Darth Vader Wannabe attacked Florida Highway trooper
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was attacked in Orlando early Thursday by a man wearing a Darth Vader mask. Michael Cole, 28, of Orlando, was arrested on felony charges of resisting arrest and battery on an officer.
Attempted a Jedi death-grip-and-lift?
According to the FHP, a construction worker informed the trooper around 2:45 a.m. of an intoxicated man wearing a Darth Vader mask who was walking in the middle of a road near Summerlin Avenue and Anderson Street.
At least he was smart enough not to get into his TIE fighter.
Flfying while intoxicated is an offense, after all.
The trooper approached the masked man, later identified as Cole, and repeatedly asked him to get out of the road. Cole instead cursed at the trooper and laid in the roadway, authorities said.
"This is not the drunk you're looking for."
The trooper then told Cole to get up, but he attemtped to punch and kick the trooper, who deployed his Taser, according to the FHP. Officials said Cole's thick jacket prevented the Taser from working, so the trooper used pepper spray to subdue him.
Pepper spray behind a Darth Vader mask? Ouch.
Local 6 News captured video showing the man screaming while being placed onto a stretcher.
"The Emperor will hear of this!"
Cole complained of shortness of breath and was taken to Florida Hospital South. He was later released and booked into the Orange County Jail. The trooper was not injured.

#1  "The Emperor will hear of this!" <-- LOL

What a rotten ending to a drunken episode. Get blind drunk, wake up and find out you punched a cop. Plus, it's on youtube and everyone is laughing at you.

SF Sgt. Released to Army on Bond, No Threat to Community
Follow-up.
The serviceman accused of having C-4 explosives in his carry-on bag on New Year's Eve at Midland International Airport was released on an unsecured bond Friday afternoon.

Two members of the U.S. Army will escort Sgt. Trey Scott Atwaterback to Fort Bragg, N.C. He then will be turned over to the third-party custody of his first-line supervisor and must adhere to the pre-trial service guidelines that U.S. Magistrate Judge David Counts outlined. Failure to do so could result in the forfeiture of a $50,000 bond, court officials said.

U.S. Assistant District Attorney John Klassen told the court that the government considers the airport incident serious, but based on evidence federal agents and Sherlocks have found, authorities don't believe that Atwater had any intention to cause harm and that he does not pose a danger to the community.

Atwater was charged in a federal criminal complaint with one count of attempting to board an aircraft while in possession of C-4 explosives.

According to U.S. Army records, Atwater is a special forces engineer sergeant first-class. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in November 1999 and began active duty service in 2006. He currently is assigned to the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School in Fort Bragg.

#1  I also have carried things I should not have by forgetting they were in my bags. It's easy to do when there are many moving parts.

Glad they are easy on the guy.

Argentine President 'Does Not have Cancer'
[An Nahar] Medical tests performed after Argentine President Cristina Kirchner had her thyroid removed in a three and a half hour operation found that she did not have cancer as initially believed, her front man said Saturday.

A final examination of the tissue removed "confirmed the presence of nodules in both lobes of the president's thyroid gland, but it ruled out the presence of cancer cells, thus modifying the initial diagnosis," Kirchner's front man Alfredo Scoccimarro said.

With the new diagnosis, Kirchner's medical team "considers that the surgical treatment undertaken is sufficient and the administration of radioactive iodine is no longer necessary," Scoccimarro said.

He said Kirchner, 58, had been released from hospital and was convalescing at her official residence. Kirchner, who has taken a medical leave until January 24, has been replaced in the interim by Vice President Amado Boudou, who recently assumed office.

Surgeons removed Kirchner's thyroid in a Wednesday operation after a biopsy performed at the end of December had resulted in a diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

#3  Now that her Thyroid has been removed she will have to take thyroid hormone T4 the rest of her life. There is more to it than just T4. Shame that this happened. Being hypo can be managed. We may see changes in her but if it is managed well perhaps not. This has not been a good start.

#4  Got any new theories, Hoogo?
Posted by: gorb || 01/08/2012 11:58 Comments || Top||

#5  A few things:

First of all, maybe CancerSat 1 in geosynchronous orbit over South America, is defective.

Second, radioactive iodine is used to kill off overactive thyroid tissue, not for chemotherapy.

Third, doing a Total Thyroidectomy without just removing a nodule for biopsy first seems a little hasty. These days, some cancer surgeries can take several hours, because they are done very gradually, taking just a bit of tissue off at once and biopsying it, to make sure they get all of it, but with a minimum of healthy tissue.
Posted by: Anonymoose || 01/08/2012 14:07 Comments || Top||

#6  I'd bet they did a biopsy only. They may have been incorrect about thyroid removal. "surgical treatment undertaken is sufficient". Anonymoose you may have the correct answer. It is hoped anyway. Radioactive iodine can turn a thyroid into a monster for a normal person taking a stress test.

Whaling protesters held
THE Gillard government is grappling with a diplomatic crisis over three Australian environmental activists being held on board a Japanese whaling fleet ship and facing possible criminal charges in Japan.

The protesters climbed aboard the security ship Shonan Maru No. 2 in darkness on Saturday night off the south coast of Western Australia.

Their brazen attack - exposing the inadequacy of a recent multimillion-dollar security upgrade on the whaling fleet - was aimed at trying to force the Japanese ship to halt its pursuit of the anti-whaling flagship Steve Irwin. The two vessels were still locked together and heading south last night, about 14 nautical miles off WA.

Attorney-General Nicola Roxon earlier conceded that the protesters may be taken to Japan, and said the government was now pursuing diplomatic options for their quick return from the ship. ''There are a range of different options that could occur for the transfer of these people back into Australian control,'' she said.

''We are now determined to do all we can to ensure the safety and the wellbeing of these three Australians and hopefully their prompt return to Australia.''

But Ms Roxon said the government had limited legal scope because the three had boarded the Japanese vessel in Australia's exclusive economic zone, not its territorial waters. She said that under international law it was now likely the lead jurisdiction would be Japan.

#4  From the link in comment 1: " return us to shore and leave these waters.." wsa the mesage from the protesters.
assuming the Japanese would have been in a 'remove them from the ship' mindset, a quick push over the side kinda gets them shorebound. Whether they make it all the way to the real shore, or the submerged part of it would be up to King Neptune.....

#5  The last time one of these idiots did this, was after they decided to sell that poorly designed high tech boat to the insurance company by using it to ram a Japanese whaler. Then its captain boarded the Japanese ship with the idea of "arresting" its captain.

After being taken to Japan, the Japanese foolishly gave him a suspended sentence, despite the aggravated circumstances of his offense and a sentence of three years.

However, Japanese criminal law is remarkably fickle, and hopefully their patience has run out for these twits. Three years each in a Japanese prison would do much to adjust their attitudes.

And thinking about Japanese prison reminds me of the hilariously ultraviolent and ridiculous movie, The Story of Ricky (highlights), clearly NSFW because of stupid levels of grotesque.

#6  The good news is that the Green/Left in its general ignorance of everything wants the Federal government to do something, which of course it can't unless the Japanese ship enters Australian waters.

Hopefully the Japanese will make an example of these idiots. A diet of whalemeat for the next 6 months would be a nice bonus.

Mullahs Upset By Christmas Trees 'On Every Corner' Of Tehran
Mohabat News -- Last week you could sense the Christmas season in several streets in Tehran. Many shops had placed a decorated Christmas tree where it could easily capture the attention of passersby. But it seems that this trend has upset the pro-government media!

According to Iranian Christian News Agency, Mohabat News, Serat-News website, which is backed by security authorities and plain-clothes forces (mostly members of the Basij militia), commented on this matter saying, "It's not proper for Tehran as the capital of a country with a Muslim majority to display a Christmas tree in every corner of the city".

It added, "One of the main symbols of Christianity, the majority religion of the world, is Christmas which is known by a colorfully decorated tree. What's the point of putting a Christmas tree in every well-known shopping center in a country where Islam is in the majority?"

This comment is made while the Islamic Republic of Iran, which calls Tehran "Om-al-ghera-e-Eslam" (meaning the main Islamic city), shows no tolerance towards any religion other that Shi'ite Islam. Serat-News website continued, "No doubt, Armenians who live in Iran feel loved, accepted and honored minorities among other communities in Iran. We share the same happiness and sadness. Therefore, Iranian Muslims according to their religious and national teachings cherish the beginning of the Christian year as a symbol for the great prophet of Christianity and his religion. But at the same time, some symbols are recognized as symbols for Christian communities all around the world and are considered offensive by others, whether majority or minority communities. The symbols for Christians are the Cross and the Christmas tree just as Kuffieh (a special fabric that Muslims use) is for Muslims.

In this regard, Serat News wrote, "considering the fact that the Islamic Republic has paid a high price to register the Norouz Celebrations in the World Heritage list of UNESCO, it's not proper for Tehran as the capital of a country with a Muslim majority to display Christmas trees in every corner of the city!"

"Symbolism and the spread of western culture through the promotion of celebrations and cultural symbols is something which has been followed by western politicians for years. For example, the Valentine celebration slowly spread throughout our country using the same method. This is now so deeply rooted in Iran that today, to be against this celebration would be considered an unforgivable sin!" wrote Serat.

At the end of the article, this pro-government website suggested that since Armenian minorities usually buy their needs within their own neighborhoods, there is no point for every boutique in Tehran to display Christmas trees in their windows. Additionally, unresponsiveness of cultural authorities of the country regarding prevalent cultural problems in shopping centers and the amazing tendency of some city managers towards the symbolism is also astounding.

#1  Shopkeepers, Jewish and Islamic, like the Christmas season because all their customers are in a good mood, with the Christmas spirit, and the shopkeepers are making money. Mullahs should pray; shopkeepers should keep their shops.
