Hawaii governor loses primary
[ABCNEWS.GO] A 40-year political career came to a close after Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie lost his bid for a second term in a stunning primary-election defeat by a fellow Democrat and state senator who defied party leadership to challenge the incumbent. A second intraparty fight for U.S. Senate was too close to call.

State Sen. David Ige, once seen as an underdog, cruised to a decisive 35 percentage point win in Saturday's primary after being dramatically outspent by Abercrombie, who also had high-profile endorsements including President Barack Obama
If you like your coverage you can keep it...
. Ige said his win "proves that people power can be money power, especially in Hawaii."

Tropical Storm Iselle, which pounded parts of the state earlier this week, also delivered a bizarre twist to Hawaii's election, leaving the heated contest between incumbent Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz and U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa too close to declare a winner.

In an unprecedented move, elections officials postponed voting in two precincts in the remote Puna region of the Big Island, deciding that damaged roads would make it unsafe for voters to get to the polls. With Schatz holding only a narrow lead over Hanabusa, both candidates will have to wait for the results from mail-in ballots that will be sent to as many as 8,255 registered voters there, then returned and tabulated.

Both races divided the state's dominant Democratic Party and offered voters a choice between the political establishment and a new generation of leaders.

Abercrombie called his four years as governor "a singular honor," and pledged in an email to help Ige "with every ounce of energy I possess."

"Whatever shortcomings I have, whatever faults that I have, I can guarantee you one of them has never been a failure to give all that I can every day to Hawaii," he told supporters Saturday night.

Abercrombie is the first Hawaii governor to lose to a primary challenger and only the second not to win re-election. His defeat comes after Obama last month cut a radio ad for Abercrombie, invoking the Hawaiian word for family to tell voters in his native state that Abercrombie is "like ohana to me."

But there is no connection, right? I mean, it's certainly no reflection on the President, is it?

[crosses fingers] I pray it is exactly that reflection, and that we see it again big time, in a few months.

Hillary Clinton: Hamas responsible for civilian deaths in Gaza
[Jpost] Likely 2016 presidential candidate tells 'Atlantic' that Israel has right to respond to rockets; says anti-Semitism a factor in world scrutiny of Israel.
And President Obama, while in Israel, said that no nation would put up with rockets from Gaza. And yet there he is, doing his best to keep Israel from daring to defend itself.

#4  She is a leftist of the Alinsky stripe as is Obama. Her thesis was about Alinsky, the first community organizer. Wll, maybe not the first. Alinsky's dedication in Rules for Radicals was: "Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends and history ... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment that he at least won his own kingdom -- Lucifer." - Saul Alinksy She is channeling someone in the middle or middle right just as long as it serves her purpose--getting support and securing votes. She is distancing herself from Obama because she knows he has become a loser, a liability. She was Secretary of State under Obama. These leftards/progressives/liberals/Democrats/statists will change their name, their beliefs, and lie to achieve their ends--after all with them the ends justify the means. I hope people don't fall for her new line of malarkey.

#5  JohnQC on the "I hope people don't fall for her new line of malarkey."

The former President and his wife are in a Hamptons hamlet called Amagansett for August, the political pair have sparked a bit of controversy recently after it was revealed that they are paying $100,000 for their three-week stay - just weeks after Mrs Clinton claimed that they were 'dead broke' after leaving the White House in 2000.

A straw visor and muumuu for Hillary and SoulCycle shorts for Bill: Relaxed Clintons enjoy some downtime on the beach with their dogs.

Malarkey also malarky ( m-lr ' k ) n. Slang Exaggerated or foolish talk, usually intended to deceive: 'snookered by a lot of malarkey'

Isn't one of their dogs named - Malarky if so, then the other one might be named - Snooker.

If not then, perhaps we have a new moniker for Bill and Hillary. ;-)

Iraq
Sen. Elizabeth Warren supports President Obama's airstrikes in Iraq
Just for fun and a bit of exercise, try to see if there's any political bias in the article.
BOSTON — Warning against a new U.S. war in Iraq, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Friday stood by President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
's decision to authorize targeted Arclight airstrikes to help defend Americans in Erbil, Iraq, and provide aid to a religious minority taking refuge in the Sinjar mountains. On Thursday night, Obama announced he had authorized air strikes to protect American diplomats, civilians and military personnel in Erbil, and humanitarian air drops of food and water had already begun to assist Yezidis, a religious minority, who fled to the Sinjar mountains.

Renowned for its financing strategies and media savvy and feared for its brutality, a group of Sunni sectarian hard boyz that now calls itself The Islamic State has expanded out of war-torn Syria into Iraq, where it imposes taxes and kills people of other religions, according to news accounts.

An American-led invasion of Iraq was launched in March 2003, starting a war that was divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
politically and costly. After Obama failed at reaching accord on a new status of force [sic] agreement with the Iraqi government, the U.S. stuck to an earlier timetable, withdrawing troops from the country by Dec. 31, 2011.

"It's a complicated situation right now in Iraq and the president has taken very targeted actions to provide humanitarian relief that the Iraqi government requested, and to protect American citizens," Warren told news hounds. "But like the president I believe that any solution in Iraq is going to be a negotiated solution, not a military solution. We do not want to be pulled into another war in Iraq."

Warren said the actions announced by Obama will change the dynamic in the country, which has a Shi'ite led government and an independent Kurdish region in the north.

"It's a very complicated situation in Iraq. The president has now taken two very targeted actions, and those two actions will change the mix of what's happening in Iraq, and we'll have to just monitor it," Warren said.

Warren was in the State House for a closed-door meeting between state and federal officials and Jorge Carlos Fonseca, the president of Cape Verde. Asked if she had a broader plan for dealing with the crisis in Iraq, Warren said, "Certainly these Arclight airstrikes are going to change the mix of what's going on, so we'll just have to monitor it literally day by day, hour by hour."
The burning question is, as an inexperienced Senator from the Peoples' Democratic Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a legislative record only slightly better than that of Hillary Clinton, why she was asked a foreign-policy question in the first place. Perhaps she's being groomed to replace John Kerry...

She's being groomed to replace Champ...
She was a professor of some sort before she went into politics. She'll do meetings with the president quite well, I'm sure, and isn't that the key skill for the job? She's also Valerie Jarrett's choice for presidential candidate over that Clinton female, I believe. SoS would check off that crucial international experience box, neutralizing Ms Clinton's advantage, and of course she also has all that experience being a Senator...
While calling for a negotiated solution, Warren said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is a terrorist organization and the U.S. does not negotiate with terrorists, while leaving open the possibility the U.S. could assist the Iraqi government negotiating with ISIS.

"The point is there has to be a negotiated solution in Iraq, but we don't negotiate with terrorists," Warren said. She said, "This is partially a question of whether the U.S. government negotiates or whether we have the Iraqi government doing these negotiations, and how we help support them as they try to maintain an integrated country, and a country that better represents all of the people who live there."

Warren said her caution not to entangle the United States in another military conflict in Iraq is a viewpoint shared across the country.

"I am concerned that none of us want to be pulled into a war in Iraq. I think that's clear across this country, and I feel very strongly about that," Warren said.

A champion of those squeezed by big banks who toppled Scott Downtown Scotty Brown in a 2012 election for the seat, Warren is a favorite among liberals, and regularly disavows any plans to seek the president [sic].
And there, Dear Reader, is the "money quote."

ISIL is coming to US: Sen. Graham
[Iran Press TV] Senator Lindsey Graham

of South Carolina has told "Fox News Sunday" that the myrmidon Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
group ISIL - which also goes by the name of ISIS and IS - poses a real threat to the US.

He has urged President Barack Obama
Because I won...
to expand limited Arclight airstrikes on the murderous Moslems that began last week in Iraq.

"I think of an American city in flames because of the terrorist ability to operate in Syria and Iraq -- to change that threat, we have to have a sustained air campaign in Syria and Iraq. We need to go on offense," Graham, who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said.

"They're coming here ... This is not just about Baghdad, not just about Syria. It's about our homeland," Graham added.

A leading Republican senator has said that he worries an American city could soon be a terrorist target if the US military fails to turn back the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...

The United States last week launched Arclight airstrikes against the murderous Moslems who have overran parts of western and northern Iraq. They seeking create a "caliphate" to combine with areas they control in neighboring Syria.
