[AFP via Breitbart] ‐ France’s defence minister departs for Washington on Sunday hoping to convince officials to keep U.S. soldiers in West Africa, where French authorities are under pressure after years of trying to bolster local forces against Islamic extremists.
Florence Parly’s visit comes just days after her tour of the Sahel region, a vast arid expanse where states have little more than nominal control, allowing jihadist fighters to flourish.
Paris and its allies consider the region increasingly critical for ensuring Europe’s security against jihadist threats and for stemming an unchecked flow of migrants across the Mediterranean.
The United States has been a key ally for France’s 4,500-member Barkhane operation, providing intelligence and surveillance via drones as well as in-flight refuelling and logistical transport, at a cost of $45 million a year.
"The American commitment to the region is essential because they provide critical capabilities, some of which cannot be replaced," an official in the French presidency told AFP this week.
But President Donald Trump insists the U.S. must focus on containing Russia and China, with Africa seen as less of a direct threat ‐ and one that should be left to France and the European Union.

Why pay for things when you can ride for free...?
It's my understanding that despite the reputation earned by their leaders, the French soldiery is quite competent. Their special forces, in particular.
True?

Yes, they're quite competent, they know their way around Africa, have excellent intel and completely dominate those countries. In many ways it's as if the Third Republic never ended.
Of course they should take the lead in W. Africa. The US has to focus on China. China China CHINA.
[Jpost] Western world nations support terror-linked Paleostinian NGOs - report
A new report by NGO Monitor finds that eight Paleostinian NGOs have links to the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP).
A new report issued on Monday by the research institute NGO Monitor found that eight Paleostinian NGOs which receive support from Western nations maintain ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP), a terrorist organization.
NGO Monitor claimed that the Netherlands, Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... , Spain, Germany, La Belle France, Ireland, Norway, and Belgium funneled millions of dollars to these groups. The support was not limited to EU countries as the US, Canada and Japan were also among the donors. UN-OCHA and UNICEF were also among those who offered their support.
Over 70 current and former staff, board members, and general assembly members, as well as senior management and founders at these NGOs have direct ties to the PFLP, the report found.
Founded by George Habash in 1967, the PFLP is a Paleostinian, secular, Marxist-Leninist terror group, originally supported by the USSR and China.
The PFLP was involved in suicide kabooms, shootings, liquidations and other attacks targeting civilians. The group was well-known for hijacking commercial airlines in the 1960s and 1970s
In 2001, the PFLP assassinated the Minister of Tourism Rehavam "Gandhi" Ze'evi. The PFLP claimed the liquidation was retaliation after the killing of the organization general secretary by Israel two months before.
The PFLP is designated as a terrorist organization by governments around the world, including the US, EU, Canada, and Israel.
[IsraelTimes] At least 800 attacks, including from Iran and Poland, were beaten back by Israel’s newly upgraded air traffic cyber defenses, officials say.
As Israel hosted dozens of world leaders last week for the World Holocaust Forum, the country’s cyber defense system fended off hundreds of cyberattacks targeting the country’s international airport and the planes of the world leaders.
Citing officials from the Airports Authority Cyber Division, Channel 12 reported Sunday that at least 800 distinct cyberattacks targeted Israeli aviation on Thursday while world leaders, including US Vice President Mike Pence and Russian President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... , were landing in the country.
All the attacks were successfully beaten back, officials said.
The attackers came from Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... , China, North Korea ...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche... , Russia, and Poland, the report said.
The attacks "were directed at the airport and the planes," the report said, "and were aimed at disrupting the flight paths of more than 60 planes carrying heads of state, kings and presidents."
Officials said Israel was prepared for the onslaught because security preparations for the high-level diplomatic gathering included planning for just such attacks.
The announcement came just two weeks after a January 12 cabinet decision that placed Israel’s aviation infrastructure under the protection of the National Cyber Security Authority, a division of the Prime Minister’s Office that coordinates the country’s cyber defenses.
The growing ubiquity of networked systems in airports, control towers and planes has increased the danger of hackers successfully penetrating air traffic computers and causing chaos and devastation.
The US, Israel and other nations have all responded to the threat in recent years by dramatically increasing the investment in cyber defenses for these systems.
"Hercules," a special project of Israel’s cyber security authority, was launched in 2017 to map out the dangers to aviation and develop solutions, including R&D, international cooperation, and new training for pilots and other related personnel for handling cyber emergencies.

[Free Beacon] An internal divide in the Trump administration over American aid to Lebanon is reaching a breaking point as Lebanon forms a government controlled by the Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.
The State Department's concession to Congress that it would commit to halting financial aid to Lebanon if U.S. taxpayer dollars go to Hezbollah is now being brought to the forefront. That guarantee from the State Department is fueling a growing push to freeze all aid in light of Hezbollah's unprecedented takeover of the Lebanese government, sources confirmed.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), who has led a battle on Capitol Hill against unconditional assistance to Lebanon, recently wrenched promises from the administration to halt the aid if it is shown Hezbollah is the beneficiary, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Is this going to result in another friggin phony impeachment by the Dems? If there is the least hint that our tax money is going to Hezbollah, it needs to be scuttled ASAP.

[Breitbart] In the days after President Trump authorized the killing of Iranian Quds Force leader Qasem Soleimani, mainstream media reports and pundits painted a picture of an erratic commander in chief ‐ one who had made a hasty, ill-thought out decision that would prompt a new war.
Yet, current and former administration officials and analysts say his handling of Iran showed restraint, deliberateness, and the ability to make tough decisions.
Before using force, "he always does the same thing," said one senior administration official in a phone interview on background with Breitbart News earlier this month.
"He consults with his cabinet, asks for the intelligence, and takes the opinion of his leadership...and so I think he takes a very calculated and measured response over time," the official said.
"He is very methodical about it and very calm in these meetings, and asks lots of questions and lots of updates before he jumps to any conclusions. So it’s a very detailed and thought out process," the official added.
Critics decried the lack of a decision-making process, but Army Gen. (Ret.) Jack Keane, former vice chief of staff of the Army, who has informally advised the president, confirmed there is a process to present Trump with options and the risks and ladder of escalation associated with each one.
"The national security team goes through this in some level of detail," he said. "When it comes to decisions that involve potential loss of American lives or even our adversaries lives, the President from everything I know is very involved in the process."
Air Force Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Robert S. Spalding III, former senior director for Strategic Planning at the NSC under the Trump administration, said "[Trump] especially likes differing points of view. He wants people to debate, and he wants to see the debate, which I think is important."

No president has been subject to more disinformation, more outright lies and fairytales about him, than this one.
We need to raze our media and start over with new media organizations and a new class of serious, professional journalists.

After their employers' organizations are brought down, these f---ers deserve something like the spontaneous public treatment of WWII collaborators after liberation from the fascists: shave the women's heads, for ex.
Pelt both men and women ex-producers, editors, anchors etc of CNN, WaPo MSNBC NYT etc with rotten eggs, urine balloons, feces.

#6 AlanC is exactly right. After you listen, ask questions, get updates, the thing after that is called "making a decision," not "jumping to conclusions."
