Afghanistan
Afghan Targeted Killings Couldn't Go without Dire Revenge™: Govt
Afghan government would avenge the serial and assassinations of high-ranking Afghan officials and tribal elders, President Karzai's Spokesman said on Sunday.
Oh, noze! Not a Cycle of Violence™!
Speaking at a presser, Karzai's Spokesperson Waheed Omar said the liquidation of our national figures and tribal elders is part of a big plot by the enemies of Afghanistan.

Mr Omar said the Taliban and their affiliates want to disrupt the security transition process, but the process will continue despite all challenges.

"The Taliban and their supporters who are the cause of the presence of international forces in Afghanistan are making efforts to prevent Afghans from taking the security lead," Mr Omar said.

Just a couple of days after the liquidation of President Karzai's younger brother, Ahmad Wali Karzai, a close advisor of President Karzai, Jan Mohammad Khan and Mohammad Hashim Watanwal, who represented Oruzgan province in the parliament, were killed in a late-night attack on Sunday as part of the Taliban's assassination campaign.

Karzai's Spokesman described the murdered figures as the servants of the people of Afghanistan, saying the government is committed to talks with the Taliban, but soon killers of Afghan national figures will have to pay back.

"We are committed to fight against those who carry out this sort of cowardly actions, so that Dire Revenge™ of the death of elders and protectors of Afghanistan is taken," he said. "But again we want peace and stability in Afghanistan and we won't turn back on the way to peace in the country."

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, Bob finally got to dance with Sally...
officials in the ministry of interior affairs said despite growing security challenges security handover process will be implemented.

A spokesperson for Interior Affairs Ministry, Sediq Sediqi, said: "Police forces are prepared to undertake the responsibilities. And Afghan police forces are committed to prove they are capable enough to take this big responsibility."

Once again Karzai's Office called on the United States to step up efforts to neutralise and dismantle krazed killers' safe havens on the other side of Afghan border.

"If tomorrow the United States can eliminate krazed killer safe havens and prevent snuffies to infiltrate into Afghan territory, the hostilities will lose soul and Afghan people know at best how to deal with them without tanks and planes," Mr Omar said.

The remarks came as Bamyan became the first province to be handed over to Afghan forces.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, Bob finally got to dance with Sally...
some Afghan politicians see the liquidation of senior government officials controversial.

Concerned about the new wave of assassinations over the past weeks, parliamentarians urged investigation into the incidents.

Arabia
Saleh Says Dialogue Needed to End Yemen Crisis
Yemeni President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower...
called for "peaceful dialogue," saying that is the way to end the country's long-running political crisis, in an editorial published on Monday.
Dialogue in Yemen:
Them - "Get out!"
Him - "No!"

"We have never ceased to emphasize the necessity of a peaceful dialogue to find a solution to all these problems," Saleh wrote in an editorial that was published in Al-Thawra and other official newspapers.

"I again invite all the political forces to return to reason and respond favorably to the call to dialogue from Vice President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi to end the crisis," Saleh wrote in the editorial, which was published a day after the anniversary of his accession to power in 1978.

Saleh also defended his rule, in particular citing "the realization of the unity of Yemen" in 1990, when the north and south were united.

Protesters in Taez, Yemen's second-largest city which has been a flashpoint of demonstrations against Saleh's rule, on Sunday marked the anniversary of his rise to the presidency with a demonstration, waving black flags in mourning.

Saleh has since January faced protests calling for him to quit office, to which his security forces have responded with bloody attacks on demonstrators.

Some generals and military units have defected to the opposition and anti-regime rustics have battled military units loyal to Saleh in Sanaa, Taez and elsewhere.

Saleh has been in hospital in Soddy Arabia since early June receiving treatment for wounds sustained in a blast at his palace.

He appeared on television on July 7 for the first time since the attack, heavily bandaged.

Three days later, he was shown on television receiving John Brennan, U.S. President Barack B.O. Obama's top counter-terrorism adviser. He was in better shape than in his earlier appearance, although burns were still visible on his face.

Deputy Information Minister Abdo al-Janadi said on Saturday that Saleh will return home "soon."

Europe
EU says Danish border controls unjustified
(KUNA) -- EU experts who visited Denmark last week to check the implementation of measures aimed at reinforcing internal controls at the Danish borders reported Monday that they were unable to get sufficient justifications from the Danish side. A statement by the European Commission said the risk assessment required to justify the controls "was not sufficient and there were no clear instructions to border control officers on how to carry out controls. " EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmstrom, expressed her worries about the situation.

"Unfortunately, the mission did not enable us to get adequate answers to our questions," she said in a statement.

Malmstrom noted that there are persistent concerns about the compatibility of Denmark's strengthened internal control measures with the freedoms provided under the EU Treaty including the Schengen treaty that allows for freedom of movement among 25 European states. She stressed that it is incumbent on Denmark to demonstrate factually that the gravity of the situation justifies putting in place controls which might affect the exercise of free movement of goods, services and persons at the internal borders with Germany and Sweden.

"The Commission will not hesitate to use all tools at its disposal to guarantee free movement of goods, services and persons and the full respect of EU legislation," she stressed.

Denmark introduced the border controls in May claiming that it is aimed at controlling a sharp rise in crimes allegedly committed by immigrants in the country.

Allen West: No Tanks to Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood
U.S. Rep. Allen West says a planned sale of Abrams tanks to Egypt could play into the hands of radicals and further destabilize the region.

In a letter to Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon on Monday, West wrote:

"It has come to my attention that the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress on July 1, 2011 of a possible foreign military sale to the government of Egypt for 125 M1A1 Abrams tank kits for coproduction and associated weapons, equipment, parts, training and logistical support.

"One of the greatest threats to Egyptian stability, as well as to regional stability, is the growing prospect of a new Egyptian government under the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood. If given control of the country, the Muslim Brotherhood would nominate its own candidates and turn Egypt into a radical Islamic state.

"America must continue to stand with the Egyptian people and encourage them to build their own democracy with new political parties and freedoms. However, we must exercise caution with regard to military sales and support to the Egyptian government until a government is formed absent of the radical elements of the Muslim Brotherhood that will maintain active peace with Israel," stated West, R-Plantation.

"As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I strongly oppose any military sales of any kind to the government of Egypt as long as the Muslim Brotherhood remains active in the political process. Doing so would seriously jeopardize the safety and security of the state of Israel. The last thing I want to see is Egyptian M1A1 tanks rolling through the Sinai toward Jerusalem."

Project Gunwalker: Issa, Grassley Still Writing Letters To Get Info
This time, they are naming names from whom they want information. And they want the information and documents by July 29, 2011
Representative Darrell Issa and Senator Chuck Grassley are pushing for additional information and documents from the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in relation to the two agencies' roles in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' (ATF) reckless strategy known as Operation Fast and Furious. The strategy employed by the ATF allowed firearms to be purchased by known straw buyers and then transferred to third parties where the guns often crossed the border to Mexican drug cartels.

In the letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller, Grassley and Issa asked about the "veracity of claims" regarding the possible involvement of paid FBI informants in Operation Fast and Furious and "specifically at least one individual who is allegedly an FBI informant" and "might have been in communication with, and was perhaps even conspiring with, at least one suspect whom ATF was monitoring."

The letter to DEA Administrator Michelle Leonhart requested a briefing by DEA staff as well as "the number of informants or cooperating informants handled by other agencies identified in the course of any investigations related to Operation Fast and Furious."

In addition, both letters (to Mueller and Leonhart) asked for communications of several members of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force who were working in coordination with the ATF to conduct Operation Fast and Furious.

Home Front: WoT
Jury selection begins in soldier murder trial
Jury selection has started in the trial of a radical Muslim who admitted shooting up an Army recruiting center in Little Rock, killing a soldier.

By mid-afternoon, six jurors had been seated, while five of the 100 prospective jurors were excused from the panel.

The selection process got under way after the defendant, Abdulhakim Mujah Muhammad, was not allowed to fire his attorneys and represent himself. Circuit Judge Herbert Wright said, "I do not believe he's competent to represent himself."

Muhammad has sent several letters to the media "attempting to disrupt this court's proceedings," the judge noted.

Defense attorney Patrick Benca said he would claim his client, who rocked in his chair during the questioning of prospective jurors, was innocent by reason of mental disease or defect.

Muhammad, formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe, admitted to the shooting that killed Pvt. William Long and injured Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula. He is charged with first-degree murder in Long's death. If convicted, he could become the first person in the US since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to receive the death sentence for an act of terrorism.

Muhammad's father said his son was radicalized by Muslims while attending Tennessee State University in Nashville.

"Something is wrong with the Muslim leadership in Nashville," he said. "What happened to Carlos at those Nashville mosques isn't normal."

Islamic leaders in Nashville denied the allegations of brainwashing.

Muhammad reportedly underwent terrorist training in Yemen in 2007, causing some to wonder why the federal government isn't prosecuting him.

Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University said, "You certainly have the jurisdiction to try it in federal court."

He said, "Usually, in high-profile cases, the feds want to take them and in this one, they aren't. The bottom line, I think, is the facts in this case are pretty clear-cut and the state criminal courts in Arkansas are pretty competent, so I don't think there's an issue."
Plus it keeps Eric Holder away...

Ministry says Malik did not allege any country in Karachi unrest
[Dawn] A front man for the Interior Ministry on Monday clarified that Interior Minister Rehman Malik
Pak politician, current Interior Minister under the Gilani administration. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. He later joined the Pak Peoples Party and was chief security officer to Bhutto. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Näwaz Shärif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men.
did not allege any country, including Israel, for involvement in Bloody Karachi unrest.

He said that some of the electronic and print media had misinterpreted the minister's statement.

He clarified that the federal minister stated only that "some weapons of Israeli origin have been recovered by law enforcers in Bloody Karachi from some of the criminals."

The front man said that a section of media has misreported the minister's statement.

Iraq
'KSA sponsor of terrorism in Iraq'
[Iran Press TV] Soddy Arabia is a leading sponsor of terrorism in Iraq to promote its influence in the region and decrease Iraq-Iran relations, an analyst says.

"Soddy Arabia is a leading government that has sponsored, supported and funded suicide kabooms and terrorist attacks in Iraq since 2003, and the largest number of jacket wallahs outside of Iraq is the Saudis," Ali al-Ahmed, director of Institute for [Persian] Gulf Affairs (I[P]GA), said in an interview with Press TV.

He added that Soddy Arabia would also like to see American troops continue their presence in Iraq to dissuade what they claim to be an "Iranian-influence in Iraq."

"They see the Iraq-Iran relationship to be interpreted as influence and control," Ahmed said.

Last week, Iraqi parliamentarians said Riyadh provides financial and moral support for the terrorist groups in Iraq.

They said some terrorist elements, who have been jugged in Iraq, have referred to Saudi officials as their patrons.

Political analysts say Riyadh has failed in its attempts to prevent the coming into power of the current Shia-led government in Iraq.

The official religion in Soddy Arabia is Wahhabism -- an extremely intolerant interpretation of Islam.

The Saudi Wahhabis, also known as Salafis, have been blamed for fueling and funding terrorism against Shia Mohammedans as well as others across the world.

Soddy Arabia also supported former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the eight years of war between Iran and Iraq in the 1980s.

#3  Who is the bigger enemy Iran or Saudi?

Iran. Jihad is state policy. In Saudi, jihad is state religion but does not have the organization and resources that a state can bring. It's more diffuse and easier for a target state to counter if it has the will.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria Recognizes Palestinian State
[An Nahar] The Syrian foreign ministry said Monday that Damascus
...The City of Jasmin is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world. It has not always been inhabited by the same set of fascisti...
recognizes a Paleostinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital within the borders in effect prior to the 1967 Six-Day War.

"Syria recognizes a Paleostinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders and east Jerusalem as its capital, and on the basis of the preservation of Paleostinian legitimate rights," a statement said.

Syria "will treat the Damascus office of the PLO (Paleostine Liberation Organization) as an embassy upon the publication of this statement," the ministry added.

The Paleostinians plan to ask the U.N. General Assembly to recognize a Paleostinian state when the world body gathers in September, a move opposed by Israel and the United States which say progress can only be made through peace negotiations.

The Paleostinian application for U.N. membership will be submitted by the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
, the head of the pan-Arab organization, Nabil al-Arabi, said on Thursday in Qatar.

The Arab peace initiative committee "has decided to submit a call to the member states of the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
to recognize a Paleostinian state," Arabi told a news conference after a meeting of the committee in Doha.

Is this some sort of diplomatic finger-sandwiches-and-cocktails ritual which I, mere knuckle-dragging hillbilly ignoramus that I am, can't be expected to understand? Has the Syrian foreign ministry been trading off non-recognition for the occasional opportunity to make faces at the Israeli diplomats over the Golan or something like that?

EU Delegation Says Lebanon Must Fully Implement Resolution 1701
[An Nahar] A delegation of European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
ambassadors stressed on Monday the need for Leb to fully implement United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Security Council resolution 1701 as stipulated in its government's ministerial statement.

It welcomed in a statement after visiting the U.N. Interim Force in Leb headquarters at Ras al-Naqoura the cabinet's commitment to cooperating with the international force.

They were greeted at the scene by UNIFIL Commander Major General Alberto Asarta.

The talks also focused on the international troops' mission.

The delegation later toured the entire region near the Blue Line.
