[Al Jazeera] Egypt's top Islamic body has banned a social media game that allegedly entices teenagers to commit suicide, saying it contains elements that are prohibited by Islam.
Dar al Iftaa, the Egyptian institute responsible for religious matters, issued the ban on the game after Egyptian media reported several suicides that were allegedly related to the game, despite the lack of evidence.
One of the suicides was by the son of Hamdy al-Fakharany, a former Egyptian member of parliament for the Moslem Brüderbund, prompting the religious authority to issue the ban.
Khalid al-Fakharany, 18, did away with himself after playing the game, according to his sister's Facebook posts. Several suicides in Jordan and Tunisia have also been linked to the game.
The Blue Whale Challenge gained notoriety in 2016 and 2017 after several suicides in the United States, Brazil, India, Russia and Europe ...also known as Moslem Lebensraum... were purportedly linked to it.
The game consists of a series of 50 challenges handed out by an organiser over social media.
The tasks, to be completed in 50 consecutive days, start out benign but get increasingly more violent as the days progress, eventually incorporating self-harm among other things.
On the last day, the user is supposed to commit suicide.
In a response to the challenge gaining traction over the last two years, several countries raised concerns about the game.

Suicide without killing other people in the process is un-Islamic, get it.
[Space.com] Even drugs that clear the body quickly leave traces about when and where they were used. In fact, many traces get flushed down the toilet — and those traces can be surprisingly revealing.
In a study published last month in the journal Science of the Total Environment, researchers analyzed sewage from two towns in western Kentucky. By testing for active ingredients and metabolites of marijuana, cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and several opioids, they were able to estimate the average quantity of each drug consumed per 1,000 people in the population on any given day. This allowed them to infer how drug use changed during special events in the summer of 2017.
In both communities, significantly higher levels of amphetamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, morphine and methadone were found in the wastewater on July 4 than on a typical day. In particular, methamphetamine levels were high on Independence Day, with levels doubling in one town and rising by half in the other.

Previous message from yours truly. I give it 5 to 10 years. Xi wants his legacy to be a "unified" China. I think the Taiwanese will fight to the last drop of blood.

[ATimes]A drawback in purchases – or a fire-sale – of US Treasuries could devastate the global economy if China presses the red button.
First a warning. This ##%$ page now has an Arby's audio advertisement you can't turn off and screws up scrolling on Asia Times now ruined web experience. Second, it looks like China is intentionally trying to panic the world's stock markets every Monday and then every other day in the week.
One hopes the US farmers - most who haven't planted yet don't plant Soy Beans so China can experience food shortages again. More gasohol as nobody can eat it?
Of all the economic threats exchanged recently, the most frightful came from a man most readers might have to google: Cui Tiankai, China’s ambassador to the US. That is saying a lot, considering the tariff arms race being waged between Washington and Beijing.
First, Donald Trump threw US$50 billion Xi Jinping’s way. When China matched that amount, President Donald Trump threatened to toss another $100 billion of levies into the fire. But that is mere noise compared to Cui’s suggestion that Beijing, America’s main banker, might consider scaling back on US Treasuries purchases.
Tariffs will hurt, certainly. The biggest trade powers engaged in a protectionist tit-for-tat will end badly for the entire global economy. But Cui’s not-so-veiled threat is something bigger.
“Now is the time,” the state-run People’s Daily argued in an editorial on the topic, “for China to use its financial weapon to teach the US a lesson.”

So print up a plane load of $1 million dollars bills (w/ Trump's face on it) and buy those treasuries back at a steep discount. Let's see the Chinese try to spend those $1M bills.
Again, America should never have traded with the ChiComs.

America's economy is simply not exposed to the world in the way that China's is. They can't wreck us with tariffs. It just won't work.
If they dump their treasuries we can just print money to pay them. No problemo. China's got nothing.

Announced yesterday -- the largest sale ever of American soybeans to European customers.

So the Chinese have been buying treasuries as a favor to us? Who knew? Come to think of it, they can get a much higher yield on Venezuelan government bonds.

And here I thought the Chinese dumped the Treasures a couple years back.
[KCNAWATCH.CO] It is the consistent and steadfast stand of the DPRK to advance along the path of independence, socialism and independent reunification without the slightest vacillation under any changing situation.
A dramatic turn is taking place in the relations between the north and the south of Korea and the situation on the Korean Peninsula thanks to the consistent stand of the DPRK on independent reunification.
The DPRK's Juche-based line of national reunification is the most just line as it reflects the aspiration and demand of all the countrymen in the north and the south and overseas
The DPRK's Juche-based line of national reunification is the most just line as it reflects the aspiration and demand of all the countrymen in the north and the south and overseas for the reunification of the country, peace on the Korean peninsula and the prosperity of the nation.
No one can substitute in accomplishing the cause of national reunification and it can be achieved only by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it.
The DPRK has worked hard to reunify the country by the concerted efforts on the principle of national independence while rejecting outside forces opposed to reunification. The patriotic efforts of the DPRK to reunify the country independently under the unfurled banner of national independence have garnered support and approval of all the countrymen and it has become the factor of propelling the victorious advance of the cause of national reunification.
History and reality clearly prove how just the DPRK was when it has pushed ahead with the building of a socialist powerful nation and the cause of national reunification along the immutable orbit by taking the principle of independence as the lifeline.
The DPRK will as ever more dynamically advance along the road of independence and socialism and work hard to write a new history of independent reunification By Our Nation Itself.

Maybe they should just follow the British model and make Kim Jong-un the powerless monarch of a unified Korea. Let him *seem* important and live the life of luxury in exchange for peaceful unification.
It would be unjust after all the hell he's caused but it might avoid war and/or starvation that would lead to millions of deaths and monarchs can always be beheaded at a later date.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] North Korea has told the United States for the first time that it is prepared to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula when North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un ...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished... meets President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... , a US official said on Sunday. The usual pattern: Hysterical Sea of Fire® threats, followed by promises and hand kissing, to be followed by "humanitarian" aid.
US and North Korean officials have held secret contacts recently in which Pyongyang directly delivered the message of its willingness to hold the summit, the official told Rooters, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... . Until now, Washington had relied on South Korea’s assurance of Kim’s intentions.

And when these talks fail, the US can become unconcerned with Japanese, South Korean and Taiwanese nuclear weapons.
Maybe some ballistic missile plans will also be found on old Loral servers.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
