Tally in Illinois grant-fraud probe so far: 13 charged, $16M embezzled
Read the entire article. It will take your breath away.
[SUNTIMES] The U.S. attorney's office in Springfield has been busy the past few years investigating a variety of fraud schemes involving state grants. Thirteen people have been charged so far, six who have pleaded guilty.

Two of them have ties to President Barack Obama
I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody...
. One is the daughter of his controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Another was chief of staff to Obama's longtime friend Eric E. Whitaker when Whitaker was Illinois' public health chief.

In all, prosecutors are alleging a total of $16 million in fraud involving state health or commerce department grants and contracts.

#1  Meh. Par for the course in Illinois. BTW, exactly the same type of things that Jesse Jr. and his wife were convicted of - chiseling to buy "stuff".

#3  They have a unfunded pension liability in excess of 90 Billion. This is peanuts. The whole lot the state leadership is engaged in multi-generational embezzlement. Prior to 2008, any corporation that did this kind of bookkeeping would see its officers sent off to the slammer.

#4  The only way to "reform" Illinois politics is to do a Chairman Mao on Chicago, move the state capitol to some other state, and disqualify all Illinosians from serving in any Illinois government post...

No 'corporate' model left in Illinois. Most have already moved out long ago. Cook County and the party of Urban America calls the tune, has for over half a century.

State probes Belmar's Sandy cleanup contract
[NORTHJERSEY] New Jersey's Attorney General's Office is investigating the awarding of a no-bid contract for Superstorm Sandy cleanup to a company with ties to the wife of Belmar's mayor.

A Republican member of the town council questions whether Democratic Mayor Michael Doherty violated state ethics laws. The state Community Affairs Department sent the complaint to the Statewide Sandy Fraud Working Group.

Doherty's wife, Maggie Moran, helped market Florida-based AshBritt Inc. to government officials after the storm. AshBritt hired a construction company that hired Moran to develop a marketing campaign.

AshBritt has been criticized for charging more than other companies.

Hildebeast heckled on Benghazi during award ceremony
Former Secretary of State Hildebeast fielded hecklers who hounded her on Benghazi at the tail end of an award acceptance speech she delivered at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.
Here's hoping the 'hounding' never stops.
Mrs. Hildebeast was accepting the 2013 Liberty Medal, an honor to recognize her career in public service and advocacy for women’s rights, CBS reported. She told the crowd of hundreds of the U.S. need to balance national security with human rights issues in Syria, and called for American politicians to cross party aisles and strike a chord of unity.
Progressive lauding the failures of the incompetent, the standard progressive fare.
“When we fail to make progress on the challenges facing our people at home, our standing in the world suffers,” she said, Breitbart.com reported.
Please examine thine own eye.
The mostly bland speech received an energy boost at the tail end, when a protester in the midst of the crowd starting chanting: “Benghanzi! Benghazi! Benghazi!”

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Mrs. Clinton did not mention the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, during her remarks. The attacks took place a year ago today — Sept. 11, 2012 — and left four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, dead.
Strange, how no one talks much about their gutter balls.
The administration, including then-Secretary of State Clinton, vowed to investigate and bring to justice the guilty parties, but the issue has since fallen to the wayside.
All of which is coming along nicely a little over a year later.

Grass Roots and Voters: Ready, Aim, FIRED!
In a historic recall election [Democrat] Colorado Senate President John Morse was booted from office, capping the end of a long and passionate fight over gun rights in Colorado. [Democrat] Colorado State Senator Angela Giron has also been recalled for her gun control votes. Giron and Morse are the first Senators in Colorado history to be recalled. Both Giron and Morse have officially conceded. Both areas formerly represented by Giron and Morse are deep blue (Obama carried them by nearly 20%).

The Morse recall results are a swift kick in their proverbial nuts. A reminder to legislators that getting elected office doesn't give you a free pass to do whatever your progressive paymasters demand of you. And, as the Morse recall demonstrates, it's ultimately the voters who control a politician's fate, despite the attentions and intentions of the fat walleted few.
For those of you unfamiliar, Colorado Senate went Dem by 1 vote last cycle. the Dems then went hard left and railroaded in bad gun control and other hard left agenda items -- mainly with Morse as President using his powers to stop opposing testimony, as well as using parliamentary tricks to severely restrict or eliminate any debate and (opposition) amendments. The "fat walleted" they are mainly talking about New York City Mayor Bloomberg, who poured millions into defending these two from recall via a bunch of front groups..

#2  Oh, one other thing: this means the 2 GOP challengers will take the recalled Senators seats immediately. I think this flips the Colorado senate from Dem to GOP control. No more lefty rubber stamp. I just hope the GOP uses the same strong arm tactics if necessary to undo the leftist agenda legislation passed in the same manner by the Dems, forcing a Hickenlooper veto, marking him as a clear lefty for the next election cycle.

#4  Big losers here are all the "we're gonna kill the NRA" types like Bloomberg. Bloomie can keep flipping his wallet open, but lots of the other outside money groups are smarting on the backside this morning...

#5  Dems still have a 1 seat advantage in the CO Senate. More work to do in 2014.

Morse was term limited. He was not eligible to run for reelection in 2014. Still, millions in outside money came into the state to try and help him. Bloomberg and Eli Broad both dug deep. Dems saw this as a national referendum on their gun grabbing ways -- and they were right.

#7  Pueblo was interesting since it was a democratic stronghold.

There's a lot of old blue collar Donks who are still old blue collar Donks and not the Progressive/neo-Marxists. They buy into old American fundamentals, but are still in the involuntary twitch mode when it comes to the voting booth. Reagan picked them up when the Urban Coastie types sent the nation and economy to the toilet in the late 70s and got their cognizant attention. Unfortunately, the RNC in the Beltway Blend Party ("we're just like them") have obstructed the ability of the Trunks as a whole to give them the opportunity again to cross the line at the voting booth.

#12  Like the Fat Lady says, it ain't over until it's over. Expect lawsuits to be filed today for all kinds of reasons, some of them possibly legitimate, but don't bet on it. Unfortunately, I live four blocks too far north to aid in this defenestration. Still, it's good to see.

I've given up on the Trunks. Time for the Tea Party to step out on its own and elect its own representatives, senators, governors, mayors, and every other elected official. I think it's time to have some pretty strict ground-rules on what it means to belong to the Tea Party, as far as elections are concerned -- a party platform that we all can agree on, but not something quite as insane as the Libertarians, or as of now, the trunks.

This has been a problem for Libertarians. Gun owners and dopers are strange, uneasy bedfellows.

Lurch and McCain's Syrian Expert Lied About Her Ph.D
A young researcher whose opinions on Syria were cited by both Senator McCain and Secretary of State John Kerry in congressional testimony last week has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for allegedly faking her academic credentials.

The institute issued a statement on its website concerning the researcher, Elizabeth O'Bagy:

The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O'Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University. ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O'Bagy's employment, effective immediately.

O'Bagy and her op-ed drew scrutiny last week when the Wall Street Journal failed to disclose O'Bagy's ties to an advocacy group backing the Syrian opposition and lobbying the US government to intervene in Syria. The Journal was forced to post a clarification that "in addition to her role at the Institute for the Study of War, Ms. O'Bagy is affiliated with the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a nonprofit operating as a 501(c)(3) pending IRS approval that subcontracts with the U.S. and British governments to provide aid to the Syrian opposition."

O'Bagy wrote in an email this Wednesday morning: "I was just fired from ISW and I'm no longer legally allowed to discuss my employment with them or affiliate it any way."

In an interview conducted before O'Bagy was fired from ISW, she rejected claims that her research was compromised by her affiliation to the advocacy group, the Syrian Emergency Task Force.

"My research is completely separate" she said. "Every journalist and every researcher goes into the conflict with their own background and their own ideas."

"Elizabeth is one of the best experts on Syria and her field work inside Syria along with her extensive networks on the ground makes her one of few people that can help inform policy makers on the reality on the ground," said Mouaz Moustafa, the executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force.
