Puntland forces recover weapons from Shaboob lairs
BOSSASO, Somalia -- Puntland Government in northern Somalia unveiled that Puntland defense forces recovered heavy ammunitions, explosive devices, medical drugs and solar equipments from Al Shabaab hideouts following deadly assault on the militant group's base in Galgala area near the Golis Mountain range, Garowe Online reports.

The seized materials have been presented to the media during a joint press conference in the port city of Bossaso by Puntland Deputy Police Chief Gen. Muhyadin Ahmed Musse and the acting Deputy Security Minister Abdijamal Osman Mohamed on Sunday.

Gen. Musse thanked Puntland forces for dismantling Al Shabaab hideouts and said "battalions from Puntland defense forces executed national duty to drive Al Shabaab remnants out of their areas".

"Our forces are on high alert for all terror threats and they will closely follow the ongoing issues," he added.

Meanwhile, the acting Deputy Minister of Security Mohamed reiterated Puntland government's commitment to eliminating terror acts, declaring that the government will soon step up clean-up operations.

Puntland forces yesterday attacked Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants' bases in Galgala vicinity, killing three fighters and wounding seven others.

As anti-Al Shabaab military offensives continue to intensify in southern Somalia, fugitive extremists infiltrated into the northeastern Golis Mountains where they regrouped to form underground cells and launch attacks.

JSOC commando who saved ‘numerous lives’ in Benghazi seige honored
[Washington Times] The Army citation reads:

“Without regard for his own safety, Master Sergeant Halbruner’s valorous actions, dedication to duty and willingness to place himself in harm’s way for the protection of others was critical to the success of saving numerous United States civilian lives. Throughout the operation, Master Sergeant Halbruner continually exposed himself to fire as he shepherded unarmed civilians to safety and treated the critically wounded. His calm demeanor, professionalism and courage was an inspiration to all and contributed directly to the success of the mission. Master Sergeant Halbruner’s distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his Command and the United States Army.”

#3  Pappy,

If this guy is part of another team, is it a team we haven't been told about, one not referenced in the reports? I watched the October hearings, which didn't get as much hype as the later ones, although the information was pretty heavy. Nothing about active duty types involved.
IIRC, this is the only active duty military type to be mentioned. We have ex Navy Seals. But this is the first serving troop I can recall.

#4  Correct Richard. Another thing that is strange. Who leaked the award certificate? JSOC operator's (Special Mission Unit or SMU) files are kept separately from the big army, cloistered (with documents classified). Security forces free 18 Warshefana locals as UN calls for end to violence
[Libya Herald] Eighteen local Warshefana residents who were among the more than 80 locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
by the security forces in festivities in the district during the past nine days have been freed today and handed over to their families. A source with the Joint Forces' Rapid Response Unit which has been conducting the operations in the area told the Libya Herald that there was no evidence that any of the 18 had been involved either in criminal activities or in the fighting.

Of the others arrested, the source said, some had been caught carrying guns and others were accused of criminal activities, including theft. They were still being interrogated. In particular, they were being questioned as to the whereabouts of other wanted suspects and the location of arms caches.

When security forces launched their dragnet in the area on 19 January, they said they were looking for 177 suspects wanted by the Public Prosecutor. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the operation rapidly developed into a wider clash between Warshefana locals and the security forces.

Responding to the fighting, the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) today called on all parties involved to "exert every effort to reach a prompt end to violence and restore security and stability in the area".

UNSMIL said it was greatly concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the Warshefana and neighbouring areas. It urged all concerned to work with the ministerial committee set up by the government's announcement oto investigate and resolve the crisis.

Although two members of the Rapid Response Unit, one of them from Nalut, were killed by sniper fire the day before yesterday, the situation is the district today is relatively quiet with just occasional shots being fired. The situation is, however, seen as highly precarious.

Reports that non-Warshefana residents are now being forced out of the area have not been confirmed.

Fighting at Sebha airbase against Qaddafi supporters
[Libya Herald] There are reports this evening of fighting around the Tamenhint airbase near Sebha between Qadaffy supporters and Misrtatan forces that arrived from Jufra district where they have been based for the past few days. Misratan souces have told the Libya Herald that the base has now been liberated but that most of the Qadadfi supporters escaped. There were reports too of air cover being given to the Misratans.

Sources in Sebha, however, told this newspaper that fighting was still continuing and that it was taking place north of Tamenhint, on the Sebha-Hun road.

Attempts to contact Mohammed Al-Busaify, Sebha's military commander have been unsuccessful.

The airbase was originally seized by Qadaffy supporters and held for the day on 15 January. It was then retaken by them after after Tebu forces from Murzuk who were guarding it withdrew claimed they were being exploited by the authorities. .

It has been suggested that the Qadaffy supporters at the base and elsewhere in the country who surfaced following the airbase takeover were responding to instructions from Saadi Qadaffy in Niger. On Saturday, the Niger government ordered him back to the house in Niamey where he had been held, saying he had violated the house arrest agreement.

Arabia
Clashes just north of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a
[Yemen Post] As officials in the eastern province of Shabwa confirmed on Monday that festivities took place in between secessionist snuffies and the armed forces, tribal sources spoke of renewed violence in Arhab, located directly north of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, opposing the Houthis and local rustics affiliated to al-Islah, Yemen' Sunni radical faction.

With violent armed confrontations taking place both north and south of Yemen, the impoverished nation seems ever more on the brink of collapse, only days after the international community hailed its National Dialogue Conference a "historical success" and testament of Yemenis' dedication to democracy.

Armed only with a political and institutional timetable and no real practical solutions, President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi, whose presidential term, has been de facto extended ad vitam eternam since attached to the resolution of Yemen's power transfer; faces the same demons: insecurity, political instability and calls for secession, as he did on the onset of the NDC.

Officials in Sana'a confirmed this Monday that festivities first broke out in the early hours of the morning in Arhab where Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America", Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
snuffies have allegedly attacked Salafi positions as to regain ground on the group and secure a foothold on the outskirts of Sana'a. Although President Hadi imposed a truce on the two warring factions earlier this month, sporadic festivities have threatened to lay waste all peace efforts in the northern highlands.

Arahb rustics have been adamant the Houthis are to blame for the violence as they claim they are waging "a terrorist invasion" upon their lands in order to impose their School of thought: Shia Islam, upon the region.

Bangladesh
Mufti Jasim, 7 NSU students charged
This is the Bangla press version of the preceding Pak press story. Differences between the two: Names. Organizations.
[Bangla Daily Star] Almost a year after the killing of blogger Rajib, detectives yesterday charged Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani, chief of emerging bully boy group Ansarullah Bangla Team, and seven students of North South University.

The students had vowed to kill "atheist bloggers" after reading Jasimuddin's books and listening to his sermons, the investigation officer said in the charge sheet.

They targeted Rajib "for his blog posts under the nick of Thabababa" and got divided into two -- "intel group" to collect his details and track him down and the "execution group" to carry out the murder.

The charge sheet mentioned Jasimuddin as the "instigator" while Redwanul Azad Rana, one of the seven students, as the "planner".

Rana is on the run while Jasimuddin and six others -- Md Faisal Bin Nayem alias Dweep, Maksudul Hasan alias Anik, Md Ehsan Reza alias Rumman, Nayem Sikdar alias Iraj, Nafis Imtiaz and Sadman Yasir Mahmud -- are in jug.

They gave confessional statements before magistrates on different dates.

In their confession, the NSU students said they vowed to kill anyone who would insult Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

According to their statements, Dweep was first to strike Rajib and others then assisted him.

Arrested on August 11 last year, Jasimuddin Rahmani confessed before a magistrate that students inspired by his sermons might have killed Rajib.

He realised that preaching such things aloud in public was not a right thing to do because there is law and court in the country. And anyone who would do anything wrong being provoked by his speeches should be tried under the law of the land, he said.

DB Inspector Nibaron Chandra Barman, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. The officer appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against Rana.

The charge sheet will be placed before a magistrate today for its acceptance.

Ahmed Rajib Haider, an activist of Shahbagh movement demanding death penalty for war criminals, was hacked to death in the capital's Pallabi on February 15 last year.

After the murder, radical Islamists spread propaganda that Shahbagh movement organisers, including Rajib, were "atheists". Hefajat-e-Islam
...a madrassa-based false nose and mustache of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, formed in 2010 to protest against secular education. In 2011 demonstrated violentyly against women's rights and in 2013 held large rallies demanding capital punishment of Shahbag Square protesters and banning women working outside the home...
, a Chittagong-based Islamist group, began to press for hanging of "atheist bloggers".

"Rajib was a progressive person and wrote fervently against communalism and religious extremism in his blog," said his father Dr Nazimuddin last night.

Talking to The Daily Star, he also said the allegation that Rajib insulted Islam and the Prophet Mohammad is baseless.

He expressed satisfaction over the progress of the case but said it raises concern that the "planner" behind crime is still not caught.

Cleric, students charged with blogger's murder in Bangladesh
[DAWN] Bangladesh police on Tuesday charged seven students of an elite university and a holy man over the murder of an allegedly atheist blogger who was critical of Islam and Islamic groups.

The students are accused of hacking to death Ahmed Rajib Haider, 35, near his home in Dhaka in February last year, days after he helped launch a campaign against Islamist leaders accused of war crimes.

Police also charged a holy man from a Dhaka mosque with instigating the murder by allegedly preaching that it was legal to kill atheist bloggers who campaigned against Islam.

"They killed him for his blasphemous writings against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI!)," Dhaka police deputy commissioner Masudur Rahman told AFP.

"The students used to go to the Mohammadpur mosque to listen to the sermons of the imam. They were inspired by his sermons to carry out the attack on the blogger," he said.

The body of Haider, better known by his Bengali online identity Thaba Baba, was found with hatchet wounds to the head in what police said was an apparent attempt to behead him.

Six out of the seven men -- all of whom are students of the prestigious and private North South University -- and the imam have been enjugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
and are being held in jail, Rahman said.

Haider's killing was the second attack in Dhaka against bloggers critical of Islam, after the stabbing of a self-styled "militant atheist" by three faceless myrmidons in January last year.

After Haider's death, Bangladesh's Islamic parties started to protest against other campaigning bloggers, calling a series of nationwide strikes to demand their execution, accusing them of blasphemy.

She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
reacted by arresting four bloggers including the "militant atheist" who was allegedly attacked by the same group of students accused of the murder.

The government also blocked about a dozen websites and blogs to stem the furor over blasphemy, as well as stepping up security for the bloggers.

A tribunal has handed down a series of verdicts against top Islamists and others for crimes committed during the war of independence from Pakistain in 1971.

[Bangla Daily Star] Two suspected criminals, including a leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party
...the Proletarian Party of East Bengal, a Maoist party that has seen better days. It supported independence in 1971 and has periodic shootouts and fisticuffs with the Bangla Jamaat-e-Islami, but has fallen on hard times, with many of its leaders rubbed out by the RAB or indignant citizenry. It is also subject to factionalism, to the extent that it may have more factions than it has actual members...
(PBCP), were killed in "shootouts" between their cohorts and law enforcers in Khulna and Jessore yesterday.

Including them the number of extrajudicial killings comes to 17 in this month. At least eight were killed while they were in jug of law enforcers. Police versions of the "shootouts" were found more or less similar.

Extrajudicial killings should be stopped immediately, said Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra, a rights body that provides legal aid.

"If they are really accused [of crimes], they should be punished through a proper judicial process," she said, adding such extrajudicial killings should not be allowed in any democratic country.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Don Smilzo looked for an avenue of escape. The only window opened a hundred feet above the moat. The nearest of the hired assassins hold a bloody axe.
The window was looking better all the time....

expressing concern over the recent spate of extrajudicial killings, Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
called for an independent investigation into the incidents.

Yesterday, Touhidul Islam Sabuj, 28, the second-in-command of PBCP, was killed in an exchange of shots between his party members and police in Phultala upazila of Khulna, according to police.

Sabuj and his associates were holding a meeting at Chatiantola in the upazila around 3:30am. On a tip-off,
"Hello? Is dis da cops? Lissen, dis is Mahmoud the Weasel..."
a police team led by the officer-in-charge of Phultala Police Station went to raid the area. A "shootout" ensued as they fired at the law enforcers, said the OC, Mohammad Elias Fakir.
"You may [BANG!] fire when ready, [BANG!] Sergeant Shafiq! [BANGETY BANG!]"
After the firing that lasted for nearly an hour, police found Sabuj lying in a pool of blood while his associates managed to flee.
"Cheaply made flip-flops, don't fail me now!"
He was taken to Phultala Upazila Health Complex where he departed this vale of tears nearly eight hours after the incident, the OC added.
"Dr. Quincy to the white courtesy phone! Dr. Quincy!"
However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
Monjur Morshed, upazila health and family planning officer, said he had heard from the doctor, who was on duty at the hospital at the time, that Sabuj was brought in dead.
"He's dead, Jim!"
Sabuj was accused in nine murder cases and three others filed under the Arms Act.
He had the death sentence on twelve systems!
Police said they had recovered two firearms, 19 bullets, six handmade bombs and two machetes from the spot.

In Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore, Rabiul Islam, 28, a member of a local gang, Mesbah Bahini, was killed in a "shootout" with the joint force, police sources said.
"It is the joint force! Open fire, men!"
This is the gang that had hacked and then burnt alive Chaitanya Kumar Mondol, 48, the youth and sports secretary of Magura ward Awami League, on Sunday night.

Police tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
Rabiul yesterday in connection with a mugging case.
"Stick 'em up!"
Acting on the information extracted from him,
"Ow! O-w-w-w-w! Make him stop! I confess! I killed Jon Benet!"
a team of the joint force conducted a drive at Ziadanga village in the upazila around 2:00am to recover arms, Syed Mostafa Kamal, assistant superintendent of police in Jessore, told The Daily Star.
"Yessir, that's what they done!"
As the law enforcers reached near a bamboo cluster of the village, cohorts of Mesbah-ur-Rahman, leader of the gang, opened fire on them, the ASP said.
"You'll never take me alive, coppers!"
The join force members fired back.
[BANG!] We knew that! [BANG!]
During the "shootout" Rabiul tried to run away
"I'm outta here!"
and got injured in the firing.
"Aaaaiiiieee! I am undone!"
He was rushed
"Is the ambulance here yet?"
"Patience! It's on its way! See the blinky light?"
"Ummm... That's a rickshaw!"

to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
He's dead, Jim!

Rabiul was accused in several cases, including murder and mugging charges.
"Aye, sir. He wuz a bad un!"
Three police personnel also sustained minor injuries during the firing.
"Whoa! Rafiqul! That's gotta hurt!"
"You betcha it does. Loan me your nail clipper!"

A pistol and two bullets were recovered from the scene.
"No, wait a minute! Three bullets! I found another one!"
"That's not a bullet! It's a... a... musket ball?"
"A musket ball's a bullet."
"No, it ain't."

Vigilantes Take Control Of 8 Communities In Southern Mexico
[LatinAmericanHeraldTribune] Hundreds of gunnies belonging to community self-defense groups occupied eight small towns near Chilpancingo, capital of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, and detained a dozen suspected extortionists, a spokesperson for the vigilantes said.

The action was taken due to the "federal government's poor response" in ensuring the security of the state's inhabitants, Gonzalo Torres, a coordinator of the Citizen Safety and Justice System, or SSyJC, organization, said Friday.

The vigilantes said they seized control of the towns, all part of the municipality of Chilpancingo, because their residents are the victims of criminal gangs that extort and kidnap business owners.

The SSyJC was founded in Jan. 4, 2013, in the town of Ayutla de los Libres to combat the criminal outfits and has since extended its reach to communities located near the cities of Acapulco and Chilpancingo.

"Our presence here is because citizens in this area asked us to come, because they're tired of there being extortions, payment of protection money and kidnappings every day," Torres said.

Roughly 500 inhabitants of the town of Ocotito gathered Friday in the main square to express their support for the community self-defense groups in their struggle against the Los Rojos gang, the former armed wing of the now-defunct Beltran Leyva cartel.

The vigilantes are patrolling the streets and also maintaining checkpoints on the federal highway linking Chilpancingo and Acapulco.

Chilpancingo Mayor Mario Moreno acknowledged that the community self-defense groups already control the towns of Cajeles, Buena Vista, El Rincon, Mohoneras, Dos Caminos, Carrizal, La Haciendita and Ocotito, local media reported.

But he said his government was in talks with their leaders and hoped an agreement could be reached this weekend.

Community self-defense groups and community police forces have also been formed in more than a dozen of the 113 municipalities in the neighboring state of Michoacan.

A federal offensive in that western state began Jan. 13 with an attempt to forcibly disarm militias that arose to defend communities from the Caballeros Templarios (Knights Templar) cartel, but after four people died in a confrontation with soldiers, the Mexican government changed tack in favor of cooperation with the vigilantes.

Mistrust persists, however, and the militias, who get financial backing from business owners tired of paying protection money to the Templarios, say they will hand over their weapons and stand down only after the entire cartel leadership is behind bars.

Shin Bet: Hamas Cell Uncovered In East Jerusalem; 16 Detained
[Ynet] Hamas operates in Jerusalem under Islamic Movement disguise. Shin Bet detains 16 East Jerusalemites suspected of operating, funding security offenses in city, Temple Mount

The Shin Bet informed Tuesday that it has uncovered a Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-affiliated organization that operated recently in the area of Jerusalem.

According to the report, 16 of the organization's members were jugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on suspicion of leading and funding security offenses in Jerusalem's neighborhoods and the Temple Mount, and worked towards reinforcing Hamas' grip on the community in East Jerusalem. The arrests were carried out with cooperation of the Jerusalem District Police and Northern District Police.

Several activists of the northern wing of the Islamic Movement were also arrested for cooperating with Hamas in the Temple Mount.

According to the Shin Bet, Hamas' activity was masked behind an alleged educational project run by the Islamic Movement. In fact, the defense establishment claims, the project was aimed at increasing tensions in Jerusalem and creating public disturbances, especially around the times of Jewish holidays.

The Shin Bet argues that the project in question was partially operated and funded by Gazoo's Hamas, and an online video features Hamas Prime Minister in Gazoo Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
saying he promotes the funding of this project.

Among those arrested is Ibrahim Brakha, 39, from Sur Baher, who already served time in jail for operating under Hamas. According to the Shin Bet, he is a senior Hamas activist in East Jerusalem. Another detainee is Khalil Atia Mahamad Azawi, 41, from Abu Tor, who also served time in prison for a Hamas-related operation.

In addition, Majed Rajab Mahamad Ashur Juaba, 33, resident of the Old City, was also arrested, after he was released from prison less than a year and a half ago for being a member of a terrorist organization.

In recent months, he was making money transfers from the Gazoo Strip to Hamas activists in Jerusalem. His brother was also arrested by the Shin Bet.

Several months prior to the multiple arrests, last November, two offices pertaining to institutions affiliated with the Islamic Movement in Jerusalem were shut down.

Haredi Jailed For Offering To Spy For Iran
[Ynet] Haredi man affiliated with radical anti-Zionist sect sentenced to 4.5 years in jail after admitted to flying to Iranian embassy in Berlin, and offering to work as spy for the Iranian regime; he also offered to kill a Zionist

An anti-Zionist haredi man was sentenced to four and a half years in jail for offering to spy for Iran against Israel.

The man, Itzhak Bergel, who belongs to the radical Neturei Karta sect, admitted to making the offer to the Iranian regime as part of a plea bargain.

In return he was convicted Tuesday of contact with a foreign agent and attempting to aid the enemy in its war against Israel by a Jerusalem Magistrate Court.

Last August it was reported that that the 46-year-old man was locked away
Please don't kill me!
a month prior and was interrogated by the Shin Bet after a long investigation led to his arrest and the seizure of incriminating paperwork.

Lawyer Yair Nehorai who represents Bergel said "in the current circumstances, we took into account the pros and the cons and decided that this is the best plea bargain we could get."

According to the indictment, the man decided to contact the Iranian régime and offer his services and pass intelligence about information about Israel. He first attempted to find out which countries have an Iranian embassy and upon learning that there was a mission in Berlin, he bought a plane ticket to Germany.

In January 16, 2011, the defendant boarded a flight to Berlin and a day later visited at the Iranian embassy around 1 pm, but it was closed. He went again the following day, in full ultra-Orthodox regalia, and asked the desk-clerk for a meeting.

At the clerk's request, he handed over his passport. He was then led into an embassy office where he met three unknown individuals including a person who introduced himself as "Haji Baba."

The defendant told the three he was an Israeli and member of the Neturei Karta sect explaining that the group does not recognize the State of Israel.

He further noted that he aims to replace the current government with one controlled by "goyim" (gentiles). He then offered the Iranians to gather information about Israel for them.

During the conversation, he asked the Iranians why aren't they able to protect their people from Israeli liquidation missions. He was rebuked of insulting Iran while asking for political asylum but replied he was not seeking asylum. He further noted that he is willing to murder a Zionist.

At the end of the meeting, the defendant was told that higher ranks needed to be consulted on the matter. "Haji Baba" gave him a note with an Iranian email account and instructed him to check it for a message from them. He was also given an embassy telephone number for future use.

The defendant returned to Israel four days later and checked the email account at an internet café in Jerusalem. He also used public payphones to phone the embassy in Berlin.

In one of the cases he asked to talk to Haji Baba but was told he was out of the office. The defendant intentionally avoided contacting the Iranians via his home computer and telephone.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
2 Men Assaulted in Jabal Mohsen, Grenade Hurled near al-Zahriyeh Church
[An Nahar] Two men were attacked on Tuesday after their car entered the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen, state-run National News Agency reported, a day after a Jabal Mohsen resident was stabbed and beaten up in al-Qobbeh.

"Gunmen assaulted the two citizens Mohammed Fatfat and Shadi al-Jaam as their car was passing through Jabal Mohsen," NNA said.

The army intervened and evacuated them from the neighborhood, the agency added.

The incident comes on the heels of an attack of a similar nature on Monday, when unknown attackers assaulted a Syrian resident of Jabal Mohsen in the nearby neighborhood of al-Qobbeh.

More than 20 attacks have targeted Jabal Mohsen residents in several areas of Tripoli in recent months.

Separately, Wahib Jerjes and Elie Foufani were lightly injured when a stun grenade was tossed near the St. George Church in the churches street in Tripoli's al-Zahriyeh, NNA said.

Security forces arrived on the scene and launched a probe into the incident, the agency added.

Sectarian tensions between Jabal Mohsen and the rival district of Bab al-Tabbaneh date back to Leb's 1975-1990 civil war but have been exacerbated by the conflict across the border in Syria, where Alawite Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
is battling a Sunni-led uprising.

The unrest worsened when twin bombings rocked two Sunni mosques in the city, leaving around 45 people dead and 500 others maimed. Several suspects from Jabal Mohsen have been accused of involvement in the bombings.

The two neighborhoods have been rocked by around 20 rounds of deadly sectarian fighting in recent years.

Al-Atrash Confesses to Prior Knowledge to Attacks Targeting Dahiyeh
[An Nahar] Sheikh Omar al-Atrash, who is allegedly linked to the recent attacks in Beirut's southern suburbs, had confessed to moving two explosive-rigged cars to Beirut and his prior knowledge to the suicide kabooms targeting Dahiyeh, a Hizbullah stronghold.

According to al-Akhbar newspaper published on Tuesday, al-Atrash, who was incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
by the Army last week, testified that he transported people and cars from the Bekaa border town of Arsal to Beirut and handed them over to culprits, however, he didn't know the details of their scheme.

Security sources told the newspaper that al-Atrash confessed to his prior knowledge to attempts to expand the scope of bombings in Dahiyeh and other areas.

"Al-Atrash transported Lebanese, Syrian and Paleostinian nationals" linked to the bombings plot, the sources said.

The newspaper described the Sheikh's confessions as "notoriously dangerous."

Al-Atrash said that he had moved "a Grand Cherokee and BMW X5 cars to Beirut."

He said that the two cars were relocated in a warehouse on the outskirts of Beirut's southern suburbs, which is owned by a man nicknamed as Abou Suleiman.

The Sheikh, who hails from the Bekaa Valley, admitted that Paleostinian Ibrahim Abou Maaileq, known as Abou Jaafar, who was killed last week in armed festivities with the army in Chtaura, was responsible for setting a scheme to target Dahiyeh.

According to the daily, Abou Jaafar planned with another Lebanese man to send two jacket wallahs to open fire on citizens using machine guns before blowing themselves up. After people gather around to save the injured an explosive-rigged car would then explode in the area.

The report added that al-Atrash presented "information of high importance" regarding the transportation of car bombs from Syrian territories to Leb via Arsal, adding that a Paleostinian refugee camp has been used several times as a pit stop for suicide bombers and the booby-trapped cars.

Al-Nusra Front in Leb -- believed to be the local franchise of Syria's Al-Nusra Front, a jihadist rebel movement -- had recently warned that attacks on Hizbullah-controlled areas will continue until Leb releases Sunni Islamist prisoners and the party withdraws from Syria.

Al-Nusra Front in Leb warned Sunnis against "approaching or residing in or near (Hizbullah's) bases, and (to) avoid gathering around its meeting points."

The war in Syria has inflamed sectarian tensions in Leb, with Hizbullah backing Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
