Navy Yard Shooter Heard Voices
Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis called police to come to the Rhode Island hotel where he was staying six weeks ago because he said he was hearing voices speaking to him "through the wall, flooring and ceiling."
I, too, have heard voices, but I didn't think they were talking to me.
Alexis told police he had moved into three different hotels on the night of August 7th because he was trying to escape from the microwave vibrations, added that two black men and a black woman were following him and keeping "him awake by talking to him and sending vibrations to his body" through a microwave.

Alexis told police that he had no history of mental illness, so police simply said to stay away from the people following him.
If you're not crazy, then don't bother us with silly calls anymore.

#2  We could go back in institutionalizing these guys, but some federal judge would rule that overcrowding was unconstitutional and would issue a fiat that they must be released - just like criminals in California who are a recorded threat to society.

We used to have ways to deal with such judicial stupidity. Once we had a legislature which, you know, DID things - besides soak up their bennies and line their pockets.

Fed Gun Laws Didn't Stop Navy Yard Shooter
Ay-Pee. Radio said he tried to buy an AR-15, but did not have a Virginia Drivers License, so he bought a shotgun, and passed the background check.
But like other recently accused mass shooters, Alexis was never declared mentally ill by a judge or committed to a hospital. The Virginia Tech shooter, Seung Hi Cho, was declared mentally ill by a judge, but nobody ever reported it to federal authorities to get him included in the database of banned purchasers.

Obama said Tuesday he was concerned that an American ritual could emerge where every few months, the nation suffers a horrific mass shooting, then fails to take action to stop the next one from occurring. "I've taken steps that are within my control," Obama said. "The next phase now is for Congress to go ahead and move."
The radio had a guy on this morning echoing Dr. White's perspective (yesterday, comment #19) that the shooter's brain was not working right and that he might have even thought he was saving lives.
Still, Reid said he hopes to get another gun control vote this year. "I don't want any more bad things to happen, you know. Something's going to have to get the attention of these characters who don't want any controls."
Dinky Harry. I may be a character, but you are a moron. But I also give you DiFi -
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Caliphornia, a leading advocate for tougher gun control in the Senate, said in a statement that the shooting "is one more event to add to the litany of massacres.

"Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country. We must do more to stop this endless loss of life," she said.
Not to mention protect your phony-baloney job and gravy train, where you can direct more business to your husband's company.

#3  Fed Gun Laws Didn't Stop Navy Yard Shooter

Of course not, what stops shooters is a GUN, in the hands of someone willing to stop them, Of course you won't hear this, It's the gun at fault, not the shooter,
Posted by: Redneck Jim || 09/18/2013 10:02 Comments || Top||

#4  Of course they didn't, they were never meant too.

Gun laws will NEVER work to stop this kind of thing until these people get to their desired end state of confiscating ALL firearms. That would seriously dent the ability of the nut-jobs to get their hands on a gun.

HOWEVER, the "police" would still have full military capability to defend the elite as they take full tyrannical control which they cannot attain while the citizens are armed. But that's the whole point of the 2nd isn't it?

#5  Drudge today has links to an article that points out how numerous MSM outlets continue to yammer on about a fictitious AR-15 but won't report the possible involvement of psych meds. According to the article the VA had almost certainly prescribed meds that have troubling histories of involvement in these types of shootings. It doesn't ask if he would have shot whether he took the meds or not because he was crazy. Even so, the whole meds angle certainly wouldn't fit the narrative being pushed by Reid and DiFi.

#8  This incident should have led to some action, but didn't, from WaPo:
Several security-risk experts said there was a key moment when the system should have flagged Alexis: on Aug. 7, when police in Newport, R.I., alerted the Newport Naval Air Station that he was found hallucinating and in distress in a hotel room. The police said that Navy officials told them they would follow up, but that nothing indicates they did. Experts said the report should have led the Navy to enter Alexis’s name into the military’s shared database of contractors and employees with security clearances. “You have to applaud the Newport police for following up and alerting the Navy base,” Sowell said. “They could have just put it into the file in their records, but they went the extra mile. That is certainly information that should have made its way into the right hands in the Navy.” On Wednesday, Hagel said the military will look at how that report should have been handled.

When the local police are concerned enough to notify the DOD directly, you'd think someone would have done something, but no.

Washington navy yard gunman 'obsessed with violent video games'
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] The Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis played violent video games including Call of Duty for up to 16 hours at a time and friends believe it could have pushed him towards becoming a mass murderer.
Nah. Couldn't be. They're just blasting zombies.

Aren't they?

From TFA:
The darker side to Alexis's character saw him playing violent "zombie" video games in his room, sometimes from 12.30pm until 4.30am.
I do that every Friday! But not Call of Duty. Arma 2. And I usually start at 2230 hrs. And end at 0230. I guess that make me a piker.

#2  Considering the MASSIVE number of folks who play violent vido games compared to the number that actually commit any crime what-so-ever shows a very lopsided statistic so as to be meaningless.

Videogames did not make the guy a nut. They probably provided an outlet for his anger for awhile but clearly a video game is not prepared to be a health care professional.

Jaden Smith Finds Wisdom in Everybody Dropping Out of School
[ABCNEWS.GO] Jaden Smith might be best known as the star of the remake of "The Karate Kid" and for his lifelong role as the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, but the 15-year-old is also starring in his own online controversy after sounding off against America's education system, calling school a brainwashing tool.
Can't argue with that statement.
Jaden tweeted to his more than 4.5 million followers Sept. 12, "School Is The Tool To Brainwash The Youth" and "If Newborn Babies Could Speak They Would Be The Most Intelligent Beings On Planet Earth."
Ummm... No, they wouldn't. They'd still be ignorant. Even more ignorant than your average 15-year-old.
Jaden, 15, is considered Hollywood royalty, being a friend of Justin Bieber and dating a sister of the Kardashians, Kylie Jenner, but some people say he is setting a bad example with his comments.
Someone would actually pay attention to the ramblings of a 15-year-old blockhead?
"He has such a huge group of fans that really look up to him," Us Weekly reporter Jennifer Peros told ABC News. "So this isn't really the example you should really be setting."
"And who do you look up to, little boy?"
"Jaden Smith."
"I fear for the Republic."

Jaden and his sister, Willow, 12, are both home schooled.
So they know lots more than you and I do.
Jaden had attended the New Village Leadership Academy, a private school his parents founded in California five years ago, until it closed its doors in June because of lack of funding.
They started it, then let it collapse?
The academy used "study-tech," a teaching method created by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, something to which Will Smith alluded on "Live with Regis and Kelly" in 2007.
Golly. It was on Live with Regis and Kathy Lee Kelly? It must be really neat.
There are "powerful educational concepts that we believe in," Smith said on the show.
They were developed by the founder of Scientology, after all.
But instead of revolutionizing that educational system, the younger Smith seems to be suggesting his Twitter followers abandon it. "If Everybody In The World Dropped Out Of School We Would Have A Much More Intelligent Society," Jaden tweeted on Sept. 13.
Being a fifteen-year-old dork, he confuses education and intelligence.
But his philosophical musings have been met with skepticism.
Not everybody believes that ignorance is bliss? How strange.
"This is why we don't let celebrity children make decisions on the education system," one person tweeted. Another even resents one of Smith's comments with the heading, "Stupidest tweet ever."
Actually, both of those statements can be taken as truisms.
The teen actor explained his approach to life this summer on "Good Morning America," saying, "I really try to do me and really what I want to do and please myself instead of trying to please other people."
So he's not only a dork, but a self-centered dork.
In his latest tweet, Jaden advises his followers: "Everybody Get Off Your Phones And Go Do What You Actually Wanna Do."
What if what you actually wanna do is to beat the snot out of some dorky actor's kid?
Jaden was rumored not too long ago to be seeking emancipation from his A-list parents, but his dad recently joked that off as being untrue.
"If he was emancipated, he'd have to get a job to support himself, and he's not qualified for McDonald's."

NFLers line up to star in ads for men's butt wipe
[NYPOST] This has got to be one of the oddest promotions to involve NFL players -- no ifs, ands or, er, butts.
Starts out well, doesn't it?
Four NFL linemen have signed to help a small Venice, Calif., company crack a new market -- moistened toilet paper -- targeted at men.
Kinda like relabeled Wet Wipes.
Mostly like a piece of paper towel and tap water.
Scented tap water, my friend. Likely from Gary, Indiana...
The sector, just 3 percent of the $8.7 billion toilet paper category, is usually aimed at infants and toddlers but the four burly centers are hoping to change that with a product cheekily called "One Wipe Charlies."
Do I get my money back if it takes more than one?
I'd hate to be the clerk who deals with returns. Worse, I'd hate to be the person who didn't get the One Wipe Charlies returns job!
The players -- the Dallas Cowboys' Travis Frederick , the Minnesota Vikings' John Sullivan, the Buffalo Bills' Eric Wood, and the San Diego Chargers' Nick Hardwick -- will be part of a marketing blitz, entitled "Clean Snap," to kick off in two weeks.
That campaign's gonna kick... ummm... butt.
It's the brainchild of Mike Dubin, CEO of Dollar Shave, who told The Post: "Most of the centers we approached were game to try this. They are guys not a lot of people are reaching out to. "
Who hasn't occasionally used a wet wipe when conditions have called for them?
"We wanted to make something just for men; it's aspirational: a way to get it done in one," Dubin said.
That's right, ladies. You cannot wipe your butt with this stuff. It won't work on dumb old girls.
A survey conducted by Dollar Shave found that 89 percent of wipe users were very satisfied with the cleanliness of their butt after using a wipe -- versus only 58 percent for traditional TP.
A wipe / That's real / No rash to heal / A soothing / Velvet after-feel / Butt Wipe
How far we've come: From Burma Shave to One Wipe Charlies.
"I've been using butt wet wipes for years," said Dubin, "Its an enjoyable experience."

If Obama had a fan, he'd look like Aaron Alexis
Here's even more bad news for all our liberal friends who are making another futile effort to exploit the actions of an insane murderer to advance their political goals: The guy who murdered at least 12 people at the DC Navy Yard was on their team.

Patrick Howley reports:

A friend of Navy Yard shooting suspect Aaron Alexis said on CNN Tuesday that the alleged gunman was "more of a liberal type" who was happier with the Obama administration than with the Bush administration.

"Aaron wasn't conservative like I am. He was more of a liberal type; he wasn't happy with the former administration. He was more happy with this administration -- as far as presidential administrations," Alexis' friend Michael Ritrovato said on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper..."

Police reportedly searched a Toyota Prius, which they believe to be Alexis' rental car.

First we learned that Alexis didn't use an evil AR-15 to kill all those people. Instead, he used a nice, friendly, Biden-approved shotgun:

Now we learn that Alexis was a Prius-driving, African-American liberal who liked Obama. Facts aren't much fun, eh, libs?

IRS list reveals concerns over Tea Party 'propaganda'
Newly uncovered IRS documents show the agency flagged political groups based on the content of their literature, raising concerns specifically about "anti-Obama rhetoric," inflammatory language and "emotional" statements made by non-profits seeking tax-exempt status.

The internal 2011 documents, obtained by USA TODAY, list 162 groups by name, with comments by Internal Revenue Service lawyers in Washington raising issues about their political, lobbying and advocacy activities. In 21 cases, those activities were characterized as "propaganda."

The list provides the most specific public accounting to date of which groups were targeted for extra scrutiny and why. The IRS has not publicly identified the groups, repeatedly citing a provision of the tax code prohibiting it from releasing tax return information.

More than 80% of the organizations on the 2011 "political advocacy case" list were conservative, but the effort to police political activity also ensnared at least 11 liberal groups as of November 2011, including Progressives United, Progress Texas and Delawareans for Social and Economic Justice.

Frenchman Dies after Jailhouse Beating
[An Nahar] A French citizen died after being attacked by cellmates in a Cairo cop shoppe, where he tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
for breaking a night-time curfew, security officials said on Tuesday.

Police placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
the man in the upmarket Zamalek neighborhood of the capital for violating the nightly curfew in force since the launch of a deadly crackdown on Islamist supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi on August 14.

The man, described as a teacher, was put in a cell at the central Qasr al-Nil cop shoppe, where he was attacked by his cellmates and later died of his injuries, the officials added.

Six cellmates are being kept in jug as part of an investigation into "bodily harm resulting in death," a judicial source said.

A post-mortem found that the Frenchie died from "internal haemorrhaging" and a "skull fracture," the security officials said.

The victim did not have a valid visa at the time of his arrest, the security officials said. The French embassy said he was a long-term resident of Egypt.

The embassy added that it had asked for clarification from judicial authorities of the circumstances of the man's death and was still waiting for a reply.

Africa Subsaharan
Swazi King to Wed 14th Wife
[An Nahar] Swaziland's King Mswati III has chosen an 18-year-old beauty pageant contestant as his 14th wife, a palace front man said Tuesday, days before a much-criticized parliamentary vote.

"I can confirm that the king has introduced to the nation a new liphovela (royal fiancee)," said Ludzidzini palace governor Timothy Mtetwa.

Mswati, a 45-year-old who is sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, introduced Sindiswa Dlamini at a Reed Dance celebration over the weekend, Mtetwa told AFP.

She wore reed feathers on her head -- a sign of royalty.

The young woman graduated from Mbabane's St. Francis High School last year and is a finalist in the Miss Cultural Heritage beauty pageant. The winner will be announced on September 28.

The king has come under fire for his household's lavish lifestyle while the tiny mountain kingdom's 1.2 million people struggle to make a living.

Mswati reportedly has a personal fortune of around $200 million (152 euros) and the U.N. estimates that 70 percent of his 1.2 million subjects live below the poverty line.

He has steadfastly resisted reforms.

The new engagement was announced at a festival which also counted regional delegates who will observe parliamentary elections on Friday.

Critics have slammed the polls as a sham, partly because political parties are banned and candidates are hand-picked by traditional leaders.

The weekend's celebrations were a smaller repeat of last month's official annual Reed Dance, where young virgins from across the kingdom gather and dance for the king.

"It just happened that the international community was there to witness the event," said Mtetwa.

The wedding only takes place once the fiancee falls pregnant. Dlamini will then become Mswati's 14th wife.

The monarch's colorful private life is off-limits in local media, but has drawn a lot of international interest.

Three wives left the household in recent years. The latest, Queen LaGija, fled the palace in 2012 claiming years of physical and emotional abuse.

Another queen, LaDube, was reportedly abused after she was caught in bed with the justice minister, a close friend of the king.

Mswati had kidnapped and married the queen when she was 16 in 2005.

Senior official in Dagestan suspected in kidnapping
A criminal case has been opened against a top government official in the Russian republic of Dagestan on suspicion of kidnapping, prosecutors said Tuesday.

In July, a group of unidentified people kidnapped the son of a wealthy businessman demanding $1.4 million for his release, local officials said, without giving the boy’s age or name. The kidnappers released the boy more than a month later, on September 12, after receiving ransom money, the regional prosecutor’s office said, adding that a criminal case was opened the very next day.

First Deputy Industry and Energy Minister Ruslan Gadzhibekov and another two men have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the crime.

#6  This bit surprised me more, from WaPo:
In 1989, the median American household made $51,681 in current dollars (the 2012 number, again, was $51,017). That means that 24 years ago, a middle class American family was making more than the a middle class family was making one year ago.

This isn't a lost decade for economic gains for Americans. It is a lost generation.

Wal-Mart compared to Hitler at DC living wage rally
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory compared Wal-Mart to the leader of National Socialist Nazi Germany at a "living wage" rally in front of the D.C. City Council on Tuesday.
They keep describing him as a "comedian." The last time he said something funny was 1964. Maybe it was a year or two earlier.
"When you look at Hitler and those thugs, you can put Wal-Mart right next to them," Gregory said in his speech to the 150 or so people at the event. The crowd was gathered to protest D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray's veto of a bill that would have singled out the retail giant and forced it pay its employees $12.50 an hour.

Gregory was a surprise speaker at the event and an apparent last-minute addition. He followed his remarks with a rambling diatribe about the Navy Yard shootings Monday and the death of Trayvon Martin, among other subjects.

"They talk about America the beautiful! When did America get beautiful? Ask the Indians!" Gregory said.

His remarks quieted the previously cheering crowd. Perhaps sensing the protesters' restlessness, he returned the subject to minimum wage laws before handing the microphone back to event organizers.

#1  How OLD is Dick Gregory? If he was in his 30s in 1964....that would make him ....possibly a candidate for Alzhiemers and senility...by now.?

Living wage at entry level high school student work? Want to make a career of "ENTRY" level work?...part time...aisle six..? You can spend your life helping fat women with hair in curlers and a cigarette find the Spandex next to pet supplies. And did I mention the ass cracks...there are few of those in aisle four.

OR you could enlist and live in Base housing. That would make you one of America's finest. Enlisted with a family....try that.

#2  Ask the Indians!

You mean the ones at the end of a sharp Aztec knife about to make an (in)voluntary organ donation? There was a reason most of Cortez's siege army was composed of non-Aztec indigenous natives.

#3  So instead of having jobs at the current DC minimum wage, people will have no jobs. Walmart has already said that they will cut back on plans to build in the district if the minimum wage is raised to $12.50.

Another problem with the law is that stores that have unions, the unions can actually negotiate for a wage that is less than the living wage. This is designed to help the unionized grocery chains compete with Walmart.

#5  That would be Godwin's Law.

Also, I thought bills of attainder were illegal? Good on Mayor Gray to veto this bill, although this article does not mention that issue.

Perhaps, but shooting the perp serves as an admonishment not to do it again.

Some US jurisdictions have felony murder - you commit a felony, someone dies, you're guilty of murder. By my tenuous grasp of legal principles, the robber is guilty of his own death.

Gunman kills 4 in Austria as standoff continues
[USATODAY] A gunman in Austria killed four people, including three coppers, and was firing sporadically Tuesday at police after barricading himself in a farm building, police officials said.

SWAT teams blocked off the area around the farm in Melk, a central town in Lower Austria province some 70 kilometers (40 miles) west of Vienna. The standoff, which began early Tuesday, continued into the evening.

Interior Ministry front man Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said two coppers and the driver of an emergency rescue vehicle were shot and killed overnight in the nearby town of Annaberg.

Another officer who had been missing was found Tuesday rubbed out in his patrol car, he said. Regional police front man Roland Scherscher said he was apparently killed after the suspect carjacked the police vehicle and took him hostage after the suspect's own car had stalled in an escape attempt.

Police used armored vehicles to recover his body from the squad car that was parked near the gunman's hideout, Scherscher told news hounds.

A fourth policeman was maimed, Grundboeck said.

State broadcaster ORF reported that the suspect was a 55-year-old poacher but police refused to identify the suspect in keeping with Austrian law.

Villagers bar girls from going to 'co-ed' schools
[Dawn] Just when the Punjab government launched its enrolment campaign in schools, parents in four major villages of the district have stopped their daughters from going to schools against the government's decision of merging primary schools of boys and girls.

Girl students of classes 4 and 5 have been forbidden by their parents from attending schools following a unanimous decision by the village council (panchayat) to resist co-education even at the primary level.

In Union Council Machiwal's Chokar Khurd village, the government had merged boys and girls primary schools. Students of nursery to class three in these schools had been merged into the girls primary school building, while boys and girls of classes 4 and 5 had been merged into the boys school.

Following the merger decision, a meeting of village elders was called where it was decided that parents would not send their daughters studying in classes 4 and 5 to a co-education school. The decision was announced in mosques of the village and all parents had been abiding by the decision for last two weeks.

A resident of the village whose daughter was a class 4 student told Dawn no girls were attending school and the matter had been reported to the district administration. He said an overwhelming majority of the villagers was religious and they did not accept co-education system in schools even at junior level.

He said concerns of the villagers had been conveyed to the officials concerned of the education department and until the decision by the government was revoked, parents would not send their daughters to school. He said the villagers were not against girls getting education but co-education was not acceptable to them.

The same issue had been reported to the district administration from villages in Tanda, Kakrali and Sara-e-Alamgir where parents were not sending their daughters studying in classes 4 and 5 to schools due to the merger.

Gujrat District Coordination Officer Asif Bilal Lodhi confirmed the reports and said he had already informed the competent authority of the province through a letter and was waiting for a response.

He said if the district administration came up with a local arrangement by resuming the previous system of separate schools for boys and girls it would be a violation of the government policy.

The DCO said the merger had also been done in the tribal belt of Punjab in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, so people should understand the government's constraints that led to such a decision.

When asked if barring girls could have a negative impact on the government's ongoing drive to enrol children into schools, the DCO said the campaign had so far been successful and according to set targets in the district.
