I'm glad I don't live in a Wild West, Tea party town like that. If only someone was brave enough to pass some gun control laws for those poor children, then all this would stop.
#3
Sensible gun control would update the three strikes rule to say if you use a gun to commit a felony you get locked away without parole (or worse). If you use a gun in self-defense or for sport or whatever you are left alone and bid good day by the government.
#5
You are under the mistaken assumption that they actually want to reduce gun crime/violence.
That is not necessarily the case. In fact I believe it's quite the opposite. Who knows what sorts of 'Fast-&-Furious' like programs the DOJ is running within the Country.
[An Nahar] Police in the U.S. city of Milwaukee said a naked burglar tried to break into a veterinary clinic to steal drugs but got stuck in the air vents for almost 12 hours.
Police Lt. Mark Stanmeyer said employees of the Small Animal Hospital in Milwaukee came into work Monday morning and heard the muffled screams of someone calling for help. They discovered the 19-year-old stuck in a narrow shaft.
The teen had crawled into the vent Sunday about 9 p.m., meaning he spent about half a day in the vent.
Stanmeyer said the teen suffered multiple cuts and scrapes from screws.
Police Capt. Aaron Raap said the man had stripped naked on the roof before breaking into the vent, perhaps to prevent his clothes from snagging on screws.
Instead he snagged various protruding tender bits, and will now enjoy a series of activities that started with a tetanus shot and continued with antibiotics and said tender bits being cleaned by the police station's medical person wielding a handful of alcohol wipes. Personally, I think the lad has already paid for his crime in spades, and is likely to suffer PTSD for quite some time to come.
The man faces an attempted-burglary charge.

[An Nahar] Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that his friend, Italy's convicted former premier Silvio Berlusconi ...former Italian prime minister, known for his plain (for a European politician) speaking and his liking for hookers a third his age or less... would not have gone on trial for sex with a minor if he was gay.
"Berlusconi is on trial for living with women, but if he were a homosexual, nobody would dare touch him," Putin said during a discussion with international experts and journalists at the Valdai Club in the northwestern Novgorod region.
The remark was met by roars of laughter from the audience.
I really, really dislike being put in a position where I'd have to agree with Putin and share in the laugh...
Berlusconi, 76, is appealing a conviction for having sex with an underage prostitute nicknamed Ruby the Heart Stealer.

That's all very well, but the gentleman didn't exactly set Italy up to be a financial success either, despite his personal financial acumen. Italy has not done itself proud in the politicians its system has thrown up for voters to choose among, the past several decades, when Mr Berlusconi was the best option.
Libya's crude oil production has recovered to nearly 40 percent of its pre-war capacity with exports set to rise as major western fields ramped up output after protesters agreed to reopen them. The fields re-opened earlier this week after being closed since Aug. 27 when an armed group switched off pipeline valves connecting them to the ports.
Output has risen to 620,000 barrels per day (bpd), compared with its pre-war capacity of 1.6 million bpd, two state National Oil Corp (NOC) officials said on Wednesday. The restart of the El Sharara field will also liberate Brega oil for exports from the eastern Marsa al Brega port, as it will no longer be needed as a stop-gap for the Zawiya refinery. After the lifting of force majeure at the Mellitah ports, NOC was able to issue a oil sell tender for 1.2 million barrels of very light oil, not the usual Mellitah blend, but a fresh source of revenue.
Libyan Prime minister Ali Zeidan said on Tuesday that the worst disruption to its main industry was costing around $130 million a day in revenues.
[MAGHAREBIA] The son of slain Libyan dictator Moamer Qadaffy appeared in a Zintan court on Thursday (September 19th), AFP reported.
The court adjourned the trial of Seif al-Islam Qadaffy until December 12th to allow the attendance of other defendants in the case.
Qadaffy's son on Thursday had been due at a pre-trial hearing in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... on charges related to the 2011 uprising.

[Al Ahram] Police in Cameroon have arrested a rebel leader from neighbouring Central African Republic (CAR), Abdoulaye Miskine, suspecting that he might launch cross-border raids, a source in the security forces said Thursday.
"Miskine was arrested on 16 September while he was in a hotel room in Bertoua," in eastern Cameroon, across the border from CAR, the source told AFP, requesting not to be named.
General Miskine, the leader of the rebel Democratic Front of the Centrafrican People (FPDC), was taken to the capital Yaounde, "where he is currently in custody of a special police service," the source said.
"Investigators want to know if he is using Cameroon as a rear base to prepare a possible plan to destabilise" the CAR, the source added, saying that Miskine had spent several days in Bertoua and had also been in the southern port city of Douala.
Miskine and his men last December joined forces with the Seleka rebel alliance that fought its way to power in the Central African capital Bangui in March, ousting President Francois Bozize, who had ruled for 10 years.
But in April, Miskine cited "differences in points of view" with Seleka forces and broke ranks. Seleka troops then attacked the FPDC rebels and chased them into the northeast of CAR.
Miskine, who is a veteran of strife in the unstable country, said that he had been wounded in the clashes and lost his "right-hand man ... and many men." Military and civilian sources meanwhile accused Seleka forces of looting towns in their path.
Since Bozize fell 24 March, the new authorities in the deeply poor, landlocked nation have proved incapable of restoring order across large tracts of lawless territory, where bandits and renegade soldiers run riot.

[Dawn] A pilot believed to be working for Pakistain International Airlines (PIA) has been nabbed Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! at a British airport on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a plane, police said on Thursday.
Officers were called on Wednesday evening to the airport serving the northern English cities of Leeds and Bradford where they arrested a 54-year-old man from Pakistain, a statement from West Yorkshire Police said.
The exact circumstances of the arrest were not entirely clear, although the pilot was not thought to be flying at the time.
"At about 10pm last night police were called to Leeds Bradford International Airport where they arrested an airline pilot on suspicion of carrying out an activity ancillary to an aviation function while impaired by drink," police said.
"The 54-year-old man, from Pakistain, is currently in jug."
PIA has immediately grounded and suspended one of its pilots upon violation of rules, a PIA Spokesperson said.
In a statement issued, he said the pilot was the captain of PK-776 from Leeds-Bradford to Islamabad.
"Due to unavailability of any alternate, the captain of the flight had to make a night stop at Leeds. Later, the flight departed with a delay of 15 hours."
He said the pilot is still in jug of British Police for further investigation.
Referring to another incident of indecent behavior by three flight stewards in Manchester, the spokesperson said that the management has also suspended them.
They were taken into custody by Manchester Police on complaint made by a British lady. The investigation is still in process.
The spokesperson said that PIA is not responsible for violation of rules or code of conduct committed by its employees.
"PIA will never provide legal or any kind of assistance nor support for individual's act of violation.

Just in time for the Man City / Man Utd. derby!
If h was going to fly while drunk, he should have done it on the return flight, where a crash 'cloud' might have a 'silver lining' effect on immigration.
[An Nahar] Russian President Vladimir Putin ...Second and fourth President of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead... said Thursday that he could run for a fourth presidential term in 2018. If he does and wins, that would keep him in power for about a quarter century and make him the nation's longest-serving leader since Josef Stalin.
Putin, who served two consecutive four-year terms starting in 2000, became prime minister in 2008 to observe a constitutional limit of two consecutive terms. He remained in charge as prime minister, with his loyal associate, Dmitry Medvedev, serving as a placeholder.
Medvedev initiated a law that extended the presidential term to six years, and Putin won a third term in 2012 despite major public protests in Moscow against his rule.
Putin addressed his future plans when challenged by former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon during an international conference. Fillon said he would not reveal whether he planned to run for president unless Putin answered the same question.
"And if I answer, will you?" Putin responded.
"We'll see," Fillon said.
"I don't exclude that," Putin said. To which Fillon added: "Me either."

D *** NG IT, Vlad, I was expecting this News last week!
Four bikies, thought to be from the new gang Soldiers of Islam, have been arrested after a wild brawl at the Mermaid Tavern this afternoon. Police confirmed four men are in custody after they were called to the tavern following reports three men were assaulting each other.
Soldiers of Islam, also known as Sons of Islam, is thought to be an offshoot of outlaw bikie gang the Bandidos, which has a clubhouse at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. Sources report the gang, comprising young Muslim men who sport "SOI'' tattoos, has sprung up on the Glitter Strip in recent years.
While still small in membership, the gang is coming under increasing attention from police looking into bikie links to crimes involving drugs, guns and violence.
Ay-Pee and the posting is acting very weird. Screens fade away, some parts don't show, and I can't see the highlight key to snark away! Now I get a black background! Anyway, here's a snippet:
The administration went back to the drawing board after receiving more than 2 million comments on its first proposal, which was legally vulnerable because it required coal and natural gas to meet the same limit. Coal and natural gas now have separate standards, but the latest proposal will almost certainly be litigated once it becomes final, which the law requires the EPA to do in a year.

Looks like my problems were Internet Explorer related. It hung up a few minutes ago, and now the posting looks OK.
To meet the standard, new coal-fired power plants would need to install expensive technology to capture carbon dioxide and bury it underground. No coal-fired power plant has done that yet, in large part because of the cost. And those plants that the EPA points to as potential models, such as a coal plant being built in Kemper County, Miss., by Southern Co., have received hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants and tax credits.
Your tax dollars at work.

The whole idea that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a pollutant is proof that the EPA has nothing to do with the Environment or Ecology and everything to do with government control.
CO2 is required for plants to live which are required for humans to live. It is as important to the environment as oxygen.
[MYFOXNY] Wells Fargo & Co. says it plans to lay off an additional 1,800 employees from its mortgage department. The plans come after the bank cut about 2,300 jobs from the same unit in August.
Wells Fargo spokesman Alfredo Padillo said that the bank is cutting jobs in the mortgage department because fewer people than it expected are refinancing their mortgages. The jobs are in locations across the country.
The affected employees were given 60 days' notice. The bank says that is looking for other positions for those people within the company.

Besides the rate increases, the new FHA mortgage insurance cost is a killer.

I was upside down and suddenly allowed to refinance. I thought maybe one good thing had come out of DC.
It started with the most ridiculous 'background check' ever. Why did we have all these addresses in Dallas when we lived in Virginia? Answers 9in writing): Daughter's apartment. Daughter's and husband's apartment. Then their house. Then the son's apartment, his house, and so on. Then the other son's several apartments at college. Moronic.
Then the terms were to pay about 2.5 points up front, but! That could be added into the upside-down mortgage, making us more upside down. [sniff, sniff] Plus we started over with a new 30-year note, so all the money was interest again. [sniff...yeah, it does smell bad!]
We decided the whole purpose was to get some more short-term cash into the banks and push the problem off a few years. Sound familiar? Like anything else out of DC?
When, after six months of stalling, they wanted to do an appraisal, we threw in the towel. Colossal waste of time. But we still get mail and e-mail offers to refinance.
And you wonder why I am cynical?

That's what happens when the NSA passes on to the IRS who passes it on to the Treasury who pass it on to the bank that you post on Rantburg. Now a couple years back that would have sounded 'tin foil hat'ish. Today, who knows? (other then the NSA/IRS/Treasury)

May be that most people who could afford to, already have refinanced.
We've had Wells Fargo for our mortgage and refinanced last year or so. But then we weren't upside down either and the principal was for about 50% of the value (had the mortgage for some time). They even kicked in the closing cost (Said it was better than having us go somewhere else).
(OTOH perhaps the NSA/IRS/Treasury/Banks haven't figured out who CrazyFool is yet....)
A court in Germany has ruled that a Muslim girl may not be excused from mixed-sex swimming lessons on the grounds of religious belief.
The 13-year-old girl from Frankfurt had argued that the sight of bare-chested male students breached her religious modesty. She also claimed that accepting the school's offer that she herself could wear a full-body "burkini" swimsuit in the pool would expose her to discrimination among her peers.
But on Wednesday, Germany's Federal Administrative Court ruled that it was reasonable to compromise between the girl's religious freedom and the state's duty to educate its citizens.
[An Nahar] A man was beheaded and his girlfriend beaten to death in an "honor killing" in northern India after they eloped, police said Thursday.
The woman's mother, father and uncle were arrested after the gruesome murders carried out in a village in the state of Haryana on Wednesday, police said.
The couple were tracked down and brought back to their village in Rohtak district after they fled to the capital New Delhi, local police chief Anil Kumar said.
The woman, 20, was allegedly beaten to death and then relatives, angry about their decision to leave, turned on her 22-year-old boyfriend, attacking him with sticks, Inspector-General Kumar told AFP.
"While murdering the boy they also beheaded him," Kumar said.
The family had tried to burn the woman's body but were stopped by police, Kumar told AFP by telephone.
The pair had been in a relationship for three years. The woman was studying to be an art teacher while her boyfriend was also a student at a local college, Kumar said.
"We have arrested her father, mother and uncle and we are looking for her brother, a friend and driver of the car in which the couple were brought back to her home in Gharnavati village," the police chief said.
"Both belonged to the same village and the same caste.
"It is an honor killing but the murder was not approved by society."

Actually, more of the westside just off the beautiful upscale Washington park area, but literally "on the other side of the tracks" just three(3) miles or so from Obama's residence in the Washington/Hyde park area as you can see from the reference map.

My office complex is across the street from the east side of Washington Park. The combat zone is the west side of the park into Englewood and extending down to about 87th street or so, wrapping east into Woodlawn and Roselawn.
Drive through sometime. It's very discouraging. Yet even there you'll find decent people; they've been beaten down and cowed by the thugs, gangbangers and politicians (but I repeat myself). So much potential, human and capital, and it's all gone to waste.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
