[ToloNews] A key highway that connects the city of Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... with the border town of Islam Qala remains unsafe for passengers, government officials and commercial trucks due to the presence of murderous Moslems and armed robbers along parts of it, according to members of the private sector and the provincial council.
On April 10, five employees of the government-owned Pashtany Bank were killed on this highway. Also, a security forces vehicle was attacked on the highway this month.
"The Herat Islam Qala highway is not only key for Herat but it is highly important for Afghanistan," said Madi Hadid, a member of Herat's provincial council. "Most of the imports from Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. Hadid said the lack of security on the Herat-Islam Qala highway will have an impact on the country.
But Herat police said a military operation has been launched to restore security on the highway — which has over 110 km stretching from the city of Herat.
"We have conducted operations in Qudoos Abad, Ahmad Abad and Shibish areas to clear them of the enemy. We have had good progress in these operations," Herat Police Chief Colonel Obaidullah Nawrozi said.
Hundreds of trucks loaded with commercial goods pass through the highway on a daily basis, according to the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
"We are tired of the lack of security on Herat-Islam Qala highway. Businessmen cannot travel on this highway," said Yunus Qazizada, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Herat.
He added that the problem has been shared with the government many times, but "no attention has been paid to it so far."
[RADIOSHABELLE] UPDF forces under African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) this morning repulsed an al-Shabaab ...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... attack on their position near Barawe Airport in the southwestern lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
According to Defense Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire, the UPDF forces in ambush, successfully blew two enemy vehicles loaded with dangerous explosives. The attackers according to Karemire, targeted Barawe Airport.
"No UPDF soldier was injured in the fight and high alert is being maintained," He said.
Brig. Karemire said Mopping up operations to capture remnants of the attackers continue.
He also said the UPDF has been commended by the community for securing Barawe Airport by giving a bloody nose to the attackers.
The attack happened a few hours after the Head of AMISOM Amb. Fransisco Caetano Madeira extended a message of goodwill to the government and people of Somalia during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Moslems all over the world today welcomed the holy month of Ramadhan.
"As we fast and offer prayers to Allah, the Almighty, may all Somalis find peace and happiness during this month of Ramadan" he said in a statement released today.
He said AMISOM will continue working closely with the Federal government and the people of Somalia to make peace and stability a lasting reality in Somalia.

[RADIOSHABELLE] The commander of the Somali police force, Abdi Hassan Mohammed [Hijar] has sacked Boondheere district police commissioner Najib Arab following Friday night shooting.
The decision comes as hundreds of residents stage a rally in the capital on Saturday to protest against the shooting of two unarmed civilians by a policeman during a curfew.
The government has announced it revised the hours of the curfew, says it will begin at 8 pm instead of 7 pm to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
The country has seen an increase of Covid-19 cases in recent days with health ministry confirmed 328 plus the deaths of 16 people from the pandemic.

Security Council and the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... yesterday, Friday, expressing his categorical rejection to the European operation. Sarraj said the operation neglected to control the airspace and borders through which arms and ammunition are reaching Eastern Libya.
The main reason for Sarraj’s rejection, however, is because it will affect the arms supplies coming from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... which mainly takes place through the sea route, according to the Italian newspaper Il Foglio’s report today.
The newspaper quoted a high-level European diplomat who said that Sarraj seeks a prior guarantee in his favour.
The GNA’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Siala, in a phone conversation with Josep Borrell, the current High Representative of the European Union, expressed his rejection to the EU operation "in its incumbent state," according to the Italian newspaper.
Moreover, the newspaper noted that the GNA does not want Operation IRINI in its present form. Hence, the European operation, led by Italia, seems "lame" to most observers.

March 31, 2020: The European Union has launched a new naval mission off Libyan coast, Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) military operation in the Mediterranean, called IRINI (peace in Greek) in order to step up efforts to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya. IRINI will have as its core task the implementation of the UN arms embargo through the use of aerial, satellite and maritime assets. The naval mission will be able to carry out inspections of vessels on the high seas off the coast of Libya suspected to be carrying arms or related material to and from Libya.
IRINI will also monitor and gather information on illicit exports from Libya of petroleum, crude oil and refined petroleum products.

[ALMARSAD.CO] According to Kamel al-Mirash in a statement to the Russian agency Sputnik today, Friday, the first implication from Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar ...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly... ’s speech is that there is no longer room to talk about the Skhirat Agreement and the Government of National Accord (GNA) that resulted from it. A source told the Yemen-based newspaper, Saba, that the Ansarallah forces also "took control of Tabab, the entire military camp, Jabal al-Ashsha and the village of al-Khusf"
The source pointed out, "The enemy’s attempt to regain its positions with intense encroachment turned into a disaster for them."
According to Saba, during the attack, "a large number of dead and maimed, including commanders, fell from the Yemeni army, and weapons and equipment were seized."
The Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar al-Iryani, announced on April 8, the of the strategic camp and Aljdafar east of the al-Hazm Directorate, following an attack by the Yemeni army from several axes.
The Ansarallah forces are now on the offensive in northern Yemen again after taking a brief hiatus to fend off several attacks by the pro-government troops in the al-Jawf, Marib, and al-Bayda governorates.

According to SOHR sources, these developments come in the wake of a visit by a Russian media delegation for a photo tour in the area, since the Russian forces want to show the area free of Iranian forces and Iranian-backed militiamen.
On April 20, SOHR sources reported that Iranian forces and Iranian-backed militias evacuated some of their headquarters in al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, moving them to the city’s outskirts.
The Iranians have evacuated the building of Finance Department and some surrounding buildings taken by militias of the Iraqi Hezbollah as their headquarters. The mosque of Ze al-Nourin and other surrounding houses -the headquarters of the Iranian-backed militia "Al-Haydariyoun"- have been also evacuated.
Reliable SOHR sources say that the headquarters have been transferred to buildings constructed by the Iranian militias in al-Mazare’ area, nearly eight km away from al-Mayadeen city.
The Iranian militias have deployed large amounts of heavy weapons in al-Mazare’ area, including canons, artillery pieces and rocket launchers. Accordingly, the area of al-Mazare’ now has large concentrations of Iranian forces and loyal militias.

[SYRIAHR] A military group affiliated with “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” stormed this afternoon the center of Bahar Organization near the cultural center in Afrin, beating the director of the center, expelling employees from the building and destroying its contents.
On April 24, Syrian Observatory sources reported that Turkish-backed factions stormed civilian houses in Afrin city and the towns of Maabatli and Sheikh Hadid, arresting several persons, but no charges were brought against them.
This campaign comes as a part of arbitrary practices by the Turkish forces and their proxies against the people of the area.
