[Tolo News] Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
MP Faridoon Momand said on Sunday that Taliban faceless myrmidons kidnapped 42 tribal elders and residents of Goshta District three days ago.

According to Momand, the gunnies have already killed one of the elders. He said the abductions were punishment for cooperating with the government and allowing sons to join the security forces.

Mr. Momand claimed the elders had been taken to Lal Por District, which is one of the most areas of the province.

But the spokesperson of the Nangarhar Governor's office, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, asserted that only 33 elders were kidnapped and 13 of them have already been released following negotiations.

Goshta District is located in the northeastern region of of Nangarhar Province and borders the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistain.

Previously, Residents of Hisarak District of Nangarhar launched an uprising against local turban groups, a move that made way for a decisive military operation to clear faceless myrmidons from the area. In total, 57 armed faceless myrmidons were killed and four others were maimed.

The news comes a week after 21 Afghan soldiers were killed and four others kidnapped during a Taliban ambush on an army outpost in eastern Kunar province

125 suspects referred to court over 6 October riot
[Egypt Independent] North Giza prosecution referred 125 suspects affiliated to the Moslem Brüderbund and revolutionary groups to Misdemeanor Court for allegedly rioting, resisting police in Dokki and Mohie Eddin Abul Ezz street on 6 October during a march for the Brotherhood from Giza Square to Tahrir while in possession of weapons.

A date for trial will be announced, according to prosecution, though sources said the first session will be on 29 March.

Prosecution accused the suspects of rioting, possessing arms, thuggery, hampering traffic and resisting police.

Prosecution faced the suspects with new videos that show some of them shooting residents and police after failing to pass from Dokki toward Tahrir.

Investigations showed that the Brotherhood supporters were staging marches across Nahda and Giza squares. When residents prevented them for shouting anti-military slogans on 6 October, the protesters used the weapons to intimidate the citizens, ahead of police arrival. The suspects were incarcerated

after breaking into Dokki cop shoppe and setting it on fire.

The supporters allegedly smashed four police vehicles, and 20 private ones, destroying stores and hurling stones on the cop shoppe.

2 MPs Shot as Dozens of Protesters Storm Libya Parliament
[An Nahar] Dozens of protesters on Sunday stormed Libya's interim parliament, the General National Congress, with some of them rampaging through the building, witnesses said.

Two members of the parliament were shot and maimed when protesters stormed the building, said the speaker of the assembly.

"Two members (of the GNC) were hit by bullets when they tried to leave the venue in their cars," Nouri Abu Sahmein said on al-Nabaa television station, blaming "armed protesters" for the shooting.

The protesters demanded the dissolution of the GNC and railed against the "kidnapping" overnight of demonstrators from a sit-in outside the parliament.

In a brief statement, the justice ministry denounced the abduction "of youths who were expressing their views."

Earlier protesters said gunnies had broken up the sit-in on Saturday night before detaining some of them, without being able to give a figure.

"Armed men came firing in the air and they set fire to a tent set up by demonstrators" in front of the GNC, Libya's highest political authority, said protester Milad al-Arbi.

On Sunday, residents blocked roads in the area to demand the release of those held, an Agence La Belle France Presse photographer said.

According to demonstrators, the gunnies belonged to the Operations Cell of Libyan Revolutionaries, a former rebel group which operates under the GNC's command.

The Congress, elected after the 2011 revolution which ousted Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy
... who had more funny outfits than Louis XIV...
, has stirred popular anger by extending its mandate, which was due to expire in early February, until the end of December.

Under pressure from demonstrators, the GNC has announced that early elections will be held but without setting a date.

Islamist Shot Dead East of Algiers
[An Nahar] The Algerian army rubbed out an Islamist in a mountainous region east of the capital Algiers, the defense ministry said Sunday.

It said "a terrorist was rubbed out" on Saturday in an area between Tizi-Ouzou and corpse-littered Boumerdes, located 120 and 50 kilometers (75 and 30 miles) from Algiers, respectively.

A hunting rifle and three bombs were recovered during the operation, the defense ministry said in a statement on its website.

Last Tuesday, it reported a similar incident in the same region during which another armed man was killed, with three hunting rifles and four bombs recovered.

The region east of Algiers, with its mountains and forests, was a heartland of the Islamist insurrection during Algeria's devastating civil war of the 1990s.

Violence blamed on Islamists has declined considerably in recent years.

But groups affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb continue to attack strategic targets in the eastern Kabylie region, around the capital and in the south.

Gunmen Disperse Sit-In Demo against Libya Parliament
[An Nahar] Gunmen dispersed a sit-in protest outside Libya's interim parliament overnight, firing in the air and detaining demonstrators, witnesses said on Sunday.

Quarrel between army, police personnel in Imbaba contained
[Egypt Independent] An altercation occurred on Sunday afternoon between army and police personnel outside Imbaba Police Station after which tear gas was fired to disperse combatants.

No injuries were reported.

Major General Mahmoud Farouk, Director of Giza Department, told Al-Masry Al-Youm an altercation took place on Sunday afternoon between a number of armed forces and police soldiers.

He denied that the altercation turned into a fight, adding other security forces intervened and contained the situation.

An official source at Giza Security Directorate said that the quarrel occurred after a member of the Police Department of Imbaba tried to corner his cycle of violence next to an armed forces tank and the soldiers refused to allow him.

The quarrel led to an altercation between soldiers of the armed forces and other police personnel, the source added.

The source mentioned that an army personnel fired tear gas to break up the fight and other senior police leaders intervened to contain the situation before it aggravated.

Military police personnel were dispatched to the area of the quarrel after it was ended for security and Major General Kamal al-Daly ordered an internal investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.

Africa Subsaharan
Fresh Boko Haram Attack Kills Several People in Maiduguri
[THISDAYLIVE] A twin-bomb kaboom, which reportedly killed several persons, Saturday sent troubled Maiduguri into panic. The kaboom happened at a densely populated part of the town, Ajilari-Bintu Sugar, at about 6 pm when a pickup van loaded with fire woods suddenly went kaboom! and burst into flames.

This incident occured on the heels of the intensification of multi-pronged enquiries aimed at understanding the reasons behind the increase in successful attacks by members of the outlawed Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
sect against civilian populations by the Nigerian Military and security agencies.

The residents of the area, who spoke to journalists on phone, said the pickup van was parked very close to the commercial area where people gathered to buy food for their dinner. The kaboom claimed many lives especially among the vendors of fried bean-cake, roasted and fried fish and barbecue, said an eyewitness.

Among those killed were those that besieged the commercial area to buy their dinner and passersby. The eyewitness likened the effects of the twin kaboom to an earthquake and said that many people in the area still feared that another bomb may have been planted in the area.

Another eyewitness account said that many residents had started fleeing the area out of fear. Youth volunteers, according to the witness, have also taken to the area to comb the surrounding for those likely to have planted the bomb.

Expectedly, several residents of Maiduguri have become apprehensive, fearing that the city may have returned to the dark days of 2012 when there was hardly a single day without kaboom.

Both police and military authorities could not be reached at the time of filing this report for comments.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
there is a general feeling of anger and dejection amongst the military hierarchy over what they described as a calculated sabotage by some moles within their ranks, and well-coordinated verbal attacks by both the civil populace, especially some prominent citizens to lower the morale of the soldiers.

According to some top military sources, who confided in THISDAY, such attempts to dampen the morale of the military, "which is already having dangerous consequences", could backfire, warning that it could be a matter of time before North West or Abuja is attacked if the trend continues.

"Do you know that what these people are doing is to tie the hands of the military?" one of the sources said. "Look at the other day, the Attorney-General of the Federation was threatening the military with Human rights violation, while at the same time the Governor of Borno State was castigating the same institution.

"There is a dangerous effort to dampen the morale of the military, and if this ever happens it could be catastrophic."

Another source, who spoke with THISDAY, warned: "As things stands, North West can implode anytime, and all it takes is an unfortunate attack in one or two areas in Abuja to set the whole country ablaze. So I feel those who are questioning the ability of the military don't know the consequences of their actions."

Some military officers and commanders, it was confirmed, were being questioned in connection with the Yobe school massacre with a view to ascertaining the reason for intelligence failure. "I can tell you that people are seriously being questioned, interrogation is going on and acts of sabotage are also not ruled out," the source confirmed.

THISDAY further gathered that the military authorities are conducting comprehensive investigation in all its formations in the North East, and particularly the commanders in charge of the conflict areas.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
the Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major-Gen. Chris Olukolade, explained that questioning of military officers in the line of duty has always been a routine exercise and denied the existence of any Investigative Military Panel aimed at indicting any officer or soldier concerning the Yobe, Borno or Adamawa massacres.

Arabia
Yemen Army Plane Makes Emergency Landing, Crew Abducted
[An Nahar] Anti-government rustics kidnapped the six crew members of a Yemeni military plane Sunday after it made an emergency landing in an eastern desert for technical reasons, military and local sources said.

The aircraft, a Russian-made Antonov-26 twin-engine turboprob, was carrying supplies from Sanaa to Masila oilfields in the east when a technical glitch forced it to land in Hadramawt province, said General Khaled al-Kothairi, who heads a military unit tasked with protecting oil companies.

The pilot, co-pilot, and four soldiers who were on board the aircraft, are safe, he said.

But another military official said that as soon as the jet landed, armed rustics captured the crew and a local government official confirmed they were kidnapped.

"Contacts are underway with the gunnies to secure the release of the crew and allow the army to repair the aircraft and return it to Sanaa," the military official said.

The armed forces have been flying supplies to Masila oilfields five times a week over the past few months, after rustics blocked roads in the region to protest against the killing of one of their chiefs.

Supporters of slain tribal chief Said Ben Habrish have vowed to avenge him by preventing authorities from repairing the pipeline that links Masila oilfield to al-Daba port on the Gulf of Aden.

The move is aimed at depriving the cash-strapped government of Yemen, an impoverished country that relies on oil revenues from a small oil production industry, to shore up its budget.

Tribesmen have blown up pipelines in the restive Hadramawt province and in February they ambushed a military convoy that was escorting technicians on their way to repair a pipeline, killing four soldiers and wounding others.

At least 11 killed in assault on Islamabad court complex
At least 11 people were killed in an attack at a court in Islamabad today.

Gunmen burst into the court complex and opened fire before at least two suicide bombers detonated explosives during the morning when crowds gather. A judge and several lawyers are said to be among those killed and at least 24 people were injured.

No group has yet taken responsibility the attack - one of the deadliest assaults on the capital for years.

Police officials say this was a complex attack. They say an unknown number of gunmen, thought to be armed with grenades as well as AK47 assault rifles, stormed the area where judges' chambers and lawyers' offices are located, a maze of corridors and walkways.

Islamabad police chief Sikandar Hayat said that two of the attackers blew themselves up when surrounded by police.

A day after Taliban ceasefire: jets bomb Taliban hideout; five killed
That's the thing about hudnas: it's a race to see who breaks them first. This time the air force won.
[Pak Daily Times] Warplanes bombed the hideout of a bad boy leader, killing five bad boys, the military said on Sunday, only a day after the Pak Taliban declared a one-month ceasefire to pursue stalled peace talks with the government.

The target of the attack, Mullah Tamanchey, directed a deadly assault against a convoy carrying a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination team and security forces on Saturday in which 12 people were killed, the military said. "The government is not going to tolerate any act of terror and any act will be replied to," said a Pak security official who asked not to be identified. Hours after the attack on the convoy, the Taliban had said they would observe a one-month ceasefire to try to revive peace talks that failed last month.

It also called on other bad boy groups to observe the ceasefire. A government negotiator told Rooters they were open to restarting peace talks as long as the Taliban and its affiliates honoured the ceasefire. Tahir Ashrafi, head of the country's largest alliance of holy mans, said that the Taliban should release kidnap victims, safeguard polio workers and produce the bodies of slain paramilitary forces to demonstrate their sincerity.

The government should release suspected turbans from prison if there was no evidence against them, he said. The Pak Taliban says it is fighting to overthrow the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

and replace it with a state ruled under Islamic law. Nawaz has been pursuing peace talks since he was elected in May. Soon after the talks finally began on February 6 the Taliban bombed a police bus in Bloody Karachi

, killing 13 people.

The talks foundered days later when a Taliban faction claimed to have killed 23 paramilitary forces. The same night the military began bombing areas in the northwest that it said were bad boy hideouts. In recent weeks speculation has been mounting that the military would launch a ground operation in North Wazoo, a tribal region along the border with Afghanistan. US generals serving in Afghanistan have often complained that Pakistain, while fighting the Pak Taliban, has allowed other bad boy groups to have safe havens in its tribal regions.

Mullah Tamanchey, the target of Sunday's bombing, is the leader of a small bad boy faction affiliated with the Taliban and opposed polio vaccination. Meanwhile,

Govt halts air strikes; will only retaliate to violence
[Pak Daily Times] In a balancing act, the federal government on Sunday matched the Taliban's one-month ceasefire with announcement to suspend Arclight airstrikes in the volatile tribal areas that have left more than 100 hard boyz dead so far.

The announcement by the government to ground its fighter jets comes a day after Taliban announced they had decided 'not to carry out any activities for one month following a positive response from the government, an appeal from religious scholars, in honour of the representative committee and in the greater interest of Islam and Pakistain'.

"We announce a month-long ceasefire from today and advise all our companions and subgroups to respect the decision and completely refrain from all jihad activities during this time period," a TTP statement issued on Saturday read.

The interior minister said government considered Taliban's announcement of ceasefire as a positive development. "After the positive announcement yesterday by the Taliban, the government has decided to halt the air strikes which were continuing for the past few days," Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said in a statement. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
he warned that government would 'effectively' retaliate to any act of violence by the Taliban. "Government and the army reserve the right to effectively respond to any act of violence," the statement maintained.

Nisar clarified that the PML-N government, since coming into power in June last year, neither launched a formal military operation nor it resorted to any unnecessary action against Taliban. He said any action taken by the security forces in the tribal areas was 'a response to Taliban attack or to stop a violent activity'.

As the government announced halt to air strikes, warplanes bombed hideout of Mullah Tamanchey in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, killing five suspected terrorists. Tamanchey is accused of directing a deadly attack against a convoy carrying a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination team and security forces in Jamrud tehsil on Saturday, in which 13 people were killed.

Soon after the ceasefire announcement by the TTP on Saturday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had told Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
that the government will positively respond to Taliban's gesture.

Where the reciprocation by the government has revived the hopes for resumption of peace talks that floundered over killing of 23 kidnapped FC soldiers by Taliban, TTP's ceasefire announcement is being seen by some quarters as a tactical move to get some breathing space to regroup after suffering heavy losses in the air strikes. The unilateral announcement by Taliban to hold guns while backtracking from tough demands they had initially put forward for a ceasefire has given rise to scepticism even in the military circles who are seeing it a time-buying ploy to avert an expected full-fledged military operation.

Six Members of Security Forces Killed in Iraq
[An Nahar] Attacks in predominantly Sunni Arab areas north and west of Storied Baghdad on Sunday killed six people, all members of the security forces, the latest in a year-long surge in bloodshed.

Less than two months before parliamentary elections, Iraq is mired in its worst violence since 2008, when it was emerging from a period of brutal sectarian bloodletting that killed tens of thousands of people.

The spike has been driven by widespread discontent among the minority Sunni Arab community, which complains of being marginalised and unfairly targeted with heavy-handed security measures, and by the civil war in neighbouring Syria.

Sunday's violence mostly targeting security forces in Sunni-majority areas killed six people, security and medical officials said.

Among the dead were three soldiers, a police officer and an anti-Qaeda militiaman in attacks in Hawijah, Balad, Baiji and on Storied Baghdad's western outskirts.

Also on Sunday, a bodyguard of Deputy Electricity Minister Khaled Hassan was killed and another was maimed when hard boyz attacked the official's convoy north of the capital, Hassan told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Efforts by authorities in recent months to curb bloodshed, mainly military operations and concessions that fall short of Sunni demands, have had little effect.

Three ‘rogue’ Moro militants killed in Mindanao clash
The Philippine military on Sunday reported that three suspected members of a breakaway group from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were killed when they attacked an army encampment in Mindanao's Maguindanao province.

Military spokesman Colonel Dickson Hermoso said three soldiers were also injured in the attack launched by members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the town of Datu Saudi Ampatuan late on Saturday night. He said, “They conducted harassment against the troops by firing several mortar rounds at the military encampment,” adding the attack was meant to derail the signing of a peace agreement between the government and the MILF in March.

But Abu Misry Mama, the BIFF spokesman, denied the attack aimed to derail the peace process, saying, “The peace deal is a non-issue to us. Our struggle continues. We have nothing to do with the agreement.”

Mama also disputed Hermoso’s report that three BIFF members were killed and claimed instead it was the terrorists insurgents who inflicted “big casualties” on Philippine security forces.

Tunisian Arrested for Trying to Enter Qalamoun from Arsal
[An Nahar] A Tunisian man was tossed in the clink
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
Sunday for trying to cross into Syria's Qalamoun from the Bekaa region, Leb's National News Agency reported.

"The Lebanese Army arrested Tunisian national Bassem bin Mohammed al-Silti while he was en route from Jib Janine to Arsal on his way to Qalamoun in Syria," NNA said.

The agency said the man received treatment at the Jib Janine hospital in the Bekaa after he was maimed during battles in Qalamoun.

The Syrian army and Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
fighters have expelled rebels from several strategic towns in Qalamoun, but Yabrud -- the largest in the region -- has so far remained an opposition stronghold.

Arsal Man Who Sent al-Labweh Bomb-Laden Car Killed in Syria
[An Nahar] The man who was behind sending a booby-trapped car that was seized in the Bekaa town of al-Labweh has been killed in festivities in Syria.

"Lebanese national Hasan Mohammed Ammoun and five Syrians were killed in the ongoing battles between the Syrian army and opposition in (Syria's) Yabrud," LBCI television reported.

State-run National News Agency published the same report but identified the man as Hussein Mohammed Ammoun.

"His body will be transferred to Arsal, his hometown," LBCI added.

It described Ammoun as "one of the most dangerous runaways who are wanted by security agencies," saying "he was the one who handed the bomb-laden Kia that was seized at al-Labweh checkpoint to Joumana Hmayyed last month."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
al-Jadeed television said "the dangerous runaway H. A. was found killed in Arsal's outskirts."

The army intercepted the booby-trapped vehicle on February 12 on the Arsal-al-Labweh road.

In addition to Joumana Hmayyed, the car contained two other women who hail from Arsal.

Media reports said the car was headed for Beirut where it was supposed to be handed over to would-be suicide-bombers.

Quoting military sources, LBCI said the women confessed to plotting "a triple bombing during which the car and two jacket wallahs were supposed to blow up."

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
two of the three women were eventually released a few days later while the driver Joumana Hmayyed was kept in jug.

"State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr ordered the release of Hala Rayed and Khadijeh Audeh for not having any links with the incident," state-run National News Agency said at the time.

Arsal lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict that erupted in 2011.

The Lebanese army has several times seized cars loaded with arms and ammunition in the town and its outskirts.

Army Foils Attempt to Smuggle Wanted Suspect in Tripoli
[An Nahar] The army detained on Sunday a wanted suspect in al-Mankoubeen area in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
after an attempt by some residents to smuggle him.

According to the state-run National News Agency, a quarrel occurred between the army and a wanted suspect on the international highway in al-Badawi, which links Tripoli with the northern district of Akkar and the Syrian border.

The NNA said that the army exchanged fire with Khaled Sferjalani, who is also known as Abou Awad, during his arrest.

Several people gathered in the area in an attempt to smuggle the wanted suspect, blocking the two lanes of the road.

The matter prompted the army to open fire and forcefully open the road and arrest the wanted suspect by using light arms and an Energa-type grenade .

Additional reinforcements, including tanks and the army's personnel carriers, arrived at the scene.

Clashes Shatter Truce in Syria's Yarmuk Camp
[An Nahar] Firefights and shelling on Sunday shattered a weeks-old truce at the Yarmuk Paleostinian camp in Damascus, but a ceasefire allowed residents to return to another besieged area near Syria's capital.

Syria's three-year conflict is estimated to have killed more than 140,000 people, forced millions to flee the homes, and taken a brutal toll on children increasingly threatened by disease.

On Sunday the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
said millions of children across the Middle East were to be vaccinated against polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
after the crippling illness resurfaced in Syria for the first time in 15 years.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck and Manuel's rivalry was entering a new and more dangerous phase...
some good news emerged with Spanish journalist Marc Marginedas released by jihadists in Syria after six months in captivity, said his employer El Periodico newspaper.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front and the pro-regime Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine-General Command had resumed hostilities in Yarmuk.

"The truce has been broken," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The ceasefire had taken hold on February 10 when Al-Nusra withdrew its fighters from Yarmuk after months of fierce battles between rebels and forces loyal to Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
.

The army laid siege to the camp, trapping tens of thousands of people inside, including Paleostinian refugees and Syrians who had fled violence from other parts of the country.

The camp's population shrunk to 40,000 from more than 150,000 and conditions deteriorated to the extent that residents were forced to eat grass to survive, with some dying of starvation, activists have said.
