based Advanced Bioscience Resources (ABR) prove the agency spent tens of thousands of dollars buying aborted babies for unethical scientific experiments between 2012 and 2018. In 2018, the Trump administration terminated the contract, halting government fetal tissue research due to concerns the contracts were unlawful. Judicial Watch’s new FOIA Request adds 575 pages of records to its existing 2019 lawsuit against the agency.
