Undercurrents below the Ground Zero mosque
If one accepts that the 19 fanatics who flew planes into the Twin Towers were merely self-proclaimed Muslims who, by their very act, proved themselves incapable of acting in the name of “true Islam,” then building a mosque at Ground Zero should evoke no emotion whatsoever; it should not be viewed differently than, say, building a church, a community center or a druid shrine.

A more realistic explanation is that most Americans do not buy the 19 fanatics story, but view the the 9/11 assault as a product of an anti- American ideology that, for good and bad reasons, has found a fertile breeding ground in the hearts and minds of many Muslim youngsters who see their Muslim identity inextricably tied with this anti-American ideology.

The Ground Zero mosque is being equated with that ideology. Public objection to the mosque thus represents a vote of no confidence in mainstream American Muslim leadership which, on the one hand, refuses to acknowledge the alarming dimension that anti-Americanism has taken in their community and, paradoxically, blames America for its creation.

#1  I think most Americans see Islam not so much anti-American specifically, but as fundamentally anti-civilizational.

Islam has produced billions of raving murderous savages who are incapable of co-existing with other religions, incapable of innovation in arts or sciences, incapable of decent treatment of women and children, incapable of appreciating modern life with the notable exceptions of explosive weaponry and cell phones, which are provided in a kind of sick tribute/welfare by their betters. Incapable of being truthful or honest. Incapable of mercy or gratitude. Incapable of accepting the basic humanity of fellow man outside of their tribe.

That is how most of us see Islam, and its followers.

Many Americans of distrustful of mosques not because they are islamophobic or hateful but because they have come to be conditioned by the violence, vitriole, and hatred that is spewed out towards Americans in many of these mosques. Synagogues and churches have open services in this country. I don't think the same is true of mosques. The question is why would we not be leery of mosques?

The NYC victory mosque has some sleazy undercurrents coming out about Sharif El Gamel who owns the building. He owes more than $200K in back taxes for the property. He has a record of multiple arrests dating back to 1990 for assault, DWI, disorderly conduct (several times). The press hasn't bothered with such things they are in such a rush to condemn anyone who questions the building of this mosque.

#3  The NYC victory mosque has some sleazy undercurrents....

Not the least of which is the Mayor's middle eastern financial investment portfolio.

#4  Scooter,
I couldn't have phrased it better !

First they take down the tween symbols of American/western way and then they "innocently" try to build a symbol of their retarded religion on the same spot.
There are many qualities that may be atributed to Arabs and Muslims but "Tact" certainly isn't one of them.....
This is certainly bloody Chutzpa !
