#2  apparently the Dept of Agriculture authorization act has a provision allowing adjustment of the SNAP benefits based on price changes and availability of products

the 'availability' is subjective and allows political rather than administrative judgements

fwiw, a family of 4 can receive as much as $600/mo of SNAP benefits currently

SNAP benefits have become part of the illegal drug market as beneficiaries buy soft drinks with their SNAP, sell the soft drinks for cash or equivalent and use the cash to buy opioids or whatever

Afghanistan
CNN Historian Says Kabul May Be Biden's 'Saigon Moment'
[MEDIAITE] Presidential historian and CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
contributor Tim Naftali argued that it’s fair to compare the Fall of Saigon to Kabul’s descent into chaos, now that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
has taken control of the Afghanistan capital.

Naftali joined CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday to discuss the implications of Kabul’s fall and the US’ scramble to evacuate allies and American citizens from the country. Whitfield noted that the conversation was occurring hours after Secretary of State Antony Blinken went on a media tour to defend the Biden crime family administration
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
’s approach, where the secretary of state insisted there was no comparison between Kabul and the end of the Vietnam War.

Asked whether it was "a fair comparison," Naftali called it "a very fair comparison." While he acknowledged Blinken’s argument that the U.S. accomplished its original goals in Afghanistan, Naftali explained how that excursion snowballed into America’s broader campaign in the Middle East with no clear picture of what victory would look like.

"In 2011, let’s not forget, we killed the late Osama bin Laden
...... who is now beyond all cares and woe......
... But we stayed in Afghanistan," Naftali said. "From that moment on, for the last ten years, our government has been trying to figure out what our mission should be, how to declare victory."

Naftali further mused that Biden made the withdrawal decision in order to follow through on ending "a mission he didn’t believe in anymore." He further warned of the possibility that Afghanistan will once again become a sanctuary for radical Islamic extremism.

"If that occurs," he concluded, "this is the Saigon moment for President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?......
, and this will be an albatross around his neck for the rest of time."

Rep. Van Drew calls for Biden's resignation amid Taliban takeover in Afghanistan
Nebba hoppen, as we used to say during my war.
[FOXNEWS] On "Sunday Night in America," Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J. called on President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
and several other Democrat leaders to resign following the disaster in Afghanistan.Following Biden’s withdrawal of U.S. troops, Taliban
...Arabic for students...
forces quickly seized control of Afghanistan, leading to the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy and Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
to flee the country.

Fox News host Trey Gowdy asked the congressmen, "how did we get to this point in Afghanistan?"

"My God, it is one of the darkest, most embarrassing days we’ve had in our country, and it’s a tremendous embarrassment for the Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
.," Van Drew said. "But with this administration it is failure after failure after failure. Honest to God, I cannot believe I'm saying this, it literally is time for this president to resign. it is time for this vice president to resign. It is time for the Senate president and Speaker to resign. We need new people, even new Democrats, hopefully that are moderates. We can’t keep doing this."

Obama's Former Ambassador to Afghanistan: I Question Biden's 'Ability to Lead Our Nation'
You supported him against that dreadful Donald Trump? You voted for him last November? Then you own this outcome, buddy — no excuses accepted.
[BREITBART] The fall of Afghanistan has shocked Obama’s former ambassador to such a degree that he is now questioning President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?...
’s ability to lead the nation.Speaking with The Spokesman-Review, Ryan Crocker, who served as Obama’s ambassador from 2011 to 2012, lamented that the Biden administration (aka the Wilmington comorra)
...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know...
failed to see the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s swift takeover when preparing for the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"I think the direction was predictable; the trajectory was not," he said. "What President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter......
has done is to embrace the Afghan policy of President Trump, and this is the outcome."

Just a little over a month ago, Joe Biden rejected assertions that U.S. withdrawal would lead to another "Fall of Saigon" moment, wherein Americans and their allies would be fleeing Kabul as the country crumbled around them.

"Mr. President, some Vietnamese veterans see echoes of their experience in this withdrawal in Afghanistan. Do you see any parallels between this withdrawal and what happened in Vietnam?" Biden was asked on July 8.

"None whatsoever," Biden replied. "Zero. What you had is you had entire brigades breaking through the gates of our embassy — six, if I’m not mistaken. The Taliban is not the South — the North Vietnamese army. They’re not — they’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy in the — of the United States from Afghanistan. It is not at all comparable."

While Crocker was critical of former President Trump’s plan to withdraw from Afghanistan and negotiate with the Taliban, he believed the Biden administration should have been ready to provide adequate air support to Afghan forces stationed throughout the country. In February of last year, then-President Trump said his administration’s agreement of withdrawal would be contingent upon the Taliban’s cooperation.

"If bad things happen, we’ll go back," Trump said.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo equally promised, "Today, we are realistic. We are seizing the best opportunity for peace in a generation. Today, we are restrained. We recognize that America shouldn’t fight in perpetuity in the graveyard of empires if we can help Afghans forge peace."

The spectacle of the Taliban overtaking Kabul as the United States withdrawals could have consequences for years to come, according to Crocker, who fears that Islamists will now have a calling card of victory to better its recruiting strategies.

FBI dodged Ilhan Omar-'bro' wed probe: Devine
More on this story from yesterday.
[NYPOST] Only hours after Minnesota GOP operative Anton Lazarro posted online DNA evidence that allegedly shows Rep. Ilhan Omar
...Somali-American Dem representative from Minnesota. She was apparently married to her brother and may be her own grandmaw on her mother's side...
was once married to her brother, the FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
busted him. The test results stated there is a 99.999998 percent chance that Omar and her second husband, Ahmed Elmi, now her ex-husband, are siblings, according to an analysis by British company Endeavor DNA Laboratories. But before Lazarro could share the results with the media, he was arrested Thursday on underage sex-trafficking charges and nabbed
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
pending a court hearing Monday.
Boy. Wotta coincidence.
His website, IlhanOmarDNA.com, containing the DNA test results, was online briefly before it was taken down Wednesday.
Boy. Wotta coincidence.
Lazarro and a group of conservative donors had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on three continents hiring private Sherlocks to track down Elmi Omar’s ex-husband in the UK and procure his DNA from a drinking straw. Omar’s DNA, Lazarro’s website claimed, was extracted from saliva on a cigarette butt she was photographed smoking.

Omar previously has denied Elmi is her brother, calling the claim "absolutely false," "absurd" and "offensive."

Special Agent Joy Hess, from the FBI’s Twin Cities field office, which investigated allegations that Omar married her brother Elmi to get around US immigration laws, says the "statute of limitations" had run out on the case. In a recorded conversation with an associate of Lazarro, posted on his website Wednesday, Hess also said the FBI could not pursue the case because Omar’s ex-husband Elmi had moved overseas.

#5  rj and P2k, it doesn't work that way. I have the sample ballot right here on my desk. There are two questions on the ballot.

First question: Should Newsom be recalled?

Second question: Which of the listed candidates should replace him?

If the majority vote yes on the first question, the top vote getter on the second question is elected. If the majority vote no on the first question then the second question is moot.

#7  A lot of Californians, including most Republicans, even the country club and chamber of commerce types, are seriously pissed off at Newsom. Yes, I believe he will cheat by mail and any other way he can. The question is whether he can cheat enough.

I believe the Hispanic vote will not be reliably in his favor this time. Many Hispanics have been badly hurt by Newsom's lockdowns. Anybody who owned or worked in a restaurant got screwed. Anybody who had to miss work to stay home with kids got screwed. A lot of those people are Hispanics and they know they have Newsom to blame. Landlords got screwed.

And then, Elder is black so the black vote will not be reliably in Newsom's favor.

On TV, Newsom isn't saying anything on his own behalf. Instead, he has Elizabeth Warren trying to tell us that the recall is a waste of tax dollars, as if Newsom hasn't squandered billions. I don't believe anybody is dumb enough to believe Fauxcahontas.

Newsom can count on white liberals in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and he can count on the bogus vote. This time it might not be enough.

#11  Los Angeles is quickly becoming a place exclusively for the white and rich

L.A.’s Black population has declined by 100,000 since the 1980s, falling from 13% of the County population to 8% in just a few decades. Hollywood alone saw the displacement of 13,000 Latinos between 2000 and 2010, pushed out by rising rents to make way for upscale redevelopment. These are just two of the most eye-popping figures that illustrate a larger point: Los Angeles is increasingly becoming solely accessible to the rich, and the rich are disproportionately white. (“Black and Mexican households have one cent for every dollar of wealth held by the average white household,” according to The Color of Wealth in Los Angeles.)

We are witnessing the rapid creation of a new geography of segregation and exclusion in Los Angeles, as areas seen as desirable are being purged of those who cannot afford the sky-high rents that inevitably follow.

The Westside and Downtown are linking up to create a contiguous zone where only wealthy people can afford to live, expanding into areas that have historically been populated by lower-income communities of color, predominantly Black and/or Latin@. What’s already happened to Silver Lake and Echo Park is proceeding full-steam ahead in places like Crenshaw, South Central, Boyle Heights, and Inglewood.

Bezos sues NASA in tantrum over SpaceX winning moon contract.
[YouTube]
BTW this is the same BEZOS of Amazon, Washington Post and a certain [CNBC Story] Virgin Island fame.
Blue Origin sues NASA over human landing system contract

[SpaceNews] Blue Origin has filed suit against NASA in federal court, arguing that the agency failed to properly evaluate its proposal for the agency’s Human Landing System program, a procurement won by SpaceX.

Blue Origin filed suit Aug. 13 in the Court of Federal Claims, which has jurisdiction over bid protests after reviews by the Government Accountability Office. The company sought a protective order, sealing documents it filed in the case. The court granted that protective order Aug. 16.

The company said it requested the protective order “to protect confidential, proprietary, and source selection information contained in the Complaint, and other filings and hearing transcripts in this bid protest.”

Only in the motion to seal filings in the case did Blue Origin explicitly state that the case was about the HLS “Option A” award that NASA made to SpaceX in April. “More specifically, this bid protest challenges NASA’s unlawful and improper evaluation of proposals submitted under the HLS Option A BAA,” or broad agency announcement, the company said in the motion.

“Blue Origin filed suit in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in an attempt to remedy the flaws in the acquisition process found in NASA’s Human Landing System,” the company said a statement to SpaceNews. “We firmly believe that the issues identified in this procurement and its outcomes must be addressed to restore fairness, create competition, and ensure a safe return to the Moon for America.”

Blue Origin and Dynetics filed separate protests with the GAO in April, arguing NASA improperly evaluated their proposals compared to SpaceX, and that NASA erred in making only a single award rather than revising the competition or canceling it entirely. The GAO rejected those arguments, denying the protests July 30.

The GAO went into more detail about its denial of the protests in an Aug. 10 public version of its decision document. It found no evidence that NASA improperly evaluated the proposals, concluding that “the record adequately supports NASA’s evaluation of the protesters’ proposals and was consistent with applicable procurement law, regulation, and the terms” of the solicitation.

The GAO also concluded that NASA was within its rights to make only a single award, as the agency made clear in the Option A solicitation that it could make multiple awards, a single award or none at all.

During the GAO protest, NASA halted work on the HLS award to SpaceX, but transferred $300 million to the company on July 30, the day the GAO denied the protests. It was not immediately clear if the Blue Origin suit in the Court of Federal Claims will force another stop-work order on the contract.
