Detroit -- Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison this morning by Wayne Circuit Judge David Groner who said the former mayor engaged in "contemptible behavior" by hiding assets from the court.
Groner chastised Kilpatrick before imposing the sentence, which included a minimum of 18 months in prison. Several people in the courtroom gasped when the judge handed down the sentence.
"Probation is no longer an option. The terms of your earlier probation no longer apply; that ship has sailed," Groner said. "This is all because of the actions of you, Mr. Kilpatrick. You were convicted ... all because you lied under oath. That lie ... was part of a broader attempt to cover up your misdeeds while serving as mayor. You challenged this court's authority," Groner said. "You attempted to utilize semantics and exploit loopholes. The broader context of this issue is that your family living expenses -- including living in a million-dollar home, driving a brand new Escalade and purchasing elective surgery for your wife -- you have made it perfectly clear that it's more important to pacify your wife than comply with my orders."
Groner said Kilpatrick will get 120 days credit, meaning his minimum term would be 14 months. That would put him in a Michigan prison.
Kilpatrick was handcuffed in the court and led away.

under the terms of the 2008 conviction, former Mayor Kilpatrick was to repay about $1,000,000 to the City of Detroit. They probably had a repayment schedule and Kilpatrick didn't meet it.

This is enough to piss you off.....
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama plans to spend a long holiday weekend in Chicago. The White House says Obama and his family will travel to their hometown on Thursday and stay through the weekend. It will be their first trip back home since a visit for Valentine's Day weekend in February 2009.
On Monday, Obama is scheduled to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
In Obama's absence, Vice President Joe Biden will participate in the customary wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington.
More details about Obama's trip will be released soon. I think the resting place of honorable men and women are to Obama like Garlic to a Vampire... (apologies to any vampires out there)
CA Republicans Whitman & Fiorina Surge; Air Goes Out of Poizner Statehouse Balloon; Campbell's Train to DC Stalls: California's Republican primary contests for Governor and US Senator have sea-sawed, according to new SurveyUSA polling conducted for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KGTV-TV San Diego, and KFSN-TV Fresno.
In the Republican primary for Governor, Meg Whitman has re-captured momentum she appeared to lose earlier this month, and today leads Steve Poizner 2:1, with 1 in 6 likely voters having already cast a ballot. SurveyUSA's tracking graphs display a pronounced bow-tie, exemplified by, but not limited to, male voters, where Whitman went from 51% support on 04/22/10 to 37% support on 05/10/10 to 55% support today 05/24/10. Poizner's angle of support is inverted, from 28% on 04/22/10 to 41% on 05/10/10 to 28% today 05/24/10. Almost identical sea-sawing is evident among gun owners and among likely voters in greater Los Angeles.
In the Republican primary for US Senator, support for former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is up sharply in the past 2 weeks, from 24% on 05/10/10 to 46% today 05/24/10. Fiorina's support has more than doubled among women, seniors, Hispanics, the less educated, and in the Inland Empire. During these 2 weeks, Former Congressman Tom Campbell's support dropped 12 points, from 35% on 05/10/10 to 23% today 05/24/10.
Former congressman Rob Simmons is expected to drop out of the Connecticut Senate race at a scheduled 9 a.m. press conference in New London, the Hartford Courant reports.
Simmons lost the party's endorsement at the state convention Friday to former professional wrestling CEO Linda McMahon. He had said he would still challenge her in the primary, but apparently has had a change of heart.
The move clears the field for McMahon to focus on Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, whom Democrats hope will keep the seat on its side of the aisle following the retirement of longtime Sen. Chris Dodd.
Blumenthal has been dealing with the fallout from a New York Times article a week ago that detailed his repeated exaggeration of his military experience, though his campaign believes it's now moved beyond that.

I'm glad the liar is out and I wish McMahon the best. As fake and staged as DC has become she will feel right at home.

the liar is Blumenthal, and he's still in as the Donk-anointed candidate. Simmons is a legit Viet Nam war hero with two bronze stars (earned "in country", unlike Dick). I hope McMahon pulls it off, but I'd have liked to see Simmons more

Whoa, MCMAHON from TV's WW Wrestling - THAT LINDA!?
Clearly its anuther SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE #?????????????.
JERUSALEM - Israeli police recommended on Monday that Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman be indicted for violating public trust, charging he had illegally received documentation about an investigation into his own conduct.
Lieberman's ultranationalist party is the second largest in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, and a decision to indict him could shake up Israeli politics at a sensitive moment for newly renewed diplomacy with Palestinians.
Police have recommended charging Lieberman for violation of trust' regarding the alleged transfer of information to him by a former ambassador to Belarus, Micky Rosenfeld, a police spokesman, said.
Charges have also been recommended against the ex-envoy suspected of giving Lieberman a classified police document about an investigation against him, Rosenfeld said, adding it was regarded as illegal for Lieberman to accept the information.
The alleged offence took place several years ago while Lieberman was a lawmaker in Israel's parliament. It would be up to Israel's attorney-general, Yehuda Weinstein, to decide to whether to indict Lieberman.
Lieberman has said in the past he was innocent and would quit if he were to be indicted, but declined any immediate comment on the latest police decision. A source close to him said that, past experience with the hasty recommendations of the police speaks for itself, and there is no reason to get excited.'
Last year police said Lieberman ought to be charged with bribery, money laundering and obstruction of justice after a separate investigation, also into conduct from a period preceding his current post. But the attorney-general's office changed hands shortly afterwards before any decision was reached.
The Moldovan-born Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beitenu party whose policies many Arabs have denounced as racist, has taken a tough stance on U.S.-mediated peace talks with the Palestinians, often expressing scepticism as to whether any deal can be made in the negotiations revived just this month after an 18-month deadlock.

Governor Deval Patrick, even as he decried partisanship in Washington, said today that Republican opposition to President Obama's agenda has become so obstinate that it "is almost at the level of sedition."
'Almost' is the key. That makes it okay. I can say that Deval Patrick is 'almost' a 'fuckwit', and it's not an insult, see ...
Actually, it is, since you said he isn't even that witty. But your point still holds, since describing someone as a fuckwit is a matter of opinion, whereas sedition is a legal term, and therefore an issue of fact.
The Democratic governor, who is close to the president, made the comments at a forum at Suffolk Law School's Rappaport Center, where he was asked by an audience member about partisan battling in Congress.
Patrick said that even "on my worst day, when I'm most frustrated about folks who seem to rooting for failure," he doesn't face anything like the opposition faced by the president.
"It seems like child's play compared to what is going on in Washington, where it is almost at the level of sedition, it feels to like me," Patrick said.
Perhaps it's because you're thin-skinned ...
He might understand it better had he actually achieved the level of fuckwit. His mother must be mortified.
Merriam-Webster.com, the dictionary site, defines sedition as "incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.''
After the forum, Patrick explained his remarks.
"I think that the number of people in the Grand Old Party who seem to be absolutely committed to saying 'no,' whenever he says 'yes,' no matter what it is, even if it's an idea that they came up with, is just extraordinary," the governor told reporters after the forum.
But did the opposition really border on sedition?
"That was a rhetorical flourish," Patrick said.
No, it was a trial balloon ...
A trial balloon which didn't float very well, thank goodness.
In a statement released a few hours after his comments were posted on Boston.com and other websites, the chairwoman of the state Republican Party criticized Patrick.
"Apparently our First Amendment rights are only guaranteed if we agree with the tax-and-spend policies of Deval Patrick and Barack Obama,'' Jennifer Nassour, chairwoman of the state GOP, said.
Remember, dissent used to be the highest form of patriotism ...
She added, "the governor should focus on the critical issues at hand, like (lowering) property taxes and controlling rampant spending, instead of defending his buddy President Obama."
November is going to be highly amusing. I hope President Obama keeps high blood pressure meds handy.

I can see the desperation in the brownshirt goons that thought they took over. See the protest in front of a banker's personal home for more details.
They will get more violent.
I'm waiting for the national emergency to have them stop the November elections or to keep the new congressmen from taking office in January.

We must've read PRAVDA's Artic this AM on Teachers teaching their young wards how to kill/assassinate POTUS BAMMER as per GEOMETRY CLASS, didn't we?

The assumption everyone here is making is that he's referring to the legal sovereign Constitutionally based nation. He's not. His first and only loyalty is to THE party and its power, nation and people be damned. Then the statement, like those of his brethren, make sense.

For so many years the only resistance and unified NO was with the left. They called Bush - Hitler and on and on and on. They are getting just a mere taste of what they had dished out to Bush and now their panties are a wadded up. Too bad! As for the sedition, it could be called sedition if we were advocating a removal of the constitution and government. What has most of what he called "sedition" folks want is our federal government to take responsibility for their actions, defend our borders, and balance the budget. But lets not let a little thing like responsibility get in the way of a good political party.

Can't disagree with Zero? But it is O.K. for ACORN to stuff the ballot box, dead to vote, Mickey and Minnie Mouse to vote, the Black Panthers to intimidate at the polls, SEIU member to bite off someone's ear, practice thuggery, show health care down voters throats, etc.
Patrick is a complete nitwit. His ignorance is beyond belief. It is more evident each time he opens his mouth. Please, good people of Massachusetts remove him from politics before he does any more damage. While you are at it please remove that other idiot Barney Frank from Congress. He has just about ruined this country with his deals with Fannie, Freddie, and pushing subprime loans.

I don't know about you, Gov, but I'm old enough to remember when dissent was patriotic. In fact, they used to say it was the highest form of patriotism.

Every time Gov. Zero (he had that moniker before the Won did) opens his mouth, he "almost" rises to the level of utter incompetence.

These comments from Patrick are particularly enraging, given that my political 'thought' already has me listed as a 'threat-risk' under DHS definitions...

It's Glenn Beck's fault for going on so much about Wilson and his protofascist solutions to dissent. He made 'em go read the history books, and they started cribbing from the old bastard's playbook.

Well, at least dissent will be patriotic again when the new Congress is sworn.
Well, dissent against Congress.
We'll have to wait until 1/20/13 for it to be fully patriotic again.
