[NYPOST] Sunshine State authorities busted a massive child sex trafficking network — accused of exploiting a single teen — this week, ending a two-year probe that netted 178 arrests, including a high-profile booster for Florida State University, according to a report and police. The operation, called "Stolen Innocence," which began in November 2018, wrapped up on Tuesday — and those allegedly involved face charges ranging from solicitation of prostitution to human trafficking of a minor, the Tallahassee Police Department said in a blurb.
It began when department Sherlocks spotted images of a child posted on a website that advertises sex for money, authorities said. The girl was 13 and 14 when most of the alleged offenses occurred — but the abuse may have begun even before her 13th birthday, Elizabeth Bascom, one of the lead Sherlocks, told The Tallahassee Democrat.
A total of 72 suspects were charged with misdemeanors and notices to appear, and 106 people were hit with felony charges — 18 of those being charged federally, according to authorities.

[NYPOST] Monster mom Susan Smith, who killed her young sons in 1994 by driving into a South Carolina lake with the boys strapped in their car seats, could be a free woman in just four years.
Smith, now 49, has recently been on her best behavior at the Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood after spending her first 20 years behind bars romping with prison guards, taking drugs and self-harming, according to People magazine and records.
"She’s behaving herself these days," a prison source told the outlet.
"She knows that her parole date is four years away and she can’t get parole if she isn’t being good."
On Oct. 25, 1994, a 23-year-old Smith told police an armed black man stole her car and drove off with her two sons inside. For nine days, the teary-eyed mom would appear on national television, pleading for the safe return of her "babies."
The nation reeled and prayed, transfixed by the horror Smith and her family were facing, but it turned out there was no carjacker. The only criminal involved was the mom herself.
Before Smith made up the carjacking story to police, she drove aimlessly through the dark with her two sons — three-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alex — in the backseat while she was in the throes of a depressive, suicidal episode, police said at the time.
She stopped off at John D. Long Lake in Union County and contemplated taking her life but ended up choosing her boys instead. Smith pulled up to a boat ramp, put the car into neutral, hopped outside and watched as the lake swallowed her two children. The boys were still strapped in their carseats and completely conscious when their family car turned into a watery coffin.
When divers later pulled the car from the muck, a sodden teddy bear came out along with the two boys’ bloated corpses.
It was said Smith decided to kill the boys because a boyfriend who’d recently dumped her wasn’t prepared for a "ready-made family" but to this day, Smith still claims she doesn’t know why she did it, she wasn’t in the right frame of mind and she adored her kids.
The mom finally confessed to the crime when her story fell apart and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years, which will come too soon in November 2024.

Scum bag should be fitted with some cement shoes and dealt the same date as her innocent boys.
[NYPOST] A Denver man accused of gunning down a 21-year-old woman over a feud about dog feces reportedly fired off 24 shots from a semi-automatic rifle in the attack.
The revelations about 24-year-old suspect Michael Close’s alleged ambush that left Isabella Thallas dead and maimed her 27-year-old boyfriend, Darian Simon, were disclosed at the suspect’s preliminary court hearing Monday, KDVR reported.
Denver police homicide investigator Joseph Trujillo testified that authorities found six shell casings inside Close’s Ballpark neighborhood apartment, and 18 others outside his window.
Close is accused of firing from inside his apartment at Thallas and Simon, who were walking their dog.
Before opening fire, Close yelled at the couple after their dog pooped in a rock garden outside his apartment, according to Trujillo. "Are you going to train that f—ing dog or just yell at it?" Close reportedly yelled from his window.
After the June 10 shooting, Close fled in his car and was arrested by police later that day. He is charged with first-degree murder and over a dozen other counts, and was denied bond Monday, the report said.
The suspect’s girlfriend, Chelsea Thompson, told police that after the shooting, her boyfriend called her crying, admitting to opening fire on two people, Trujillo testified.
Close was also crying and apologizing when he was arrested, Trujillo said.
Thompson told police her boyfriend had recently been diagnosed as a nut with a personality disorder and battled substance abuse.

A socialist coup vs. dog poop. Which is worth fighting for?
[PRESSDEMOCRAT] A man wanted for his role in an alleged $35 million Ponzi scheme was arrested Monday after evading FBI agents by swimming into Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,’s largest reservoir using an underwater "sea scooter," federal prosecutors said. Ummm... We seen dis movie. It wuz really cheesy.
Matthew Piercey spent nearly 30 minutes in frigid Lake Shasta using the Yamaha 350Li submersible device before he eventually resurfaced and was handcuffed, the Sacramento Bee reported. It wasn't immediately known if the 44-year-old has an attorney.
When agents went to arrest Piercey, he hopped in a pickup and led them on a chase that ended at the shoreline of the lake north of Redding.
"Then, Piercey abandoned his truck near the edge of Lake Shasta, pulled something out of it, and swam into Lake Shasta," federal prosecutors wrote in court documents calling Piercey a flight risk. "Piercey spent some time out of sight underwater where law enforcement could only see bubbles."
Agents later learned Piercey had a sea scooter, a motorized device that pull users underwater at speeds of about 4 miles per hour (6.4 kilometers per hour), the newspaper said.
Last week, a grand jury indicted Piercey and his business partner, Kenneth Winton, 67, of Oroville, the Bee reported.
Piercey is accused of bilking investors into giving $35 million to his companies, Family Wealth Legacy and Zolla, promising guaranteed returns using an "Upvesting Fund" that allegedly was an algorithmic trading fund with a history of success, prosecutors said.
Piercey allegedly admitted privately to an associate that there was no Upvesting Fund, prosecutors said. Piercey originally recruited Winton as an investor, but Winton eventually took on management responsibilities at Zolla.
They used some investor money for various business and personal expenses, including two residential properties and a houseboat. Few, if any, liquid assets remain to repay investors, prosecutors said.
Piercey faces charges including wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, and witness tampering. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday. Winton, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, has an initial court appearance on Thursday.
If convicted, both Winton and Piercey face 20 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
Winton's attorney, Adam G. Gasner, told the Bee his client "looks forward to the judicial process shedding light on what actually occurred here."

So, they used social security as a model. They just bought stuff rather than votes with the money.
[CBSNEWS] Activist and has been free agent NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick ...Formerly a petulant quarterback for the San Francisco Giants, now looking for a job. He was willing to stand up for his princles by kneeling during the national anthem, which he had every right to do, but not willing to take the consequences, which he apparently thought shouldn't apply to him... called for the release of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther who was convicted of killing a White Philadelphia police officer in 1981. He made the comments during a virtual conference with supporters fighting for his release on Monday.
"We're in the midst of a movement that says 'Black Lives Matter.' And if that's truly the case, then it means that Mumia's life and legacy must matter," Kaepernick said in a video statement. "And the causes that he sacrificed his life and freedom for must matter as well."

We should set up a system in which in the last decade or so of someones term (when parole release is a real consideration) a person like Colin could serve one year of of a person's sentence for him. Make it a 20 person minimum (gotta have backups) must sign up to take the time before any count. Popular fellow like Mumia could easily find 20 folks willing to do a year each. Call it the "Money where your Mouth is" program.

tl;dr: It is a brutal injustice to lock up a black man simply because he killed a police officer in cold blood, especially one that can read and write.
[ZH] As researchers struggle to understand what makes infection with COVID-19 so mild in some cases, and so deadly in others, we have kept a close eye out for any new links between symptoms different strains of the virus. And on Wednesday we noticed new comments from South Australia's top health official who warned that a particularly deadly strain of SARS-CoV-2 is circulating in the state.
Chief Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier explained that the reason for the recently imposed six-day lockdown is the fact that "this particular strain has had certain characteristics" she said.
The State of South Australia, which became home to this dramatic scene yesterday, is also bracing for the risk that this new strain could spread more quickly, in addition to being more deadly. Professor Spurrier said a typical generation, or stage, of the virus was only about three days.
"We also know, because of that characteristic, that what we call a generation, is only about three days and a generation is when one case is passing it on to the next level, and then that (next) level, so if they pass it on to two people, they will pass it on to another lot of people, and that is your third generation," she said.
Already, the virus has progressed to the fifth generation, she said.
"At the moment in SA we have done contact tracing to the fourth generation but the fifth generation is out there in our community and at the moment we are contact tracing to get on to that generation and that is the Woodville pizza bar."
Authorities have traced the local outbreak to a pizza shop in Parafield. The cluster began with a worker at Peppers Warmouth, which is being used as a quarantine hotel, was infected with the virus.
By tracing the spread of certain strains of the virus, researchers in the US have hypothesized that the virus was spread to New York from Europe, before moving to the rest of the country east of the Mississippi, while other strains colonized China and the west.
Though SA's infection rate remains muted, officials have reported two new cases today, taking the total to 22, while another 12 people are still under investigation.
But as residents rush to get tested, we can't help but wonder if public health officials might be playing up the strain angle to coax people into obeying the state's six day lockdown.

Looks like Ausie Lockdowns produced a stronger strain unlike the USA's. Where our strain... what is in its 7 or 8 mutation now and its is 2nd season. Like any flu type virus.
Our has a much much lower mortality rate, based on current CDC data.
Question ??????
Aren't seasons down under the opposite of the northern hemisphere? Shouldn't their warm season now be when any virus infection rate declines?

Covid has a 1-2 week incubation. Two weeks later Covid rates in Big Blue cities go up two weeks after Biden "won" and everyone celebrated in the Big Blue Cities and they talk about locking down thanksgiving and nobody is even trying to connect the dots.
I remember back when they really, really stretched to blame Sturges for non-existent breakouts.

"Lockdowns" control tool of left-wing loons. Have they been right on any of their prognostications? Melting icebergs, rising sea levels, "If you don't adopt The Green New Deal, it's the end of the world soon, if we don't control population, we're all going to starve to death, electric cars, wind energy, and solar energy will solve our energy problems, the Orange Man will have us in a war, and on, and on and on.
[NYPOST] Megyn Kelly said she yanked her two young sons out of their “woke” Upper West Side private school — where a letter allegedly circulated accusing white people of “reveling in state-sanctioned depravity” and comparing white children to “killer cops.”
The offending letter made its rounds among the school’s “diversity group,” which included Kelly and other white parents, following the police-involved death of George Floyd in May, the former Fox news and NBC News host claimed.
“After years of resisting it, we’re going to leave the city,” Kelly said on Monday’s episode of her new podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
Kelly went on to read directly from the letter written by Nahliah Webber, executive director of the nonprofit Orleans Public Education Network, and posted on a blog titled “If You Really Want to Make a Difference in Black Lives, Change How You Teach White Kids.”

Lots of people overpay for donuts. And it's not just the material cost that goes into something. It's the skill, equipment, electricity, and the fact that you have them and other people don't, that make them valuable. An item is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it, not what the components were worth.
#2 is spot on. Why do people buy name-brand items in the grocery store instead of generics? Why do we buy that hunk of plastic made in China for $5.99 that may have cost pennies to produce? &c, &c, &c.
The things you cite are rolled into my cost estimate. At a place like Krispy Kreme skill isn't part of the equation. The raw ingredients are dumped into a machine, it spits out the donut onto a conveyor and just about everything is automated.
An old friend was baker and he said that donuts are a product with with exceptionally low productions costs and high profit margin. Even a neighborhood mom-&-pop shop can make a very nice return on a modest investment.
[ZH] Brussels officially has a full-blown populist rebellion on its hands.
After Hungary and Poland blocked the EU's $900 billion COVID-19 recovery package as well as the seven-year, €1.8 trillion ($2.1 billion) budget over Brussels' attempt to "force foreign values upon member nations" in a long running dispute over democratic norms, immigration and the "illiberal" tilt of Poland and Hungary.
A clause in the budget would strip Budapest and Warsaw of billions of euros in EU funding if they don't impose certain measures to strengthen the "rule of law" as Brussels sees fit. Both Hungary and Poland are facing EU "investigations" over allegations they undermined the independence of courts and the media.

[YNet] - Nearly half of the new coronavirus cases detected in the past week have come from the Arab sector, the National Security Council said on Thursday, indicating a 6.5% positivity rate.
Only 9.5 % of cases were found in the ultra-Orthodox communities and 44.5% were found in the general population.
Nazareth, the largest Arab city in Israel was classified as a red zone because of increased morbidity.
On Friday, the coronavirus cabinet is set to discuss imposing a lockdown on the city in order to curb the spread of the virus.

Sources told Catholic News Agency that an internal probe is underway into the act involving Natalia Garibotto’s Instagram pic of her dressed in a racy schoolgirl uniform.
News reports surfaced on Nov. 13 that Francis’ verified account "liked" the post but it was then removed on Nov. 14 — after CNA asked the Vatican’s press office for comment.

The Holy See declined to comment on the debacle.

[Jpost] The good news comes as a relief to many on campus, who claim to have experienced antisemitic and anti-Zionist harassment in alarming increasing rates over the past five years.
The US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced on Tuesday that it has opened a formal investigation into a complaint of unrelenting antisemitic harassment at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), submitted on behalf of UIUC’s Jewish students.
The good news comes as a relief to many on campus, who claim to have experienced antisemitic and anti-Zionist harassment in alarming increasing rates over the past five years.
The federal investigation launched by the OCR will examine the complaint alleging numerous antisemitic and anti-Zionist instances at UIUC, including swastikas being found on campus several times, Jewish ritual items such as menorahs and mezuzahs being vandalized, windows of Jewish fraternity houses being smashed by bricks, and frequent harassment by members and supporters of Students for Justice in Paleostine at UIUC.
The complaint also claims that UIUC has allowed a hostile environment to proliferate on its campus in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It describes how on different occasions, UIUC employees have been complicit in fostering a hostile environment on campus.
"Jewish and pro-Israel students at UIUC have been subjected to antisemitic and anti-Zionist harassment for far too long," said Alyza D. Lewin, President of the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, which helped prepare the complaint.
"We are very appreciative of OCR’s careful review of the complaint and correct determination of the necessity of a thorough and comprehensive investigation. This significant and critical development reaffirms the seriousness of the harassment and discrimination Jewish students face on a regular basis, and the importance of ongoing action by the university," she added.
Mark Rotenberg, vice president for University Initiatives and Legal Affairs at Hillel International, which also helped draft the complaint, expressed appreciation for the important step taken by OCR, stressing that "all Jewish college students deserve the right to learn and live in a safe, welcoming environment, free of antisemitism and anti-Israel harassment."
Rotenberg's comments were reflected in statements made by several other universities following OCR's announced investigation. Williams College, the University of North Carolina, Duke University and NYU all agreed to implement steps to combat rising antisemitic harassment and discrimination threatening Jewish students on their campuses.
