Clues about X-37B's true nature?
Mostly speculation. The thing disappeared for a week or two while it was doing a little extracurricular maneuvering. Might be related to future satellite operations.

The usual progressive nonsense. I'm wondering if the Arsenault family has links to Soros.

Arabia
A terrible disease of the mind
[Arab News] By ZAID NABULSI
An anti-Zionist rant from the Tragic Kingdom...
My family and I long to return to the Gardens of Cordoba (Qurtuba). We agonize with every breath to re-inhabit the castles of Seville (Ishbeelyah). In our veins, there runs an eternal longing to walk again in the footsteps of our forefathers in Zaragoza (Saraqusta). We yearn to once again cultivate the orchards of Valladolid (Balad Al Waleed). We shall strive, by military means if necessary, to see the blessed day when we can tread along the rose-scented pathways of the splendid palace of Al Hambra (Al Hamra'a) in Granada (Ghirnata).

Every stone and every particle of sand in that Iberian holy land belongs to me and to my people, exclusively. No Spaniard terrorist has the right to obstruct the will of God and deny my family the legal title to the land of our ancestors. It is God who had given us Andalucía (Al Andalus), and it is God who promised us that we, the exiles, shall ingather in it once again.

#7  Self delusion is on the path to self destruction. Muslims have a terrible neurosis, because they are taught that theirs is a better and more civilized way; and even an uneducated peasant can tell that their lives are primitive and barbaric compared to just about everyone else.

It is not faith that creates terrorism, but doubt, combined with sociopathy and led by psychopathy. That is why they get murderously upset by seeing an illustration of a bearded man with a bomb for a turban.

They also know that if their saner brethren get so much as a chance to bolt from their religion, they can and will take it. Because it no uncertain terms, it sucks.

#8  Romans did some 'JOO cleansing' a few years back (believe it was before 'Mo' was born'). Destroyed a few temples, palaces and other assorted buildings, too.

Roman's didn't leave much when they got done (Carthage springs to mind). Probably more 1st-3rd century artifacts from Rome laying about in the Middle East than from 'indigenous' folks.

Using Mr. Nabulsi's logic, shouldn't the Middle East be home to the Italians, too?

#9  Mixing respected scholarship with dubious theories, the author, Shlomo Sand, a professor at Tel Aviv University, frames the narrative as a startling exposure of suppressed historical facts. The translated version of his polemic has sparked a new wave of coverage in Britain and has provoked spirited debates online and in seminar rooms.

Professor Sand, a scholar of modern France, not Jewish history, candidly states his aim is to undercut the Jews’ claims to the land of Israel by demonstrating that they do not constitute “a people,” with a shared racial or biological past. The book has been extravagantly denounced and praised, often on the basis of whether or not the reader agrees with his politics.

The vehement response to these familiar arguments — both the reasonable and the outrageous — highlights the challenge of disentangling historical fact from the sticky web of religious and political myth and memory.

...

Books challenging biblical and conventional history continually pop up, but what distinguishes the dispute over origins from debates about, say, the reality of the exodus from Egypt or the historical Jesus, is that it is so enmeshed in geopolitics. The Israeli Declaration of Independence states: “After being forcibly exiled from their Land, the People kept faith with it throughout their Dispersion and never ceased to pray and hope for their return to it.” The idea of unjust exile and rightful return undergirds both the Jews’ and the Palestinians’ conviction that each is entitled to the land.

Since Professor Sand’s mission is to discredit Jews’ historical claims to the territory, he is keen to show that their ancestry lines do not lead back to ancient Palestine. He resurrects a theory first raised by 19th-century historians, that the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe, to whom 90 percent of American Jews trace their roots, are descended from the Khazars, a Turkic people who apparently converted to Judaism and created an empire in the Caucasus in the eighth century. This idea has long intrigued writers and historians. In 1976, Arthur Koestler wrote “The Thirteenth Tribe” in the hopes it would combat anti-Semitism; if contemporary Jews were descended from the Khazars, he argued, they could not be held responsible for Jesus’ Crucifixion.

By now, experts who specialize in the subject have repeatedly rejected the theory, concluding that the shards of evidence are inconclusive or misleading, said Michael Terry, the chief librarian of the Jewish division of the New York Public Library. Dr. Ostrer said the genetics also did not support the Khazar theory.

Book Calls Jewish People an ‘Invention’

A major surprise from both surveys is the genetic closeness of the two Jewish communities of Europe, the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim. The Ashkenazim thrived in Northern and Eastern Europe until their devastation by the Hitler regime, and now live mostly in the United States and Israel. The Sephardim were exiled from Spain in 1492 and from Portugal in 1497 and moved to the Ottoman Empire, North Africa and the Netherlands.

The two genome surveys extend earlier studies based just on the Y chromosome, the genetic element carried by all men. They refute the suggestion made last year by the historian Shlomo Sand in his book “The Invention of the Jewish People” that Jews have no common origin but are a miscellany of people in Europe and Central Asia who converted to Judaism at various times.

Jewish communities from Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus all have substantial genetic ancestry that traces back to the Levant; Ethiopian Jews and two Judaic communities in India are genetically much closer to their host populations.

#15  that the claim that the Jews of today are the ethnic offspring of the Biblical Jews is yet another Zionist myth, because all records tell us that the current Jews are the descendants of Khazar tribes who converted to Judaism,

If they really believed that they're not the descendants of Jews, but merely a mixture of Russians and Turks, wouldn't they be more anxious to make peace with them?

#20  Yes tipper, I'm familiar with the IQ studies of Ashkenazic Jews. Higher average IQ among Ashkenazic Jews compared to Sephardic Jews doesn't come from different ancestry (as they are substantially alike) but from other factors, which are discussed in Jon Entine's book "Abraham's Children".

CIA Red Cell Memorandum on United States "exporting terrorism", 2 Feb 2010
Wikileaks:
This CIA "Red Cell" report from February 2, 2010, looks at what will happen if it is internationally understood that the United States is an exporter of terrorism; 'Contrary to common belief, the American export of terrorism or terrorists is not a recent phenomenon, nor has it been associated only with Islamic radicals or people of Middle Eastern, African or South Asian ethnic origin. This dynamic belies the American belief that our free, open and integrated multicultural society lessens the allure of radicalism and terrorism for US citizens.' The report looks at a number cases of US exported terrorism, including attacks by US based or financed Jewish, Muslim and Irish-nationalism terrorists. It concludes that foreign perceptions of the US as an "Exporter of Terrorism" together with US double standards in international law, may lead to noncooperation in renditions (including the arrest of CIA officers) and the decision to not share terrorism related intelligence with the United States.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
How Effective Is Iran's New Drone?
"Iranians Roll Out Unmanned Bomber," the Wall Street Journal warned darkly on its front page the day after Ahmadinejad's announcement. Global television has repeatedly shown two chador-clad women pulling up the cloak to reveal the Karrar - Farsi for Striker - but which Ahmadinejad affectionately dubbed the "ambassador of death."

Yet the gap between rhetoric and rockets looms large, experts suggest. "More like the 'ambassador of minor damage to unintended target,'" says Richard Aboulafia, a veteran analyst with the Teal Group, an aerospace-consulting firm just outside Washington, D.C. Iran lacks the ability to guide its drone over long distances, nor does it have the sensors - both on the aircraft and at the ground stations controlling it - to make it any kind of a threat. Adds Kenneth Katzman, an Iranian-military expert with the Congressional Research Service: "It is likely to have virtually no actual military value."

But Iran isn't concerned about reality, just making the right impression, especially among its home audience. "Iran has no defense against an Israeli or U.S. first strike," John McCreary, a veteran U.S. intelligence analyst, said in his NightWatch blog Tuesday. "The leaders want to camouflage that fact by showing off weapons, without admitting that they have little value in protecting Iranians." Tehran also knows that the idea of an unmanned aircraft packs an insidious kind of punch. With no pilot at risk, the visceral reaction is that they can go anywhere to spy or destroy. But that's due to the success the Pentagon has had in recent years with those Predators and Reapers over Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. That success is not guaranteed simply because a country possesses drones.

State Department spokesman Crowley suggested Monday that the drone rollout is part of a push by Iran to counter a growing alliance of its neighbors and the U.S. concerned about its nuclear ambitions. "There's no particular logic to the path that Iran is on," he said. "Its nuclear ambitions, we believe, will actually in the long run make Iran less secure." Especially if the guys who designed the drone also are working on Iran's A-bomb.

#1  Building a drone is easy. Making one that is a useful military tool instead of one for population control is hard.

That drone is not stealthy, is slow and can be blown out of the sky very easily (as the Iranians found out after they killed some of their own drones by accident... see strategypage.com for details) and most likely can be jammed with little effort.

I would agree that this is mostly for show and bluster. And maybe Kurd killing.

The Liberal Hawks and Iran
In short: Lib-hawks (who were a force in the Dem party ten years ago) don't want to disavow force against Iran; lib-doves do.The Obama administration will have to decide to either let Iran go nuke or stop it with force. The currently-quiet fault lines in the liberal coalition of hawks and doves will open up regardless.
