[WASHINGTON.CBSLOCAL] President Barack Obama has high praise for potential 2016 contenders Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"I think Joe Biden will go down in history as one of the best vice presidents ever, and he has been with me, at my side, in every tough decision that I've made," Obama told MSNBC in an interview Thursday held at American University. "Hillary, I think, will go down in history as one of the finest secretaries of state we've ever had, and helped to transition us away from a deep hole that we were in, when I first came into office, around the world, and rebuilt confidence and trust in the United States."

Obama: 'Biden Will Go Down In History As One Of The Best Vice Presidents Ever'
Quite honestly, I don't believe the Champ is qualified to make such an assessment. In fact, I am certain he is not. He's simply issuing an unsolicited heaping of praise, in the hopes that some of might somehow fall on him. After all, everything is about him.
#3
Yes, this about himself. Had he picked someone who was bright, ambitious, and capable, you don't think there would be elements within his own party right now thinking about the process of putting the alternative into the White House to save their collective pathetic butts? Even posters here at the Rant have mentioned how bad Biden would be as an alternative. So in the chess game of power, from the Champs view that makes the man one of the best vice presidents ever.

I should not have been, but I was amazed at how adeptly he managed to insert a portion of his own Horatio Alger story into his brief, televised eulogy to kameraad Mandela. This fellow's narcissism absolutely knows no bounds.
#7
This missed irony (missed by all but Mandela himself), prison rehabilitation can actually work. Being confined on a rather isolated albeit safe island, actually permitted him to study, reflect, and survive the violence of the revolution. I wonder how many of Mandela's colleagues lived to be 95, surrounded by adoring family and media at death ?

I think Obama picked Biden as a life insurance policy.
I can see the conspirators saying "Hey, let's knock off Obama". Other conspirator: "Yeah, but if we do, we end up with Biden as president". First conspirator: "You're right. Forget it. Let's go golfing instead".
Attention Secret Service/NSA: The above is a joke. I am in no way advocating or planning any kind of assassination or violence against the president or any other official.

"People in government screw up all the time, and I have no control or issue any penalty, but what the problem is, is that there is not more 1935 or 1945 government."
[CNSNEWS] Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) says his plan to nearly double the federal gas tax is needed because the tax hasn't been raised in years and a decrease in fuel tax revenues has occurred due to the improved fuel efficiency of vehicles.
When discussing his proposal on Fox News Dec. 3, Blumenauer said, "First of all, we haven't raised the gas tax in 20 years.
"During that time, the amount that the average motorist pays per mile that they drive because of increased fuel efficiency and inflation has been cut in half," he continued.
Blumenauer introduced a House bill this week that would raise the federal gas tax from 18.4 cents per gallon to 33.4 per gallon. The measure also would raise the federal tax on diesel fuel from 24.4 cents to 42.8 cents per gallon.

When discussing his proposal on Fox News Dec. 3, Blumenauer said, "First of all, we haven't raised the gas tax in 20 years.
But then again, we've not lowered it in 20 years either. Like many of colleagues within the beltway, his logic escapes me. Harnessing the citizens of Oceania to an ever increasing tax burden has become a religion with these people. Why anyone continues to vote for them remains a profound mystery.

Cigarettes, dirty oil and gas are evil polluters and add to the sense of lack. Gov't must regulate them for the greater good. Soon we will discover that pension plans, bank savings accounts, 401k's, CD, cookie jars, gold & silver also contribute to the sense of lack and the breakdown of Social Justice.
I blame racist, rural and suburban English speaking legacy seniors who do not vote, no longer work and pay taxes, who defy amortization tables and refuse to expire but rather insist on being warehoused in costly extended care facilities. Withholding medical treatment and restricting the number of practicing doctors will help, but as Oprah has indicated, true social justice will not be achieved until these people are gone.

Even when you least expect it, the sarc is always there. You just can't turn off the sarc. It's like social injustice, no matter how hard you try, IT'S ALWAYS THERE!!!

Reminds me of the town that set up a water saving program. The town reduced overall water usage by 50%. The water company then doubled the water rates to pay for the infrastructure bonds.
Hey NW hipsters. Apparently your social lifestyle taxes have nothing to do with being better people. Up and be sheered, a doubling of fuel taxes will do wonders to your cup of joe. Why, before you know it there will be a tax on bicycles for not conducting commerce in gasoline.
Because there has never been a tax on not purchasing something, right? right?

gas tax funds have always been a ready piggy bank for crooks politicians to steal from "leverage" when their pet social redistribution programs run in the red. Repay? Pshaw!

Yes, amazing with all that revenue flow, the infrastructure still seems to deteriorate with years of neglect.

So this will effectively raise the price per gallon of fuel by the amount of the tax. Gasoline sellers are not likely going to eat the tax and maintain the current price are they (rhetorical question)? Stuff this along with Obamacare.
[WEEKLYSTANDARD] Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body... 's $585,000 hotel bill for a Gay Paree visit early in 2013 focused a lot of attention on the issue of the high cost of VIP travel. Even as Biden is currently on a swing through the Far East, the State Department has posted a $583,000 contract with the Shangri-la Hotel in Singapore for the vice president's three-day/two-night stay this past July, his most recent Far East visit. Though the online Justification and Approval document is somewhat poor quality, it indicates a need for a hotel "to host a VIP visit of over 250 guests at during the principal's visit," the "principal" in this case being the vice president

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
