Home Front: WoT
What is a Veteran?
by Marine Corp chaplain, Father Denis Edward O'Brian

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged
scar, a certain look in the eye. Others may carry the evidence inside them,
a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel in the leg - or perhaps
another sort of inner steel: the soul's ally forged in the refinery of
adversity.

Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe
wear no badge or emblem. You can't tell a vet just by looking. What is a
vet?

A vet is the cop on the beat who spent six months in Saudi Arabia sweating
two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn't run out
of fuel.

A vet is the barroom loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose
overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic
scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near the 38th Parallel.

A vet is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing
every night for two solid years in Da Nang.

A vet is the POW who went away one person and came back another - or didn't
come back at all.

A vet is the drill instructor who has never seen combat - but has saved
countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account punks and gang members into
marines, airmen, sailors, soldiers and coast guardsmen, and teaching them to
watch each other's backs.

A vet is the parade-riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medals
with a prosthetic hand.

A vet is the career quartermaster who watches the ribbons and medals pass
him by.

A vet is the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose
presence at the Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory
of all the anonymous heroes whose valor dies unrecognized with them on the
battlefield or in the ocean's sunless deep.

A vet is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket - palsied now and
aggravatingly slow - who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes
all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the nightmares
come.

A vet is an ordinary and yet extraordinary human being, a person who offered
some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who
sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.

A vet is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is
nothing more that the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest,
greatest nation ever known.

So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean
over and say, "Thank You." That's all most people need, and in most cases it
will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.

Again, two little words that mean a lot to any Veteran -- "THANK YOU."

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. Think of the veteran's of past wars and those brave men and women now fighting to keep us free. Thank you and god bless.

#1  Thank you Father, well stated.

#2  A fraternity brother once observed that it takes about fourteen seconds at a party to spot the vets.
He's right, although I don't know how it's done.
But it happens.

#3  I've heard the same, but I am not so sure. Its easier to spot a combat vet.

Birthday Message From The Commandant
General M.W. Hagee is the Commandant of the Marine Corps. He has issued the following birthday message:

Two hundred and twenty-nine years ago, the Second Continental Congress established a Corps of Marines to fight for a democratic people's independence. Since then countless Marines have raised their hand and sworn to defend our Nation's freedoms and preserve its liberties. This year's anniversary again finds Marines engaged throughout the globe for the same noble purposes. The bravery, heroism and selflessness of all Marines—wherever they are serving—have added significantly to our rich legacy and measured up to the high standards that have come to epitomize all who wear the eagle, globe and anchor.

The current battlefields of the global war on terror are linked to the storied campaigns of our past by an unbroken tradition of proud and loyal service. At New Providence, Chapultepec, Belleau Wood, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, the Chosin Reservoir, Con Thien, Kuwait and now in places like Fallujah, Marines have consistently demonstrated a dedication to duty, a commitment to warfighting excellence, and a devotion to each other that has instilled a fierce determination to overcome seemingly impossible challenges. Our warrior ethos is and will continue to be the Corps' hallmark.

The fortitude and sacrifices of Marines and their families have been vital in protecting our Nation from those who would do us harm. Whether preparing and sustaining our agile force or engaged in battle, the esprit de corps, tireless energy, calm courage and inspired leadership of Marines continue to make a monumental difference in this world. Your unselfish dedication and significant accomplishments—demonstrated repeatedly over this past year in numerous places such as the Anbar province of Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, Haiti and in the crucial job here at home supporting our deployed forces—are deeply respected and valued by your fellow Americans.

Marines, as we celebrate with friends and families the founding of our beloved Corps, you should take pride in our long history of distinguished service to this great Nation and its citizens. I ask you to remember especially the sacrifices of our fallen and wounded comrades. Finally, rededicate yourselves to taking care of one another and ensuring we remain the finest warfighting organization in the world.

Happy Birthday, Marines. Semper Fidelis, and Keep Attacking!

Hat tip to Powerline.

Arafat's Bedroom Farce
Commentary By Daniel Pipes, EFL:
It is hard to find words adequate to describe the malevolent 40-year long career of the world's longest reigning terrorist. This is a man who fouled his nest in Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank and Gaza; a moral monster who fooled the world into thinking he had reformed (remember that Nobel Peace Prize?).Yet his farcical death-scene provides perhaps the appropriate coda to an unworthy life.
... as well as the occasion for innocent mirth...
The end is as preposterous as what came before, only much funnier. First, there is the wife, Suha, a Greek Orthodox convert to Islam who nonetheless continued to observe Christian holidays and now bellows out "Allahu Akbar" as she spends a reputed $100,000 a month living the good life in Paris.
"MINE! THE MONEY'S MINE! I NEED THAT MONEY!"
Then there are the long-suffering minions, hoping to get their day in the sun, free at last of their irascible, unpredictable, domineering leader. Finally, there are the hapless French politicians, stung by their own stupidity in sending a military plane to Jordan to retrieve Arafat to Paris, then treating him like royalty (including a courtesy visit by President Jacques Chirac), only to find themselves parties to his death-bed antics.
"He's dead, Jean-Louis!"
"HE AIN'T DEAD! LOOK! HIS FINGER MOVED! HE'S TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH US! WHAT'RE THE ACCOUNT NUMBERS, YASSER?"
"He's not dead! He hasn't named his successor yet! Yasser! Yasser! Who's gonna succeed you? Blink yer eyes, dammit!"
"Get yer foot off that oxygen hose, dammit!"
"He's been poisoned, you can tell! It wuz them Jews as dunnit!"
"He's brain dead!"
"No he ain't. He's always like that!"
Go read the whole thing.

Terror Networks & Islam
The Turkish Republic Is Based on a System of Kufr
From Khilafah
On the 29th October of every year the people remember the same day long ago in 1923, the day in which the Turkish Republic was founded. We say again that the republican system is a product of disbelieving western thought. It has no relation with Islam. Those who claim the republic comes from Islam, through deduction from the rules of election and shura (consultation) are either in manifest error or they are agents of the disbelieving west. Accordingly, it is haram for Muslims to rejoice or celebrate such a memory. We will continue, with the will of Allah, to reveal the error, falsehood and true nature of the Turkish republic, which is based on a system of kufr. We will continue to do this as we have done before and remind the people that celebration of its foundation is prohibited, and we will continue to repeat this until we witness its destruction.

It is no secret that the republican system is a product of the European civilization which is a civilization of kufr. It is the Europeans who first implemented democracy, secularism and republics; three satanic ideas invented to deliver them from the oppression of the Dark Ages, during which they sank in the mire. Ironically there is no great difference between the Dark Ages and the new systems they invented. At the time they thought themselves liberated by these systems, yet they filled the world with strife, wars, oppression and persecution. They filled Muslim land, as well as their own land and that of others with lakes of blood and tears. The republican system in Turkey continues to retract the people daily and drag them further into the depths of the abyss. Through their entire history, the people of Turkey have never reached the decline they have reached today-a total decline at a political, economic, social, cultural and moral level. ....

#1  Sure thing. Tell Chirac he'll have to find a new sucker. Tell the bloody EU to bugger off. Same for NATO - the bastards. You don't need 'em - you're moving backward in time, boldly going where everyone went before - and left as fast as they were able. Tres' chic. Create the State of Khilafah RamaLamaDingDong. That will solve everything.

Certainly removes those pesky targeting complications. Thanks.

Sorry Hilafa,
Allah cant grant your wish immediately, right now he is trying to organize a reception with Lucifer

Please call after the hollidays.

#6  "if wishes came true I was multi billionair by now :)"

#7  There seem to be an awful lot of folks in the Middle East that need adult supervision. Wishes don't make anything so - hard work, dedication, and determination do. It's easier just to go along with the flow, blaming it all on "the wishes of allen", whether or not you get a job, whether or not you have the money to buy a car, whether or not you get married and have a family - it's never up to YOU, it's all up to "Allah". Such childishness and foolishness is why Israel keeps kicking a$$ every time the Arabs try to "wipe it from the face of the Earth". Go back to being the 7th Century idiots you wish to be, while the rest of us make life better for everyone, including even you, you insignificant little weasel.
