Plugging "green jobs" from his Escalade. Should've put loudpeakers on it, like the "Blues Brothers".

...he was in town last weekend with the UAW’s militant President Bob King leading the “Jobs, Justice, and Peace” march promoting government-funded green jobs...
Can I deduce from this that Bob King wants to unionize all those "green jobs" under the UAW umbrella? What's the matter, Bob, you afraid of losing membership as a result of killing GM, Ford and Chrysler? Maybe that's why they need the government funding. Anybody with any sense in the private sector would run like hell.

Methinks he ought to be protesting outside the home of Al Gore and the other crony capitalist recipients of the $529 DoE loan to build an electric sports sedan... in Finland.
A nation full of single middle-aged women, unwanted by middle-aged men who are looking only at those under 30.
Former police detective Desmond Campbell has been jailed for at least 24 years for pushing his new bride over a cliff in the Royal National Park south of Sydney.
Sentencing Campbell today, Justice Megan Latham said his wife of six months, Janet, had "died in a strange place far from her family, her friends, and her community."
She handed the 52-year-old a non-parole period of 24 years, saying he had shown no remorse or contrition that could have counted in his favour in consideration of the length of the sentence. What Des Campbell did: Married a woman (though he said she was an ugly pig behind her back) and took her camping five metres from a cliff edge And to a former girlfriend he dumped after he got a $60,000 sports car out of her... Conman costs Englishwoman thousands Ahh the path of true love never does run smooth, especially in my country, Australia, where men don't really like women. They like their money and they like their mates. Yes, this guy is extreme but try getting a 50-year-old man for a date if you are a good looking, slim, fit 48 or 50-year-old woman in Australia. They can't wait to go to the US, UK, Canada...anywhere but here.

LOL trailing wife, i would love a US hubby even if he did bring his gun. When I hit 48, i'm coming to your blessed shores :)
OOPs gotta say Fred I'm really sorry I double posted this one though the new story is an update feature from the SMH. I thought it didn't go in because it said something at me in computer language i didn't understand...sorry!!

this is a horrible crime but a great great story.
Warning signs the murdered lady missed:
1) That her husband's ex-wife was suing him for recovery of money he took from her
2) That the husband's ex-wife tried to warn her
3) That her family didn't like him
4) That he didn't introduce her to his family
5) That he treated her cruelly sometimes such as calling her "ugly pig" behind her back (though she might not have known this)
6) That he was cheating multiple times (though she might not have known she probably suspected)
7) That her husband was in debt
8) That her husband asked her for money and she gave it to him!
all of these reasons.... alarm bells
But the alarm bells didn't go off.
And I know why
Because when you are lonely and 48 and haven't had a partner in nearly a decade, and when you think that nobody will ever love you again - and then along comes a man who says he wants to marry you, it seems like all your dreams have come true. Like there is a God after all.
And you are so so happy to get your heart's desire, against all the odds, that you close your eyes to the warning signs. I really understand that woman and why she fell prey to that man.
And I also understand that man.
He didn't care because he is a sociopath. He lacks empathy and has been that way since birth. He doesn't feel anything and sees the women as dollar signs to be manipulated. Less than human - obstacles in his way. He sees the vulnerable older ones, tells them what they want to hear, take their money and dump them. This time he went too far and killed one.
ps: where did trailing wife's comment go? I think my computer must have ghosts.

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa, anon1. It's not you. I'm taking a cold medicine that's making me a bit spacy, and clearly affecting my judgement. I hit submit when I meant preview, looked at the result, and decided it was rude and heartless, which you didn't deserve. So I disappeared it, taking unfair advantage of my ability to do that. I shan't make that misjudgement again. To everyone, I apologize.
The sense of that comment was,
Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. That which is from far away is exotic and desirable, which is why Australian women are looked upon favourably on the other side of the globe. But American husbands might insist on bringing their guns with them...
It was probably somewhat less incoherent earlier. Dear anon1, when you come, you'll have to beat them off with a stick, you'll be that popular. Again, my apologies.

I love american men. and best of all, they love australian women.
They should all come over here immediately because let me tell you there is a market over here. A great demand for men that are not Australian. not that we dont want our own blokes we do, but they don't want us!!
Bethany Storro was wheeled into a small room with her face wrapped in bandages. Her parents on either side of her, she shoved aside the moments where she's asked "Why me?" and instead struck a thankful tone.
Storro, a 28-year-old Vancouver woman, was grateful she can still see. She said she was thankful for passionate doctors, supportive e-mails from strangers around the world, her family and God.
"For some reason, I had this feeling I needed to buy sunglasses," Storro said inside a conference room at the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel in Portland. "That's Jesus, for sure."
The "cute" sunglasses Storro said she picked out a week earlier and bought just 20 minutes before a cup of acid was splashed into her face are being credited with saving her eyesight.
The attack happened about 7:15 p.m. Monday at Esther Short Park, across the street from the Starbucks near the intersection of West Eighth and Columbia streets.
Storro was standing outside the passenger side of her car, planning to get some coffee when a woman approached and said, "Hey, pretty girl. How are you? Would you like a drink of this?"
Storro declined. The woman let the acid fly.
"It was the most painful thing," she said. "My heart stopped. I almost passed out.
"It made holes in my shirt. Imagine that on your skin. I could hear sizzling."
Doctors at Legacy on Wednesday performed a mechanical dermabrasion procedure on Storro aiming to minimize the long-term effects of burns Storro's doctor described as "second-degree and deeper."
She said she decided to tell her story because she wants to ensure the woman who burned her face is caught.
"If I saw her, I would instantly know," Storro said. "I want people to know what this person did to me."
She's likely to remain in the hospital for several more days before leaving to stay with her parents, Joe and Nancy Neuwelt.
She said she's using humor to prolong the "ups" and fend off the "downs."
"I'm just trying to stay positive," Storro said. "It's not about looks."
The assailant was described as a black woman between 25 and 35, who wore a green shirt and khaki shorts. She had medium-length black hair that was pulled back, said Vancouver Police Detective Cpl. Wally Stefan, who is hoping for more information from the public. I am surmising that if the roles were reversed....or g*d forbid...a white on a muslim crime there would be a lot more airplay.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Stefan at 360-487-7425.

Acid attack. That is a method used against women in islamic countries. Wonder if this was a black muslim? Maybe just a hateful person and random act as stated but maybe not.

Doesn't sound like one of those Muslim 'honor' things to me. More like some meth-addled chick was mad because she thought (possibly correctly, who knows?) Bethany was messing around with her man.
[Iran Press] Police in the South African province of Free State say that 14 prisoners have escaped from the Namahadi jail after subduing two police officers. Oooh! Oooh! I seen dis movie!

These things cycle, no matter how tempting to blame it on global cooling. We've had two good years going into this one, so there are reserves, according to this cute little interactive thingy by the Financial Times people. You will have to register, but it's free.

Is this nail hammering thing a new trend? Or have we just not heard mention of such attacks?
The inauguration of a discotheque called Mecca in Spain infuriated Muslims in the country and raised questions about the position of Muslim workers offered jobs in the controversial place. So how about...they don't work there?
After 10 years of renovations, an old discotheque in the city of Aguilas in the southwestern province of Murcia opened its doors on June 18 under the name La Meca amid protests from Muslim individuals and organizations, the Arab Spanish newspaper Andalus Press reported Wednesday. A poll conducted after the inauguration of the discotheque revealed the indignation of Spanish Muslims who viewed the action as disrespectful and prejudiced. Who ran the poll, "Muslim Illustrated"?
Mohamed Ali, head of the Spanish Federation of Islamic Religious Entities, said Mecca is the most venerated place for Muslims all over the world. "Muslims pray towards Mecca and it is there that the prophet received the holy Quran," he said in a statement. "Calling a place for dancing and drinking by that name shows disregard to the feelings of Muslims." Uh-huh. So...what's your point?
The inauguration of La Meca raised questions about Muslims who work there. In fact, a Moroccan man rejected an offer to work in the discotheque in protest of the name. "It is up to him to decide," Ali added. "It depends on his financial situation and whether he has the option to work in other places." There ya go, Ali. Now you're getting it.
Antonio GarcĂa Petite, founder of the Committee of Muslim Arbitration and Good Deeds, Boy oh boy, I'll bet he's a busy guy, huh?
said that the name Mecca is usually used commercially to refer to a center or destination of a specific activity. "Expressions like 'the Mecca of cinema' and 'the Mecca of Jazz'... etc. are commonly used without any offence," he said. Well..not yet.
However, he added, it is inappropriate to call a discotheque by that name. Kinda like...putting a mosque at Ground Zero?
"A discotheque is for worldly pleasures and what takes place inside it, like drinking alcohol, is not in line with the principles of Islam." God, what a whiny bunch of bitches you are...

(PTI) Relation between US President Barack Obama and his predecessor George W Bush remains "awkward" and "non-existent," according to a report.
The two leaders spoke yesterday as Obama announced the end of US operations in Iraq. The last conversation they had was in January when Obama asked Bush to raise money along with former president Bill Clinton for Haiti.
"There is, of course, no obligation for presidents to keep in touch with their predecessors, and there is no evidence that Mr Obama and Mr Bush bear any ill will toward each other," the New York Times said.

There are many inconvenient truths like this. Unfortunately there are too many people who still believe the narrative that is put forth.
If Obama were smart he would take from the wisdom and experience of George W. Bush. That he doesn't speaks to his arrogance.

So President Obama is willing to talk to the worldÂ’s despots without preconditions but he is loathe to consulting with his predecessor. That should tell you much about this mans character.
Islamabad, Sep 2 (PTI) A Pakistani minister wants US President Barack Obama to offer Eid prayers at Ground Zero in New York and become the "Amir-ul-Momineen" or Caliph of Muslims. Ummmmmm...yo, minister. Appreciate the thought, but you really ain't helping me out here...
Minister of State for Industries Ayatullah Durrani, who belongs to the ruling Pakistan People''s Party, said the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival, expected to be observed on September 11, would be a "golden opportunity" for Obama to offer Eid prayers and declare himself the leader of all Muslims. "In this way, all the problems of the Muslim world would be solved," Durrani said. But, let me be clear. I would be very interested in acquiring some of whatever it is you're smokin'...
Durrani, a former member of the Pakistan Ideological Council, contended that the Muslim world is in "dire need" of a Caliph and occupying this distinguished slot would provide Obama "exemplary titles" like "Mullah Barack Hussain Obama" or "Allama Obama". Hmmmmmmm...Let me talk to Rahm about this.
Golly. Titles. Do sprockets come with that Caliph gig, too?
He said: "The time is approaching fast. Barack Hussain Obama must act now. This is a golden opportunity, Muslims badly need it." Obama''s elevation to the Islamic Caliphate would be the "key to success", he claimed but did not offer any explanation for his remarks. I'm thinking...magic mushrooms.

"In this way, all the problems of the Muslim world would be solved," Durrani said.
Intriquing idea Minister Duranni. Our President may however be insulted that you do not already see him as the "Amir-ul-Momineen." Many of us here have an even better and longer lasting solution to the Muslim dilemma.

I'd love for him to be the "Leader of all Muslims" and get the hell OUT of America.
Or even better to be "Leader of All muslims and be stationed at Qom when the Israellis blast it to radioactive atoms.

[The News (Pak)] Growing resentment among Pakistain flood victims on the pace of aid delivery is hampering the relief effort, the international Red Thingy warned Thursday, saying it had to halt two distributions recently due to unrest.
"What we are detecting is a very worrying trend of areas where ... people are so in need, so resentful of not getting enough aid, that they turn understandably aggressive and this is bad because it doesn't help in our efforts to reach more of them," said Jacques de Maio, the head of operations for South Asia for the International Committee of the Red Thingy.
"We are worried because if this trend extends, propagates," it could hinder the aid effort, he noted. De Maio noted that the trend is particularly worrying because, unlike other disasters such as an earthquake, the floods are generating more and more victims as the high waters sweep into new regions.

[Pak Daily Times] The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the arrest of police officials involved in the Sialkot incident.
The SC expressed dissatisfaction over police's performance for not nabbing the four absconding police officials involved in the execution of two brothers in Sialkot last month and directed that the accused officials be arrested by next Sunday. "Why is police so helpless in nabbing the culprits involved in the gruesome murder of two brothers," Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry questioned while hearing a suo motu case initiated over media reports of lynching of two brothers in Sialkot by a mob with the patronage of police on August 15.
The court directed police to ensure the arrest of the four absconding police officials, including SHO Rana Muhammad Ilyas, constables Mubarik Ali, Tariq Mahmood and ASI Waris Ali, who had been involved in the brutal killing of brothers Mughees and Muneeb. Punjab Advocate General Khawaja Haris, Punjab Additional Advocate General Khadim Hussain Qaisar and newly-appointed Sialkot DPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana appeared in the court on Thursday. Haris placed on record a report prepared by the DIG (Investigation) about the killing of another victim Bilal and injuring of two others on the same day the two brothers had been executed. He said that FIR number 427 had been registered in this regard.

The plane, known as a Flying Pencil, was blasted out of the sky during Nazi attacks on Britain in August 1940. The Royal Air Force Museum plans to raise it from the water next year and put it on display in London.
It said the plane was in "remarkable" condition. Museum director Air Vice-Marshal Peter Dye added: "It is a unique survivor from the Battle of Britain."
Only it didn't actually survive, did it? It's been dead for 70 years and all they're going to exhibit will be the corpse.

Good grief - wasn't there anyone available at the Sun with a rudimentary knowledge of aircraft... WW2... history... anything... to fact check that? I'll bet half their readers groaned as they read the article.
Actually CS, it is only a typical for the period radial; from a variety of sources, each one puts out about 1000 hp.
gotta admit, the Germans knew how to build good aircraft. goood thing they had Hitler running the show ( sarc)

Yesterday, during a discussion of early television on another site, someone stated that it had been weaponized during World War 2. The poster included a link to a site about German guided missiles, HS-293 etc.. None of these were TV guided, though the Germans were said to have considered it.
Apparently it was just assumed that any advanced development would have been the work of the Germans. Completely ignored was the US development of several television guided weapons that actually flew during World War 2, and one that was actually operational, the BQ-4/TDL. If this device had been German, you would have a whole History Channel series devoted to it, along with model kits in every scale and books of every kind. The same is true of the Bat glide bomb, which used active radar homing and was operational before the end of the war.
Similarly, during their lengthy paen to the Horten brothers, the National Geographic channel failed to mention that American Jack Northrop and many others had built and flown flying wings many years earlier, or that Northrop's giant XB-35 flying wing was in advanced development during the war and flew in 1946. They did mention that Northrop engineers had examined the Smithsonian's Horten flying wing during their development of the B-2 stealth bomber. They didn't actually say it was copied from the Horten, but they did invite that inference ("Nazis had it first!"). As a result, idiotic statements like "the stealth (sic) is a rip-off of a Nazi plane!" are commonplace on the net. The Horten Ho-229 was a wooden toy compared to the XB-35, and equating it to the B-2 would take Joseph Goebbels's breath away. Nat-Geo's reckless claim that the Horten could have won the war for the Nazis is one of the most ridiculous examples of hyperbole and ignorance ever broadcast. It was the first aircraft to deliberately employ features designed to reduce radar signature but this alone is not enough to win a war, especially when it is applied to a machine of very limited payload and range.
The Germans did get jet fighters into operation first, but by less than a year. By the time the war in the Pacific ended, the Meteor IV and P-80 were ready for combat. History channel and other claims that these aircraft were inferior to the ME-262 are just not supported by fact. The Meteor III was operational before VE day but I am willing to concede its inferiority, at least in speed, to the German jets. This was not the case with the Meteor IV however, which had 80% more thrust.
Both the P-80 and the Meteor IV had better measured speed and lower wing-loading (hence better maneuverability) than the Me-262. The allied jets' biggest advantage though was a simple one: they could actually be flown on a routine basis because their engine overhaul life was more than 10 times as great.
Other facts the Aryan technology cult would like to ignore (and often does):
-It was the Dutch, rather than the German, navy that invented and first deployed the submarine snorkel.
-The Germans did not deploy a usable radar proximity fuse before the end of the war, more than 2 years after the allies had started using this crucial technology.
I frankly do not understand the motivation behind this Germanophile technology cult. Give them credit where it is due (V-2 etc.), but the constant distortions of fact and the over-emphasis on their achievements relative to those of the allies point to a different and rather disturbing motivation.
